Antes muerta que Lichita #30 Monday 11/2/15: Finally, somebody who doesn't know who her real father is. About time!

The subtitles were terrible today so my recap is a little vague, feel free to fill in details. A very enjoyable episode because Alicia starts to see improvements in her life due to her own merits.

Mr Reasonable tells Beto that he and his wife, after years of fertility treatments, had managed to have a son, but he died of cancer three years ago and the wife went into a terrible depression and now needs very strong drugs. Beto says, that is very tragic but it doesn't mean you get to have my son, even if he does remind you of your little angel. Mr Reasonable has to try to placate his wife at any costs and insists: "Mateo needs a mother" (though perhaps not a batshit crazy one I say) - he and Beto shake hands and say "may the best man win."

Alex tells Alicia he came to Mexico to forget a broken romance. He cries. She says, you need your family. Also, lots of girls think you're cute. He gives her some excellent advice: to stop turning every word into a diminutive because that makes it sound like she's apologizing to the whole world. (Her mother does it even worse.) She agrees to try.

I have the suspicion that Alex is shorter than Luciana and Chuchette and whenever he's in a scene with them he's standing on a box. What do you think?

Elsa wants to rent that little place and turn it into a cafe or something. Nacho has a tantrum and reminds her, again, that he is head of the family, and he drenches her idea with pessimism. And whines.

Luciana comes to Alicia's desk and tells her to forget trying to conquer Alex, he will never look at anybody so lowly. Alicia cheerfully agrees. That confuses Luciana, who then tells her to seduce Duarte instead.

At the mansion Luciana hangs all over Alex, who gives her the same quizzical look he gives everybody who sucks up to him. She wants to do special things with him; he proposes a reading circle "just the two of us," and later, a jigsaw puzzle. Tee hee.

Surprise! Luciana's mother, Valeria, makes a surprise visit to Mexico. She has a meal with Augusto and tells him Luciana better not marry Alex because Augusto fathered both of them and his grandchildren might have three eyes. No she didn't say that part. But she purrs about the affair she and Augusto had back in the day. They agree they must separate their spawn.

Mags gives a big wad of cash to the skeez who gave her the pocketbooks and phony jewelry. She's unhappy that he takes the whole wad.

What happened to Gumaro's arm?

Oh NOES! First Christmas ads have appeared! Blegh!

Valeria comes to the mansion. She says tentatively, maybe I should go to a hotel, and Luciana agrees that would be a great idea, but Bea sez no, our house is your house. Valeria yells at Luci and tells her she can't marry Alex. Luci is yaddayadda I can't hear you.

Brisa has been invited to stay at Braulio's for a period of time yet to be determined. She moves one of his DVDs which causes him anguish because she puts it back in the non-correct alphabetical section. Then she touches one of his action figures (there are loads of them on the table) and he doesn't like that either. He has been a bachelor too long.

When Alex finds out how long Alicia has been working at Ikonika, he points out it's unfair that she's still an assistant. He is resistant to his dad's idea of making him president of the publicists' organization, seeing as how he has zero experience. Roberto is told to make a campaign promoting Alex. Augusto is going full court press on this.

Nestor starts sucking up to Alex and gives him yet another tour of the joint, but Alex says, "How I hate a lambiscón" which is one of my favorite words (it means fawn over, be sycophantic towards, be obsequious towards, brown-noser, kiss-ass) and Alicia marvels, finally somebody gives it to Nestor!

Alex tells his dad Alicia is his only friend at Ikonika and she deserves better treatment.

The delightful hair guy shows up (I could look at his smile all day) and tells Alicia she's great and her enthusiasm is rare and when she decides what she wants, she'll get it.

Luciana looks and looks for the Duke's missing ring. Turns out Augusto has it and he dangles it in front of her as he tries to neutralize her blackmailing of him with some blackmailing of his own. He says if he sends her back to Patagonia she'll end up behind bars in a non-flattering suit of stripes. And he will NEVER let her marry his son.

The "Operation Czar Alex" presentation is interrupted by Fatima: "Don Augusto, your niece is demanding Alex and is being a real ass." Augusto sends Roberto out to deal with her.

At some point Augusto and Alicia are both out on the prow of the building. He calls her by her entire name (a never-before occurrence) and tells her to convince his son to become czar of the publicists.

The best thing Roberto can think of to do with Luciana is: take her to a hotel. They both get extremely drunk. She is a first-class LOL LOL drunk. She can't go back to holy roller Bea this way, he checks her into the hotel, he says he's leaving but she lies on the bed and tells him to stay, she needs love. He imagines she's Alicia and falls upon her. To be continued.

Tomorrow: Alicia finds out about Luciana and the Duke, and so do some reporters.

I ordinarily hate drunk scenes because my mom was an alcoholic but I loved, loved Luciana in her pickled state.

Thanks so much, Jane! Yes, drunk Luci is hilarious.

So, Luci is Don A's kid? Well, she's certainly more like him than his other two. Unfortunately, he's now changed his mind about making her his scapegoat. Which mean Rob moves to the top of the list. And maybe even Lichita, now that she's on his radar. Yipes!

Loved Alex's advice to Lichita about not using diminutives, and insisting people call her by her real/full name. She needs to use the advice both he and Rob have given her. Of course, probably just being the amiga of Alex will help her move up quickly. Nepotism is a powerful thing.

Let's hope Rob is too drunk to function, or quickly realizes it's Luci he's smooching, not Alicia.

Hi, folks. Sorry to crash, but I want to ask a little favor.

I'm not watching this series but based on the initial cast photos I suspect it's got lots of Fashion Felonies to laugh about. Could someone screen-grab some and send them to me with captions or comments? I'm putting together another Crimes of Fashion gallery. Fun times!

Jane, thank you for the recap. Your insights just made me laugh more. My favorite re: a mother for Mateo "though perhaps not a bat shit crazy one I say." It would be funny if Alex were standing on a box. Ha ha!

Interesting:

Looks like Augusto told Draco that he needed to find out if Luciana really was his daughter. If she is, that would throw a wrench in his "plan".

Alex was smart enough to insist doing the crossword puzzle on the floor and not on Luciana's bed.

Luciana immediately jumped to the conclusion that the reason Augusto did not want her around Alex is that Alex knew some secret about him.

Horror movie lighting (from below) on Roberto's face as he tried to convince Luciana to go out for drinks. I wonder why he was lit in such an unflattering way in that scene.

Magos actually thought she was going to get paid before paying her debt in full to the "hot" purse/jewelry supplier.

Alex called Néstor immediately on his attitude and b.s. Yay!

I sure agree that the funniest part was the drunken Luciana. As for Roberto, he had to be drunk to see her as Alicia.
Braulio and Brisas were just boring. Looks like they doubled up on this episode again.

So much funny and just plain silly made this so enjoyable.

Great recap, Jane--direct and succinct, while swirled with lots of funnies.

Luciana outdid herself as a drunk. ROFLOL! A talented comedienne.

I cheer for each little advance achieved by Alicia.

Jane, loved the recap.

When I saw your picture of Luciana, I burst out laughing. You captured her essence perfectly. I have to say that I am so enjoying Luciana, I cannot wait to see what new and interesting facial contortions she will sport next. Her “drunken” countenance was inspired last night (although I usually don’t care for humor in this vein either Jane).

That said, I was so sorry Roberto obviously got too drunk and imagines Luciana to be Alicia. I am hoping he “comes to” before it’s too late.

Too many excellent lines but "Mateo needs a mother (though perhaps not a batshit crazy one I say)", "he drenches her idea with pessimism" and "They agree they must separate their spawn" were my favorites.

I have a bit of a crush on the “delightful hair guy”. Someone who radiates warmth and caring.

Agree that Alicia is gaining ground and I couldn't be happier.

Jarifa you nailed it with the fact this was “just plain silly”. Indeed! Wonderfully so.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and good wishes. Good to be back.

Diana

Diana- So good to see you back!

The actor playing the Argentine hair dresser has a lovely smile and beautiful eyes, and as you pointed out, radiates warmth. We couldn't help but fall for him as a priest in Mentir Para Vivir. Glad to see him again.

What a great recap Jane. Thank you.

"Nacho has a tantrum and reminds her, again, that he is head of the family, and he drenches her idea with pessimism. And whines"

It was so funny when Roberto was carrying Luciana into the room and both were drunkenly singing.

Even in a comedy I just hate it when there's drunken sex because the beloveds face is superimposed. Not an excuse.

Diana, so glad to have you back!

Jarifa, your avatar is adorable!!

And, thanks to you and Vivi...

Diana

La Paloma, yes! Ingrid Martz is a talented comedienne. Of course she was awfully annoying as Doris in CI. Sort of like the same character with a dramatic twist.

Wonderful recap!! My closed captions have been lagging way behind for the last two, three episodes of this show, which has made it even harder for me to understand.

Yeah for Alicia and every step forward!!

Loved that Nestor was put in his place.

Luci is a hysterical drunk but let's hope Rob comes to his senses quick.

I hope that Alicia won't betray the friendship she is building with Alex by helping Augusto.

So Luci is Augusto's daughter. Does make you worry that Rob will now be the sacrificial lamb.

Thanks, Jane. Terrific recap.

Welcome back, Diana! Hope you feel better with each new day.

Alex didn’t communicate with his little sister all that time because of a bad breakup? Really?

I am now officially sick and tired of Nacho. What a wah wah wah wet blanket. So glad Elsa stood up for herself. Hombre, if you want to be a leader of the family, then lead in encouraging them. This is a crazy notion I know -- but when Elsa first met Augusto and he arrogantly refused to try her coffee, I felt chemistry between those two.

Luciana falling splat on the floor. Too funny. I hope for Daphne’s sake that she turns out not to be Augusto’s spawn. Hurry up with the DNA testing please.

Niecie, I should have (but didn't shame on me) considered immediately how terrible Daphne would feel if Luci was her sister. An inconvenient cousin is one thing, a sister? This one would be another knife in her back.

I meant to mention that I just love how Daphne glares at Luci and the faces she makes at her. She is not impressed!
