TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#2): ¿Quién es Quién?, Eva la Trailera, La Querida del Centauro & Fatmagúl : Week of February 15, 2016
Labels: centauro, eva-la-t, fatmagul, quien, telemundo
Since Novelera isn't able to do a recap tonight, I will put something up soon. It won't be a real recap, but simply a list of things that happened. I hope it will serve as a jumping off point for talking about the episode.
Here are some of the major events that happened in tonight's episode. It's more a listing than a recap, but....
Sofia manages to avoid being hit by the car El Chivo is driving. Neighbors rush out in response to her cries for help, so Andy and El Chivo have to leave without killing her. Mission unaccomplished.
Betty comes to see Marlene. The two perras find they have an enemy in common--Eva--and thus begins their not-so-beautiful friendship. As Betty says later to Marisol, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Marlene slaps Andy upon learning that he and El Chivo have once again bungled a killing. Marlene has to come up with another plan.
Pancho plays golf with Robert Monteverde, who then pitches his real estate deal. Bobby is also present, and he looks as if he's accidentally swallowed some golf balls. Pancho asks some questions, then agrees to invest. "As a sign of good will," he gives Robert a check for part of the amount, with the rest coming when they sign the contract.
Marlene comes to see Eva, ostensibly to help her feel better. Sofia calls twice, and each time Marlene tells Eva not to answer. Marlene explains that Eva shouldn't expose herself to all Sofia's crazy unhappiness right now. Sofia leaves a message about Marlene being responsible for Carmen's death, but Eva doesn't listen to the message. Then Pablo calls, and Eva is so upset that she takes her cell phone and a small dagger she had gotten in Spain at a happier time and throws both of these things out into the bushes. Marlene soon leaves and goes to retrieve the dagger. Uh oh.
Marlene then goes to see Javier. She tells him he can have his job back if he does her a small favor: call Eva and arrange to meet with her at the office at 10 pm so he can give her some of the information she's been seeking about possible fraud at Mon-Sol. He's reluctant to do this, but he gives in. Eva is suspicious, but not suspicious enough.
Marlene then gets Armando to call Sofia, sound sympathetic, and arrange to meet her at his office at 9 pm.
Pablo and JJ learn that Marlene's ex-husband took full responsibility for the shady real estate company that he, Marlene, and Andy used for laundering money. The husband is still in prison and has never been visited by Marlene. Pablo and JJ think he may have some interesting things to say about his ex-wife, and they decide to go see him.
Cinthia tells Robert that she finds it strange that Pancho and Soraya take so much interest in Bobby. Something doesn't smell right, she says.
Marlene takes Adriana shopping and expresses support for Adriana's plans to go to New York and to be with Andy.
Armando arrives at Mon-Sol. After he's out of sight of the guard, he opens the trunk and out pop El Chivo and Andy, dressed all in black. Soon after this, Armando leaves, making sure he is seen leaving. He then goes to a bar to play cards with some of his employees (and establish an alibi for his whereabouts).
Sofia arrives. Evencio, drunk, sees her and lets her in. Sofia goes into the dark, deserted office building looking for Armando. She finds El Chivo instead. He stabs her multiple times in the stomach with Eva's dagger, which he then leaves in a place where it can be found.
Eva arrives at Mon-Sol. Evencio is asleep and drunk. Eva wakes him. He tells her that Sofia is here to see Armando. Eva goes off to find Sofia. She does find her, lying on the floor, covered in blood, and probably dead. Eva cradles Sofia in her arms as the episode ends.
wow, Juanita, this was great!
I'm glad you put in that Marlene's husband is in prison as I misinterpreted that last night, thinking he committed suicide, wow, will that surprise Armando that she is still married, probably not, he is so in over his head.
I liked how cool Betty was with Marlene, dropping down the file of her criminal history, but then she went back to this unconditional hate thing she does, go away.
I'll miss Sophia, (loved the actress Michelle Vargas) why oh why didn't she shout Marlene to everyone, only to Armando whom she trusted, scumbag, and a message on Eva's phone, (isn't that a current events thingy, "Apple is fiercely opposing a court order to unlock the iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino shooters").
I find it hard they could pin this murder on Eva but I would never want to be judged by a novela court.
maybe that slap Marlene gave Andy will wake him up, he is being part of a murder, while she is shopping her way into an alibi, doubt it, love it when the bad guys bungle everything, good thing Chivo tells everyone what a professional he is because we would never know it.
don't know what Pancho's plan is but it sounded like he put down half on the investment, perfect description of Bobby (or now Beto since Soraya doesn't like bobby) "Bobby looks as if he's accidentally swallowed some golf balls."
I can actually see some good in Adriana, although she hides it very well.
Evencio the drunk, will he get it, will anyone believe him?
and no longer any evidence of the bottle Armando gave him.
and Pablo, what an interesting character.
"Bobby...looks as if he's accidentally swallowed some golf balls." ROTF LMHO
Pancho knowingly gives Robert money? What's he going to try to reel him in somehow? All the while Robert thinks he's reeling in Pancho.
I'll miss Michelle Vargas too. I thought she played that conflicted character well. This show's barely off the ground and we have two major murders already.
And the slap count continues to rise (although I've lost track). In my entire life, I don't believe I've ever had occasion to slap anybody, except perhaps in my sandbox years. Many times I've wanted to, but it seemed like an irreparable breach. Yet these folks do it all the time!
What a thorough setup masterminded by the machiavellian Marlene. I think they hired Erika de la Rosa for that smug pout. She really does lipstick well, and I've almost completely got Felicia out of my mind.
Juanita- When you get the chance, can you go back and add the Fatmagul label to this post: TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#2): Celia, Eva La Trailera, La Querida del Centauro, ¿Quién es Quién?, and Fatmagul: Week of February 8, 2016
I tried looking up the last set of recaps by the label and could find it, then realized because it wasn't labeled. Thanks in advance!
I don't know where else to put this but I was so excited to see that Laura Flores, as Ines in Quien es Quien, wears the Silver Cross she left Nicolas Nunez when she "abandoned" him at the church and he later gave to Reina. I love these little touches.
In order to get us back on track with the Turkish episodes, Telemundo combined 1 ½ episodes for this episode. I did some searching online and watched the full episodes in ffwd to get some of the scenes that were cut.
Part 1: When we last left our heroine many, many days ago, she was scared witless, running for her life from a homeless, mentally-challenged man she happened upon while walking through the woods. He’s asking her for food, as he runs after her, but Fatmagul is mentally in another place and time and can’t tell the difference between this begging vagrant following her, and the night she was chased down by four men and raped. She falls at one point and skins her knee. Kerim, coming back to the hotel with the owner, hears her blood curdling screams for help and jumps into action, pummeling the poor homeless man. The hotel owner drags Kerim off the man and tells them that he is harmless. He’s a local vagrant, whom the all give food and money. Kerim quickly apologizes, and tries to tend to Fatmagul. But she is still unable to calm down and stop weeping. She rocks back and forth and doesn’t allow Kerim to touch her—regressing back for a moment to the wounded and scared Fatmagul we saw after the rape. A bit later in the car, she has calmed down but doesn’t feel any better. She tells Kerim, “I felt like how I felt that night, and I couldn’t get it out of my mind.” They drive all the way back to Istanbul in silence.
Mukaddes is the only one home when they arrive, and of course she wants to get all in their business about where they were and what they were doing. She sees Fatma’s still bleeding knee and feigns concern. Then when she’s alone with Fatma, she crudely implies that the bloody knee happened during rough sex. (WTF?!) Kerim gets ready to go to work, but urges Fatma to stay home and rest. Then he finds just the right way to bring a smile back to her face—he encourages her to make an appointment to talk to the therapist, ASAP, and also asks her to make an appointment for him too. He wants them to work through both of their issues, TOGETHER. This makes Fatma happy and she agrees to make the appointments.
Outside, Deniz is scoping out the house. She had already bamboozled Mumtaz into taking her to the restaurant earlier (cut scene), where she bought some cake, and for a moment thought that Rahmi was Kerim. She overhears Meryem speaking on the phone with Fatma and learns that Fatma and Kerim are at home. She convinces Mumtaz that she just wants to see the house, but as soon as Kerim exits, she jumps out of the car. She pretends to be in need of directions, but she can’t stop staring at Kerim in a way that makes him uncomfortable. Fatma and Mukaddes notice from the balcony, and Mukaddes quickly deduces that she is Kerim’s sister (no one had let her spill the juicy details about Deniz’s call). Kerim is just about to brush off the weird stranger and get in the car, when Deniz, with pleading eyes says, “Brother? It’s me, Deniz.” Fatma joins them on the street, but Kerim is still staring at Deniz in total shock. Deniz continues, “My father always told me about you and I wanted to meet you. Please don’t reject me. I have nothing to do with what happened with Papa.”
Deniz gets invited inside for coffee, and Mukaddes is in heaven being able to be all up in the business. Kerim is clearly trying to keep up his emotional walls (while fighting what looks to be a bad bug). Deniz’s happiness and enthusiasm at finally being face to face with her handsome big brother cannot be dampened, however. She chatters on about why she speaks Turkish so well-- her father made her study the language and culture of Turkey so that she never forgot her roots. She did it so that one day when she finally met her brother, she’d be able to communicate with him. She notes how Kerim is so much like their father—all hard and grumpy on the outside, but really a big softie. Fatma tries to suppress a smile, while Kerim scowls.
Deniz then innocently stumbles onto a sensitive topic—she asks how Kerim and Fatma met. Neither can even begin to come up with a lie, so it’s actually a good thing that Mukaddes is there to make up a story about how they met in Ildir, when Fatma used to pass Kerim’s shop each day. They are spared further discomfort when Fahrettin comes to drag his daughter back to the hotel. She ignores his scolding, then makes Kerim promise to call her. She’s signing to Kerim to call her and smiling away as Fahr shoves her into the car, and even Kerim can’t resist smiling.
Resat Yasaran is as happy as a clam, now that he has Mustafa in his pocket. He and Munir spend the episode gloating and calling Mustafa to threaten him into dealing with his women- Fatma (get info and/or silence her), Hacer (make sure she doesn’t change her testimony), and Meltem (keep her from testifying). Munir sends some of his goons to follow Mustafa to make sure he doesn’t betray them.
The younger Yasaran men, Selim and Erdogan, are also happy, since they are free. Erdogan doesn’t even make that much of a fuss about selling his parents’ house, and promises his mom he’ll buy her a bigger one someday soon. He tells his mom he’s in love, and wants to be a better person. The source of his good mood is Doctora Nil. His happiness doesn’t last long, when Nil calls to not only cancel having dinner with him, but to also tell him she never wants to see him again. What she read online was enough to tell her she doesn’t want to get involved. Erdogan begs and says she should hear HIS side of the story, as his mom Hilmiye looks on, but it’s no use. Later at the office, he drinks and complains to Selim about how UNFAIR it all is. (Cry me a frickin’ river!) Then he swears that he won’t let that woman (Nil) leave his side. Selim sees Mustafa enter the office and admits that he’s more scared than ever of Mustafa, now that they know he killed Vural, and thinks he’ll go postal on them. “He has more reasons to hate us, and nothing to lose.” Erdogan doesn’t care about Mustafa’s testimony on their behalf. He thinks it needs to be Fatmagul who tells the world that they didn’t rape her. The crazy look in his bleary eyes shows he’s determined to make her do just that.
Kadir visits Semsi and Leman and tries to convince them to do the right thing and testify to the truth—just as Vural really wanted to do. “Your son owes Fatmagul a debt, and I want you to pay that debt.” He tells them how Vural actually begged Kerim to kill him, and tells them their alibi for the night of the rape has been blown out of the water. Semsi angrily runs him off, but Leman is obviously moved to learn that Vural begged to be killed because he couldn’t take the guilt.
Kerim didn’t last long at work. He’s sneezing, coughing, shaking with chills, and burning with fever. The whole family hovers and fusses as he shivers on his couch/bed in his bedroom/Kadir’s office. They all decide he needs a much warmer and comfortable room, and move him to Meryem’s room upstairs—she’ll stay downstairs. Mukaddes makes side comments about Meryem just trying to get closer to Kadir’s bedroom. Meryem rolls her eyes. Eventually, Kerim gets so bad that the doctor is called, and an IV and meds are administered. He immediately starts to get better.
In the early morning, a very worried Fatma goes to look in on him. She looks at her peacefully sleeping husband, and remembers some of his recent declarations of love and devotion to her, ending with his question in the cabin the night before—“Do you love me?” She answers out loud once again, “I love you. Yes, I love you.” This time, Kerim hears. “Is it true, or is it the fever?” He’s smiling from ear to ear. Fatma doesn’t say it again, and instead fusses at him to go back to sleep and goes back to her own room. But the words have been said and heard, and the happy results are instantaneous. These three words are better medicine for Kerim than anything the doctor prescribed. Fatma leans against her door, and goes out to her balcony to try to cool the flush in her cheeks—surprised by her own boldness, and the intensity of her feelings for Kerrim that she has only just admitted to herself.
The next morning, Kerim wakes with a spring in his step and joins the family for breakfast. Fatma takes extra time to do her hair, and smiles at just the sound of Kerim’s voice outside her door. During breakfast, they try to catch some moments alone, and can’t take their eyes off each other. He retrieves the sweater she made for him, to wear that day, and calls it special. Then when she asks what he’d like from the restaurant, he asks her to make him a cake (since he loved the one she made for their anniversary) and calls her an amazing cook. More flirting and blushing, that the family notices. They all leave for the bakery, entrusting Kerim’s care to Kadir. Once alone, Kerim reminds Kadir how he (Kadir) once told him that one day Fatma would tell him that she loves him. Well, it happened last night! Kadir doesn’t even bat an eye, and tells Kerim, “Duh! That’s been, like, obvious, for like, forever!” (OK. He didn’t sound like a Valley Girl, but the sentiment was the same.) Later that morning, Kerim calls Fatma (who’s totally spacey as she thinks about Kerim all morning). He wants them to go out together later, alone, to really talk. He asks her when she realized she loves him, then decides to wait for the answer until they have their talk. Then he asks her to say it again. Mukaddes is breathing down her neck, so Fatma quickly, but happily, whispers “I love you” into the phone and hangs up. Kerim falls asleep with a smile on his face.
In her hotel room, Asu/Hacer is getting an update from Sami about the search for a house for her. His cell phone rings. His taxi dispatcher says there’s someone there who wants to speak with him. It’s Mustafa! (He earlier used Hacer’s pregnancy results to call her doctor and find out her next appointment.) Sami pretends that he is not with Hacer, and had no idea she had left Mustafa. Mustafa doesn’t believe him, and wants Sami to pass on the message that he has no problem with Hacer (code for, he won’t hurt her), she’s the mother of his child, and he loves her. Sami is shocked that Hacer is pregnant. Hacer is worried that Mustafa knows she’s pregnant. She tells Sami that Mustafa will kill her if she goes back to him. She refuses to tell Sami what it’s all about, and tells him not to get involved. As she walks Sami out of her room, she overhears Fahr arguing with Deniz, who just overheard him speaking to the Gray Mafia about the legal problems between Kerim and Fatmagul and the Yasaran (Fahr is determined to protect them). Deniz wants to know what’s going on, but Fahr refuses to tell her.
Hacer is impactada to realize she’s right next door to Kerim’s father. She decides to take action, and begins to write a letter. She slyly leaves it at the front desk with Fahr’s room number on it. Later she checks out, panics a bit when she sees Fahr in the lobby, and passes out. Fahr catches her, and helps to revive her. She refuses medical attention and takes off in a taxi. Mumtaz brings Fahr his jacket and the letter that was left under his door, and they all head off to dinner in the town car. Fahr opens the letter while in the car, and he and Deniz read it, “They (the Yasaran) are planning something big…Take precautions…Watch out for Mustafa…”
Mustafa, meanwhile, has gone to the restaurant in the guise of an ally. Fatma and Meryem are NOT happy to see him, and keep working. Mukaddes and Rahmi welcome him and sit down for tea. Then they begin to do exactly what he wanted—spill all they know about the case Kadir is building. They mention the proof of Semsi and Leman being out of the country. Fatma has enough and tells Mustafa to beat it. He can’t just come here whenever he wants. Mustafa leaves with his tail between his legs. (Cut scene..) He heads to the lost passports desk at the police station, and learns that it will take weeks for him to be issued a new one. As he’s leaving, his fisherman friend calls and tells him his father had a heart attack and is in the hospital, but he does NOT want Mustafa to come see him. By the time he gets outside, Mustafa is in a sh*tty mood, so when Munir’s two goons approach him to hound him, he beats the crap out of BOTH of them, and drives away.
(Cut scene…) After her fainting spell, Hacer goes to see her doctor to get seen right away. The receptionist lets her know he husband called to confirm her next appointment. Hacer realizes Mustafa is getting closer to finding her. She calls Sami from a pay phone and tells him she’s disappearing for a while. He should not call her or try to find her. Mustafa and others will be watching him to try to get to her.
Kadir and Omer are great guys, and outstanding lawyers, but lousy movers. They are making all kinds of noise and bumping things and they turn the downstairs formal dining room (which no one uses) into an office, so that a proper bedroom can be made for Meryem downstairs. Their noise wakes Kerim from his nap, so he overhears when Fahr calls to tell Kadir and Omer about the letter. Kerim insists on going with them to speak to Fahr in the hotel. At the hotel, they scan the security tapes and see when Hacer slyly left the letter at the front desk for Fahr. They quickly recognize her, and Fahr recognizes her as the woman who fainted earlier. They go to her room to see if there are any clues, but she checked out and the room has been cleaned. They wonder if this is all a ruse, a plan between her and Mustafa, a plan of the Yasaran?? Was she staying there purposely to approach Fahr??
They have more questions than answers, and are in the hallway trying to work this out when Deniz pops out of the elevator. To keep her in the dark, and to get irrational Kerim off their hands, the Gray Mafia (plus Kadir and Omer) send Kerim and Deniz off to the house together. Kerim has no choice, but eventually he warms up and opens up as he and Deniz drive home (cut scenes). He suggests they go to the wharf to buy fresh fish (since she loves it) for dinner and grill out that evening. They call Fatma from the wharf, just as she’s walking the last few blocks to the house, with a yummy looking cake in hand. She decides to stop to get a few things for the fish bbq, which delays her getting home, and makes the audience happy because…
Drunk and angry Erdogan has been stalking the house, parked in his car. He finally decides to break into the house-- he heads upstairs and finds Fatma’s room. He assumes, from looking in the closet, that it’s Fatma’s and Kerim’s room. He says to himself, “So this is where you make love.” (gross!) He then goes downstairs and lies in wait for Fatmagul in the walk-out basement. Luckily, Rahmi, and a gaggle of little boys from Murat’s class, arrive before Fatma. The boys set themselves up to play right in front of the basement door, blocking Erdogan’s exit. He’s trapped! His cell phone rings, and the little boys think it’s a ghost. He quietly calls Dr. Nil back. Unbeknownst to him (in a cut scene), Hilmiye had called Nil and begged her to give her son a chance. She vouches for what a good person Erdogan is. Periham overhears this conversation and lights into Hilmiye about repeating the mistake they made with Meltem-- pulling an innocent young woman into this mess, with lies and deception. Hilmiye doesn’t care! She just wants her baby to be happy. Nil tells Erdogan that she will give him chance—dinner, tonight, at 8. The hours tick by, the kids are replaced by the bbq grill and Kerim, in front of the basement door. He texts Nil to say he’s stuck in traffic, and sweats it out.
The family is happy in Deniz’s company. And although Kerim keeps harping on how “communicative” she is, he’s enjoying having her there too. Once they have a moment alone at the grill, Kerim tells Fatma about the letter from Hacer. Meryem joins them, and Fatma mentions how odd it all is, and about Mustafa coming to the restaurant that day. Kerim barely has time to flip out about this, when the Gray Mafia shows up and tells them Erdogan’s car is parked outside. He’s nearby! Erdogan freezes.
-End of episode.
What great comments, deb and LXV!
Deb, I enjoyed your observation "good thing Chivo tells everyone what a professional he is because we would never know it." How true!!
Yes, I think Pancho did give Robert a check for half the money, but I thought that I had misunderstood. Why in the world would he give him so much, knowing he's likely to lose it? (LXVI see you wondered the same thing. I like your idea that perhaps Pancho is trying to set Robert up in some way. I hope you're right, and I hope he succeeds!)
Deb, I think the current controversy about Apple and unlocking iPhones is a bit different from what we're seeing in this novela, unless Eva has encrypted the messages she receives. The current controversy involves the government's request that Apple develop a way to unencrypt the messages on the San Bernadino terrorist's phone. I'm assuming/hoping that Eva hasn't done anything to prevent the messages from being accessed, though of course they can't be accessed if no one knows that the cell phone is lying in the bushes. I wonder how many episodes it will take before the phone is discovered...and by whom? [dramatic music is heard in the background...]
I agree that the writers are doing a good job of subtly suggesting a good side to Adriana the Atrocious Adolescent. I think it's likely that side will win out in the end.
And yes, LXV, Marlene really is an evil genius. I loved the scene in Armando's room where she was surrounded by the three men. I kept thinking of her as the lion tamer in total control of the beasts.
Juanita, that WAS a recap. Thanks!
I'm losing interest in the novela. I was enthusiastic mostly because of Edith González.
They've written Armando as mentally ill or something. Seems like a waste of Jorge's talent. He tries to win Eva back and when she rejects him, he goes right to a plan to get her locked up for murder. If they do lock up Eva, I'm gone.
I do like the Pancho/Soraya/Bobby trio. I liked the Bobby actor in En Otra Piel and he's cute in this one, now that he's dropped some of the entitled behavior.
Thanks very much, Novelera, for your kind remarks about the "recap." You and deb have set high standards for recaps, and frankly I don't think what I put up yesterday comes close. But that doesn't mean I'm not happy that people thought it was OK. :-)
I very strongly hope you won't really give up on the novela if Eva gets locked up. Putting innocent people in jail seems almost a telenovela requirement. Not including it is like forbidding people to say "¡No puede ser!" I suspect that Eva will be arrested and will probably find herself behind bars, but not for long. If that happens, please please please don't leave us!!
Romy
Romy- You and me both with the withdrawal! And luckily, since there were no shows on Uni last night, I had time to search the web for the complete episodes. I hate when scenes are cut, although they did a good job keeping it pretty coherent.
Both Kerim and Fatma were adorable after she said I love you. He positively lit up. Fever? What fever? Virus? What virus?
I couldn't believe how far Mukaddes went with the crudeness yesterday. She and creepy Erdogan should be locked up in a room so they can be disgusting together.
Vivi...you put so much time into this recap...hats off to you.
I get Deniz is the ideal person to help bridge the relationship between Kerim and his dad...but I find her pushy and annoying. Maybe the nice version of Muka...but still she was out of bounds for barging in on them like that. I know she doesn't know the history but she's got to have a clue that there is some resentment on Kerim's part that he dad hasn't been there all those years. She should give Kerim and space and time to deal with her on his terms.
Good to hear Kerim say he wants to go to therapy. He needs it...he had a though childhood too and he needs to deal with his role in what happened to Fatma. They actually need to deal with that together. Finally that's about to happen.
In this epi, Muka was her usual annoying and intrusive self. So glad Kerim and Fatma ignored her request to listen to her news. Earlier in this series he showed expressions of disgust and disbelief toward her and her many inappropriate remarks. And both he and Ebe know how manipulative she is. Wish he would have put her in her place long time ago so even though they have to live together...she wouldn't mess with them so much. Muka encouraged Kerim to control Fatma early on...but she's the one that needs to be put in her place. Also, I think Muka is a little frustrated and secretly has the hots for Kerim....that's another reason why she's so concerned about F&K's love life.
Selim is such a wus and is so scared of MEstafa as he should be....but Erdogan is getting scary now. He is declaring war for sure. The doctor tried to do the smart thing and stay away from Ero but unfortunately, his mom got involved. I know you want your son to be happy but he is a criminal who's made a mistake and doesn't deserve a happy ending at this point. It's one thing for the Dr. to wonder into this mess on her own but mom was wrong to drag the Dr into this saga as if her son was totally innocent. Again, disappointed in her as a woman and mother.
Fatma is getting braver....she was able to tell a sleeping Kerim that she loves him but still not ready for any real intimacy, physical or otherwise....she tried to run from the room when Ebe took off his shirt. Good thing Kerim heard her and understood it per his love language. More and more progress for these two.

sofía's death scene was very scary. And then the big flashlight just happens to go out when Eva is approaching Sofía's body. Please! And of course Eva gets Sofía's blood on her when she tries to revive her. Pancho does tell Soraya that he's trying to entrap Robert and reveal(apparently) what kind of scam he's running. I thought he was certainly right about the game of golf. :) He is also a manufactured food king--Pancho Pan and chorizos. I noticed that Fabiola's symptoms are improving--the result of the very good private school that Eva founded?Armando and Marlene very cleverly give themselves ironclad alibis.
I can't compare Deniz to Mukaddes at all. Mukaddes is vile, filled with hate and envy, and wants to harm people. Deniz is bubbling over with love, happiness, and excitement at FINALLY getting to meet the brother she has heard about her whole life. She wasn't pushing Kerim to forgive or have a relationship with their father. She wanted him to give her, his sister, a chance. Plus, she's a teen, so that explains the impulsiveness.
Ok...I questioned myself as I made the comparison between Deniz and Mukka...and knew I was stretching it....Mukka is vile and lewd...but I was thinking about the pushines. I'm not one for any level of pushiness and overstepping bounds. I get Deniz is a teen and impulsive but I still don't like her barging into their lives the way she did. I guess her pushiness is more acceptable because she doesn't have any mal intent but it would be too much for me....teen or no teen.
Yes...Erdo is even more creepy and scary. I'm sure viewerville is so happy that he got locked in the basement....but I was hoping someone saw him as he ran. But...he did leave traces of DNA on the floor but the folks in the house won't know to look for that. How dare him to think he can just go to Fatma and tell her to take back her statement and drop the lawsuit...it's so much bigger than him. If he approaches her in a violent way...he just digs a bigger hole for himself and asking nicely isn't going to get him anywhere either. I think this thought about talking to her is just plain stupid...especially for him. Early on his father told the boys to stay away from F&K and he's done every thing but that.

I'll put up something tonight, probably just the high points. I've got a Warriors basketball game to watch!
Muchas gracias, SpanProf, for your supportive comments about the sort-of-recap. And I agree with you about the contrived nature of Eva's actions. It made sense (at least to those of us whose first response to events is emotional) for her to angrily toss the annoying cell phone out into the bushes. But why the dagger? Yes, well, we all know why--so she can be framed for Eva's murder--but her including the dagger does seem contrived.
To be honest, though, I find many telenovela cliches and improbabilities kind of endearing. I'm an opera fan, and I feel similarly about some opera plots.
Nett- It really was funny how quickly Fatma bolted from the room when Meryem took off Kerim's shirt. Yeah, they still have a ways to go before they get beyond hand holding. :)
The wardrobe person in charge of Adriana’s clothes must hate the young actress. That sweater she’s worn for two episodes is an abomination.
The Palacios are definitely sociopaths. Andy calls his vile sister to chortle that Chivo left Sofía as full of holes as a colander, grinning as he says this.
I have to say, after quite a few episodes, that whoever makes up Erika de la Rosa has made her look almost like an albino in this show. She’s the whitest person I’ve ever seen.
At first I think Armando’s “part” rules him. He feels bad about Sofía for a split second and then appears ready to jump Marlene’s bones. But it turns out he couldn’t perform.
Evencio does Eva no favors, spilling the whole story about Sofía and Armando to the cops.
One good thing happened. Adriana is over hating her mother and completely on her side.
Pablo and Jota Jota have gone to the prison to see Reynaldo Santa Cruz.
Marlacula is always one step ahead. She shows up to tell Javier to deny he ever asked Eva to meet him. [Marlene has Eva’s phone. But wouldn’t a defense attorney who’s not in a telenovela be able to subpoena records of calls from Eva’s cellular provider?]
I get a kick out of Soraya’s odd expressions. Tonight she called Pancho Panchiris. And she calls Eva Evis frequently. Speaking of Soraya, she’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s nice to see a full-figured woman who is attractive and adored by her handsome husband!
Marlene comes to tell Betty that Eva murdered someone last night. After she leaves Betty jumps for joy. So Betty is dumber than we thought she was. She isn’t the tiniest bit suspicious of Marlene knowing about the murder and Eva’s being accused before anyone else knows about it.
Reynaldo Santa Cruz has lots to tell Pablo in the prison visit. First he asks him if he’s another of Marlene Palacios’ victims: ¿Lo embaucó usted también? (So, she conned you also?) He goes on to compare her to a boa constrictor. He says she was a young and beautiful debutante. He was a successful lawyer and heir to a huge fortune. He left his lifelong sweetheart for Marlene. She involved herself in every aspect of his life, becoming a partner in his business dealings and then took everything. [Sounds like this is what awaits Armando if Eva doesn’t protect the business.]
After Pablo leaves the prison an evil looking guard calls Andy and reports that he visited Reynaldo. Andy is shaken. He doesn’t have his sister’s nerves of steel. He tells Chivo, who says he’ll kill Pablo for free. Earlier on Marlene paid Chivo for killing Sofía. [Where does she get all the money for paying him?]
Eva is allowed to go home. Soraya’s chauffeur tells her about Sofía being killed and that Eve is in trouble. Soroya rushes over to see Eva. Marlacula comes in to express fake sympathy. Soraya gets chills whenever Marlene enters a room. Soraya comforts Eva, looking directly at Marlene. She says that the law has a long arm, but lies have short legs. Still looking at Marlene, Soraya says it’s as if someone had prepared the whole thing to frame Eva.
When Javier finds out that the purpose of his getting Eva to Mon-Sol at 10:00 was killing Sofía and having Eva accused, he starts to fall apart. Luckily for Marlene, Low-Rent Lady Macbeth consoles him, calling him piojito and rolling her eyes at Viewerville over his shoulder.
Pancho’s plot is revealed. He has given Robert Monteverde a check, but has then stopped payment on it. When Robert comes to upbraid him, Pancho comes out with a file, calling Robert a thief. Bobby doesn't look too happy. I DO hope this doesn't backfire on Pancho and Soraya.
When the cops interview Armando he does his best to sink Eva, telling them about the affair with Sofía and that Eva was jealous. He also says that the staff at Mon-Sol could confirm that Eva is violent.
The cops come to arrest Eva. Fabiola has a complete freak-out, and Adriana isn’t doing much better. They insist on putting las esposas on Eva. (I’ve always wondered why handcuffs are called wives in Spanish!)
They leave us with a cliffhanger as Chivo fires a rifle at Pablo as he leaves the house to try to see Eva. [So Chivo is practically in the middle of Pablo’s yard; why does he need a scope to shoot him?]
wow, such a nice recap novelera, for such a sad story.
yep, Marlene could be in one of those day-of-the-dead parades and not even need a costume.
oh but Marlene gave boy Andy definite instructions to NOT kill Pablo because that would put a kink in her plan and lead it all back to them, (but I can see Pablo totally laid up while Betty personally escorts Eva to her cell).
loving the way Soraya chills up around Marlene, what a neat lady, who could not love her.
ok, I asked the great internet your question, "why are handcuffs called wives in Spanish",
1) the question is wrong, "it should be why are wives called handcuffs in Spanish".
2) [esposas is the feminine plural of esposo, which comes from the Latin sponsus (same root word for “spouse”), which comes from the Latin spondere, which means “to bind”]
novelera- are you watching this, time flies, I'm hooked on the Leonardo/Paloma connection.
All I could say after seeing this episode was WOW!, and Vivi ditto for ur fab recap. Thanks for all of the detail, cut scenes and snark. I loved and enjoyed every minute of it.
Nett ur a hoot, Muka having the hots for Kerim was funny, but knowing this disgusting wench anything is possible. I throughly enjoyed Ergo sweating in that basement and could have smacked that driver for giving him the alibi that his car had been stolen. Love the way these guys lives continue to unravel and they turn slowly, slowly in the wind. Fatma being able to verbally express and accept her love for Kerim was a high point.
Thanks, Brenda. Looks like from comments that Turdogan gets off the hook in Friday's episode. Not surprising. I haven't watched yet. Going to get on the treadmill, have some breaky, and then I'll watch and recap. It will be up later today.
I think Mukaddes has the hots for any man who seems reasonable attractive or wealthy. She's doing the same kind of nasty insinuations with Meryem and Kadir.
Thanks so much, novelera, for another excellent recap. I loved your referring to Elsa as "Low-Rent Lady Macbeth"! And I really appreciate your including a good deal of detail about the conversation between Pablo and Reynaldo Santa Cruz. It helped me catch a fair amount that I missed.
I agree with you about Soraya. She's gorgeous AND full-figured.
And yes, Reynaldo's account of his being taken by Maracula sounds like a foreshadowing of what could happen to Armando. Armando doesn't know much about Maracula's past, right?
Yes, the novela left us hanging last night. It's hard to imagine that Chivo could miss. Clearly he won't succeed in killing Pablo, but he might wound him. If that happens, I wonder whether that will prompt Betty to think again about alligning herself with Maracula.
One thing puzzles me: you say that Marlene has Eva's cell phone and that a defense attorney not working for Telemundo could summon Eva's phone's records. But does Marlene have Eva's cell phone? I thought Marlene only retrieved the dagger, while the camera focused on something that looked like the phone still lying in the bushes. Also, I'm under the impression that Javier called her on her land line, not her cell. I've always wondered why Marlene didn't retrieve the cell phone as well when she took the dagger. Am I wrong? (Such things have been known to happen :-) ).
I'm also a little mystified by Pancho's stopping payment on the check. What does he hope to achieve? Just to signal to Robert that he knows Robert is trying to cheat him, to get him to invest in a worthless enterprise?
Deb, I loved your remark about Marlene being able to be in the day-of-the-dead parade without even needing a costume!
And thanks for the origins of the word "esposa." I too had found it odd--no, make that sexist--that the same word was used for wife and handcuffs. And even knowing the origin, I still see it as sexist. :-)
Brenda...think about it. Remember that epi early on when Mukka tried to sneak a peak at Kerim in the shower...she almost got busted by Ebe so she pretended to be checking the floor for paint/dirt or something. And she's preoccupied with Fatma being intimate with him. She's wouldn't mind having him for herself. She'd sell herself real cheap to spend some time with K one on one:>)

Part 1:
Witness Protection, Gray Mafia Style
Fahrettin is one bad mama jama, and manages to track down Asu/Hacer to her hideout with a one-eye hooker. He takes her to a little house in the country, and promises his help and support, and a passport. His people will take care of it. He leaves Mumtaz to watch over her and make sure she’s not plotting with the Yasaran, and tells him to keep hold of the new passport they get her until AFTER she testifies. Mumtaz overhears when Hacer calls Mustafa, who is in Ildir grieving the recent death of his father. She refuses to come back to him or to believe what he says about loving her and wanting the baby. She does not tell him where she is or whom she’s with.
From Trapped in the Basement to Exposed Nationally
Erdogan manages to escape the basement and the police by climbing over the back gate, running down a side street, escaping a Doberman, and hopping into a taxi. The taxi driver gives him the brilliant idea of reporting his car stolen to the police. The police investigating the car in front of Kadir’s house tell the men that it was stolen. They don’t believe it. They KNOW this was Yasaran funny business! But they have to head to the police station to deal with the car theft report and to make their own report of what they believe to be Yasaran harassment. At the station, Kerim can’t control his rage as he is forced to sit face to face with Erdogan, who sticks to his story that his car was stolen. And if Kerim didn’t do it, then “someone” is messing with both of them and trying to cause trouble. A famous singer has been arrested that night for shooting his gun off at a club, so the police station is surrounded by reporters and paparazzi when Kerim with Kadir, and Erdogan with Selim exit and begin to argue. A sharp eyed female journalist recognizes the Yasaran and pays attention, as Kerim threatens to KILL Erdogan (in front of a police station, for cripe’s sake!) and then tries to strangle him! Both Kerim and Erdogan are thrown in jail for the night. Selim takes off and reports to Munir and Resat what Erdogan overheard about Hacer sending a letter to Kerim’s father. They worry about the witnesses Fatma is gathering, MIA Hacer, and MIA Mustafa. They worry some more when their recently retired loyal housekeeper tells them Kadir contacted her to testify. Resat makes sure to butter her up, to KEEP her loyal.
The next morning, that same female reporter sees Fatmagul and Meryem come to the police station to get Kerim. She hears Fatmagul confront Munir and Erdogan as they leave, and say that she is NOT the same scared little girl she used to be, and that she has more people on her side who will testify, like Mukaddes and Meltem. The reporter later calls Meltem, and says that Fatma made a “statement” that Meltem is testifying on her behalf. Meltem doesn’t really confirm this, but she doesn’t deny it either. The reporter and her film crew are right outside Kadir’s house, so when the whole family exits, they spring into action, asking intrusive questions about the rape case—wanting the exclusive story from Fatma. Fatma is hustled to the car, while Meryem, Kadir and Kerim try to shoo the reporter and her crew away. The reporter manages to give Fatma her card and urges her to tell her story, before the Yasaran twist the story and pervert justice.
The Transformation of Fatmagul
The episode sees Fatmagul transform and emerge as a force to be reckoned with. After learning that Erdogan is nearby, Fatmagul falls apart, and can’t stop crying. But by being forced to talk to Deniz (after Mukaddes tells her the dirty details, sending Deniz into sobbing fits) about how she managed to become a stronger person after the rape, and learned to trust Kerim, Fatmagul pulls herself together. She then confronts Munir and Erdogan in front of the police station with no fear the next morning. So when the reporter gives Fatma her card, Fatma is open to the idea of confronting the Yasaran publicly, through the press.
The family has a powwow. Some are against talking to the reporter, like Kerim who feels it will make Fatma’s life harder if everyone knows who she is and what happened. Kadir is on the fence. His main concern is that the judges in the case will be annoyed with them and it will affect their rulings. But, as Meryem points out, in many cases in the past, public opinion/outrage has swayed judges to make sure true justice was served. Fatma’s mind is clearly made up. She wants to help other women who are in the same situation find their voice. She wants to be an example and a help to them. She decides to speak to the reporter!
Most of the end of the episode shows us the effect of the exclusive, tell-all interview, as we see and hear Fatma and Kerim in their joint therapy session. The Yasaran are falling apart; Dr. Nil wants nothing to do with Erdogan; and the major television media, like CNN, have picked up the story. Kerim and Fatma speak to the therapist:
Fatma: Aside from the attorney general, the judge, and you (Doctora), it was first time I could tell a complete stranger about my most profound pain…One feels a great sense of relief…isn’t that right (Kerim)?
K: You’re a brave woman, Fatmagul. The bravest person I know…
F: I think that Mustafa saved me from a greater punishment. Had he not turned his back on me, had he stayed with me, I would have lived a life as if I were paying for a crime. But it was never my fault. The day Mustafa turned his back on me, my destiny changed course. And I thank him for it. I’m strong now. Strong enough to confront those who want to humiliate me and make me suffer.
K: You know, your strength has made me into a man.
Kerim speaks of his shame, which makes him unable to even look Fatma in the eye sometimes. Fatma thinks they will be able to overcome it, but Kerim isn’t sure. He can’t forgive himself, and he can’t forget. And when he thinks about it, his anger at those assholes grows. He wants them to be punished. And he won’t feel better until HE is punished too. The fact that he can’t forget or forgive himself, IS his punishment. Their (his and Fatmagul’s) punishment. The doctor asks them about their relationship. Do they feel they are advancing?
K: That’s a long road that we still have much to travel. We knew it would be from the beginning.
F: We didn’t even know at first if there was a road. At least, I didn’t. At first I thought Kerim was with me only out of guilt, and that ticked me off.
Kerim admits that guilt was a part of it, and he’ll carry that guilt always. But he had seen and fallen her before the incident-- on the staircase, and from that moment knew that she was a girl he could marry. The therapist asks Fatma how she feels.
F: I have two Kerims. The one sitting next to me, and the one in Ildir…My hate of what happened that night doesn’t allow me to accept that Kerim. Because it reminds me of everything that I want to forget… I touch him, because I want to touch him. But then I think of what comes next, and I get scared. Getting married, the wedding, the dress—they’ve all the lost the meaning they used to have for me…What you said Kerim is true (about the long road ahead). I don’t want to separate from you. I want to heal my wounds. I want us to have children. Be patient.
K: I’ll wait. For me, this is a gift. I don’t want to force Fatmagul, but sometimes I feel that I am. I even wanted to leave her. Fatmagul told me that she loves me, and that made me very happy. I know she meant it. And when she says, “I trust you,” it brings me back to life. She is my life.
November 17, Trial Day, finally arrives. The family, including Fahr and Deniz, drive through Izmir to the courthouse. When they arrive, they see hundreds of people, mainly women, along with media, who have gathered in front to cheer on and support Fatmagul. They shout that they stand with Fatma, and chant her name, carrying supporting signs and banners. The family walks through the cheering crowd to the entrance, with Fatma leading the way, gaining more confidence with every step she takes. Meltem is on the steps, and gives Fatma’s hand an encouraging squeeze. Fatma enters the courthouse, and stares down the Yasaran men, ready to take them all on in battle.
-End of episode.
Nett- You are killing me! Both making me laugh and grossing me out with the image of Kerim and Mukaddes in my head. :)
Vivi..you are so detailed with your recaps...how do you find the time. F&K had good dialogue with the therapist. They've come a long way.
This was a good epi...it showed Fatma's growing strength. Nice touch to have the gathering outside the courthouse to show support.
So glad the Dr finally had enuf signs to make her step away from Ergo the Ego. The fact that he still struts around and expects that he should have a charmed life is so irritating. I want to smack some sense and humility into him.
Muka was interesting. She was a definitely uneasy about Fatma telling her story. Surely she doesn't want the world to know her role in escalating the cover up. Count her among the guilty because had she supported Fatma from the beginning instead of going for a fist full of dollars...Fatma would have prevailed in court a long time ago.
Nett
Yep, Mukaddes doesn't want to be painted in the public eye as the soulless, money-hungry traitor that she is. That's why she's so nervous and shifty eyed while they were going into court. I'm really worried about how this trail will turn out though. We have 30 episodes to go! No way the Yasaran are going to jail now.
I was so mad Erdo escaped and was able to get away with being in the house but there are many episodes to go so obstacles have to creep up, pun intended. I love this episode it was so beautifulfrom Rahmi crying when he sees the support of the media to his sister, the therapy scene, Kerim and fatmagul crying and opening up to each other, Meltem holding the hand of Fatma, the woman that showed her support to Fatma when she was in the car, the therapist being there, the little look between Kerim and his dad,the miserable look of Mustapha, and finally Fatmagul in front of the Trashasharans, the shin up high, so proud, so strong, so confident, she's not the little mouse from the village, the little "thing" that Mukaddes sold and the Trashasharans bought, she's a new Fatmagul and she's telling you "what was my fault exactly???" Of course Mukkades telling Deniz the story, too happily of course. I even felt a small twinge of pity for Mustapha.
Romy
I even think TurdOgan peed against the wall in the basement! So gross! I'm so ready for him to get his anvil, but it's too soon. Since he's the worst of the lot of the rapists, I'm guessing he'll be the last to fall.
Fatma's proud strut into the courthouse and challenging look towards the Yasaran, was beautiful to behold. I was so proud of her.
The therapy session was wonderful. Kerim and Fatma covered a lot of ground, but they have a long way to go. I'm so glad that Kerim is in therapy now, because he has a lot of issues (aside from his guilt about the rape) that he needs to confront.
Lots of things to criticize in the plot of this one. I STILL miss Bajo. Now that was a plot that worked! And none of the villains were a TN stereotype; i.e., snobby rich people who get what's coming to them. [Well, maybe Erík's father, but he wasn't a central villain.]
SpanProf, you are SO right about Betty's being unable to grasp that prosecuting Eva would not endear her to Pablo. If this were not a TN, Pablo would go straight to the DA and force Betty to recuse herself. But I doubt we'll be that lucky.
Juanita, thanks for clearing up the cell phone/knife business. I remember Marlene going into the shrubs and taking something. For some reason I remembered the phone and not the knife. I thought she picked up the phone and needed a good recap to tell me she picked up the murder weapon. So probably the cell phone is still lying there.
Maybe they'll go with a coma for Pablo so he can't tell anyone what he now knows about Marlene and Andy. Two comas in one TN would deserve nothing but scorn.
It seems way too soon for Pablo to be able to spill the beans about what he heard regarding Marlene and Andy.
Romy
Thanks vivi! Enjoyed all the details of the therapy session. I like how those scenes give us a peek inside F's (and now K's) mindset. I'm so eager to see the trial and loved watching the lead up to it. I was iffy about the reporter but I'm glad that it's going to fatmaguls favor.
I didn't think I could have any more disgust for edrogan but then that urinating scene, ughhh. Although I'm waiting to see the whole Yasaran clan behind bars, im glad to see how they are suffering the affects of their actions, and we don't have to wait till the end.
And Fahr is a total mama jama (did look that up vivi :] )...a great asset to the F&K team.
Romy, loved that scene of rahmi teary eyed while watching the support for his sister. And that look between Karin and dad, just a few seconds but u can see a shift coming.
Nett, I agree with you on deniz's pushiness. Not a fan of it. But her happy and loving personality will no doubt help smooth the jagged feeling towards his father.
jlk
Thanks, jlk. I too like how we have seen the Yasaran take some real blows and have some real setbacks, long before we come to the end. Let the hits keep coming!
It actually seems like working on bringing the Yasaran down together is bringing Kerim and Fahr together, more so than Deniz. But she will surely be a valuable link between them.
Vivi you said 30 episodes to go. You're talking about the Turkish 1.5 hr each episode right, so that would mean a bit over a month then?
I'm so glad Fatma and Kerim are now in therapy together. They've had communucation issues since he and Fatma didn't meet and marry in an organic way. Kerim is a lot more expressive vocally ans it always bothered him that he never knows what Fatma is thinking since she was pretty shy before the rape and the rape made her more shy; the therapy allows both of them to comfortably speak and know where their thoughts are so they can behave like a really married couple. So, yeah, good for them.
I wouldn't have spoken to the reporter in an exclusive were I in Fatma's shoes; howevern I totally get it on a therapeutic level of speaking publically can be healing, and on a practical level that she who speaks first gets to shape the tale. Fatma speaking first allows her to get the truth out. The Yasaran are thus on the defense.
Anon7:53- Yes, 30 more 2 hour Turkish episodes. Six weeks left.
J- I like how you say the therapy will help them be more like a married couple. Well, a functional married couple. I too don't think I could tell all to a reporter like that either. But it seemed to be exactly what Fatma needed, and they got the jump on the Yasaran.
Novelera, I agree that two comas in one TN would be excessive. If the writers don't listen to us and do put Pablo into a coma, I bet he comes out of it when someone slaps him. Anything to up the absurd slap count!
So...I'm liking this TN because it's not a traditional one. I think someone mentioned that it's meant to be taken as a drama vs a TN...and I can see why. As someone mentioned earlier today...the bad guys are feeling the heat along the way. They are not able to do what ever they want and lie and get their way till the end. This is so realistic. I've always disliked the TN formula of the bad guys controlling things and getting away with stuff until the very end...and along with the finale of a wedding. After about my 3rd TN...I was ready to give up on them but had to hang in there because they have been my regular source to hear Spanish.
So Kerim's dad has let the Y's know not to mess with his kid...if only he could give that message to Muka (note: I'm trying not to say I hate her today :>) Anyway, Muka deserves her just rewards too and I hope she starts receiving hers ....real soon. I really wish they could push her out the house. I hate Kerim's going to jail shackled her to Rommy/Muka even more.
Ergo urinating was just plain nasty. I was not expecting that in a TN....but again, I guess it was realistic. He had been drinking all day and was trapped in the basement....what else could he do. I just hope that can find traces of it and get DNA to prove he was there.
MEstafa and Asu...I can't tell what his intent is. Is trying her back to carry out the Y's orders...or is there a part of him that thinks he wants her back. I say thinks....because he's not over Fatma.
Nett
Nett- Unfortunately, I think Mukaddes will just be even more bound to Fatma, via Rahmi, with the birth of the new baby, in addition to Murat. Too bad that Rahmi loves her so much.
Vivi...nothing wrong with Rhami loving his wife...not opposed to that in general. I just wish he was a stronger person and was on to her. I wish he knew how manipulative she is and how bad she treats Fatma. I'll never forget that earlier epi when Muka pushed, shoved and pulled Fatma's hair. She's bullied Fatma or made snide and ugly remarks about Fatma in front of Rhami...but Rhami doesn't get it. He's bullied by Muka too and scared to loose her. I understand he's suppose to be slow but even Forest Gump could feel when something wasn't right.
Nett
So Kerim's father has nothing to loose...is he sick. I vaguely remember Ebe saying something to this effect when trying to encourage K to rend the letters but I can't be sure. It just dawned on me that this is what he meant by nothing to loose...is he dying?
Nett
Nett- I don't believe Fahr is sick. All he meant is that he/they can't screw up his relationship with his son or any relationships in Turkey, because they don't exist. He's wealthy and powerful, but he's an Australian citizen with no obligations in Turkey. The Yasaran can't touch or harm him that way.
When Meryem mentioned the possibility of Fahr being sick, it was when Kerim was refusing to open the letters. She felt he should open them to be sure.
Vivi..thx...I had the correct understanding of Ebe's comment but when dad stated he had nothing to loose....made me second guess everything.
After finding out what was going on....Deniz's initial reaction to K was interesting but she came around later. Learning something that deep about someone is a lot to take in...now matter who the person is. Despite her youth...I was still annoyed by her insisting on knowing what was going on...especially after Ebe gave her all kinds of hints that it wasn't a delicate situation and should stop asking questions for now. But Muka was all too willing to tell the story. She's so busy and messy.
Nett
Nett is was kind of funny that after she heard the truth, Deniz was all, he's my brother, but why the hell are you with him? He didn't protect you! And she wouldn't look him in the eye or stay alone in the same room as him. She's totally Team Fatma, but she's lost her starry eyed admiration for her big brother now.
Vivi..when Deniz was pushing for the details...I was thinking...be careful what you ask for.
And her reaction was so much more humane and compassionate than Muka's. Kerim is her brother...and yet her instinct was to be concerned about Fatma the victim. Muka...who had more of a history and connection with Fatma...first instinct was to capitalize off it. She never thought of Fatma with any attachment...a victim, a woman, a child or my husband's sister...she just saw dollar signs and sold Fatma cheap. I say cheap because Muka walked away with an envelop of money (until later selling the land).
Nett
I wanted to be sure I was correct in saying that Marlene picked up the dagger that Eva had thrown out into the bushes but that Marlene did not retrieve Eva's cell phone. Fortunately, Telemundo still has Thursday's episode on its web site, so I searched for that scene. I was right [trumpet fanfare here]. Marlene is apparently so focused on finding the dagger that she fails to see the cell phone. The novela's camera, however, does focus on it in the bushes for a second or two. Later, when Javier calls, Eva goes over to what is probably a nightstand by her bed to pick up the phone that rang. At one point in the conversation with Javier, she asks him how he got this number, and he tells her it was Armando's number, and Armando had given it to him years ago.
I'm hoping/expecting that all this will come back to bite Marlene in the end [bad pun not intended but not erased].
Thanks, Juanita, for verifying what happened. So she took the call from Javier on a land line. I guess the big deal about the cell phone out in the bushes is that Pablo can't reach her. I have a land line, and the only calls that show up on my bill are ones that are out of the area, so I don't know if it's possible to prove that she was telling the truth about Javier setting up that meeting at 10 pm.
I'll put up something Monday night. I'm trying to cut down on the time spent recapping by making them shorter.
Engaging and thorough recap.novelera. That was above and beyond just "some high points"!
Adriana's sweater: most definitely an abomination.
Those Palacios seem to have some rather unsavory incestuousness going on. Yuck.
I agree about Soraya; she's so womanly, maternal, wise & funny. I'm sure a lot of Spanx is involved in her choice of couture, but the overall impression is of grace, humor, wisdom & beauty.
Ugh, why oh why did there have to be a rat in Santa Cruz. The good guys can't catch a break (yet).
What do we think about Soraya's chauffer. He seems a bit robotic, but I'm assuming he's a loyal part of the A-team.
I hope Chivo didn't get Jota Jota, if only because I like saying his name. 3 murders would be too many for me at this point. This isn't any narconovela. And I hope don Javier lives to see another day.
Thanks Juanita for straightening that out about the dagger and the cellphone. I, too, remember seeing the cellphone languishing in the shrubbery.
I'm getting frustrated by all the bad events for our star-crossed pair, but I can't say I'm bored. Edith Gonzalez still has my undivided attention, even if she does go to jail. It breaks my heart to think of Fabiola without her strongest ally. That creep of an Armando has no clue how to help his daughter.
Novelera, my land line phone, like yours, lists only long distance calls, so you're probably right about the difficulty in proving that Javier made that call. But if one of the Good Guys finds Eva's cell phone before its innards are destroyed by rain or bugs or whatever, they'll find Sofia's message identifying Carmen's killers. Even that may not be proof, of course, but it does give someone other than Eva a strong motive to kill Sofia.
LXV, I too am getting a bit antsy at how bleak things look (and the likelihood that they'll get bleaker before they get better), but of course that's the standard pattern for most telenovelas. Since this novela seems to be conforming to most of the norms, I don't think there will be any real bummers at the end. (Ironically, it's more innovative novelas like Bajo that can stun us at the end with something like Rodrigo's fate.)
My Fatma peeps all of ur comments and insights are on spot. The last 2 epi's have been Wow. .Fatma's/Kerims therapy sessions were intense, emotional and powerful. Fatma was profoundly impacted by the rape, more than I could imagine. Her statement about the 2 Kerims was telling. In spite of it all she is coming out of the trauma as the victor and a survivor.
I think Rahmi is fully aware of Muka's toxic personality, unfortunately he feels so inept that he accepts this and doesn't feel that he deserves better. Can't wait to see how the writers square this.
Vivi you have outdone yourself again. Thanks for these 2 fab recaps.
