Antes Muerta que Lichita #89 Thursday 1/28/16. "Tantrums, Entitlement & Other Revelations"

Lets jump right in:

Sheila calls Roberto out to the park to figure out why he blew them off the other day. Roberto reveals that he was confronted by someone whom he did not want them to meet. I'm sure by now she is wondering why she did not just use a cell phone like a normal person if she wanted to chat. Roberto makes her outing a little worthwhile by offering to buy her out in exchange of giving up custody of Mateo. It does not take Sheila long to realize that this is a good preposition for her but first she must consult with her partner in crime. Roberto sneakily attempts to set up a meeting with this partner of hers but Sheila is smarter than she looks and does not fall for this trick.

We assume time passes as we get a montage of scenes where Roberto teaches an uninterested Luciana the tricks of the trade, Braulio and Alicia start moving in to their new apartment. Bea and Elias seem to be forming a friendship as Elias spends time teaching her about Iconika.

There are a long list of flaws which are highlighted every
episode so there is no need to rehash.

It is the day to announce Iconika's new General Director. Alicia presents her ideas for People's Cafe campaign to Santiago and the rest of the team. Luciana also vaguely throws some ideas with themes of what Luciana deems important like looking cool, being beautiful. Santiago remains objective and wishes them to work together to come up with more great ideas. He also wishes them both luck today with the announcement.

Sandra realizes that her "spy" at Iconika betrayed her... It seems that Iconika went ahead and went through with a campaign that Madelene pitched to another client (not sure about this so please correct me if I am wrong). Later she meets with said client (??) and they talk about the blog of the moment...Daffy. The client believes that the writer of this blog conveys the values/ideas that he feels is advantageous for their marketing.

Aaannnd the moment of truth arrives...everyone gathers to hear who Bea and Don Augusto will name the next creative director. But before they can even announce the person Luciana starts giving her acceptance speech (this girl never learns). Unfortunately for her, Alicia Gutierrez is named for the position. Luciana throws one of her  epic tantrums which showcases why she should not be named for this position (or anything of importance in that company, IMO).

Our "wonky" yet sane character (in the sea of true
lunatics at Iconika) who provides Alicia true mentorship.

At the Cafe shop, Gerry and the other friend (name??) are apparently an item now. Magos misses the feeling of being in love/loved. Not too long after, the somewhat flustered insurance guy makes an appearance. Elsa plays matchmaker and makes Magos shine in his eyes (she's more responsible being the resounding theme). Magos poses and smiles while her Mom lays it on thick by offering him free coffee. When the two are alone again, Magos thinks that insurance guy is alright but Elsa convinces her that he seems like a nice guy that she should give a chance.

Alicia rubs her win over Luciana in Roberto's face. He does not like the fact that she is making presumptions about his actions (consequence of your actions buddy). He warns Alicia to be careful with this new position. She takes it as a threat and informs him that this is actually why bullying will be her first cause to tackle. She wants to change the toxic environment that is called Iconika. Instead of praising her for her efforts or at least willingness to take on a huge challenge he laughs in her face for trying to "save the world". Santiago saves us from the rest of this idiocy and announces to the whole group that all his brands will be handled by Iconika from now on.

Luciana continues her tantrum in Augusto's office. Everyone tells her to stop with the dramatics and move on. Since one should not be alone in there misery she decides to throw Alex under the bus by informing his parents his want to work with the travel agencies that caters to LGBT clientele. Both parents are outraged and a yelling match ensues. The attention shifts from Luciana and she tries to drive the arguments back to her "struggles" which fails. Alex finds his father's judgement a little hypocritical when he is the one with countless affairs. Bea wants the two to forgive each other as God would. This could go on forever but finally Roberto, the peacemaker, interjects with his two cents: everyone is too heated at the moment and nothing is going to get solved in this state.

Alicia's #1, 2, & 3 fan who has flaws but always supports her.

Nestor, Luci and Chuchette do nothing but scheme. They try and encourage Luci that she is still the owner's daughter. Chuchette even tries to get her to speak her worth into existence with her favorite chants these days but Luci's is just not into it. Nestor the pest attempts to involve Luciana in a scheme to get back at Alicia but Luciana is not in the mood for childish games. Instead, she turns to shopping to restore her inner peace and happiness (and finally, something I can identify with Luciana in something)

Santiago and Alicia escape from work to relay the news to her parents. Augusto will make the announcement officially at the event tonight but only media is allowed. Santiago decided to throw her a congratulatory party so that her parents can celebrate this achievement with her. On their way out, Roberto shows up at the Cafe and sees the two together. Thankfully, the goggly eyes and near kiss moments are nonexistent in this scene which makes me believe for once that she does not care what Roberto thinks.

Luciana's shopping spree does not calm her nerves. She is frantically looking for someone to carry her shopping bags inside the house. While arguing with the housekeeper she trips and "hurts" her ankle. Gumaro carries her to her room and they begin their usual dance. Things get a little heated and for a second it seems Gumaro has some guilty feelings about his actions and appears to walk away from temptation. Alas, such is not the case...he just wants to lock the door so they could continue their rendezvous in peace.

Nestor continues his path towards professionalism by starting a rumor that questions Alicia's newly minted position as general creative director. Saying that Santiago is only reason she even obtained such a lofty position.

Don Augusto wants Draco to begin Alicia's eventual fall from grace by getting her to sign papers from his "business" associates.

While he often acts like a deer in headlights, he is a BFF that
always supported her endeavors.

Dafne comes home from school and catches Gumaro leaving Luciana's room. She puts two and two together rather quickly. She finds him outside and grills him on how he likes the house and especially how well he gets along with Luciana. She lies and says she needed help moving furniture but he was nowhere to be found. Gumaro is no match for Dafne was remained flustered the entire interview.

Alicia promises Alex that she will try and get Augusto to support his working with the travel agency. He comments on how she has changed... more confident than before. She compliments back that he also seems more sure of himself now that he has come to terms with who he is.

It has come time for Alicia to move..everyone sheds the mandatory tear in the send off. Alicia reminds them this is not a goodbye. Family is and will always be the most important thing to her.

Marcelo surprises us with this reappearance. He is going to doll Alicia up for her important moment tonight. She updates him on her great her life has been recently. She has a doting boyfriend and she achieved her dream position.

One of the few consistent men who gives sound advice on
inner beauty and instills confidence in Alicia.

The night arrives and we get a moment of truth. Alicia and Roberto meetup and do their usual dance which we have seen a hundred times. Santiago appears on scene and Roberto cannot hold the jealousy in. He lets slip the real reason why Alicia got her position is none other than Santiago. Santiago eventually admits that he made a preposition with Don Augusto to give Alicia the position if he hands over all his brand marketing to Iconika. Shocked faces around (minus Roberto).

Shut the front door! A telenovela character actually makes sure
the door is locked.

CeCe, love your recaps and thank you for this one.

"Santiago saves us from the rest of this idiocy" Well not for much longer. Again, Roberto will do anything to hurt Alicia. He wants her to be miserable, broken and alone.

I get Santiago must be perfect, though no one is, and should not have attempted to make the deal with Augusto since he is held to a higher standard. However, the decision was not made solely by Augusto but jointly with Beatriz and her mentor is none other than, Elias.

Arath, his facial and body contortions could be Mexico's Jim Carrey

The guy interested in Magos works collections for the credit card company. He has always seemed interested romantically, just a little odd

I find it odd to have a PSA moment about kids and social media from a con man.

CeCe, I loved the recap and the screencaps especially the last one "Shut the front door! A telenovela character actually makes sure the door locked."

Tofie, great observation about a PSA from a con man.

!!!!!!!!!!"Últimas semanas" was announced at the end of the episode for what I think was the first time last night!!!!!!!

Seriously, if they want Alicia to end up with Roberto, why have they made him so obnoxious and mean in yesterday and today's episode? I have not been a Roberto fan for a while but now really really dislike him. Too bad we cannot have a new guy waltz on through at the end, sweep Alicia off her feet and Voilà! leave Roberto and Santiago alone in the dust!!!

Highlights:

Luciana having to remind her quarreling family that it was supposed to be "all about her" not being named to the general director position.

Gumaro being smart enough to lock the bedroom door.

Dafne giving Gumaro the chips to eat to keep him talking, then grabbing the bag back when she was done with him.

I wonder who Sheila is with.

For those of you who like Hispanic movies: A couple days back, they showed an ad for a new movie "Busco un novio para mi mujer" ("I am looking for a boyfriend for my wife")which is supposed to be released 2/19. Looked like a cute romantic comedy. Funny, I have been at the movies a lot recently but have not seen a trailer. Anybody see a trailer for this one? Anyway, it has Arath de la Torre and one of my comedic favorites: Jesús de Ochoa (just saw him in "Entre Nos" on Netflix).

CeCe, this was superb. Simply great.

Your pic of Elias was great as was the caption Our "wonky" yet sane character (in the sea of true lunatics at Iconika).

"Shut the front door! A telenovela character actually makes sure
the door is locked" combined with the screen shot of the usually not so adept Gumaro made my day.

"She wants to change the toxic environment that is called Iconika" and "Instead, she turns to shopping to restore her inner peace and happiness (and finally, something I can identify with Luciana in something)" were other great lines.

The scene of Gumaro and Dafne was last night's favorite for me. Completely outmatched, Gumaro (stuffing chips into his mouth), fervently but futilely trying to come up with some sort of defense was so much fun. Even Dafne had to smile.

Why can’t I get behind Roberto? There are so many reasons including “Instead of praising her for her efforts or at least willingness to take on a huge challenge he laughs in her face for trying to "save the world".

I think Alicia and Dafne should start their own business. Two fierce, talented women on their own in the real world. THAT should be a TN all its own.

Diana

Seen some pretty nasty behavior by "galans" recently and I fail to see the point since at the end they still get the girl. Is this some plot prop to show how to create a strong woman? You know, pound them into the ground and if they survive the abuse they win? How about not putting up with the crap from the getgo, telling an abusive, jealous, possessive lying loser to take a hike cause love and/or chemistry shouldn't require you be a punching bag.

Tofie, well put!

Thank You CeCe. Great work. What fun seeing Daf at the right place at the right time catching Gummy Bears leaving the Den of 'Dultery. I really enjoyed watching Daf making Luci squirm at dinner with her little offhand comments and questions.

Now Dafne has some real power, and she is smart enough to use it. I don't see her as being mean in the least, but I'd bet she does understand 'what goes around comes around.' for Loosey. Daf has been and is still my favorite one in this show.

There is not enough redemption in all TeleNovelaLand for me to ever be on Team Roberto. He and Loosey Legs are just right for each other.

Wonderful recap!

So I've been hanging on by my fingernails to team Rob but last night was the last straw. First, he knows she deserves the job, no matter how she got it. Two, his outing Santi was all about him, not Alicia. Third, he didn't care how hurt she would be. Fourth, if you love someone you want them to be happy. Fifth, he is MARRIED. His choice.

Unfortunately, after kissing Santi, Alicia looked disappointed. Seems nothing chemical is happening for her on that side so I guess Santi won't be around much longer. Boo

Jarifa, I'm with you. I would love a true galan to come and whisk Alicia away!

Gumaro locking the door was priceless! Unfortunately he didn't look both ways while exiting the room. Love that Dafne had him under her thumb! She is great.

I like Alicia's new haircut. I'm not sure I could pull it off since my hair is fine, if long.

Elias and Bea are a hoot!

Avances look like that video B&B have been looking for is going to be used to try and destroy Alicia. How will she recover? If she still has her position I hope she is able to fire those responsible, i.e. Nestor and Chuchette. If she has no power then her job is meaningless.

Didn't know we were so close to ultimas semanas. I will miss this show. It has been one of the better comedies I've seen.

Cece- Brilliant recap, and great screencaps!

ITA with all of you about Roberto. Even if supposedly his stated goal is to "protect" Alicia by distancing her from Augusto, just how does he think belittling her and breaking her heart (in a public setting, no less) is going to do that? Naw, this was all about him and his jealousy. I'm done with him.

I still don't think what Santi did is kick-to-the-curb worthy. But if Alicia isn't attracted to him, that should be her real reason for breaking things off with him.

The thing about the video, and what Alicia 1.0 said in it, is that everything she said is TRUE. It was true back then, when she was a lowly, awkward assistant, shat upon by every employee, and it's true NOW, when she's a hot and hotshot exec, shat upon by every employee.

Not attracted to nor wanting Santiago I can accept. Wanting Roberto I cannot. Roberto wants to remain married to Luciana and have Alicia on the side underfoot like Augusto kept Sandra. Until Alicia capitulates he will continue to attack her.

Tofie ITA agreement with your analysis on Roberto bringing Alicia down to his level of misery. Its seems like so long ago that he was the one supporting her and trying to instill confidence in her when she was just an assistant. As much as I dislike how the character is written Arath is doing a great job with all his exaggerations.

Jarifa: I am beginning to think that Sheila may be with the detective or maybe someone the detective knows. Why else did they have the scene where Roberto was about to tell the detective about their little deal but then backtracked.

Diana: too bad Alicia does not see her worth. She is holding like all the clients in Iconika. She has so much negotiating power that she does not tap into nor her coworkers appreciate. Why she has not left ages ago is beyond me.

Kirbo: "Gummy Bear" & "Loosey Legs"...lol. Love your nicknames.

Even if Alicia isn't quite ready to flee Iconika yet, I'd at least like to see her thinking about it.

Últimas semanas: from what I could find: the novela following Lichita in Mexico (Osorio's "Sueño de amor")starts 2/22/16. We are about 10 episodes behind. Guess it really is últimas semanas.

Vivi, I can't remember that last time I saw the word "shat", twice no less. Thanks for that, lol!!

I like Arath but then I wonder if I would like Rob more if it was a different actor playing him, with less buffoonery and schtick. IDK

Carvivlie- You're welcome. :)

CeCe thanks. A loooong time ago on Caray it was common entertainment to rename all the interesting characters on these sappy TeleNovelas. When I first started reading the recaps, I couldn't even follow the English recaps, because none of the characters were referred to by their Spanish Or English equivalent names, but rather some name which amusingly described them. IE:Loose Legs when Gummy is around. If you were a boring, nondescript being, you did not get a name. Even as recently as MCET I remember the Villanueva girl had a dozen different names her character was so hated. We are just here to have a little fun, after all.

Carvivlie: I noticed a slight change in Alicia's hair but I could not quite put my finger on what changed...I thought the color was a little lightened.

Vivi: I too would appreciate her moving in her though process. Only then will I believe she is half as smart as every claims she is. Or maybe she is lacking in the common sense department.

I forgot to mention my fav moments:

I am loving the growing friendship between Elias and Bea...when Elias was quoting some scripture (not sure if it was intentional or not) they did a little fist bump which I found so funny....guess its the little things for me.

Also when Santiago let it slip that Alicia will not be staying in her new house for very long which he did a fast recovery of brushing it off. Too bad clueless Alicia did not catch on to his real meaning of her getting hitch to him soon.

Great job CeCe. A very enjoyable read.

I don't want this cute show to end. I'll be sad when it does.

No time today but I did get to read all of the comments. The patio's comments are always great.

I got a kick out of the Dafne--Gumaro chip scene last night. I guess that everyone liked it as well as Gumaro locking the door. Who would have guessed that one?

I'm with Vivi about the Alicia video. That was then--way back then, not now. So what if the video gets out? The way that Alicia was treated early on, who could blame her for being bitter?

Have to run.

must see tv
the gringo

Cece, it looks like they chopped the front of her hair at the chin level and left the back long. The color looked kinda bluish to me but could have been the lights.
