Antes Muerta que Lichita #84 1/21/16: Reasons Why Alicia Should Switch to Team Santiago

This is me making an attempt to apply logic to Univision's scheduling antics. Monday was double episode, Tuesday reverted to single episode and another double episode on Wednesday. Shall I take a guess and assume today was a single episode? Who knows I probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than predicting the behaviors of the powers that be in Univision.

Mexico Capitulo #98

Alicia sees Santiago and wonders if he was here for a while, he replies more or less. She then asks if he heard everything...he gives her the same more or less answer. Alicia believes she has some explaining to do but makes the situation worse the more she opens her mouth. She tries to explain that the only way to get the actors of Corazon Enamorado to shoot the commercial was to partake in a romantic scene with Roberto as the body doubles for the bickering costars. Alicia spends much denying and protesting but Santiago patiently waits for her to shut her boca so he can surprise her with a flower. Santiago does not need any explanations. He just wanted to surprise he with a flower before heading back to work.

Reason 1: He knows how to properly woo a girl. Jealousness is below him.

Roberto, since he has nothing better to do like our hardworking Santiago, witnessed the whole encounter between Santiago and Alicia. Roberto confronts Alicia and wants to know what she is doing. Does she want rumors to start again? She does not see the need to give him explanations when he tries to pull the "I'm your boss card" (then please sir act like one). They continue to bicker like 5 year old  children while I consider the pros and cons of pressing the FFW button.

Reason 2: Santiago does not resort to childish, petty behavior.

Bea and Val are outside the church after their awkward encounter in the confessional. Val tries to apologize to Bea. She knows that Bea and her will never go back to being BFF but she sincerely asks for forgiveness for her past transgressions. Bea thinks that only God can forgive her because she will not be doing so anytime soon.

Luciana reflects over their last nights conversation and believes that she and Roberto need to remain closer than ever. For that to happen she will return to Iconika, so she can be like his shadow. Roberto is not amused with this but Nestor and Chuchette interrupts their conversation. Nestor and Chuchette try and convince Luciana she needs to secure her place in Iconika as the daughter of the owner. She does not want Alicia to take her place does she? Luciana of course agrees and tells them both to be her informants. She wants to know everything that is going on to their dismay (Why these two dimwits prefer Luci as their boss beats me...ok well I get Nestor but Chuchette??).

There is no way Magos will miss out on meeting the cast of her favorite novela "Corazon Enamorado". She shows up at the commercial shoot and begs Alicia for an introduction. Magos proceeds to take selfies, invite them to her birthday party and even gets saved from chocking by the galan. By the time Alicia shoos her out, for fear of her becoming more embarrassing, Magos thinks their BFFs.

Roberto and Don Augusto have a little one on one in his office. Roberto never thought Bea would reveal to API board members her desire to divorce. He wants to remind Augusto that he is on his side. Buuuttt he wants to know a few details...like why does he still want to have control over API? What is he planning? Don Augusto wants to know why Roberto thinks he has something to hide. Roberto just wants Don Augusto to confide in him more. He clearly is not wearing the same investigative hat he wore back in the Chanclas days because he continues to pester Don Augusto about his plans for Iconika USA. Don Augusto believes he can prevent Bea from involving herself with Iconika USA. Once he accomplishes that he will let Iconicka Mexico run itself to the ground. Don Augusto dismisses Roberto and wonders to himself why Roberto is asking so many questions.

Magos retells her encounter of meeting the cast of Corazon Enamorado and shows her pics as proof. Meanwhile, Alicia looks at apartment listings on her laptop. Nacho sees this and wonders why she is looking apartments. Alicia believes she will one day move out and live alone. Nacho for whatever reason seems miffed at not being informed or advised sooner. Alicia explains that she eventually wants to be more independent. Nacho does not want to hear this...before you know it, it will be Ximena leaving him (funny how he did not mention Magos). Valeria wakes up from her stupor to ask what age Elsa and Nacho were when Elsa was pregnant with Alicia. The kids never thought about this and are now curious as well. Alicia does not remember them being super young when she was little and Magos chimes in that she does not also understand their rush to leave and get married. (I did not catch this conversation very well so please clarify in comments.) Even though Elsa and Nacho remains mum and scolds them for digging into their private lives we all know there is a juicy story here.

Roberto and Gumaro meet in their usual meeting place. Roberto is convinced that Don Augusto is a horrible person without morals. We also learn that  he will not bother Sheila for now but try and figure out who the person she is working with. Luciana interrupts them and wonders why they are together. They make up some excuses and during this Luciana lets it slip that Gumaro helps her with the bonsai plants. Now its Gumaro's turn to make up lame excuses. Luciana rushes her hubby away before any more slip up occurs between the three of them.

Bea finds Augusto in their former bedroom. She wants him to take his things once and for all so he can stop coming back. Augusto refuses to do so, in fact he will only be going to a different room. He does not want to give her an excuse to say he abandoned his house/family in their divorce so that she can leave him with nothing on his back. Bea may not lie but her devious brother who is a lawyer can do so, all for her benefit.

Reason 3: He does not act like a madman and personifies a calm demeanor.

Magos friends interrupt the awkward moment within the Guiterrez family. Her birthday party consists of her few friends quietly celebrating over cake. The rest of the family is impressed that Magos is maturing (love sure is blind). Even Ximena convinces the rest of the family to let Magos and her friends stay back while the rest of the clan returns home. No sooner do they leave the real celebrations begin. Later it turns out that the actors from Corazon Enamorado shows up to their small party. Things begin to get loud and out of hand which draws attention from the neighbors.

Don Augusto warns Bea that she does not want to know him as an enemy. He will fight for what he thinks is rightfully his. Dafne hears their shouting from her room and goes to intervene. Don Augusto pleads to Dafne that her mother has changed. She claims to be Christian and yet she cannot forgive him and wants to kick him out of the house. Dafne thankfully does not fall for his manipulations. Dafne wants to know if her mother wants to talk. She wants her mom to know that she supports her decision. Bea being Bea does not acknowledge Dafne but asks to be alone. Dafne  begins to wonder why she remains in the house if they continue to treat her like they do. She might as well go to an orphanage or something.

Reason 4: He knows how to communicate and also has a romantic side.

Santiago calls Alicia and invites her out to dinner. She happily accepts and they end up at the same restaurant as Luciana and Roberto. Her demeanor completely changes with Santiago. Unfortunately for them Luciana spots them and insinuates that there most be something going on between them. Ever the gentleman, Santiago takes the blame for Alicia working so late and politely excuses them from their table. Alicia's demeanor does not change when they seat separately and he wants to cut to the chase. Does or did she have feelings for Roberto? Alicia confesses that Roberto was her first love and she cannot get over him (facepalm...how could you still want a Ford when you can upgrade to a shiny new dependable Rolls Royce!).

Reason 5: Who can resist such a face?

Other events: Braulio and Brisa spend a whole day together and seemed to be getting along. They come home and Brisa says that are married (through some spiritual ceremony Braulio was unaware of). This causes them to fight and Braulio wants to take a break from their relationship.

Comments:

If this was a double episode please discuss the remainder of the episode in the comments and I can quickly slap a summary together from the comments during lunch hour.

Why oh why can Alicia not forget Roberto?? He has shown nothing but his pettiness, childish ways and immaturity these past few episodes. I mean he treats her family well and he did instill some type of confidence in her in the beginning but that is just not enough for me.

Best one liner: When Braulio remarks to Brisa that marriage is a crime that is why they request witnesses!! Lol!

Cece, Thanks for the great recap. This was a single episode. You never can predict what Univisión does. Your screen caps and captions were the best!

At one point last night, it was clarified why Elsa got upset at the cemetery in the Wed. episode and wanted to go when Nacho was talking about his business ideas and mentioned "we all have a dear/little dead person we want to remember." In this episode in a conversation with Elsa talking about the passage of time, Nacho talks about being able to hold Alicia, Magos, Ximena and that "other little baby" right there on his arm. Sounds like they lost a baby. Can't help you with the earlier conversation about when they got married and who was born when. Wasn't really paying attention. : (

I felt so sorry for Dafne. She supports her mother in the divorce because of Augusto's cheating, even gets all in his face about it and still only gets a "get lost" response from Beatriz.

Looks like Magos knows they need to close the doors on the business and lower the volume but will choose to act foolishly again and wake up the neighborhood. Oh, and the beers on full display that she CHARGED everyone for except the actors . . . Can I predict this is just begging for someone in the neighborhood to call the police?

Luciana and Gumaro were at their best in their interaction with Roberto.

Awesome CeCe you got all the juicy stuff and thanks.

I missed the Braulio remark about needing witnesses and that is funny.

Thought twice Nacho and Elsa have referred to another child. Perhaps I heard wrong.

Nacho was also a little sensitive about Alicia moving, believing Alicia wanted to live in a better place and neighborhood, but she shut that down.

As far as Alicia has come she allows Roberto to berate and belittle. That bothers me more than how much a wienie Roberto is. I still watch but don't understand creating a character so unlikable yet he gets the girl. Alicia wants him to hurt like he made her hurt and this sparing and rejection and sparing and rejection, his road to the prize? Is this part of settling the score? So what she has a guy interested, it hurts Roberto and she gets a pound of his flesh but in the process Roberto gets two pounds of hers. Roberto the weasel wins by attrition a fight that shouldn't be fought.

Cannot wait till Augusto sees he may have competition and it isn't Roberto. If I could pull Santiago aside I would warn him.

Pleasantly surprised Magos looked worried when the party began to get away from her.

Thanks, Cece! I haven't seen this episode yet, but might have some insight into the Elsa/Nacho baby. Some time ago we learned that Elsa and Nacho got married because she got pregnant. Magos felt vindicated since she feels like they were always criticizing her for getting pregnant. The assumption was that Alicia was that baby. But perhaps that first baby actually died, and Alicia came many years later, explaining why they aren't young parents.

And thanks for the great pics, especially of Santiago.

CeCe, I enjoyed every sparkling word of your fabulous recap.

Ummm, is there really a contest between Roberto and Santiago? :) I'm sorry - Roberto is OK but was clearly never meant to be the knight in shining armor galan. There is simply no comparison. As you so cleverly noted: "He knows how to properly woo a girl. Jealousness is below him". Period. 'Nuff said.

"He clearly is not wearing the same investigative hat he wore back in the Chanclas days because he continues to pester Don Augusto" was another favorite line.

Saddest moment for me was clearly "Bea being Bea does not acknowledge Dafne but asks to be alone". Poor Dafne! How she has the slightest bit of self esteem left is a miracle. She deserves to be loved and cherished and with Rafael and Valeria gone and Alex still notably absent and unattentive (grrrr), the odds are slim.

I was thinking Elsa and Nacho lost a child as well (the child she was expecting when they got married). But, I have a feeling (and am likely way off base) that there is also something else - Alicia being adopted perhaps? There is some twist here, I am sure.

I hope the not so pious Bea is able to continue to hold her own against Augusto. Would like to see him penniless and out on the street.

I am going to come back here several times today. To catch up with the comments and because I am here, I might as well drink in the vision that is Santiago. Truly the man dreams are made of.

Nice to see you, Jarifa, tofie, Jarifa and Vivi this morning.

Happy Friday all!

Diana

Thanks Cece for the recap! Thank you Jarifa for prior night's recap! I was offline yesterday.

I tend not to pay attention to the Brisa and Braulio scenes so thanks for the great line he threw out!

Poor Dafne. I feel like I say that over and over. Why can't Bea love her? Is there another story there? Rafa and Dafne got so close that I was hoping he was her father but that hope was blown out.

How will Augie take Alicia having a stud, i mean gentleman, strong, successful businessman as a boyfriend? Not well I'm sure.

So Elsa and Nacho lost a child. I wonder how and why they never mentioned it to Alicia and Magos?

Now I love Alicia but so far I can't see what Santiago sees in her. She has acted like a complete weirdo most of the time. First, she throws her phone at him. Next they run into each other at the cafe and she speaks non-stop like some crazy woman, before even finding out his name. And when she does, she acts crazy again apologizing. So at this point he should have been running. Next we see them together at an Iconika meeting where I guess she is more normal. They go out, he finally gets to talk about himself and two sentences in she kisses him. Now she is acting all weird again at dinner bec Rob and Luci are there. Where has the sweet Alicia gone and why has she been replaced with this neurotic one?

Carvivlie, sort of the old "love at first sight" maybe "physical attraction at first sight"? I ask the same about Alicia: what does she see in Roberto? He has actively worked against her to insure his own employment for whatever self serving excuses he wants to use and she just can't shake him????

Carvivlie, I hadn't considered it but you are so right - the new Alicia is certainly more frantic and frenzied than before. She spoke softly, sweetly and sincerely and was not easily rattled (even though the vipers (Nestor, Chuchette) constantly stung).

From Santiago's perspective, what did cause the scattered Alicia to catch his eye? Other than being beautiful of course :)

Diana

Didn't Santiago's employee send his boss the article about Alicia's business triumphs, and knew his boss would be interested in her?

Valid point Jarifa. I think Alicia can't shake Rob because he was the first person to be nice to her and try to help her, even if it was after stealing from her.

Yeah Vivi, I think that's what happened. I'm just surprised that her craziness hasn't trumped her business triumphs. But now you are making me wonder if he could be using her? Gosh I hope not! Not another one!! :)

Diana, I'm betting a man will overlook a lot if you look like Maite!

Yay for single episodes!

Jarifa: ITA. I dont understand why she is so against Dafne. It is not like she is incapable of feelings...she clearly loves her son Alex despite not agreeing with his lifestyle.

Tofie: Dont know what Magos was thinking. She watches enough tv to know that when you through a secret party unbeknownst to the parents you almost always get caught.

Diana: You are right..there is no contest. Santiago would win hands down. Also, I too think that there is more to the story with them losing their child. I know its painful but why would they keep it a secret from their children?

Vivi: Thanks for clearing that up. I really wish I had subtitles for moments like this. In some previous episode one of Santiago's employees mentioned that Alicia would be great for Santiago. He clearly was not wrong.

Carvivlie: You are right about Alicia acting a little suspect around Santiago. She drops her awkwardness when she looses herself in the moment but if there are employees around her franticness goes way high. I assume he is attracted because she has both beauty and brains? She is not all fluff like that model he dated.

Thanks, Cece. Great recap. Loved all your commentary.

I can see Nacho and Elsa not telling their kids about the loss of their baby. Too painful, plus uncomfortable bringing up the fact they had a shotgun wedding.

ITA Alicia still pining for Roberto is just dumb. He's married. I wouldn't blame Santiago for thinking she's got a screw loose.

I kind of felt bad for Magos too. It's always a shame when a good wild party goes too far. But Magos never learns.

THANK YOU CeCe--You were right on top of it today. LOL with Why would you want a Ford when you can upgrade to a Rolls Royce?

Marriage is a crime because you need witnesses. So funny. I had never thought of that.

Really---I can't blame Magos for having a birthday party and wanting the novela cast to attend. That would be a dream come true. She did look worried though when things started to get out of control. had found myself saying, oh no Magos, not again?

Carvivlie---What does Santiago see in her? Well for one , he has eyes and eyes work very well 20-20. Next you went down a negative list, a list of faults if you will but You hit the nail on the head and probably didn't realize it. Alicia/Maite kissed him. Get it now? It's Maite.

When Nacho was suggesting that he maybe could work in the cemetery, it was too uncomfortable for Elsa if the lost baby at birth assumption was/is true.

must see tv
the gringo
