Mi Corazón #10 -- Hash tag# Golddiggers Aren't Always Golddiggers Unless They Are!

Viewerville revisits Ana’s unfortunate witnessing of the argument between Don Fernando and Don Nicolas over the wisdom-- or rather the lack there of—in Don Nico’s frequenting such quintessentially depraved nightspots as El Chicago and, his potentially picking some Latin American clone of Ana Nicole Smith to be the next Sra. Lascurain.  Ana learns DonFer’s aversion to and loathing of loose women in shady nightclubs who fool men into marrying them for their money.  She might as well forget ever telling Don Decencia the truth about her “other life”.

As for Fanny, she and Leon have motor-scootered over to the other side of the tracks to enjoy the heretofore unknown epicurean delight of such common fare as the taco.  Once back at the college’s parking lot Leon offers her the pencil drawing of her he did; mentions his lifelong dream to become a successful illustrator; and confesses that he thinks she’s the prettiest girl he’s ever known and that he realllllly realllly likes her a lot—all of which makes Fanny’s day, natch.

Back on the wrong side of Taco Town’s tracks in Ana and Jen’s repaired digs, Ana and Jen have heart-to-heart over what a problem Jen’s dating Don Pops is causing her, being that he’s Ana’s employer’s papi and all.  Does she even really care about the old dude or what?   Jen gets testy and says she isn’t really sure how she feels about the old guy except that she enjoys going out with him because he treats her decently, which Ana admits, Jen has every right to do.

Later that night, Ana and Fanny have a chat about the lust-provoking Leon and her date.  They also discuss the problem Don Nico’s new found nightlife is causing.  Fanny offers that maybe it’s time to tell her dad the truth about her “second job”.

Ana agrees and heads downstairs into the living room, hears Bela The Bruja and DonFer discussing Pops’ night club antics and deflates.  Bela agrees with DonFer that women who hang out at or work at nightclubs are the worst kind of gold diggers and social climbers.  Going to that dive and paying off that Jennifer hussy, they agree, is the answer.  DonFer thanks Bela for taking such an interest in his old doddering papi.  She’s really made an impact on his life he says, and then starts to place a mushy mouth meld on Business Babe.  Ana has overheard enough!  She loudly interrupts (reminding me of my mama’s banging pots by the blackberry bushes to scare the s-s-s-snakes away).  Ana it seems is angry enough to defend her friend and righteously admit her secret life to the both of them; but she thinks better of it and immediately gets tongue-tied.  Having made a fool of herself she heads back upstairs, mumbling all the way about the bitchin’ bruja charming the socks off Don Fernando back in the living room.

Upstairs, Middle Sis is having a mid-pre-teen crisis and ends up getting a makeover from Fanny and Ana.  FF>>FF>>

Later that night, Jen and Jonny spot Bela and DonFer entering the club.  Jen races off to give Ana a heads up.

Ana has been introduced at the last minute as LoLana,  thanks to quick thinking by Jen,   She begins her dance act which immediately mesmerizes our unworldly, unwitting, and readily dupable Don Fernando.

While Bela bellies up to the bar with Jonny and offers a bribe for Jen, DonFer dons his Cool Man shades as a disguise lest anybody who’s anybody ends up in the same place and might recognize him. (At least that’s my best guess.)

Johnny, having been blinded by Bela’s offer of bribery bling, referees the meet in the dressing room between Jen and her.  She writes out a check and demands that Jen stay far away from “her future FIL”.  This leads to an all-out snoot-down as Jen tears up the check and asks what Bela plans to do about it if she won’t.

Apparently only in Telenovela Land do shades and dark lighting make an effective disguise.  LoLana does a marvelous dance bit and races off to escape DonFer’s detection.  He manages to track her down to a mesh screen, but when the screening gets wrecked he manages to lift it and capture her attention.  Ana fakes rather seductively kinky Mexican-Italian version of Cat Woman.   (Oh the flashbacks of campy-bad Batman skits that are skittering through the cobwebs of my aged brain right now!!)  He asks her if she knows anything about a woman named Jennifer who is (probably) seducing his elderly papi.  She suggests that it really is probably his daddy’s and the woman’s decision whether to pursue a relationship or not.  That apparently gets DonFer thinking.

LoLana starts to leave but as DonFer grabs her hand to have her stay and talk a bit more, she gets a flashback to their bathroom "chat" and the sensual system overload she had when hugging the lathered-up Don Fernando who, as we remember, was wrapped only in his bath towel.  (>>Sucking in of breath>>)   Don Fernando's on the same wavelength and getting the same sensual system overload as Ana; but the dolt hasn’t any idea why…..

Ana gets free of him just as Bela arrives and watches from the shadows as DonFer and Bela exit El Chicago.  Bela is bragging the whole time about how she made Jen ask for forgiveness.  They get into the car.  DonFer has a momentary crisis of conscience as LoLana’s words apparently have hit home.  Oh well.  He’s grateful for Bela’s attentions and interest in his personal life.  The duped dope lays a supposedly seductive smooch on Bela’s not-so quivering lips.  He closes his eyes during this kiss, but Bela's whore-mones are anything but hopping.  Nope.  Bela just broods.

As Johnny wonders if the bank would accept the check if he taped it back together, Ana tries to comfort the shocked and shaken Jen.

The next day, Pops is angry and moving out of the manse.  Bruno and Ana try to dissuade him, but it’s no use.   He won’t spend another night under his disapproving, judgmental son’s roof!

Viewerville soon finds out that Pops may have had another reason for moving out.  After spending the day with Jen, he opens a ring box and offers her the key to his apartment, formally asking her to move in with him.  (Viewerville notes here that ED is definitely not one of old Pops’ major preoccupations, tho’ down the road it may be and we’ll be PSA’d to death with this.)  Sweet Jen is flabbergasted at this fast approach, not to mention very disappointed.   He’s moving way to fast, she stammers, and she isn’t even sure what she feels for him.  No.  She needs time to think and she needs her space.

Jen races off leaving Pops to wonder what gives.  Isn’t moving in what everybody does these days?  Hmmm. He tells himself.  Maybe he should have tried an engagement ring instead…..

That night, Don Fernando is off to a Gala that Bela has talked him into going to.  Ana takes a moment to straighten his tie.  She asks him to consider having a talk with his father to straighten things out.  He refuses, saying his father doesn’t want to speak to him.  So no deal.

Don Fer has a sudden flashback to the nightclub and Lolanaaaaaah-h-h-h.  He tells Ana there’s something in her look that reminds him of someone he met the night before and who made a real impact on him.  After he’s out the door, Ana struts her stuff up the stairs and pats herself on the back over her feminine wiles.  (Viewerville smiles, too. Take that, Bela, you barking female pound-hound!)

Later, knowing that DonFer and Don Nico are on the outs, Ana arranges to bring Don Nico to the company’s offices to make a surprise “I was just in the area and thought I’d drop in” visit to his son.  He and DonFer discuss Nico’s lady problems and DonFer gives in a bit.  Nico does love the gal, but she refused to move in with him.  (Score 1 in Jen’s favor on Don Fernando’s Yea and Nay list.)  “—Smart of her.  Well, if she wants time, then give it to her.”  Of course, Pops is worried he doesn’t have a lot—and he may be right, for all we know.

Talk turns to having lunch with Don Nico, but DonFer refuses because of a meeting.  They grouse back and forth about it as Ana and the secretary listen outside the door and smile because things are seemingly back to normal between the two.

A while later, before returning uptown to Los Lascurain, Ana takes time to visit Jen back in the barrio and check on her .  Jen is still upset and tells Ana now about Bela’s bribe and how she tore the check to pieces and refused, as well as the old guy’s bumbling attempt to have her move in with him.  But, Ana needs to watch the witch, Jen warns her.  Hash tag: Bela considers herself to be Don Nico’s future DIL!

I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to see this because my dvr went feet-up yesterday. Fortunately, Comcast was super-helpful today (up is down, white is black, I have no idea what is happening anymore, am I hallucinating?) and I am back up and running and saw it On Demand.

I was glad to see Ana wearing the mask, because I was yelling at her "put on a mask! That worked for Fedra Curiel for years!"

Junior set makeover was kinda boring, but I did get a laugh out of little Luz in bright red lipstick.

León the Leonhearted is such a sweetie. I hope he doesn't get a character assassination and turn out to be a gold-digger, too.

Did Nico really think Jen was going to agree to move in with him? After they've been on, what, two dates? Ayiyi.

Actually, that smushy kiss Bela was waiting for after Fernando told her he liked that she was so interested in his family never happened the way she wanted. Fer had obviously been thinking of Lolana as he went in for the kiss ON HER CHEEK. The look on Bela's face was priceless. Curses! Foiled again!

Jardinera, great word picture. "mama’s banging pots by the blackberry bushes to scare the s-s-s-snakes away" whore-mones, yep some were moaning alright

Got to spend some time in the Disneyesque strip club, replete with a staged ruckus and a besotted patron that got too grabby.

Fernando - Who's that behind those Foster Grants

Nic - have you lost your mind?

Ana - stray cat strut

Jenny - so far, only one using half a brain

Isabela - I'm gonna make her an offer she can't refuse

Juan - what happens when a pimp becomes irrelevant

Alicia - once on the makeup merry go round you can never get off

Jardinera, you had me laughing with this excellent recap. Loved your descrition of Isabela as "a barking female pound-hound." Thanks.

It is amazing how effective "disguises" are in telenovela land. Ana in her cat get up trying to "italianize" her conversation with Fernando was my favorite scene. Looks like Fernando now understands the appeal of clubs like "Chicago" and the women who work there. Many funny possibilities!

Jarifa

Whoremones. Brilliant!

Isabella has no business getting involved with this and Fernando has to take a step back and think about Boundaries! He doesn't realize it but he's allowing her to bulldoze her way into his life. We know where this will lead!

Love the new reference to Labios Rojos with Ana's "disguise." But where was the red lipstick? He's going to see through this disguise too quickly.

And where is Diego????

Apologies up front cuz of doing this without CC's again and rushing through late at night. Mumbled dialogue and current kiddie slang are not my strongpoints here, obviously.

My thoughts are that this tn is starting to grow on me despite being one step away from Saturday morning pre-teen fare. For me, it's the chemistry between SN and JS who are terrific actors. That said, I have to shake my head along with UrbanA.

UrbanA: I'm am not sold on this romance between Jen and Pops. Heck, if she were interested in him she'd be physically attracted and who wants to be attracted to some guy your grandpappy's age?

Julia: regarding Nico "Did Nico really think Jen was going to agree to move in with him? After they've been on, what, two dates? Ayiyi." You get the ITSA today! We were tracking too about yelling at the screen to have Ana put on a mask. Worked for Maria in LQLVMR also.

Tofie: the lists always capture the essence of things. I read and wish I had that bullet point aim of yours!

Jarifa: The LoLana scene at the club was my favorite as well.

Yep, this TN as grown on me too Jardinera, and possibly because I've been hit over the head with the darkness of Robo for so many months, I'm loving the more kid-centric fun. Plus, these recaps are beyond fantastic! Who can resist hanging in.

Can't figure out whether the writers are really serious about the Nico/Jen relationship or not, but hurrah! for Jen to take that step back. I like Nico's trying to do what he thinks the kids are doing nowadays, so maybe we are meant to have a parallel with the grown-ups doing dumb stuff so the kids learn along with them how best to know who you are meant for.

Love Love Leon, but this is too good too fast. With Isabella worming her way into Fer's life, I can see her being a disapprover of lowly hard-working Leon. She definitely would stoop to lies and deceit.

I honestly take poor Fer as a rather clueless man with anything outside of work. Add the fact Nico is rather too...we have two good men who aren't very smart and worldly with women. The fact that Nando is a bit of a Geek--I wonder of Fer was one too but was lucky to find and fall for a beautiful woman who loved him back. So he can't see the forest for the trees on how Isabella is actually a manipulative bitch.

Loved the sweetness of big sister helping with little sister's makeup session. So glad they don't have siblings that hate each other...such a tired TN cliché.

My only wish...Ana ditches those spikes she wears around the house. C'mon. Taking care of kids in those heels? I don't think so.

Daisynjay

Thank you, Jardinera, for the excellent recap! I missed seeing this episode.

Really?!?! A mask is all it takes? Wow, Sr. Fernando needs to have his vision checked. Perhaps that explains why he never questioned the fact Nando looks more like Bruno than him.

Also, I love your clever pun: 'whoremones.' Well done!

Jardinera,

You never fail to deliver, whatever the novela.

SN and JS are definitely terrific in this novela. Funny, though, I had my first real doubts about being able to make it to the end with Fernando at the club. If now he has his Lola fantasy going at the same time that we have all the other shenanigans, it is going to be a wild and wooly ride for the writers/directors to keep in some sort of order. But that takes nothing away from them in the scene, especially Jorge with his very light comic touch -- he is the master of his facial expressions for sure.

Mayrin is doing a good job if my hatred of her character is any indication!

Kids remain adorable and so needy for Ana's positive and fun support.

Traveling Lady,

Bigger question is whether the 7 kids will embrace Ana and not treat her like crap ?

Jardinera, it is SO good to see you recapping again! What a wonderful treat for a Sunday morning!!!

...and tofie is here, too! Yippee! More wonderful lists!!

I think SN and JS have such wonderful chemistry. I love watching these two. It makes me happy and happy is what we need after "Robo".

Every time I see the name "Bela", all I can think about is Bela Lugosi. Who knows, eh?

Fatima

I think the effectiveness of Lolana's disguise was enhanced greatly by Fer's sunglasses. Now I don't remember...did he keep them on the whole time they were talking?

Julia, I think the glasses were off...I think....

Fatima

Hi, Jardinera. I am so happy to read one of your excellent recaps. I liked the title.

I need the lightheartedness of novela to balance the darkness of Robo.

I knew that Mayrin would make a deliciously despicable villain.

Fernando's glasses were off during much of the exchange, especially after she disentangled herself from the curtain. Perhaps it was a combination of the commotion, the lighting, Ana's batwoman glasses, the fake accent and doubt Fernando would have ever expect to see his nanny at that club.

Mayrin is good and her character a favorite of mine right now. Never disappointing.

Another funny bit: when Fanny showed the other girls the picture on her phone and told them his name was León, I think Luz said "like Simba!"

Daisynjay: Wow! Bela badmouthing Leon to screw over Fanny. That’s a storyline I could follow.

Ecuador Bound: Welcome to my weekend tn blogging blitz. Don’t forget that Univision shows this one online the day after, as well as Novelayseries.

Traveling Lady: “he is the master of his facial expressions for sure.” Yes and JS says so much with just the flick of an eye or a move of his lip or an eyebrow. Yum!

Fatima: Yes, Bela Lugosi! Vamp that Isabela is!

Susanlynn: ITA with the need for a light and airy comedy after mud-drudging through tragedy-filled Robo which, gratefully (sp?), will be put to bed this coming week—as much as I loved watching it. Go figure! —Actually, maybe I do like Mayrin better as a baddie!

Excellent, a stellar clever Jardinera recap to enjoy while relaxing a cool drink on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Just like old times. Life is good.

As for Ana's disguise... actually it's better than the high-heeled shoes and designer dress that Maricruz (Corazón Indomable) chose to confuse and confound poor Octavio.

Just a thought, wouldn't you think that when Isabela kissed Fernando that he might have noticed that she is a smoker? Tic Tacs? Certs?

Carlos

Adriana Noel,

Thanks for your excellent recap of Thursday's episode. How good it is to be reading your work once more. I'm a fan.

Carlos

Thanks Jardinera, I missed you nicknames you're so good at coming up with since the last TN we followed together.I loved Whoremone lol.

I'm with all of you, sunglasses as a disguise, and it worked!?! Did I see in the preview that he comes back and she's not in disguise? I would love it if he does that but she never finds out that he knows about her other job, and he continues to keep her on as the nanny. That would be fun. The stirred up feelings that that would cause, whoo boy.

Carlos, thanks for the reminder about Corazon Indomable and idiot Octavio not recognizing MC, and what a stupid show that was, lol.

Carlos, to be fair to poor dim Octavio, Maricruz also took a bath and washed her hair. And they say smell is the most memorable sense.

Nooooooooooooooooo, ya'll mentioned the CI word and right when the nightmares have finally stopped.

Yippee!! Nanette is here with here wonderful lists! Thank you, Nanette! :))

Fatima

Tofie, it's gonna be fun watching the villans trying to throw roadblocks at Ana.

Jardinea: So sorry to be late. Enjoyed every word of your recap. So clever and great fun. Wonderful summary.

"the heretofore unknown epicurean delight of such common fare as the taco"; "starts to place a mushy mouth meld on Business Babe"; "She begins her dance act which immediately mesmerizes our unworldly, unwitting, and readily dupable Don Fernando" were among my favorites and the excellent “Bela's whore-mones are anything but hopping. Nope. Bela just broods” was fantastic.

"campy-bad Batman skits" really brought me back. What an array of villains - Eartha Kitt even George Sanders for heavens sake (am I showing my age or what??)

Julia, appreciate your nod to Fedra and in terms of who wore the mask best, I might have to give this to Ana.

Like Daisy and Susanlynn, I am welcoming this light fare while the dark forces of Robo are continuing to strike. As you and others mentioned Jardinera, the SN/JS chemistry is what is keeping me here. And the marvelous Rene Casados.

I like the Nico/Jen relationship and would like to see where it goes. But, I shuddered at the key, ahh, moving a bit too fast for sure. That would have scared me as well.

Nanette - "Ana’s table antics. I loved her spit take" made me laugh - your lists were great. Tofie, enjoyed "Juan - what happens when a pimp becomes irrelevant" as well.

Enjoying the show but the recaps and comments even more.

Diana

Sorry, Jardinera, not Jardinea. Not enough coffee!

Diana

Jardinera, Tofie, Nanette, it was a miracle i got through it all without spilling half my coffee on my work desk... Perfect!! all the way through!...
I agree that the JS and SN chemistry is starting to build... and the favs of mine were also the Fer/Catwoman convos ... and I am a sucker for turned-around cinderella stories like Leon and Fanny... hopefully Isa won't add Leon as a target for her 'get rid of' list...
Loved Luz saying 'like Simba!' when Fanny mentioned Leon's name.
Also loved Leon's drawing of Fanny and Jenny's engaging Bella, although that will only get her higher rank on Bella's 'hit list'.

I kind of like the idea of Fernando recognizing Ana at the club but she not seeing him... it would lead to some interesting 'your secret - my secret' situations for sure. If this happens I sure hope he won't trust Bella with the info... or it could get rough for Ana and Jen.

Thanks for the recap Jardinera!

I think Fernando was in a trance induced by watching real pole dancing. These poor telenovela characters always seem to enjoy dull moves next to the pole so seeing one actually working it might have been too much.

León is cute, I like him. I actually know a person with both his name and last name, that's funny because it hadn't happened yet in all my time watching telenovelas.

For anyone who might be watching all three telenovelas: Paulina Goto (Fany), Verónica Jaspeado (Finita) and Natasha Dupeyrón (Frida) were in a teen show called Miss XV and I found
this video of all of them singing:

Soy un desastre

Paulina Goto had the main role. I didn't remember Vero Jaspeado in that show. She always seems like a fun addition to any project.

Jarocha

Thanks, Jarocha, the Youtube clip was fun.

Jarifa

Thanks Fatima, Diana and Martaivett. I enjoy doing the HPLP list and am glad that others like them, too.

I debated about putting this in the low points, but didn't: though I liked the drawing of Fanny when Leon when he was working on it (definitely HP), I didn't like the finished product as much. Looked too much like a photograph. Which is bizarre. Because I DO like old paintings that look real enough to be photographs.

I've been commenting without thanking the recappers. My bad. You guys do such an awesome job. Sometimes I really feel like taking a break from TNs, but know I would miss you recappers--and commenters--too much. I feel like we're all buds together.

Nanette

Jardinera--Wow, what a treat to see your name at the bottom of the recap. Last time I had the pleasure was when we were watching Fuego en la Sangre! Thanks very much, not only is you recap great but it also sparks a lot of wonderful comments.

I do not believe the May/December romance between Don Nico and Jennifer will continue for long. Jenn will break his heart and they will dig up an age-appropriate widow for him. Too bad, but that's the way it usually goes...

J in Oregon (formerly "Creemelo")

Great recap, Jardinera. Wonderful to see your work again--you were recapping TNs I wasn't watching. I could tell it was you by the structure of your witticisms.

Thanks to all of you--even the ones I couldn't reply to due to family and work obligations. It's good to be back and to chat with all of you again! Nannett's lists are always something I looked forward to --so thanks, amiga!
