Hola mi Reina-maniacs... I HAVE RETURNED!!

With my sincerest apologies for having left such a wonderful and fun bunch of people, and for this- seriously- one of the most wonderful and FUN of telenovelas (can anyone here dispute me on that??), I can now proudly and HAPPILY volunteer to recap this coming Wednesday's episode... and furthermore I actually believe that I'll be able to hitch up my proverbial britches and can further commit to filling in wherever else may be necessary... just please let me know ahead of time at my email address- 'gutsyradish@gmail'com'. At present, I've left where I left you (the Northernmost regions of Ontario, Canada... where internet connectivity- believe it or not- really WAS still sketchy), and am visiting a friend on the Massachusetts/Connecticut border. From here, I leave Monday for Atlanta, where I'll be for a month before returning to my beloved Nicaragua.
My point of all of this is that I'll have regular internet access, and would be happy to contribute as needed. :-)
So... I'll look forward to contributing this coming Wednesday. AND... of course, to catching up with you and with all things Reina here on CarayCaray as well.

Dudes, I slept through the episode last night (but have the recording), and I need a fix. What happened last night? Even a little hint/fix before the recap is up will do. :)
 

Jueves Part 1

“Think about what you are saying...”
is what the Dragon tells Boris after Boris tells him that Reina is a spy and never lost her memory. Boris calls Reina a traitor and tells Navier that Reina could be the end of the organization. When Boris found out Reina had blackmailed Big O he decided to make good on his promise and kill her. “What did you do?” Navier asks him. “She wants to negotiate with you” Boris replies. “But she confessed – she’s a spy, got close to you as part of a plan, and remembers everything perfectly well” he tells Navier. Navier will negotiate with Reina. Boris warns him that Reina is a dangerous woman who lied about everything. Navier assures him that he knows how to handle Reina. Boris tells Navier that they have to get back the evidence and then kill Reina. Navier assures him that he’ll get the evidence back and tells Boris that if what he says is true then he’ll kill Reina himself.

I’m all tied up in the library…
We catch a glimpse of Reina all tied up (literally) in the library.

I’m a medical professional and have little knowledge of these things…
Laz – Does Greta have an infection?
Doc – Yes.

Laz – Is it serious?
Doc – It all depends on how she responds to treatment.

Laz – Is the baby in danger?
Doc – They’re both in danger.

Laz – Did Greta’s father already know about the pregnancy or did he just find out?
Doc – Ask him.

Laz realizes that Victor already knew about the pregnancy.

“You're not alone…”
Susana prays for Greta and Juanjo consoles her. “You’re not alone” he tells her. “I know” she says.

Yoli is having the time of her life…
Yoli is having the time of her life and getting her groove on. She’s even wearing the sailor’s costume. She throws herself on the laps of the stripers who are clad in their underwear sitting on the sofa. Connie the party pooper comes out of her room and turns off the music and tells everyone to go home because the party is over. She tells the guests and strippers that she doesn’t want anymore parties, laughs, or anything. “Do you still want to get married?” Yoli asks her. Connie doesn’t answer the question. She just tells everyone to leave.

I just want to think about love making tonight…
Esmeeth tells
FELS/PELS/GELS/Whatever that she knows how he is. She knows he is incorruptible. She knows he’d never forgive a betrayal. She knows he has morals and principles. She knows he would never forgive a lie. That’s what really hurts her. She leaves but he grabs her by the arm and tells her that he doesn’t know if it’s a lie and doesn’t know if there is anything that can split them up. He tells her he doesn’t know if he is how she thinks he is and doesn’t know if she is how his guts tells him. All he knows is that he doesn’t want to think about anything tonight especially Victor. He kisses her passionately and she jumps into his arms. The two head for the bedroom. No love on the sofa tonight folks.
 

Jueves Part 2

I should have changed before coming to get a glass of milk…
Victor catches Izzy wearing the masked wrestler costume. Victor makes fun of Izzy and asks if Izzy was out entertaining a child’s birthday party. “Not exactly, sir” says Izzy ashamed. Izzy is glad to see Victor is free. Victor asks Izzy where the hell he is when he needs him. Izzy tells Victor that a bunch of things occurred today. “Tell me about them…I might be interested” says Victor. Izzy tells Victor that Connie had the red diamond and Christian stole it.

I don’t want to answer my darn phone……
Navier puts the battery back in his cellphone and calls FELS/PELS
/GELS/Whatever who is the middle of a heated and passionate love making session in the bedroom with Esmeeth. He doesn’t want to answer his phone at first but Esmeeth insists he answer. When he realizes Navier is the caller he hops out of bed and leaves the bedroom. Navier tells him not to try and trace the call because he won’t be able to. Navier wants to know if Reina works for him and is a spy. He confirms that Reina worked for him before her wedding and works for him now. She is his spy. That’s all Navier wanted to know. He hangs up and removes the battery from his cell phone. Esmeeth comes out of the bedroom and asks if it was Jackie aka Dra. Moto. He replies that it was Navier.

This is how misunderstandings happen…
Dra. Moto shows up at the hospital. Laz is upset over Greta. Dra. Moto consoles him and they hug. Estefy sees them hugging.

Christian will arrive to the altar in a coffin…
Izzy is all set to make sure Christian arrives at the altar in a coffin. “Take it easy my little masked wrestler” says Victor. Victor never believed Izzy had the red diamond and knows Christian has it. He knows Izzy would be incapable of stealing from him. Victor tells Izzy that they’ll get the red diamond back. He is sure Reina gave Connie the red diamond. He asks Izzy if he knows where Reina is. Izzy replies that Reina is at home. Victor informs him that Reina is not at home and the GPS device on her watch has been disconnected. “Why don’t you take care of the important matters instead of chasing after Connie?” Victor asks him. Izzy asks Victor if he’ll let Connie and Christian get married tomorrow. Victor replies that "there’s love and then there’s business". He tells Izzy that the sooner they get the red diamond the sooner Connie will be a widow.

The longest guilt trip ever……
Connie comes to see Christian at LVPD. She’s upset and feeling very guilty over her betrayal. She tells him they can’t get married tomorrow and tells him what a terrible person she is. She tells him that she cheated on him with Izzy.

She goes on and on with this guilt trip. She tells him how much she has always hated infidelity. She tells him they could pretend HE was the one who cheated on her so she could look like a fool [of course if they do that HE would look worse] or they could have HIM leave her at the altar in front of everyone. Throughout this whole guilt trip Christian was silent and he finally speaks up and tells Connie they’ll still get married no matter what she did.

Christian tells her that they’ll make believe this conversation never happened. He tells her they’ll get married and start a new life. “How can you forgive me if I can’t forgive myself?” Connie asks him. Christian replies that he’s sure he’s the right man for her and she’s the right woman for him. He tells her that a mistake won’t put at risk what they can build together. He tells her that he’ll have a cop take her home. He doesn’t want anything to happen to her. He tells her that he has a honeymoon planned that he is sure she will love. He tells her that he loves her and she tells him that he’s the best thing that happened to her. They hug.

I spy with my little eyes a bracelet but not my Queen of Hearts...
Navier and Boris guns in hands show up at the library and Reina is not where Boris left her. All they find is her bracelet.
 

Jueves Part 3

There you are my Queen of Hearts…
Navier finds Reina and strokes her hair. The two stare into each other’s eyes.

Estefy is a non-believer but she prays anyway…
Laz tells Estefy that the infection could be far too serious for the pregnancy. Dra. Moto tells them the infection could be stopped if they get the right antibiotic. Dra. Moto will go and find out about Greta’s condition. Laz thanks her and tells her he doesn’t know why she does all this for him. She replies that she doesn’t know why she does all this either and leaves. Estefy prays and asks God to help Greta if he does exist. Susana, Juanjo, and Victor show up. “What happened with Greta?” Victor asks.

Doc lets Dra. Moto see the results…
Dra. Moto enters Greta’s hospital room and introduces herself to the Doc as a doctor and friend of the family. She wants to know what Greta’s prognosis is. He lets her take a look at the results. He tells her Greta had all the symptoms – low blood pressure, rapid heart beat and breathing, and confusion. Victor enters the hospital room just as Doc informs Dra. Moto that they’ve detected the bacteria but the treatment isn’t working.

Izzy tries to write a “don’t get married letter”...
Izzy attempts to write Connie a “don’t get married” letter. He writes several letters but crumples them up. He writes one letter where he tells her that if she gets married he’ll end up alone forever. There will be no more woman or prostitutes for him. No wait scratch the prostitutes part. He will end up alone and love her until the day he takes his last breath.
 

Juves part 4

Reina bluffed and Boris puffed……
Navier tells Boris to leave. Boris reluctantly leaves. Navier tells Reina he knows she’s a spy and works for the CIA. He tells her he knows that it’s a lie that she didn’t lose her memory. “How can you be so sure?” she asks him. She asks him “how can he be sure that it isn’t part of a plan?”

Navier is sure. He knows Reina recognized and remembered him the day of her wedding but when she saw him at the hospital she looked at him differently. Words can lie but her eyes and the way she looked at him and the expression on her face can’t. She tells him that she lied because she wanted to save her life. She tells him that Boris believes that she’s an agent and spy and she doesn’t know what she is. All she knows is what she was told. Flashback of the diamonds being found at the bridal shop. She tells Navier that since then PELS/FELS/GELS/Whatever made her work for him. She tells him that she had to give him the evidence that Big O had given her and she had to hand over the diamonds. She doesn’t know why she didn’t hand over the evidence and doesn’t know why she got married. She tells Navier she doesn’t know where the evidence is now. Navier assures her that Boris won’t do anything to her. He asks Reina not to keep secrets from him anymore. She tells him that she was told that if she told him his life would be in danger. He tells her that THEY [CIA] have no feelings and are trained not to have any. THEY are trained to obey and carry out orders and not to feel.

Greta realizes her father is a monster……
“What are you doing here?” Victor asks Dra Moto. She tells him they’ll talk later and leaves the room. Victor tells Doc to save his daughter’s life or Doc will die a terrible death. Victor tells Doc he doesn’t care about the baby. The baby could die but Doc must save Greta’s life. Greta overhears. Greta realizes her father is a monster and knew she was preggers before the operation. Victor explains that the Doc knew there weren’t any risks. Greta knows Victor doesn’t love the baby because he’s Laz’s child. Greta tells Victor that she always forgave him for everything because she loves him and because he is her dad but she won’t forgive him for messing with her baby. She kicks Victor out. Victor tries to explain. Greta tells Victor to leave. Victor leaves.

Things aren’t looking good for Esmeeth…
FELS/PELS/GELS/Whatever looks at his phone and gives Esmeeth the results of the report. The text came from the phone that was found in Esmeeth’s apartment but the phone was under a false name. The cameras only registered workers working on an electric repair. They will investigate who the workers are and what company they work for. Esmeeth says that its obvious that someone is out to get her and that person is close to them. “This is just the beginning…” she says.

Dra. Moto and Victor have some words……
Dra. Moto tells Victor she's at the hospital because she's a friend of Laz's. "That's all I needed for you be to be friends with the man who my daughter chose" says Victor. Vitor is sure that Greta will be cured from the infection. Before leaving Dra. Moto tells him that they will be seeing each either at the hospital or at the CIA. She leaves. Estefy shows up and tells Victor that Greta has gotten worse.
 

Jueves Part 5

Reina wants to be Victor free...
Navier unties Reina. She thanks him for trusting her and tells him she loves him. She wants to kiss him but he doesn’t think this is the place for a smooch. Reina tells Navier she wants to get Victor out of her life and Clara’s life and is willing to do anything to achieve it. She was willing to do it before and is willing to do it now. He spots the “Diamond, Legend, & Passions” book that fell to the ground. Boris shows up. “Have you decided what to do with her?” he asks Navier. Navier tells Reina she has 24 hours to hand over the evidence because her life depends on it. Navier thanks Boris for opening his eyes and helping him realize who Reina is.

“I was kidnapped…..”
Reina arrives back home and finds Victor smoking a cigar. Asuncion is glad to see Reina is back at home. Asuncion goes to get Reina some tea. Victor tells Reina that he was released because they couldn’t prove anything. He asks her where she is coming from. She replies that she was kidnapped. Victor jokes around with this and asks if an alien abducted her or if a fan kidnapped her after all she’s a fashion celebrity. Or maybe an ex-fugitive of the law kidnapped her. Reina replies that a man who worked for Big O kidnapped her. She tells him that the man wanted some papers that she supposedly took from Big O. She shows him the marks on her wrists to convince him that she really was kidnapped. Victor asks her who the bastard was that dared touch her. She asks him if he knows where the evidence is or perhaps he has them. He says he doesn’t know anything.


The day of the wedding……
Juanjo tells Connie that Laz will meet her at the church. Connie asks Juanjo about Greta. He replies that Greta is stable but not doing well. Juanjo tells Connie that Greta is pregnant. A letter is slipped through the door. Connie thinks it could be bills because the mailman always slips letters through the door. She takes a look at the letter and realizes it’s from Izzy.

Hey what’s Reina doing in this book…
The Dragon reads the “Diamond, Legend, and Passions” book and says Reina’s name after seeing a picture inside the book. I guess the woman in the book is supposed to be Reina.

I stole the evidence…
Greta isn’t doing well. She calls for Reina. Estefy doesn’t get what the hell Greta could want with Reina. Reina arrives and Greta asks to be alone. Estefy and Laz leave. Greta tells Reina that she stole the evidence against Big O and Victor from her on the day of the wedding.

Reina was furious the day of her wedding and Greta didn’t think Reina would show up at church but Reina did. Reina looked as if she was going to her own funeral. Greta didn’t want her dad and grandfather to go to prison. She heard that Reina was going to turn them in and flee. Reina wasn’t going to get married. Reina became desperate when she couldn’t find the evidence.

There is a flashback of the first scene of the novela where Reina gets ready for her wedding and writes in her diary and breaks a mirror. We hear Reina thoughtbubbling that “they say a bad wedding is better than a good funeral…could it be true?”
 

Jueves 6

In between a “Castillo” and “Palacios”……
Connie tells Juanjo she doesn’t want to know anything more about Izzy. She’ll be Christian’s wife and will be faithful. She’ll have five or six kids or however many God sends her. Izzy will be just a memory. Juanjo jokes around and tells Connie that she’s in between a “Castillo” (castle) and “Palacios” (kingdoms). Connie is staying with “Palacios”. Connie asks Juanjo who he’ll stay with – Susana or Yoli.

Why the hell did she want to see Reina…?
Estefy, Susana, & Laz have no idea why Greta wanted to see Reina. Victor shows up and asks about Greta. Laz informs him that Greta woke up with a fever and her medication was switched again. Victor wants to go in and see Greta but is told Greta is with Reina and asked to be alone.

That bastard wasn’t my father...
Dra. Moto tells FELS/PELS/GELS/
Whatever that there is evidence that proves that Esmeeth could be in cahoots with Victor. She doesn’t understand why he doesn’t separate Esmeeth from the case. He trusts Esmeeth. She knows that he doesn’t trust her enough. She knows him and can read his eyes. He tells her there isn’t any evidence. She tells him not to deny them because there is evidence – the phone and the chip. “Who’s the boss here?” he asks her. He tells her that he’s the boss around there and he is the one who makes the decisions and he trusts Esmeeth. Dra. Moto can’t believe he has changed so much. After all he was capable of turning in his own dad. If he turned in his dad it was because he deserved it. His dad was violent and screwed up his life and screwed up his family’s life. He wants to make it clear to her that the bastard was NOT his father.

I hope no theologians are watching this show……
Navier reads from the book:
“The Fourth Wise Man never arrived. He didn’t go. He feared being called a thief and that no one would believe that they had stolen the gift that he had brought for Jesus. A red diamond. The red diamond traveled around the world for years and years causing natural disasters and family tragedies. It was in the hands of many and only brought on drought, diseases, floods, wars, and death. One day it reached the hands of a powerful king who celebrated its arrival and added it to the three diamonds he already had. When the four diamonds were together all was good for the kingdom until greed and hatred ended that wealth and abundance. The prince, his heir, killed the king to steal the diamonds but was only able to steal two. His father died knowing his son would be cursed and his life would be plagued with misfortunes. He knew the curse would end on the day the diamonds reached the right woman. The greedy son wanted to know how to recognize that woman. The king told him that she’d have a cross of gold on her chest and she must die when he finds her so he can live. And the king died. The new king didn’t have peace and lived obsessed with finding that woman and killing her until one day at the church door he saw a beautiful bride with the cross hanging from her neck. That was the woman and her cross was a trimmed cross.

Ok so Reina is that woman I guess…
We get a close-up of Reina’s cross.

They better not kill her off…
Reina tells Greta she understands her because she did what she did to protect her father. Reina would have done the same thing to protect her own father. “Why are you telling me now?” Reina asks. Greta replies that she is telling her now because her dad wants her baby to die and she won’t ever forgive him. That’s why she wants to apologize because she feels like she’s dying and doesn’t want to die with this guilt. She wants to be in peace and be able to arrive in heaven and hold her baby. She asks Reina for forgiveness. Greta is about to tell Reina where the evidence is but she flatlines. Monitors beep. Doc comes into the room and checks on Greta.
 

Thanks Mauricio! Now I'm excited to watch. So, Navier once again urges Reina to be 100% honest with him, and STILL doesn't tell her about his own CIA connection?

I have to say that as I was watching this part, I was imagining how you would describe it (and was very grateful that I didn't have to). It was so confusing. You manage to tell this crazy story in a way that ALMOST makes sense. :D

I REALLY don't want to see Greta sacrificed just so Victor can suffer. Unfortunately, it looks like we are headed in that direction.

On more important subjects --

I'm fairly sure that Juanjo's bowtie was a clip-on.

What is this mafia that Boris of Belgium is talking about? Didn't Esmeeth say the Belgian Wafflers were toast? I'm completely confused about the seemingly inexhaustible source of bad guys!

I wonder why someone doesn't take someone's gps cheep and put it on a bus or something that is leaving town, like they do in the movies.

interesting when Victor runs into dra. Moto in Greta's room, the lady that just interrogated him, but what's up with Greta's infection, it all started when the slimy doctor kicked everyone out so he could do some tests.

I'm still wondering about Gregorio, he has been feeding Stefi information over the years, but are we to believe she that Stefi has him completely fooled, after all he did have his best guy, Javier, investigating her.

and it's interesting that Javier is hiding out, this takes him completely out of Gregorio's control.

and the tied up Reina's so desperate look, in her eyes, when Javier shows up, it just said everything. (I'm really loving Paola Núñez)

Sorry, guys, I can't resist. We're all wearing our orange and black and totally over the moon.

Due to lots of baseball, I've been more or less MIA. But the game was over early enough last night (West Coast time) that I was able to watch TWO Reinas. Exciting episodes both, and I'll comment after I have read the recaps.
 

Congrats Novelera on the Giants wining the pennant. I hope they win the World Series.

Great recap, Mauricio. There was a lot of stuff there and you got it all in concise fashion. I loved your transcription of Dr. Moto's conversation with Greta's evil doctor. The first thing I would have done when it became clear that the evil doctor had operated on Greta knowing that she was pregnant was can his ass and get another doctor.

The legend of the red diamonds return this time with more info and a pretty clear indication, if we had any doubt, that Reina is the queen in question. I want to see her wearing the four diamonds in some kind of crown like in the picture in the book. But the Wikipedia version said a queen "or a goddess.." was immune from the curse. Is there a goddess hanging around somewhere?
 

What are we to make of the fact that the reina in the book looked like a rubia? (And there's only one rubia running around in this story...)

At what point did Reina start wearing the white gold cross again? I didn't think we'd see her in it after it was planted on the poor murdered Reina look-alike.

Now we know why Reina was mad enough to break the mirror. I could be wrong, but I don't think they would kill Greta off, hopefully more so now that she has gotten IMHO more interesting.

I was surprised that Javier wasn't more ticked off with Boris' mishandling of Reina, I guess he had to play it cool or something. But at least he believed Reina, and they aren't distanced more than they already are.

It must say something of your of life when you can stroll into the house, and you can calmly explain that you weren't home because you were kidnapped.

NovelaMaven, I'm not quite sure when Reina got her cross back. I kind of have a fuzzy memory of Smith giving it back to Reina, but it could of been the others times she's lost it.

Boris probably has no knowledge of Reina's relationship with Javier so it's not surprising that he'd want to kill someone he perceives to be a threat.

I don't think we were shown Reina getting the cross back after Victor killed the bonbon-ette.

How interesting that DocMoto shows up at the hospital with no credentials or documents, and the attending surgeon lets her look over Greata's file, etc., yadda. Here? In Las Vegas? In the U.S.A.? They are ALL wearing their telenovela beanies.

Will Connie marry Christian? or not? I can't wait for tonight's episode!

I've noticed something they do a lot on this novela. Viewerville wonders and wonders about the way something happened. A recent example is how Victor managed to get to CIA HQ with a harmless bracelet. And then they go on and show us a flashback later that explains it all.

I'm wondering if we'll get that flashback about what happened to Greta. We saw Victor's text message to the doctor to contact him. And Greta takes a turn for the worse. But they haven't yet outright said that the doctor put bacteria into her somehow -- bacteria that only harms a fetus! The doctor also asked to speak to Susana, and they never showed us that conversation.

I'm hoping Greta makes it, but it doesn't look good.

Our Superdotado FELS-PELS appears to have lost about 100 IQ points. Let's see: Completely dedicated, practically married to the CIA Esmeeth tells him SHE did not warn Victor. His porno star, Queen of Diamonds, willing to lie to get the man she wants sister tells him she did NOT warn Victor. And he can't figure it out.

I was SO afraid they were going with Navier deciding that Reina was the spy who faked amnesia. This novela often breaks with telenovela conventions that keep the protagonists angry with each other for months. I love it!
 

Novelera, congrats! (Though whenever you mention the Giants I have to remind myself that they are in San Francisco and not the Polo Grounds in New York City. And I'm not alone, as this piece in yesterday's NYT confirms: "Shot Brings Echo of '51: Giants Win the Pennant" --

jlk, I liked your observation about the reaction to Reina's kidnapping and what it says about her life. Indeed!

I remember Esmeeth returning the cross too, but I believe that was on another occasion. As Novelera points out, many things get explained in flashbacks. If this is important enough... If not, meh.
 

Yes, this novela does break conventions - Navier believed Reina really did lose her memory, Victor believed that Isidro didn't steal the diamond, it seemed like FELS wants to believe that Esmeeth didn't warn Victor even if he can't believe that Estefi did warn Victor.

I think Greta will make it. Didn't the character played by Ximena Duque in Corazon Valiante spend her entire pregnancy in a coma?

I'm not sure that Boris has no idea about Navier's relationship with Reina. He was involved in bringing her to Navier's hideout. I guess the CIA gave up on following him at some point.

I don't recall Reina getting the cross back after Victor put it on the dead bonboncito. Maybe that happened during the "un mes despues." ;-)

Oh no, ultima semanas! How many weeks left when they announce ultima semanas? I ask because I know that at least one hundred nineteen episodes were filmed and we're only at episode 80 here. So does that mean they're going to chop up the remaining episodes to fit a shorter timeline? I will be so bummed if they do that.

Viérnes - Parte Uno

Hospital-
Victor asks Estefi why she had him pretend that it was Esmeeth who warned him that the CIA was coming for him. “Demasiado preguntas inoficiosas, Too many useless questions,” responds Estefi. Why doesn’t Vic ask her why she saved him? Vic replies that he already knows the answer to that question - she will continue to save him for the rest of her life. They are one and the same. At that point Susana rushes in and says that Greta is dying. Laz runs into Greta’ room. The doctor orders him out. As he is forced out, he yells at Greta to fight.

Wedding place [it doesn’t really look like a Church] - Connie is outside in her wedding dress with Juanjo and Román. She is sad because Laz hasn’t shown up and he is supposed to be a witness and give her away. Reina is MIA, too and Connie feels so alone.We see that someone is watching. Juanjo shows up.

Hospital - I don’t like sharing relatives
Reina gets a message from Connie asking where she is. Susana and Estefi come in. Estefi accuses Reina of causing Greta’s relapse. Reina tells Estefi that she would never harm Greta. Estefi replies that Reina has done nothing but cause harm since the day she was born. Reina asks why Estefi hates her so much. “Think a little,” says Estefi, “and you can probably figure it out.” “We share a brother,” says Reina. “That only makes me hate you more,” says Estefi. “I can share a man with you but my brother! La sangre no es aqua, (blood is thicker than water). I hate you so much, Reina sin corona (Reina without a crown).”

CIA Heaquarters

Esmeeth comes into FELS’ office. She says that she knows that she shouldn’t have come since she is a suspect but she couldn’t help herself. She wants to unmask who is doing this to her. FELS says that she has a indomitable spirit, fighting to the end.

Wedding place - A van drives up and a masked man grabs Connie, shakes off Román, throws Connie in the van and drives off.

Navier’s hideout-It’s story time with the Dragon

Navier continues to read his book about diamond legends:
As the king was about to behead the chosen woman, he couldn’t do it. Her gaze made him fall in love with her forever and he couldn’t kill her. But the curse continued. The woman wasn’t alone. She had a life and a love to return to. The king couldn’t tolerate her rejection and locked her up where no one could find her. Her lover searched endlessly to liberate her from the tyrannical king. The king was known for beheading all the women he found wearing a cross around their necks. The warrior fought to free his love from hell. One day he came to a cave guarded by bears in the cold mountains. He heard the voice of his beloved. He was reunited with his beloved. They thought that they had found happiness but tragedy followed them. The king had no pity. He killed her in his arms to end the curse once and for all. Without his love or the four diamonds, the warrior mourned for eternity. In the full moon, you can still hear him weeping for his lost love but the curse continues.

 

Viérnes - Parte Dos

There’s a knock at the door. It’s Boris. He has brought news from “headquarters.” Even if Reina hands over the proofs, she still has to die.

Hospital-
Victor comes out and tells everyone that Greta is a profound coma and she lost the baby. He says that the doctor doesn’t believe that there is much chance that Greta will ever wake up. Vic asks Reina what she is doing there and she asks if that matters now. Once again Estefi accuses Reina of causing Greta to go into a coma. “If my daughter dies,” Estefi says to Reina, “you die with her.” Vic assures everyone that no one will die. Greta will wake up and he will be there waiting for her.

Navier’s hideout-
Boris says that they can’t let the traitor live. He knows how “su padre” suffered. [the English subtitles translated this as “her father” but I think he means Navier’s father. He will do it with his own hands. Navier says no, he’ll handle it. Boris replies that he swore on Big O’s grave that he would kill Reina. Navier asks about the evidence. Boris doesn’t care. If Reina had it, she would have turned it over already. Navier suggests that the reason she hasn’t done so is because he, Navier is the real target. He assures Boris that neither of them will go to jail “pero Reina me encargo yo” “but I’ll take care of Reina.”

Wedding place -
Neither Juanjo nor Román are very good witnesses to what happened to Connie but Christián is sure that it was Izzy.

Room somewhere-
And so it was. Izzy tells Connie that her heart belongs to him and kisses her.

Hospital- I hope the evil doctor already got paid
First Victor and now Estefi threaten the evil doctor that if Greta doesn’t recover, he will die. The doctor says that he can’t do anything for Greta. Patients don’t wake up from the deep coma that she is in.

Navier skypes Esmeeth and asks her to make up proof that he, Big O and Victor are the most dangerous criminals on the planet. Would she do that for him? Esmeeth tells Navier that she has all the information she needs. He asks if he can count on her. “Don’t you think that you can count on your mother?” says Esmeeth. “That’s not what I asked,” says Navier, “do I need to repeat the question?” Esmeeth assures him that he can count on her. FELS comes in. He tells Navier not to be so sure. Some say that Esmeeth is on the side of Victor de Rosas.

Hospital- Laz begs the comatose Greta not to leave him. When she wakes up, they can fill their house with babies. He tells Reina that they have taken his life. She hugs him and says, “mine, too.”

It looks like Vic is in the stealing babies business again - like mother, like daughter
The evil doctor says that he didn’t like the way Vic’s woman (mujer) spoke to him. Former woman, says Vic and quite a handful. If she threatened you, you’d better be careful. The doctor says that the operation was a success. If it weren’t for the stupid old bacteria, she would be walking and having a normal life. He says that he followed Vic’s instruction to the letter. Vic replies that he will protect the doctor from Estefi but this stays between them.

 

Viérnes - Parte Tres

No one must know that Gretadidn’t lose the baby. Vic tells the evil doc to follow his instructions. He wants the best specialist for Greta’s condition - money is no object. Once again, the doctor says that the chances of recovery are remote. “Not if my blood is in her veins,” says Vic [and she is in a telenovela where people sometimes even come back from the dead.] Vic warns the doc that if he thought Estefi was dangerous, he doesn’t know dangerous. The doc replies that he will get a room with intensive care for Greta. If the pregnancy goes to term, no one will notice her belly under those conditions.

Estefi retreats to her doll room. López is watching. She says that she feels so alone. Her daughter is leaving her and she feels like she is leaving, too. In comes López. He says that he is very sorry. Not as sorry as others will be, replies Estefi. She will fight for her daughter by making those who caused her condition pay. López says that she can count on him. She says that the first is Dr. Matheson (so that’s the name of the evil doctor).

Reina goes home to find Asunción rummaging through Greta’s stuff. Apparently Reina called her and told her what Greta told her. Asunción found nothing. Reina tells Asunción that she has 24 hours to find the proof or she will be killed. She flops on her bed and laments that she just can’t take any more - so much pain and tragedy. Why can’t she have one day of peace like a normal person? She thinks that the curse of the red diamond might be true.

Police station-
Christián fondles the red diamond and wonders if Connie is happy or sad. Is she sad they didn’t marry or is she happy with Isidro?

Room somewhere-
Connie is definitely not happy. She is tied to the bedstead and gagged. Isidro takes off the gag. He says that she forced him to do this. He couldn’t let her marry that idiot. He loves her. The scene is intercut with scenes of Christián saying that he loves Connie. Then a policeman comes in to say that they have found him, presumably Isidro.

Hospital-
Laz is in despair. Dr. Moto shows up. He says that he feels dead. He’s lost Greta and his baby. Dr. Moto says encouraging things but Laz isn’t buying. Finally, she says that she is there for him as a doctor and as a friend if he needs her. Laz leaves. Vic comes in and says that Dr. Moto should go for Laz. They make a nice couple.

CIA Headquarters-
FELS tells Navier that Esmeeth will get the proofs that he needs but under one condition. He wants Navier back. He has to come and get the proofs. Esmeeth freaks out and says that FELS is driving her crazy. He replies that he only wants to get one of his best agents back. FELS gets a call. A body of a woman was found in a freezer when the power went out and the neighbors smelled the decomp. The body has the mark of the diamond on the neck.

Susana’s place-
Juanjo comforts Susana.

 

Viernes - Parte Cuatro

Hospital-
Evil doc is packing up to go home. López knocks him out. In comes Estefi in those incredible tacones that she wears. She tells the unconscious doc that he shouldn’t mess with her or her daughter.

Police Station-
Apparently, the lead on Isidro’s whereabouts was false. Christián chews his officers out.

Room somewhere-
Isidro has brought Connie something to eat. She asks him to untie her. Isidro agrees if she will eat. Impasse.

DeRosas mansion- Victor comes into Greta’s room that Reina has tossed. He asks what is going on. Reina replies that she needs the proofs that will send him to jail for the rest of his life and kill her in a few hours. She tells Victor that before their wedding Greta stole the proofs that would get Reina out the hell of living with him. Victor doesn’t believe it but Reina tells him that Greta herself told her this when she found out that her father didn’t care about her baby. Reina says that the proofs might not exist anymore. Victor asks why she says that the proofs will kill her. “That doesn’t matter,” replies Reina, “especially to you.”

CIA Headquarters-The Dragon’s back!!
Dr. Moto and FELS are looking at the corpse of the woman ambulance guy gave the diamond to, I guess. They say that all they know is that her name is Donna Sanders and she worked in a nightclub. In comes Navier with his red diamond and announces that this woman had the red diamond in her possession before she died. “I’m back,” says Navier. FELS tells Navier that he has given the proofs to Asunción. He knew that Navier would come back. Navier replies that FELS doesn’t need to be a psychic to know that. He is a man of his word. He gives Esmeeth the big red book of Diamond legends. He doesn’t believe in curses and such things but he thinks that the book fell into his hands for a reason. In it, there is a story of a red diamond and a woman with a “cruz orlada,” a “trimmed cross.” Esmeeth notes that the cruz orlada is an ancient pre-Christian symbol. FELS asks Navier if he believes in witchcraft. Javier replies that he doesn’t believe in anything like that. He believes what she sees. He believes that there is mystery that needs to be solved before there is more suffering and killing.

A Room Somewhere- It took me hours to write that letter so you’re going to hear it like it or not
Izzy reads Connie the letter that he wrote. He unties her arm and says that the only man she can marry and that can make her happy is him.

Hospital-
The evil doctor comes to. Estefi comes in. She wants him to see her very well. He asks her not to hurt him. He says that he can help her. He begs her not to kill him. He knows something very important about the pregnancy of her daughter.

Navier’s hideout Reina must know that it’s “Últimas Semanas”
Reina has been brought to Navier’s hideout blindfolded. She gives him the “proof.” She asks if it is always going to be like this with them running around in secret. She says that she thinks the end is near and it’s not going to be very happy. Javier says that their “final,” their ending, hasn’t been written yet. There’s a ways to go. He says that she has to leave. She puts on the blindfold again and they kiss. She leaves with one of Navier’s guys. Boris comes in. Javier tells him that Reina gave him the proofs. Boris tells Navier that he has been thinking that maybe Reina doesn’t need to die. She is young and has a daughter. He pulls a gun. Maybe the one who should die is secret agent Navier, the traitorous bastard.

LOL! That sums it up very well.

Javier had no idea about the curse/legend of the four red diamonds? Apparently not. So much happens in this ‘novela loca that I can’t keep up with it all. I really wish I had started a flow chart when this ‘novela began, except it would probably cover the basement floor, by now.

Izzy kidnapping Connie and refusing to leave her alone has really crossed over into creepy stalker territory. Well, he crossed that line some time ago but, yikes, the man is a bit scary loco. Their theme song remains playful, though, so I wonder what the writers have planned.

”Reina must know that it’s “Últimas Semanas”
Without actually seeing/reading any of the ‘resumenes/avances’ (which is difficult to do!), it looks like Mexico is on episode #120 and it’s not over yet. We got capítulo #80 last night.

I seem to remember that Ultimas Semanas announcements usually begin 6 – 8 weeks before the end. No? Perhaps T'mundo wants this to end around Xmas holidays or New Year's.

(Note to self: Must prepare for Reinamania withdrawals.)

Well, the GOOD NEWS is that a nice five-to-six month long telenovela is very refreshing!!! These 12+ month long telenovelas just drag on too long, IMHO.

Hahaha. Yes. I do feel a little tinge of anticipatory post-Reina tristesse, pero por otro lado, as Doris says, a tidy, fast-paced story of 4-6 months would not be a bad thing. If we get 4-8 weeks to wrap it all up, I'll be happy.

I do so want to see The Dragon Family get their happily ever after, but in this novela loca, all bets are off.

BTW, was Gregorio wearing the same shirt yesterday that he wore in the flashback with Estefi 9 years ago?

The meal that Izzy brought Connie was the traditional Burger & Fries of reconciliation. She scoffed that he didn't even cook it himself. He protests that he bought it with love. (These details just crack me up. I'm really very shallow.)

Poor Greta. This would be the second time she's in a coma. The first being after her accident. I hope Doc tells Estefy about the pregnacny and how Victor wants to keept it a secret. Maybe then Estefy will finally quit helping and saving Victor.

Izzy has definitely gone into creepy stalker mode. I did not like seeing Connie tied to a bed and gagged. Christian came off as creepy when he was saying how Connie is his.

I thought it was funny how Connie said the other day that cops don't steal. Next she'll say that politicians don't lie.

Can't wait until Monday!
 

Loved the recap, Jean! Especially liked "Looks like Vic is in the stealing babies business again."

They sure did lay on the cliffhangers last night. Will Doctor Corrupto spill the beans about Victor's plan to keep Greta's pregnancy a secret and, presumably, send the kid to an orphanage for having sangre de peones?

And, kind of a false cliffhanger: Boris points a gun at Navier, somehow having found out he's with the CIA. We know dern well our hero isn't going to die. Boris probably found out because the increasingly unlikeable FELS/PELS insisted on his returning to CIA HQ and Boris probably followed him.

I must have been zipping through commercials on the DVR recording too quickly. I didn't even notice Últimas Semanas. I'm down with it being a short one, but have my fingers crossed they'll show all of it.
 

Thanks, all. I also hope that having gotten this far, they will show all of the rest of the episodes. This was capitulo 80 and the latest ones on site with the Mexican episodes is 125 so if that were the total, there would be 45 episodes left or 2 months + 1 week give or take. I haven't seen any teasers for a replacement either.

I had totally forgotten about the hamburger and fries of reconciliation. It is funny how the writers put these little things in again and again.

I will be following the recaps next week even if I can't watch the broadcast. I can't wait.
 

Ultimas Semanas was announced on the preview. The voice over didn't actually announce it though. It just appeared on the screen along with the title at the end of the preview.
 

Wiki lists there are 140 in total. That would be 60 episodes left if 140 is the total number of episodes.

in the you-can't-always-believe-what-you-read-on-the-internet department, wiki now shows the original run on Gala to be 140 shows.

also the "Tierra de Reyes" page shows it will follow Reina, (2015) but Telemundo seems to be pretty mum about this one, although I did notice they started applying for permits to film this in Miami about 3 weeks ago.

Thanks deb. You and Mauricio agree so it must be true! If they haven't even starting filming the replacement yet, I think we're good for the remaining 60 episodes.At least I hope so. I'm good with a novela that is 140 episodes. That is perfect.

Re-make of Pasión de Gavilanes? I didn't see the original, but I did see Fuego en la Sangre.

One of the reasons I've liked Telemundo more than Univisión over the years is because of original stories. So why are they doing a third time around?

I know that En Otra Piel was a re-make of El Cuerpo del Deseo, but they certainly changed a lot! And they don't do them often.
 

It will be interesting to see the Telemundo remake of Pasión de Gavilanes. PdG, the original, is one of my favorite novelas. It had a great ensemble of characters and avoided novela cliches. It will be interesting to see what they do with the remake. There were certain issues with the plot of PdG that were strange because it was a remake of a much older novela called Las Aguas Mansas and reflected some of the older social mores of that novela.

I am not pleased at PELS/FELS being the brother. Especially since Estefy is setting up Esmeeth.
