Hasta el Fin Del Mundo #11 9/1/14 Lies, Spies and Treachery

Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! The show is starting to heat up. Before we get started I have something just for Mads:

I found Pato's cat.

Let's get to it!

Lupe' cries over a photo of her and Javier the Dirtbag in happier days. Chava sees her tears and tells her to think of Javier as if he were dead.
"But he's not dead."
Chava realizes the truth, "So it's Javier that you've been seeing!"

Pato is on the phone with the DNA doctor. Peralta's right hand man, Renzi, comes into the restaurant. He listens in on the end of Pato's call.
"Yes, I can get samples. I'll bring them in tomorrow."
Pato ends the call and they bear hug. "Did you bring what I asked for?"
Renzi pulls a gadget from his inside pocket. "No door is closed to me."
Pato says it's time to go and heads out the door. Before Renzi leaves he picks up Pato's cup and finishes his coffee. I'm really surprised he didn't pocket the leftover pastries too. Just down the sidewalk Silvana watches them from behind a signboard. They get into a gray car. Silvana hails a cab and tells the driver to follow them.

Chava reminds Lupe' that even though Javier is his father, Javier is still nothing but a low-down, no-good, dirty rotten rat bastard. Listen to your son, Lupe': Once a dirtbag, Always a dirtbag! He tells Lupe that when Javier calls she should just hang up. Lupe' agrees. She says it's over - but her face says something else.

Greta enters her studio at the Ripoll mansion and finds Sofia waiting for her. Greta is angry that Sofia has invaded her private space without permission. Sofia is trying hard to understand her mother's feelings, but she'd still like Greta to explain what she knows about Paco. Sofia met him the day of the Ripoll Anniversary celebration. He was outside the factory. And Dani said that Paco refuses to sell Ripoll Chocolates in his store. Sofia demands to know what Paco has against the Ripoll family. Greta claims to have no idea what Sofia is talking about. Sofia says, "That's a lie!"

Chava goes to Paco's store and finds Paco closing it for the day. He doesn't feel like working. Chava asks if he needs to talk. Paco wants to go home. They can talk there.

Lupe' is in the kitchen chopping vegetables for dinner. The phone rings but she ignores it and continues with her work. It rings and rings. Should she answer? It might be Javier. Finally she picks it up. It's him. "What do you want Javier?" She tells him she doesn't want to see him. "Leave me alone! Stay out of my life!" Lupe' hangs up and cries.

Paco begins his story. He was born in the neighborhood and learned to cook by working in restaurants. Paco learned to make many dishes, his specialty was desserts. He especially enjoyed working with chocolate.
Chava smiles, "So you were like Maestro Coria."
Paco slams his fists on the table and hovers over Chava like an angry hornet. "Don't ever mention that traitor's name in my house!" He storms off into his room. Chava puzzles to himself, "Coria is the traitor? I thought it was a woman who betrayed him."

Greta supposes that Paco worked for Octavio sometime in the past. She waves her arm around. "Who knows what the guy's upset over? Probably money." Martin Coria's death and funeral has upset her. Greta refuses to talk about it anymore. She orders Sofia out.

Who knows? Who cares? Get out.

Pato and Renzi park in front of a building. Silvana tells the cabby to pull over. She watches as Renzi picks the lock on the door then motions for Pato to follow. Silvana sits back, "That's Maestro Coria's house..."

Irma struggles to lug her boxes and bags of cosmetics toward home when suddenly the heel of her shoe breaks off. Frustrated and angry she dumps everything on a low wall and sits down to rub her leg. Things go from bad to worse when Irma gets a mental image of a smiling Alexa introducing herself at the mall. A trash collector wheels his garbage cart along the sidewalk and picks up the heel. Poor guy is just doing his job but Irma yells at him, rushes over and literally wrestles the heel away from him.

What's she doing selling cosmetics? She belongs in the WWE.

Irma has reached her breaking point. She stomps back to the wall picks up the bags and boxes and pitches them all into the garbage cart. "Take this crap with you!" The garbage man quickly makes his escape. Irma paces back and forth then stops and screams like a mad woman. (I thought this scene was hysterical. Been there. Done that. Just sayin'.)

Honestly, is there any woman who hasn't felt like this
at one time or another?

To his credit, Armie has picked up Nando from Tae Kwan Do. Nando is sitting in the back of the car with Alexa, eating an ice cream cone. The ice cream drops off the cone onto the seat and Alexa's jeans. Nando picks up the ice cream and plops it back onto the cone, then wipes his hand on his pants. Alexa isn't happy. Armie leans over the back seat and promises that he'll take care of the mess and clean the car. Alexa thinks back to her childhood when she dropped her ice cream in the car. Her dad didn't yell at her. He just laughed and said, "A big problem, a big solution." She softens and tells Nando, "A big problem, a big solution." They all laugh.

Lucas sings to Dani as they walk around the 'hood. She thinks he has a great voice. He says he plays guitar and writes lyrics too. While they talk about music a police car rolls up. Dani notices the look on Lucas' face, "Are they looking for you?"

At Coria's house Pato and Renzi search around for something. Pato goes in the bathroom and finds a hairbrush. Aha! DNA sample! Outside Silvana wonders what Pato is up to. "He's going to have some explaining to do."

Sofia is upset and rushes into the study. Fausto follows and asks what she is going to do. She needs to go out. She needs to get away from here.

Paco continues his story. Mr. Ripoll, Sofia's grandfather, owned a hotel with a wonderful restaurant. It had one of the best chefs in the world. Chava asks, "Is that how you met Octavio Ripoll?" Paco nods, "Octavio was kind of lazy and irresponsible. He lived off the family money. But his father demanded that he do something productive with his life. The hotel became famous for its food, especially the chocolate desserts."

Pato drops the hairbrush into a plastic bag. Renzi asks why Pato is taking the hairbrush. "This will prove that Martin Coria is the biological father of Sofia Ripoll." He plans on using that information to keep his mother-in-law in line. They laugh.

Back at the store, Paco thanks Chava for listening. Chava mentions Octavio again and Paco blurts out, "Octavio and I were going to be business partners in the factory. He would put up the money and I would provide the formulas. But I was betrayed by Octavio and that cowardly, mediocre Coria! I was caught in their trap! I have suffered and been tormented by their treachery! I lost what was most valuable to me. But they are both in hell now." Chava tries cheering him up. "Paco, when the dog is dead the rabies dies with it!" Well, okay. That was... cheerful. Dead dogs and rabies will cheer anyone up. Paco asks Chava to keep the story to himself. Chava assures Paco not to worry, he won't tell anyone.

Pato and Renzi leave Coria's house. Silvana has to wake her driver who asks if she still wants him to follow the car. She needs to go back to the café. She thought bubbles, "Pato is up to something dirty."

Dani and Lucas run through town. She stops. She doesn't want to do this. She runs off and he yells for her to wait. He follows her.

Irma walks on praying to God to help her find the garbage man. She's got to get her stuff back! She spots the cart and dashes to it. She starts pulling trash bags out and dropping them on the sidewalk. "Please give me my stuff back! Don't tell me you've already dumped it!" He motions Irma to the other side of the cart where her stuff is hanging and helps her retrieve it. "Oh, thank you! Thank you!"

Armie pulls up outside Paco's store. He tells Alexa that he needs to drop Nando off here and he'll just be a minute. Paco asks Armie, "Is that Octavio Ripoll's car?" Armie admits that it is, and that the woman inside is Alexa Ripoll. For once Paco lets it be and asks Nando if he's hungry. Armie goes back to the car and finds Alexa crying. "Are you okay?" She tells him that she remembers this neighborhood; driving around it with her dad as a kid when they'd go to the factory. It brings back so many memories. She'd like to go home now.

Lucas finds Dani in a big pavilion. She tells him the history of the building. "It was built in the 1800's by hundreds of workers. And none of them were thieves. I can't be with a thief. It's wrong. I'm sorry. Good-bye." He calls to her. She turns and looks at him, then walks away.

Paco tells Nando that there is a ghost in the neighborhood. "It's in the factory. It goes out at night and looks for a magic notebook." Nando's eyes get bigger. Paco continues in a near whisper, "It searches and searches for the magic notebook. But when the ghost finally finds it, he discovers he can't read it! And he screams! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!" Nando jumps backward. Paco laughs.

Thanks to Paco, Irma's gonna have to use stain remover
 on the kid's underwear!

Sofia calls Pat who is still in the car with Renzi. She needs a break from her mother and wants to get out of the house. He tells her he will take care of her in the way she deserves. He'll come and get her and they'll spend the evening together. Renzi laughs, "I'm good at breaking into houses and you're good at breaking hearts." Pato says this is part of the plan to get construction started in the neighborhood. Tonight he'll have Sofia Ripoll right where he wants her.

Sofia dials her cell and gets Chava by mistake. She gets flustered and hangs up. She pictures Chava in her mind. "What is wrong with me? Why did I hang up?" Fausto comes in to ask about dinner. She needs to ask him something. "You have my complete attention." Sofia tells him she dialed Salvador by mistake. She got flustered and hung up. Why do I feel like a schoolgirl around him? Fausto thinks the heart has a mind of it's own and doesn't always follow social conventions or rules.

Chava wonders why Sofia called. Is she in trouble? Does she need something? His phone rings. It's Sofia. She explains that she dialed him by mistake, but she'll see him tomorrow. He smiles.

Alexa arrives at home. Greta asks how she is and wants to see all the things Alexa bought. Alexa begs off. She's tired and wants to rest. Greta gives Armie a look of concern. He explains that Alexa's mood is his fault. They stopped to drop off his son on their way home. "You took her to the neighborhood near the factory?" Greta tells Armie not to take Alexa there again. "Please don't expose my daughter to sad memories."

Sofia tells Pato that she is worried that her mother and sisters think she is a tyrant. She feels so alone. Pato reassures her that he cares, she's not alone.

Irma is eating dinner when Armie comes home. She grabs both plates off the table, then takes away the food. They start to argue about picking up Nando. "All I asked you to do was to pick up your son."
He yells, "You made me look bad in front of my boss!"
Irma yells back, "Well your boss was parading you around like some kind of trophy! She wants you for more than a chauffeur. She wants you."
Armie's phone rings. Irma listens in.
He hangs up. "I have to go."
"Uh huh. That was convenient."
"It was Cuco. He says it's an emergency."
"Yeah, right." They argue all the way to the door.

Sofia tells Pato how she tried to talk to Greta, but Greta made her leave the studio. "She practically kicked me out!" He pours some wine. "It sounds like she hasn't gotten over her memories. Something is bothering her conscience." Pato slips a dropper full of something into Sofia's wine. "Let's toast to love and to our future." He hands her the glass and she sips. He watches.

What a jerk! He drugs her just to pull a few hairs?
He couldn't just put his arm around her
and "accidently" catch her hair in his watchband?

Lupe' and Chava eat dinner and talk about Paco. Lupe thinks Paco looks lost. Chava agrees, "He has his reasons." Chava gets a call from Ceci. Does he want to go out tonight?

Sofia lays on the couch with her head on a pillow in Pato's lap. She talks about Marin Coria. "He had recipes and formulas that he would write down in a little notebook. Every year he started a new notebook and he'd burn the old one. It was his book of secrets." She falls asleep. Pato stokes her hair. "That notebook isn't the only secret that will be uncovered."

Chava's phone rings again. It's Cuco telling him of the emergency. Chava calls Ceci back and cancels. Lupe wants to know all about Ceci. Chava says she's a free spirit. They hang out together but she's not his girlfriend. Chava's eyes get all dreamy. He says with a smile, "My days of dating different woman are over. I want to settle down with just one woman."

Xint, this was amazing. The title was spot on, screen shots sensational and Snidley’s cat was “purrrrfect”. Sorry, couldn’t resist :).

"What's she doing selling cosmetics? She belongs in the WWE" and "Well, okay. That was... cheerful. Dead dogs and rabies will cheer anyone up" were among my many favorites.

I so enjoyed your slight touch of dramatic flair: "Chava realizes the truth, "So it's Javier that you've been seeing!" Excellent!

Greta was in full avoidance mode. The best defense is a good offense and she played the part to the hilt.

I was a bit surprised at Renzi settling for a second hand sip of coffee from Pato’s cup. “I'm really surprised he didn't pocket the leftover pastries too” – yes me too Xint!

I couldn't believe Pato sunk so low for a few hair samples either. He thinks he has it all figured out -that Coria is Sofia's father. Too bad the DNA test will refute that so quickly. Since he has no reason to connect Paco to Sofia, let's hope that little fact continues to elude him for quite some time.

I did feel for Irma. Why do we have such disasters at the least opportune time? Losing our heels, falling, the list goes on and on. She really has no reason to be jealous of Alexa. Yet. I suspect (no spoiler), that she will indeed be justified at some point in the not too distant future.

Chava is on Sofia's mind. And so it begins.

Thank you Xint! Marvelous, as always.

Diana

Xlnt, thanks for the very fine recap with screen caps. Very entertaining.

Loved the dog/rabies proverb. So funny.

Nandito sure hit it on the head when he called Alexa "la niña gigante" the "gigantic little girl".

I am getting impatient and want to hear the whole Octavio-Coria-Paco-Greta story already. So far it has just been more emotion than info.

So Pato thinks that Coria is Sofía's father? Hmmmm. Not what I was thinking. Maybe he will end up doing a couple of tests until he hits the truth. So, he says he just wants the info to keep Greta in line. Blackmail, I repeat. Could he leverage the sale of the Ripoll property with that? Just wondering . . .

Pato just got creepier-if that were possible- drugging Sofía.

The previous post was by Jarifa.

xInt:

This recap is so marvelous from you the way you wrote this and from those marvelous screenshots and especially that most purrrrfect picture of Snidely Whiplash's cat, I'm still laughing.

Paco seemed a bit more human this episode, and I'm still laughing about Irma needing stain remover for poor Nandito's pants. Paco is good at telling stories. I am also glad he told Chava some of his history although not the part about Greta.

I had to laugh at Pato and Renzi. Wait until he finds out the ADN isn't going to match. Pato must have given Sofia truth telling serum. Poor thing. I want her to see how slimy he is.

I did like Sofia's talk with Fausto. He was so right on.

I did laugh at Irma's little tantrum. Too funny.

I was surprised at Alexa's reaction to Nandito's accident with the ice cream and that saying, it was sweet. I am thinking Armando is good for her.

I wonder what the emergency is at Cuco's? Can't wait to find out.

Thanks again xInt for this most funny and marvelous recap, you made my day!

xlnt - Thanks for a fun recap. I too loved If Snidely Whiplash had a cat and your riff on Renzi finishing Pato's coffee. Love the photo of Irma howling.

I didn't know Roberto Palazuelos was going to be in this TN. Looking forward to him and Julián Gil working together. Pato is bad, but he sure looks good in a suit. It was awful of him to drug Sofia but he didn't take sexual advantage of her, so I've penciled him in for possible redemption.

I can understand Chavo's anger, but if his mom is still hung up on Javier he needs to let her be. Apparently, the dirt bag is the only man that's ever made her happy.

Yay, Dani's brain started kicking in and beat out her hormones. I guess running from the police has lost its romantic glow.

LOL! That cat picture made me smile. Thanks, Cathy/Xlnt!

Are we sure Pato isn't planning on doing something sexual with Sofia? I'm sure he'll pull some hair for the DNA test, but I can also see him undressing her and putting her in bed with him to try to convince her they did the deed. I'm glad that his DNA test will turn up with nada, but I applaud the effort he's put into getting the samples from Coria and Sofia.

Didn't Renzi call Pato primo/cousin? I was also sure he was going to pick up Pato's leftover pastries on the table. I would have chosen that over Pato's backwash coffee. Yuck!

Did anyone else think it was kind of mean of Alexa's dad to take that sharp turn as she was trying to eat her ice-cream? It seemed to me that he did that on purpose. Alexa's idolizes her father, but we know he wasn't a great guy, and I get the feeling there is something sinister about his relationship with Alexa. She just seems to screwed up, and too sensitive about anything that has to do with her father and their time together.

Vivi:

When Alexa was little she did commercials for Ripoll chocolate. I think Ocatvio was instrumental in that. It too wonder why he took such a sharp turn. I remember Alexa saying that after she grew up and the commercials stopped, she tried to transition to doing more acting but it never panned out. She is acting like a lot of child actors that nothing panned out for. I get that vibe from her. I wonder if she left Mexico to find acting jobs or left when her Papa died.

Mads- I know she's basically a washed up child actor, after years being the coddled "Ripoll Girl" of the company ads. But there just seems to also be something else there. Like some great pain or hurt. Maybe I'm making Alexa deeper than she is. :)

Hmmm... two bodyguards fall for mother and daughter... I mean, two chauffeurs fall for two sisters. One of them has a screeching shrew baby momma who will probably drive him to the other woman with her jealousy and accusations. Reminds me of Amores Verdaderos.

Anon 2:49- The writers, Enrique Estevanez and Marcela Citterio, are the same in this and AV. They also wrote Corazon Valiente that aired on Telemundo last year. In that one, two FEMALE bodyguards, one with a crazy ex who is her baby-daddy, fall for the two men they are guarding. Notice a pattern? :)

Welcome Sairis! We're glad to have you commenting here! I too was glad that Dani dumped Lucas. Unfortunately I think Chava's sister Marisol will fall for him now. She has watched her mother go back to Javier, and even though he's a louse Marisol still loves daddy. I'm afraid there may be a pattern.

Mads, glad you liked the cat. I couldn't resist.

Vivi, I too get that vibe that there's more to the Alexa/Octavio relationship. Otherwise, why would Greta refer to Alexa's time with her father as "sad memories"? Shouldn't those memories be happy? I also hope Pato's plan is only getting a DNA sample and not date rape or even fake date rape.

Thanks xint, what a funny recap, well-selected photos, and hilarious captions.

Sorry I'm so late, I just wanted to echo the praise for this recap and express my appreciation.

Carlos

Thanks xlnt for the terrific recap!

I loved the screen shots and the captions!

Patricio is sure in for a surprise when he gets the results of the DNA test.

Yay!! More info on what happened in the past between Paco and Octavio.

I'm glad Daniela dumped Lucas. He's nothing but a theif and Daniela is right that she has no future with someone like him.
