Bajo

Thanks for setting us up for another week, NovelaMaven! I'll be recapping Bajo tonight, probably up in a couple of hours.

Glad to see the interest in Perla, although I don't have time to take on another novela. I'm always glad to see people loving something!

Perla,

thanks Anita, love your posts on the previous page!!!

and there is another couple, Matilde Meyer (the singer) and lama Sonan, or was that in another life?

novelera- you should take a peek at the monastery scenes,

"For the Himalayan scenes, the Precious Pearl crew spent 20 days in Nepal shooting in the cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur. They also shot in Bungamati, which is a 16th-century village, as well as at the Golden Temple, and at the Shechen Monastery. The production crew used around 60 local extras. Many objects were acquired in Nepal, particularly incense stick holders, bed linens, prayer objects and wooden bowls used by monks, were utilised for the telenovela set design, at Globo's studios in Rio de Janeiro"

today's west coast schedule was messed up and I only got to see 1 1/2 hours of the 2 hour show, I think when Silvia arrived in the Himalayas and ruined everyone's harmony, is when it got real choppy, she came, then later was having a fit with Franz, then later Amelia was telling Franz it's over, so there must be some more here.

Bajo. Wow! I didn't see that one coming. Saved by Flag and Carlos, but I think Rodrigo didn't want to see the scar anyway. How on earth is he planning to keep his gunshot injury secret from Greicy? Exciting episode tonight, but I'm waiting for novelera's recap, because some of it is so exciting that it should be told all at once.

BAJO – LUNES – PARTE 1

We again see Rodrigo peeking through the bathroom door at Adela while she takes a shower. He remembers two things: his father asking him to respect and care for Mati and El Colmillo saying that he had to kill Adela or he’d finish off his whole family.

Flag to the rescue! He senses something and barks at Rod again and again causing him to leave the bathroom door and Adela to put on a towel. She notices that the door is no longer locked.

Carlos arrives and asks Rod what he’s doing on his feet [¡Lo mismo digo yo!] He asks him why he seems nervous. Rod brushes this off and again says something about “You go your way, and I’ll go mine” and leaves. And not a word of thanks for saving his miserable hide! Carlos is very intuitive. He asks Adela if his son upset her in some way. She tells him that Rod was very sincere with her and that she felt, for the first time, that she was speaking to Rodrigo and not El Fire.

A guard comes to tell the Warden that some guys have come to see El Colmillo. She decides to set a trap for El Colmillo. She tells the guard she never could get him to collaborate and this could be a chance.

Chabelita rags on Rodolfo (for the 20th time) over the phone. This is about the policewoman not letting her take her son. She says it’s his fault for taking her away that night. He waves this off, saying he didn’t do it at gunpoint, after all. He tells her to wait for him there. Maria comes in and hears him on the phone. He tells her he has an appointment about a record deal.

Jay is seated in front of the usual glass with a phone to speak to a prisoner. He tells the one he supposes to be El Colmillo that he’s his servilleta! [? His napkin? Oh well!] The warden tells the guard through a mike in his ear what to say. Jay, being blind, cannot see the guard nor his uniform. Jay says he needs to tell El Colmillo about the “guard dog” he sent them. He says the guy is biting the hands that feeds him.

Carlos and Adela are stripping the bloody sheets off his bed. Of course, since this is a telenovela, none of all that blood soaked through to the mattress. Adela says, and Carlos agrees, that Rodrigo is an adult and that he, Carlos, needs to think of his own life. He tells her that Jacob’s lawyer, Andrés, had offered to help him get his “papers” and he plans to go for it.

Luis is told by a pretty unsympathetic counselor that he is missing so many credits that he’d have to go to summer school to even graduate. She doesn’t think he’ll qualify for a scholarship either.

Back at the prison Jay tells the guard that Los Alacranes have taken back some of the streets and that there was a firefight. He says they’re losing control of the streets because of Fang’s hombre de confianza. This guy is spending more time caring for his woman and his father and that Adela not being dead is all his fault.

Said Adela is burning the bloody sheets in a huge garbage can fire. [My neighbors would NEVER stand for this!] She says to herself, actually addressing the absent Rodrigo, that she can no longer revenge herself for all he has done because he’s the son of Carlos. But she hopes he’ll suffer everything that she suffered (remembering limping along the street after they branded her). She says that destiny will give him his punishment. Y hoy eligo el camino del amor porque el odio mata, pero el amor sana el él que esta curando mí es tu papa.. (Today I’m choosing the way of love because hate kills while love cures, and he who is curing me is your father.)

BAJO – LUNES – PARTE 2

We see Rod in pain walking along. He remembers meeting Adela for the first time. “Who are you really, Mati?” And then: ¡No puede ser – es la mujer de mi jefe! [They have really gone with ambiguous in this whole episode. We don’t know for sure if he saw the brand.]

Carlos goes to see Andrés, the lawyer, to begin the process of gaining legal status. He says he has a child born here. He has always worked hard and sent money to his mother and nieces and nephews in Mexico. He has also always paid his taxes. Andrés says that this is a good point in his favor; the tax payments show he’s been here more than 10 years. The lawyer asks about Rodrigo. (We remember that Andrés helped get him out.) He asks if he’s come back into the country illegally.

The bitter and nasty Jay keeps on rambling to the guard. He says that the bitch who killed your daughter is still alive. She came to the place where they were hiding the “things” they were to move in the East. He says that the gang got rid of three rats, including Raúl, who was giving information to the police. [The warden: "So it was El Colmillo who found out about the spy the police had paid off!"]

Maria follows Rodolfo and discovers him entering Cristóbal’s apartment with that “salesperson” who came to their house.

The Warden and the guard to go confront El Colmillo in his cell. She tells him she has enough evidence to get him a speedy trial and a death sentence. She says she knows he sent a gangbanger to kill an informant named Raúl. She tells him she also knows that he ordered the murder of one Adela Morales for having killed his daughter. He flares up: “Don’t mention my daughter!” She says that he’s such a deviant that he probably sent his own daughter to be in a gang and that’s why she was killed. He manages (handcuffed!) to overcome the guard and (maybe) kill the warden. He asks how she knew about Adela. Who told her? Getting no answer he stomps on the Warden’s head.

For some reason Rod goes to see Rat Willy, who isn’t quite as cowed by El Fire as I’d like him to be. Willy asks him if he had the chance to see the brand. Rod says he didn’t see it but he’s sure for other reasons that Mati is not Adela.

Rodolfo is blaming his blameless cousin for what happened because Cris is “taking too much…” Chabela finishes his sentence: “responsibility…your responsibility!” She tells him Alex feels more affection for Cristóbal than for him. She tells him they’re over unless he leaves with her right now and starts the divorce in front of her. Then…knock, knock…it’s Maria!

Andrés tells Carlos that everything looks good, but he still hasn’t told him if Rodrigo came back. Carlos doesn’t answer either way.

Rodolfo tells Maria that Chabela is Cristóbal’s woman and, furthermore, that Alex is Cris’ son!

Rod somehow manages to conceal his wound from Gracie. He tells her about the meeting where his father told everyone about Mati living with him from now on. Gracie: “Poor Felicia.” [If only she knew!] Rod says and Gracie agrees that he’s decided to stay away from his father and Mati. Lying to her as always, he makes it sounds like this is because he gives a rat’s patootie about Felicia.

We see Felicia at the doctor’s. It’s confirmed that she’s pregnant, and the doctor tells her it will be a high-risk pregnancy because of the miscarriage she had before (caused by her husband kicking her in the stomach).

BAJO – LUNES – PARTE 3

Carlos meets Adela in the park to tell her what Andrés said. He gives her some flowers with a small ring in a box inside. They both agree they cannot marry. [So undocumented people can’t get married? I didn’t know this.] Carlos says something about their having to leave the country and ask pardon. He asks her if she’ll accept this ring as a symbol. Of course she does! [Maria Elisa has the most gorgeous smile, I think, of any actor in telenovelas.]

Santiago shows up to spend a moment with Juana and to steal a kiss. Evil Gringo is watching.

Andrés has come to Jacob’s house to bring him some papers to sign. Jacob tells him that Susy is seeing Carlos’ son. “Rodrigo?”, says Andrés. Jacob assures him it’s the younger one, Luis. Jacob says when he asked Andrés to help Carlos, he never asked why Rodrigo was in jail. [We see Deborah doing some of the stereotypical telenovela eavesdropping in the doorway.] Andrés breaks every confidentiality rule in the book by telling Jacob that he just had Carlos in his office about becoming legal. He goes on to say that Rodrigo was the leader of a dangerous gang, and he fears that he’s back in the US.

Deborah bursts into the room, completely hysterical. She screams at Jacob that her daughter is mixed up with gangbangers and it’s all his fault!

Luis tells Nick he doesn’t think he’ll be able to go to college. [Thanks for that, non-supportive school counselor!] Willy walks up to say hello and Luis goes after him for trying to kill his father.

Jacob tells Deborah he’s going to seek out Carlos and find out what’s going on with Rodrigo.

Evil Gringo sees Juana smelling the cleaning products and asks if perhaps she can’t read. She denies it. Then he asks her if the man outside is her boyfriend. We don’t see what she tells him tonight.

Deborah calls ICE and gives them Carlos’ name and address. It didn’t seem to go quite like she’d planned because she shrieks that she knows they get hundreds of such calls, but this involves dangerous people.

Carlos calls his mother in Mexico so that Adela can “meet” her over the phone. Afterwards Adela asks why, since Maria is legal, they never brought their mother to the US. He replies that a brother died, and his mother needs to care for his nieces and nephews.

Willy tells Luis that someone hired The Stooges to kill Mati. How was he supposed to know Carlos would be there? Luis tells him that Mati is now his family and that, if Willy messes with her, he’ll pay.

We see Adela and Carlos very happy and post-coital. He says he never knew that when she robbed his truck, she also robbed his soul. He tells her he wants to pay for the brand to be removed. He thinks this might protect her from the gang. She tries to talk him out of it!

Luis has come to see his brother. Rodrigo tells Luis that he knows that Mati protected him from the gunfire. Luis says it’s the second time that she has saved him (remembering when they were kidnapped by Noemi). Rodrigo tells him he wants to know every detail of that other time Mati protected him.

Hi Everyone!

I'm new here! Found out about this wonderful blog from Deb. I look forward to returning to read older posts. Thanks for the heads up about Tuesday schedule for Avenida. I don't know if I'll survive not being able to watch Avenida for one night, but I'll try. It will be a little easier because I've been forewarned. :-)

Thanks so much for the excellent Bajo summaries. Wow! I'm not watching it but with the summaries here, I think I may start. I will return to read the summaries.

Thanks, Deb, for pointing me here!

Paz

GENERAL

Hi Paz! Welcome to CarayCaray and to the Telemundo page! I hope you'll be jumping into the stream of conversation whenever you like. (You do realize that deb is like a rock star around here, right?) :-)

General

wait, wait, who?

welcome Paz,

say, Avenida Brasil was recapped here during the first Telemundo morning run if you care to find those.

also if you haven't seen it, Anita posted a bunch of stuff on Perla on Sunday which is at the end of last week's page.

Bajo

wonderful recap novelera !!!

the commercials are running over into the show so you have filled me in on quite a few things.

the warden sure underestimated Colmillo, if she is going to have him executed, what's another death, the guard was also wearing a gun.

I loved the scene when Adela was burning the sheets where she says "Today I’m choosing the way of love because hate kills while love cures, and he who is curing me is your father", you could just see in her all that she has gone through and how the love Carlos has for her, was curing her.

Bajo. Excellent summary, novelera! I think you have even surpassed yourself. I think that because of the paperwork, ids, etc., required to get a marriage license, Carlos is afraid they might get deported if they tried to get married. I would think they could go to a sanctuary city like San Francisco, though, and nothing would happen to them. Has no one at Luis's school heard of community colleges? They have some excellent ones in California. And speaking of Luis's low grades, a community college is an excellent place to redeem oneself. I have known people who came here from Mexico with a 6th-grade education, who thanks to a community college, were able to complete a high school curriculum, get a GED, then an Associate's Degree, then go on to a state university for a Bachelors and even an advanced degree.

Bajo. If I were a bookie, I would be taking bets on the warden's survival. After all that stomping (the last one of which sounded as if it broke her neck), it would seem unlikely. However, despite this show's excellence, this is telenovela land, and she might make a miraculous recovery! Either way, El Colmillo should be dead meat now. Again, should. And I think this might be the third or fourth time I have said that Débora has gone too far. However, in the movie version of The Gardener, the main character was deported and made his way back to the US with great difficulty. Maybe Carlos will have to put his business in Santiago's hands while he hikes through the desert. Or maybe Lawyer Andrés and Mr. Jacob will save him.

Bajo
Thanks so much Novelera I was so confused with the jail scenes. I think the warden is dead, Fang stepped on her neck. Now he will be loose with a gun, should be interesting, Julio Bracho is a very good actor.

El senor
Kind of a let down final. I kept thinking, "so little time, so many people to kill".
Definite season 4 coming. I don't think Rutila & group are dead, they all ducked & it looks like the thing that was fired went though one window & out the other.

Sra. Acero
I for one will NOT be watching. I have od'ed on narco novelas, need a dry out period.
Besides, Blanca Soto is the worlds worst actor, she overdoes everything. Beauty only carries you so far, but has worked for her, so far. Tonight, 3 hrs of Sra. Acero, !Dios mio!

Bajo. Since he has that concealed gun, could El Colmillo break out of prison? Unlikely, but again, this is telenovela land.

PERLA--
deb, I'm sorry you lost most of Monday's episode. I'll do a quick highlight tour, but will have to do a >>FF before I can put down anything credible.

Oh, and a Correction. The last thing Franz said to Amelia in my amplifying remarks on Friday regarding choosing a path, was just my imagination. That's what I wanted him to say--that he chose her and their family. Instead, he said something to the effect that after doing everything his father wanted him to do, it was all wrong.

Yes, Silvia has ruined the harmony. She looks like a fish out of water in her stark black outfit and netted hat, alongside all the earthen colors of the monks robes.

BTW--that was a very old-fashioned camera Franz was taking pictures with. This is supposedly in 1945 or after. My father had a really nice 35mm Leica camera he bought new in 1932 right after he and my mother got married. He finally retired it in the 1980s--and then only because he stopped taking pictures.

Perla,

Anita- I should be fine, and it's just the last part after Silvia arrives, some stuff on Franz/Amelia/Silvia, but I get the idea.

Bajo,
I am familiar with immigration a bit. Illegals CAN get married if they have proper valid identification from their country of origin i.e. a valid Mexican passport(You can always get a passport from the consulate of your country of origin regardless if you are illegal here) and all the proof required of everyone else(If you are illegal you may not have a lease in your name, a driver's license may be a fake, a social security number may be a fake, a utility bill may be not be in your name therefore not proof of residence, proof of identity). But at least a green card or alien resident card is not required. Now, the reason most couples without papers do not get married is because if both are illegal it may be more difficult to acquire residency. Let's say one of the couple illegally crossed over the Mexican border and lived here for more than 6 months. This person can not get a green card unless they go back to Mexico and serve and ban of 3 years (10 years if they resided in the US a year or longer). The only way, to not go back and serve the ban is to file a waiver BUT most of the waivers require you to file it OUTSIDE the US;therefore, risking not being able to return if the waiver is not granted. If the other person overstayed a tourist visa(usually valid for a 6 month stay) this person may be able to get a green card by paying $1000 fine if they otherwise qualify for the green card. So if these issues are present for a couple there is no sense in getting married and risk not being able to get legal papers. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to explain a bit. Trust me I could write for days to explain how complex it is to live illegally here and or acquire legal papers.
Romy

Bajo

Romy, thanks a million for the post about the difficulties in getting married for undocumented persons. Here in California, undocumented drivers now can get a drivers license, but I was told by a co-worker that something on it identifies your license as somehow different from the standard one.

In my shock about what El Colmillo did in that cell, I somehow missed the thing about the gun. Has he had a gun all along, or did he take it off the guard he knocked out?

Bajo. Thanks for clarifying that, Romy. So it may just be that Carlos either doesn't have the additional supporting identification--like a drivers license, for instance, or he's just afraid of calling attention to himself. Btw, it seemed to me that Carlos said all of the necessary formulas to be married in the eyes of the Catholic Church (at least in the 16th century:)) if for some reason a couple could not have a wedding ceremony. Of course, couples were supposed to have at least one witness to their exchange of vows.

Bajo
My pleasure everyone. I came to the US at 14 years old so I am from an immigrant(recent) community. Thankfully, my mother sent for me legally therefore, I never experienced the pitfalls of being illegal. I know too many stories from acquaintances so Bajo resonates with me on a deeper level. Thanks for the wonderful recap even though I am watching I can not wait to read the recaps. So well done and entertaining.
Perla, Paz welcome!
Romy

Bajo. novelera: I think he took the guard's gun, and though I'm not sure, I think the guards who broke in didn't take it back, though I could be wrong. If there's going to be a jailbreak, though, it would be a reasonable plot device.

BAJO

Thanks so much, Novelera, for this much-needed 3-part summary. Comcast failed me again last night until 3/4 of the way through.

Excellent advice, SpanProf, with regard to Luis. Certainly all is not lost for him
if he gets on the ball and talks to more people.

In Florida, many people attended community college because they could not afford
more elaborate education, and then they went from there to a 4-year college and beyond.

Interestingly, though, in Florida and other states, many of the community colleges are converting to 4-year schools offering a full degree. For example, what was formerly Palm Beach Community College is now Palm Beach State College. This is only one example of many that have gone this route.

This riveting novela is stepping up in intensity with Rodgrigo's continued searching
for Adela and his own inner soul searching with regard to his life choices.

Thanks, Romy for the info on immigration details. I am glad that you are here with us on this website and also in this country -- although the US makes some bad decisions.

Listening to presidential candidates complain about other candidates speaking Spanish enfuriates me. All of them should be singing the praises of learning to speak at least one language other than their native language, as they do in Europe.

I did not start learning Spanish until very late in the game, and like Novelera,
and her forever Spanish class, I plan to study it in one way or another for the rest of my life. I have improved by many means, formal Spanish classes, CNN en espanol
on my car radio, telenovelas, and by listening to hundreds of songs sung by
José José.

Oh, our show is not on tonite; looking forward to next episode.

Enjoy all comments,

All the best.

Bajo
Thank you so much Romy.
Probably the illegals don't take advantage of health care, marriage, etc, is that they don't want to call attention to themselves.
I think Carlos has things going for him, a legal sister, Jacob & attorney in his corner, a US son.

Is Adela legal, I think so just not sure.

Bajo. Thanks, Floridia! Here in Illinois some community colleges collaborate with state universities to offer certain technical Bachelors' Degrees (like nursing) onsite at the community college. Others have articulated degrees so that a student at a community college can take an advanced class or 2 at the nearest state university at community college prices if the student has run out of classes he or she can take in that area. In our case, it means that students ready for 300-level Spanish classes after their freshman year (because of a background in high school Spanish) can come here for the next level class and not start out at a 4-year school behind in the major or minor or rusty in their Spanish skills.

PERLA--
deb, I'm going to post something longer for Monday's episode. If you have something for today, could you wait a bit longer? I should be done in a short while.

PERLA--
Monday Part I
Cabaret Business: Aurora breaks David's heart--or lowers his expectations. He sees Aurora wrap up the the show to great applause and men throng around her. Then he sees Manfred step up with a big bouquet of roses and Aurora takes his arm. David departs immediately. She later wonders why he didn't come back to the dressing room to greet her. Aurora brags to Joel (Mr. Sidekick) about her post show "date" with Manfred. He wanted to take her back to his rooms. Ha! But she's intrigued by the fact he's the director of the jewelry company. That will mean lots of jewels. Joel reminds her of Decio, he knows Manfred, so maybe she can recoup some of her lost money. She doesn't think she'll get any money back from Decio. She'll have to come up with some other way. When she mentions not having seen David, Joel says he was hoping Manfred would help her forget that "war hero."

Out strolling later on, Aurora is aware of someone following her. It's Pellezquito. He wants her to hear Odilon. There is an impromptu audition somewhere near. She likes his voice, but he needs to work on his English. She'll talk to Arlindho, but right now it's closed for a family funeral.

Lamentably Odilon gets caught by the police for being a vagabond and gets locked up. Pez takes off.

Lola and Fabricio: Lola is very sweet to Fabricio after their night together. He ask her to think about giving them an opportunity to be a couple. She agrees. But, instead she heads right for Manfred's place in a snit looking for that woman. Even though she doesn't find anyone, she's still angry about how he treats her, or mistreats her. Manfred, the iceberg, tells her if she doesn't like it, they can end it (yeah, like he really wants her back). She begins to whine and beg. She only wants him. Why don't they get married? He sneers in her face. It's over. She clings and begs some more. Not only does he reject her, he even packs her sorry looking little suitcase with her stuff and pushes her out the door. The cad slams the door behind her.

Toni and "Celia": They are still seeing each other. He's in love with her more every day. He's anxious to meet her parents and formalize their relationship. She puts him off. She needs time to soften up her father. He's very strict. Toni doesn't want to wait too long. He's afraid to lose her. Celia replies he won't lose her. She loves him. Back home, Hilda talks to Viktor, alone. He urges her to come clean with Toni. She says it's not that easy. Toni is in love with Celia, a simple girl who doesn't exist. How would he react knowing she's a Hauser. Viktor says if he really loves her, he won't leave her. Hilda is sure he's talking about himself and Silvia. He admits to it.

Celia has another date with Toni. It's arranged so that Decio drops her off and will pick her up later. Toni starts out talking about love and what it has meant for her to come into his life after all he lost and who the cause of all his misery was--Ernest Hauser. Hilda shrinks at the name when Toni calls him a monster. We leave them there for now.

Toni and Pez: Toni's mom finds Pez rummaging in the garbage and recognizes him as the kid who played futbol with Perla. She takes him home to feed him. Toni wants to help him, now that his "uncle" is in jail. He persuades Pez to tell him the truth. He admits Odilon is not his uncle. Toni says if they go to the authorities, maybe they will find him a real family. During the night, Pez takes off again.

Toni hunts for him everywhere and finally after talking to Odilon, learns that he ran off because he might be sent to an orphanage, a place he will not tolerate. (Ed. OK, he MIGHT be Giuseppe after all.) Toni finds where he's been hiding and takes him home.

PERLA--
Monday Part II
Ernest and Yolanda: She is still being held under lock and key in their bedroom. Ernest enters and praises her for the words she said to her father the night before. In return he wants her up and dressed to go somewhere special. That happens to be Mundo's place where he is recuperating from cracked ribs and the beat-down he got from Ernest's paid thugs. He drags her in and forces her to repeat what she said to Wenceslau. Mundo begs her not to. Although in no condition to do so, he says he will protect her. Ernest squeezes Yolanda's arm tighter. Looking down at the floor, she finally says in sotto voce, Ernest is her husband and her place is by his side. He's not to come looking for her again.

Manfred: He's making great headway with Aurora. Lola is keeping an eye on them, though. Manfred comes to Aurora's hotel room. She shoos Joel out. He gives Aurora a ring hidden in a single rose. They begin to smooch. Can't tell with the fade-out if he spent the night.

PERLA--
Monday Part III
At the Monastery: (Ed. There's no way to do justice to these scenes. They have to be viewed.) Perla is learning to speak and write Tibetan from Lama Sonan and Jampa. She tells her parents it is boring. She wants to learn with the other young monks and play futbol with them. They just run away from her when she tries. Her parents try to explain they aren't used to playing with a girl. She wants to leave. Franz and Amelia tell her everyone in the monastery community will be very sad if she leaves now. She agrees to stay. Perla tells her parents the best thing about being at the monastery is this is the first time all three are living together at the same time. The parents look at each other as Perla puts their hands together. Amelia goes to talk to Lama Sonan. He had been examining the hankie Matilde had given him and quickly hides it as Amelia enters> They arrange for Perla to attend class with the youngest boys and play futbol with them.

Amelia tells Franz she learned from Perla she was responsible for Silvia's missing passport. Franz laughingly says he suspected it. He's happy it happened. She playfully pushes him away, still smiling, that they can never be a family. Still, they are enjoying being together outside, relating to each other comfortably. He's taking pictures of her.

In the courtyard, Franz and Amelia are amazed as they watch Perla begin an impromptu dance which the monks were engaged in and seemingly knew all the steps and movements. Lama Sonan then approaches Franz and Amelia to tell them it has been decided to present Perla to the monastery community formally in a very special ceremony. It's a beautiful ceremony. The three Brazilians have been dressed in traditional Tibetan robes, Perla in an orange robe like the monks. The last thing she does is to wrap the symbolic white scarf, first around her mother, then around her father.

After the ceremony, still in their robes, Franz takes Amelia cross the courtyard and he takes her aside up in the archway of one of the temple buildings. He repeats over and over that he loves her, has ever only loved her. They begin to kiss, deeply, lovingly, and as she puts her arms around him she accepts his kisses and kisses him back. Perla sees them from across the courtyard and smiles with pleasure. The bliss doesn't last long. Amelia pulls them apart. She repeats they can't do this. He's married. He keeps telling her his marriage to Silvia was a mistake. Amelia says it changes nothing. She runs away while Franz is yelling after her, don't do this, don't do this.

Perla tries to fix things between them again. In the evening, while in his sleeping quarters, Perla begs her father to read to her from a storybook. Even if he can't read Tibetan, he can describe the pictures. Amelia comes in to say goodnight, but Perla begs her to stay and listen to the story. At first she won't, but then she does. Perla arranges them on the bed, tells her father to scoot down and puts herself in between them, nestled in her mother's arms. The adults soon fall asleep and Perla crawls away, but not before taking the book and putting her mother's arm across her father's. When they wake they find themselves together, alone.

Amelia is about to bolt, but Franz persuades her to stay with words of love and more kisses. She yields and tells him she loves him. In daylight, they greet the morning looking out at the mountain landscape wrapped tightly together in a blanket. He promises to resolve their difficulties soon. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her.

PERLA--
Monday Part IV

THEN SILVIA ARRIVES. She's the only one smiling as she approaches, but her smile is glued on. Franz, Amelia and Perla see her crossing the courtyard with Tenpa behind her. Franz can't do anything as she plants a big one on his closed lips and asks if he missed her. She sure missed him.

After Silvia is shown her quarters, Amelia barges in, absolutely furious. Why is Silvia here? Silvia knows Franz loves her. Still smiling, Silvia says tough noogies, she's there to accompany her HUSBAND on this trip. She makes some inflammatory comments about Amelia's background--she probably doesn't even know how to hold a fork, among other things--calls her a whore who is no more than a mistress. Amelia clocks her one and they start tussling. This brings Franz running to see what the commotion was. He's sure Silvia provoked Amelia and he follows Amelia out, leaving Silvia to stew in her own sour juice.

Perla is pretty pithed at Tenpa for bringing Silvia. Lama Sonan tries to moderate her negative feelings. He says, what's done is done. It can be something positive or something negative. They will just have to see.

Amelia and Franz have words in her room. She wants to be alone and pushes him out. Alone, she cries out her bitterness and sadness. Later, Franz finds Amelia sitting on some steps in the courtyard. She doesn't want to be with him in case his wife sees them together. She gets up She says it's not correct. Franz comes right back with, what is correct or not correct. They love each other. Wordlessly, she turns and walks away.

Perla,

Anita- wow, above and beyond !!!
and I so love reading your posts!
and isn't this such an easy novela to watch, and to comment on.

alas, just watched today's recording, didn't quite make an hour before the Pope cut in,

did Perla and her friend put that frog in Silvia's room,
and the monks were worried about the frog.

and that cute little Perla can sure do a "QUE??????????????",
when Silvia made her big announcement, embarazada,
I felt Buddha roll over in Nirvana after that one.

oh but Yoyo (what Yolanda's friends call her) really is, but really, who's baby is this, I'm thinking Ernest doesn't care, as long as it carries his name.

and Amelia, my heart cries for her, Franz is the best/worst thing that ever happened to her, so much grief including 10 years in prison, and Franz is still getting knocked off course, we'll have to see if the monk's are right, things happen for a reason, some are good and some are bad, did I get that right?

and the stamp, which was thrown in the garbage, was it the first ever postal stamp, sold for a price that had more zeros behind it than anyone had ever seen, or maybe not after Aurora takes her 50% cut, the cabaret is saved.

TELEMUNDO...

ok I watched Senora Acero, please don't make fun of me,
(do you mean I could have watched the 2 hour special and skipped the first season?)

but what did I see, ah, during the breaks,

"La querida del Centauro", a short promo with a 2016, (hmm, following Senora Acero?)

"Celia" begins Tuesday 13th

Senora Acero
deb-I watched every episode of the first season. I certainly won't make fun ;-)

Celia
Thank you for the information about Celia. When I opened up my Telemundo app this morning I saw that three episodes were up for viewing the the air date for the first one was Sept 18. I was confused! I guess they are just generating interest. I am looking forward to that one.

Perla
Sadly, I had to give up Perla. There is not enough time in the day and I'm trying to juggle 5 novelas right now. With two hour blocks every day, it made it even harder to try and keep up.

PERLA--
Sara, I'm sad, too. One less watcher to reach. I hope you have a chance sometime in the future to go back and watch it. It has so few beanie moments and it's lovely to watch (Franz is easy on the eyes, too.

deb, it seems to me TM channel is playing around with Perla. Monday it was 1 1/2 hours, Tuesday it was 1, today is 1 1/2, tomorrow it's back to 2.

Yes, Perla and her new friend put the frog in Silvia's bed. She was really swatting at it. The monks were concerned with the frog, as he represented some person she might have known in a past life.

I don't think Silvia was really pregnant when she made her announcement to the whole community--rather than in private to Franz. When the Tibetan doctor told her she was, on the basis of taking her pulse--she was certainly shocked.

I was hoping Ernest would be more shocked when he found out Yolo was pregnant. But he was in the company of the doctor and Gertudis and so he put on a proud face, only because I think he knows he couldn't be the father. OTOH, he's only 60 and probably not only potent, but forced relations on Yolo. Sleeping in the same bed would make it that much easier for him. But then we see him overhear Yolo telling Laura it's Mundo's baby. She managed for 10 years not to get pregnant by Ernest--and yes, there was pre and post contraception in the 1940s.
More later.

AVENIDA BRASIL

I can't imagine how they're going to wrap up these storylines and aubplots in a few episodes!
Love this tn and will really miss it once it is gone. Shame more people weren't watching it, it's a corker!

~ Wee Rita

Avenida
@Wee Rita, I think it's because this is a second run a lot people watch the first time. But, I am enjoying the second ride too and this time hubby is in for it. He is in awe of Carminha, lol
Perla
The scenes in Tibet are beautiful. What will Ernest do with the baby? I am afraid for the outcome. Silvia, may keep Frantz with this pregnancy but she will never win his love ever.
Romy

PERLA--
Romy, re Silvia and Franz and new baby. Yes, he's sunk, especially if the baby is Viktor's.

Without modern DNA technology in the mid 40s, there was no way to determine, other than what the baby looks like later in life, who the daddy is. I guess that's why the matriarchal line is more important than the patriarchal in some societies. Mama can name whoever she wishes as the daddy. And, if it's born to her within a marriage, almost universally the child belongs to the husband of the mother (even in telenovelas). (Also seee Maury Povitch and co. for more on this topic!) (Also, anecdotally, women in the 17th & 18th C. (and possibly before and after) Europe, were more likely to take lovers AFTER they were married, in case they got pregnant.

It's more complicated, even when there is DNA testing, to determine paternity between brothers (see Reina de Corazones--although I think they stretched the truth a bit). Extra testing is needed in this case.

Perla was very obviously unhappy and put out with this turn of events. She declared this was not going to be a sibling (hermanito) for her. Who are we to argue with Ananda Rinpoche, eh? The monks tried to change her attitude by talking about life is good. We'll see how that goes tonight!

PERLA--
Oh, I hated the way Ernest forced Yolo to tell Mundo the baby was Ernest's, to his face, after he broke through the guards and made his way in to the mansion. He came to find out how Yolo was after she had fainted when they came to his place before. Instead of throwing him out, Ernest brought Yolo down. She wouldn't look at him as she said those fateful words. He asked her to look him in the eyes and say it. She wouldn't.

Mundo can't know it's his or he'll go berserk, kill Ernest and die in the process. Yolo understands that, hence her dilemma with Laura.

My heart went out to Amelia. After such a love she and Franz have, she doesn't deserve this. How much more can she take? Maybe her one night of love with Franz she will end up pregnant, too--or is that too much to hope for.

Perla
Yes, no way to determine paternity so Frantz is stuck. I am surprised they were sleeping together. I mean if you love Amelia why sleep with Silvia? Wife or not but that's a man for you. So in a way I don't feel bad for Frantz. If they were not sleeping together Silvia could not have pass that baby as his, no? I am sure given a choice Yolo would never sleep with Ernest because she loves Mundo.
Romy

Perla,

it looks like Ernest knows for sure Yolanda's baby is not his, so maybe they have not been sleeping together.

loved Perla curing Mundo, this seemed to involve a vision he had that Yoyo's baby is his, which gave him hope.

Volpina after talking with lama Sonan, spills to Valter and Amelia, but wow, she didn't reveal Manfred or his dirty tricks guy, but only blamed Ernest, and when Amelia went to Franz, he refuses to believe that his father is a murderer, and never got that he was the one that sent Amelia to prison.

and I think Silvia is sure her baby is Viktor's but she's not letting it out, she sure didn't like being at the monastery surrounded by so many nice people.

Perla

the original "Joia Rara " was 173 chapters and the international release was cut to 110, so we are almost 1/4 way at 26.

PERLA--
Romy, ten years is a long time for a healthy young man to go without officially sanctioned sex (I don't think Franz is the sort who would rely on prostitutes or take a lover on the side). Not to excuse that, but, remember, Silvia really threw herself into the seduction role after Amelia went to prison, by getting close to Perla. Franz thought he was doing the right thing for Perla by marrying Silvia. At the time no one other than Manfred thought she was a rattlesnake.

What I don't get is how the divorce was made so easy when Franz & Amelia were married in the Church--annulment, maybe because one of the couple is in prison?

Silvia keeps claiming she raised Perla for 10 years (during the custody hearings), but although we didn't witness it, I don't think she truly "raised" Perla. Someone else was taking care of her. We did see one single scene where she grabs Perla and says that now we're going to do things my way, for good or bad. It wasn't until Amelia was released from prison did she start her bizarre behavior to keep him from seeing Amelia alone.

Bajo

I'll do a short recap tonight.

Bajo el mismo cielo... Wednesday, epi 39

Luis makes up a story about Mati saving him the second time, Rodrigo thinks it's strange, but Mati also saved Greicy and his future baby, we owe her don't you think, Rodrigo tells Luis.

mister Jacob comes to see Carlos, he's worried that his daughter is in danger being around Rodrigo, Carlos puts him at ease, telling him the truth about Rodrigo being back, but that he loves his brother and would never hurt him, has a job, etc, and has never met Susi.

Deborah tells her friend about turning Carlos in, calls it "the Final Solution" (wasn't that Hitler's line for the Jews).

Mati goes to see the Padre about getting the scar removed, he recognizes it as being the mark of one who betrayed the gang, she sees that he has a whole setup for giving gang members a new start, Mati tells her story, and that the scar inside her will never be erased, the Padre says come back in the morning.

Colmillo did kill the Warden and her Chief of Security, and is now wearing a 'Hannibal' mask and is strapped to a chair, his guard buddy gets him aside, Colmillo says to tell Faier to get me out of here, they'll (guards) kill me if I stay, later on the street the guard tells Rodrigo, who reminds the guard he knows where his kids go to school.

Rodrigo swings by the clubhouse to let everyone know they have a new job, we owe him, (I don't think Willy agrees) Willy asks what happens if everything doesn't go right, then we will either be in killed or be in jail.

Rodrigo also mentions that Colmillo killed the Warden because they had too much on him about killing that snitch and Jay gets this worried look in his eyes (that is if he still has some)

Felicia is whining to Ximena about facing her pregnancy alone, she wants to sell the bar, (good luck with that)

Cristobal comes home to the "perfect" couple, Rudolfo/Chabela, where have you been Rudolfo asks, and after hearing what they told Maria, no way is he on board, as a matter of fact Chabela is out of here tomorrow.

Flag must be undocumented, as he barks at the migra who have arrived at Carlos house but in plain clothes, parking their cruiser down the street, Luis tells them Carlos is not home.

Carlos is out celebrating his new life with Adela, with the new couple Santiago and Juana, they drink and dance, things could not be better for Carlos (not a good sign in a novela)

and Adela is thinking losing the scar (laser surgery) will free her from her fears and worries.

Maria quizzes Felicia about her brother, does he have a wife, does he have a kid, no way with out telling me Felicia says.

Rodrigo goes home early, asks Greicy to forgive him, she deserves a better man, (tomorrow is the jail break)

(and there is a scene where Rodrigo is going back to looking at Mati in the shower, zeroing on the scar, but he stops himself before he/we can see it)

next day

Rodrigo, Willy and Jay hijack an ambulance, Jay kills the EMTs, Rodrigo warns him about not following orders, Jay tells him they saw our faces (maybe they were blind Jay)

Colmillo's guard is unhooking cameras, gives Gacho this thing that wraps around your knuckles with 2 inch steel nails which he uses to take out a guard while the bad guard frees Colmillo and takes over the guard station.

as the bad guys are running amok, the migra return to Carlos house and give him two options, show us your documents, or tell us where Rodrigo is, Luis runs to his help, thankfully locking the door to prevent the frantic Adela from doing the same since she is also undocumented, what to do, what to do, she calls Maria,

as they take Carlos away...

BAJO

Fantastic recap, deb! I'm finally back home, and this was the first episode I've been able to see. However, I missed a lot of the dialogue, and I'm so glad I was able to find out what was said from your recap.

I love your comments, but I'm racing to get ready to leave for a meeting so I won't quote any. I do want to say that I was puzzled that Luis didn't get more concerned when Flag kept barking. He's lived with Flag for years--doesn't he realize what we on CarayCaray figured out almost at once, namely, that Flag can sense trouble before humans can, and his barking is a reliable warning? Oh well....

Gotta run. Again, MANY THANKS!!

Bajo. Excellent recap, Deb! What is Rodrigo thinking? Doesn't he realize that El colmillo's getting killed by the guards or executed for a double murder would solve most of his problems? Whereas, if he leads a jailbreak, there's no way he can ever be redeemed, even if he didn't personally kill the emts. Yep, I knew things were going too well for Carlos. Is a hike through the desert in his future or will his lawyer and Mister Jacob or even his sister María get him out of this mess? And what about Luis? Despite Debora's hopes, I don't see him going back to Mexico with Carlos. And, yes, that final solution remark of Débora's has to be a conscious comparison to the nazis and a way to underline how evil she is. I can see that Susy has started her scheming to get Luis a college education--at Mr. Jacob's expense?

AVENDA BRASIL

@Romy... Yes, I guess you're right about it being a second run. But it is so good! Although Telemundo is clearly chopping it to blades 😡
The actress playing Carminha is amazing. I truly believe that is her, lol!

Bajo. My post was removed? Why?

Bajo. Whoops! Just delayed. Sorry about that, folks.

Bajo
@SpanProf, if the show is realistic then Maria being legal cannot help Carlos now. She has to be a US citizen to file for a sibling not a green card holder. If she is a citizen then she would have to file and have the application approved. Let me tell you the waiting time for Mexican citizens as of today:

Fourth: (F4) Brothers and Sisters of Adult U.S. Citizens: 65,000, plus any numbers not required by first three preferences. Carlos is in 4th preference.

Family-Sponsored All Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed

CHINA-mainland born INDIA MEXICO PHILIPPINES
F4 15JAN03 15JAN03 15JAN03 15MAR97 01MAR92

Mexico they are processing applications filed on March 17, 1997.
As for Luis he can not file for Carlos until he is 21 years old.

Deb: Thanks for the heads up on the older AB recaps. I'll look for them.

Romy: Thanks for the warm welcome!

Bajo. Hi, Romy: Then it would appear that another desert trek may be in order--and yet another opportunity for Gabriel Porras to exercise his acting chops!

Bajo

Like Juanita, I'm about to be in one of those pesky meetings. Just wanted to thank Deb so much for putting up a recap. I also do shorter ones when pressed for time. I think sometimes people hesitate to join a recapping team because they think it has to be really all-inclusive. My experience has been that just hitting the highlights opens the door for commenters to chime in.

SpanProf, ITA about Rod getting El Colmillo out. But I guess he knew there'd be family members dropping like flies if he didn't obey orders. And Willy? Made no sense he'd be riding shotgun instead of more seasoned gang members. Maybe the actor is guaranteed a certain number of lines!

Bajo

And lest I forget, I have book club tonight and a birthday dinner (not mine) for a friend Friday night, so my Monday recap will have to be it for me this week.

Re PP

Oooo! Anita, thanks for the Preciosa summary!

Question: What is the relationship between Hilda and Decio?

I loved all the scenes in the Himalaya in the monastery.

Bajo. About Willy riding shotgun? Maybe Rodrigo sees him as the gang's most expendable member. :)

Perla,
Paz, you are welcome. I am happy you are here. Ernest and Decio's dads agreed to marry them but Hilda and Decio made a pact to pretend to be novios and go along with the engagement so the parents get off their backs. Hilda to continue to see Tony as Celia and Decio to be a man about town.

In its entirety, the "Final Solution" consisted of gassings, shootings, random acts of terror, disease, and starvation that accounted for the deaths of about six million Jews -- two-thirds of European (From Wiki)

I recognized that reference, and although, I read that the F.S. began in stages, it ultimately ended in extermination. So, I think that the writers made an extreme comparison.

Thanks, Deb for another terrific recap. I decided that I did not like captions.
Some nights are better than others without them. This one had some challenging
sections that you helped clarify.

Romy or anyone else, doesn't it seem a little too fast to act on Deborah's request
what with the backup of work existing? (I know; it's a TN ) And didn't Deborah make the call from her home phone? Couldn't that identify her? She claims that she is not an idiot.

Exciting show - lots of twists and turns.

Thanks again..

Bajo

I'll try and do tonight's recap,
but tomorrow is open.

Bajo el mismo cielo... thursday, epi 40
part 1

a good guy gets taken to jail while the bad guys break out of another!

Maria arrives but is no help to Carlos, and the big question from the migra is, where is Rodrigo? (would they let Carlos go if they caught Rodrigo?)

Adela calls mister Jacob, who is looking pretty sharp, on the way to an important meeting, he'll come right over, and No Susi, with the red lips, you can't come, (what happened to her car) , but he did tell Susi it was because of an anonymous tip, and he will find out from who.

the question is where will they take Carlos, Nick throws in that he knows people who are still looking for relatives months later.

Maria calls Rudolfo pleading with him to get a hold of Cristobal, but he doesn't, can't have Maria finding out about Chabela.

Adela, Luis, Maria, Juana, and Santi, try to figure out what to do, agree to not mention Rodrigo because it will only make things worse for Carlos.

mister Jacob arrives to help, he wonders why Carlos was picked up because ICE is so busy they go after groups of people, or those connected with a crime, Maria and Adela look suspiciously at each other, but won't tell him they were looking for Rodrigo.

Colmillo's paid guard is playing the prison like a fiddle, moving here and there setting things up, the wounded guards are taken to the infirmiry, where Colmillo and Gacho, in guard uniforms also arrive, awaiting the ambulance, Rodrigo takes off his shades showing Gloria (Greicy's old boss) who he is, but throws in that he knows where her kids go to school, Colmillo kills her anyway, along with everyone else that was there. smearing blood on himself, (5 in all died I think Rodrigo later said, who had planned the jailbreak so no one would be killed)

Jay's gang stops the real ambulance on the way, (who gave that blind guy a gun)

the bad guys all pile in the ambulance, but didn't bother to stop at the gate this time since the guards were shooting at them, and away they go, (say, did they call the ambulance because it was guards that were hurt, because they didn't call one for the guy that died from Rod's beating)

Greicy visits Felicia for tea, tells Feli that both her and Rod support her in being with Carlos, the Rod part kind of makes Feli's head roll around, and on the way to the bathroom, nurse Greicy spots the meds, (for high risk pregnancy) and wants to tell Carlos, but Felicia swears her to secrecy.

Carlos is put in a holding facility, where others are waiting, and waiting, and waiting.

Bajo el mismo cielo... thursday, epi 40
part 2

Colmillo is taken to the clubhouse, for some food, drink, and women, and this is where he'll stay, Rod is fixing up a room real nice for him, Colmillo thanks him for getting him out, then reminds him of finding Adela, no more slacking,

Jay is confused that Colmillo doesn't know him, since they talked (not) at the prison.

Adela sent Nick out for some tea and we never saw him again, Juana and Santi are sent off to work, Adela and Maria go to find Cristobal.

Luis finally gets through to Rod, and gives him the word, Rodrigo rushes home only to hear how the migra came looking for him, and how Rod is the only one not trying to help, "wish you would have died rather than come back", water off a duck's back for Rod, because Luis' rants aren't getting anything done.

Carlos' being detained is news to Cristobal, didn't Rudolfo call you, Maria wants to know, but the ICE is federal and above the police so he doesn't know if he can help find Carlos, running out of hope, Adela has one more card to play, first finds there is no news on her mom, before leaving.

Adela shows up at the church, yes I do know some people in immigration, let me get my telephone book, the Padre says/leaves, Adela prays,

Carlos' name finally gets called, he gets his picture taken, fingerprints and asked to sign in a box, then for his interview, it's the guy that brought him in, can't I have someone else do this, Carlos asks, nope, I'm in charge of your case, and he tells of the prison break to free the leader of la Colonia, and what does that have to do with me, Carlos asks, your hijo is la Colonia, was in that prison and we suspect he was in charge of that operation, the ICE man says.

and who else should show up at the church but Rodrigo who remembers his mother bringing him there to light a candle, reminding him "there is always light at the end of the tunnel", "if you ever lose your way, search for him, pray to god and the virgin".

but Adela pops up behind him with a similar rant that Luis did, does blaming me make you feel better, Rod, says, go ahead, I can take it, then he sets her straight, don't you think that if they were after me they would have come to MY house, no, this is being done to harm Carlos...

Bajo. Excellent recap, Deb! After those 5 deaths, even though Rodrigo didn't personally kill them there's no way he gets out of this telenovela alive! It was really dumb to identify himself to the nurse too. They took El Colmillo to the clubhouse, where he's going to live? What were they thinking?!!! The police don't know where it is? It wouldn't be the first place they'd look? Hmmmm.

AVENIDA BRASIL

Just catching up via dvr. Lol at Dolores stripping at her wedding! You stay classy, Divino! Are we supposed to think she was hypnotized by that music or something?

~ Wee Rita

Bajo
@Floridia, in real life there would be no action. I actually have known people who called immigration on someone( she discovered he was cheating and called as revenge) You know what she was told? They don't have the staff to chase people. Most people get caught because of something else, a traffic stop, a dispute and police called and from there downhill. A lady just got caught after she presented a false driver's license at the doctor's office. Jacob said it unless you're a criminal immigration rarely seek you out nowadays. In my mother's time they used to raid factories all the time now unless the factories are investigated for some infractions, rarely. But, in a novela, they do, lol.
Romy

Bajo

Thanks so much, Deb. Great job on the recap. I love your sharp eye for the continuity errors. Yep, what DID happen to Susy tooling around in that convertible? I guess it was just so we could see Luis gob smacked at his first sight of her.

I don’t think they’d necessarily let Carlos go if they found Rodrigo. Remember that Deborah’s way to convince ICE to grab up Carlos was that she convinced them he’s harboring Rodrigo. So just the fact of his protecting a criminal son who crossed the border illegally again after being deported would be enough reason apparently to deport Carlos.

I get the distinct feeling that Chabela is on the verge of dumping Rodolfo. She was completely disgusted that he was willing to protect his two-woman little world at the cost of his brother-in-law getting any possible help from Cristóbal.

I thought the scene where Luis lights into his brother was very well acted. Every word he said was true, including the fact that Carlos would have been far better off if Rod died in prison. And he even went after his brother physically when Rod tried to come up with the “I won’t permit anyone to talk to me that way” line.

Gah, can they just have El Colmillo go down in a hail of bullets narconovela style ¡Y ya!

Didn’t El Colmillo even lick some of the blood off either his hand or the knife in addition to smearing it on his forehead? They showed a tiny bit of humanity in Rod when he asked the monster if it was really necessary to kill five people during the prison break.

Deb, I also liked “Who gave that blind guy a gun?” Yep, that is one of the truly ridiculous parts of the novela that Jay is up to his eyeballs in the action when he supposedly can’t see.

The actor playing Maria was VERY convincing in her reaction to her brother’s being grabbed up, tears streaming down her fact and attacking Jacob until she found out who he was.

And, as is often the case, Rodrigo is the smartest guy in the room. He’s sure they could have found him if he was the one they were really after. He figured out that the real target was his father. Please, please let Deborah’s treachery be revealed sooner rather than later!

AVENIDA B--
Wee Rita--You are in for a greater pleasure, watching Carminha squirm and try to twist her way out of Tifon's confrontations.

I can't believe it's almost over. It's been a great production, but surely Adriana Esteves must be exhausted. She's been in practically every scene doing some dramatic acting, acting dramatically.

PERLA--
deb--I'm going to try to summarize the last three nights sometime this weekend. Stay tuned everybody who is enchanted by this production. Did you notice they updated the beach scenes and the cars in the period b&w shots between scenes, but the guy selling brooms for the house is still the same one as in 1934!

BAJO

Deb, thanks again for filling in all that I missed. I took off captions; think I need to return to them. This was certainly an action-packed episode. Yes, I think that no matter how noble Rod may become eventually, he is doomed, but there will be the baby to live out a life with his good traits.

Felicia's actions are rather intriguing - certainly not the usual -- tell the galan immediately type thing -- it must be extremely distressing to think that Willy is most likely the father. I liked the way she said the baby was even more important to her than Carlos. She really wants a baby.

SpanProf, Oh to live in a luxury lair! With big screen tv coming as a bonus!
I wonder what this guy's end game is? At least the Columbian drug lords can indulge themselves with all the amenities one could ever want. Perhaps, he wants Adela gone before he moves on. By the way, no clues to El Chapo?

Romy, thanks for your response. It seemed quite unrealistic to me. And speaking of raiding factories, which I can see would have been frightening, there are entire communities now - not far from me where undocumented workers live, and no one is bothering them. Thank goodness.

All the best to all,

PP

Romy: Thanks for explanation
Anita: Looking forward to reading your summary! :-)

~ Paz

Bajo. Novelera: Absolutely right about Rodrigo figuring out what's really going on and that Carlos was the real target all along. I too wonder how long it will take for people to be on to Débora.

Bajo

Deb, thanks for the gripping recap. I haven't been able to watch this episode yet, but I'm hoping I'll still be able to do so.

I really liked the way you started off the recap, with the ironic parallel of good guy Carlos being locked up in jail while bad guy El Colmillo is escaping from jail.

I'm wondering/hoping that the fact that ICE went to Carlos' house to find Rodrigo rather than to Rodrigo's apartment will help someone in addition to Rodrigo connect the dots.

Romy, I'm so glad that you're contributing to this discussion. Your comments add depth to what we see in the novela.

Bajo

I'm chiming in with Juanita and Paz in thanking you, Romy. It adds a lot to the novela to know the facts about what really goes on with La Migra.

Bajo. Add my voice to novelera's Juanita's and Paz's, Romy. Good to get an update on La Migra.

Perla

Anita- love your summaries.

love the way the scenes start in black & white, and then the color is dialed in.

say, I heard there was no east coast show on Friday, west coast got one hour and I did a little summary of it, should I wait to post that?

PERLA--
deb-About 15 min. were cut at the beginning for the Pope, but I'm going to watch the whole thing on Xfinity. My broadcast also went black just where Mundo and Yolanda were talking, then when it came back on, there was no sound until she left. Grrrr.

If you are in the mood, do put up a post. It certainly helps me with recall. My heart aches for Amelia, but they are both being stubborn. Why couldn't she just agree to supervised visits, or that Ernest could see Perla in a neutral location. When she made her decision, she didn't bother to take Perla's feelings for her other abuelo into consideration.

Bajo. Very exciting episode! I love how everyone is rallying around and trying to reach Carlos before he is sent to the next holding facility. Also it was pretty cool how everyone eventually figured out that it was Debora who had ratted out Carlos. First Rodrigo suspected, and very logically convinced Mati that it was unlikely to have been Felicia, then Luis suspected, then Mr. Jacob put 2 and 2 together, confronted Debora, and she completely freaked out. It looks as if she may have od'ed on her sedatives. Greicy got very upset about the murder of her former supervisor--another step in Rodrigo's realization of what real-world consequences his gang activities have--especially for those he cares about. Now we know for sure that he fantasizes about Mati--as he kissed Greicy he was visualizing Mati.

Bajo
I am happy to contribute. Feel free to ask any questions and if I know the answer I will explain and I I don't know I will consult with some of my friends who are immigration lawyers. Carlos could marry Felicia as a quicker way to legalize himself. He may still have to leave and file the waiver but if it's granted he would be back quicker. If he can prove extreme hardship to his loved one, Felicia's high risk pregnancy, a minor US citizen son, Luis, whom he has custody of, he may be allowed to stay here and file the waiver while the papers are being processed.

Preciosa Perla... friday

Amelia signs the papers Franz brought, I think he tells Perla she can sleep over at the mansion 2 times a week.

while at the mansion, Perla asks Ernest why he, Franz, and Amelia are always fighting, it wasn't that way at the monastery until Silvia came, my papa loves my mama, not Sivlia, and Silvia overhears this and when they are alone she pretty much tells Perla to knock it off.

Hilda tells Silvia she was the only one who knew about her meeting Toni, are you accusing me, Silvia asks, ah no, and Silvia convinces her to go to Toni, Silvia really enjoys stirring things up.

Hilda meets Toni, asks forgiveness, convinces him she will give up everything to be with him, they spend the night together, and in the morning Toni talks to her about Gaia, how much he loves her, Hilda understands, but he then says it's time to let it go, and takes off his wedding ring, then asks Hilda to marry him, but what about my father, Toni says that's his problem, she accepts.

the next day Gert tells Ernest that Hilda did not sleep in the house, and in walk Toni and Hilda, this doesn't go so well, Toni is kicked out and Ernest drags Hilda to her room, gets her to admit she slept with him, beats her with his belt, and has her locked in her room.

Ernest, Valter, and Decio meet at the club, he wants the wedding as soon as possible, they toast (but no one drinks).

Franz goes to Hilda, comforts her, and later gets his dad to let her out, and tells him to never hit her again.

jump ahead a month,

Perla's schooling is no longer being paid for, she is sent home, Amelia refuses to take any of Ernest's dirty money and she won't ask Franz for help, she looks for work and takes Hilda's job at the cabaret, the lawyer warns her that might be a problem with custody of Perla, be careful.

Amelia's cousin Zefa cares for Perla during the day, takes her to the cabaret, oh no, and Aurora meets her before Amelia gets her out of there, later Aurora tells Manfred who goes to Amelia's to check it out, Zefa flirts with him but he starts making eyes at Amelia who shuts that down and eases him out the door, then on to Ernest with the news.

Silvia has found Pilar (who runs the Hauser jewelry store) sympathetic to her revenge, and talks to her about Gertrudis, and the death of Cathrine (Ernest's wife).

Toni grabs Decio, he has a proposal, Decio starts courting Hilda, bringing her messages.

also Julieta, the mansion maid is sympathetic to Hilda, calls Gert a bruja.

Deb: Thanks SO much for the summary. That was a lot packed in. Can't believe we missed so much. Wow! So Ernest beat Hilda, huh? *shakes head* He certainly seems to have a way with women.

Anita: I think you're right that Amelia didn't take Perla's feelings about seeing Ernest into consideration. And that's too bad. I understand how she feels but in these matters, when a child is involved, they always have to take into consideration what is best for the child. Seems like co parenting between Amelia and Franz has totally broken down. She won't even ask Franz for help with Preciosa's schooling needs? Come on. Amelia is definitely going to find herself in hot water, as her lawyer correctly advised her.

Greicy is like that screeeching sound made with fingernails on a blackboard (if you can find one), and why is Rodrigo with her, that's right she is pregnant, and we get to see that Rodrigo has family values, (ah but if he would have watched LRdS he would know that in the world of gangs, having a family makes you vulnerable), and of course he likes Mati, they are a perfect match, and it would destroy them both, where on the other hand, Carlos is the cure.

Bajo. And isn't it odd, since Greicy is a nurse, that she hasn't noticed Rodrigo's amateurishly-repaired wound?

BAJO,

Another terrific episode showing Rodrigo as a complex, intriguing character.
So, Jacob is fed up, and Greicy is jealous, but let's not be too harsh on her.
Her vibes are sending off accurate signals.

Was there a reason El Feier had to identify himself in the prison?

I'm making a quick trip to MA & NH, so I will not comment again until Wed. or Thurs.
I did check, however, to learn that there will be Telemundo where I am staying.

Always enjoying the comments..

All the best,

Bajo

What you guys said! How can Gracie miss Rod's healing bullet wound? And they even showed him shirtless. Oh well, people always heal fast in telenovelas.

Deb, great minds think alike! Rod, if he were not a card-carrying gang member and hadn't ordered the death of her brother, would be a great match for Adela. They're both quick witted, have a dry sense of humor and are closer to each other's age.

I was surprised they finally got off being ambiguous and showed Rod having a bit of a yen for Adela. I had just about decided my gut feelings were wrong. I think he does love Gracie. She's his touchstone for being a reformed character. And, of course, she's expecting his child. But by whining all the time, she's pushing him away. He's drawn to Adela's strength, as well as her obvious physical attributes!

From my experience working with so many people from Mexico I've been told that, if you are deported and come back (breaking the law again), you can never qualify for becoming legal. So I think there's going to be a miracle intervention, either by Padre Domingo or Jacob's lawyer. I really doubt they'd go with Carlos remaining undocumented at the end of this novela.

Unlike Jacob, I WANT Susy to know what her mother did.

I suppose the OD, from which she'll recover, will cause Jacob to forgive her. I'll never forgive her!

Oh boy, Felicia told Cristóbal that the baby was Carlos'. So he'll likely go straight to Carlos, assuming my theory is correct and he's not deported, and demand that he do the right thing by his sister.

PERLA--

Review of Tue Sep 22, Part 1

Sorry this is taking longer than I thought. I may only do Wed & Thu, since deb gave a pretty good recap of Friday. Here goes:

Franz, Amelia and Perla are still at the monastery, recently joined by Silvia. She’s in her room fighting a toad in her bed, put there as a prank by Perla and Norbu (?). The trio of monks hurry to save the toad. Franz follows them in and laughs at Silvia when the monks explain that in a former life the toad might have been one of her forefathers.

[Perdón, but I’m not going to recount what goes on in the cabaret unless in involves the principal characters. Except to say the jewelry grandma left was fake, but the Penny Black stamp is very rare and it and the rest of the stamps are worth enough $$$ to reopen the cabaret, even with Aurora taking a 50% cut.]

Tony and Hilda/Celia. After another great Italian home-cooked meal, Tony announces that Pez will be living with them permanently. He is filled with joy as he looks across at Celia. Mama inappropriately mentions that all Pez needs now is a mother. Tony, still looking at Celia says that should be no problem if Celia marries him—but first he needs to meet her daddy and ask for her hand. Celia’s not so happy with the prospect. Later she tells her brother, Viktor, that she’s happy Tony is serious about their relationship, but scared about having to reveal who she is and knowing Ernest would never allow her to marry a foundry worker.

Viktor is preoccupied because Ernest fired Wenceslaus and put him in charge of the accounting department. He knows nothing about that type of work. He wishes Silvia were there to give him advice. Hilda tells him to forget Silvia—she’s gone after Franz to try to fix their marriage.

Iolanda is still refusing to get out of bed. Ernest orders her to get up. He plans to take her to a nice restaurant and then a movie. Unfortunately, Dalia and Mundo have decided to see the same movie at the same time. In the lobby, Mundo sees Yola. She sees him and faints. (Note: So, this means the same thing in Brazilian tns that it does in Mexican ones—she’s pregnant.) Dalia keeps Mundo from rushing to her side, while Ernest holds her. She revives and Ernest helps her out. Dalia looks at Mundo. She realizes his love for Iolanda is still very strong. Back home, she tells her brother David (yay, another David sighting) she doesn’t know how much longer she can take it.

Back at the house, Iolanda and Ernest learn from the doctor that she’s not ill, she’s pregnant (Oy, Oy, Oy). Ernest is also surprised at the news, but unlike Franz, he feigns happiness—or maybe he really is happy to have another Hauser in the House.

Mundo sends Lindinha to find out how Yola is. Juliet gives her the news. Mundo is sure that baby is his. He goes charging into the Hauser compound yelling Iolanda’s name. Ernest orders her to tell Mundo to his face the baby is her husband’s and he is to stay away from her, or he’ll hill him. Yola refuses and he threatens the baby. He allows Mundo into the house and hauls Yola down the stairs. She can’t look Mundo in the eyes to tell him the baby is not his. Ernest is very pleased with himself.

Ernest gets Yola a very expensive ring to celebrate the pregnancy. When he returns Yola is with Laura and he overhears them conversing hysterically from outside the room. Yola tells her how she had to deny to Mundo the baby was his. She’s going to protect this child from Ernest. He must never learn the baby is Mundo’s. Ernest wipes his brow and his shoulders slump in disbelief.

PERLA--
Tue Sep 22, Part II

At the monastery, Franz catches up with Amelia on some steps outside a building. She says to him sharply—your “mujer” is probably looking for you. He pulls her to him and plants a good strong kiss on her lips. He begins to kiss her again, hold her tight, his kisses reaching down to her neck. Pretty soon they are holding each other so tightly daylight couldn’t get through. Franz looks into her eyes and holding her face gently he says you are “mi mujer.” He promises to tell Silvia everything. (As if she didn’t know already, dude—how about asking for a divorce?) They keep kissing, holding their embrace, all under Silvia’s watchful eye across the courtyard. It’s clear she’s not happy with that expression of love between Franz and Amelia and is going to rectify the situation, a plan to pull them apart for good. Later that evening, Franz, true to his word, goes to talk to Silvia, but she is in bed and pretends to be asleep.

Next morning everyone is in a good humor having breakfast in the refectory. Then Silvia arrives and makes a very public announcement that she is pregnant. So that was her big plan. Again, like her first arrival at the monastery, now she’s the only one smiling—grinning to be exact. Perla’s face tells it all. She knows exactly what “embarazada” means and she comes out with a …Que??? (thanks deb). Amelia is shooting daggers at Franz and Franz’s face says, don’t look at me! Amelia throws it in Silvia’s face—you got what you wanted—and storms out. Franz follows her out, but is stopped by Silvia. She wants a hug and congratulations regarding the happy news. He just stands there—the news is a surprise to him, so she grabs him. The monks are all very happy at the news of new life. Perla runs after her mother. She tells her everything will be alright.

Franz is still in shock. He wants to know if she’d been to a doctor. She says no, she was too busy getting ready for this trip, but a woman just knows. He tells her how unwise it was for her to make this trip knowing she was pregnant. He leaves, still in shock. Franz heads for Amelia’s quarters where she is holding Perla tight. She leaves so they can talk. Franz tells Amelia this pregnancy changes nothing (oh, you poor deluded man), he loves her, he never stopped loving her, will always love her. Of course he will assume responsibility for the child, but he wants to be with Amelia. She finally speaks—that will never happen. He needs to go back to Rio with his wife and she’ll stay with Perla at the monastery until the end of her vacation. Franz is sure this pregnancy is just a trick to keep him by Silvia’s side. Amelia says no, a woman just knows, just as she did with Perla. They need to stay away from each other from now on. Franz respects a woman’s intuition, but he still wants Silvia checked out by a doctor. A Tibetan version of a curandera is brought in. He takes her pulse and confirms the pregnancy. Now it’s Silvia’s turn to be surprised and speechless for a hot second, then she says to Franz—see I told you so. Later alone, she thinks the baby is probably Viktor’s.

The monks go to Perla and Amelia to confirm she will have an “hermanito.” Perla tells them that in her heart she doesn’t feel she will have an “hermanito.”

PP

Anita: Thanks so much for the summary. As always very helpful. Like Silvia, I was very surprised that she was truly pregnant. After my moment of surprise passed, I knew it had to be Viktor's. That scene was so funny because she was so surprised that the doctor said she was pregnant. I'm surprised that Franz didn't catch it. Last comment: So, Franz had been sleeping with Silvia (I know they're husband and wife but I thought he had stopped sleeping with her for a while. Obviously, I am wrong. :)

Perla

thanks so much Anita !!!
I always learn new things from your summaries.

TELEMUNDO...

looks like (west coast) futbol / (east coast) Cine Especial, on Friday,
plus a half hour of the angry Señora Acero.

Paz--You may have something there if Franz had stopped having relations with Silvia some time ago. Right now, the poor dear has no idea how far along Silvia is (nor does Silvia). That would make him start to count back.

I have Wednesday's review ready to post.

PERLA
For Wed Sep 23 Part I
It seemed as though every scene was a set up for some important future action, so unfortunately, I had to recount it. Sorry for the length.

Monastery
Franz finally has “the talk” with Silvia he couldn’t have earlier. He sits to tell her he can’t go on with this marriage, this lie they’ve been living. Her pregnancy changes nothing (where did we hear this before). He lets her have it between the eyes how he feels about her and how he feels about Amelia. She asks if he is going to abandon her. Before he can give her an answer, she gets up saying she needs some air.

The “air” she needs is to go confront Amelia in her quarters. She starts out by saying that this pregnancy was supposed to bring her and Franz together. Instead it will separate them and Amelia is at fault for causing this pain on an innocent child. Amelia’s daughter had no mother for ten years and now this child will not have a father. Amelia tells her to shut up. Silvia knows very well she was forced to separate from her child. They continue to argue, their voices getting louder, over who was responsible for the breakup of Franz and Amelia’s marriage, and now Franz and Silvia’s marriage. Silvia is losing the argument (since she’s 100% wrong and she knows it), so she crumples up on the bed in pain, begging for help. Someone must have responded, since it certainly wasn’t Amelia. Franz carries Silvia back to her room. Amelia suggests calling the doc back. Oh, no, replies Silvia, it’s just the altitude and the food, she’s sure. She just needs Franz by her side to take care of her and the baby.

Tenpa goes to see Amelia. She’s near sobbing, but dries her eyes to tell him how unhappy she is. She thought she had been on the verge of recovering her lost years, her lost life and her lost life. He suggests turning her thoughts about herself and see life differently. He counsels not to spend her time lamenting over something that cannot be changed. Instead, concentrate on the present moment and enjoy this time she has with Perla.

Rio
Ernest has a secret meet with Manfred. He wants Mundo out of this mundo, but he must arrange it so that nothing can be traced back to him. They need to act fast. Ernest decides to infiltrate the party to launch Mundo’s candidacy at the cabaret. Manfred meets with Benito (appropriately named) to tell him about the plan to bring Mundo down. He needs guys who can be trusted. Benito will get right on it.

As preoccupied as Mundo is over his personal turmoil (which is primarily Iolanda), he agrees with Fabricio (also called El Portu/Portugues) to turn his attention toward winning the election. He meets Dalia on the street and tells him the news of Yola’s baby not being his was his wake-up call. It’s all over with Iolanda. He looks at Dalia and says he knows he has a wonderful woman by his side…and right there in plain sight, kisses her meaningfully. (Ay, Mundo)

A very dispirited Yola descends the stairs at Hauser mansion. Ernest greets her. He gives her the ring on bended knee and thanks her for giving him a child. He piles on the flattery and takes her up to rest. Manfred has been an observer and is seething with anger and jealousy (like why was his mother never given a ring and flattery when she gave Ernest a SON).

Walter has been waiting to see Volpina. She ignores him and he runs after her. He tries to soften her up with the promise of dinner – and a new dress. Now, he’s talking her language. Sporting her new green dress, she and Walter are dining at the club when he is called away on club business. He’ll be right back. Manfred is sitting at the bar watching as several guys, along with Benito go to an upstairs room. He follows and Volpi just *has* to follow them. It’s just as well, for she hears the plan Benito is going to put into play to kill Mundo. This is an order that comes from above, Ernest Hauser. When Walter returns, Volpi is sitting at the table where he left her, but she has developed a ferocious headache and leaves by herself.

PERLA
Wed Sep 23 Part II
The day of campaign launch arrives. Benito and the infiltrators are mingling, waiting for Benito to give the signal to start provoking the crowd. Just as this happens, Nuno hands Fabricio a note warning him to get Mundo out of there, his life is in danger. Mundo is starting his speech. Fab interrupts and pulls him off stage and sends him next door to Arlindo’s house. Benito is pithed, but follows them. Arlindo announces the party is over, but can’t be heard over the mêlée. Everything is happening too fast for Mundo. He comes to the window to see what is going on when Benito sees his opportunity and pushes him out the window to the pavement below.

Monastery
At this very moment, Perla wakes from a nightmare, a terrible premonition that something bad has happened to Mundo. Amelia tries to calm her down. The monks are singing mantras for Perla. She feels better, but Perla is sure Mundo is in trouble. She wants to leave. Lama Sonan offers to go to the village to make an international call. Silvia makes another inauspicious entrance and lays a guilt trip on Franz when she learns he’s going to be away for a day to make a phone call. She’ll be all alone. Suppose something happens to her or the baby and he’s not there for her. Franz just turns and leaves her standing there. Silvia wants out of there.

Rio
Mundo is taken away by ambulance and a police officer, who thinks it was an accident, takes a statement from Arlindo. At the hospital, Fab confirms Arlindo’s story and about the anonymous note he received, but now cannot find. Fab will look for it. (The note was seen briefly in Mundo’s hands and then he flings it down before being shoved off to Arlindo’s house. Fab did not pick it up.) Benito climbs into Manfred’s car and assures him nobody saw him and he gets paid off.

Volpina hadn’t heard about the assassination attempt when Linda tells her about it, then hurries off. Volpi is upset since she was sure he got the warning in the anonymous message she sent.

The phone call Franz makes comes to the cabaret. Arlindo tells them to tell Amelia and to come home, but is cut off before he can give Franz any further details of Mundo’s state.

Manfred is taking some flak from Ernest about it not being a clean job. Manfred deflects, disclosing that there must be a traitor in their midst because Fabricio received a note warning of an assassination attempt.

The waiter rats out Volpi to Walter. Walter tells him to zip his lip, not a word to anyone about Volpi. Walter then goes to accuse her of ratting out the plan. She denies, denies, denies. He warns her against these folks, they’re dangerous and if they find out her involvement, he, Walter, won’t be able to help her.

Yola hears the news about Mundo’s accident on the radio. She’s as grey as her dress. She goes to the hospital with Laura’s help and cries to Mundo not to die. He’s in a coma. Back home, Yola accuses Ernest of the whole plot. She’s furious and tries to beat him up. He denies, denies, denies. A telegram arrives at the Hauser mansion. Ernest is very pleased to get his son and granddaughter back. A month later the family arrives.

Monastery
Franz has to tell Amelia and Perla the bad news. They will have to return to Rio.

PERLA
Wed Sep 23 Part III
Everyone except Silvia go right to the hospital. Mundo is still in a coma, unresponsive. A special mantra Perla recites, and, as the monks join in, a holy light shines down and Mundo comes to calling Perla’s name. The doc has never seen anything like it. Franz and Amelia are also astonished. Doc shoos them all out while he examines Mundo. Amelia moves toward Franz, her face reflecting the pain and worry. She reaches out to him and he takes her in his arms and holds her, assuring her Mundo will get better.

Silvia arrives at the Hauser mansion to a welcome complete with family and staff, except for Iolanda. Silvia uses the opportunity to make her great announcement that she is pregnant. Viktor speaks up, you’re pregnant? Yes, confirmed, she had all the symptoms and suspected it before she left. Everyone, except Viktor congratulates her, who must reluctantly give her a hug when she practically shames him into giving her. Once upstairs unpacking, Viktor comes to her room and straight out asks if this baby is his. She denies it. He asks her to look him in the eye and tell him so. Lying through her pretty eyes and teeth she says this baby is Franz’, her husband’s and he’d better not be spreading rumors around that aren’t true. What they had together? It was nothing, as she laughs at him.

Rio
Perla and the monks discuss premonitions, visions and dreams. Perla wonders why have them and the power if it doesn’t change anything. Well, it did, the monks tell her. Her dream prompted the phone call and here they are.

Franz and Amelia visit Mundo. He’s still in a coma. Amelia is letting go of some of the anger and resentment she held towards Franz. They are growing closer again over Mundo. She hugs him again and he holds her in his arms. He won’t leave. He’ll stay by her side.

Franz finally does go home to the Hauser mansion. He walks in right past his father and his wife. Stopping for a moment he tells them Mundo has come out of the coma and will be well. Yola also hears this.

Volpina “confesses” to Tenpa, without revealing anything, about what she did that might prejudice “someone’s” safety, even though the deed had already been done. He recommends she divulge what she know to alleviate the pain in her soul. Volpina finally tells Amelia everything. Amelia is shocked, but not surprised that it was Ernest who ordered the murder of her brother. Volpi, heard it loud and clear, but there’s no way she can go to the police. She only wanted Amelia to know what happened. Then she goes to Walter and confesses she lied to him, she did overhear the plan and she was the one that sent the note. She also confesses she already told Amelia. He blows a gasket. He suggests she deny, deny, deny and to go away for awhile.

Of course Amelia goes straight to the Hauser mansion and spills the feijoada, but can’t tell him who told her. It was in confidence and she won’t break it. Franz knows his father is many things, but not a murderer. He denies, denies, denies. Amelia reminds him of the forged papers and false accusation against her that sent her to jail. It was his father. Franz says that’s not important now. Amelia says it is. She knows Franz still has doubts, when the father of her child who says he loves me does not believe in me. He takes her home and they continue the argument. In desperation, Amelia says he doesn’t know his father; he doesn’t know the real Ernest Hauser. She declares that until this is all cleared up, she’s not going to permit Perla to see Ernest. Franz gets testy. He’s not up with this turn of events. He swears, though, that together they will find out who was really to blame. OK, says Amelia, and if he finds out it’s true, what will he do? Justice, answers Franz, and what will she do if she finds out he is innocent? Amelia has no answer for him.

wow, thank you so much Anita !!!

PERLA--
Thank you (says Anita, taking a bow before her audience of two). I'll do something similar, probably tomorrow, for Thursday Sep 24 and post it here, where it belongs.

Anita: Thanks so much for that wonderfully detailed summary. I missed so much of the storyline and would have gotten it, if you hadn't taken time to write the summaries, the way you did. Perla is a miracle child, helping her uncle come out of the comma. I enjoyed hearing her say the mantra with the monks. Everyone, especially those living in the Hauser home are all floating on the river of de Nile. Amelia brought up good points to Franz about Ernest. Deep down, he knows his father's true character. Just doesn't want to accept it.

PERLA--
Thus Sep 24 Part I
Well, I waited too long and we fell off the front page. I'll leave a note in Monday's Telemundo page.

Franz and Amelia continue the discussion from yesterday. Why is she doing this, just as they were beginning to recover their lives together. Amelia says they aren’t beginning anything; it’s ending. He tells her he loves her. He says he wants to be with her, regardless of Silvia’s child—he’s prepared to assume that responsibility as a father. They are at a stalemate when Perla gets home from school. She knows they’ve been arguing again. Franz tells her he was just leaving. She asks Amelia if the argument was about abuelo. Amelia explains he did something very bad and she can’t see him ever again. Perla is shocked. Never? Amelia says it’s for her own good and some day when she’s older, she’ll explain and Perla will understand. (How many times do we hear that over and over in telenovelas, epoca or corriente.) Perla wants Amelia to forgive him—someday she will understand one can always forgive.

Fabricio and Toni go visit Mundo in the hospital. The police still believe it was an accident or the result of a political mêlée. The three believe otherwise. Mundo remembers getting hit on the head and waking up in the hospital. He does remember the warning note. They form a pact to find out who set him up, even though Fab suspects Ernest Hauser.

Toni visits Odilon in jail. They talk about Pellezquito. Toni wants to know his background. Odilon has no information, other than he was abandoned and left at an orphanage. Toni meets Celia (aka Hilda) at the streetcar stop as usual. There he tells her it was Ernest Hauser behind the attempt on Mundo’s life. Cara de impactada de Celia.

Franz finally talks to his father and asks him point blank if he had anything to do with the attempt on Mundo. With a most offended look on his face, Ernest denies, denies, denies (and Franz thought this would get at the truth, poor deluded guy). Franz relays Volpina’s story of the cabal to kill Mundo without mentioning her name. Ernest thinks it’s all an invention of Amelia’s to separate him from Franz. It’s defamation. He’s ready to see an attorney, call the police, anything. He stomps up the stairs insisting to Franz he wants to see Perla. Franz tells him that until this matter is settled, he won’t be able to see Perla at all. Woops, thems’ fightin’ words. Ernest stops in his tracks and turns back. Que????? (He does it as well as Perla.) Franz says he heard right.

Pilar volunteers to take Silvia to her doctor’s appointment. The doc tells her she’s about 4 months along. Silvia mentally counts back to the time she and Viktor were together and relives the passion. Pilar is worried that she had nothing to say on the way home and takes her upstairs.

Ernest and Manfred have another meet regarding the plot to kill Mundo. He’s exasperated that someone knew about the plan ahead of time. He’s even more upset that his name *was* mentioned as being the mastermind—after he ordered Manfred to keep his name out of it. (For good or ill, we must thank Benito for mentioning it while Volpina was listening.) He orders Manfred to find the traitor.

Sometime later, Silvia is back on her feet and having tea with Pilar. She tells Pilar she likes her. She’s more than a little surprised when Pilar reveals she knows who she really is and knew her as a child and admired her father, Heitor Zampari. She can’t figure out why Silvia came to work at the Hauser empire, but puts Silvia at ease by saying that she always knew her father was innocent. She will never betray Silvia. Silvia wants to talk more to Pilar but not in the house.

Amelia visits Mundo in the hospital and reveals it was Volpi that sent the warning note about the plot and how Volpi learned Ernest was behind it.

PERLA--
Thus Sep 24 Part II
Ernest has what he thinks is a heart attack. Doc tells the family it was just an attack of nerves and he must rest and not be put under any stress. He says he’s stressed because Perla’s mother won’t let him see her. Doc says he should have some further exams done on his heart.

Walter sends Volpina another new dress to wear to dinner with him at the club. She’s not to worry; he’s looking out for her; he won’t let anything happen to her. Of course, Manfred and Aurora come to have dinner at the same place. While Aurora has gone to the “tocador” (i.e. ladies room) to “touch up” her face, Manfred sees Walter and Volpi arrive. He remembers the day when he saw her in the green dress, the day they were plotting against Mundo and knows instantly who it was knew of the plot ahead of time.

Walter leaves Volpi alone for a few minutes and Manfred approaches her. He tells her she’s playing with fire—she heard too much, talked too much. Volpi denies, denies, denies. Manfred sends her to the tocador so he can speak to Walter. He warns Walter. Walter says to leave Volpi out of it, she knows nothing. Manfred is sure she does, because she told it all to Amelia. If Walter doesn’t shut her up, Manfred will.

Walter will arrange for Volpi to head for the interior. He’ll give her money for a bus ticket and something to live on for a few days. He hurries her out.

Manfred visits a bedridden Ernest and spills the bratwurst and sauerkraut about Volpina being the traitor. Ernest wants to see Walter right away.

Hilda has told her brother Viktor about Ernest being behind the attempt on Mundo. Viktor can’t believe that. He doesn’t think she should believe the word of people who hate Ernest, namely Toni, Amelia and Mundo.

Although she didn’t want him to, Viktor takes Silvia to the jewelry shop. Silvia looks different. She’s let her hair down loose, making her look softer, more genuinely human. (Is this a signal that she’s becoming a more sympathetic character?) Viktor takes her to his artist studio/hotel room. They begin to argue about the baby again. It gets pretty loud. She’s so angry with him and frustrated with his constant questioning the paternity of this child. She doesn’t want him to ruin her life. She drops into a chair. Viktor kneels to be on her level and takes her face gently in his hands. He would never do that; he loves her, as much as she loves him. They give in to a kiss, followed by lots of kissing and hugging.

Mundo arrives back home. They see Volpina running by with a suitcase. Mundo figures out why right away. He wants her to go immediately to the police station and give her statement. She says she can’t. Mundo guesses she was threatened. He wants to know by whom. She gives in and says she’ll go. Instead, she grabs her suitcase and runs out of Amelia’s apartment. She gets away. Amelia is sure she’ll turn up some day.

Franz visits the bedridden Ernest. He misses Perla and has called his lawyer to force the issue. Franz has a better idea. He tells his father to swallow his pride and go talk to Amelia. She has a generous heart. And as for Amelia’s accusations, if he had nothing to do with the murder plot, he has nothing to fear from her. Walter has arrived downstairs and Ernest says he’ll get up, get dressed and go down to see him. He tells Walter it would be better if Volpina never returns.

Thu Sep 24 Part III
Silvia and Pilar are having a meal at a restaurant in order to continue their conversation about the relationship between Heitor Zampari and Ernest Hauser. Pilar tells her they were best friends until Ernest found out Heitor was still in love with Catalina, his wife. Heitor and Catalina had been childhood sweethearts, but there had been a passion between them. When they met again, they became lovers. Ernest’s friendship turned to hatred. She believed the accusations against Heitor were manufactured. Pilar knew both Heitor and Catalina. He adored her and would never have harmed her in any way. Silvia tells Pilar she’s back not just for vengeance, but to clear her father’s name.

Silvia admits to Pilar this was not a planned pregnancy, but before being a Hauser, this baby will be a Zampari—hers and only hers. Pilar tries to persuade Silvia that Franz, Viktor and Hilda are good people and can’t be blamed for what Ernest did. They are victims of Ernest, too. But, she assures Silvia, she’s on her side for whatever she decides to do. Pilar warns Silvia against Manfred. He cannot be trusted. He’s a scorpion. She urges Silvia to change strategies and investigate Ernest’s past. There are many secrets and mysteries which include Gertrudis.

On her way to school, the monks tell Perla she must learn patience. She must have patience and trust her mother’s reasons for not letting her see her abuelo Ernest.

Ernest, meanwhile, has walked right into Amelia’s apartment unannounced. He startles her and she is immediately on guard. He just wants to talk. He begs her to let him see Perla. She, on the other hand, throws *all* her accusations at him. He keeps his calm, innocent face toward her while he denies, denies, denies having had anything to do with her imprisonment (we know he did) or Mundo’s assassination attempt. She does not relent and tells him to get out. He shouts she’ll be sorry for this as she slams the door in his face.

Franz wants to know how it went with Amelia when Ernest gets back. Ernest says it went nowhere. She threw him out even though he was being exceptionally conciliatory. (Oh yeah?) Iolanda enters the room just as she hears Franz repeating the accusation that Ernest was the mastermind in the plot to kill Mundo. Her face registers nothing—but she heard—and Ernest sends her away. He asks Franz *never* to mention that again near Yolo. Unexpectedly, Ernest begins to cry!! He wants to see Perla and asks Franz to help. Franz tells him he will and to trust him. (Those were not crocodile tears he was spilling, because he continues to cry after Franz leaves the room.)

Josefine (aka Zefe), Amelia’s cousin arrives from the country. She’s looking for a job worthy of her education and skills. To begin, they soon come to a mutual arrangement for Zefe to care for Perla and take her to school while Amelia works. While they are talking, Amelia finds out Franz picked Perla up from school and took her to the Hauser mansion to spend the night.

Franz arrives at the mansion with Perla. She’s happy to see her abuelo. She wants to know why Amelia is prohibiting her from seeing him. He tries to put the blame on Amelia, but Franz stops him. Instead, Ernest gives Perla a new doll, immediately christened Amelia, as Franz watches the reunion with pleasure. At the pension, far from the mansion, Lama Sonan hears Perla’s voice calling him for help, as he recites a mantra. He must hurry to her side.

Laura and Iolanda are having lunch out. Yolo tells her Amelia is convinced it was Ernest who masterminded the plot to kill Mundo. She’d like to know what proof Amelia has and is going to go see Fabricio (aka el Portug) right away. Of course, Mundo is at the party’s office with Fab. He’s very cool toward her. He tells her she can tell her husband he didn’t get him this time. Yolo explains she wants to help investigate—she’s right there in the house. He does not respond to her embrace and she leaves without telling him the baby is his. Mundo tells Fab he just can’t be around her.

PERLA--
Thu Sep 24 Part IV
Toni learns that to adopt a child, a couple must be married and have no other children. Toni and Celia are still working out this engagement issue with meeting her family. Celia protests again about her father’s intransigence. Pez’s future is also in the balance. Toni asks her to invite her parents to lunch at his place tomorrow. Either they come to him or they go to her father’s house after lunch. Celia gulps inwardly. Toni pays Odilon’s fine. After his release, they go back to Toni’s place and have a hearty Italian meal.

Amelia shows up outside the Hauser mansion demanding to be let in. Gertudis tells her she has orders to keep her out. Franz has heard her and comes to the gate. He dismisses Gertie and steps outside to talk to Amelia. He tells her it has been decided. Perla stays at the mansion overnight. She’ll be fine and asks Amelia to leave. She does, but swears things aren’t going to be left like that. She and Mundo have a meet with the lawyer. He tells them they will need proof before they can bring charges against Ernest.

Manfred hears all about the ruckus at the gate from his mother. He hopes Franz loses Amelia for good this time. Gertie wants to know how he figures his goal of separating Franz from Ernest works when this incident will only bring them closer. Manny says to trust him.

Oh, yum, another David sighting. Dalia sees how down in the dumps he is and goes to see Aurora to see if she’ll help him again. Aurora is a bit miffed because he just rejected her previous attempt. Still, Dalia tells her he’s always re-animated after seeing her.

Silvia is up late, pondering at Catalina’s portrait in the Hauser House of Horrors. Hilda returns and is surprised by Silvia’s presence. They talk. Silvia urges Hilda to go to Toni’s tomorrow by herself and reveal who she really is. If Toni really loves her, the hurt caused by the deception will be of short duration. He won’t let her go. Hilda makes it to the lunch as Celia, with Decio’s help. *Someone* has sent Ernest an anonymous note saying Decio and Hilda’s engagement is a fake and that right then she is in her real fiancé’s house lunching. Ernest was going to ignore the note, but Silvia (&%$#!) urges him to follow up.

When Franz brings Perla home, he and Amelia have words over her decisions being ignored and countermanded. She isn’t going to just accept that. She’s taking legal steps to keep Perla from seeing Ernest. And she’d just as soon have every one of the Hausers out of her life. Franz sputters, but she loves him. Amelia retorts, not anymore. His eyes well up with tears. She says Ernest finally got what he wanted—for her to stop loving him. Oh, and she will no longer take his money for Perla’s monthly stipend. It’s dirty money; it is Ernest’s. Outside, Perla runs to say goodbye to Franz, but she can tell he’s sad about something. She recites a mantra and asks him to say it with her. It will make his heart feel better. He does and tells her he loves her very much. She loves him, too and she loves her mother. One day Perla will see them together.

PERLA--
Thu Sep 24 Part V
Celia has arrived at Toni’s house alone. He’s disappointed her parents didn’t come. They gather around the table to eat and after the meal, they are heading for her house to talk to her parents. She delays by stopping for coffee at an outdoor café. Just as she gets the courage to start telling Toni who she is, she professes her love for him, kiss sweetly across the table and Ernest comes charging across the street. Toni can hardly get the words out—sh-sh-she’s Ernest Hauser’s daughter? He grabs Hilda and hauls her away. Toni tells his buds he just can’t believe that sweet, poor, Celia doesn’t exist and instead the girl he’s in love with is Ernest Hauser’s daughter. How can life be this cruel to him, after losing Gaia and their son.

Ernest has dragged Hilda home, kicking and screaming and dumps her on the living room floor. He’s livid. He takes his belt off, ready to give her a thrashing. He takes her upstairs. Through all the uproar, Silvia smirks with glee from behind a curtain. Ernest has another attack of nerves.

Viktor enters Hilda’s room to comfort her. Hilda is sure someone squealed on her plans. (It shouldn’t be hard to figure out, Hildy. Only Decio and Silvia knew, if you don’t count any of Toni’s family.) Viktor warned her about trying to keep this double life secret. Hilda is concerned about Toni. What must he be thinking of her now. She was prepared to tell him everything when Ernest appeared.

Meanwhile Franz is sharing TMI with Manfred, his supposed best friend. He doesn’t know what to do about this Perla business. Manfred tells him he has rights as a father. Manfred thinks it’s time to take custody away from Amelia. They should go talk to a lawyer.

Ernest gets the only good news he’s had in a while when Franz tells him he has a legal right to see Perla. Sure enough, Franz shows up at Amelia’s with a court order that requires Perla to see her abuelo. He’ll pick her up that day from school and take her to the mansion…and she can’t stop him.

Anita: Thanks so much for the summary. You had me chuckling in some places.

Pilar gave Silvia some good advice about investigating Ernest's past and to leave the children alone.

I couldn't believe Ernest was genuinely crying. He IS an unhappy and miserable man, indeed.

Anita: Thanks always for the summary.

Pilar gave Silvia good advice. Now, if she'd only follow it.

I was surprised at Ernest's real tears. But then I shouldn't be. He is a miserable man. He should be crying a lot more. :)
