Antes muerta que Lichita #23 Thursday 10/22/15: He/She Who Laughs Last, Laughs Best

Roberto is freaking out over kissing Alicia again! He just cannot stop thinking about her. Gumaro reads between the lines and realizes like a good telenovela bff that Roberto is in luurve. Of course Roberto denies this adamantly.

Braulio and Lichita fantasize about the time when there dreams will become realized. The time where they can speak informally to Don Augusto (umm dont think that will ever happen). They encourage each other while Braulio speculates the cause of her good mood.

Sandra and Don Auguto play kissy in the office. Sandra brings up that Elias position is vacant and he will likely not come back (nooo say it aint so), since he wants to retire from the field. Therefore the position is vacant. Sandra tries to pull the jealous card when Augusto speculates about their (Elias) sex life. He laughs so hard you would think that Sandra told the funniest joke in the world but no he just finds it funny that someone thinks he could ever be jealous of anyone (besides himself). Sandra admits to clearly not knowing him like she thinks and drags him to the meeting. We are then interrupted to creepy music with that mysterious ringtone...along with Sandra we are still not privy to what these calls are about.

Iconika gatherings is a breeding ground for gossip. And if there is gossip it is likely about Lichita. Nestor informs the mean girls that her Mom now works at Iconika but this is old news (These folks should consider a career in writing for gossip columns)

The young couple makes a reappearance at their favorite orphanage to once again look at more children. The wife comments that anytime she sees Mateo it reminds her of their little Angel (uh oh sounds like a sad backstory there). Unreasonable wife tells reasonable hubby that they should push with Mateo's case. She wants to continue to dig some dirt up on Roberto and figure out why his son is in the orphanage.

The important meeting is really a pep rally spearheaded by Don Augusto himself. The workers should not settle for their current achievements. They need to continue to aspire to greater heights. Don Augusto sets his sights for North America where there is a growing hispanic population that Iconika can tap into. The most exciting event is Nestor getting yelled at for brown nosing. Sandra and Augusto dismiss everyone but Roberto and his two colleagues.  Each of them will get a chance to go to L.A and work with a point person Iconika has there. Whoever comes up with the best idea to branch into the hispanic market in the U.S. gets promoted to Elias vacant position. Roberto does a happy dance similar to Lichita and Nacho.

Back to reasonable hubby who becomes unreasonable like his wife when he fakes a call to remain behind in the Director's office. The amateur that he is, looks for something that would lead them to Roberto. Back in the car he shows his wife (whose voice seems to in constant frantic mode) a sticky note.

Luciana tries to get Roberto to spill the beans on what the meeting with Augusto and Sandra is about. He lies and begs off saying he has to actually work while no shame Luci just wants to play hookie with him since Lichita will do all the work for her anyway.

Guess that sticky note was the map to Roberto places. Gumaro and Roberto do they're best in trying to make the place seem undesirable. Roberto even tries to make it look like Gumaro and he are an item to Gumaro's horror. After the couple asks several personal questions which they vaguely answer, Gumaro shoos them out but not before making some not so subtle passes at Ms. Unreasonable. After they are gone, Roberto feels unsettled about the guests...specifically with the wife and how she viewed him. Meanwhile the busy young couple are listening to their recording. Hubby realizes they really do not have anything incriminating to go off of but Ms. Unreasonable feels like there must be something. Looks like they are ready to drag everyone including themselves down the road of eventual heartbreak and needless grief with Mateo stuck at the center.

Lichita is now at home wondering whether she should message Roberto since she did not get a chance to talk to him after the meeting. She eventually does and spends the rest of the time staring at her phone waiting for a response.

Lichita is down the next morning because Roberto did not message back. She finds a plastic flower on her desk and immediately assumes it is from Roberto. The Patio knows better and we see that the mean girls are at it again. Nestor interrupts their games to vomit the latest gossip....Roberto is going to LA on business.

Before heading to work, Roberto reveals his surprise to Mateo which is the last thing  I suspected....his uncle Gumaro! At work Roberto seems to be hiding from Luciana, Lichita or both. Lichita finds him and thanks him for the thought (giving her flower)....he doesn't understand that she thinks it was he who gave it to her. Luciana dismisses Lichita to find her a salad. Life is one big game when she is not getting her 8 hours of beauty sleep because Luci finds it funny to take Roberto's phone and send Luci a text saying he wishes it was her (Lichita) to meet him at the airport.

Jesusa suspicially confronts Lichita as she makes Luci's salad. She even offers to take it to Luci herself since she knows her better than Lichita. Next thing we know Luci is panicking because she cannot breath...must have been something in the salad. The Doctor ensures everyone gathered at Iconika that Luci is just exaggerating a little but will be okay.

At the end of the episode, Lichita sports that creepy look as she unravels a bunch of blueberries. Question is who played that cruel joke on Luciana? Jesusa? Lichita? Does this mean Lichita gets to go to L.A instead? Guess we have to wait to tomorrow to find out.

Your recaps are such a treat CeCe, thank you

"Ms. Unreasonable"

Oh no they don't, my hackles are up over that young couple, hurry Roberto.

I did a little happy clap when Luciana assumed she should stay for the remainder of the meeting when all were dismissed but Duarte, X and X and Sandra told her to scram asking was her name Duarte, X or X?

Hmmm, we saw a bit of cyber bullying of Dafne.

Alicia finding the rose, sniffing, realizing it was plastic, sniffing again yet still swooning was so cute.

It's such a treat to wake up every morning and read Lichita recaps and sip my coffee. Thank you CeCe! I'll be back after I read.

You never miss a beat, CeCe! This was great. You nailed it with this line-

"Looks like they are ready to drag everyone including themselves down the road of eventual heartbreak and needless grief with Mateo stuck at the center."

If this is where they're going, it going to be hard to watch.

tofie- that cyberbullying is worrisome... No that's not a strong enough word. The things that people say on the internet... I just can't even. Have you seen that story about Mia Matsumiya documenting a decade's worth of harassment? There are no words.

On the Lichita website they have videos of "secret" office video from the security tapes. They star the security guard who is often skulking about in the scenes. I haven't watched one, but I may have to. I want to know who put the blueberries in the salad. I don't want it to be Lichita. That's kind of sinking to their level, isn't it?

This was such a fun recap, CeCe! Love your name for the young couple.

Despite setting my dvr to record Lo Imperdonable so that I'd see the last minutes of Lichita, it didn't. I don't me it. It's Mejia. But that meant I didn't see Luci's allergic reaction of Lichita's evil look with the berries. Hmmmm... Lichita or Chuchette?

Well, if it was Lichita, Luci herself gave Lichita motive when she sent that text as Rob saying if he weren't forced to take Luci to LA, he'd want Lichita there. Problem solved!

Typo: I don't blame it (the dvr).

I actually watched the security footage. I'm Sara and I love all things Lichita. I can quit whenever I want.

BTW -before the meeting the employees were playing a video game that they recently rolled out in Mexico. It's another Lichita tie in.

Nope. Not obsessed with Lichita.

I did see that and it is worrisome Sara, you guys got a taste while recapping Gata. Unfortunately why I remain as anonymous as possible trying not to give too many specifics. Kinda the deal Mr tofie and I made. I was picked at mercilessly in school because I was different from everyone and it continued into my early professional career primarily because I was a woman and asian in a male dominated field but at least the attackers had a face and I could get in it.

Thank you so much, CeCe, for the very entertaining recap.

Funny: Luciana's bogus text from Roberto to Alicia actually was the truth.

Loved everyone's reaction to Luciana's rash: they all jumped back in disgust. Guess with her rash lasting a few days she will miss out on her "mini luna de miel" (Mini honeymoon) and beaches at Malibu with Roberto in LA. Guess he lucks out. As for Luciana, who eats without looking at their food? Funny: a diabolical Alicia with her collection of blueberries? Sure hope she gets to go to LA.

Augusto sure was on a crueler than usual streak: laughing in Sandra's face about being jealous and having to tell the whole Elías story one more time at the meeting just to make her uncomfortable. I did like his dress down of Néstor for not acting like a professional. Also enjoyable was Sandra telling Luciana SHE was not invited to the next meeting of the day.

Poor Elsa with her coffee: clearly not appreciated by Augusto and his crew. Someone needs to tell her they are not into good manners or anything resembling "chatty".

Poor Dafne. She cannot escape her misery even on the internet.

Poor Alicia with the plastic rose.

What is Augusto's mystery? Will he be able to get some info on Luciana to rein her in and shift the power back to him? I think I heard something about this but confess I was not watching very closely.

"Will he be able to get some info on Luciana to rein her in and shift the power back to him?"

Such an excellent point. With his ego, he's not going to put up with Luciana for long.

Tofie- I'm sure you were able to eventually leave your bullies in the dust, with your brilliance and sharp wit. What loosers.

Yeah, that was a sad little scene with Dafne on the computer. Every time she picks up the phone to call her father or tries to reach out to someone online, I encourage her to call Lichita instead. Lichita would be such a good friend to her, and just what she needs.

There was also a little scene where Brisa tries to get closer to Braulio- they speak about there families and where they grew up. He's from far away and has no family nearby. Brisa manages to learn that he lives by himself and is single. Because of her father's work, she moved around constantly as a kid. I'm not sure if Brau realizes that she has a crush on him.

Tofie- your experience makes me want to punch throats, but one of the reasons I love you is because you don't need anyone to punch throats for you. I'm sure you put those guys in their place :-)

Oh, Brau! (Thanks for the jog, Vivi.) Did anyone else get the vibe that he kind of likes Alicia as more than a friend?

Sara- When Lichita and Brau were together this episode, I started to wonder if he has feelings for her too. If Rob had seen them, he would have definitely been jealous.

Funny moment: Rob hiding behind those statues by taking their form.

CeCe, fabulous. "Unreasonable wife tells reasonable hubby that they should push with Mateo's case" and "Looks like they are ready to drag everyone including themselves down the road of eventual heartbreak and needless grief..." were excellent but "Nestor interrupts their games to vomit the latest gossip" was my hands down favorite. Exceptionally well done.

I know that our Dafne will rise above the haters. She is fierce. That doesn't mean she or any child should ever have to endure bullying in any form.

tofie, I can't imagine reading comments without seeing either a sharp observation or a hilarious list from you. You add so much here. While the past can't be erased, I am so sorry you had to endure that but am glad you are warm and safe here with those who care about you.

Brisa and Braulio - what a great idea. I'd love to see both of their storylines expanded. In order to have time to do so, why don't the Chuchette and Nestor characters just disappear. ;)

The couple who are desperately seeking to adopt Mateo crossed the line of reason some time ago. Please stop before it is too late! I don't think they are bad people but certainly obsessed.

Jarifa, I am also very curious about Auggie's secret. While I kind of enjoy Luciana toying with him (making him bend to her will), he is too sharp to let this continue for much longer. Be careful Luciana...

Now from the devilish look on Lichita's face, I thought there was no doubt she put the blueberries in the salad. While I believe in fighting back, if she did indeed do it, I totally agree Sara that I don't want to see her sinking to her tormenter's level. There are many ways to mess with Luciana - she's transparent and it isn't all that difficult. Let's not jeopardize anyone's health.

Thank you CeCe!

Diana

Oh ya'll stop I'm gonna cry. Let's just say I had the last laugh.

Perhaps that is why I love this show so much and gleefully anticipate Alicia and Dafne's metamorphosis.

Mine started in 8th grade when somehow I made the cheerleading squad at school and some of the same peckers that picked on me panted after me and I gave them a big ole nope. To confuse the mean girls, academically I was at top of class with no time for a bf.

I think Braulio is into Alicia and problematic for Brisa.

Bothers me still that Roberto's success will depend on Alicia. If he has the courage to fess up, she accepts and forgives his deception and as a team they rise, fine.

Funny the two biggest mysteries are the person on the other end of Augusto's calls and the blueberry mischief.

According to the secret security footage it was Lichita. *sigh* I'm not sure how I feel about that.

tofie- you go, girl!

Vivi- thanks for seeing the same thing. Also, in addition to Rob hiding, it was funny that he, Alicia and Luciana carried on that entire conversation and he remained in stealth mode.

Diana- Dafne is fierce, but a person can only take so much. She did respond to the hater, but that might just open up the floodgates. Here's hoping Dafne and Lichita get to team up soon. Dafne needs a support system and Lichita and her family would be great. Niecie said it perfectly when she compared the two families. Dafne needs a place where she can sizzle.

Well she did have that devilish grin and a food allergy could kill Luciana so that was too far. Breaking the heels of her shoes one thing messing with her food....

It's the passive aggressive aspect that bothers me, but Alicia is having to think about keeping her job too.

Interesting term Elsa used with reference to Alicia when they were talking about her maybe going to LA with Roberto on the business trip (Not a pleasure trip!). She told Alicia she was at "la edad de merecer" = age of marriage.

In the real world, I would have a problem with Alicia slipping in the blueberries ( not legal, could have killed her) but here, no. Here it is vicarious revenge! If it is the case as it seems, it might put Luciana on notice to keep her eyes open where Alicia is concerned. Even in the real world, bullies do not respond well to subtleties. This was not subtle. It would even be funnier if the blame ended up on Chuchette who just had to take over making the salad. It should leave Luciana wondering whatever the case.

Just watched first 2 episodes of PESE. What fun for a grey a.m.!

Clarification: vicarious revenge for me!!

Luciana did deserve it!

OT: Netflix is dangerous: it just keeps playing one episode after another.!!!!

Sara, yes, Dafne and Lichita need to team up - and pronto.

I've said before that they would be an unstoppable force. :)

I am trying to be positive for Dafne. My heart has broken for her at her treatment by her parents and those company rats (any offense to real rats was unintentional). I refuse to believe that the writers will have her bullied into desperation. Sigh.

Diana

Wonderful recap!

I had no problem with Alicia going after Luci after all of the awful things she is doing to the poor girl.

I thought Roberto got really excited about the trip when he heard he could take an assistant. I thought his excitement came more out of getting to spend time with Alicia than the job.

Elsa definitely is not good at reading situations and keeping her mouth closed.

Augusto is really awful! Sandra deserves so so much better. Disappointed Elias is gone for good. The actor at least made a big impression!

Poor Dafne. I hope things look brighter for her soon.

Wow that couple, especially the wife, has gone crazy. I wonder why Gumaro wasn't visiting before?

Carvivlie- I believe Rob said there are rules about who gets to visit the kids in the orphanage. Not just anyone can do it, and Gumaro is not the kind of person who would be put at the top of the visitation list. He's not even related by blood to Mateo, although considered his uncle.

Oh, I forgot we learned something really important last night. Roberto has a US visa because his ex, Sheila, is an American citizen. That's how he can easily go to the States on this trip. Any chance Sheila will pop up in L.A. and cross paths with him?

Wow! That is important! What scene was that? *cleans out ears*

Sara- It was when Rob and Gumaro were sitting on the couch, and he was telling him about the L.A. trip. Gumaro was teasing about Rob about who he was going to take, Lichita or Luci, and then suggested the Rob take him instead. Rob laughed it off and reminded Gumaro that he doesn't have a visa, which is when Gumaro spoke about how Sheila only gave Rob two good things- Mateo and the US visa.

Thanks Vivi. I thought Gumaro was a blood relative.

Gumaro and Rob consider themselves brothers, but they met as orphans in the children's home.

Gracias Vivi. I should take advantage of the comprehension challenges those two present and not zone out when the talk.

Are Sheila and Rob officially still married?

Good question. Were they ever married?

They had to be if she got him a US passport.

Thanks! I didn't even think about that. Er, actually I had no clue.

Just a visa, not a passport. But still, their current marital status is a mystery.

She probably divorced him during those five years he was in jail. At least I HOPE she did, so that he's still not tied to her legally.

If he is still married that would definitely put a kink in his relationship with Alicia but it may save him from Luci!

Funny epi and recap CeCe ... loved, "Guess that sticky note was the map to Roberto's place." Ha, ha !!!

Didn't Elias leave 10 years ago? Why does that stick in my mind. And if so, why are they just now replacing him? And for some reason, I thought he left because he was having mental problems. I thought Sandra was calling a hospital or some such institution asking about him.

I'm probably way off on this since my Spanish is not the best which is why I really appreciate the fab recappers.

Lola

Lola- Elias only had his breakdown a few weeks ago (during the first episode). But he and Sandra divorced 10 years ago. They worked together at Iconika as ex-spouses.

:)

Thanks Everyone!

If it was not for Lichita's develish look at the end I would totally lay the blame on Chuchette...she was so eager for Luci to eat that salad. I am not sure how I feel about Lichita stopping down to that level...allergic reactions could be serious.

Vivi: Thanks for filling in the part about the visa I missed that. I need to pay more attention to their scenes.

Carvivlie: ITA about Roberto excitement of taking someone. I immediately thought if that stemming from Lichita and not Luciana. But he sure is sending mixed signals by not answering her messages. I get that he is denying his feelings but still.....

tofie: I am glad you ended up getting the last laugh. I hope Dafne can partner up with Lichita somehow. I dont care how contrived the plot device is...writers make it happen!

Diana: ITA about less screen time for Nestor and Chuchette (they are a broken record) and more for Brisa and Braulio. I am glad that Don Augusto is too into himself to be wrapped around anyone's finger...least of all Luciana.

Lola: Before she chickened out Sandra called the hospital to check on updates on Elias. It seems there is some residual feelings left from that relationship. I really hope he comes back somehow. Sandra needs to see Don Augusto as a lost cause and find someone who is not interested in himself.

sorry Sara, Vivi you can talk now

I deleted my comments.

Sara- Where did you comment go? I liked our duplicate comments.

You won. :-)

Keeping things clutter free. If only I had the same attitude with my house.

CeCe and Vivi, THANKS for the Elias info!! Now I get it!! I'm sure he's going to surface at some point ... Robert's wife too. I was a little lost in that conversation as well.

Lola

Some other pointers:

Daphne is way stronger than I was at her age kudos to her...to make matters worse she does not even have parents she could potentially turn to. How much longer can she endure constant rejection from family and strangers....The only friends that she has is the maid and possibly her brother.

I hope Roberto's ex does not come back and try to pry her way into Roberto;s life now that he is trying to make something of himself. I cannot see him willingly taking her back though with all that she did to him.

A Luciana and Sheila showdown would be kind of fun to watch, though.

sara: very true...I'll take front row seats to see that any day. Anything to see Luciana's ego taken down a hundred or so notches....she does have something in common with her tio after all.

We are still so early in the story, I say the more characters in the mix the better.

CeCe, thanks so much for your recap. Looking forward to reading it tonight.

Wow, 52 comments.

Gracias, CeCe! Mr. and Mrs. Unreasonable really creep me out. As awful as they think Roberto must be, they're not far behind with some of the stuff they're doing (badly).

I love Elsa's new uniform! I was dreading, when Augusto brought it up, that it was going to be something horrible and drab. Silly me--in an office like that? Never!
