La Gata #11 - Mon 9/15 - La Correspondencia

Please don't go, Pablo!  Well, he's going, and he intends to send Gata money and have her join him in New York.  No worries--his dad will help.  Gata suggests, since there are so many more jobs there, she can just go with him now and start working.  But nooooooo, Pablo and his misguided pride need to do it on his own.  What about staying and letting Gata provide for him?  Pablo and his misguided pride need to do it on his own.

Carrrrlos comes looking for Virginia and thankfully, when she pulls up in front of the house, she's alone!

Gata cries in Fela's lap about Pablo leaving.  Fela is sure he's never coming back, 'cause that's what dudes do.  They say they'll come back, but they just leave you lonely and it drives you crazy.  She flashes back to sitting with Silencioso, sans beard, in the living room of Casa Negrete, which was far less decorated than it is now, with the baby, and having Silencioso dragged out.  Fela thinks it's better to be crazy and take her baby doll out for a walk.  Well, sure, when reality sucks this bad…screw it!

The chauffeur is a little worried about leaving Virginia alone with Carrrrrlos, but he has more loyalty to her and Pablo than he does to Lorenza, so he has no problem leaving her for five minutes while he drives the car around the block.  Carrrrrrrlos couldn't wait to see her again--harpy of a mother be damned!  Virginia just beams.

Even Jarocha doesn't think Pablo's coming back.  Rich dudes only marry rich chicks.  And rich daddies can always find work for their rich sons.

Virginia wants Carrrrrrrlos to be more familiar with her.  She asks him to describe himself…and he gets stuck on whether he's handsome or not.  He admits the ladies seem to like him.  Awwwwwww yeah!  She asks him about school and says at least he can see the letters, so that's an advantage for him.  She can read, in her own way…though she'd rather read with his eyes.  I'm a pervey perv, 'cause I was hoping she'd read him.  Too soon?

Doña Rita is thrilled that Pablo is leaving, per Gata, because now she can say "I told you so."

Agustin toasts Pablo's leaving.  Virginia is going to miss him.  Lorenza is too, but she gets all crabby when she hears that once Pablo gets a job, he's bringing his girlfriend to live with him.  Agustin hints rather heavily that she ought to go check Pablo's luggage to make sure he's taking enough clothes.  She complies like…well, like Agustin usually does.

Silencioso carves some wood and remembers toasting marshmallows with Fela and the baby kicking.

How many times are these kids going to say goodbye?  Pablo, of course, thinks everything will go well and they'll be together again soon.  Gata is probably hearing the downer voices of Rita, Fela, and Jarocha, and the shriekiness of Lorenza in her head and thinking the worst.  They make plans about staying in touch via computer, but Gata doesn't have a lot of experience with computers and the whole camera thing creeps her out.  They have teary goodbye smoochies.

Gata cries over Pablo alone.

Silencioso remembers the baby kicking again.

Gata walks alone and cries.  She's wearing her little black dress and carrying white flowers and it seems a little ominous with the music.  And well, because of all the plotting she doesn't know about that we do.  Back at Rita's, she puts the flowers in a vase and greets Principe!  (Yay!  Principe!  Drink.)  She pulls the drawing that Pablo gave her out of the box and looks at it.

The entire family goes to escort Pablo to his doom.  Digo…to the airport.  Poor Victoria!  She's going to be alone in that house with all those horrible people!

Doña Rita gloats to Gata that Pablo will be seducing American dames by this time tomorrow.  She decides to consult the cards…there's no wedding, but lots of tears.

Gata is trying to use the computer at the Internet shack, but she ends up having to resort to letting Ines help her.  Ines mocks their silly email address…pabloandesmeraldaforever…and in one of the funniest moments this episode, Gata asks "Are you going to help me or make fun of me?"  "I can do both."

Esmeralda reads Pablo's email, in which he whines about waiting for her to log in so they could video chat.  Like she has money for computer time when she barely has money to eat!  There's still a few more things he has to do before he's legal to work.  His dad's totes going to help him with those.  She decides to have Damian send her reply for her.

Omar drops Virginia off at one of those cafes where the food rides by on a conveyor belt.  Carrrrrrrlos joins her, with flowers.  She can sense his presence.  Because lurrrrrve!  She loves that he brought her wildflowers.  And she already feels like they're one.  Moving a little fast there, Virginia…but that's ok…I approve.

Pablo whines to Lorenza about not being able to get a job because he can't get the right visa.  And no, mother, it's not about the money, it's about Pablo wanting Esmeralda to be there with him.  Doesn't she understand how hard it is for Esmeralda to even send him an email?!  More like she doesn't care, Pabs.  Virginia and her wildflowers get home and have to face Lorenza.

Don Italiano, aka "Meatball" is STILL trying to date Gata.  She throws his flowers and whatever was in the box (and I'm so glad we didn't see it!) right out the door.

Virginia lies and tells Lorenza she was at her piano lesson and she got the flowers from the garden at the music school.  Lorenza tells the nosy maid she's going to find out what's up with Virginia and put an end to it.

Gata tells Meatball that they are never ever getting together, no matter what Rita says.  Nor does Rita have any reason to be telling Meatball everything about her life.

What is Lorenza wearing?  That outfit is just too much houndstooth all over!  She takes a look at the email Pablo sent to Agustin about wanting to marry Esmeralda and wanting his dad to help him get a permit.  She hates that just sending him to New York wasn't enough to get him to drop Esme.  Augie hasn't answered yet…he's just stalling him for now.  Lorenza wants to offer Gata money to stay away from Pablo, but again…he's in New York.  They're already separated.  Lorenza is upset that SHE is having to suffer Pablo's absence.  Augie says he's spending far too much time and money dealing with this "diplomatically" instead of taking drastic action.  Lorenza says Gata will pay for all the pain she's causing her.  And you, Lorenza, you will pay for the pain you're causing me with your nasty attitude and your bizarro houndstooth pajamas.

Pablo sits alone in his apartment and wishes Esme would accept money from his father so they can use a webcam.  Priorities, Pablo.

Gata writes to Pablo by hand.

Agustin checks over his email response to Pablo where he says his buddy is doing everything he can, but that Pablo's status as a foreign student is complicating things.  It's been two months.  Pablo is impatient.

Gata gives Damian the letter to send to Pablo.  He's already memorized the account and password, and he's sure there will be an email from Pablo waiting for him to print.

Pablo sits down to write an email to Gata telling her he's decided to ask his dad for a loan and send for her soon.  Esme reads the email and reads that he asked his dad to get her a passport and if necessary, a birth certificate.  He tells her not to worry about Rita, 'cause it's not like Rita has ever cared about her anyway.  Gata and a bunch of little kids get back to their panhandling and washing windows at a stoplight.

Gata gets home and finds Rita asleep at the table.  She says Ines never made it home from a study date last night and she didn't get any sleep.  Studying?  Is that what the kids are calling it these days?  Gata tells Rita not to sleep when she's out of the house anymore and to make sure she locks the door once Centavito and Ines get home.  She tells Rita she's moving to New York  because she loves Pablo annnnnnnnd…she faints.  Rita finally wakes her up and thinks Gata just hasn't been eating.  She sends her to bed.  Gata mentally thanks Rita for being so kind to her.

Agustin consults with Rita.  What?!  When did they meet?!  They're both agreed that Gata and Pablo shouldn't be together.  Agustin gives Rita money and she says she'll get the username and password of the email address.  She doesn't think Gata would be stupid enough to give it to her, but she's sure Ines can get it.  He thinks that he was right and Rita will be completely loyal to him for money.

Gata and Jarocha are giving Fela a bath with a garden hose attached to a plastic canister, with a manual pump.  Jarocha stands on a ladder and pumps and water comes out the end of the hose.  Gata asks Jarocha to look after Fela and Rita after she leaves.  For all Jarocha's gloom-and-doom lectures, she's happy that Gata is going to go be with Pablo.  But no way is she going to look after Rita.  Jarocha still doesn't trust Pablo's dad.  They talk about how Gata will get married in "Los Uniteds" and send back some pictures.  Jarocha is worried about the fainting, because unlike other people in telenovelas she seems to have actually watched a few and we ALL know what fainting means, right?  But maybe…but no…but yes?  Jarocha never gets the question out.

The Meatball continues lusting.  I ignore him.  Lupe tells him to forget it.

Agustin wrote Pablo that he'd do anything to keep him happy and he'll take care of getting Esme there, and he's so happy they're getting married.  And hey, don't worry about paying back the loan, 'cause it's all about his happiness.  Lorenza practically chokes on her outrage.  She hates that he's even SAYING he supports Pablo and Esmeralda's relationship.  Augie tells her to chill and calls someone to tell them to make the girl disappear already.

Two random dudes bust into Rita's shack and grab Gata.

Tomorrow: Dudes kidnap; Rita complains; Augie gloats.

Mis peeps, this is going to be a rough week! Sara's computer is determined to kick the bucket and tomorrow night is the only night I don't have a concert or a rehearsal! Bear with us as we do our best to bring you all the latest Gata-y goodness and if anyone can pitch in, we would be happy to have you as a special guest star or a recurring cast member.

Thanks for the recap, Kat. I'm loving your commentary about Pablo and priorities. Oh and I agree that those houndstooth jammies were awful. I am a big Bama fan and I normally like hounds tooth.

OK. What's the deal with the fainting? Is she or isn't she? Did we miss a scene? It hasn't even been implied that they slept together!

Thanks to you & Sara for all your dedication and effort, helping us, while managing your busy lives.

Sums up spoiled Pablo & cast away Kitty's relationship perfectly when she mused. "Like she has money for computer time when she barely has money to eat!" Pablo ain't in NY, he lives on another planet.

I noticed when Carlos met Virginia at the restaurant he was self conscious about his dirty hands and hid them under the table, nice detail along with that ragged shirt. The two worlds so far apart.

Lorenza - houndstooth bedecked basset-hound

Pablo - nice brownstone apartment to got there buddy

Silencioso - remember when we had that sepia-tone weenie roast

Virginia - watch it, that prison guard one tough bitch

Meatball - personal space invader

Rita - follow the money

Fela - lets have a wet T-Shirt contest

Esmeralda - promises like candy you cannot eat

Agustin - riffraff in my Rolodex

Good morning, 5ft, and thanks again for another great recap.

Boy, with all the somber overtones last night, all thoughts of turning this into a musical seemed unlikely.

I guess I missed something regarding the rational for why it would be better for Pablo to go to New York. Also, "And rich daddies can always find work for their rich sons." Yes! So why is Pablo buying into all this stuff that his dear old dad engineered?

I loved your "...I was hoping she'd read him."

Unless the kidnappers hold Esme, it seems to me that she has survival skills to cope with whatever happens.

Thanks again 5ft for helping us understand all of this.

David

Yes 5ft, awesome recap!!!
Yay for Principe sighting (drink!). And, I don't think you're a pervy-perv for hoping to see a Virg-Carrrrlos encounter, I'm ready for that too, or for any little happiness that doesn't involve starvation or madness. *Sigh*

J in Oregon

Sara---Have you been praying to the computer gods?

5ft. Diva---I hope you get help, Gata is just to good to be left out of novela land recaps.

Great job 5ft. It hit me, an awesome line---Poor Victoria! She's going to be left alone in that house with all those horrible people.

Another good one---Are you going to help me or make fun of me? I can do both.

I agree that as long as there is money for her, Rita will sellout Gata in a heartbeat.

Gata's fainting threw me last night. Pregnant? Have we been missing something?

Tofie---I starting laughing even before I got to your one liners.
Pablo's not living in NY, he's on another planet.

Fela ---In a wet t-shirt contest?
Nooooooo

Agustin---Riffraff in my Rolodex.
For sure.

Right David---The musical was a good idea but now, not so much.

Right again David---There must be a Gata escape coming soon.

Everyone seems to be working against poor Esmeralda, the poor girl doesn't seem to have a fighting chance. And that's especially true if Pablo can't get his brain cells working. Octavio?

A big day today for me, maybe all week. Will read all comments this evening.

Kat, if no one else can fill in, I'll try to do a one-time summary list tonight. (Will have to grit my teeth because this TN makes me angry.)

5ft - Thanks for the laughs and the details too.

Ready for Silencioso to get his venganza on. Poor Fela is so scattered that even though she saw him taken away by force she believes he abandoned her. I've only seen Manuel Ojeda in evil parts. Interesting choice to cast him as a Gata's good dad. Time to trim that beard and clean him up.

So cute when Virginia wondering about Carlos's looks asked him if he was blanco or moreno and he replied "a bit moreno" with that sweet smile of his.

I vote Esmeralda's got a vitamin deficiency, and not a bun in the oven.

I'm cross-posting this to both yesterday and today. As soon as that's done, I will read all your excellent comments and reply!

Hi Rosa, please let us know if there are sections where you need more info and someone is bound to be able to tell you!

Anon Tuesday at 2:02, thanks for the enthusiasm. The recap went up about 4 minutes after your post. I hope you've seen it by now!

Because I want to make sure you know we're not just ignoring you when you ask for "more" or "faster," here are some things to keep in mind: There are only 2 of us working on these, which means more days per person, which means more chances of that pesky thing called life getting in the way. Recaps take as long as they take, just depending on the individual recapper and the level of detail they go into. And they are "recaps"--a little summary, a litle description, a little humor, etc. Sometimes a recapper may give you word-for-word in sections, but not the whole thing. Otherwise it would be a transcript and that's just not what we do here (plus, transcripts take FOREVER...have you ever tried transcribing something without all the special equipment? I don't wish that on anybody!). I am in Arizona, which means that right now the show airs 3 hours later than it does on the East coast, at 6pm local time. It's pretty much guaranteed that anything that takes me out of the house in the evening will have me leaving before or during the airing of the show and not getting back home until after 10pm...that's 1am Eastern. Getting it done and posted at close to 11 last night was near-miraculous! It actually would have been fair game for me to do it early this morning instead. As long as we're getting recaps up before the next episode airs, we're technically "on time." We make efforts to do it as early as possible because we love talking about the show as much as you do.

Gracias, all, for the comments!

La Paloma, I will gladly take you up on your offer! Do you have posting privileges already, or do I need to post it for you? Let me know. Whatever level of detail or lack thereof that suits your mood and the nail-biting events of tonight will be wonderful and much appreciated!

Sara, my retinas are still burned.

tofie, he does indeed live on another planet. What an apartment for a student!

David, gracias. I'm sure she'll have a taillight kicked out and her arm sticking out in no time.

J, they're really cutting into our Principe time. She used to take him everywhere...now he just hangs out at Rita's all day. That's nobody's idea of a good time.

gringo, it'll all be ok. I won't let you go Gata-less. And La Paloma has volunteered for tonight, so, yay!

Niecie, I think you're right. If they'd had some afternoon delight on the hillside, we would have gotten a hint at the very least! Poor girl is probably malnourished. And dehydrated from all the crying.

I didn't think we'd missed Rita meeting Agustin, either and suddenly...poof! There she was! I smell editing.

Thanks so much, 5ft.

I felt so sorry for poor Carlos in that restaurant. First, he seemed self conscious due to his dirty face and tattered shirt, and second, that odd little trolley kept moving those tasty desserts right past him. Pobrecito.

My daughter rented a tiny apartment in New York City which she shared with three other girls , so I can imagine how much Pablo's posh pad is costing Mommy and Daddy Dearest. The rent could feed a lot of people.

Gracias, Susanlynn. It's funny that even though he's self-conscious, he at least agreed to meet her, but Gata was telling Pablo the other day that she wouldn't go get a soda with him because people would be looking at her. I'm glad Virginia and Carlos have a little more confidence or devil-may-care attitude. This show needs all the bright spots it can get!

I cannot believe that Augie has sunk so low as to have those creeps kidnap Gata. Lorenza is a dreadful elitist, but Augie is now into criminal territory and ready to hurt Miss Kitty to keep her away from his little boy. Yikes

So what is Monica doing now that Pablo has fled the country ?

La Paloma--Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! A summary list will be just fine!!

Kat, it looks like my posting privileges went away once I was done with CI. I can go to the dashboard, but no links there.
Just let me know you want me to send it. Thanks.

Send it to 5ftLatina at gmail.com and I'll post it as soon as I see it. Thank you again!

Monica seems to have simply disappeared, no? I'm surprised they didn't plan for her to casually bump into Pablo in New York.

I know I'm late but I wanted to thank you 5ft for this excellent recap!
