Antes muerta que Lichita Monday February 8: my plane home got cancelled...

Yes, I am snowed in where there is no Univision. I asked Ezra to cover for me but he hasn't answered. So, sorry, please talk among yourselves. I want to know what happened too!

That's OK. We will figure it out. But in my house it was replaced by the X-Files.

Sorry your plane got cancelled Jane!

Unfortunately, I missed the entire episode so can't contribute a thing.

I'm sure Jarifa will have a few juicy tidbits for us...

Diana

Jane, so sorry to hear your plane got cancelled. I am waking up to snow this a.m. nothing like that. Here is hoping you are back home soon. Nothing worse than being stuck at the airport.

This is what I got while making dinner:

Part one:

We see the whole conversation between a wonderfully (sorry, guys) arrogant, sarcastic and condescending Alicia and the usual " but my reasons for being a jerk are so much important than yours and I sacrificed so much more than you because I am the only one who matters" Roberto. She tells him that she has been a great apprentice of his: ambition is the bottom line: they just a couple of losers who would do anything to get ahead. ( if they do end up together, just the memory of this "dressing down" should keep Roberto in line forever) He cannot believe she knows all about him and his background. So much of it is lies. He tells her she "has to" hear the truth. She rightfully tells him that she does not "have to" do anything. (Yay!)

Nasty Sandra is bitchy and does publish the photo of Dafne. It has the desired effect with online comments like Dafne's relatives must be whales. Dafne is devastated but Beatriz (still clumsy and uncomfortable in her maternal role) does her best to comfort and support her.
Beatriz tells her the problem is not her weight but her health.

Just when Brisa thinks that she has convinced Braulio that love is the driving force of life, he agrees: yes! it is the love for his first opera. She leaves in a huff. Turns out that getting his opera launched is harder than he had thought. Investors? Maybe he needs a producer. Alicia gives huma pep talk.

Luciana has it bad for Gumaro. He is still calling her "señora" and accusing her of only wanting him for her "basest desires" "sex".

Nacho and Elsa are ready to go on vacation. Nacho is still not sure about leaving the business with Nacho and Elsa. (Did he lose their vacation money with the scammers, too???). Anyway, before they leave, they give Magos a check paying off the rest of their credit card debt. To hr credit, she does not want to take it, but they insist.

Part two:

Carmona calls Roberto. He wants him to stay with Luciana so he can maintain Augusto's confidence. He wants Roberto to help him set up Augusto so they can bring him down like Vladimir. Roberto is not too sure and is concerned about getting Mateo back from Sheila. Carmona tells him that if he wants to facilitate everything he needs to drop all of his deceptions and do what he has to do like a man. (Just like Gumaro has been telling him: tell the truth) Looks like they will be setting up Augusto. Gumaro agrees when he hears the plan.

Alicia chews out her team for not being able to find out who the author of the "Dafy" blog is. She already knows it is Dafne and texts her to set up a meeting. Dafne is surprised.

Luciana shows up at the Cafecito. It looks like she is ready for a fight. Why??? When Magos asks her what she would like, she tells her not to call her "tú" because they are not equals.

There is some mysterious meeting going on. First Augusto tells Alicia he cannot go and he wants her to represent him. He then changes his mind and tells her Roberto, being a member of the family and being a man, will represent him. Alicia rakes issue with that. She asks him if he really knows all about his son in law Roberto's background. Yes, he does. Augusto decides he will go to the meeting himself. He asks if Alicia is willing to sign something for him when asked to do so. She agrees. He wants her to be ready. Next thing we know Roberto and Gumaro are tracking Augusto on his way to the meeting. To Roberto's surprise Alicia appears on the scene. Will she fall into Augusto's trap?

Jarifa, your recaps are all enthralling. This was perfect. Truly.

"We see the whole conversation between a wonderfully (sorry, guys) arrogant, sarcastic and condescending Alicia and the usual " but my reasons for being a jerk are so much important than yours and I sacrificed so much more than you because I am the only one who matters" Roberto" was wonderful.

"She tells him that she has been a great apprentice of his: ambition is the bottom line: they just a couple of losers who would do anything to get ahead. ( if they do end up together, just the memory of this "dressing down" should keep Roberto in line forever)" was inspired.

I've always felt some women do not support or promote other women to the degree they should. You've made me reexamine my feeling that I wanted the old Alicia back. Yes, I want her sense of humor and laughter back. But, maybe she had to toughen up and fight fire with fire. Perhaps I got too wound up in the new clothes and "look" and should have realized she is trying to find her rightful place. Wasn't happy she went down to others' level on a few occasions, but she was entitled to be promoted for years, not denigrated, belittled and kept down.

I am salivating thinking of everyone banding together to bring Augusto down! What a fall it will be (he being so larger than life). Also, I would like to see Nestor and Chuchette out on the street. With nothing. Am I a terrible person???

Jarifa, you've made my day.

Hoping you are home soon Jane...

Diana

No, you are not a terrible person, Diana. If you are, then that makes two of us. : ) and that is okay by me!

I just don't want Alicia being hood winked by Augusto and then Roberto having to "rescue" her with her new independent fighting truth speaking attitude being somehow the reason, i.e. victim blaming. Don't want to see this as a "morality" play with Alicia being punished for not being"nice" enough or for not hiding her strength enough.

Many thanks Jarifa for coming to Jane's and our aid.

For Roberto there is always a "but"

Alicia always was committed to her career and Icónika so what's her sacrifice for ambition? Choose a fulfilling career that pays over love of a man child that has never had a real job? I'd choose fulfilling career every time. I argue Alicia and Roberto are not the same and ambition not the crime. Roberto is not ambitious. Ambition takes hard work and commitment. The only work Roberto does is talking his way out of taking blame when he is found out.

Why does Nestor and Chuchette still have a job? Beyond me

Magos gets another pass. Great to be Magos I guess.

I must be stupid cause I have no idea what's going on with Brisa and Braulio.

Tofie, re: Brisa and Braulio, I am right there with you and in my case, I just don't care.

Not romantic and I hate these stories of a helpless waif and a charming dashing dude coming to her rescue from evil incarnate. The waif Alicia is forever grateful Roberto is hovering with an umbrella (matters not that he stole the umbrella) because she's too stupid to get out of the rain. Augusto has to be so bad to make Roberto seem princely when the story should have been the princely Santiago, with encouragement and steadfastness, convinces Alicia she need not suffer a life of lies and disappointment. Instead, happy times for her when she is hopeful Roberto's lie is truth and disappointment when she discovers Roberto's lie was never true.

Jane- I hope you get home soon!
Jarifa- Thank you for the excellent mini recap!

I still can't believe Alicia is being silly enough to just sign things for Augusto without reading it first. Arrgg!! Loved her dressing Rob down though, and happy to see her taking more control of the worthless crew at Iconika.

I agree with Tofie. I also doubt Alicia would have been dumb enough to sign a bunch of stuff without looking at it.

Thanks Jarifa!

Alicia is so focused on doing a great job and getting Augie to have confidence in her that I can see why she is just signing away. In her eyes he is a philanderer but one who has supported her career. She is still naive about some things.

How low of Sandra to go after a child? Especially when she knows she deserved what that child did to her. Not sure Sandra has received a big enough anvil.

Rob brought this all on himself. He kept putting off telling Alicia the truth. She was totally right to treat him the way that she did. Rob has a lot to make up for.

I too want to see Nestor and Chuchette taken down. I had hope for Chuchette when she was spending time with Rafa but she hasn't turned a new leaf.

Thought it was funny that Luci went off on Rob for wanting naca Alicia when she is with Gummy. Also, Luci finally reaching out to see her mother. About time.

Magos gets out of another jam. Is she learning any lesson? Elsa bails her out every single time. Her turning it down just isn't enough to show me that she is getting her life together. Poor Xime.

Let's say Roberto finally is allowed to tell the whole truth. That is no excuse for doing what he did nor does it mean he won't do it again. He is lazy, irresponsible, uneducated, unskilled, has no home, car, clothes or anything of his own. He has two ways of feeding himself and that is to trick someone to feed him or steal. He is not 14 but over 30. There should be an expiration date for failure to launch.

Tofiemaster: That is one of the best if not the best. "An expiration date for failure to launch."

tofie: He does own some nice clothes and he bought that apartment that Val is staying in. I don't think he is lazy. Uneducated, yes but can't fault him for that. I mean he aged out of an orphanage with the clothes on his back. Irresponsible, I think that can go both ways. He is trying to be responsible but doing it in an irresponsible way. He does have skills, con man skills, and leadership skills. I know you hate him but let's give him his due. He has done some good things. He gave Elsa and Nacho money to open the cafe. He saved Magos and Xime in the car accident. He got Vlad put in jail. He obviously came out of the orphanage with nothing, got duped and went to jail, came out with nothing and needed to get his son out of the orphanage. He has made lots and lots of bad mistakes but at heart he is good and I'm rooting for him to keep growing and get better.

I cannot give the buffoon a pass. A con man cons or is a hedge-fund manager.

I know a young man orphaned before he was ten, lived on the streets and in his early 20's despite no formal education committed to train and became a surgeon and is now the head of a hospital in Nepal. I been told by the foreign doctors that trained him he is a better surgeon than they.

Jarifa, braviisimo for pulling this off so beautifully. Jane, do hope all's improving now.
Alas, I'm with Carvivlie and although I appreciate Roberto is not exactly the ideal galan, I may be just one of those hopeless second-chance, third-chance kind of people. To me, Roberto is representative of so many, many, many who were born into very difficult circumstances and then have to make one desperate leap after the next to try to get past it. Usually, to no avail. The nation's jails are filled with this sad situation. If I had to walk a mile in his shoes, would I fare better? Maybe? Abandoned in an orphanage as a child? Never knowing his own mom or dad? That's pretty rough beginnings. Looking back over the narrative of this tale, I can see how circumstances did, many times, prevent him from coming clean. Alcia's swerves and turns on her way to the marital altar and success played a part in this. His devotion to his son led him to an absurd marriage---- recommended by no less than the orphanage director and his own lawyer at the time ...and put him even further in the throes of the user-con man Augusto, with all the consequences that has wrought! (And still will). Roberto never committed fraud. He was framed. By the rotten Sheilah, no less, whose slurs and slander Alicia has now swallowed whole.

So yes, he lied about being a journalist to get into Don Augusto's swank party in the first place. He's hardly the first person to fib about job credentials. Many get away with it...and flourish! Besides, he actually functioned okay in the job. I know this may not be popular, but I find the character understandable and even loveable alot of the time. As for Gumaro, he's one to talk about "coming clean"! When will Gumaro tell Roberto about his tete-a-tete with Roberto's wife, for Heaven's sake?

Alicia's angst is understandable, sort of, since her radar for nonsense is at an all-time low most of the time. But something tells me she's going to sincerely regret the ugliness of what she said to Roberto in this episode, and offering up the sacrifices her parents were able to make for her success (a long, long time coming) as if they were her own.

Roberto's saving grace may be the outcome of his work with the police guy. What if in the process he saves his son just in the nick of time, puts a really bad guy behind bars... (along with the evil Sheilah) and emerges a hero?

Things are definitely heating up with the onset of "ultimas semanas".

So grateful for this site, the chance to have exchanges like this, and most of all the great re-cappers.

Loving the discussion. Just got on the airplane just a day and a half late. Thanks y'all!

Sorry that you got stuck in the airport Jane. No fun there.

Thank you Jarifa. Did you have any of Monday thrown in or was that all from last night?

I want to join the mob. Down with Nestor and Chuchette. Light the torches. Enough from these two.

Carvivlie---I'm with you. 3:49PM

I want to see big arrogant Augusto brought down. It can't come soon enough. I wonder when that pill box will resurface?

must see tv.
the gringo.

Thanks, Jarifa. Great recap.

Jane, sorry you're snowed in. We were suppose to get 1-3 inches in the DC area but it's been mostly a no-show.

I like seeing Roberto beg Alicia and looking so pained. He deserves this. I think Arath is doing a good job.

No redemption whatsoever for Sandra for cruelty to a child. Bea tried to soothe Daphne, but "it's about your health" was the best she could do? Bea, you shunned your child in the past due to her health, really? Hoping Daphne gets more motherly comfort than this.

Gringo, this was all from last night, Monday night. If you are referring to Friday night' s recap, Friday night's recap header was posted back on Thursday so it was not in the usual rotation spot on the blog but it is there with the Thursday recaps.

Yes, gringo, light the torches!
