Antes muerta que Lichita #46 Wednesday 11/25/15

First of all, a very happy Thanksgiving to everyone! On with the recap!

We are back at the awards presentation where Luciana is accepting Roberto's proposal.  He is staring right at Alicia with his big sad puppy dog eyes(don't do anything for me anymore). Alicia is not a happy camper. Her reaction is so apparent, Alex asks her if she is okay. Of course, she is. Beatriz is not happy that she did not know ahead of time about Alex's "surprise" engagement and tells Augusto as much. Augusto says they wanted it to be a surprise and that he himself was surprised by Roberto and Luciana's engagement. Alicia is getting the same reaction from her parents who did not appreciate being "surprised" at all. Beatriz comes over with Alex and Augusto to complain to Alicia and Alex that she is angry because they only left Augusto in on the secret. Augusto tries to smooth it all over and gets Nacho to reluctantly agree that the important thing is to celebrate their children's engagement.

Somewhere else in the room Valeria is congratulating Roberto and Luciana and talking about how they have to inform her father. Augusto appears with some champagne to make a toast and approaches Roberto who apologizes for not telling him about the engagement ahead of time. No problem, Augusto is there to make a toast with them all for Alex and Alicia.

Augusto notices a pensive Sandra leaving the room and follows her to a side hall. He wants to know what he can do for her. She understands the promotion for Alicia now that she knows she is going to be Augusto's daughter in law. Augusto asks her not to make a scene because Beatriz is there and she might figure things out. She is sick of being second. Augusto tells her he only loves her and roughly grabs her to kiss her. Surprise! Elías in his top hat catches them. He wonders out loud if Sandra and Augusto are all alone to deal with some work issue or  maybe something more intimate.

At the mansion, Dafne is having a good time blogging about her surviving her first day at school, explaining it all to Yesenia the maid, and eating French fries.

Augusto is still on the move and now is approached by Valeria who was shocked about Luciana's engagement  and who is getting upset and even thinking of telling Luciana that her real father is Augusto. Augusto warns her that if his half brother were ever to find out that he was not Luciana's father and that it was Augusto, it would just kill him. Augusto tells her to forget that craziness and lightly strokes her arm. Valeria asks him not to touch her like that. The quiet moment is broken up by Luciana who is angry and disappointed that she thought Alicia was going to be leaving but now she is instead securing her place at work and taking hold of their family. Augusto reminds her he does not have to explain anything to her and not to  make a scene in front of everyone. She wants to know if this is the "colossal fall" he had in mind for Alicia. Augusto's advice: occupy yourself with your future and wedding and leave him in peace.

Elsa and Nacho are still expressing their disappointment about the announcement and Alicia. Alicia storms off as they are talking about her as if she were not there. Roberto comes by to congratulate them. They don't know what to think of him and his engagement to Luciana and what happened with Alicia. He tells them that he does not want to lose their friendship in spite of all that is going on. Elsa tells him that marrying Alex is the best thing Alicia could do. Roberto ends with telling them that sadly Alex and Alicia's relationship is not what it seems. Nacho wonders what he meant.

Down another hallway, Alicia is telling Roberto that she never thought Augusto would do something like that announcing their engagement in public. Alex thinks that what she is upset about is Roberto's engagement announcement. He guesses that Roberto must be the love she told him about a while back. He tells her he is sorry and hugs her. Roberto sees them and says they are the couple of the year. The party was really not for Icónika but to celebrate their engagement. Alicia says she could say the same thing about him. He is just about ready to say that what he did with Luciana had nothing to do with . . . when Luciana arrives on the scene and is all over him. Alicia pushes her way through them. She leaves. Luciana leaves. Roberto asks Alex how long is he planning on playing out the farce with Alicia and using her to cover up who he really is. Alex responds with he is in no position to judge him: if someone should have thought about Alicia before making a decision it is he Roberto. Alex leaves.

Gumaro is out at a local taquería restaurant with a girl Eliana. He is busy eating and watching the soap opera "Corazón enamorado" on an overhead TV as Eliana is moaning that he only calls her whenever he wants. So, why would he call her if he didn't want to? More Gumaro wordplay thinking he is being funny. She is looking for something more than what Gumaro is giving her. He says has no time for love. She is out of there. She didn't even pay the bill but the magazine she did leave behind has a photo of Roberto and Luciana on the cover. He ends up kissing the Luciana part of the photo.

Alicia and Luciana confront each other down another hallway. They end up insulting each other until Fátima and some co-workers come to congratulate both of them.

Alicia is walking home with her parents saying that inspite of everything she hoped they enjoyed the party. Nacho only had eyes for his daughter. Her life is like a fairy tale now. Elsa agrees that her daughter has also been a queen for her.

When they arrive at their home, they turn on their lights to Magos and El Chanclas under the covers together on the couch. Elsa and Nacho are not happy at all. ElChanclas has taken off his shirt (but not hat) and Magos is down to a camisol top. Macho wants to know what they are doing naked in his house. What if Ximena were to see them? She has been asleep for a while is Magos' excuse. El Chanclas informs them he want to marry Magos. She looks happy about it, too. Nacho is not happy at all.

Back at the party, Sandra is giving Fátima an earful about Alicia and how she won't be doing her job for her. Lurking Elías hears it all.

Back at the Gutiérrez household, everyone is seated. Elsa does not know what is going on: first nothing with her daughters and then in a couple of hours both of them are getting married. El Chanclas says it will be a while for him and Magos to get married because he wants to get some money together for Magos and his daughter. The final straw: it looks like El Chanclas will be spending the night because according to Magos it is too late for him to get transportation. Nacho shakes his head in disbelief.

Roberto arrives home at the apartment drunk like a skunk laughing all the way as Gumaro helps him get in the door. Roberto tells him he is getting married. Gumaro is so happy for him that he got things straightened out with Alicia. He blurts out in his drunken slur that he is marrying Luciana. They both laugh.

Ding dong at Sandra's apartment. Elías has arrived. He still has on his blue top hat. He has brought her a bunch of leaves because nobody sells flowers at this time and he did not want to come empty handed. He has been thinking about those late night talks they used to have when they were married and the plans they made that never came to be anything. Sandra says their lives just took different paths. She asks if he would be surprised to know that she misses things about him, too. A  few  things; he is leaving. He comes back for a passionate kiss. He leaves. She hold the bouquet of leaves he brought and smiles

Back at the apartment, Roberto tells Gumaro he really did ask Luciana to marry him in front of everyone. They end p ,screaming back and forth. Gumaro tells him to calm down because they need to get ready to go see Mateo. Roberto keeps trying to smell his own bad breath.

It is breakfast time at the Gutiérrez house. Elsa, Nacho and Alicia are at the table with Ximena while El Chanclas is on the sofa rubbing Magos' feet n the background. Ximena is asking questions about wedding dresses. Magos fills El Chanclas in about who Alicia is marrying and the rich family her fiancé comes from. Nacho asks El Chanclas what he is interested in doing in reference to work. Maybe he could be a foot massager. El Chanclas has nothing steady right now just a job here and there. Magos asks her mother if she could give him a job at their café. Elsa says that she is not in a position to pay salaries yet. Magos says it is too bad Gerry is working for them at the coffee cart. El Chanclas did not know anything about their cart but he could not see leaving Gerry without a job. Having struck out so far, Magos asks if Alicia might be able to find work for El Chanclas at Icónika since she is going to be marrying the owner's son and all. Alicia says it is not that easy. El Chanclas understands answering with his mouth full of food. He also throws food at Ximena to catch in her mouth but she is not too good at it he says. He belches and says they need to get going to the park so Ximena can play outside for a while. Ximena does not know what to make of it all but looks very uncomfortable.

At the orphanage, Gumaro and Mateo are having a fine old time rolling around on the ground as Roberto watches. Mateo asks Gumaro if he knows that his mother is a "super hero" (Roberto told him that tale a couple of episodes a go when he was wondering where his mother was). Gumaro runs with it talking about her super powers, etc. Roberto goes off to talk to the doctor who tells him that Mateo does not need medicine at this time. If he does they will give it to him. He should not worry about Mateo. Next, he talks to Venus who says she will let him visit Mateo daily for a while yet while he is recuperating. He can then tell Mateo about his upcoming wedding. How did she find out? She saw his photo with his fiancée in the social pages of the newspaper. She shows it to him. She wants him to bring his fiancée on by to meet Mateo. Roberto looks shocked when he sees the photo.

At the mansion, Augusto and the whole family are having breakfast together. Dafne is all excited about Alex's wedding. Dafne tells Luciana she is so sorry for poor oberto having gotten caught up in Luciana's nets. Beatriz cuts that interchange off so they can have a pleasant breakfast. Luciana makes sure they all know she wants a wedding just like the one Alex and his fiancée will be having. Cheeky Dafne wonders if Luciana's parents will have the money to pay for it all. She wonders if Luciana will be going to Patagonia to live with her new husband. Luciana does not know why Dafne hates her so. Augusto puts a "stop" to all of it announcing that that very week both of the weddings will be planned. Beatriz wants to plan something over the top at the National Cathedral with the best families in Mexico, etc. Luciana is all excited until Beatriz tells her that is her plan for Alex's wedding, not hers. Beatriz assures her that her wedding will be "nice", too. Dafne just laughs.

Magos, Ximena and El Chanclas have gone for a walk to a kiddy park where he thinks Ximena will be interested in playing. She tells him that she is too old for what they have. Ximena is not having a good time. She corrects El Chanclas' slang pronunciation of "vayamos". Before things go even worse, Gerry comes on by. They bump chests and dance around greeting each other. Ximena cannot believe what she is seeing and looks mortified by it all. Magos tells/reminds Gerry that El Chanclas is the father of Ximena. Gerry says how El Chanclas and Ximena look just like each other. Ximena shakes her head no. She is so embarrassed.

At the mansion, Valeria is calling her artist husband in Argentina. He is shocked that Luciana is marrying some guy Roberto rather than Alex her cousin.

Back at the orphanage, Mateo wants to know when Gumaro can come back to play with him again. Roberto gives him the good no that He Ronerto will be back to see him tomorrow and everyday. Mateo is surprised. Roberto tells him if they did not let him come back, then he would have to jump over the wall, dig a tunnel or wear a disguise. Mateo asks if that would be a "clown" costume. They all laugh.

Back to Magos and the crew. Gerry is telling her that they need more "coffee" at work really meaning they need more hot goods. Magos tells him he can talk freely in front of El Chanclas because he is part of the family. Magos tells El Chanclas about her business of "pirated" goods and how it is all going okay. Gerry calls himself "Magos' mule."They all laugh. Ximena hears it all and is  looks upset.

Roberto is really upset when he and Gumaro get home because Venus now knows about the stupid thing he did asking Luciana to marry him. He does not know what got into him that he would have proposed to her in front of everyone with the cameras and all. Roberto looks worried. Gumaro is of no help.

Back at the Gutiérrez household, Alicia is helping her mother Elsa with the dishes. Elsa is seriously talking about El Chanclas who seems to have no job nor to be of any benefit but Magos loves him. Alicia says that Ximena has looked sort of serious. She thinks that Ximena wanted to know about her dad but is not so happy to have met him. Elsa just hopes that Magos doesn't stick her foot into it again. Elsa is also serious with Alicia and insists on telling Alicia she has doubts about her wedding. Alicia tells her mom that she always shares everything with her. So, what is her mom worried about? Elsa says the whole thing is just strange with a proposal so quick and all. She looks at Alicia and does not see a young bride eager and excited about her wedding. Call it a mother's intuition. Alicia answers back with she is just not that demonstrative with her feelings, etc. Her mother tells her to cut the crappola. She has one question for Alicia: is she getting married because she is really in love or is she getting married out of pure interest(what she can get out of it)?

Alicia tells us she had never felt cornered by her mother before but in front of her eyes full of doubt, she asked herself if she would be able to lie to her own mother . . .

I guess we will see tomorrow . . .

I am still liking El Chanclas. He needs someone to take him under their wing and teach him some manners and basic niceties. He seems like a really good person under his unkempt and crude exterior.

Thanks, Jarifa. Terrific recap. Thanks for taking time from the holiday to give us such a rich recap. All the scenes moved fast last night and I couldn't keep up.

Poor Ximena. You had to ask "Where's my popa?" Whoever said Ximena will wind up raising her parents is so right. Jarifa, ITA El Chanclas just needs some mentoring (and some scolding, dinner table etiquette, a job, etc.) but he's not a bad guy. Sigh, poor Nacho. Every man's nightmare for a son-in-law.

Favorite scenes: Elias and Sandra in her apartment and Beatriz razzing Luciana.

Fabulous recap, Jarifa.

I agree, Chanclas isn't a bad person. Just like Magos isn't a bad person. I still wish poor Ximena had better parents. How soon till Chanclas is helping Mac is sell her off the wagon merchandise?

Can't wait to see if Alicia is actually capable of lying to Elsa. Yipes!

Jarifa, you built this excellent recap with care and consideration. It's evident you care about the characters - you always make me feel that everything will be all right.

"Roberto keeps trying to smell his own bad breath" made me laugh.

I find I am eagerly looking forward to Gumaro's scenes. Why? He is endearing, caring, his own man and the staunchest friend and ally one could ever have. "He ends up kissing the Luciana part of the photo" and "Gumaro is of no help" exactly mirrored our not quite ready for prime time galan's weaknesses but if I were in a tight spot, there is no one I'd rather have beside me.

So what nefarious plan does Augusto have to hurt and humiliate Alicia?

"Gerry says how El Chanclas and Ximena look just like each other". Yes, he's right. A wise observation from our not quite bright Gerry. I totally agree with all of your comments in that El Chanclas would benefit from a loving makeover. But in thinking it over, it's obvious Magos seems to care about him. Just as he is. Her smile indicates she isn't concerned with his physical appearance and/or lack of manners and clearly enjoys his company. Perhaps I can learn something from Magos.

Because I understand so little of the dialog, I find myself watching scenery and props. Daphne's sandwich was placed artfully on the plate, in halves with what looked like a big juicy olive. As she daintily bit into a fry, I thought this girl even has fun food! She lights up the screen.

Wishing all of you and yours the warmest Thanksgiving!

Diana

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by on the holiday.

What could be better Than Thanksgiving, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and an Antes Muerta Que Lichita recap? A BIG thank you Jarifa for this holiday recap.

The comments so far are running 100% in favor of Chanclas and I agree with them all.
Someone should get Chanclas enrolled in a class that teaches proper manners and appearances--dress. With a little bit of guidance, Chanclas will do just fine. P.S.
Chanclas---Please don't get involved in the hot goods sales business.

The title of Queen of Facial Expressions would have to go to Luciana/Ingrid Martz but little Ximena seemed to at least be in the running. She was cracking me up last night.

Augusto's plans for Alicia? I hope that they fall through---no more tears for Alicia
please.

How will those involved be able to get out of the double wedding that seems to be fast approaching?

must see tv
the gringo

Gracias, Jarifa! I enjoyed the recap. "Ximena cannot believe what she is seeing and looks mortified by it all." Yep, that was the expression exactly.

Thank you so much Jarifa for this, I loved it.

"He is staring right at Alicia with his big sad puppy dog eyes(don't do anything for me anymore)"

I don't like El Chanclas and he is a male Magos always skating by thinking only of himself. Ximena is a child not a puppy.

Don't think Roberto knows or would even care how much he hurts Alicia. At least Ximena was some comfort.
