Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #9: 8/28/14: The Curious Case of Paco and the Mysterious Woman

Hola Amiguis. If Pato thinks he can ever be a detective, he's sadly mistaken. Pato couldn't get water out of a wet sponge. Here is an earworm for you while you read this recap. Watching The Detectives Shall we begin:

Everyone is at the Maestro's wake. Alexa is also there. Later, sitting next to her Mama, Sofia agrees that Alexa is fragile. Pato comes next and plops himself down next to Greta and Sofia. He starts with innuendo with Greta. Using pointedly simpering things like secret lovers, etc. and Greta gets uncomfortable and goes out for air. Pato thinks to himself he wants Greta to confess.

Pato thinks he is Hercule Poirot

Chava talks to Cuco, and Cuco wants to know since Chava has quit the racing, instead of continuing to do this chofer's job, why doesn't he do Mariachi, like his Papa Javier? Chava is really good. Chava gets irate, never, ever will he be like his Papa, a pox on the man!

Dani is at home, on her bed, getting a text from Lucas, when Fausto comes in an scares the crap out of her. Fausto is there cause he wants to know why she skipped school? In the meantime, Lucas is texting Dani from home and Miguelita comes in and scares him too. She wants to know who the girl is? Lucas tells her, his new job, pay enough to finally quit that job. Dani doesn't want Fausto to rat her out to Greta about skipping school. Fausto advises Dani that if some guy was the reason Dani skipped school, she needs to dump him.

Irma's got a brand new bag! She is selling cosmetics and demonstrates them for Armando. She will have to pay for this stuff in thirty days, but no worries, she is sure she can do it. Oh, and she doesn't like Armando's negativety. Run Armando, run!

Chava and Marisol have a chat. Marisol is going on about their Mama Lupe, all dressed up in the hood and thinks she has met a guy. Chava likes this idea. Marisol not so much. Think about Papa. Chava is not happy and calls Javier, a no good infeliz who abandoned them. Seems Marisol has a different type of memory of him. Chava says that their Mama is a hard worker and that Javier just left them and checked his conscious at the door. He could have cared less about them. Marisol runs off crying. Lupe comes in and Chava has been watching the stove. He can't wait to eat. Lupe wants to know what happened between Chava and his sister. Nothing Ma!

Silvana is at the place where her brother is. She asks the lady how he is? He's better. Silvana goes in to see him, and has a flash back. When Silvana and her brother were young, they lost their Mama in a horrid way. They found her dead, either from a gunshot wound or a stab wound and both cried. Her brother was never the same. Sofia calls Silvana while she is there to find out why she isn't at the Maestro's wake. There was a problem and Silvana almost slips and says its her brother and then backtracks and says a neighbor had an emergency.

Pato finds Greta alone and advises her to talk to him, cause, well, he is marrying Sofia and she needs to deal with it. He tells Greta that one day she will accept him. Really dude? Take a look at her face, it's says when hell freezes over.

Pato is more like Inspector Clouseau
Greta and Fausto are home now and Fausto says there was so many memories at the wake, was the Maestro her great love? Oh, hellz noes. Fausto hands her something from the bank.

Paco has called Ripoll and he's wanting some info. He gets what he is asking for. You'll see later.

Greta goes up to Alexa's room and hands her what the banc sent over. It's a credit card with a great balance. It' s for Alexa to replace the wardrobe she lost in Spain. Alexa is like, best Mommy eva!

Lucas is getting ready for his new job.

Everyone is at the Maestro's funeral and Sofia hands Chava her cell phone. Pato is at it again. He is questioning a guy about the Maestro, was he ever married, any kids, secret lovers, the guy tells Pato, that the Maestro had no family. Not brothers, or sisters, neices, nephews, but he did have one great obsession, Pato is all ears. It was Chocolate, figure the odds. Silvana and Sofia commiserate and Mattias is destroyed, he can't stop crying. Mattias finally talks to Sofia and wants to know if the Maestro talked to Sofia about him, before he died, about the job. Nopis, not a word. Mattias cries harder. Pato is giving Greta the stinkeye.

Miguelita and Armando have a chat about Alexa and Armando says Alexa had a crisis of the nerves.

Lupe and Irma are at Lupe's while Irma is trying to transform Lupe into a mysterious and sexy woman. And now Irma wants to know where Lupe was off to the other day, with her new dress and her high heels. Lupe's phone rings and Irma rushes to answer it, it's for Lupe of course and Lupe tells the caller, it's Javier, he has the wrong number. Irma wants to know how that can be? Lupe is quick on her feet and says do you know how many women are named Lupe? Lupe is putting lipstick on so she doesn't have to answer the chisoma (Irma) then Irma hands Lupe the bill for her services.

Paco has made it to the Maestro's funeral and is hiding behind the shrubbery, but from his vantage point he can see Greta. Paco has a flash back and now we see how they met. There is a party at Greta's and Paco was part of the wait staff. She wants to dance with him, but the can't, he is working. She asks his name and he says Paco. Greta finally gets him to dance behind the shubbery and they have a kiss. Paco is crying, remembering this and says Greta is the love of his life.

Sofia has a white rose and throws it on the Maestro's casket. Sofia remarks that the Maestro was the soul of Ripoll with his creations. This is when Chava spots Paco behind the shubbery.

Lucas' new scheme is revealed. He is showing the same luxury apartment and gets a desposit from each "client", so all of them think this place will soon be theirs. First there is a very drunk Chinese Gentleman, a gang of bikers, a couple from Texas, a Shiek with a Dalamation, quite a haul.

Flowers are still being thrown on the Maestro's coffin and Mattias continues to cry. Greta puts dirt on the Maestro's coffin and Paco watches her.

Armando is knocking on Alexa's door and is getting no answer. He is starting to worry. He finally goes in her room, sees water coming from under the bathroom door and opens it and finds? Alexa in a bubble bath laughing. What is Armando doing there? He says he called and knocked and she never answered. Armando tells her that if she doesn't need him, he'll go wait downstairs. He hands her a cloth and goes. Alexa thinks he is quite the gentelman and later thinks that Armando thinks she is caprious.

Chava goes to confront Paco, behind the shrubbery and asks him what he is doing there? Chava wants Paco to join everyone else and struggles with Paco while Sofia sees. Chava finally figures out that Paco used to work at Ripoll. Did someone betray him there, like maybe a woman? Who is the woman, Paco won't say. As the funeral continues Sofia and Greta keep an eye on the shrubbery. Chava really wants Paco to talk with this woman. Paco won't explain and he leaves. Chava comes out of the shrubbery.

Silvana has cornered Pato and asks him why he is being so observant. Pato goes and she has a feeling he is up to something.

Lupe is excersing when Marisol comes in. Marisol is wanting some cookies. There aren't any, cause Lupe wants them to be healthier. Marisol wants to know what is up with the working out, the make up and the lipstick? Why all the exercise and the dieting. Lupe tells her to respect her.

Chava goes back to Sofia and Greta and tells them he was talking to Paco! The look on Greta's face is priceless.

Good Morning Y'all

Please enjoy the recap. I hope Pato never finds out who Sofia's daddy is. He doesn't need to know.

Loved the bath scene and hated Pato.

Everytime Mattias came on screen I just wanted to hug him and give him a snuggle. He seems to take it the hardest.

Also Silvie's brother is new and interesting to me, there has been no such subplot in DA (yet).

Tomboy:

I too loved the bath scene it was funny. I think everyone wants to hug Mattias but Sofia. Mattias has said that the Maestro was like a Papa to him. I think instead of spouting other people's secrets that the Maestro should have said, if something happens to me, give Mattias a try at my job.

Madelaine - I never really got the vibe that maestro liked Mattias. Deep inside maybe, but he always seemed kind of rough on him.. maybe that's what Mattias needed though.

I wonder when Greta and Paco are finally gonna meet face to face. They need to sort things out and move on, especially Paco who could succesfully have a thing with Lupe. I sense chemistry between those two.

Sofia's deceased father was never her father ?

When did this turn into Maury Povich ?

Tomboy:

I think deep down the Maestro did like Mattias too. The Maestro did say that Mattias was the best apprentice. I too wish that Paco and Greta would talk. They need to clear the air for sure about so many things.

Alicia:

We found out a while ago that Octavio was not Sofia's Papa. We think it is Paco that Greta maybe had an affair with, or got pregnant by before she married Octavio who is now dead.

Mads. what a delightful recap with Hercule Poirot even! of course the earworm was perfect!
This is turning out to e a fun one.

Since I am late to comment but not to watch, I have to put in my two cents about our galán Pedro Fernandez. I think he is cute in his own way and am liking the idea that a real stunner like Sofía could be swept off her feet by a pretty normal guy who is good to the core.

Mads, Pato will never be Hercule Poirot (yes, he is more like inspector Clouseau.) Too funny. I wonder if he will have a lucky break and be the one to solve the mystery of who Sofía's father really is.

So, mommy gave Alexa just what she wanted: free rein to limitless money on her own account. Now we partially know why Alexa is like she is.

Paco looked and acted like such a jerk hiding behind the bush. Did he really think nobody was going to see hmi? Maybe if he closed his eyes and wished real hard. . . Not a very sympathetic character.

Wow! Seems like Greta has confided in Fausto way too much about her personal life and now regrets it the way she snapped at him when he asked that prying question.

So Mariana Seoane is in the animal prints again just like her character Rebeca on PESE. Anyway, I like the look.

Jarifa

Madelaine, were you able to get any sleep at all? This is your second splendid recap.

Well, anytime I see David Suchet is a good day for me (OT, PBS is running the last few Poirot Masterpiece Theatre episodes. The very last, filmed in 2013 will run in the next few weeks I believe). But I digress...

"Irma's got a brand new bag!" and "He tells Greta that one day she will accept him. Really dude? Take a look at her face, it's says when hell freezes over" were among my many favorites.

Greta is indeed responsible for how Alexa turned out Jarifa. Amazing how Alexa's personality changes when money comes into the picture. Hmmm. Kind of like Irma? Perhaps the hideous beyond sparkalicious eye shadow is not the only thing they share...

TomBoy, I would like to hug Mattias as well. I agree with you Madelaine that I think the Maestro did care for him, but was stern in order to try and keep him focused (just as you indicated).

Pato is reptilian and a major turn off. I can't blame Greta for her overt, unwelcoming behavior (which does indeed skirt being rude).

So Silvana does have a heart. Well, part of one anyway. I am interested to find out more about her brother's current condition. A very tragic secret indeed.

Madelaine, Chava is certainly heated about his father, isn't he? I wonder if we will find out more of the backstory. Thank you for another wonderful recap.

Diana

Not watching this one, but saw the pic of Poirot and had to say thanks to Mads for the shoutout. Love Poirot!

Mads- I really am in awe about how you're managing all these great detailed recaps. Well done.

I saw the first few minutes of this, so I missed Paco peeking through the bushes at the funeral. LOL!

A bit more info on Javier, Chava and Marisol's dad. He left Lupe twice. He got her pregnant with Chava and abandoned them when Chava was a little boy. He came back years later, swept Lupe off her feet again, got her pregnant, and left when Marisol was a baby. Never to be seen again. So no, Marisol does not know her papa, but she has put him on a pedestal. Chava, who was abandoned by him TWICE, so how hard his mom had to work washing other people's clothes to support them, and was a young adult when Javier came around the second time, knows the dude is no good. Unfortunately, from what we saw when Lupe dolled herself up and went running to meet him, she is still willing to be deceived by him a third time. At least this time she's beyond baby-making age.

Madelaine - Muchas gracias for a delightful recap. Love Elvis Costello and the pics. My guess is Silvana will turn out to be more of a Poirot than Patricio. She's pretty smart, but apparently not smart enough to realize Patricio will only use her.

When Lupe went to see her husband, did they show his face? I'm wondering if the character is being played by real Mariachi singer.

Waiting my turn to give Mattias a hug.

Jarifa:

Thank you most kindly. I agree with you about Sofia and Chava. Who says good looking women always go after the good looking guy. I'm liking the chemistry with Sofia and Chava. She has zilch with Pato. Oh, Jarifa I had a big laugh about Paco hiding behind the bushes, it was funny when he was doing it, like no one could see him. Thanks about the credit card info I didn't know it was Greta's own card. Oy Vey! I like Greta and Fausto though. Yes, she confides to much in him, but any info he gets from her, he usally keeps to himself.

Diana:

Thank you kindly. I did the Malquerida recap first, started this one, then went to bed and finished this one this morning.
Oh, I like what you said about Pato, he is a snake in the grass and I think Greta has his number. I know she is rude to him, she's hoping he'll get the message. She needs to up her game a bit and get some dirt on him, she can show to Sofia with Fausto's help of course.

Nanette:

Thank you kindly and I'm so glad your stopped by. M. Poirot is my hero!

Vivi:

Thank you most kindly for what I missed about Javier. He is a putz and please Lupe never hook up with him again. She is way too good for him. I hope Chava stops her this time, if she has a mind to hook up with Javier.

Niece:

Thank you most kindly. I think you are right about Silvana. She has way more brains then Pato any day, except where Pato is concerned. I'm hoping somewhere along the way she ditches him, like I am hoping Sofia ditches him. They never showed Javier's face, just a big ole mustache and the sombrero and he was being kissed by some ladies. I am still cracking up about the lobster outside that was getting handsy with Lupe.

Great recap Mads! I loved Fausto telling Dani to lose the boyfriend. Fausto seems to be the real detective in this TN with Silvana a close second.

I noticed in the flashback scene that Silvana's mother had a gun in her hand. Maybe she was trying to defend the kids from an intruder in the house? Silvana is supposed to be Sofia's best friend, but she's been hiding the existence of her brother from Sofia. I wonder if the murder of Silvana's mother ties into the beginnings of the factory.

Pato is almost a caricature of a villain. The way he glares at people is comical. All Pato needs is a handlebar mustache to twirl ala' Snidely Whiplash.

The guy Pato was talking to at the funeral was Coria's nephew.

Thanks Madelaine, what a great recap. You are so amazing.

Patricio is certainly sinister looking, sleazy, slimy, scheming, and yes, Diana, even reptilian, and yet he seemed to have been genuinely admiring and fond of Maestro Corio and doesn't appear to be particularly abusive. He truly has no skill at reading the lack of feeling that Sofía has for him but seems to pick up well enough the negativity toward him emanating from Rafa and Greta. I'm not sure if he is really a bona fide evil bad guy or just not good.

So far Paco has given me absolutely no reason to pull for him. His bitterness is glaring.

Except for his apparent love for his grandmother and his prettiness, Lucas has given me no reason to trust or even like him. I suppose we can look for him and Paco to team up for a mutual redemptive process.

A minor correction: the sheik's dog was a Harlequin Great Dane, not a Dalmatian.

Interesting that the folks bilked by Lucas were all stereotypes. I suppose it's not quite as bad to swindle Chinese, Texans, Arabs, and bikers.

Carlos

It's what I expected. Chava will be a singing ex-race car driver. Oh the joy.

Carlos, the scene with the Arab and the Great Dane was interesting. Muslims do not usually have dogs. There are many verses in the hadiths that either forbid contact with dogs or call for the killing of dogs:

"None of the statements regarding dogs are found in the Quran but they abound in the various collections of traditions (hadith). These traditions are a primary foundation of Islamic theology and are the basis of many Islamic laws. They render dogs as "impure" and worse. Per Muhammad’s orders most dogs were to be killed and all dogs of a specific color (black) had to be killed."

xInt:

Thank you kindly and thank you for what I missed. So that was a gun in Silvana's Mother's hand, how sad. I too wonder if it is intertwined with the Ripolls and the factory. You have given me a great idea for my recap this evening about Pato, lol. Thank you!

Carlos:

Thank you so kindly. Thank you about what I missed with the dog and the sterotypes. I feel sorry for Paco because well, he lost his job at the same time he lost the love of his life. Some men just can't move on, and nurse the bitterness and hate. He needs to channel all that and do some good. Either in the barrio or with the Factory.

Cynderella:

I know, you really didn't want to see or hear that, but actually PF has a great voice. He sang with the protag in Dinero and they were a hoot : )

Terrific recap! Thanks Mads!

That was an interesting flashback with Silvana and her brother. What could have happened? Was it a murder or was it a suicide? It looked more like a murder to me judging from where the mother was shot. If it had been a suicide the mother would have shot herself in the mouth or the head.

I can totally see Patricio blackmailing Greta with what he knows. I hope it doesn't happen.

Alexa really seemed to enjoy when Armando saw her in the tub? And Armando is stating to have feelings for her.

I loved that little bit with Chava drinking milk at Cuco's. It made me laugh.

I don't sympathize with Paco at all. BTW, Irma referred to Paco as her uncle. Interesting. I didn't think he had any family.

I loved the flashback with Paco and Greta. So now we know how they met. I can't wait until we find out more about their past together. Maybe it will help me understand Paco's bitterness better.

Sorry for the triple post. I'm not sure how my post came out three times. I only hit the publish button once.
