TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: TIERRA DE REYES, DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO, etc. week of March 23, 2015

This page is for all things Telemundo except for comments on Los Miserables, which can be directed here.  As you may know, Los Mis ends Tuesday, March 24.

Dueños del Paraíso is in its final weeks.  Given the time the writers have devoted to developing several characters, each with a sustantial plot line unlikely to be resolved in a few weeks, it seems likely that we are seeing the first of two or more seasons of this Super Series.  I wonder what kind of a role Kate will have in future stories.  Not a central one, I bet.  There’s got to be a reason they named it Dueños and not La Reina, La Dueña or La Señora del Paraíso.

On Wednesday, March 25, La Biblia will be shown in the 8pm/7C slot.  Then Avenida Brasil will get that timeslot, beginning Monday, April 6.

Enjoy your week!

TIERRA

Okay, so I've just caught up on three weeks' worth of shows, so my comments might not be super up to date, but anyhoodle...

Wouldn't have expected that I would come to like Dario so much, but he is cracking me up now! I love that he and Flavio have become friends. I also love that when Irina tried to convince Dario that Flavio had sexually assaulted her (well, he DID face attack her, but she quickly got into it), and Flavio denied it, Dario just oh-so-calmly was like "I'll just have a look at the security video" and he pulled it up and saw them madly making out and was all "NICE!" and fanned himself. Too funny. I liked that he was smart enough to just check into it instead of getting sucked into picking sides in their stupid fight.

Did I miss something? Can anyone explain to me why Veronica and Pablo were so resigned to her having to let her fiance smooch all over her and take her off to London? Why didn't she just break up with him? It was so weird to me how they were both all "oh, well, what can you do?" about the situation. I mean, I did like that Pablo didn't have a fit and call her a slut and break up for thirty episodes when Skeevy Fiance arrived, but didn't understand their attitude about it. Are they terrified her mother will cut her off and he will lose his job? Because honestly, that doesn't sound so bad. They could both be set free. I bet Beatriz would hire them both.

Also, why in heck does Leo care that they're dating? Is he so reflexively evil that he can't resist tormenting people whenever he sees the opportunity, for no reason? Does he think this is good enough to blackmail them into anything? Why do they put up with him? Why did Pablo basically stand there and let Leo beat him up? I can't believe Pablo couldn't have flattened Leo in half a second if he wanted to. He does hard physical labor all day.

The dJ girls are aggravating. Especially Sofia. She finds all this evidence that the dudes really did have much reason to be aggrieved...yet she still refuses to be even a little understanding. And would a guy who only seduced her for revenge be so over the moon about having a child with her? Or be begging her to take him back? If it were still about revenge, wouldn't he have taken a payoff from her mama and cackled his way into the sunset?

I watched so many episodes in a row that I can't remember specifically what happened in the last one. I don't know...basically where we are is that Veronica surprised Pablo by not heading off to London after all, Sam is marrying Nena imminently, Veronica convinced Flavio to try out being a model, Lucia's family is still grief-stricken, Sofia collected her things from the apartment and Arturo tried to give her the baby onesie that says "Arturo" on it and she didn't want it, Cayetana is being a raging witch and also having vapors probably just to control her family, Leo makes me want to throw sharp things at him, and Andrea is lusting mightily after Sam and not happy that he's marrying Nena. I can't remember if there are any new developments in the death investigations. Soledad is hanging around Nena's being a useless sadsack, ostensibly as her personal assistent. Would someone please just tell Veronica she is Soledad's daughter and the boys' half sister?

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 1 de 3

HERMOSILLO, FLORIDA

While Riquelme and Silvana peruse the map of the area, Marcelo finishes off Elias with several handgun shots and a couple of blasts with a shotgun! ¡A ver se por fin te mueres! And they cart the corpse off before Riquelme and Silvana can trace the source of the shots.

CASA CARDONA

We return to Sleazoid Sergio talking with Anastasia and Renato. Anas wonders how they’ll make Cleopatra with the budget they have. Sergio waves that off and, with his hands apart demonstrating the guy's "attributes", he talks up Harry Whozit, the Spartacus of this magnum opus. Carmen is there as well, and both she and Sergio say that, while Érika is terrific in the films, Conrado is a bad influence.

HERMOSILLO, FLORIDA

Riquelme and Silvana drive in to the house of the Pajaritos. Teresa does a great job of misdirection, saying they make something there responsible for the odd smells. Silvana tries to get into the barn or warehouse, but Teresa doesn’t allow them. Riquelme says they’d need a search warrant.

CASA QUEZADA

Paola is walking José Carlos out to his car. She’s suspicious of his wanting to be in the narco trade. She says he’s a trained agronomist. When she keeps insisting, he tells her to watch out in case the paisa comes out of him!

CASA CARDONA

Renato tries to comfort Anas when she’s downcast about Conrado spending the night with Érika. He tells her it was to be expected. Conrado had a long relationship with Érika. Just then Conrado arrives, jubilant over the arrival today of the drugs sent by Linda Barragán. He senses the chill in the air. Anas comes right out with it: “You spent the night with Érika.”

CASA QUEZADA

We get a very interesting scene with Iggy and Leandro Quezada. LQ tells him he’s fed up to the back teeth with him. Iggy has an expression on his face like a sulky, jealous child. He asks if LQ is seriously considering giving JC a chance. Iggy goes on to say what a great employee he is [not really needing to mention his sterling qualities as a sociopath]. Leandro asks if he wants him to draw up a pro and con list on a tablet! LQ says this would show few successes and lots of failures. Iggy, having the spidey sense of a person with no heart, tells LQ that José Carlos has something up his sleeve.

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 2 de 3

LQ gets angry, as he always does when anyone dares to question his judgment. He tells Iggy the empire is his and he doesn’t have to ask permission of anyone to put his son in charge. Iggy scornfully reminds him that LQ himself told him that JC is adopted. In classic telenovela fashion Paola overhears this.

CASA CONRADO

Conrado, caught out, tells Anastasia the so-lame tale that he was waiting for the right moment to tell her that he slept with Érika. But nothing happened! [If nothing happened, it was only because Sergio and Carmen interrupted his efforts to seduce Érika.] Conrado tells her that what’s important is that they’re happy together. She apparently buys this, letting him kiss her. Renato looks through a window as he’s leaving and is disgusted.

CASA QUEZADA

LQ tells Paola that, yes, José Carlos was adopted. Her mother didn’t want the boy to know the truth, saying it would traumatize him. Paola gets her back up. “So it’s all my mother’s fault?” The way this scene ends is that Paola doesn’t believe the adoption story any more than her brother did. I’m starting to think they’re right. That LQ is making the whole thing up to cover the fact that he didn’t love his male child.

MIAMI GYM

LQ has sent Gina to find José Carlos at the gym where he works out. It looks like JC is attracted to her. Gina tells him that his father said that his first job is to get back Gina’s child from Anastasia.

MIAMI POLICE STATION

Alejo is cooling his heels in an interrogation room. Benavides comes in and wordlessly gives him a tray with a soft drink and a sandwich. Underneath the soda can is a note: “Your wife went to Chile with your children.” Ferrara brings in Ronnie Zamora the Cuban small-time dealer. Ferrara once again spits on the US Constitution. He hasn’t allowed Alejo to see any lawyer after Riquelme tells him Elias is missing. He beats on Ronnie, twists his arm, and the guy folds like a deck of cards. He says he knows Alejo from his dealing coke and marijuana at the beach. Alejo spits in his face. [Looks like Alejo was right in wanting to kill Ronnie when they kidnapped him before.]

SANTIAGO DE CHILE

We see Analía strolling through Gerardo Casanegra’s beautiful property with Casanegra. When they sit down at a table, he tells her he only agreed to see her because he’s a gentleman, and that he wasn’t exactly dying to see her. She tells him she made a big mistake. She never stopped caring for him and asks him to forgive her. [I think she’s looking for a meal ticket.] She ends up telling him that Tomás, her elder child, is actually his! This plan did not work very well. Casanega: “So, you came to Chile to tell me this?”” Analía: “I came so you’d forgive me and trust me again.” Casanegra just gets up and tells her he’s arranged for a chauffeur to take her back home and then leaves with Jorge.

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 3 de 3

CASA ROMERO

Verónica comes home and finds Érika and Adán embracing on the patio. It looks like a pretty tame hug to me. But Vero erupts. “Leave my husband alone!” [Vero, this is the husband you’ve told repeatedly that you want a divorce!] She says awful things to Érika and later tells Adán that he has been deceiving her. [Like she wasn’t deceiving him with David Costa! Not sexually, but emotionally.] She does say that she senses he’s hiding something again, which he is: Linda Barragán!

MIAMI POLICE STATION

Ferrara insults Riquelme and tells him to lay off Silvana until the case is over. After he leaves, Riquelme says he can’t stand the gallego pesimo. So Ferrara is now completely without allies in the Miami police.

CONRADO WAREHOUSE

Renato and Conrado “chat” in the warehouse. Conrado asks what happened to Elias. Renato: “Why don’t you ask your girlfriend?” Conrado tells Renato that he’s mistaken if he thinks he, Conrado, is suffering because Renato doesn’t like him. Renato: “If you make Anastasia suffer, I’ll kill you.”

Irene arrives with Bob Venegas, who’s come for some payment. Conrado asks Irene to help him smooth things over with Anastasia, trying out that charm on Irene, saying he’s her ideal son-in-law. Irene: “No. No eres mi yerno ideal. No me caes bien. No creo que seas el hombre para mi hija.” [And in this much at least Irene and I are in complete agreement!]

Irene goes into Anas’ office. Hearing she’s come with Bob, Anas sarcastically congratulates her for having broken her own record. Her lovers usually last two hours, and Bob has lasted longer than that! Hearing that her mother spoke with Conrado, Anas can’t resist asking what he said. Irene pours herself a drink and tells her child that, if she were her, she’d be very jealous of Érika.

At this moment the scene changes to a scene in Sergio’s new movie. We see Érika looking terrific as Cleopatra.

Back to Irene. She says: “Would you like some advice?” Anas, sarcastically: “Do I have a choice?” Irene tells her it would be difficult to compete with Érika. If it were her, she’d forget about Conrado and get another guy. She says Érika is always going to be there in his mind. After all, he married Érika. [Wow, that’s gotta sting. Some mother!] Irene tells her there’s two ways to go with this. The first is to settle for being the woman on the side and the other is something more drastic. Kill Érika and thus end up with Conrado!

terrific recap novelera!

I think Riquelme would have at least discovered the Pajaritos,
(who's whistling music has disappeared)
if he didn't have to keep putting Silvana back in the car.

and poor Elias did a nose dive into the lye, clothes and all.

(if anyone ever mentions a blood bath I'll be thinking of him)

I agree, Analia is looking for some financial security,
(was dna testing available around then?)

was Alejo chewing on his note when they brought Ronnie in,
I forgot Elias was his lawyer,
poor guy.

is there a word in the English language that describes Irene?

Tierra
Thanks, Julia (and Sneaky two shoes)for the updates.
Last night's episode was more of the same. Here are some highlights from memory.

For some reason, Verónica was staying overnight at the Junco rancho. She sneaks into Pablo's (very large for a staff member's) room for some nookie. Rocio comes in the next morning while they are sleeping. Rocio drops a dime on Miranda who surprises the happy couple with predictable results. So far, Miranda hasn't disclosed what happened to Caye or anyone in the house.

Andrea goes to Nena's bank where Samuel is working and demands that all her family's assets be withdrawn from the bank. She behaves like an three-year old having a tantrum when Samuel tells her that there would be a penalty and loss of interest if the bonds where the money is invested were liquidated and besides she needs her mother's signature.

Flavio has quit the spa after Miranda did one of her performances. Previously someone, I don't remember who, suggested that Flavio do some modelling. In Monday's episode, Irina gets a call about a modelling job for a perfume ad so we can see where this is going. This also parallels the "Indian Savage" perfume ad story from Pasión de Gavilanes.

The loathsome Isadora plants a kiss on Arturo, which is witnessed by Sofia. Arturo tries to explain that he didn't solicit the kiss but Sofia won't listen.

Even so, Sofia is still mooning over Arturo and Leo suggests to Caye that the only way for her to get over Arturo is to take her away somewhere. When Caye says that she can't order Sofia to go, Leo suggests that Caye pretend to be sick again.

That's what I can remember. No capítulo tomorrow. It's pre-empted by the finale of Los Mis.

Another terrific recap, novelera. Many thanks!

Well, my prediction record remains just about perfect: what I predict will almost never turn out to be the case. IIRC, in my last posting, I predicted that Elias would not be killed by the pajaritos and that Riquelme and Silvana would arrive to save him Just in Time. Oh well....

Novelera, I can't tell whether you were sincere or snarky when you said that Erika looked terrific as Cleopatra. If you were sincere, I guess we simply disagree: I thought she looked wooden and amateurish.

Deb, I am pretty sure that dna testing wasn't available in the 1970s.

NovelaMaven, I found your speculation about sequel(s) to Dueños somewhat persuasive, but I hope you're wrong. I find I don't care enough about any of the characters to want the story to continue for another season or two.

Tierra
Thanks Jean, Sneaky Two Shoes and Julia. I love this show and I enjoy reading the comments you guys post.

DUENOS:

Super recap, Novelera! I especially appreciate the little Spanish quotes you sprinkle in.

I, too was wrong about Elias. It made sense that he would not escape. But it didn't make too much sense that Riquelme and Silvana would end up at the exact factory where the bodies are disposed of!

Conrado keeps having narrow escapes, making Erica think he's still with her, and Anas think he has nothing to do with Erica. It can't last forever.

I don't think Analia is going to give up with Gerardo, and I think he's going to eventually fall for her. She's attractive, manipulative, and determined.

I can see why Jose Carlos (and everyone else) likes Gina. She's astoundingly beautiful to me (like Miss America beautiful). But is there any chance she'll really come out of this alive and well?

The actor who plays Ferrara is really doing a great job. So different from his last role as the honorable Oleg.

I bet Alejo found that note from
Saul "tough to swallow".

Kate Del Castillo is in this new TN too?

She hasn't been in a Televisa TN for awhile!

Dueños

When putting in Spanish phrases, I should proofread better. I should have said: ¡A ver si por fin te mueres!, not se por fin

I was surprised Elias was finished off as well. But, thinking it through, Renato would have been arrested for shooting him. And I don't want Renato arrested!

Juanita, I didn't take note of Érika's acting in the Cleopatra scene. I thought that the point of the writers in interjecting that scene was that it was just after Irene had said it would be hard for Anas to compete. And Ximena Duque looked fabulous in her wig, costume and makeup!

Yes, Gina is gorgeous. She's also in Sr. Avila on HBO Latino. In that one she's a brunette and she and Tony Dalton get it on in the bathrooms of the place where they both work. Since it's HBO, pretty hot scenes!

I agree, Hombre, about Alberto Jiménez doing a great job as Ferrara. He's like a relentless force of nature.

Dueños

Tks so much Novelera, fantastic as always.

Kate jumped ship & left televisa for telemundo, as several have, like Pedro Fernandez. Supposedly he was ill , the reason for leaving Hasta el fin del Mundo, but he is now on La voz kids on telemundo.
I think Silvia Navarro should leave televisa also.
On the whole I think Telemundo TNs are better. At least we don't have to put up with Los Mejia, !gracias a Dios!

Dueños
Ja, ja Novelera, we sure don't our dear sweet Renato to come to some bad end, he is a good, bad guy.

I guess there is no way Elias can climb out of that vat of lye. QEPD, I didn't want to lose him either or
JCQ, they have grown on me. Iggy must go by the worse means possible.

Tierra
Wow Julia & Jean
I feel like I hit the jackpot!

Julia - no idea why Vero is planning to dump Pablo for the novio except maybe because he's a count or something
Yes Leo is just that evil and I think Pablo thinks Leo will hurt Vero if he fights back but maybe I'm just projecting -
I think Leo will try to hurt Vero

Wait wait wait Flavio a model?
are they going to cut his hair and make him shave?

oooh Rocio just lost my sympathy, ratting out Vero & Pablo is so low. If she really loved Pablo as much as she seems to think she wouldn't expose him to Miranda's revenge like that.

So if Flavio has quit the spa does that mean we don't get to see him & Dario together anymore? I was really starting to like their odd couple thing.

TIERRA

What?!?! A haircut and shave for Flavio?! Don't you know the Geico caveman ad look is in?

I do hope he changes up his look. Flavio is a good looking guy, but he's currently a little too unkempt for my tastes. And I LOVE the way he and Dario eventually hit it off! I hope he will keep working there. Miranda should be banned. Also she should be sent to finishing school, or maybe starting school and then finishing school. For someone who thinks she's so classy, she has absolutely no manners. I suspect hers is a case of compensation snobbery. Surely not many people who are really upper class and secure about their status feel the need to obsess about status as much as she does.

Rocio is a rat. Maybe she should get together with Arturo; they have similar ideas in stupid misguided revenge schemes.

TIERRA

Also, I'm having trouble at the moment imagining how Samuel is ever going to want to go from a sweet, selfless, loving woman like Nena to a shrew like Andrea, age be damned. Although I guess he did date Patricia, so maybe he gets off on abuse and childishness.

Dueños
Novelera, I've been struck many times during this telenovela with how gorgeous Ximena Duque is, but for some reason I didn't find her so during the Cleopatra scene. Perhaps my lack of enthusiasm for her "acting" colored the way I saw her.

BTW, I meant to say earlier that I very much appreciated your including those Spanish words and phrases in your recap.

Dueños del Paraíso...epi 51, Tuesday
part 1

from the earlier show, Irene plants the seed in Anas,
either be content as Conrado's lover, or get rid of Erica.
Anas accuses her of being drunk,
well don't kids and drunks always tell the truth, Irene replies,
as she pours another.

Conrado walks in, the coca arrived safely.

Vero is suspicious of Adan, what are you hiding?
but there is a call from the school, Lu is in trouble again,
and it's off to the principals office for Adan and Vero,
Lu has been fighting and a girl's been hurt
(is this the girl that fell off the ladder)
Daytona was a witness,
and congratulations them on being grandparents, oops (not really)
the principals eyes go wide.

Chile- Analia is waiting by the phone,
sure that Gerardo will want to see the kids,
her mother pulls her away for a martini,
ring, ring, but it's Alejo from jail,
I can't hear you Analia says,
how could you do this, he asks,
take care, bye, Analia hangs up. (how did he know, she wonders)

Alejo talks the guard into making another call,
his sister (the stewardess) has arrived home (Chile) with a small over night bag full of money,
is that Jorge waiting for her,
the clothes come off as the phone rings away.

not again, as Analia's phone rings,
but it's Gerardo, he invites her and her mother to the Club,
what club she wonders, maybe GiGi's, her mother is estatic.

at casa Quezada, Gina and JC have a drink and a quiet talk about getting back her son,
JC wonders if Anas is even more powerful than he thought,
things heat up when Iggy and Paola walk in,
but then Leandro arrives, he's hungry.
they talk about Paola's wedding,
JC and Iggy are at odds, Leandro sends the kids off,
while he, Gina, and JC talk about baby snatching,
I think Anas is taking Rodrigo to the doctors tomorrow.

Conrado rings up Adan, the drugs arrived safely, Anas is throwing a party,
you have to come, as he snorts a line of coke off the desk,
Adan returns to his family dinner, Delia, Vero, Lu and Chad,
Vero is still bitching at Adan, Delia wants to know what's her problem,
they go off and Vero asks Adan again, what happened in Colombia,
Adan remembers his night with Linda, but says nothing,
(I guess he's not worried about killing that guy)
she wants to separate.

Renato calls Anas,
news,
Iggy and Paola are getting married in a church in Kendal next week ??

Iggy and Paola have gone back to her bedroom to get an early start on the honey moon,
Iggy pulls off her top,
she reaches into his pants and pulls out his gun, and puts it on the table,
he gets hot but she stops him,
she gets hot and he stops, seeing the family pic with JC,
but I think they finally get to it.

Dueños del Paraíso... epi 51, Tuesday
part 2

at the cop shop Ferrara is barking instructions to the gang when along comes the mayor,
I want arrests, I want detentions, I give you one week,
or what, Ferrara asks,
"or I cut your head off", Mayor Milligan says.

and then there was the 'Party' at the Anas mansion,

Bob and Irene arrive,
he greets her as hija, Anas corrects him and adds she didn't invite him,
Irene goes for the booze, Bob lays out a line of coke,
Anas prods Renato into going over and getting Irene to behave herself, good luck with that.

next to arrive is Sergio and company,
Erica heads for Conrado,
Anas sits back and watches,
he wants her out of the film business,
she doesn't want any trouble, and leaves,

Adan comes up and tries to calm him down,
she is my mujer, Conrado says,

and in walks Linda Barragán, wow.
alone they talk, she asks Adan about his wife,
she has thought about him, he about her,
Medellin is Medellin, she doesn't want to complicate things for him here,
but she was wondering if they could have another round.

Bob is inside as Erica walks by, I know you,
"Sugar Lips"
oh, you've seen the film, Erica is ecstatic to know someone has seen it,
and recognizes her,
she offers her autograph, to my first fan,
he asks for a kiss,
she leans in for a peck, he goes for her lips,
and Irene, who has just walked in, looks like she might go for a throat.

Silvana swings by the Cleaners farm for a look,
her car noises interrupt the Pajaritos who are saying grace before their meal,
she sneaks into the barn for a look around,
Marcelo goes out for a look,
and in the desk, she finds Elias' watch....

Dueños
Thanks, deb, for a terrific and speedy recap. (I hope you live on the West Coast, since the time stamp on your recap was a bit after 4 a.m. eastern time. Though even 1 a.m. pacific time shows wonderful dedication (or perhaps insomnia?). Anyway, muchas gracias.

Wow, Daytona continues to be a perra of the first order (Congrats abuelos, oops).

My favorite line in the recap was probably "he goes for her lips,
and Irene, who has just walked in, looks like she might go for a throat." I fear that Irene may start pushing Anas more strongly toward Irene's suggested option #2. Cuidado, Erika (or should that be cuidada?).

DUENOS:

Thank for a wonderfully entertaining recap, Deb!

Alejo's sister is named Vanessa. Interesting that she's Jorge's lover. This could be bad for Analia, if Alejo reaches Vanessa by phone. But there are lots of possibilities.

I'm not liking Veronica so much these days, although she is right, Adan has been unfaithful, she hasn't, maybe he should move out (she doesn't know with whom).

So now we have Conrado doing coke, and Irene, maybe Erica. That leaves Anas, Adan and Renato (well, of course Veronica) as the ones still thinking straight. Sort of. I think Anas and Adan will end up doing drugs, too, and it'll contribute to their downfall.

Ferrara still has pretty much nothing, since Analia is the one who talked, and she's in Chile, unavailable for testimony. But maybe Silvana's discovery will be the tip of the iceberg.

Silvana has no fear.

Dueños

Novelera and Deb, thanks for terrific recaps. I’m all caught up.

Vero has impeccable timing. Just as Linda arrives from Colombia, Vero kicks Adán out of the house “for a couple of days.” Oh well, can’t go home so might as well go for Round 2 with Linda. While Vero is getting on my nerves – get a divorce already! – I can understand how hard it is to make the leap from saying it to doing it after all those years of marriage. But Vero needs to move on. Getting a job would help her. I also want to see her make up with Érika. The things she said to her were just stupid and I think she knows it.

In the end, I’m still rooting for Anas. I think she has too much class to have Érika killed just because Conrado is still in love with her. Of course, Anas ordered a newborn’s mother killed, so I admit what I just said makes no sense, but that’s how I feel.

How rash was Conrado whispering openly at the party to Adán that Érika is still his woman? I kept wondering if Anas and Renato overheard this.

Poor Silvana. If only Ferrara would take her seriously.

Dueños

thanks guys!
a couple of little things,

I think Analia is out on bail, and Ferrara looked upset that she skipped.

and I think Erica's contract says something about doing what the director says,
and Sergio wants her naked.

Dueños

Thanks so much, Deb, Love your blank verse style of telling what happened!

Quezada demonstrated a tiny, tiny bit of heart when he told José Carlos to be careful about the way he snatches Rodrigo. The wrong way could cause the baby to be shot in the crossfire.

I cracked up when Mayor Milligan told Ferrara to speak English. This is America! How many times have I thought that with Telemundo's novelas that have taken place in Miami, New York, and Los Angeles. And everywhere the cast goes the police officers and everyone else all speak Spanish.

Hombre, I'm relieved that you, Vero's main fan, is not liking her so much. I don't like the Dog in the Manger act. If you want a divorce, then don't throw a hissy fit if he hugs a friend. And, as far as we've seen, Erika is completely innocent of putting any moves on Adán. Very early on she gave him a speculative look when he had his shirt off. But I might do the same!

Conrado is SUCH a jerk. On top of treating Erika like property while he lives, and sleeps, with another woman, now he's doing coke. Remember how self-righteous he was about yerba being natural, while cocaine was a bad, manufactured thing?

I kept hoping Vero would soften because Adán really loves her, but I'm agreeing with Niecie. She needs to get a job and move on. Linda seems like she'd be perfect for Adán. She's a really nice person and not judgmental like Vero.

Dueños

I can't recap tomorrow night, Thursday, but I volunteer to do Friday.

TIERRAS

Okay, after watching Monday's episode, I think that at least half of Pablo's problems could be alleviated if he locked his door. Everyone just walks in there like they own the place! And the rest of his problems would be solved if he got a reference letter from Sofia and found a job someplace else and took Veronica with him.

I don't know why they all act like he's some penniless peon. A good ranch manager can make a very decent living. Maybe not del Junco money, but a solid middle-class living. At least they can if they get away from this backward classist community and into the normal world. He needs to get the heck away from this bunch. It's starting to seem like they use "you're like a brother to us; Dad was like a father to you, too" to Pablo to manipulate him so they can keep him around and continue to treat him like dirt. Because clearly he is NOT viewed as a member of the family if he's taking this much abuse from everyone around them. And if Ignacio really saw him as a son, wouldn't Pablo have inherited some of the ranch, too? Empty sentiment if it isn't followed up with real action.

These people should start filming Miranda's tirades and post them on YouTube. Let everyone see how classy she is.

I loved when Dario called Irina out on her behavior. When did he become The Voice of Reason? I love it.

I also liked that when Cowetana saw the "Arturo" onesie and ranted that she WILL NOT ALLOW her grandson to have that name, Sofia said that is HER decision, not her mother's! Although apparently Caye wants the baby named after Ignacio and it looks like Sofia is going to go along with that. Hey, I have an idea. Why don't you give the poor child his own name, instead of giving him the name of someone else with all sorts of connotations and difficult history for everyone around him? Why must you use your child's naming as a political tool or punishment or reward for others? Sheesh. Give him a name you like that is after no one you know. Much better.

TIERRA

The more I think about it, the more annoyed I get about Pablo's situation, especially the way the del Junco family treats him. "You're like a brother to us! Dad loved you like one of his own! But you get to work hard all day and live in the employee shed (actually those rooms look nice, but still) and not have any spending money while we live it up in the big house and work when we feel like it and get big allowances. Also you don't get to sit at the dinner table with us (well, no loss there...) and we will let Leo, who is not even a member of the family anymore, live in the nice house and torment you. Yes, Conrado said it at least twice, something like "What I have with Erika has nothing to do with what I have with Anastasia" (or the other way around. What?! Is he on drugs??? Oh yeah, he is.

I'm going to try to recap tonight's show and Thursday night's show, since Novelera has volunteered to do Friday's show.

Thank you deb. I kept getting a page not found message. :(

I like your analysis of the Pedro situation, Julia. I'm annoyed by it too.

I want him to go work for Beatriz. I want for Pedro and Arturo to build up a super successful ranch that rivals the Del Junk-o ranch. And I want Leo to fall into a giant pile of horse dung.

DUEÑOS, Miércoles

Silvana is shocked to discover Elias’s watch, which says “from your sister”, in a bin at the warehouse! She puts it in her back pocket, and in a daze, wanders into the next room. A woman’s body is hanging from the ceiling! And here comes Marcelo, who stabs Silvana just below the neck! She stumbles and falls to the floor, bleeding, pleading for her life. Marcelo pulls his gun, but he can’t make himself shoot. Teresa yells, kill him! He can’t shoot such a pretty girl, why don’t YOU do it? Well, she doesn’t do these things, and after all, he’s the man.

At the party at Anas’s, to celebrate the arrival of the coke shipment, Érica has given Bob her autograph, and when he went to kiss her on the lips, she pushes him away. But Irene doesn’t see it that way. She thinks Érica’s trying to steal her man! She calls Érica a slut, says she’s known girls like her, tall, thin, young, man-stealers. Érica keeps trying to say that nothing happened, but Irene’s a little drunk (and coked up), and proceeds to attack Érica, throwing her to the ground, pulling her hair. Anas arrives to separate the two, and is quite angry at her Mom.

Linda is still hoping to get it on with Adán, and he sort of wants to, but for now, he pulls back. Conrado’s a mess, stoned and drunk, he proposes a toast, with a bit of irony. At one point Sergio and he get into a spat, Sergio hits him, and Conrado falls to the ground.

Adán calls home to see if everything’s okay. It’s not. Delia has continued insulting Verónica, saying it’s her fault that Adán left. BTW, he’s told everyone he’s leaving for a few days, to give Vero time to cool down. Vero is not cooling down. Lu is also berating her Mom for causing Daddy to leave. Later, Delia discovers Chad and Lu have sex in Lu’s bed, and the yelling starts again. Lu reveal that what’s the harm, she and Chad having been having relations for a while, and she’s expecting his baby! Delia just about faints. When she recovers, she REALLY gives it to Vero, it’s all her fault, and Vero snaps, smashing a glass. This is when Adán called. He asks to speak to
Chad. Chad, don’t tell anyone, but I DO want you to work for me. Meet me at the office.

Back at the party, Érica gets consoled by Adán, and she’s also consoling him. She then tells Adán she knows that he really wants to kiss her. She knows. We know, too, but Adán doesn’t admit it. Yet.

Érica has to wake up early for her porno queen duties. She first goes to a screening of Sugar Lips, and all the fans adore her. She’s eating this up, it’s great. Then she poses for some stills in her Cleopatra costume. Still fun. Sergio says we need some nudes. Hmmm, not so much fun.

DUEÑOS, Part 2

At the police station, Rita tells Riquelme she knows he has a thing for Silvana, don’t deny it. Riquelme’s silence speaks volumes, as he mentally recalls kissing Silvie. He’s got to save her. He and Saul get in Riquelme’s car, go to where Silvana might be, the Parjarito’s warehouse. Inside, it’s been a long night, Silvana’s bloody and maybe lifeless body is lying in the corner, but the guys are late as usual, and they haven’t dumped her into the vat of lye. They pick her up, but she’s alive, starts struggling. At this very moment, Riquelme is clambering into the warehouse, Saul still in the car. He hears the struggling, bursts in, gun drawn. Marcelo shoots him twice, and he goes down. Marcelo is just about to kill Silvana when Saul bursts in, nobody move! Marcelo goes to shoot him, Riquelme, from the ground, kicks him, Saul shoots one worker dead and wounds Marcelo. It’s all over. Silvana is saved and despite her neck wound, hugs Riquelme, lying flat. But he’s okay, he was wearing a bullet proof vest!

Saul is the hero, and the department praises him, but he shares the glory with Riquelme. They’ve arrested Marcelo and Teresa, and are keeping them separated, as usual, probably to get Teresa to talk. So far they can’t identify any of the bodies, but Saul finds teeth, that might be able to be used, these wouldn’t dissolve. They actually found teeth and nails, so I guess the victims fought tooth and nail to stay alive :)

José Carlos has his mission, kidnap baby Rodrigo. Gina tells him he’s really brave, does he think he’ll succeed? He says he’s given his word. But if you don’t? Then, he replies, my father will have been right, I’m an idiot. But don’t worry. She says if you get my baby back, I’ll be very, very appreciative, how could I repay you? He leers at her a bit, we’ll think of something.

Anas can’t take the baby to the doctor, she has to meet with her guys, so she has Daisy take him, driven by Olmeda. Conrado definitely couldn’t help, he’s a mess these days. We see the car, driving along, Daisy is holding the baby in her lap, we see her boobs from above, she’s almost nursing him, obviously loves him. Mr. Sensitive Olmeda takes this opportunity to ask her, so you like high heels, huh? Huh? Yeah, I heard you go out at night (are a hooker). How much would you charge me? He asks, with a smile. How DARE you, she spits out, just DRIVE. He had also insulted her country by saying those Colombians (Quezada and crew) started this whole mess, they’re all trash. But SHE’s Colombian. Anyway, all of a sudden, their car is cut off, and screeches to a stop. José Carlos is in the other car, pulls a gun, when Olmeda tries to resist, he shoots him in the leg. He orders Daisy to GET OUT OF THE CAR.

thanks so much Hombre, love your recaps,

much more that Anas' pool parties,
sometimes I think Anas is smarter than all of us,
like bringing all of these people together, to see what happens,
and other times I wonder, what was she thinking?

nice cat fight with Erika and Irene,
Bob seemed to enjoy it as he sipped his drink,
and when Anas kicked him out, he made it as far as the pool side refreshments.

with Conrado manning the BBQ, it looks like no one ate.

and Anas seems to be a believer in you don't use the merc, you sell it.

I see Sergio managed to introduce himself to Linda.

(it seems like the cops call each other by last names)

that Saul is quite the character, sits in the car listening to news and music on the radio while Riquelme snoops around, finds Silvana's car, goes inside and is shot down, but then he steps in when needed, (did he bring his toothpick) saving the day, (I wonder if in his betrayal, he will be looking out for his friend).

so as the cleaning crew gets cleaned up, Ferrara and his boss check things out, yes some tooth and nails, but didn't Silvana see everyone's id's in the desk drawer.

Olmedo didn't seem to shine much as he is pistol whipped to the ground and shot by one guy, JC, but I guess he was distracted by Daisy, who I'm wondering will not give up the baby, and go along, it's only a matter of time before she runs into Iggy again.

Thanks, Hombre. What’s on screen may be gruesome, but your recap is a delight.

Has porno fame gone to Érika’s head? She crossed the line bigtime telling Adán she knows he wanted to kiss her. She's no ho but she is dumb. How does she think she can make porno without some topless publicity shots? Carmen seemed to be hiding her disdain for Érika during the film screening with fans.

Whoa, when Vero snapped, I thought of Mike Tyson snapping and going after Holyfield’s ear. A person can only take so much. First a drug-dealing husband, then a teenaged daughter getting knocked up, and now a mother-in-law who won’t SHUT UP.

That was a strange camera shot of Daisy’s boobs and the baby. I even started wondering if inexplicably Daisy was breastfeeding. Anyhoo, I didn't realize Daisy was Colombian and now I'm wondering if this will help her somehow.

José Carlos could've killed Olmeda but didn't, so I'm sure he's not going to harm Daisy.

Duenos

Haha! Tooth and nail. I like humor mixed in with horror. Lightens things up a bit.

Irene can't possible think that Erica would try to steal Bob. I mean, Bob? Erica, porn star or janitor could still do better than Bob. But she does seem interested enough in the fame to cross the line that she's been holding to so far. I'll be a little sad for her if she does, but her acting (actual acting) career is probably dead at this point, so why not. Plus it has the added benefit of annoying Conrado.

I approve of Vero laying into the her MIL, but now she needs to set her daughter straight. She's a pregnant teenager with a teenage boyfriend and a drug-dealing father. She's not going to need her mother? Lu needs to back off of Vero, especially since Vero offered to be the one to leave. She accepts that it's not her house and she's ok with leaving, but Adan didn't give her the chance. Hope it gives her the change to have a come-to-Jesus talk with Lu about what her situation really is.

Another action packed episode, Hombre. You recap those SO well!

I got a kick out of the Pajaritos saying grace with, if I remember correctly, their children before lunch.

I despise Sergio, but cheered him on for the first time when he punched out the increasingly disgusting Conrado.

Fought tooth and nail, eh? Good one, Hombre!

Deb, thanks for remembering that Silvana found a bunch of ID's.

Rita is not exactly thrilled about Riquelme and Silvana. She alluded to their having had something in the past, but he fired back that it didn't work because she didn't want that.

Delia is such a pain. Of course it's not great that Lu is pregnant while still in high school, but, as the grandmother, it's not her place to criticize the parents. I knew Vero was going to blow. She'd already done it once and then walked it back.

I noticed that Ferrara was not best pleased about Riquelme and Saúl having found the Pajaritos' "business". And he got in some kind of dig about them both being there. I guess meaning they should have been following HIS orders.

Irene becomes more despicable every episode. I'm kind of glad Érika is such a key part of the porno gig as Anas may not be so quick to follow her awful mother's advice and have her killed. She's so desperate for a man that she's blind to the fact that the chances of the gorgeous Érika coming on to Toad Bob are slim and none!

And, probably after one or two tequilitas, Irene told all the henchmen about Daisy being a prostitute, embarrassing the poor girl who's doing such a good job as Rodrigo's nanny.

I'm disappointed in Érika. I've been HER biggest fan, but I didn't like her coming on to Adán last night. Maybe the way Vero treated her gave her permission to come out with something she's kept repressed. Plus, she was aghast at the first showing of "Sugar Lips" but was lapping up the attention last night and prepared to sit through the whole thing.

So what was the outcome of Lu's troubles at school? Is she expelled or are they just going to let that plot point die?

DUEÑOS, Jueves

As Olmeda writhes on the ground, José Carlos orders Daisy to leave the baby in the car, and get out. But she won’t. So he just throws Olmeda out of the way, gets in the snazzy white Lincoln, and drives off. After a bit, he stops the car, again orders Daisy out. She reluctantly does, trembling, pleading with him that she’s a good person, she’s holding the baby. He says give him to me, and holds a gun to her head. After some hesitation, she finally gives Rodrigo to JC, who tells her, you open your mouth and you’re dead “Daisy Muñoz” (he knows her name). He drives off, leaving her shaking and weeping.

Paola and Iggy are really getting into their sexual relations, and not only that, when she says are you sure you want to marry me, he says absolutely, I’m gonna be your MAN! I’m not so sure Leandro is as happy. He’s moping with Gina, when in comes José Carlos, proudly holding the baby, mission accomplished! Gina is overwhelmed with joy, as JC gently hands her the baby, she’s finally reunited with him. Leandro is impressed, Iggy not so much. Gina later laments that she can only live in the shadows, she’s still under threat. I think JC wants to change that, too.

Olmeda, limping and bleeding, knocks a guy away from a phone booth, calls in, reaches Irene, and tells her the baby was kidnaped. Irene rushes over to tell Anas, Conrado was just telling her, he’s always been like a kid, but now he’ll be a father, and Anas says he’ll be a wonderful father. Maybe not. They get the news about Rodrigo, Anas is stunned, sends Renato to investigate, and it pretty quickly comes back that Elizaondo’s men were involved. Anas says they’re animals, but why would they want the baby, unless Gina...is...still...alive! Renato? He’s just about to confess, when Olmeda shows up, and they have to take the bullet out of him. He’s feeling terribly guilty, tells Anas just to kill him now, she’s disgusted with him, never wants to see him again.

Chad shows up at the office to work for Adán, who says I’m giving you a one week trial period, if you mess up, you’re out. Your first job, go to this address and pick up $100,000.00. This is a huge amount to Chad, but for Adán, these days it’s chump change.

Carmen tells Érica, this nude scene is not about sex, it’s political. You see, as Cleopatra, you’re promoting feminism, women’s rights to be free, making a statement. Ohhh, says Érica, cool, and off comes the bra! After a bunch of sexy pictures, Verónica shows up, insults Érica as usual about being a tramp, Érica keeps her cool, is that your whole purpose in coming here? No, replies Vero, I just want a straight answer. Is there anything going on between you and my husband? Absolutely not, says Érica, as I keep saying, we’re just friends. Nothing more. Vero leaves, and Érica calls Adán, can you believe your wife just disrupted my photo shoot, asking me if there was anything between us? I had to lie, of course. Someone, maybe Carmen asks her what she had to lie about, and she just says oh nothing. That was just a girlfriend of mine.

DUEÑOS, Part 2

In Chile, it turns out that Jorge and Gerardo have a drug thing going, we see bricks of coke all over Gerardo’s desk. Jorge says we need new routes, we have to expand to the US, Chile’s just not cutting it, we could make millions if we went overseas. Gerardo’s reluctant at first, then agrees. I’m thinking this could, ironically, bring Analía back with Alejo, or at least Anas’s group.

Analía’s Mom has invited a tall, white haired gentlemen to come to the dinner with Gerardo at Gigi’s, although Analía says that’s not a good idea. And sure enough, the bouncer won’t let the white-haired guy in. So far. Analía is dressed to kill.

Ferrara questions Teresa and Marcelo. At first, they won’t say a word. We then notice that Teresa seems to have had a nervous breakdown, she’s talking nonsense, in a baby type voice. Marcelo says let her go, she didn’t do anything. Ferrara has read their dossier, he was a chemist, she a good cook (apparently perfect resume for their jobs in the body disposal line). Alejo is then brought in, ordered to sit right across from them. Ferrara asks Marcelo and Teresa, do you know this guy? Alejo gives them his most ominous look, saying I’VE never seen either one. Marcelo and Teresa at first say nothing, then say well, maybe we’ve seen him, he might work for one of our Cuban clients. Or Mexican, says Teresa, as Alejo and Marcelo start to freak out, how can they shut her up? Right, she muses, some really handsome guy. I don’t know his first name, but the last name was Maldonado. Bingo! (This is Renato’s last name).

Ferrara comes out to the rest of the group, as Montalban has been congratulating Saúl. The others are also very proud of him, especially Rita and Riquelme. Ferrara takes Saúl aside, quietly tells him good job, but by the way, internal affairs says someone in this office is collaborating with drug dealers, do you happen to know anything about THAT?

Anas is moping, looking at the empty cradle, when Irene comes in, saying most of the wrong things, as usual, like, maybe you weren’t meant to be a mother, the baby is really Gina’s, this really helps cheer up Anas. Not. BTW, adds Irene, your wonderful Conrado is talking to Érica on the phone right now. She picks up the receiver carefully, wanna listen in? Anas at first doesn’t, but curiosity......She takes the phone, holds it to her ear, just in time to hear Conrado tell Érica, I really love you. I miss you. Oooooops!

TIERRA

I'm still a day behind, but from Wednesday's...

Yikes! Things were really heating up, or should I say festering?, between Cayetana and Leo. EWWWW.

And it looked like Beatriz was finally going to get some action with Sam. I wish she would recover and they would live happily ever after for another 40 years, to hell with Andrea. That would be a nice twist. But after she passed out mid-makeout, I don't see how she can hide the severity of her condition from him anymore. Will they go through with the wedding?

I want to smack some sense into Soledad. Stop being such a wimp and tell your daughter the truth about her origins! I did laugh at how creeped out Veronica was getting by Soledad's clinginess. Yeah, that is really creepy behavior if she doesn't know you're her mother! Just tell her!

I think Vero inherited some of Soledad's passiveness, though. Why does she think going to London and marrying the guy she doesn't want is her only option other than staying with Pablo and letting him be abused by the ranting shrew? How about...strike out on your own, get a job somewhere, take Pablo with you? This isn't really such a groundbreaking idea. Veronica may not have a lot of workforce-oriented schooling, but she is intelligent and personable. I'm sure she could figure something out.

Loved the appearance of the Lety la fea type relative. She could be fun.

Dueños

terrific recap Hombre,
you tell a nice story!

Erika is looking like a real dummy the way Carmen keeps pushing her over the edge,
and Sergio was grinning from ear to ear.

a pretty gruesome scene with Olmedo, first Anas whacks him for losing the baby, next Renato says no hospital, they lay him out on a table and bring in a doc who digs around for the bullet while Irene is pouring booze in his mouth, almost making him gag.

I think Analia was upset at her mom for bringing along that other guy since Gerardo only invited the two of them, but he makes like there isn't anywhere that won't let him in, and they don't let him in.

(and wasn't Analia's mom suggesting something, but Analia says she is only going to concentrate on Gerardo)

pour Alejo, his ship keeps sinking deeper. (and they aren't showing the withdrawal from the coke and booze)

so after all these years Saul finally gets what he wants, recognition as a top cop, so will he have doubts about betraying them? (and he was in the bathroom doing some coke before joining the celebration)

and I think somewhere along the line Renato nails down Elizondo's wedding,
and is sending Bob to do the job,
but I don't like Bob, Anas says,
I don't either, Renato replies, but he's the best.

and that Irene, wow, she poisons everything she touches.

Dueños

Thanks so much for taking Thursday, Hombre. And such a fine recap! I had book club last night, but did watch the episode after I got home at 10 pm.

I'd never make it as a narco employee! I've been in my job for 26 years, with the same boss for all those years. I've had to confess messing something up to him a couple of times during those years. Doesn't everyone do that? But for the narcos, you make a mistake and you're out or dead! I felt sorry for Olmeda. JC didn't want to kill anyone, and that's why he survived. But Anas will think he gave up too easily.

I thought Chad was picking up $10,000, not $100K, but maybe I misheard.

It was Sergio who wanted to know to whom Érika said that she'd lied. This fits right in with his obsession with her.

Anas and Analía have one thing in common: rotten mothers. Felisa, Analía's mother is so self-absorbed she's hard to watch. Here's Analía trying like mad to get her meal ticket, and her mother insists on bringing her ghastly boyfriend along to perhaps gum up the works!

The crappy boyfriend, Juanjo, called the bouncer indio de mierda. Classy guy, huh?

Loved your saying Irene says most of the wrong things, as usual. Ain't that the truth!

I don't know if Renato will make it all the way to the end, but I don't think Marcelo's coming up with Maldonado and no first name is sufficient for an arrest. Of course, Ferrara waves off rules of evidence all the time.

Dueños

Thanks, Hombre. Fun reading.

Novelera, I felt sorry for Olmeda too. I give him kudos for limping along in pain and still having the force to knock a guy out of the phone booth. And offering to let Anas kill him? Wow.

I’m impressed with Irene too. In another life, she would’ve made a great surgical nurse.

Now Adán has crossed the line. Getting a teenage boy involved in drug dealing. I still don’t like Chad much but he’s young and entitled to some mistakes, like stealing and dealing marijuana. Adán, as the head of a family, should look out for his daughter’s boyfriend better than this.

I’m still a Vero fan. This time she tried to talk to Érika “woman-to-woman,” meaning “do you want my man and does he want you?” But Érika, understandably offended by the last blowout, just gives her some B.S. If Érika really wanted Adán, I’d be more sympathetic toward her, but I’m convinced she just wants him to want her because she needs to be adored by somebody. It’s kind of sad how she responds to compliments, and Carmen has supplanted Sergio as her manipulator.

And what’s Érika’s trip with calling Adán as if they really do have a thing going and telling him she lied to Vero. So far, they’ve done nothing but flirt.

Paola and Iggy are cute together. I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t his first real relationship and he seems so happy about it. Folks just tuning in now would never suspect he's a psycho rapist.

DUENOS:

Thanks, Deb and Novelera, for filling in things I forgot, and great comments, Niecie. Novelera, cien and diez do sound similar. It could've been Diez Mil dolares.

There was also a scene with Silvana, wanted to leave the hospital, thinks she's fine, the the nurse wants to wait for the results of the tests. Could she have some kind of problem? We'll see.

Duenos

I haven't paid too much attention to the pajaritos, but was Teresa, um, "special" before today? Or did she really just have a breakdown because of the arrest? Seems crazy that she can boil up bodies for a living but not be able to handle this. Serves them right for not being more careful after knowing the cops (or one cop-Riquelme) was out there sniffing around.

Julia - you seem to be the voice of the people lately, you make good points and we all seem to agree with you, especially about Pablo. He really needs a new job.

Even I, who like Soledad couldn't disagree with you about her behavior - it was so aggravating she's all 'I have something important to tell you' and then wimps out and just says Vero reminds her of her daughter. I think if Vero finds out she's adopted the boys will be able to tell her she's their sister. Finally.

Also I wanted to bring up I thought I heard Arturo say Weds that he had figured out Sidepiece's fall wasn't as serious as she pretended and that she was just doing all that to get close to him.
Not too shabby - I thought he'd continue being oblivious for a while

I hope the new cousin continues to be a fun character with some interesting stuff to do
in PdG that character was just their version of Sidepiece's .. um .. sidekick?

Tierra

oh also I just had to say that I thought it was so funny when Caye and Andrea come back from the bank and Andrea is throwing a fit about having to follow the rules as pointed out by Sam and her mom is the voice of reason
Usually its Cayetana being irrational about los Gallardos

TIERRA

I like Soledad, which is why I wish she would find her spine and quit being a doormat. It's like she made one mistake in her youth (hooking up with Mr. Gallardo, and didn't she not even know he was married until after she was pregnant?) and now thinks she deserves nothing and is lucky if anyone allows her to live and throws her a few crumbs. Why did she agree to give her daughter to such a WITCH? Stop punishing yourself, woman.

Although, as she actually said to Veronica, she is now worried her daughter will never forgive her. Well, she can't if she never has the chance.

Maybe Andrea will interrupt Sam's wedding on horseback and ride off with him the way Flavio did at Irina's wedding.

Tierra
oh Julia that would be hilarious (Andrea & Sam)
I wish

I think they made a big mistake setting this in modern day Houston
So many of the story elements don't really fit there

ok
I have Thursday's recap ready now

Tierra de Reyes
Thurs 3/26
Part 1

Ok so Dario & Irina go to a club to celebrate/commiserate/whatever
At this club they see Flavio with some dark haired chick
Irina basically goes ballistic and ends up throwing a drink in this chick's face
But, it was all a trampa to drive Irina crazy with jealousy and Dario was in on it.
Flavio is looking very self satisfied (and cute in a scruffy way, but model cute? I don't know)

Sophia and her mom talk/argue/whatever.
Sophia doesn't know her mom and Leo sucked face but she does want Leo out. Now! (yeah, not gonna happen, maybe YOU should move)

Bea tries to convince Sam that her fainting spell isn't serious.
He isn't very convinced and wants to go to the doctor with her tomorrow
Later, when he's out of the room she calls the doctor and asks him to back up her lies and under no circumstances tell Sam she's dying.

Caye has big news for her family
First, she's getting a makeover (wow!(sarcasm)) Family is supportive. Probably wouldn't be if they knew it was for Leo's benefit.
Second they're, and by they she means Sophia, fleeing the country, to keep Arturo from ever seeing his kid

The cop (Nestor's 2nd ) comes to talk to Valverde about his problems w/ Ignacio Del Junco.
Valverde explains it all away
Then later plots to kill Leo and blame him for Ignacio's death (I would not be heartbroken if this succeeds. Just sayin)

Flavio and Arturo convo. They are both going to continue fighting for the loves of their lives, each in his own way.
Flavio has a casting

Tierra de Reyes
Thurs 3/26
Part 2

Irina and Cayetana go shopping for the new look (To me, admittedly not a fashion expert, the new look doesn't look much different from the old look)
Later Cayetana takes her new look to the police station and tries to pull rank and disses Nestor and she and her new look spend some time in the cells

Nestor & Leo spar at the police station
Leo has come to make a stmt about Ignacio's death
Leo lies through his teeth and says he had an excellent relationship with his suegro
Caught in his lies he tries to cover but the cop has video evidence and a file from the PI Ignacio hired who died a day after he did.
Leo lawyers up and they let him go

Pablo shows up to make his statement. While he's talking to the cop he flashes back to Leo threatening Vero and tries to backpedal (but not very hard)

The housekeeper @ Vero's is keeping tabs on her for Sole
She talks to Sole on the phone and Vero's mom eavesdrops
After she hangs up Vero's mom chews her out and Dario overhears (by accident, not eavesdropping)
Dario doesn't really get an explanation for what he almost heard ' don't tell Vero what?' , but now he knows something is going on

Leo and Sophia fight, and I mean fight; it gets physical, about her ratting him out to the cops.
Leo threatens Sophia and the baby and anyone else who occurs to him and leaves Sophia doubled over in pain
Sophia seems to be in serious trouble

end.

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – VIERNES – Parte 1 de 2

We again see Anas hear Conrado on an extension phone telling Érika that he loves her and misses her. Irene goes on and on, saying Érika is a zorra who only pretends to be a good person. Irene says she’ll take Conrado away if Anas doesn’t get rid of her.

At the bar, after Ferrara tells Benevides that Miami Internal Affairs is saying there’s an infiltrator in the police selling information to the Conrado Caratel, Benevides does a pretty good job of seeming unconcerned. Ferrara leans close and tells him that, if he were making a list of possibles, Benevides would be at the top of the list.

Leandro Quezada congratulates José Carlos on getting Rodrigo back to his mother. He goes on to say that he thought JC was odd, a bit effeminate when he was a child. JC, stone faced, tells him he’s changed. LQ tells him that who ever takes over his empire has to be strong. First JC holds out his hand and LQ eventually shakes it. JC pulls in for a not very warm hug.

Iggy was called downstairs after he was already in bed with Paola. He passes by and sees LQ and JC hugging and goes out furious. A black hood is thrown over his head and he’s forced into a car. It turns out to be his crew, taking him out for a bachelor party.

I’m a bit confused. The last I remember a bouncer was refusing Juanjo entry, I thought to Gigi’s club. But we now see Felisa and Juanjo at Gerardo’s house. In the background are Vanessa, Alejo’s flight attendant sister, and Analía. Felisa snarks about Vanessa being a rota and can’t believe she was invited to Gerardo’s house. Felisa also says that Alejo is a roto. These are new to me. Dead broke? Not sure. Anyway, upset by encountering her sister-in-law, Analía wants to leave, but her mother won’t hear of it.

We next see Analía at Gigi’s. There’s coke all over a table there and Analía is very upset. Her mother tells her to haz la vista gorda (look the other way). This woman is ghastly.

At the only strip club in Miami, the only lap dancer in Miami is coming on to Iggy. Benevides comes in and he and Iggy lock eyes. Benavides goes to a phone to call Anas.

Conrado and Anas are in bed. She tells him she’s confused by him. She finds it hard to compete. Conrado: “You mean Érika? My relationship with Érika has nothing to do with my relationship with you.” He asks if she wants him to never see Érika again. She meekly says she never asked that. He tells her he was seven years with Érika, and whatever happens, she’ll always be in his life. [If this guy wants to strike it rich beside Anas, he’s not playing it very smart.] The phone rings, and it’s Benevides telling Anas that Ignacio Elizondo is in the strip club.

Iggy comes up behind Benavides and drags him into the strippers’ dressing room and beats, kicks, and threatens him. But Saúl toughs it out pretty well.

Felisa, getting more and more drunk and sucking down oysters and caviar, tells her daughter to lighten up. She tells her she’s just like her father: una mojigata (prude, sanctimonious person). When Juanjo pulls Felisa away, Gerardo approaches Analía. He tells her he’ll recognize Tomás, give him his name. Analía drops all pretense and says that Tomás has a name. Her husband is in jail and she doesn’t have any way to support her children. She needs help. While he reassures her that he’ll help her, he puts his hand on her face tenderly. Ines looks over his shoulder!

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – VIERNES – Parte 1 de 2

In the Lap Dance Room Iggy tells Luna that this is the last night he’ll be with anyone except his wife; it’s his bachelor party. She asks him if he likes to play games, then puts a blindfold on him. She promises him a massage then moves away. We see blonde hair and some rubber ties binding his hands. His mask is pulled up and “Surprise!” says Anas, pointing a gun at his face. He puts on the macho act telling her she’d better use it on him or she’ll live to regret it. He’ll hunt her. She asks him where’s the baby. He says: “You mean the baby you stole from your husband’s lover, the baby you couldn’t have?” She hits him in the face with the gun.

Ines has come up to Analía telling her that a ton of women are trying to get pregnant by Gerardo Casanegra, but she’s first in line. [I wouldn’t even be in that line!]

Back to Anas and Iggy. He tells her everyone on the street knows that her body is only for pleasure, and not for giving birth. He says that the baby is with her real mother. Anas says she’s dead. Iggy says he saw her alive and kicking. He makes a lot of disgusting references to the rapes in Mexico, saying she liked it and even 3 guys weren’t enough for her. She bashes him in the face with the gun again. She leans into his bloody face and tells him she knows tomorrow is his wedding day. He’s going to remember her. There will be tears and there will be blood. [I sure hope there’s a good plan. I can’t figure out why they’re warning him.]

When Iggy gets back to Casa Quezada, he’s not as tough as he was earlier. He even puts his gun to his head, and then doesn’t go through with blowing his brains out like I’d like him to.

Anas and Renato talk. She says Iggy is a mental case. Renato tells her he’s sure it wasn’t easy to resist shooting him. He’d like to think it was because he asked her (said with a rueful laugh). She agrees with this but also she wanted to stay with the plan. She goes on to tell him he’s the closest thing to a husband she’s had. She tells him that Elizondo told her that Gina is alive. She assumes she’s working for LQ. Renato tells her this time Gina won’t escape. Anas confirms with Renato that Bob Venegas is to be ready for tomorrow’s action.

Back at Gigi’s, after Felisa staggers out and the disgusting Jorge hints that Gerardo and Analía might join he and Vanessa for “something”, Analía tells Gerardo that Ines was there and spoke to her. He’s horrified!

Conrado enters the room where Anas and Renato are talking. He looks drunk, and he asks if she saw the Colombian. She says she saw him and gave him a warning. Renato leaves in disgust. Conrado wants to know why she didn’t want him to come. She says that guy is her personal problem. Conrado tells her there’s a lot of things about her that bother him. He says that everyone around her is a puppet to her. Then he walks out.

Luciana doesn’t want to go to school, but Vero tries to convince her she needs to finish high school. Delia sticks her oar in again, saying Lu is right to not want to go to school. She tells Vero that her modern ideas won’t let her accept Adán’s business, but she accepts having a single mother for a daughter. After Lu leaves, Deli8a tells very she knows her son. He has a lot of patience, but when his pride is hurt, there’s no way back from that. She tells Vero she’s sure that Adán has a lover, another woman!

DUENOS:

Thanks for another terrific recap, Novelera! As usual I appreciate the Spanish idioms, which I often miss.

Delia really is a pain. She may be right about Adan having an amante, but in general, she's just making everyone miserable.

I guess the "bouncer" in Chile was really Gerardo's guard, and did decide to let Juanjo in, despite his insult.

Conrado really has a lot of chutzpah to think he has the right to have deep relationships with two women at the same time.

Analia told Gerardo that Alejo is her ex, means nothing to her, but she's afraid of what would happen if he gets out of jail. She told Vanessa that Alejo was only in jail for some minor thing, he's out by now. Both of these lies could come back to haunt her. But I still think somehow Gerardo and Jorge will establish a coke connection with Anas and crew.

Although Bob is "the best", it's unlikely that whatever Anas plans at the wedding, it will work perfectly, and if something goes wrong, it could be with Bob (since he's not one of the main characters).

Can't wait for that wedding!

Gracias Novelera

one meaning of roto, which fits this scene

7 (Chile) (de clase baja) common; low-class; (maleducado) rude

Dueños

Thanks, Novelera. I was sleepy last night and my comprehension was low. Sounds like a good episode, so I’ll have to rewatch. So glad you explained haz la vista gorda. I had it all wrong, thought Gigi was telling Analia using coke would keep her body slim!

Saúl’s nose was sniffing quite a bit during his close-up conversation with Ferrara. I’m wondering if Ferrara is noticing the signs of coke use.

On Conrado, when Anas listened to his phone conversation with Érika, she (or Irene?) hung up the phone loudly. My guess is Conrado realized Anas eavesdropped and is hedging his bets that his honesty about Érika -- out of respect for Anas of course and the mature adult relationship he has with her (hah!) -- would work. He is quite good at playing Anas.

How crazy is it that Adán (who I do like, flawed character and all) has three women – Vero, Érika, and the Colombian (forgot her name) – in play and Conrado has two women in play – Érika and Anas – but Renato has no one?

Dueños

Thanks, Variopinta, for the definition of roto (a). I thought it was something like that, but was too tired to bother looking it up. I watched my recording of the Warriors game with Memphis, must see TV for me, first. So watched Dueños quite late. Being Friday night and all, I was OK with watching and recapping late.

Niecie, AMEN! I find Renato extremely attractive, but he has no women whatsoever. I guess we are to assume he would have Anas or nobody. Last night he, jokingly, called himself something like her humilde servidor. She laughed it off, but I think in some sense that's how he sees himself. He was completely faithful to Nataniel until Nat tried to have him killed. He transferred that dog-like loyalty to Anas and maintains it.

She also said he was either getting sentimental or old because some tasks weren't fulfilled. She doubtless meant Gina being alive. I don't think they know he failed with Elias and almost cost them everything. He said he didn't think she was right about "sentimental" but "viejo", sure.

I was quite surprised she wasn't furious about Gina being alive. If he'd killed Gina, she'd still have Rodrigo, but she doesn't seem to blame him for that.

Hombre, I agree 100%! Delia is the mother-in-law from hell. She's alienated her granddaughter with her 19th century attitudes about premarital sex. And she has no business whatsoever meddling in Vero's parenting.

I myself have just about bitten my tongue in two about some of the behaviors my son and daughter-in-law tolerate from my granddaughter, but know that I have no right to say a thing.

Dueños

wow, wonderful recap novelera, there were lots of twists and turns in our story and you were really good at sorting them out, and your little spanish lessons are a plus as this stuff goes right by me.

the three mothers are so different but just as annoying.

so does Renato admit to Gina still being around, this seems odd but then again Elias got away from him twice.

Saul went from top cop to the bottom of the pile pretty quickly, did he even have a gun, maybe he'll catch on and be better prepared for his next Iggy encounter, did he make some crack about getting moral lessons from a sicario, as Iggy was lecturing him on having two bosses. (I kind of like him and his toothpick, he doesn't dance to anyone's tune)

Ines has gone from not wanting to be kissed in public to an ominous shadow, was Gerardo shocked because Ines wasn't invited and he didn't know she was there, or does he know more about her, (he is an interesting character because he appears to be the brains and Jorge the muscle, and yet he doesn't seem to be comfortable with what they are doing).

so did Analia dump Gerardo for Alejo? (and with the way Alejo can't stand the mention of Gerardo's name, whew, there is going to be a problem if he ever does get out of jail)

[I'm thinking that the Chile scenes were filmed there with a different crew as they have a different feel from the Miami stuff.]

Dueños

Deb, there are so many Chileans in this novela beause it's a joint production of Telemundo and TVN (Televisión Nacional de Chile). I'm sure the scenes that take place in Santiago de Chile are really filmed there. I also find it harder to understand the Chileans when they speak, with the exception of Andrea López, who's portraying a Chilean but is Colombian. Of course the Mexican accent is the easiest for me to understand as this is the nationality of my various teachers.

Yes, I gathered that Analía was expected to marry Gerardo. She told Inés that they'd known each other since they were children. She apparently fell for Alejo (and why not...he's way more attractive than Gerardo) and dumped Gerardo.

Gerardo himself alluded to Analía having been the only woman who'd ever dumped him. I guess money talks because he's mediocre looking at best. And Inés was fascinated upon finding out that Analía wasn't just some stray golddigger, but the famous woman who, as Inés stated, practically left Gerardo at the altar.

I think Gerardo specifically didn't want Inés there. She's some kind of a big deal in media, and maybe some of the people at GiGis that night were on the shady side. I think he'd like to keep that side of his life away from her.

Yep, even in the midst of being beaten and kicked where he had a gunshot wound from the raid on the Pajaritos, Saúl cracked wise to Iggy about Iggy's comments that he was playing ball both with the cops and with the narcos. The crack was about the irony of hearing moral lessons from a sicario.

Tierra

I have no idea what happened on Fri's episode (does anyone know how long boxing season lasts? If this keeps up I'll have to figure out some way to tape the earlier broadcast)

I know I already asked just barely for last Friday, and if no-one has time to post anything I totally understand.
However, if any Good Samaritan wanted to update me as to what happened that would be cool.
Its ok if you can't though

TIERRA:

Friday's episode:

The fight with Leo caused Sofia to have some pain and contractions. Fortunately everyone quickly came running; for some reason their first priority was to make her stand up. But they also called for paramedics and got her to her bed. The contractions were stopped but she'll be on bed rest for the duration.

Samuel, Beatriz, and Soledad were back from the doctor and heard the ambulance; somehow Sam found out about Sofia's scare and alerted Arturo. Arturo hot-footed it over and demanded to see Sofia. Leo and Cayetana tried to forbid it, but Gramps insisted on letting Sofia decide. Sofia agreed so that he would see she was okay and then go away and leave her alone, but she cried after he kissed her belly and left.

Irina threw a fit when she showed up to the meeting about the perfume ad and Flavio was there to sign his contract. He was worried because Miranda hates him, but the woman in charge told him Miranda doesn't concern herself with the business. Apparently Irina had already signed her contract, because the woman told her she couldn't quit and the only way they wouldn't be shooting together is if Flavio didn't sign the contract. Of course Irina demanded that he drop out, but he just smiled and signed it. Irina flounced out. The woman seemed to find them amusing. I guess this is the vibe she wants for the ad?

Arturo went to the old Gallardo family house, all empty. Sidepiece was there, too, sliming on him and trying to find out whether he knows anything about the murder of his parents. Somehow she doesn't find his perpetual sourface as offputting as I do.

Miranda went to Beatriz's house just to gloat to Soledad that Veronica is going to London and to threaten her not to spill the secret. Soledad told her she doesn't care what Miranda wants; the only reason she won't tell is to keep Veronica from suffering.

Meanwhile, Veronica and Pablo take a walk on the beach. It's lovey-dovey until she tells him she's heading back to London in a few days after all. Poor Pablo has finally had enough, it seems. He goes off on a long sad rant and she pitifully tries to claim that she has no choice. This might make more sense set in a different century. Of course, she just isn't telling him that Leo plans to kill him or whatever if Veronica doesn't leave him. Anyway, Pablo thinks Vero just doesn't love him enough and he doesn't have enough to offer her. He starts to walk away, but doesn't get very far. He runs back, and they get busy on a big rock.

Later, they're still smooching in the afterglow, but she's still planning to leave. Poor Pablo. Even the people who love him use and abuse him.

Cayetana and her new look spend some more time trying bootlessly to pull rank from inside a jail cell. Nestor eventually lets her go, but tells her that her "status" means nothing in the police station. She claims she'd denounce him but it would be pointless because of all his powerful connections.

Cayetana and Leo are both pushing the classic abuser line that the fights are all Sofia's fault for making Leo mad.

Irina tried to menace Leo into leaving Sofia alone. He just told her that soon she will have to respect him as much as or more than her father, QEPD. Never!!!

TIERRA:

part 2:

It's finally the wedding day. The garden is lovely and most of the guests have arrived. Boris apparently has plan to ensure the wedding doesn't happen, and Natasha is very anxious.

Andrea leaves the house carrying a rifle. Cayetana is a little concerned about that, but not enough to follow her any further than the front door to object.

Sidepiece and her nerdy cousin arrive at the wedding. Sidepiece ogles Arturo and the cousin (Linda?) makes outlandish flirty gestures at Dario. Ha.

Nestor's girlfriend, can't remember her name, is late to the wedding because she's been basically forced by Valverde and his goons to go take pictures of the former Gallardo house, now all furnished and decorated. Valverde coerces her into staying for a quick glass of champagne, which quickly smashes on the floor when he forces himself on her.

Meanwhile, Leo and a goon are holding some fiscal named Camilo Suarez hostage in a log cabin; I can't tell if it's the same place Flavio and Irina were held. They're trying to blackmail him into dropping the investigation of Ignacio's death.

Veronica, wearing a dominatrixy crop top with bedazzled skirt, escorts Samuel to the front. Arturo, dressed up in a countryish suit and wearing a less gross black hat, escorts lovely Beatriz.

And we end with a view through a rifle scope pointed at Sam's head.

TIERRA

Pablo makes me want to cry. He's such a punching bag and so alone. Veronica keeps stringing him along, getting his hopes up just to trample them again and again. The del Junco sisters tell him he's like a brother to them as a way of patting him on the head when they see him looking a bit too Sad Puppy, but they don't, not really. He isn't treated like a member of the family. They don't include him in their sibling bonding activities. And the maid who claims to be into him (I can't keep the two of them straight) is a traitor. Does the poor guy have no real family or friends of his own?

He's a much more compelling character to me than any of the Gallardos. Breakout star of the show, like Leonardo was on Que Pobres Tan Ricos. I might have a little more empathy for Arturo if he would ever take that sneer off his face and show a little range. Even Juana was smiling at the wedding and she just lost her daughter very recently!
