Lo Imperdonable #44 Fri 7/17/15 A Passionate Cleansing
I don't have much time today so this will be a short recap:
* Thoughtubbling from Marty and Vero. Both are in different places but via their thoughts they recite the lyrics of the theme song to each other. Marty apologizes to Vero via his thoughts while Vero says that she can't forgive Marty this time.
* Marty via his thoughtbubbling knows that he doesn't deserve Vero's forgiveness. If only she knew how much he loooves her. She's his everything - his light, hope, beginning and end. He needs her respiration. He's sure that he and Vero will get back together. He will find a way for Vero to forgive him. The two will leave the past behind. Marty gets on the boat that will take him one step closer to the city.
* Lucky Old Goat. Not only did he survive the operation but his shall we say intimate parts were left untouched. Now all he must do is take his medication and lose some weight. If he does all this then we'll have to deal with the old goat for a loooong time. Oy vey. The old goat is ready to head back home because he can't stand being in the contaminated city that is full of cars and shameless women. Die Old Goat. Die. Oh and he wants Botel to give him back the letter he had written for Ana Perla. No one must read it. Hmm...
* Emi tells Virginia that he tried to convince Nanci to let her come along to the jungle to meet her people BUT... Virginia "understands". She's ticked off though because Nanci said that she was a bad person. How dare she do that? Emi thinks it must have been Nanci's way of saying "Me no like Virginia". Emi changes the subject and tries to convince her to head back home but Virginia can't. Because she promised her aunt and uncle that she'd return with him.
* Padre asks Vero how things are with Marty. Vero explains she was hurt by the horrible things Marty said about her. Vero wants a divorce. Padre knows Vero and Marty love each other and thinks Vero should think things through. Vero eventually accepts to think things through but she's not making any promises. She doesn't see there being point in being with Marty if he doesn't trust her. She changes the subject and tells Padre that she will try and help Ana Perla. Padre thinks it's sooo noble of Vero to be helping others when she's going through a hard time. Vero wants to make sure Ana Perla is ok. Padre offers to come along with her but Vero tells him that she'll go to see Ana Perla while he's leading the rosary. Padre warns her to watch out for Manuel. Vero's not worried. After what happened with Marty nothing that happens to her can be worse (or something like that).
* Nanci wants to "cleanse" Em of the alcohol (ha!) and resentment. Emi agrees. Nanci says "take off your clothes". Emi is taken aback but does as told. Later on, we see that Emi and Nanci are inside the hut. Emi is in his underwear while Nanci "cleanses" him. The cleansing eventually turns verryyy passionate with the two staring at each other and Nanci washing and rubbing his chest. They eventually kiss passiontaley and make love. PS: Uni cut out at least a minute (I think) of the lovemaking at the end of the episode.
* With Vero off to see Ana Perla, Blanquita and Polo want to see Ana Perla as well. But Manuel says No Way Jose. He tells them to get lost. Manuel lets Ana Perla out of the storage room and threatens her to keep her mouth shut about being locked up or else. Ana Perla does as told and tells Vero that if she hasn't left the house it is because her grandfather asked her to stay at home and she didn't want to disobey him. Manuel stays and supervises the chat between Vero and Ana Perla. The idiot doesn't get it when Vero pretends to talk about "Romeo & Juliet" (*wink* *wink*) with Ana Perla while really talking to her about Pablo. Vero wants to know what happened after "Romeo" wanted to watch out for "Juliet". Ana Perla says "Juliet" had a beautiful dove (Julio?) tell him not to risk it because if anything bad happened to her she'd die. Eventually, Vero leaves and Julio takes advantage of Vero being there to get Manuel to let Ana Perla be in her room. (Oh and we see a shot of Manuel's wallet which he has left. This can't be good...)
* When Blanquita and Polo see Manuel leaving the house, they hide behind the fountain after attempting to speak to Vero and asking her about Ana Perla. Blanquita and Polo eventually do see Ana Perla and speak to her through the barred window in Ana Perla's room. Ana Perla shows them the "engagement ring" (made from the string of her favorite blue shawl) which Pablo gave her. Polo doesn't get what all the commotion is over a string made ring. Ana Perla says that the string came from the first time she and Pablo met. Blanquita wants to know more but first she has to use the bathroom. She goes inside to the bathroom while Polo and Onix wait outside.
* Vero and Magda talk. Magda knows Vero is upset and it isn't because of Ana Perla being locked up. She knows it has to do with Marty. Vero admits that it does have to do with him. Magda tries to convince her to give Marty a second chance. This scene goes on and on and at the end Magda tells Vero to listen to her heart (or something like that). One interesting part of the scene was the Vero was upset how she gave everything up for Marty and she wouldn't have minded if Marty had done his part to make things work. Vero also mentions how sometimes she felt that Marty enjoyed taking her to live to a hovel. Magda thinks Marty regrets his behavior and that he can change etc.
* Manuel finds Polo outside the house and threatens to take him and Onix far away. He'll take Onix to a dog fighting where he is sure Onix will be beaten. Die Manuel. Die. Oh and he'll take Polo to another town where he'll leave him at an orphanage. This scares Polo and he and Onix flee with Manuel gloating with malicious satisfaction. Polo and Onix head back to Mina Escondida and run off to the jungle (same place where Polo had taken Pablo a few episodes back). We see that a jaguar is nearby and Polo and Onix go and hide inside a hidden mine.
* Blanquita gets caught by Manuel attempting to convince Tomasina to let her see Ana Perla. Blanquita stands up to Manuel and she accepts that she came to see Ana Perla. Manuel thinks Blanquita wants to help Ana Perla escape. He's telling her parents and the Old Goat about this. He manhandles Blanquita and throws her out of the house. Blanquita is worried when she doesn't see Polo outside. Polo wouldn't just leave like that. She thinks Manuel must have done something to him and Manuel accepts that he did do something.
* Earlier in the episode, Teo got the courage and asked Blanquita out on a dinner date at Pierre's restaurant. Blanquita accepted but she had to ask for permission. Now with Polo missing and having been caught by Manuel, Blanquita goes to tell Teo the date is off. Pierre listening in one the conversation tells Teo to forget about work and go with Blanquita. Teo leaves.
* Blanquita and Teo show up at Magda's and let her and Vero know about Polo's disappearance. Blanquita is worried because Polo is nowhere to be seen and she asks Magda and Vero to help her find her brother.
* Manuel showed up at the hotel and Pierre wasn't happy to see him. Manuel threatens to pounce on Teo if he doesn't leave Blanquita alone. Pierre stands up to Manuel. Manuel doesn't want the women in his family to behave like that crazy Vero. Virginia overhears and this remark catches her attention. Pierre defends Vero and says that Vero is a lady and even if she weren't Manuel should never talk about a woman like that. Pierre leaves after telling Manuel that he doesn't want to smell him -- LOL.
* Virginia and Manuel chat. Virginia gets the scoop on the problems between Manuel and Marty and Vero. Manuel tells her about how he stabbed Marty to defend himself and it was all Vero's fault. Then Virginia asks if he knew Dim. Manuel says he did and he actually liked him but the dude went crazy and killed himself over a woman. Virginia asks Manuel if he knows who that woman was. Manuel says nope. No one does. Manuel then talks about alt the gold that can be found in his mine. Manuel leaves and Virginia calls him a naco -- LOL.
* Virginia plans to use Manuel as witness to make her aunt and uncle believe that Vero is bad news. She'll send a fax home letting her aunt and uncle know that Emi is out of control all because of Vero who seduced him etc.

I hope when Martin is brought into the light that we will get to see his redeeming features ala Veronica and that it will continue for awhile instead of a hurried realization and ending. I do think that Manuel will die by mine explosion because of his carelessness or by machete, preferably the latter with Virginia to follow. I can really see Nanci going after her, especially now that she has latched onto Emiliano.

@ Carvivlie - this is also my 9th novela and of all the TN I have seen (Wild Rose, Lady of the Rose, Maria de Los Angeles, No One But You, Isaura, The Rich Also Cry, Secrets of the Sand, Wild At Heart)Lo Imperdonable has the hottest secene I have ever seen in from all the TN I have seen. I was in shock with Vero and Martin scenes. I was saying to myself is this normal for TN? Wild at Heart hardly had any hot scenes.

Well, well, well, NancyY got the alcohol out of Emi's blood, the resentment out of his heart and got some loving out of it too so I say good spiritual healing. I hate Manuel, uff. Magda actually is succeeding in convincing Vero to stay even after all she's heard, no bueno. I wonder if Virgy's fax will come back to bite her in her scheming butt?

A true friend who knows as much as Magda does about what Vero has been through at the hands of Satan..er..Martin would have her on the first boat out of there.

I'm worried that once Emi hears Vero is leaving Marty he will run back to her. Here's hoping Nancis cleansing keeps him close to her.

Anon 2:28, couldn't say how I feel about Magdalena better myself and I just sat there with my mouth agape. Though it angers me when the Padre does it, he believes all women wanton that have not been locked in a cellar, but Magdalena, who was abused and is perpetuating Martin's lie while presenting herself as a loyal confident to Veronica, shameful. I get, if everyone knew Martin well (including Veronica) and what he is doing way out of character after years of behavior otherwise and in a solid marriage and/or with children, but this screams red flag.

Mauricio, Thanks for such a scintillating recap. I also found it very interesting the way that Nanciyaga taught Emi more about her community and culture. But I really am eager to see the how things play out Post Passionate Cleansing. First, how are Nanci and Emi going to continue from here? Are they going to be boyfriend and girlfriend? Or was it all pure clinical sexual healing? Nanciyaga has cured her patient and can return to her Crazy Marty obsession.
Many of you wanted to see Salma's reaction if Emi and Nanci are a couple....I think Jorge's reaction will be even more fun.
I cooled off on the Pablo/AP romance while Pablo was cheating on Mariana. Once Pablo dumped Mariana (tho she may not believe it), I think Pablo's earnestness and perseverance has improved the storyline.

Loved your "Lucky Old Goat" (for some reason made me think of that song Lucky Old Sun and your observation that not only did the Old Goat survive, but without any encroachment on his intimate parts Maybe a purification rite with Nanciyaga would improve his emotional health as well. We all certainly have the feeling that Emiliano is now on an upward trajectory. And dark-hearted Martin is headed downwards.

As for Nanciyaga, While I continue to be a huge fan, I'm afraid that I have serious questions about her medical (spiritual?) ethics. It seems to me that she used her trusted position as a healer to take advantage of the vulnerable and damaged young man, Emiliano, though I doubt that he'll be filing complaints any time soon. Of course this wouldn't be the first time that a health care provider has abused his authority.
As for "Jungle tropical cocktails" at the Nanciyaga Table, let's hope not as that would seem to invalidate the whole purpose of the purification procedure... fresh juices and herbal teas only, please.

Jorge has not punished or mistreated Veronica, nor slut shamed her despite believing what Virginia put out there, Martin on the other hand uses this as justification for isolating Veronica and mistreating her, including spreading the rumor of her promiscuity. In fact, so far, Jorge continues to defend Veronica from slights by Virginia and Selma.

I noticed that the Nanciyaga table has gotten quite crowded this weekend. More chairs had to be brought in. and a couple more pictures of tropical adult drinks had to be ordered. At the opposite end of the patio Carlos is the only one who has stopped by and visited the V-snake table. I hope that Virginia doesn't get jealous and try to hurt Nanci. Oh, I forgot---Nanci's machete will be enough to keep V-snake at bay.

About Manuel: I've been thinking for some time that he is the least well-defined as a character of all the principal players. He is, rather, pure sadism, pure evil. As Carlos has observed, there is nothing particularly interesting about him. He isn't conflicted or ambivalent. He's just moral pollution.
A couple of things I forgot to tell you on Wednesday (and which I only mention because they could be important later):
- The detective told Botel that he had located Magdalena's brother-in-law in Cancún. He may be able to tell them about the circumstances of Verónica's "death," but he won't talk unless they pay him off.
- When Vero showed up at the school to assist Dr. F with the vaccinations, he told her she looked demacrada and depressed. He said he knew she was having problems with her husband and seemed to fishing for more dirt for Ginny. Even so, I found the word demacrada interesting. It means something like gaunt or haggard. As soon as he said it, I wondered if Vero might be pregnant... (I've seen too many telenovelas, you say?) :-)

I hope when Martin is brought into the light that we will get to see his redeeming features ala Veronica and that it will continue for awhile instead of a hurried realization and ending. I do think that Manuel will die by mine explosion because of his carelessness or by machete, preferably the latter with Virginia to follow. I can really see Nanci going after her, especially now that she has latched onto Emiliano.

I was surprised, though, that no one seemed to find it a bit odd that Nanciyaga's culture does not approve of "hugging cousins" but apparently has no problem with one of their own getting it on with a total stranger as part of a spiritual cleansing.

@Gale - I'll answer your question about # of episodes. Basically, the total number is up in the air right now, and telenovela producer José Alberto Castro is doubly to blame for the uncertainty. Lo Imperdonable was originally planned for 120 one-hour episodes, and due to it's so-so ratings, no one expected it to get extended. However, two Castro-related events may cause it to be extended for an additional 40 hours, so that it would end in Mexico in January instead of November. First, Castro's head writer Ximena Suarez agreed to work with Mejia on Lo Imperdonable on condition that as soon as Castro needed her she would leave. As soon as Castro renewed his production contract with Televisa he decided to start production on his new novela, so he took Ximena Suarez away when she had written only the first 75 hours or so of Lo Imperdonable. Mejia scrambled and replaced her with two male writers he has used in the past, and recently he added a third writer, a woman from Spain named Claudia Velasco who is known for her published romantic novels. These changes in writing team ate into the 2-month cushion Mejia had between start of production and airtime. Coincidentally, Castro's new novela is the one that Televisa has scheduled to replace Lo Imperdonable in the 9:30pm timeslot when it ends, which was supposed to be in November in Mexico. But Castro has told them that he does not want to premiere his new novela just before the holidays b/c that is a time of historically low ratings. So he wants the premiere of his new novela to be pushed forward from November until January. The only way Televisa can do that is by extending Lo Imperdonable by two months.
@LatinaInMD! Well that is great - knowing that it may continue for awhile and I fully appreciate your detailed explanation, as that is very interesting. I don't understand why the ratings were so-so, surely they must be higher now??? It's a good cast with the exception of a few. I still think the AP/Pablo storyline leaves a lot to be desired in terms of character expansion and depth, which could make it much more interesting. However, the story is really about Martin and Veronica and I would like to see it focused on them more of the time and AP/Pablo part left to a minimum. The Emiliano/Nanciyaga situation is potentially much more interesting too. It's nice to see Sergio Sendel playing a more or less normal person for a change - even a nice one.

For a week or more, I can't seem to get to CC early enough in the day to comment. I do read the recaps and comments. Deep gratitude to each recapper--I appreciate your individual talents you bring to your recaps and the humor that helps us balance the sometimes strange events in the green hell. Anonymous @ 11:55 - Marty and Vero "hicieron el amor" multiple times from episode 33 to episode 35. Univision edited out large chunks of those scenes, but we made clips available of the cut scenes here with our recaps of those episodes.
