Hashtag#: No, It’s The Other Woman!

Cap #24

We’ll skip the old and jump to the new…… as Fanny takes another ride on the wild side, literally, and is introduced to the scary world of public transportation.  She and Leon go to school together on THE BUS.

Meanwhile, Ana, still troubled by Don Fernando’s giving her the cold shoulder, tries to weasel the reason out from Nando.  He refuses to betray his father’s trust.  Ana has another Tinker Bell moment in which I believe she’s telling herself it isn’t her fault that ol’ Don Hielo has made a sudden reappearance.

Across town, Jen wakes up to see Johnny working out and then learns he’s buffing up to do a male striptease.   Hashtag#: NOT before having her morning coffee, please!

At the office, Isabela turns into Bonsai Bela with plans for a formal and very public engagement announcement—but only after he’s formally asked for her hand from Yo Mama, Yolanda.

Nico stops in at the office a bit later and in between DonFer’s bidnez calls learns that his son’s having to get married to “do the right thing” which Nico interprets as Ana’s being the one with the 8th bun in the oven.  Fernando is so busy on the phone that he doesn’t realize Nico’s error.

Nico leaves the office thrilled to think that Ana’s preggers with his eighth grandchild:  “That son of mine is some stud!”  He tells Beatriz that Ana’s pregnant.  She later goes in and congratulates her boss on the eighth kid on the way and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t seem happy about the situation.  (Viewerville can only think that he assumes Big Mouth Bela has gone and told the whole company the “great news”.  We are all in the dumpers along with Fer.)

Back at Bruja Central Yo! Mama and Bela do a happy dance over the engagement.  Their eyes sparkle like diamonds—a girl’s best friend……

Fernando eventually does call Ana.  It’s to make a dinner date and it’s a very important dinner.  He’s sending his car to pick her up and bring her to the restaurant.

At school, Ximena finds Fanny in the halls and asks to be friends again.  Fanny’s not in the mood.  Xi admits she’s now got a big crush on Fanny's brother.   Hashtag#: Boo hoo!  Not!

Alicia’s still muy incognito, hoping to hide her pimple problem, as the kids leave school to catch their ride.  Sebastian notices the street dancers doing hip-hop (in the middle of the street, natch) and hangs.  He learns a couple of new moves to bust.....

As the family van drives away, Ali takes off her glasses and scarf to get a better look at one of the dancers.  He smiles and waves, apparently just as interested in her as she is in him.

Jen makes a visit finally to the doctor and gets tested for HPV (Papiloma virus which I believe leads to cancer) and I believe she also gets a pap smear.  We get another PSA.

Nico finds Ana in the living room and hears she’s going out to dinner.  He tells her it’s a hugely important dinner, then gives her a hint: “Nuera!”  Yuppers.  Sonny is going to pop the question tonight!   Ana is thrilled, and of course calls Jen who’s not feeling well at all.  She gives Jen her good news.  Bruno walks in on the call.  Manuela hears and then Luz overhears Mani asking Bruno how he feels about Ana and Don Fernando’s wedding?  She races up to tell the twins and Seb.  Afterwards, she and Ana have a heart to heart about it.  FF>>

Ana makes a quick visit to Jen’s.  Jen warns her if she agrees to marry Fernando she’ll have to tell him the truth about El Chicago.  Ana deflates immediately.  Jen suggests trusting in him and telling him the truth about how she was forced into the contract right before she got offered the job as his nanny.

Fanny visits with Nando and has a chat about his feelings for Xi.  He’s confused cuz he doesn’t like how she lied to him and the rest of her bitchy treatment.  Well, Fanny informs him, Xi has a crush on him.  Nando’s thrilled, sort of?  He admits to the sickbed kiss Xi gave him on the mouth and that it was his first serious kiss.   Briana interrupts this convo with a present for him.  He’s all smiles cuz, as he thinks to himself, he’s now actually gotta choose between two girls.

When Bri and Nando are alone she gives him the book, and then broadly hints for a thank you smooch which does not come.

A bit later, Ana tells the older kids about the supposed evening’s big romantic dinner and marriage proposal.  Nando is confused impactado and leaves is a daze.  Ana is hurt and doesn’t understand why.  The others promise to help her get ready for the big doin’s that night while Nando, up in his room, remembers his conversation with his dad about the correct thing to do being to marry Isabela.  He tries calling DonFer to clarify the situation, but because of Don Fernando’s strict instructions to his secretary not to interrupt his meetings with any calls, Nando gets nada.

Meanwhile, Nico gives Jen a lift home and offers to give her financial help with her medical bills.  She refuses.

A bit later, as if Jen didn’t have enough to turn her stomach, she gets home and walks in on Johnny practicing his striptease…… Hashtag#: Double EWWWWWWW!

Night falls.  The girls help Ana get ready for The Big Date.  She heads out the door and enters the restaurant.  (All of Viewerville is cheering that the telenovela gods have decided not to make us wait till the next episodio for the bad news to burst Ana’s bubble.)  The two of them talk over each other till Ana finally realizes something’s not quite right with Fernando’s grimacing face.  She hears him say he’s got to set a proper example for his children and hears him follow that with an icy “Therefore I am marrying Isabela.”  Hashtag#: Bummer, Babe!  It's Bela!

Good stuff, Jardinera. Right to the point and concise.

This poor family is in for hell on wheels. Of course, my worst fears are coming true for Fernando, who will be humiliated in front of his entire family and office. If he doesn't put his foot down now (I think we all know he won't) she will plan that big party and bigger wedding.

He will have no refuge.

I wonder if Isabitch is planning to quit work after the wedding.

Thanks so much for your recap, Jardinera. Loved your hashtags throughout!

Sorry but I need to rant about Jenny's supposed PSA. First of all, if any doctor is that condescending with you, don't allow him to be your doctor. Second, the info he was giving her about yearly female check-ups was not completely accurate and having been one who has suffered from that poor info, made me livid.

For our plot to advance Fer and Ana can't get together yet, but how can he not tell her he knocked up Isa? He reads people so poorly.

Thanks Jardinera! Wasn't the condescending doc telling Jen about HPV?

Karen- ITA about his attitude, although I'm guessing this might be more the norm that the exception, especially for poor women in Mexico.

Well, Fer just totally screwed this all up. He's going to have hell to pay with the kids and his dad.

These two last episodes really got to me. I had to let my imagination run wild...

Part 1 of 2

Broken

Fernando had been tense and distant. Ana wondered what was wrong. Many thoughts entered her mind as to the cause, many thoughts except the one that was fact. What concerned her was that Fernando’s new attitude was not only towards her, but also her kids. Yes, “her kids”. Although she was not biologically related to them there was something else, a bond that was strong; strong enough so that they considered her “their Ana” and she considered them “her kids”.

Fernando was in the library, looking out the window engrossed in a soliloquy.

‘Why do I feel this way? The greatest joy in my life has been my children. Stephanie and I rejoiced in a unique way every time we found out that there would be a new life. And yet I feel disgusted at the way I reacted when I found out Isabella was pregnant. That was not joy. If anything it was uncertainty. And I know why. My seven children were born out of love while the child that is yet to come was born out of sex. Will he ever be able to forgive me?

What am I to do? My mind dictates that I do the right thing; there can be no other path. This child needs to live and grow up within a family. I must marry Isabella and give him this. And then there is Ana.’

Whatever was wrong with Fernando had to with more than just her. Ana noticed a light in the library and cautiously went in. Fernando was there alone, standing by the window. She could see his silhouette, his face void of life told her that he was deep in some thought that was further driving him into this state of isolation, or was it desolation? She walked over and put her hand on his shoulder.

“Fernando, we have to talk. You’ve been distant. You have been avoiding the kids and me. Tell me what is wrong, don’t go through this alone.”

Fernando turned and looked at her for a brief moment then looked slightly away as if making eye contact with her was difficult, even painful. After a few moments of silence he spoke.

“If there is one thing in this world that I need to say, to shout it out so that everyone can know is that I love you Ana. Come what may, whatever path life takes us down, whatever fate awaits us, whatever uncertainty surrounds us know one thing: I love you. Forgive me.”

There was silence. And there it was. Her expression said it all. Fernando knew that his love was reciprocated.

“Tell me what is wrong. We can get though it together. We al miss you.”

Fernando took a deep breath.
“Isabella is pregnant with my child. I have to marry her.”

Ana took a step back. Each syllable that Fernando pronounced was like a dagger breaking her heart. Her only thought was “my kids”. She knew Isabella was not a good person. She did not care anything about the kids. Ana could think of reasons why Fernando should not marry her. Even though most of these reasons had to do with the kids there was one reason of her own: She loved Fernando and after a long and lonely road having to deal with immature relationships and a job that she did not like she finally saw a chance at happiness. Now, with this news this ray of sunshine vanished.

Ana now understood what Fernando was going through. She saw the bleakness that up to now was visible only to him. Although she had all these reasons, she could not say anything. Caught in the middle of this turmoil was an innocent life. She took another step back, turned and exited the library. She wanted to cry, but that was not her. If she learned anything when she was separated from her mom was that crying did not solve anything. She needed to find the “next step”. She would not leave running to get away. There were the kids. She needed to fight for them. She needed to fight for her love.

to be continued...

Conclusion

Nicolas was outside the library when Ana came out. He saw the expression on her face and quickly realized that something was wrong.

“What is wrong Ana?” Nicolas asked in a compassionate and sincere tone.

Ana could not respond; she just moved away, holding up a hand as to create a barrier between her and Nicolas. Nicolas entered the library and saw his son there with the same expression on his face as he had seen on Ana.

“What is wrong son? Tell me.”

Fernando was defeated and broken. There was no point in keeping anything a secret anymore.

“I got Isabella pregnant and now I am going to marry her.”, Fernando responding in a voice lacking life.

Nicolas had seen how Fernando was getting along with Ana, plus Fernando had already shared with him his feeling towards her so he knew how difficult this was for his son to say what he said.

“Fernando, don’t rush into anything.”

“What else is there to do? You taught me to own up to my responsibilities, to always do the right thing. How is this not the right thing? This child deserves to grow up within a family.”

“Fernando, look at your kids. What do you think of them?”, asked Nicolas.

“They are my joy. I am so proud of them and what they are becoming.”

“And do you know why they are how they are? It is because they grew up and are growing up in a home of love. This has made them whole, strong and intact. Yes, a child deserves to grow up within a family, but even more importantly, he deserves to grow up where there is love. Think carefully. Is this something that you can give your kids and the child that is yet to come if you marry Isabella? If you marry Ana? If you do not choose wisely your new child may grow up broken.”

Nicolas patted his son on the shoulder and quietly exited the library.

Fernando saw as his father exited the library and then it hit him. His children were his joy because they lived in a home filled with love as much as he had also lived in such a home too. Love was the family’s legacy. This is what united them and made them strong. He now knew that whatever may come he could not let this legacy end.

Thanks, Jardinera for your quick and concise recap!

Poor Nando! I felt sorry for him being caught in the middle.

Lucky Nando! He now has two girls interested in him.

Isabela was so excited about the engagement she was talking just as fast as Ana when she was telling the news of the engagement to Yolanda.

The doctor was talking about HPV and Pap tests.

Why would you ask someone out to dinner to give them such lousy news? So that they could get upset and cry in public? So that you would not be paying for their meal? Because who would stay and eat after that kind of news?

Looks like Fernando has taken refuge in his inflexible moral code. Little does he know how bad that decision will turn out to be. Heck, he was already covering his face and holding his head after ecstatic Isabela left his office.

Loved the cheesy glass breaking next to Ana's head as Fernando delivers his "news".

I think I have seen more of Johnny than I ever wanted to see. He could disappear and take his male stripper subplot with him.

Well, tomorrow the fallout starts from Fernando's poor choice.

At least Fernando was back in shirts and jackets. That casual look from that orevious episode with that short sleeve knit shirt did nothing for him. It looked like a leftover from a bowling team. Don't like that bodybuilder muscle bound look.

Jardinera, that was a quick and clever recap. If only we weren't facing a family tragedy as a result of Fernando's inflexible thinking.

Salvador, enjoyed your take on how things might have been.

Isabela can fill an executive position, but acts like an idiot when Fernando informs her he will marry her? Her frantic plans and bossy manner are a recipe for disaster. Too bad we have to take this painful detour.

As always, thank you SO much, Jardinera!!!

Silvia looked just beautiful.

Fatima

Jardinera, thanks sooo much for the great recap! The whole buildup to the dinner was heartbreaking because Ana was innocently anticipating the evening's ecstatic conclusion.

Also, twice now, when Ana says, "Where can my mother be?", the camera has cut away to a scene with Yolanda (?), Isabel's mother. Coincidence? Or something more sinister? Also, Carmen Salinas doesn't work in this role. She looks way too old to be Isable's mother, plus they look nothing alike.

(And Salvador, thanks for supplying the alternate plot...).

J in Oregon

Thanks so much Jardinera

Dammit! Don't stop here, let's make Ana's humiliation complete and have the Chicago Club owner stand up in the restaurant and point her out as his headliner.

I'm really uneasy with the Leon & Fanny relationship. She's being a sport about it however the chip on Leon's shoulder is HUGE.

Ximena - failing another class are we

Jenny - please don't have the big C

Nando - you get a pass, daddy o shouldn't have laid that on you

Nic - the town crier needs to get his facts straight

Ana - sorry just ain't gonna cut it, buddy boy

Fanny - that bus ain't dropping you off everyday at the Magic Kingdom

Fernando - well you can't please everybody

Sebastian - fate put those street dancers in front of a private school

Juan - I need some kind of warning

Isabela - outta my way earthlings

Many thanks Jardinera! Great recap on a painful to watch episode.
First, the doctor with his nose up his ***. If that was a PSA, not a great encouragement for women to go see their local doc and get necessary testing.

Second, I am still dealing with the headache and nausea fallout from watching that strip tease of Johny's. Just no! to ever having to view that again.

Lastly, I guess we are still seeing a Fern that doesn't have any real idea how to navigate the world of women or handling difficult situations. I agree, you take someone in public to break their heart. Nice, let's clink champagne over that let-down shall we?

Side note: little Seb wasn't half bad with those moves. Had a feeling that little dude was going to turn out to be a trained dancer but we weren't going to get that right away.

Love your take Salvador. You should write these shows!

Just tell us Leon's secret already!!

Daisynjay

Nicolas really needed to keep his mouth shut about this, but Ana's humiliation would not have been so bad otherwise.

Isabruja will also make Bruno's and Manuela's lives hell. I'm already imagining her complaining about Manuela's cooking (which was perfectly OK before).

It's a pity that Fernando is too much of a gentleman to bluntly tell Isabela that the baby is the only reason he's marrying her. So far she doesn't seem to be delusional about how he feels but she needs to be knocked off her high horse.

Thanks all! Correction made re: diseases.

ITA the restaurant was about the worst place in the world to give bad news--of any sort, tho' I've had some bosses do that throughout the years. Thanks for the free meal you drips!

Something tells me Salvador does write for a living or else he should be! Why are you slumming--or rather, sliming, in Telenovelaland?

Enjoyed the Terrific Tofie lists once again!

Time for photographer brother to make his appearance. Doubt he will till the engagement party but that may be really soon due to the pregnancy......

Thank you, Jardinera, for posting your excellent recap so quickly, just in time for my morning tea.

Salvador, I vote you take over writing this tn. Well done.

Fernando: Usted cerdos!

Isabruja: Usted es patetica!

Salvador- What a beautifully written alternate scene! If only it had happened that way.

I don't know how anyone else feels about this detail, but it creeps me out a bit. Why would Ana want to wear Fer's deceased wife's dress to a dinner at which he will propose marriage? It probably still has some of her DNA on it, suggesting some sort of transcendental relationship triangle among Ana, Estefania, and Fer. It's as though Estefania's metaphorically present with them at dinner and involved in their relationship. Fer indicated as much, after his first kiss with Ana, when he questioned Estefania's portrait, "You arranged this, didn't you?"

Good morning. Thanks for the great recap Jardinera!

Salvador I too vote for your "do-over" suggestions!

This is the part of rom-com's I hate: when one of the main characters does the inevitably stupid thing and now we have to live through the consequences.

Why on earth wouldn't Fer have mentioned the fact that Isa was knocked up? Surely that would have helped a little? Too annoying. Perhaps the only thing more annoying was Isa's response to the "proposal" if you can call "I guess we should get married" a proposal. Sigh. I'm not looking forward to the next bit.

Ok, please don't laugh at me-- with is fine-- for this question. I too thought I heard the doc talking about HPV but I kept thinking I heard them both saying "Papa Nico." Were they also talking about her relationship? And if so, isn't that a super weird way to refer to you boyfriend?

Just wondering....
Rebecca

Amazing concise recap of a very down episode... we all knew what was coming, otherwise we would have thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids prep-up Ana for the moment...
Nico will be so soooorrryyyyy... to have lifted Ana up so high only for Fer to push her off the cliff... (I really want Fer to be totally truthful to her about why he is marrying Isabella... not sure Nando would tell her if Fer doesn't... but since Nico knows, maybe he will...)

ITA with all of you, we have seen more than enough of Johny's stripping... please spare us!

DaisynJay et al... i agree that this is not the right place to break those news to Ana... (heck, not the right place for even the news he thinks he is giving his nanny) However, and to be totally fair to Fernando, he has no idea that Ana is under this HUGE misunderstanding, that she believes this is about a marriage and that it is her he is proposing to... He thinks he is just telling the nanny, who, granted, is the woman he loves, that he is marrying another... so the nanny needs to know there will be a Senora in the house... (Ana lives there, this would give Ana time to react and even leave if she so desires)... Fernando has no clue just how high Ana has been lifted the last few hours... so he knows this will be a big blow on her, but does not know he might as well be pushing her off the Empire State Building...

Salvador... brilliant!! If I were to write novelas, I would write in that tone... describing 80% the emotional, facial and body language side reaction to what is being actually said ... I am applauding.. you should write these for a living... granted, you would have to get it in writing from Televisa that you would write very short novelas and Televisa would NOT BE ALLOWED to extend or tamper with your writing, let alone give them awful extensions.

Ecuador bound... yes and no... i think Ana wearing Estefania's dress is sort of a pass of the baton of sorts... After all, Estefania herself told him to find a good woman and mother for their kids... but i can see where some folks would be against it...
I find the tiebreaker the fact that it was Fanny herself who offered the dress to Ana for both the informal backyard dinner and also for this 'date' which everyone believes is the proposal for Ana to become their new 'mom'. And all the kids are totally for it...So I am ok with it too.

I totally agree that Fer should have told Ana the WHOLE truth, and done it in the same order Salvador did...
1. Let it be known and never have any doubt that I love YOU.
2. I knocked up Isabella
3. I feel morally obligated to that child and to her so I am marrying her.

That way Ana will get the whole story and does not run out midway through it.

Rebecca, Papa Nicolao is the spanish way to say 'pap smear'. The fact that it is named Nico is just a very funny coincidence.

Thanks Martaivett!

The way I would write a version of this is following Salvador's lead for the alternate episode of last night...
we get prepped for a Fernando-Ana wedding with Fernando signing a written arrangement with Isa that he will support her and his child and the child will be part of the family, spending some time with them... and most of the time with Isa... so the child can go with the family on vacations... and Isa would not be able to blackmail for more...

Ok that being said, there is plenty to go on for a few more months worth of novela...
1. Diego arriving and building some sort of triangle for a while until some othe woman shows up for him to turn to
2. Fanny and the Leon secret revealed and dealt with
3. Ana helping Nando, Alicia and Sebas deal with their personal issues and their relation to their dad
4. Nico and Jennifer, he is there for her, and they live 2gether 4ever?
5. Ana's Chicago issue and Fernando digesting the news and resolving the situation

There have been extensions of at least two similar stories and since there are so many kids and other characters, it works without it becoming a sitcom like EcoModa was from Betty la Fea.

I am in it for the whole road... but it would be more fun to see Fer and Ana be happy and together resolving what may come than us having to endure 6 months of 90% grief to get one final episode of smiles and love.

Marta, I like your idea about the dress being a sort of "passing the baton" Well put.

Great writing, Salvador!

Jarifa

and of course, further extension could come when Ana gets pregnant, has a baby and the whole clan of older kids help out with the baby... etc... which did happen in earlier novelas with similar story.

I think it will make it worse if Fernando tells Ana he loves her but..... He lied about the first kiss and he should lie again to spare Ana any further delusions. Ana, loved macking with ya but that was all it was to it, nothing more. I have a commitment to the mother of my child. I am sorry you misunderstood and sorry I kissed the help. If you'd like I will write a letter of recommendation and provide an adequate severance package and hope you do not feel the need to visit an attorney and bring a sexual harassment suit.

somehow this moment in the novela is making me think of Cinderella the disney movie... remember how the step sisters (Fernando) destroyed the first dress that the animals (kids) made for Cinderella?? then she was so devastated crying and it was only after this desperate moment that the fairy godmother showed up...
what i am afraid of is this desperate moment for Ana will last quite longer and make us wait months to see the finale... lol

The Papanicolaou test (abbreviated as Pap test, known earlier as Pap smear, cervical smear, or smear test).

Oh, sorry Martaivett!

Didn't realize you already explained Papa Nico!

Ana's joy was utterly deflated and defeated. Jardinera, thank you for combating her heartbreak with your insight and humor.

In addition to the excellent title, "THE BUS"; "Bonsai Bela"; "Yo Mama, Yolanda"; " Their eyes sparkle like diamonds—a girl’s best friend" and "A bit later, as if Jen didn’t have enough to turn her stomach, she gets home and walks in on Johnny practicing his striptease…… Hashtag#: Double EWWWWWWW!" were all superb.

Calling this a comedy of errors would be inapprpropriate due to Ana's devastation. How unfortunate that Nico misconstrued this. Even more unfortunate that Salvador wasn't one of the writers whose version was handled with much more sensitivity. Sigh

Rebecca, I'm frustrated too as to why Fer left the pregnancy out when speaking with Ana. And Jarifa, you made an excellent point, why the lovely restaurant as the setting to deliver the ominous news to Ana? Didn't he realize she would break down??

Jen's situation is just terrible. I wonder if she will even tell Ana once Ana reveals what happened? Karen, there is nothing worse that a doctor who treats their patients without compassion. A condescending attitude is hurful and harmful. If that may be the norm in Mexico Vivi, I am very glad I am not a resident.

Daisy, agree Seb does have some moves and rhythm. Any distraction was a welcome one last night.

J your "Also, twice now, when Ana says, "Where can my mother be?", the camera has cut away to a scene with Yolanda (?), Isabel's mother. Coincidence? Or something more sinister" has me thinking...

We're sure to be in for more tears tonight. Poor Ana...

Thanks Jardinera!

Diana

Thanks again to all of you who've taken time to comment. All the posts were well thought out and great for lengthy discussions which, nowadays, I do not have time to pursue.

I'm off to work where the computerized technology is off limits. So sorry!

See y'all later!

Jardinera – Thanks for a fun recap. Loved all the #hashtags.

I haven’t been able to watch much but caught most of it last night. One can hope that the story arc on HPV will include Jen getting a good doctor who puts that condescending one in his place.

ITA an elegant restaurant wasn’t a good place for Fernando to deliver Ana the bad news, but from his view I guess he wanted to treat Ana in a first-class manner on their last night as a couple.

I can feel the nerfazos coming, but I’m looking forward to Johnny’s striptease act. He’s got a smoking body.

Isabela could've taken after her father, not Yolanda. Plus you can tell Isabela is not a natural blonde.

Yolanda may not be Ana's mother but may have had something to do with Ana's mother's disappearance.

I would like to know who the lady from Amor Bravio (the one who is running with her hands up by the bushes in the credits) is going to play.

In fernando's defense, I agree with treating Ana in first-class manner and giving her her place in her being the first one he tells (other than Nico) the news about his wedding to Isa... And remember, he does not know that Ana is misunderstanding it as he is proposing to her...

Anon, if you refer to the older lady in the credits I would say she will turn out to be Ana's real mom. or someone on the good guys side... maybe Fer's mom?

Papa Nico/Papanicolaou - Very punny, telenovela writers.

I was wondering about that scene with Jen, too, so thanks for the clarification!

Based on the notion that Nando is a junior version of his dad, could it be that Fernando and Estafania were each other's first and only? If so, this accounts for how naive he was in handling this horrible situation.

Thanks for the wonderful recap!

Tonight's going to be tough for everyone. Wonder how the fallout will go...

I wonder if the wedding is what brings the brother to town. Can't wait for more characters to join.

I hate him right now but Fernando owes Ana nothing. They are not dating, they have kissed a few times, told her she was good for him and the kids and she knows he has been seeing Isabela. I think he made a mistake of a big production and should have quietly asked her into the library and spoke as an employer to an employee. Told her there will be a new woman of the house that may need help with the kids, especially since she is pregnant with another. He could call Bruno and Manuela in and tell them to start setting another place at table.

I bothered me Nic automatically assumed Ana had been sleeping with Fernando but he has not been living at the house.

Misunderstandings and miscommunications usually lead to at least 50 episodes.

Fernando may owe Ana nothing except a good severance package. If that were me I'd run rather than take Isabela's abuse.

Me too, and the dude would never hear from me again. Would hate it for the kids but that is Fernando & Isabela's problem.

Fernando should have gotten a vasectomy when Luz was born. Who has this many kids these days?

I think she's going to stay and I think Isabruja will figure out that it's smarter to be nasty to her when nobody else is around to see or hear. This will be easy enough with the adults but with seven kids it will not be simple.

Jardinera: Thanks for the recap. A hard one since we all knew Ana was in for a big fall.

UA: I got the impression that Estafania was Fer's first.

The worst part--until Ana got the news--was Isa. All the "te amos" made me sick. Surely she doesn't think Fer loves her?

I'm afraid the way Fer told Ana, she's going to think that it's because he considers Isa "higher class" than her".

I don't like the fairy animation, though I did think it was cool that everytime she put her wings together in the back, a little fairy dust fell off. I did like the crystal heart breaking graphic.

I think Seb is a pretty good dancer, but I don't know much about hip hop.

Salvador thank you for the fan fic. Loved it.

I don't agree that Fer doesn't owe Ana anything. He made it clear that he had feelings for her and that he wanted her in his life. HIs many "paronemes" and his wanting to tell her the news first seems to me that he thought so to.

Nanette

technically tofie has a point, Fer has not made any commitment to Ana... but he should have thought it more from the point of view of the other kids... its not just about this new one... there are 7 other ones to think about that will be directly affected.

Does Fer feel like he owes Ana the nice treatment? yes.. for sure. But he is not responsible for the misunderstanding or for the work-up Ana has been getting the last few hours. That is on Nico. what is on him is his rushed decision... just like Nando knows Fer is in love with Ana, the rest of the kids know too, and most importantly, he knows. So this is choosing love or duty... but its not that clear cut... you can choose love and still make roon for the responsibility over this new child. But since Fernando is more a black and white person, we know he does not see that middle ground.

Nobody has met Yolanda yet. There is a reason for that.

When they meet her they will realize she is no more to the manor born than anyone else. While will mean Isabruja could be knocked off her high horse (which she probably can't ride).

ITA UA.. i meant to say something about it... she certainly has too much street 'language' to be a highly educated, always high society vs married into it or related into it type person... i would like to see Fernando and Nico's face when they meet her and she starts with her 'talking' sort of them meeting Perla from Pobres.

I can already see the Cinderella type environment Ana will have to endure when Fernando is not there... from both the wife and the MIL... but good thing is Fernando hired her to be the kids nanny, not to be at IsaBimbo's or MIL's beckon call... so he won't demand that Ana be waiting on them.

I thought it was totally inappropriate for Ana to convene all the kids to tell them about a proposal that she didn't have yet. Sure, they have a right to know, but not if it doesn't happen. I get that she loves the kids and their approval is important, but for that same reason she should take a deep breath, slow down and THINK. The kids want this to happen and she's basically feeding into their happiness just to take it all away. It is certainly not her fault that things happen as they do, but it IS her fault that she gets ahead of herself and assumes what the others are assuming. It would make more sense for her to actually hear what Fernando has to say and THEN make it a family affair. After all, what if he DOES propose and then she tells him she works at the antro and he says, NEVER MIND! What then?

But I get it. This is a telenovela.

Oh, and while Sebas is a barely okay dancer, he is definitely not a hip-hop dancer. Keep trying, kid.

It is Fernando's job to announce in 'no doubt about it' fashion whether Ana or the wife is the ultimate authority on the kids activities... and i am afraid he will say it is Isa since he can't distinguish between her baby and his kids... they are now 'their' kids... bummer!

I actually hate hop-hop and rap. One of the recent subway phenomena that gets my goat is when groups of young guys do this in subway cars. They also typically use the poles. Not only is the "music" intrusive, it is sometimes impossible to stand in the car or to get into position to get to the door.

One point I remembered this morning: When Isabitch showed up for her interview she had to hide a pack of cigarettes. We haven't seen her smoke since then. Have the writers forgotten?

I think Ana only decided to gather up all the kids when she learned that Liz had already blabbed to most of them. She said she wanted them all on the same page. Otherwise, I think she would have kept it to herself.

Luz not Liz, silly Tablet.

very good point, Anon 2:31. Ana is really getting ahead of herself... and even worse, Nico is really creating a chaos that Fernando will have to clean up.
It would be wise for her to have slowed down...

That said, I can see where she is trying to go with the consulting the kids... she wants to make sure the kids are ok with it before she goes ahead and says yes 'with reservations' and then drops the bomb about her Chicago job on Fernando... yes, he might take it back right there...
and she should not raise the kids hopes way high only to loose her altogether because Fernando fires her on the spot AND takes his proposal back.
But she is a kid at heart... a kid who has waited her whole life to get a decent lucky break... let alone THIS HUGE a lucky break.
It will be an even bigger fall she and the kids will suffer for it...
and we can already see from previews it won't be pretty...

vivi, you're right. I too remember Luz had told half of them already and she wanted them all on same page.

Ana is particularly interested in the older kids opinion... that is why she was so concerned about Nando's walking away quietly and looking a bit confused/concerned. Ana was also wondering what was it all that Fernando and Nando had talked about over at Malinalco (sp?)

Ana is human, and as such she has a right to a reaction... hopefully she will have a short recovery time and realize the kids need her now more than ever... and be there for them.

Thanks Jardinera, I agree with everyone that Fernando could have told Ana this news in a better way, but this happened at the end, so the conversation may not be over yet and he may still tell her about Isabela's pregnancy.

And sorry to disagree with some of you, I don't think that Sebastian is that great of a dancer to make me want to keep seeing him dance, as I'm sure his daddy will keep writing his dance scenes into the script. Thank goodness for fast forward. And I like hip hop dancing too, but not kids whose father thinks they are better than they are.

I'm looking forward to seeing Isabela at war with the kids. Remember how they treated all the nannies before Ana, well multiply that times 1000.

Thanks, J., for the nifty recap. Very hard to watch those last five minutes -- I give the actors and writers credit for developing a great build-up. So sad for all, though Isabruja is not going to have as much fun as she thinks she will!!!

Yolanda as mother to both Ana and Isabela. I didn't catch the camera moving to Yolanda after Ana's lament to her mother. Yikes, that is scary.

So many plot lines now and Diego has not arrived. The 180 may not fly by but there will be a lot to sort out and settle.

#nomore"hiphop"

I really like good hip hop dancing, but Sebastian is not good, and those street dancers weren't much better. I'm fine with a character having a hobby they aren't necessarily good at; it's realistic. But they could show it just a TINY amount, and then maybe mention it but don't show it. We don't need to see it all the time, and certainly not in long scenes, especially when it is so mundane at best. I like it better when Guille, Alex, and Luz try it. They are young enough that their attempts are more cute than tedious.

Too bad Fer is not very imaginative. He needs to do some really intense imagining of what life married to Isasnob would be like.

I wish Leon would get over his "I'm so poor" hangup. She knows you're poor, dude. She doesn't care. Let it go and stop making such an issue of it. Focus on your strengths. And tell us your secret.

Johnny's pants-whipping-off needs a bit of work. Perhaps he could consult Isa for advice. She certainly knows how to get a man's pants off quickly.

Excellent work, Jardinera.

Jardinera, loved your short but fun filled recap. I've been struggling to catch up on the show this week since the kiddos are back in school, so I found it perfect! Also loved your hashtags!

My dvr cut off before Fer told Ana the news, so I'm hoping to catch it again tonight. After the dark and dreary LQLVMR, I am finding myself enjoying this show for its lightness. Love seeing the three little kids in action, and Sebas wasn't too bad, although how realistic would a group of older hip-hopping kids who meet in front of a fancy elementary school to dance be? Hmmm....

I find Fanny and Leo cute together. Glad she is not the typical snobby rich girl they put in TNs. The more I think about Leo's secret, the more I think (no spoilers, just a Crackpot Theory at work)that it has to do with him being a young dad. When they were at the zoo, and they saw a young couple walking by with a stroller, he got serious rather suddenly.

Also, I too am looking forward to the intro of more characters to add to the story lines.

Before I head off, Salvador, I just wanted to praise your alternative fan story line. You are an excellent writer!

When Fernando (grudgingly) asked Isable to marry him, I'm surprised the writers didn't have those dollars signs popping out of her eyes, a la Johnny.

And Niecie, dare I say it, but I agree that stripped-down Johnny is a hottie (but not his personality!).

Meanwhile, one more comment on Papa Nicolau: I kept thinking he was saying "Father Christmas" (i.e., Saint Nicholas). Very confusing to say the least!!!

Part 1 of 2...

Geez, sorry for the long posts, thwarted by the 4094 char limit.

Sorry for the late response. As I’ve mentioned before, the comments page is blocked at work, so I have to wait till I get home to post which is a bit annoying since I usually end up posting while the next episode is airing (or sometimes even after that).

Some thoughts on all your comments.

Firstly, thanks for the comments regarding my alternate version. In an otherwise bleak moment in this story at least I will have a smile thinking of all your thoughts.

The HPV PSA: Ok, I’ll admit that it took me a while to figure out what “PSA” stood for. If anything this looked more like an anti-PSA. Sure Telebizca, show all the female audience how they can go to their doc to be treated like idiots! I wonder how many women will now run in the opposite direction because of this helpful PSA.

I also wondered about the doctor’s instructions. Since Jen was already in pain when she went to see him I would have imagined that he would have ordered more tests besides the pap smear (or instead, maybe?)

Rebecca, I won’t laugh at your question, but please let me laugh with you. This reminded me of the time when …

[Editor’s note: Oh no! Another infamous anecdote, run for the bomb shelter!]

… I was watching this reality show in Mexico. I usually avoid these shows like the plague; I don’t remember how or why I was watching it, but anyways… the show’s hosts were stopping random men in Mexico City and asking them what they thought about the Papanicolaou. They stopped one guy and asked him and his reply was “Oh, I don’t believe in him, I am an Atheist”. I wept for the male species.

If anything good came from that scene and the comments here is that I looked up the term to learn more about it and found this page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgios_Papanikolaou

Who would have thought that something in a novella actually provoked something useful.

Tofie: “Sebastian - fate put those street dancers in front of a private school”.

Maybe the same phrase can apply to Alicia?

Nicolas: Wow! This is the first time I’ve seen the game of Telephone played by only two people and still manage to get the facts wrong.

Zerobella writing her to do list once she marries Fernando:

1. Gain legal access to Fernando’s money
2. Fire the nanny
3. Ship the kids to the GULAG Boarding School for Young Men and Women

Her only conflict: Being unsure which to do first. On the bright side, at least Zerobella will fit Luz’s definition of “madrastra” very nicely.

The restaurant location: Agreed, terrible place to break the news to her. A mortuary would have been more appropriate. This only tells me how little Fernando knows about people and about Ana in particular. Perhaps this location is symbolic in that it represent where Ana will receive the worst and best news of her life. I hope we don’t have to wait till the last episode for this.

Johnny’s striptease: As enjoyable as watching Peter Griffith do the same. I agree with Tofie. I hope they give us prior warning if he’ll do this again. It will be a great time to schedule my root canal.

Martaivette: “I find the tiebreaker the fact that it was Fanny herself who offered the dress to Ana for both the informal backyard dinner and also for this 'date' which everyone believes is the proposal for Ana to become their new 'mom'. And all the kids are totally for it..”

Stroke of genius! When Ana first wore that dress I thought it would be awkward and perhaps even in bad taste, but it was Fanny’s idea and I saw it as a symbolic way in which the kids accepted Ana to be the one who would fill the void that was left by their mother’s death. This completely changed it for me from being awkward to being moving.

Martaivette: “somehow this moment in the novela is making me think of Cinderella the disney movie...”

Yes, agreed, plus we already have a fairy Jiminy Cricket. I guess that’s ok, as long as Ana is the only one that can see the fairy.

Ana’s mom: I had not noticed the cut to Yolanda when Ana mentioned her mom. Ooooh Mmmmy Gaaaawd! No, please. I’d rather see Johnny’s striptease again than this being true. (Although Yolanda would be thrilled! Once Zerobella strikes out she can calmly fall back on Ana.) Still this does not strike me as consistent. In Ana’s memories her mom seems like a very kind and loving person. Unless Ana is idealizing those memories. Kind of reminds me of an old TV show called Dharma and Greg where Dharma reminisces with her mom about her idyllic childhood where she played with a boat that ended up being an old shoe.

I note that La Gata is starting in a week. I will be giving it a try, mostly to see how big a role the kitty plays. :o)
