TELEMUNDO Y MÁS — Reina de Corazones: week of September 15, 2014 PAGE TWO
I am going to post Mauricio's terrific recap here (with the break) so we don't lose track of it.
Jueves Part 1
Party Crashers
Navier crashes what was already a doomed to be miserable birthday bash. He has brought Reina a gift - not sure what it was exactly but looked to me like it was an expensive bracelet. Reina thanks him for the gift and puts it down.
"Darling look who it is" she tells Victor. She refers to Navier as cuñado [brother in law] and sarcastically thanks him for coming. "You'll have to tell me all about your European vacation" she tells him sarcastically. Sure thing! Why the three of them [Reina, Victor, & Navier] can have dinner together and he can tell them all about his vacation. Reina sarcastically says "that would be wonderful" and she excuses herself to go and greet the other guests. Victor sarcastically welcomes back his little bro.
JJ has crashed the birthday bash as well. JJ and Susana spot each other.
Perhaps A "Do Not Disturb" Sign Would Help?
Esmeeth chews out FELS telling him he has no right to manipulate Navier's life. "It is indispensible for him get married!" she tells him. FELS lets her know that he is the one who decides what is or isn't indespensible.
The chat then becomes shall we say intimate and definitely not professional like FELS claims to be.
FELS tells Esmeeth that she should be grateful that he's a professional [yeah right!] or else all their problems would be solved in bed.
Rocky interrupts with the news that Dr. Montoya is analyzing the corpse found at the zona de casinos [The Strip]. He realizes the tension in the room and asks if he was interrupting. Esmeeth storms out of the room. "You were interrupting" FELS tells Rocky. FELS is always being interrupted with Esmeeth. Especially by Rocky who seems to have the don [gift] of interrupting.
Our Only Happy Couple Of The Evening And Even They Had Their Issues
Laz and Greta have a romatinic night. It is their night. They deserve it after having fought for their love.
There are candles. There are flowers. There is dessert [No not that kind..at least not yet]. There is a toast to their love. There are smoochies.
Laz carries Greta to the bedroom. Greta would love to wrap her legs around him. She saw this in a movie [hmm..hopefully it wasn't one of Estefi's movies; no cards or letters please!]. Laz tells her she already has with her heart. He wants to take the initiative. He takes off his shirt. No bare chest is exposed. Instead we forced to look at what looks like a sweater vest [not sure why he's wearing that]. We do get a glimpse of his muscular arms though. I suppose that will have to do for now. Anyway, Greta tells him he could start with removing her shoes. More smoochies. Some are on the lips while there are others on the shoulder and the neck.
Greta tells Laz this is her first time. Laz takes a step back. He puts his shirt back on. She thought he'd be happy with the news. A feeling of responsibility has overwhelmed Laz. He's scared. It is because he loves her that he feels this way. She asks him what he is more afraid of - her virginity or her paralysis. He is scared of hurting her. He never loved anyone like he loves her. He apologizes but he can't do it. She asks him not to leave because she can't follow him. He leaves the room and heads back downstairs where we see him think.
Greta is left alone and thinks about making a phone call but doesn't make the call. Laz returns. He wants to make love. He wants to be her first and her last. More smoochies.
Is It Love Or Hate?
Reina and Asuncion enter the study. Reina is all out of breath. Her soul is leaving her body! She's trembling.
The diagnosis - Asuncion says it's love. Reina says it's hate.
From Conniving Bastard To Loving Dad
Victor asks Izzy to get the 411 on Navier. When did he return? Where was he? What was he doing? Where does he live? Izzy is on it. Victor tells Izzy that he doesn't want Navier to be near his daughter. "Understood" says Izzy.
Clara comes into the room. Izzy pretends to leave but stands behind the door and eavesdrops. Clara doesn't want to go to the birthday bash. Victor pretends to be a loving father and tells Clara she doesn't have to attend the party. He tells Clara that he'll do what he can to get her out of the boarding school. Of course they will have to talk it over with Reina first.
Was The Red Diamond Part Of His Diet?
Esmeeth enters forensics as Dr. Montoya analyzes a corpse. A sheet coveniently covers up the corpse's naughty parts [No cards or letters please!]. Esmeeth tells Dr. Montoya the now dead man was found near The Strip. He had been stabbed but was still alive. They took charge of the case because the man was supposed to tell them something about the diamonds but didn't make it alive. Dr. Montoya shows Esmeeth the red diamond found in the corpse's abdonimal cavity.
A Dragon Never Forgets. Never.
Estefi enters the study and finds Navier there. She's upset with him because he hadn't been answering her calls or emails in over a month. He tells her he's been busy! She thinks perhaps his new life as a millionaire has made him forget all about her. He didn't forget. He's not like Reina. She thinks he has forgotten about her. He says he didn't forget. He remembers everything. Especially who she is! Dun Dun Dun.
Dos Hombres Un Camino
Connie whines to JJ about her shoes. She's not used to wearing high heels.
Connie tells JJ that Susana hasn't stopped looking at him.
JJ notices Chirstian and Izzy have been looking at Connie. He tells Connie that there are two people looking at her. Christian approaches Connie. She asks him what is new and he says nothing much just some arrests and criminals. He tells Connie that all this time he has been thinking about her.
Susana bumps into JJ.
From Birthday Bash To Slapfest
Navier sits alone in the study and has drink. Reina enters. He comments on the beautiful birthday bash and she tells him it's a dream the kind only her hubby could arrange. He takes the monitoring device [a watch] off her arm and he deactivates it. He tells her that she was a prisioner. She tells him that she was and it is all thanks to him. She slaps him. He asks if she'll continue to hit him because if that makes her feel better... as a matter of fact it does make her feel better so she goes in for round two and slaps him again. [Ouch!] She tells him that she'd kill him if she could. He knows she can't because she hasn't forgotten his kisses or his caresses. She insults him and tells him he is heartless. She tells him that he wooed her and made her think of marriage and escaping together. She tells him that he took her heaven only to abandon her in hell. Navier says that hell is where has been for years. Victor enters and comments on the touching reunion he is witnessing. He wonders who the reunion is with. Javier Bolivar? Nicolas Nuñez? Navier says it's with Navier De Rosas. That's right bro! Navier now has the De Rosas name.
The Red Diamond And The Death Of The Man Must Be Linked...Duh FELS! Duh!
Dr. Montoya examines the red diamond under her microscope. Esmeeth wonders if the red diamond is the one from the exhibition. FELS enters. Dr. Montoya informs them that the red diamond is a fake. Esmeeth thinks perhaps the now dead man tried to sell the diamond and someone realized it was a fake. FELS says they made the man swallow the diamond and then tried to stab him to death but didn't make sure he was dead. FELS says that evidently the existence of the red diamond is linked to the man's death [duh!] Esmeeth says they know of two people interested in the diamonds - Estefi and Victor.
You Know Nothing
Victor tells Reina he doesn't like her going off with Navier. He thinks he'll be able to to find out what she was talking about with Navier by listening to the recording but surprise surprise she's not wearing the monitoring watch. He relizes that it was deactivated. She tells him she doesn't know what happened. He tells her that she knows nothing. Nothing. She didn't know anything about the red diamonds and now she doesn't know anything about the watch. He hopes that tonight she will know what a good wife has to do to make him happy. And he hopes she does it.
BFF Moment #1
Susana tells Estefi that she and JJ haven't spoken. Estefi comments on how handsome JJ is looking. "So much that it hurts" says Susana.
The Clara Situation
Navier asks Asuncion about Clara. Asuncion tells him Clara is back but something is not right because Clara doesn't love Reina. She tells Navier that this will hurt Reina. She excuses herself.
And When We Thought This Birthday Bash Couldn't Be Anymore Miserable.....Bam! We Have A Marriage Proposal
Navier approaches Estefi. She doesn't want to speak to him. She asks if he was with Reina. Did they kiss? Did he touch her? He asks her what he has to do so she can forgive him. She's not sure.
Navier knows what to do. He calls the attention of the other guests including Reina and Victor who have appeared on the scene.
He says some words about being far away for months and reuniting with his beloved family. A family that has welcomed him with open arms. Because as they all know he's Dead O's son. All this time he's been away has made him realize that he wants to be with his family. He says that there is a woman who he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Distance has made him love this woman more. A woman who is his place in the world because he wants to be where she is. He pulls out a ring and gets on his knees. He asks Estefi if she wants to marry him. Of course she accepts after saying some words about him being the man she's always dreamed of and him being the one who restored her will to live and yada yada. He puts the ring on her finger and kisses her hand. Reina deeply hurt by all of this calls for a round of applause.
It's My Party And I'll Scream If I Want To..Scream If I Want To..
The whole marriage proposal has deeply affected Reina. So much that when she enters the study she screams. She's raging mad. She hates Estefi and Navier! She would kill them if she had something to kill them with. Reina wonders why Navier wants to hurt her so much. Reina says she has to remain calm for Clara. Clara can't see her like this. Reina tells Connie that Clara hates her. She tells Connie that Victor made Clara believe that she had abandoned her. There are things that she hasn't told Connie because Victor had been monitoring her via the recording device on her arm but things will now change.
Asuncion interrupts. Time to cut the cake! Connie leaves.
Before Reina leaves to cut the cake, Asuncion wishes Reina peace and happiness on this special day. She hugs Reina and tells her that she wishes this from the bottom of her heart as if she were her mother.
BFF Moment #2
JJ doesn't get the marriage proposal. Navier had spent all these months thinking about Reina and hardly spoke to Estefi. JJ doesn't think Navier should get married but Navier says he has made up his mind. Susana interrupts the BFF moment and tells them that it's time to cut the cake. Navier leaves. JJ asks Susana if she was able to forget him. She says she hasn't but she knows that he was able to forget her.
Make three wishes and blow out the candles!
Victor says some words before Reina blows out her candles.
"Esta son las mañanitas..."
Reina’s birthday wishes are her daughter’s love. She blows out the candles.
Connie takes a selfie of she Reina. [Really Connie? This isn't necessairly a birthday party that Reina will want to remember]
Victor Wants His Birthday Present But Hey He's Not The Birthday Boy!
Victor is the mood for some lovemaking. But before he chats with Reina about what a nice birthday bash it was except for the that whole marriage proposal which was of poor taste [have to agree with that one. how rude of our Dragon to propose on someone else's day] He asks Reina what she's capable of doing in order to get the love of her daughter back. Oh Reina is willing to love and tell her daughter she loves her everyday and she's willing to have patience until her daughter forgives her. She says all this as she seductively removes her robe. She tells Victor that there is one power she has over him and she plans on using it. She tells him that she'll never ever sleep with him. He will never have her.
Murderers And Pervs
FELS startles a sleeping Esmeeth. He seems to enjoy this a lot. He tells her to be more careful. It could have been a murderer or a perv. "Here?" she asks him. "Murderers are everywhere" he tells her. "What about pervs?" she asks him. She then changes the subject and asks if there is anything new. He sends her home to go and rest so she can be refreshed for tomorrow when Dr. Montoya gives them her report. She tells him that Dr. Montoya is very efficient. He tells her that Dr. Montoya is efficient working but not much as a wife. Esmeeth tells him that they make a nice pair. "A nicer pair then we make?" he asks. She says of course especially because of the age differences. He tells her that there were no differences in bed. Has she forgotten? She tells him that she forgets things she didn't like fast. He thought she enjoyed it a lot.
Dr. Montoya shows up. She tells them she won't have the results until tomorrow. FELS says that is what he was telling Esmeeth. He leaves.
Dr. Montaya advises Esmeeth to be careful with FELS because he's not trasnparent or trustworthy or a good person.
When Will These People Learn To Lock Their Doors?
Estefi catches Greta and Laz in bed together the following morning. She isn't mad they slept together. All she wants is Greta's happiness. Greta is the happiest woman ever!
More FELS and Esmeeth
FELS comes into Esmeeth's office and asks where Rocky is. Esmeeth hasn't seen him since last night. FELS needs him to investigate something. FELS knows who makes the perfect diamond replicas. It's Old Nimoy! But he's dead. FELS needs to know who is running the antique shop now and to whom he has given the perfect replica of the red diamond. Esmeeth is on it. She is about to leave and he asks for goodbye kiss. She asks if Dr. Montoya discovered what she has told him. Yes, it was Dr. Montoya. Esmeeth tells FELS that Dr. Montoya must be intelligent because after all she divorced him. FELS tells Esmeeth that intelligent woman are his type and there are some who can't leave him no matter how hard they try. Esmeeth leaves. FELS smirks. [He seems to be enjoying this game he has with Esmeeth ALOT]
Navier Moves In
Victor tells Reina he's going out with Clara but Clara doesn't want to go out with Reina.
Navier arrives. He's moving in. He doesn't have to remind them that he owns the house too, does he? Victor welcomes him. Reina doesn't want Navier to move in. Navier tells them they are welcomed to move if they like. Victor says they aren't going nowhere. Reina will change her mind. Victor mentions that perhaps Reina doesn't want Navier to move in because she doesn't want anyone intruding on her newfound intimacy with Victor. Navier mentions that when he gets married he and Estefi will move in. Reina doesn't like this.
Flashback Moment
Estefi has the two red diamonds that once were in Reina's posession. She recalls how she snooped arround in Reina's room and came upon some document. Not sure exactly what that was. Anyway, her whole idea with finding a Reina look alike was so that the look alike could impersonate Reina and get the diamonds out of the security box at the bank. The look alike also knew how to forge Reina's signature.
Victor Shows His Little Bro His Room
Victor shows Navier to his room. He offers to give Navier the room he is using since after all he hardly sleeps there now that he spends more time in Reina's room. Navier is ok with this room. Victor leaves him to get settled in.
Rocky Knows It All
Navier receives a message from Rocky. Rocky knows who is behind the attacks on Reina and it's chilling. He's sure Navier has never heard such a thing.
Christian Wants A Second Chance
Christian visits Connie. He found her there because the bridal shop will open late due to the birthday bash last night. Christian wants Connie to give him a second chance. He knows he's made mistakes. He doesn't want for her to answer him now. He wants her to think about it. They kiss.
BFF Moment #3
Susana is at Camilee and leaves a voicemail for Estefi. She knows Estefi must be thrilled with her wedding preparations. She reminds Estefi that she has a friend. They could talk. She asks Estefi to call her.
Love Moment Well Sort Of
JJ shows up at Camilee. Susana says she was about to leave. She tells him that she is running Camilee now. He tells her that she's a real businesswoman now. She tells him that she found her place. It helps her not to think. He asks her if she thinks about him. She tells him that he left six months ago and she did what she could. She tells him that she tried to recover from her miscarriage. She tells him that when he left she was pregnant.
I'd Never Turn Down A 3D Movie
Clara is still mad at Reina and turns down going to see a 3D movie with Reina. She's off to see her friend. She tells Reina to go back to work.
Navier shows up. Dragona and Dragon are reunited. She knows he is her Tio Dragon and she was happy to hear that when Victor told her about it when he went to see her at the boarding school. Navier says he knows now why they cared about each other since they met.
Victor and Clara leave.
Reina asks Navier how he could be so cruel. Isn't it enough what he did? She asks him to look at her. She has lost everything. She doesn't even have the love of her daughter which is most important to her. She doesn't have his love either. She has nothing. What more does he want? He tells her that he wants a lot but they are condemned to never having anything ever again.
RIP Rocky
Reina finds Rocky's dead body at the bridal shop. His lips have been sewn shut.

Victor Wants His Birthday Present But Hey He's Not The Birthday Boy!
I just laughed out loud when Navier took the bracelet off Reina and deactivated it in about two seconds.
They didn't put the slap noise at the right place the first time Reina slapped Navier. It was a tiny bit late. Sloppy, sloppy.
As I mentioned before, I watched this episode online and I haven't seen the broadcast one but based on Mauricio's recap, it seems to have been the same except that the last scene in the online version was Navier telling Reina that neither of them was destined to be happy, not finding Rocky dead. That is a surprise. Coincidence that FELS yelled at Rocky right before?
Thanks Jean for the second page. I do think we will need it. I saw this episode online to get a head start on the recap and it was same except as you mentioned the last scene was Navier speaking with Reina and not Reina finding Rocky.
I checked the beginning of the next episode online and the first scene is of Reina finding Rocky. I suppose Telemundo figured that Reina finding Rocky would be a better cliffhanger than Navier talking to Reina.
Boy were they right. That was some cliffhanger! I was shocked. Was not expecting that at all.
I'm very nervous for Laz and Greta. I can't think of any novela where a couple's bliss lasts so far from the end of the novela.
Mauricio, I agree that the Dragon was rude--extraordinarily so--to propose at Reina's birthday party. [I pause here to try to regain my composure.]
OK, composure regained. The one other composure-shattering moment for me in last night's episode was, of course, Rocky's emergence at the end. Wow!
One question: since Victor knows that Javier is Nicolas Nuñez, and he knows that Reina was pregnant before he (Victor) met her, does he know that Clara is Javier's daughter? So when Victor tells Izzy that he doesn't want Javier to be near his daughter, does Victor's "his" refer to Victor or Javier? And how much of all this does Izzy know? [Guess that was more than one question....]
"..Clara, In life you have to be strong. The weak end up badly. I know what I'm talking about. You have to know that you're not my daughter. You're the child of your mother with another man. The name of your real father is Nicolas Núñez. Victor slips the notes in envelopes."
Victor actually detests Clara for everything she stands for, but he tolerates her because it keeps Reina close. We must ASSUME Izzy knows.
Mauricio--A lot of scenery got chewed last night, and you spit it out and put it all back together for us. Marvelous recap.
For a fairly depressing episode, we were treated to a lot of very smart dialog & repartee. I think the original writers are back from their break.
Mauricio--Javier De Rosas owns HALF the house. Remember early days when Big O showed up and insisted on his right to live there because Victor had never bought him out (nor did he probably want him to).
Since Javier used to live there, why didn't Victor offer him his first room back--sort of as a here is your old room in the servant's wing--just to needle Javier some more. It would have been a nice touch for the Dragon to refuse. Anyway, I don't really like his new suite. Too much dark furniture. But it's probably closer to Reina's.
The most touching, happy scene was the reunion of Javier and Clara. Reina watched intensly. So, La llamada de la sangre was just between an uncle and niece. Oh, if he only knew.
Got some great lines for the Wisdom column, but the removal of the QVC BraceletSpyingDevice-2000 and deactivating it was over the top.
Shoot, now I have to add another main character to the Body Count. Rocky was one I kind of came to expect to be around to be Smeeth's sounding board. She has no one left to strategize and swap office gossip with. Somehow I don't think she and the Lady Doctor, EX are going to become best buds.

ah yes, Friday morning with Mauricio,
love your recaps,
thank you so much!
"It's My Party And I'll Scream If I Want To..",
could have been the title of this episode,
Reina has truly lost everything, (and why is Javier still snipping at her),
but she's not lying down just yet.
Javier grew up in boarding schools, I think it's where most of his hatred comes from, maybe he will bond even more with Clara.
hmm, Rocky's demise was not something in-the-style of Isidro or Lopez 2, this is like an entirely different thing, (did any of Javier's European friends follow him home, nah), but why in the bridal shop, did Reina work her way into the "organization" to uncover the proof she had against Victor and dead 'O', and where is that proof,
and yes as Jackie (could she be a plant) says, "Supremo is not transparent or trustworthy or a good person".
Many thanks to NovelaMaven and Mauricio. I haven't seen the last two days, but the recaps have been lifesavers!
That was simply outstanding! And what an episode it was! [Hey, I'd never turn down a 3D movie either.]
Thanks to you and Jean for checking to see if the Mexican episode was the same. You're right, Mauricio -- talk about cliffhangers!
I was completely stunned by the last scene. In fact, I was so upset by Rocky's fate that I had to talk myself down from the ledge and into one of the Bunkers of Ironic Detachment that I built for Robó but didn't think I'd need for Reina. I mean Rocky -- the father figure, NN's mentor, the guy who was such a good guy that we wondered if he really WAS a good guy after all. Ok, I have to move into Agatha Christie mode -- think "And Then There were None." It's JUST A STORY. It's just a story It's just a story It's just a story...
So let's see--
Who do we know that is used to suturing dead bodies?
Or maybe it's not so different from sewing fabric? Then again, it wouldn't be so hard for someone 'superdotado' to learn...
Or for someone who likes to add a little dramatic flair to every murder...
Anita:
"The most touching, happy scene was the reunion of Javier and Clara."
Really? I thought it was gut-wrenching. Reina has to watch as the daughter who steadfastly rejects her runs to the man she believes has betrayed her; and meanwhile her tormentor Victor watches and smirks. Just horrible.
"It's my party and I'll scream if I want to." Yup.
I missed the first half of the episode, so I wondered how Reina got the bracelet off. And Victor just shrugged it off when he realized? OK. Can't believe Nav just sprung it off her wrist in a few seconds. In all these months, the CIA couldn't sneak someone in to see her who could do that?
The scene that had me shaking my head, however, was Asuncion hugging Reina and wishing her a happy birthday, like she hasn't been living in the same house with her, seeing her daughter be Vic's prisoner. She just seems WAY too passive and placid and accepting of this crazy situation to be Reina's mom. Shouldn't she have gone to the authorities on her own to try whatever she could to free her daughter?!
We didn't get the full length Bailando "entrada" last night. Most likely that was cut to allow T'mundo time to show Reina finding Rocky. AND I CAN NOT GET THAT FACE OUT OF MY MIND TODAY. Aaaaack!
deb-, Navier didn't grow up in boarding schools. He grew up in wretched orphanages, hence his hatred toward his birth mother, Esmeeth.
Mauricio – You got a doozy of an episode! Thanks for the recap and section titles. (My fav is “It's My Party And I'll Scream If I Want To..Scream If I Want To..”)
I knew SOMETHING was going to happen at the bridal shop because the camera lingered too long on Reina hanging up those wedding dresses, but I did not see that one coming. ** Aaaaaack! I had cara de impactada.
I really, truly, seriously do not trust FELS. Especially after that.
So, Navier can easily remove the QVC BraceletSpyingDevice-2000 and deactivate it in less than a second. The abilities of a Dragon never cease to amaze me.
Calling Dr. Oz . . . Is there a doctor in the house? Medical Moment questions...
Inquiring minds want to know---
1.) Greata is still a paraplegic. Do we assume she has no feeling in her legs? Other parts below-the-waist? Is she capable of feeling anything while doing the mattress dance with Laz? I’m bumfuzzled by this.
2.) Shouldn’t the fake red diamond guy have choked to death on that big honkin’ red diamond? How did he live that long AND talk? People choke to death on much smaller things.
** as your resident sewing forista, I had to admire the evenly spaced, consistent length of the stitching across Rocky's mouth.
I don't think it much matters to Greata whether she feels much or anything below the waist under these circumstances. She's with the love of her life, he's being gentle and loving with her and she spent the night with him. She may miss a certain sublime feeling, but that may come in time. Or--she will tell us later if she did or didn't (she sure did look happy, though).
Remember Rogelio? He suffered the same type of paralysis in his legs, but he was able to perform perfectly adequately for Ana Paula.
Also, cambiando de tema, thanks for mentioning Rojelio's ability to perform in spite of paralysis similar to Greta's. (Am I right in remembering that Rojelio continued to be in his wheelchair even at the end of the novela? I suspect/hope that Greta will make a full recovery.)
Rocky, we hardly knew ye. I was sooo shocked like the rest of you over his death, and it was so spooky the way they did it too! Talk about having nightmares. I was always hoping that they would flesh out his character, and I wonder if we'll find out more about him now that's he's dead.
Since Rocky had found out everything about Reina's attacks & he called it "chilling", I hope the writers give us a really good explanation/storyline behind that, and that it doesn't disappoint.
And I agree about the tackiness of proposing at someone's birthday party. Did anyone notice how they had Reina & Estefy kind of side by side when Javier was proposing?? Since Javier (if unintentionally) has been messing with both of them, they looked kind of unsure of who he was referring to in his proposing speech. Looked like they were in some warped type of pageant, uncomfortably waiting to see who the winner was. Or at least that was my take on it.
The scene that had me shaking my head, however, was Asuncion hugging Reina and wishing her a happy birthday, like she hasn't been living in the same house with her, seeing her daughter be Vic's prisoner. I thought the same thing! When she came in there, happy, telling Reina it was time to cut the cake, I was thinking "We're dealing with issues bigger than cake here lady!".
My fav part in the episode was when Reina greeted Javier so aloofly, set aside his shiny expensive present, and said she had to go greet her guests. I wanted to give her a high-five! Plus, enjoy hearing how Javier & Vic taunt either. They do that so well.
jlk
There were a few gems from same recap that I would like to mention.
Greta would love to wrap her legs around him. She saw this in a movie [hmm..hopefully it wasn't one of Estefi's movies;
and
Connie takes a selfie of she Reina. [Really Connie? This isn't necessairly a birthday party that Reina will want to remember]
You weren't sure what document it was that Estefi found in Reina's room. I'm pretty sure it was her id that the fake Reina could use at the bank.
Navier's marriage proposal to Estefi was even more disturbing because Reina and Estefi were standing right next to each other and it was not clear which one of them Navier was addressing. Obviously, Reina is already married but still. It makes you wonder if Navier really believes that Reina didn't leave him for Victor 8 years ago.
If I have to listen to FELS start a work-related conversation with Esmeeth and then start making sexual innuendo, I'm going to scream. I can't stand him - I especially can't stand him when he smiles.
I forgot to mention that Rocky's death is another blow to Reina. He had been her protector. She trusted him and now he's gone and she's even more alone.
Juanita, yep Rogelio stayed in the wheelchair till the end of the novela.
jlk
"Looked like they were in some warped type of pageant, uncomfortably waiting to see who the winner was."
Perfect.
FELS seems to be concentrating on Victor and Reina when he knows perfectly well Stefi is in the mix up to her pretty fuschia red lips. Why? Maybe so viewerville won't have to go through the Eeewwww, incest thing. The age is right--younger than Stefi, Smeeth and Victor.
The recap for tonight’s episode will be up late. I have to watch it live and then get busy writing. Meanwhile, I leave you faithful readers with something to ponder:
Rocky’s last words to Javier—”Navier receives a message from Rocky. Rocky knows who is behind the attacks on Reina and it's chilling. He's sure Navier has never heard such a thing.”
Now, whom do we know in the remaining, living arsenal of villains who would do such a thing to Rocky, in such a despicable manner? And, done in a way to freak out Reina, La Costurera (as the synopsis blurb continues to call her).
Victor?* Stefi? Frank Marino? (I’m not discounting him at all, being maybe dead or maybe alive.) Someone not quite unexpected, FELS? Someone new, La Doctora Montoya-The EX? (Who is she anyway?)
Speculation around the Patio will abound. NovelaMaven, please come up from the Bunker of Ironic Detachment into the Blazing Light of shiny Red Diamonds. There is no irony that can’t be dispelled (or mustered) with proper liquid libations. Salud!
*If it points to Victor, it’s very clever—is he gaslighting Reina?
WOW!! It begins with sealed lips we want to turn away from and ends with a KISS we want to last longer than two seconds.
Now I'm not so sure it is FELS. I did not like the look between Victor & Izzy, nor that slight smile on Izzy's face right after. It wouldn't be a surprise if Victor had Izzy take sewing lessons, since Victor committed patricide or ISBIS "padrecide."
Then we still have Reina's MIA "special" father, who might be behind Asuncion's abandonment of Reina. Who and where is he?
The new CSI ex might be a red herring, courtesy of the writers who are gas-lighting us viewers.
How about FELS telling Reina she went to the bank ALONE to take the diamonds from the safe deposit box? He KNOWS it was Reina because he has the security camera footage and her signature. If she denies it, she's LOCA or she's a liar!
But we know it was the Reina-Lookalike. How can genius boy not recognize an impostor or forged signature?
Doris:
"I did not like the look between Victor & Izzy, nor that slight smile on Izzy's face right after."
Oh yeah, I noticed that too.
Anita, have no fear. I can stir the Crockpot right in the Bunker! Looking forward to your spinning of the tale tonight.
Das wunderkind really isn't all that. He has screwed up before.
This much I can conjecture--Wasn't Reina being held a prisoner in her house with her little seeing-eye QVC bracelet while Missy Look-Alike went to the bank. It would be easy enough to verify, if Reina can remember that. Unless, of course the gadget loses its memory when deactivated. Maybe Victor threw it away?
Coffee's ready. See you later.
Don't you think it's too obvious for Victor to be behind the sewing murders? The writers are leading us to believe that, so I don't think that is the truth. Personally, I think FELS is pulling the strings (so to speak). Have nothing to prove it yet, but he seems the most likely "villain". He's just as controlling as Victor, and I think it's his trap. I just don't know what his end game is.
Vivi - about Asuncion and her mysterious behavior. This novela has several mother's whose behavior is a puzzle. Smith, after concealing her parentage for years and even outright lying to Javiar when he asked if she was his mother, somehow expected him to be the loving son when he returned from Europe. Maybe she thought that absence would make the heart grow fonder, but it looks like Javier is not going to make it that easy for her ( though I do think they will reconcile in the end )
As for Asuncion, not only did she not help her daughter during the six months that she was virtually imprisoned, she apparently did not help her much in the eight years preceding that. She told Reina that her life was a living hell when she lived
with Victor, but apparently did little to change that.

Asuncion will turn out to be the Queen of Clubs.

(Here’s the straight story, gleaned from the headlines of the Las Vegas Tiempo en Español. Some scenes have been combined for clarity and my sanity. Editorial comments are indicated by parens.)
*At an Old Antiquarian’s Shoppe*
The investigation of the source of a well-made, but fake Red Diamond leads CIA Agent Smeeth, in a tight-fitting business-casual white tailored shirt, to the shop, formerly belonging to Old Nimoy, the dead Maestro who was Victor’s stand-in for a dad. The heir is a distant relative of ON. He’s trying to make sense of all this junk and is in haste to get rid of the whole enterprise. She pulls out the Red Diamond and asks who he sold it too. He seems evasive. (Actually, a little mousy-timid and scared, afraid she’s there to ask about Old Nimoy’s murder.) The ever-efficient and direct Agent Smeeth pulls her gun on him. He quickly coughs up the name, Victor De Rosas.
Smeeth wastes no time going directly to the De Rosas’ mansion only to be told he was not presently at home. She’ll wait. Asuncion looks around furtively and lets loose on Smeeth regarding Reina’s hellish last six months. It’s been horrible how that monster has treated her. He’s turned Clara against her and Asuncion feels powerless. (Excuse me, but you never had an opportunity to go to the Safeway store, CVS, JoAnn’s Fabrics and drop a quarter on the police? You were not wearing a QVC BraceletSpyingDevice-2000™.) She continues, Reina is at the end of her rope (figuratively only). Asuncion can’t even tell Clarita she is her grandmother, but Smeeth probably doesn’t know what that is like. Smeeth looks at her, yes, better that can be imagined. Now, she has a question for Asuncion. They’ve known for some time that she is Reina’s mother. Why did Asuncion abandon her? Asuncion replies that she will never, never tell.
*At CIA Headquarters*
Fernando San Juan or El Supremo or Patricio, or Juarever is giving orders out at the front desk regarding Rocky Balboa’s whereabouts. Javier (He has chosen to go by this name, now.) bursts in wanting to know the same thing. He shares the last information he got from Balboa—that he learned the name of the person trying to finish off Reina. (Why does Mr. Furrowed Brow look guilty immediately on hearing this?)
Later, in the multi-media room, Javier is giving FELS (This is easier to type.) the name and address of Reina’s boutique. He suggests they call. Then a call comes in. FELS takes it. He tells Javier Rocky is at the boutique—DEAD. Javier wants to go with him to the crime scene; Rocky was his friend, colleague and one of the few people he trusted—and whoever killed him will regret it, he swears.
*At the Crime Scene*
(By good fortune, Telemundo has a security camera running inside the boutique, so all the activities before the police arrive have been recorded.) Connie arrives for work and finds Reina absolutely revolted and cowering, and sees the body of a man, who apparently fell out from behind a rack of gowns where he’d been propped up. His eyes are open in a death stare and his mouth has been sewn shut. Connie jumps to the conclusion Reina will be blamed since she is a seamstress (duh?).
Stefi appears and sees the two horrified women and then sees the body.
Connie has called Cristian on his cell. He thinks it is a social call and is pleased to hear from her so soon. Wait, he can’t understand what she’s talking about and asks her to please slow down (as do we). The women back at the boutique know they shouldn’t touch anything. Stefi noted the door had been forced. Reina, upset now, says she didn’t notice since she always uses her key. Stefi explains that she came, yes, early, to choose a design for her wedding gown—for her wedding to Javier.
Cristian and the police arrive. He looks down at the body. His look says it all—unbelievable. Reina tells him everything in the shop seemed normal when he asks. She’s puzzled as to how he could have been killed inside the shop. He wasn’t, answers Cris. It happened somewhere else and the body brought here—as a present.
Next, FELS and Montoya arrive. FELS introduces himself to Cristian as Patricio Picasso (I still have to laugh at his surname.) He’s all business and wants Montoya to get on with the CSI part of the job. Stefi calls him on the name he gave Cristian. She thought he was Fernando San Juan. (His answer was lost on me, sorry, but he scowls perfectly at her and dismisses any further remarks concerning his name.)
Javier, lagging behind the forensic team, appears. Stefi is quick to hug him with a “Mi Amor,” while Reina looks on from across the room. He leaves Stefi and comes over to Reina who is wondering why such cruelty. Javier tells her about Rocky’s last message. He was probably killed to keep him from talking. Reina is afraid the assassin will be coming for her next. FELS takes charge. That is all merely conjecture. Everyone will have to come downtown to give a statement. Montoya approaches and lets FELS know this is the strangest case she’s ever seen—nothing to indicate how he died. Autopsy to follow.
Stefi wants to know how Javier found out, how did he know this guy. Javier tells her he knew him well. This was the person who took care of Reina back while she was being threatened. Stefi cringes thinking about what they did to that poor man. Now, Javier realizes Stefi is in a bridal shop and asks what she was doing there. Getting a bridal gown.
Montoya must be finished. Rocky’s body is being removed from the scene. FELS wants to talk to Reina. Connie springs to her defense, thinking she’s being accused of the murder just because she is a seamstress and the person’s mouth was sewn shut—and very badly, too. FELS looks down at her and tells her that it’s routine. They need everyone’s statements to see if there are any details that could help the investigation.
Stefi says it looks like today is not the day to pick out a wedding dress design. Reina says flatly, she can pick some other shop. It isn’t happening in her boutique. Stefi and Javier leave.
Oh, says Reina, now alone with FELS. Now he remembers about her, after six months! Nope, wasn’t his job to watch over her. They leave together, presumably to headquarters.
Cristian comes back for Connie and they leave together.
*In a Forgotten Corner of a Cemetery*
Victor is standing in front of a little mound of grass. This is all that is left of Big O after the Big Send-off. (Victor hates him so much he won’t spring for a measly $5,000 headstone.) He’s talking to the grass, all casual, hands in pockets. “Surprised to see me here, dad?” (Actually he says Maldito Viejo.) He complains of the magnitude of the surprise he was left by BDO. He has a brother, not a penny of an inheritance, and will have to tolerate the little blond bastard for the rest of his life. (He didn’t say little blond bastard and he’s referring to Javier’s life.) And Vic got nothing, absolutely nothing, not even what he wants most in life, which is to kill the LBB. Doesn’t matter, he, Victor, is alive and all the time in the world to find a way and enjoy every minute—as he did during the last minutes of his dad’s life.
Flashback—
Victor is with Big O in the death suite of a swanky Las Vegas hotel. Big O taunts him. Vic is a worm and wishes he’d never been born. Vic sneers. “Dad,” he says, “you were a great teacher of enmity (desamor), alienation (desapego) and irony.” Finally, Vic has had enough and shoves him down on the bed. His parting words are, “But at times the student surpasses the teacher – BANG. End of flashback.
The irony here is now BDO is food for the worms and probably gagging on his nastiness. RIP, Dad—NOT.
*In the White House of Diamonds*
Victor has left the cemetery to visit Greta at Stefi’s place. He’s grilling her on her absence from Reina’s birthday bash. Well, for one thing, Greta didn’t like the fact that there she was, celebrating her birthday and didn’t care one whit about her daughter. Vic wants her to return to his house. He misses her (insincerely). Greta says to him he doesn’t realize he lost her a long time ago. She calls Lazaro to her side. (He’s out of his scrubs and looks pretty decent today after he lost that lumberjack plaid number he wore for his romantic nookie night.)
Greta calls Laz “Mi Amor” and asks him to make Vic leave. Vic says no Mr. Nobody tells me to leave. Greta stands (sorry about this) up for her lover and shoots the word right back at her dad. He’s no Mr. Nobody. He’s my intended and not only that, we’re getting married. (So there, papi.) Vic is flummoxed.
Later, Greta is up in her bed being check out by a doc with a regulation black doctor bag. Laz thanks him for coming. (We heard he is a therapist, QTH? He looked more like an old country doctor doing housecalls.) When they are alone, Laz wants to know if the part about them getting married was just to bug Victor. He recognizes that he is a Don Nadie. Greta says he’s certainly not a Don Nadie. The best thing that could be, she continues, is to be married to him. He is the love of her life. Laz jumps on the bed—it’s a nice dream, a good project. Greta wants to know if he would marry someone like her. There’s no one he would marry, except Greta. They smile at each other and he plants a big one her lips and then another one. (Cute couple.)
*In Camille’s Skimpy Underwear Poster Plastered Office*
Juanjo and Susana discuss her pregnancy, whereof he knew nothing. He wants to know all the hows, whens and why didn’t she tell him. Susana, conveniently not remembering how it all really went down before he got on the plane with Javier, blames him 100% for abandoning her to her own devices, never calling, sure she would never see his face again. Since it was just a little sexual adventure for him, why bother. End of Story. Wait a minute, an incredulous Juanjo protests, is that what she thought *it* was? He now wants to know if she lost the baby or had an abortion.
No! Susana is furious with him for thinking that. No, she didn’t terminate the pregnancy. This ends here. Wait a minute, Juanjo isn’t finished. Was she afraid of what people would think? Was she ashamed of having a baby with him? He wants to know how she felt, was she happy? Not happy? Susana tells him she was frightened because she was alone and he had left her. Alone with her pain and disillusionment. Well, thinking back on it now, Susana admits to being glad after she saw the result of the pregnancy test because she had never been able to carry a baby to term. She lost an earlier pregnancy. She’ll never forgive him for suspecting a termination. She throws Juanjo out and sits down and cries.
Flashback—
Susana is standing with a very young Greta. Victor is taunting Greta that she is not allowed to commit suicide for love like her sister did. His decision is final. (I think this is when Vic decided to send Greta away to boarding school, away from her family.) Then he turns his taunts toward Susana while they are in his study. What, she wants to raise Greta? She can’t even take care of a dog. Shut up and accept the decision, he rants. Susana wants to know what if she doesn’t? Vic will tell Greta Susana isn’t her mother and she’ll hate Susana for ever. It’s her decision. Vic swigs on his silver flask, waiting for her answer. (We know what it was.)
*In the De Rosas’ House of Rapunzel*
Victor is back from his chat with Dad and trying to get Greta to come home. (For what dastardly reason is beyond me. Yes, all he’s missing is a black mustache to twirl. Thanks for the image, Reinamaniac.) Smeeth is still there waiting for him. He chuckles it is surely bad news she brings. Smeeth pulls out a baggie with a big Red Diamond in it. Does he recognize it? Well, yes, of course he can see what it is. An imitation, she says, a good one. It’s a shame it’s a fake. Smeeth tells him where it was found. He thinks that’s awful, especially with so many delicatessen’s abounding, to eat a little stone? Uh-uh, Smeeth throws at him that he bought it and killed the man.
Victor takes Smeeth into the study and pulls out another Red Diamond from a velvet bag. He tells her he got it at the selfsame shoppe she claims hers came from. Smeeth gets an interrupting call and Vic hears her say, “where is the body?”
She tells Vic he’s not going to get away with this and flounces out. (As only Smeeth can flounce without a flouncy dress on.) Victor looks after her with a smuggy smirk, pleased to have put one over on her. He’s even more pleased when Izzy comes in and muses to him that Smeeth must have received some bad news. They exchange looks of a couple of co-conspirators.
*In Stefi’s Lebensraum*
Laz can’t believe he’s seeing Juanjo in the flesh. Big bro hug. Yes, Laz knew about Susana’s pregnancy and the brouhaha over the test stick Greta found. Juanjo thinks Laz should have contacted him and told him everything.
Laz has brought Greta down and they are conversing with Juanjo. He’s telling them all about Javier’s marriage proposal at the party last night. (Doorbell rings. Maid answers. Susana enters.) She’s startled to see Juanjo there. He immediately excuses himself to find a bathroom.
*In the Casino of Iniquity*
Javier comes to talk to Stefi, privately, not to be disturbed by all the racket going on, on the main floor of the casino. She scolds him for the little contact they had while he was gadding about Europe. Javier looks at her and wants to know what she really knows. She answers coyly that maybe everything he was up to in Europe, legal and illegal. Then here he is and slam, bang, a proposal, thank you, ma’am. Why? Javier, never at a loss for words, tells her gently that he querers her, is grateful, wants the stability in his life he’s never had, to be a couple. She looks at him and straight out tells him she should say NO. She doesn’t want to play second fiddle in used sheets, but does she want to be married to him? Hell, yes! When? Javier tells her the sooner the better and kisses her. Then he leaves to give his statement to the authorities.
*In LVPD Headquarters*
Motor-mouth Connie is running on high-test. Cristian seems not to be able to follow her. He finally tells her to stop. All she has to say is that she didn’t see anything unusual. He has other things on his mind, but is interrupted by Victor and Izzy who came as soon as they got his call. Does he know anything of Reina? We don’t hear an answer.
*In FELS/Smeeth’s Office at CIA Headquarters*
Reina is giving her statement to FELS. He’s not in a jolly mood. Reina saw nothing, heard nothing. This was her first days back at work, after having been shut up, confined, forcibly sequestered for the last six months. FELS reminds her she did go out to the bank. Yes, she recalls, once, with Victor. Contrary to CIA instructions, she had offered Victor the two Red Diamonds in exchange for Clara’s and her freedom, but when they opened the safety deposit box, it was empty.
FELS says she’s not being truthful. She also went alone. Did not, Did, too, Did not, Did too. He finally breaks the tit for tat with a Don’t Lie, he has proof, a video showing Reina there by herself removing the Red Diamonds. No, no, no, can’t be true. Yes, yes, yes fires off FELS. You are either a Big Liar or you are Loca. (And not in the Bailando sense of the word.)
*In the Forensic Lab*
Dr. Montoya has to tell Javier and Smeeth that Rocky was still alive when they sewed his mouth shut. They grimace. She says they used a special kind of thread. Javier is despondent. He feels responsible. If he had done something as soon as he received Rocky’s message, he might still be alive. Someday, he’ll find the miserable S.O.B. Montoya tells them he was asphyxiated but showed no signs of resistance. She hands Javier something they found in his pocket—the Antiquarian Shoppe’s calling card. Smeeth fills him in on the connection between the earlier dead man with the Red Diamond in his stomach and the shoppe. Javier gives Rocky a last tender goodbye kiss on his forehead, covers him up and leaves with Smeeth.
*In the Little Shoppe of Horrors*
Javier and Smeeth go rogue and head for Old Nimoy’s shop without informing headquarters or getting a warrant. (Naughty, naughty) They arrive to find Mr. Meek ‘n Mousy stabbed to death and his mouth sewn shut, too. Javier finds a torn photo on his body. He recognizes Reina right away, at a birthday party with some other girls. While Smeeth calls for body disposal, Javier kneels down by the body. There must be an answer to all this. He wants to understand the reasons. The photo, maybe, in the part that’s missing has an answer.
*Home Sweet Home*
Victor is sitting with Clara doing something on her tablet. Reina returns very animated. Clara on the other hand, is put-out. Reina forgot to come and get her. Vic tsk, tsks Reina for forgetting, he had to go. Now Clara doesn’t want to be with her at all and stomps off upstairs. Vic the Smug tells Reina how easy it is to manipulate a child. Reina digs her heels in, she’s not going to give up. Vic chuckles his mustache twirling chuckle as he says he can go right to a judge and recount all her problems and furthermore, that a dead man showed up in her bridal boutique with his mouth sewn shut. (I really want to be able to stop writing those last three words.)
Reina looks at him in disbelief, “You, it was you who killed him? You sewed his mouth closed?” Vic turns on the innocence spigot, “What an imagination, Reina. I don’t know how to knit or sew. Mama never taught me.” “By the way, where is little brother?” “Why would I know,” Reina replies. Well, Vic thought they were going to have a family dinner, the foursome. Ah, maybe he’s having trouble leaving Stefi’s bed. Ah, that Stefi, he knew her well. Actually, he knows both of them very well.
If looks could kill they’d both be dead. Instead they verbalize their feelings.
*Behind the Locked Door* or *Midnight at the Oasis (aka CIA Headquarters)*
Smeeth storm into her (old?) office, followed by Stormin Normin. He’s furious over her little caper with Bolívar. He gives the orders around here. He’s the BOSS. This goes on until Smeeth utters the fateful words, “What would you care if I showed up dead?” Smeeth turns away from him while Boss man wheels, goes to the office door and LOCKS it. He comes back to where Smeeth is standing and grabs her arm and gets in her face. “Don’t you realize I’m all turned upside down (trastornado) over you, vexed by you, crazy (enloquezido) about you?” He attacks her with a kiss. Smeeth doesn’t know how to react for one hot NY second. She doesn’t push him away, she doesn’t slap, bite or kick him. She puts her hand on his arm and kisses him back. (Not a good move on either of their parts, but where, or where is this going?)
*The Doll House*
Stefi shows Greta the roomful of dolls and retells the story of witnessing her parents’ murders. Greta listens with compassion. It’s a magic place. They talk about love. Stefi says some loves destroy, like the love she had for Greta’s father.
*The Anti-Doll House*
Reina is trying to was all the stress that she underwent that day in her bubble-filled jacuzzi tub. She closes her eyes and a hand grabs her by the throat and pushes her under. She imagines she’s drowning. Fortunately, she was just imagining. But…someone has sneaked into her watery retreat. It’s the Soy Yo kid. She’s frightened and furious at the same time. What does he want? Did he come to kill her? Javier turns enigmatic again. He’s brought the photograph with him and shows it to her. What is he doing with this? Where did he get it? Before he can get any answers, he hears someone coming into the bedroom. Victor calls out for Reina. Before she can say a word, Javier pulls Reina into a long, long kiss. (See Tue Jul 15 for the Stairwell Kiss and decide whether this one is for love or survival.)
I especially liked,
Victor turns on his innocence spigot
I was surprised that they didn't have a headstone for Victor to talk to at the cemetery. It's been 6 months. If the lack of a stone was to indicate Victor's hatred for his Dad, I would have expected him to say so.
I'm going to have to go back and rewatch the online version. I don't remember the scene with a young Greta in this episode. Susana carried the rapist's baby to term. What irony, I guess.
”Wasn't Reina being held a prisoner in her house with her little seeing-eye QVC bracelet while Missy Look-Alike went to the bank.”
Yes, and Victor should know that. The diamonds were taken before Javier removed the bracelet. But he will take advantage of yet another opportunity to gas-light her.
Right where the photo is torn, there appears to be someone’s shoulder standing behind the kids; an adult, taller than the kids. That could have been her father.
Crockpot Theory alert --- Because the old photo of Reina was found at Nimoy’s shop, on his son’s cadaver, could old Nimoy have been Reina’s father?
Reina continues to wear Nicolas’/Javier’s cross around her neck. If she truly hated him, she’d have tossed that thing ages ago.
For all of Victor’s evil-doing crimes, we have to give him credit that he has not achieved his “marital rights” by raping Reina. He knows the telenovela rules.
There is no doubt that Telemundo auditions for “Connie” hinged on which actress could talk the fastest.
Jean – I noticed the lack of headstone, but chalked it up to the camera angle. If the camera were behind the headstone, it would not have come into range. We only saw 3 – 4 ft out from Vic’s feet, of the grave top. Sometimes it takes six months, or more, to get the carved headstone.
FELS' questioning/accusing Reina in his office seemed really strange to me. It's hard to believe that he didn't realize that the person who visited the bank by herself was a look-alike and that the signature she made was a forgery. That plus his somewhat bizarre (well, inappropriate) behavior with Esmeeth makes me very suspicious. I think his ex-wife was telling the truth when she warned Esmeeth that he was not trustworthy. Indeed, I think Miguel may be right when he said in an earlier comment "Personally, I think FELS is pulling the strings (so to speak)."
Hmmm...as for the absence of the headstone, I simply assumed that it indicated Victor's contempt for his father and his unwillingness to spend even a relatively small amount on him. But then I went into Crockpot Theory™ mode: perhaps the De Rosas are Jewish. In Jewish tradition, a year goes by before the headstone is "unveiled" in a ceremony. No, I don't believe this Crockpot Theory™, but with this telenovela I've learned that no theory is too crazy.
I made up the part about his not getting a headstone only because I didn't see one and he's incredibly rich. It seems there should have been a temporary marker, though. My parents' grave did.
Juanita--if they were Jewish, it would have been several generations back, maybe Marranos from Spain*. It was definitely a Padre who was trying to officiate the ceremony for Big O.
*Check out Wikipedia for some interesting background on the origin of the word.
Doris--Mr. Meek and Mousy wasn't his son--he was a distant nephew. But the rest of your Crockpot Theory™ holds.
Even so, it's a stretch. Victor hates Reina, loved the Maestro. He loves to torture Reina psychologically and manipulate her for his own personal pleasure. He's a perverted SOB (remember all his sex tapes?).
Bear with me, I'm getting to the point. He's done this with the other liaisons we met (Susana & OBD, though it probably wouldn't have worked with Stefi).
Victor knew the Maestro for a long time. Long enough to have been around for any relationship Old Nimoy might have had with Asuncion that produced Reina.
OTOH (lightbulb moment) maybe that is why Asuncion ended up in the household. Victor does tend to ignore her.
Shoot, another Crockpot Theory™ rises to the surface.
On the Fernando/Smith HR headache relationship, I do think he has real feelings towards her, but I'm also at lost on where that couple is headed. As much as I want to like him (curse his handsome face!), he can be such a cold unfeeling robot plus he has so many question marks around him. A few episodes ago while having a conversation with Smith he said something like "I don't trust anyone-not even myself". WTH does that mean?!
Last night Susanna really annoyed me with the way she made it seem like JuanJo just wanted to sleep with her before taking off & moving on. Also the way she was so defensive about the whole thing, acting like she was the victim, when JuanJo didn't even know about the pregnancy. I understand she's had a very hard life (when I went through all she has been through, it's quite depressing), but her air of sadness she carries is IMHO getting annoying. Of course, I also know she can't be happy happy, joy joy with JuanJo quite yet, but still ughhh.....I know she's not a real person, but can't feel bit bad for hating on her haha. The actress who plays her does a wonderful job of conveying her tragedy, but I hope she gets a steel center by the end of the tn.
Also, Vic does such a good job in his evilness, my fav line was when he was like "Me? But I don't even know how to sew"
jlk
Whatevs, could this be a clue to the killer? BUT ... we haven't seen anything except everyday sewing thread for garment construction, so far.
Naturally, leather lacing showed up, but so did (dun...Dun....DUNNNN!!!!!) jewelry cording. I wonder if Estefy makes her own jewelry???)
She is enough of a narcissistic sociopath that I wouldn't put it past her to have Lopez 2.0 whacking our last two vics.
You have outdone yourself. What a marvelous recap you've given us to enjoy this weekend. I especially adore your parenthetical asides. Thank you!
Unintentional humor? Stefi cringes thinking about what they did to that poor man.
Get real, Stefi. It's nothing compared to what YOU have done to others (although, claro, they always deserved it!)
Lovely observation: (As only Smeeth can flounce without a flouncy dress on.)
Jean has already mentioned this one, but it's so good it bears repeating: Vic turns on the innocence spigot
Before she can say a word, Javier pulls Reina into a long, long kiss. (See Tue Jul 15 for the Stairwell Kiss and decide whether this one is for love or survival.)
See also the Hallway Kiss in the hotel where Marino tried to have his way with Reina.
What can I say? Reinamaniacs will be in hog heaven all weekend!
stellar recap and with flounce as well.
hmm, when Reina first got locked in her room didn't she specifically ask Asuncion to get a hold of Esmeeth, and tell her what was happening?
strange that everyone goes down to Intelligence headquarters to make statements, except Connie who goes to the police station with Christian.
I'm actually intrigued by the name Patricio Picasso (PP for short) let's hear about his parents and why they named him that, or did they too die with sealed lips.
hmm, I'm thinking in the local graveyard the stones are laid flat, level with the ground, maybe it's a lawn cutting issue, but the grass was sticking up like maybe it wasn't trimmed around something.
haha, "the death suite of a swanky Las Vegas hotel".
ah so Juanjo is short for Juan Jose, and don nadie (nobody) was new to me.
hmm, I was thinking that when Greta moved into Estefi's place she was restricted to the first floor, wheelchair and all, (downstairs from the doll room, vault, and Estefi's room with the dancing pole, etc.) but Estefi would see about changing this, and it looks like she has.
I hadn't made the connection to Estefi being a doll amongst dolls that saved her life as a child, to her current obsession with dolls, until she retold the story.
ah yes the KISS, that silences Reina,
and the CURSE of a gran amor.
"I don't see how it being Victor could be described as chilling
I agree. Everyone except maybe Clarita knows that Victor is a killer. And Rocky certainly knew that Estefania and Izzy had body counts in the double or triple digits.
So the CHILLING part must have to do with a WEIRD TWISTED BACKSTORY or a conspiracy involving people we have thus far assumed to be INNOCENT. Or maybe Rocky stumbled on collusion between the terrorists and the CIA going up to the highest ranks. THAT is something he might find chilling.
We are all suspicious of the unethical and overly tall FELS (and rightly so), but we have given Dr. Jackie Montoya a pass. Why? We ARE looking someone who knows her DRUGS; now we've added another trait: the killer knows how to suture a mouth shut.
Who are we thinking of as GOOD GUYS?
Asunción? (Odd behavior, conceals info about the past, Victor's tolerance of her presence in the house is inexplicable)
Esmeeth? (What about those cello strings? What do we really know about Esmeeth? Not even her name!)
Laz, Juanjo, Connie, Greta? (hard to see them as anything but lightweights)
Susana? (Why is she the exec of Victor's Secret? What is she hiding?)
Hmmm...
hmm, when Reina first got locked in her room didn't she specifically ask Asuncion to get a hold of Esmeeth, and tell her what was happening?
She did. But Victor apparently intercepted the note she passed under the door and told Reina not to try that again.
hmm, I was thinking that when Greta moved into Estefi's place she was restricted to the first floor, wheelchair and all, (downstairs from the doll room, vault, and Estefi's room with the dancing pole, etc.) but Estefi would see about changing this, and it looks like she has.
When Greta first arrived at Estefi's place, Estefi told her to choose her room: downstairs might be more convenient, but upstairs was also fine because the house had an ELEVATOR.
I always assumed that Patricio Picasso was a made-up nom de guerre just like Javier Bolívar (or Rocky Balboa). But who knows? FELS is certainly an artist of sorts. :D
I had to wake up early this morning for a mini-marathon to catch up and I am distraught by Rocky's passing. I'm going to miss him and I hope that he will be in some flashbacks.
NovelaMaven-I for one am not willing to give Dr. Montoya a pass.
ah, thanks so much NovelaMaven for clarifying those points.
there was a time when I watched a lot of Perry Mason and tried to guess from the getgo who the guilty one was, an impossible task because it was usually a character introduced early but discarded/ignored as a suspect, and except for being introduced late, the highly efficient but detached Dra. Jackie Montoya would fit the bill, and odd that el Picasso, who knows all, was bit thrown off by her arrival,
or she could be an infiltrator, there to uncover the real Supremo.
what throws me is why Javier (now his legal name, right?) does whatever PP tells him to do, doesn't he suspect something is amiss?
what throws me is why Javier (now his legal name, right?) does whatever PP tells him to do, doesn't he suspect something is amiss?
Javier always seems to have an ace up his sleeve. He's never completely candid with anyone. I'm thinking he's playing FELS/PPELS for his own purposes. {By the way, FELS/PPELS reminds me of detective Paul Drake's favorite expression: Hell's bells, Perry! Or at least he used to say that in the books, not so much in the tv series.]
So much happens in this novela loca that I cannot remember.
Speaking of the dead, and it isn't even Halloween yet....
The whole Body Count List is ready--as of Friday. It's a good thing (or bad thing) I waited. There were more bodies that had to be added. I'll reproduce the Major Character List and put up the Minor Character List (it's longer).
BODY COUNT
Major Characters
or ones we've been told about by major characters)
1. Camila (we saw her briefly) - suicide
2. Artemio Hidalgo, Andres’ dad (we saw him briefly) – heart attack brought on by poison
3. Lopez 1.0 and wife (we didn’t really see her) – by someone on Victor’s payroll
4. Andres Hidalgo – heart attack brought on by poison administered by Frank
5. Betina (Greta’s nurse-traitor) – knifed by Frank
6. Carmen – shot in her car with a gun held by a gloved man’s hand
7. Frank Merino (or was it Marino) – goes down in a shoot-out with Navier, with Smeeth taking the shot (but is he DEAD, dead)
8. Damián, The Putz – poisoned with virus-venom put in his IV, by Victor
9. El Maestro (Old Leonard Nimoy) – killed by Big O.
10. Octavio, Big O. – shot in the temple with a bullet that doesn’t match the gun left at the sight. Flashback verifies it was Victor himself who pulled the trigger.
11. Miriam, Roman’s mother & Laz’ “mujer” – overdose of something she injected, given to her by Stefi
12. The first Reina look-alike hired by Stefi who chickened out of the “job” – poisoned by coffee prepared by Stefi
13. Delfina Ortiz (aka Odious Bitch Delfina) – shot in the heart by someone on Victor’s payroll.
14. The Big Belgian Waffle (self-appointed heir to Big O’s Belgian wing of his cartel after Big O went to that big diamond in the sky) – by Fiel to Big O. Ponytail guy.
15. Rocky, falls out of rack of bridal gowns, dead, with his mouth sewn shut – NO CLUES — please bring in Agatha Christie or Hercule Poirot for the next few episodes.
+ + + + + + RIP
(or ones who we consider minor or were gone in an instant and barely remembered)
1. Stefi’s parents – assassinated by rival drug traffickers while she watched.
2. All 13, (10 men and 3 women) who attended the Camila party which was video-taped – in accidents.
3. Uncounted, but numerous stone-cold dead in the warehouse storage freezer that went up in flames – by Victor, proudly claiming them as his to Stefi.
4. The traffickers who thought Victor had betrayed him were all killed in the restaurant where Reina & Victor had come for a quiet dinner – Navier shot them all (don’t know how many there were).
5. The Middle Eastern man (we can tell because he wears a burnoose) who was examining a gem in Stefi’s hand – Isidro tortures him and Victor sticks him with an Injecto-Death 3000.
6. The guy holding Reina in the warehouse and his two buddies – shot by Navier
7. All the guys holding Stefi and Lopez 1.0 (at the same time that Reina was being held) – by people who enter with red laser target lights and shooting as they come
8. The video-camera man standing outside of Reina’s house – shot by Rocky (not sure if he actuallly died)
9. The woman in red, standing-in for the Queen of Diamonds – Victor with the Injecto-Death 3000
10. A hooded “organization” guy who got the red (fake) diamond from Victor is blown up inside his car – Victor uses a remote (he chuckles as he watched the explosion and flames).
11. The runway model carrying the Bouquet-o’-Death-6000 victim, cum paid killer – dead by the Bo’D Navier turned on her (I think—it was very quick footwork.)
12. Dr. Stuart in the lab – with a virus, not Victor, he’s the one that finds him
13. And the second body in the lab, Rausen – presumably with a virus, Smeeth finds him.
14. The woman who bungled the Diamond Crown exchange – Victor strangles her after having sex with her and uses his Injecto-Death 3000 (while Stefi watches and records it, to little avail).
15. A thug in black who had been keeping Rocky tied up and bloody – Smeeth and Co. barge in, she shoots this guy in the thigh and a second man is shot (maybe dead-they didn’t say) and then someone shoots the wounded guy who was taking aim at Smeeth. It turns out to have been El Supremo, but no one knew it at the time.
16. The body of a money lender who supposedly had ties to the Putz, has been found with poison in his posession and dead. He is presumed by Cristian to have offed the Putz – actually the work of Stefi and Lopez 2.0 (a gift to Victor, el Halcon Negro, from Stefi).
17. Cristian’s wife, Mirta and the Camila barn caper (in a flashback moment); then she died unexpectedly – case not closed, Cristian is suspected. (For some reason Izzy says to Connie, “Ask him about his wife.”)
18. Susana’s rapist – joint effort by Susana and Victor, buried in the garden 20 years ago. (This may be the same guy that, in week 4, Cristian says worked as a security guard for Camille AND worked for powerful drug dealers—when he is suggesting Susana was an assassin back when. In week 9, Victor tells Cristian at the LVPD that the rapist has a name - Humberto Giraldez. He was 45 years old and had a prior record for rape.)
19. Mrs. Octavio de Rosas (aka Victor’s Mommie Dearest) – strangled by her own silk stocking by Big O 15 years ago.
20. Two of Victor’s henchmen MINUS Izzy, who was on a semi-booty call – Victor shoots them saving Navier (and himself because he had ordered Navier’s death that morning—before learning Daddy Dearest had left evidence to ruin him, should anything happen to Javier).
+ + + + RIP
21. A thug in black at the Bridal Boutique at the same time Delfina was shot – shot most likely by Fernando el Super (who got grazed in the upper arm).
22. The turncoat on Victor’s payroll who was forced to swallow the fake Red Diamond with a whisky chaser at Stefi’s house – Lopez 2.0 dispatched him out of Stefi’s presence (although we now know he didn’t die right away, aaghh).
23. Old Antiquarian’s heir, Mr. Meek ‘n Mousy – stabbed to death inside the shop, his lips sewn shut. There are no clues, but your intrepid reporter is fingering Victor in a copy cat murder. He would be the most likely to know that the guy squeeked (to carry on the allusion to mice) to Smeeth about Vic’s purchasing the fake Red Diamond. My question is—why did Old Nimoy have fakes to begin with. He was all into the real ones and the curse and how the curse was going to be lifted (just MHO). OTOH, FELS and Dr. Montoya also knew Smeeth was going to make the Antiquarian Shoppe a stop to “interrogate” the new owner and heir. (Sorry, red herrings abound.)
+ + + + RIP
On that list is the money lender the one they found in the alley stabbed and with the playing card?
I watched after my house guest went to sleep late last night. I love all the theories surrounding the identity of our new killer, or an old killer's new MO. Do we have a name for the killer? El Custurero?
Vivi--I guess we do now. Typo? El Costurero.
P.S. I started to watch Outlanders on xFinity, but then they wanted me to pay for a subscription. Too bad. I got hooked right away.
To help the cops make the connection, it had to be the same poison Victor used on the Putz, so Patio Participants found this a bit of a stretch since WE didn't know what type of poison it was, so how would Stefi know to plant it on the guy. (Unless Vic and Stefi use the same supplier of Injecto-Death 3000 refills.)
As you say, a body showed up in the alley, stabbed with a playing card on him, it was this guy. I think I recall the scene...didn't the knife go through the playing card?
I'll change it on my Body Count master list.
YES!!! That guy! Is he on the list? If so, who is he again? My pear half and red jello are getting a real workout with this show.
That was way before the Putzicide, wasn't it?
And MANY, MANY thanks to Jean for compiling recaps by week. I was able to go to those and search for what I was looking for.
But I'm not obsessed.
"Susana tells Cristian about the dead 13. He tries to dissuade her from investigating further, but she needs to know if the 14th person is dead or the killer of the other 13. The Putz overhears everything."
But I'm not obsessing or anything, redux.
This guy. Who is he? This pre-dates the death of the putz doesn't it? Yeah, I just went back and looked. This body showed up right after Putz accused Laz of fondling a paralyzed Greata. So this dead guy is NOT the moneylender offed to get Laz off the hook. In fact, this guy is no character at all. His only appearance was as an already dead guy.
And know I'm really obsessing and wondering what the hell he even showed up for.
So this guy was killed by Victor for taping Camila? What's with the card?
I'm slowly going insane.
If there are two different deaths (that we are talking about), could The Putz have gotten worried that it might be discovered he did the video, so he conveniently found a stand-in to take the fall (so to speak)?
It should have happened before he tried the extortion and gotten beaten up by Stefi's henchmen, no?
Cristian DID do a follow up. I'm the one that got confused. Cristian is accusing Susana of the death of the guy you described at 1:27--"Cristian arrives on a crime scene. He's not on the case, but he can help."
"Susana at Cristian's office. She says it wasn't her! Her wanting to kill Reina was a long time ago. Cristian thinks it's suspicious that the dead man worked security for the Camille company where Susana also worked. She reminds him she doesn't work there anymore and there are lots of employees. She doesn't know them all. Cristian is still not convinced. Dead guy worked for powerful drug dealers. Dead guy was capable of killing a man in front of his 4 year old daughter (Could that be Estefania? If so, there are all kinds of time-line issues. Beanie adjustment in 3...2..1) Susana swears it wasn't her, but could it be that Cristian is trying to thrown the blame on her to take the heat off of HIM?" --Week Three, Fri Jul 25 - Sara.
What confused us is the two scenes were so far apart and not obviously connected. Hope this settles it for good. (Amazing how much time we've spent on a minor character!)
Will have edit my masterlist and add the Card & Banner guy to the list, uppinging the minor characters to 24.
That guy you are talking about turned out to be the assassin Susana hired to kill Reina. Remember she admitted to Christian that she had been capable to have someone killed and JJ overheard this and thought she was a murderer and dangerous.
Two small corrections to the body count list:
- Betina was shot by Frank not knifed
- Victor himself killed Lopez 1.0 and his wife with the InjectoDeath 3000
In the Case of the Card and Banner guy Cristian said he would help with. WAS he the one Cristian was describing later?
Sara--Don't blame you for getting confused. Many of us are. Card and Banner guy was the guy you described at 1:27. You nailed it, he is NOT the moneylender.
If Mauricio is right (and I think he is) Card and Banner guy WAS the guy Susana hired to kill Reina years ago. She protests that it was a long time ago and had nothing to do with his murder (see copy at 2:13).
Whoever DID do it, knew about the significance of the Queens of playing cards and OBD & Big O's signs and banners. (Remember the sign on the mirror after the attempted shower killing of Navier & Reina.)
Will make the corrections and post them with the next compilation of Wisdoms for weeks 7-12(after next week's).
Okay, I've got my beanie hat securely fastened and I'm ready for take off Captain. Here we go for another Reinamaniacs' week!
