@Nina I wish I had time to watch more than one show, but I agree about Eugenio Siller. I used to think he was just sort of a pretty boy, but he's turned into a really fine comic actor. And those dual rôles must be tough. But from what I can see, he's doing a terrific job. Keep us posted if you watch. I'd love to hear more about the show.

it's hard to take this one seriously because they are just throwing stuff at us, like the star tattoo, it's even odd that Marlene waited 10 years to act, but she sure has Eva digging her own grave, and I hope Armando is enjoying the sex that she permits him to have, because he is throwing away everything he has for it.

and Marlene really crosses the line in what she is doing to Eva's girls.

I wondered why Marlene's husband is in jail but not her, but have you ever noticed that it's always someone else that carries out her plots.

oh and and I went to a local website on jury duty, where they had some video clips and such, and on one a judge was saying that although the opening and closing arguments may be helpful to the jurors, they are not evidence.

on the other hand, ¿Quién es quién? is turning out to be a jewel, I have really been enjoying watching the worlds of these two guys slowly collide, and the story just flies by.

deb, I'm not sure what's been causing the problems you've had posting. Do you click on "Publish Your Comment" only to have the site say something like "Oops, there's been an error, try clearing your cache and try again." (That's probably not exactly what it says, but it is something that has happened to me many times in the past. Usually clearing the cache and trying again did no good. I got to the point where I'd make a copy of the text I was trying to post, and if something went wrong, I'd start all over, but all I'd have to do is paste in the text I'd copied.

Of course, that may not be what's happening in your case. Can you tell me more, either here or privately? I have a junk email account whose email address I'm willing to put online: it's cq9 AT yahoo DOT com. All lower case. If you want to contact me there, I can write back to you privately as well. (I don't mean to sound paranoid, it's just that posting a valued email address online all too often results in lots more spam or, even worse, malware.)

Of course, you're also welcome to explain the problem here without the need to provide an email address. It's possible that other people, too, have had similar difficulties. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to help, but I'm willing to try. Your messages are much too valuable to lose!
 

FATMAGUL: Turkish Episode 54, Thursday 2/25/16
Part 1: We begin where we left, with the sweet and gentle kiss between Kerim and Fatma in front of the bonfire. The spell is broken when the book of poetry slips from Fatma’s hands and to the ground. She quickly gets up, picks up the book, and starts fussing about getting inside to cook dinner and such. Kerim remains on the bench, smiling, still floating on that kiss. Fatma looks a bit panicked and starts busying herself cooking. But she’s so discombobulated that she’s spilling stuff on herself and burns herself when she grabs a hot pot. They eat dinner in awkward silence, which Kerim finally breaks. He tells Fatma that he doesn’t want things to be tense between them, and they can’t ignore the kiss. It happened (and he’s clearly happy about it). He tells Fatma that he would NEVER force her to do something she doesn’t want to do. She tells him she knows, and the tension begins to lessen.

Mukaddes calls, using Meryem’s phone (since she knows they wouldn’t pick up a call from her). Of course she wants to give them the gossip, and find out all about what they are doing. She complains about being tired and achy and needing a “vacation” too, and asks if she and Rahmi can join them in the cabin. Fatma reluctantly agrees, and Kerim’s eyes go wide with panic. Finally, Mukaddes puts Meryem on the phone, and she and Fatma talk about some of the big cake and catering orders they have coming up. Meryem says she can handle it on her own, but Fatma feels bad leaving her in the lurch. Once she’s off the phone, Fatma tells Kerim she thinks they should go back tomorrow, much earlier than they planned, because she feels bad about leaving Meryem on her own, and doesn’t want to miss her upcoming appointment with the therapist. Kerim thinks they should stay as long as they planned. Plus, he has some things he needed to repair in the cabin, like the weak water pump.

That night when they go to bed, Fatma does not lock her door, and they both go to sleep with smiles on their faces remembering the kiss. Unfortunately, Fatma’s dreams betray her inner fears. She is plunged into a nightmare where she is in the bed in the cabin, wearing the wedding dress Kerim bought her. She remains paralyzed in the bed, slowly being enveloped and swallowed by the mattress, as Erdogan and Selim, dressed in black, leer at her and try to paw her. She screams Kerim’s name, but no sound comes out. He is standing over her too, dressed in white, but he looks helplessly at her and does nothing to stop Erdogan and Selim. Suddenly, the light goes on in her bedroom and she wakes with a scream. Kerim had heard her calling out in her dream and comes to comfort her. He tells her it was just a bad dream and goes to get her water. Fatma is still struggling to come back to reality and weeps and cowers in the bed, with the covers drawn up around her.

The next morning, Fatma finds that Kerim has been up since much earlier, and has made all the needed repairs. He tells her that they can leave after breakfast- they’ll call a cab. Fatma thanks him with true gratitude and appreciation for his thoughtfulness. As they leave, they both look around the cabin fondly, and Fatma says they have made some good memories here. Kerim agrees.

 

FATMAGUL, Part 2: Back in Istanbul, Mustafa’s plan to extort the Yasaran has backfired majorly. Yasemina, the Ankara prostitute, is actually collaborating with the Yasaran, and arrived before he did. She saunters in with Erdogan, and we learn that she got a better offer from Erdogan to remain on their side and keep her mouth shut about their plot to destroy Turaner. They all laugh in Mustafa’s face, and smash the USB drive with the recording. The Yasaran remind Mustafa that they have him by the short and curlies, and he better follow their orders. They make veiled threats about his sick mama and pregnant wife. He better not even think about trying to flee. Mustafa goes home and tells Hacer. She tells him that Fahrettin’s people will get them both passports. But she thinks they should travel separately to keep the Yasaran from finding them easily. Mustafa grabs Hacer’s arm and gets rough with her, and tells her that she will NOT go anywhere without him! (Girl, leave!)

The next day, Resat sets up a one on one meeting with Mustafa. He orders Mustafa to tell Meltem and Ender that they had nothing to do with Yasemina and that Turaner had carried on a long-term affair with her. He later complies with this command, and he’s a great liar. Resat’s next orders are about Erdogan. He’s ready to get rid of his erratic nephew and he wants Mustafa’s help laying the full blame of the rape on him. He tells Mustafa that Erdogan was the bad influence on the other guys, particularly his son Selim. He’s the real cause of the rape. He’s the reason Mustafa became a killer. Resat wants Mustafa to keep an eye on Erdogan, and to convince Fatma to only accuse Erdogan of the rape.

Erdogan, meanwhile, is still stalking Dr. Nil. She, unfortunately, is the doctor of Perihan, who is now home recovering. Erdogan reproaches Nil for daring to spend time with a male doctor, who may or may not be a romantic interest. She is flabbergasted by his gall, and reminds him that the two of them never had anything, and never will. Erdogan becomes more determined to make Fatma “tell the truth” (yeah, he’s starting to believe his own lies now). He assigns Yasar to find him a time and place for him to talk to Fatma alone.

At home, Mukaddes continues to be a pain in the butt to Meryem. Kadir is all excited about a law seminar he’s participating in, because many of his friends from law school are attending. He speaks about one friend in particular, Humeyra. Mukaddes starts making insinuations to Meryem at every turn that Kadir has a romantic interest in this friend. She points out how happy Kadir seems, and that he’s come home smelling of perfume. She eventually gets in Meryem’s head, and Meryem catches herself looking at the note and old college photo that Humeyra gifted Kadir, and watching as Humeyra drives Kadir home and kisses his cheek. She becomes a bit colder and distant with poor, clueless Kadir.

Mukaddes, who is sleeping with Murat in Fatma’s bed for some reason, wakes in the morning, wet. They realize that her water broke and her labor is coming fast. Poor Meryem has to deal with overly-loud/attention-seeking Mukaddes, panicky and useless Rahmi and Kadir, and scared and whiney Murat. She jumps into action and delivers the baby like a pro. When the ambulance gets there, both mama and baby girl are right as rain, even though the baby is a 7 ½ month preemie. Mukaddes actually thanks Meryem sincerely as she is rolled away. Once everyone is out of the room, Meryem breaks down in tears from the emotion of bringing life into the world. Kadir watches her and smiles. They call Fatma and Kerim, who are in a cab coming back to Istanbul, and share the news. They are both shocked and excited, and joke about the baby being just like Mukaddes—having no ability to wait. They head to the hospital almost as soon as they get back to the city.
 

FATMAGUL, Part 3: The family is at the hospital, minus Kadir and plus Mehmet, looking at the baby in the incubator, when Kerim and Fatma arrive. Rahmi is crying from the emotion, and Fatma does a little too. None of them can take their eyes off the baby. They visit Mukaddes in her room, and she’s quickly back to her annoying self, basically blaming the STRESS, that Fatma, Kerim and the case caused, for sending her into early labor. They all ignore her indirect insults, and focus on the happiness of the occasion. Murat is sick of everyone calling the baby, baby. They let him have the honors of naming her, and he chooses to name her after the prettiest girl in his class- Elif. They all like it.

Everyone else goes off to get the baby crib and supplies, and Fatma stays in the hospital to care for Mukaddes. Kerim comes by later to bring Fatma food and dessert. They go to look at the baby. Fatma can’t believe how the baby has only just arrived, and already her heart is filled with so much love for her. Kerim agrees, as he stares at Fatma, clearly dreaming of the day they have their own baby. He says goodbye to her, as Mukaddes observes. He tenderly tucks a lock of her hair behind her ear and kisses her on the cheek.

The days pass, and we jump into the middle of Fatma’s session with the therapist. They speak about the days in the cabin, the poem/beer/locked door incident, the dream, and THE KISS. The doctora asks Fatma if she allowed Kerim to kiss her because she felt guilty about hurting his feeling with the locked door. Fatma admits there was some guilt, but that she also wanted it. She admits to feeling fear when Kerim was drinking, because it reminded her of that night. Just the smell of alcohol now makes her ill. But she does feel safe with Kerim.

They speak about the baby, and Fatma lights up. She can’t believe how much love and joy the baby has brought to the house. As she speaks we see a montage of the whole family coming home with Elif, and Fatma taking care of (fussy) Mukaddes and the sweet little baby, and Kerim watching Fatma with the baby, with love in his eyes. She tells the doctor how she is so filled with love for the baby that she doesn’t even mind dealing with Mukaddes. If she feels so deeply about this baby, she wonders how she will feel about her own baby. She speaks about how she felt the same love for Murat when he was born--she was the one who took care of him. But she was also a child at the time, and it’s not the same as how she feels now. She wants to be a mother. And, yes, she would like to have a baby with Kerim someday.

She leaves the session and confirms that the next time Kerim will join her. Kerim, meanwhile, has gone to the restaurant after a successful job interview for a construction project. Meryem tells him that Fatma went to her session alone, since Rahmi had to help Mukaddes with Murat and Elif. Kerim begins to worry about her being on her own. She calls him, just as he’s about to go look for her. She tells him not to worry. She’s about to cross the street and catch a cab. She does not realize that Erdogan has been following her for blocks, and has entered the underground pedestrian tunnel right behind her. As soon as she hangs up, she hears the voice of her nightmares call out her name. She turns, and faces Erdogan!

-End of episode.

Juanita- I was hitting the "publish your comment" button, the page would cycle around and the post would not be there, and nothing was being said. On the third try, it said it was posted, and it was, but when I reloaded the page it was gone, this indicates that the spam program grabbed it.

the only solution I've found is to just try at another time, (of course it might help if I was a registered user)

also, I just have a slow dial up internet connection at home which affects the recaptcha program sometimes.

a couple of times in the past, all of the posting tries would then show up, which was embarrassing, you can delete the multiple copies, can't you, because I wouldn't want to mess up your nice page.


 

GENERAL:

I noticed earlier this week that a comment from JdesdeNYC disappeared too. It was there for a bit, and I read it. But when I refreshed the page it was gone. Deb might not have been the only one getting hit by the spam blocker last week. It's happened on other posts to other commenters from time to time.
 

In my experience with the Blogger spam filter, the most effective thing to do is have your site administrator release the comments from spam so the filter knows it made an incorrect choice. Copying and pasting your comment will just convince it that it's right--that's what spammers do, post the exact same message over and over.

Eva and her motor pool bunnies reminds me of a line from "Senora Acero" when the lady in prison explains to her out side contact why she needs lots of money, "do you know what it costs to buy makeup in this place?"

 

Fatma:
Thanks Vivi. A calm before the storm episode. Fatma must be terrified when she saw her tormentor in front of her. The nightmare shows us Fatma is no where near recovered from that trauma and Kerim is linked to that night forever. He was standing there not helping just as he was that night. Like she siad 2 Kerims. Also, I think the wedding dress represents her fear of the wedding as well as the wedding night. Elif is the first letter of the Arabic alphabet and is very common in Turkey. Every single Turkish show I have watched had an Elif. Mukka did seem sincere thanking Meryem but it didn't last, of course.

I'm finally weighing in on Wednesday's episode. I had no time yesterday (big accounting ju-ju to accomplish at work) to comment at all. I did watch the episode, though. Deb, your recap was waaaay better than the show itself.

The things that are so "off" about the writing are getting on my nerves. The schmuck of a lawyer that is representing Eva is unbelievable. I have no idea of what stage in the legal system we're supposed to be. Was the first slur on the US Justice System in which Armando lied his hindquarters off a preliminary hearing? Why did they send Eva to the Big House before she'd been officially convicted? I think I've heard you don't get bail in a murder trial. But did the lawyer ask for her to be released on bail?

Marlene can't wait to put Fabiola in a nuthouse. Armando makes some feeble attempts at sticking up for his daughter. But when M says she's just spoiled by Eva, why in blue blazes doesn't he remind her the child is autistic?

Pablo apparently being held for weeks with no charges, legal hearing, nada, is just insane. It looks like they're going with him getting Eva out after he passes the bar. I can't stand it!

The only thing I can think of is that they're going with a time jump. But Betty's pregnancy is a ticking bomb. I don't see how they're going to go with him being forced to marry her after she pulled that trick of prosecuting her rival.

Yep, Eva's mechanical skills immediately getting her a job in the motor pool was funny. And she gets to hang out with her new comadres discussing things. No guards come to tell them to get to work.

I'll put something up tonight. Hope it isn't a string of %^&(^@#$ because nothing at all makes sense.

Oh, on the disappearing comments, if it's more than a couple of sentences, I usually type things in Word and then paste them. I haven't had any problems with things disappearing on me. But when I preview what I'm about to post and see it doesn't make much sense, I can go back to Word, fix it, and then re-paste.

Thanks muchly, deb and Vivi, for your descriptions of the disappearing message problem. What you've described is different from what I've experienced. I know nothing about how the spam filter works, where it's located, and what to do about it. I was under the naive impression that the Captcha mechanism was the only automated anti-spam feature CarayCaray had. Do keep LXV and me posted about any further occurrences.

Deb, in answer to your question about whether I can delete multiple copies of posts, I'm pretty sure the answer is that I can if I put up the page. If LXV put up the page, then she's the only one who can delete your multiple copies. However, I'm under the impression that the poster can always delete her own posts. There's a little garbage can icon at the end of each post you make. If you click on that, you'll be asked whether you want to delete the post. You won't see the icon except for your own posts. Right now, I can see them for everyone's postings, which means I can zap them (Ah, Power!). But when I go to a page from last week, which LXV put up, I see the icon only for my posts.

Even if the spam filter problem goes away, I'd strongly recommend doing what novelera and I do, namely, first write your comment somewhere other than right here. Novelera uses Word, I use a text editor called UltraEdit, especially for my recaps but at times for other messages as well. I then copy from UltraEdit and paste here. If something goes amiss, I don't have to try to rewrite the message. The reason I don't do this for all postings is that there's a terrific free add-on for Firefox and Pale Moon browsers called Lazarus. I've used it for years, and it has saved my bacon many times. It will automatically record anything that I type in my Pale Moon browser (such as this message, for example). If there's a power outage or a misbehaving spam filter or anything else that prevents my Priceless Words of Wisdom from being posted, I can just go into Lazarus and, as the name suggests, retrieve it from the dead. (I should add that I know that Lazarus is available for Windows, but I'm not sure about Mac, Linux, etc. To be honest, it seems to me slightly less reliable than it was in the past, but I still use and love it.)
 

Fatigue

Vivi didn't lget to see yesterday's epi. Reading about it thru your lens was awesome. Thanks mucohos for getting right on it. It was somewhat a downer for me. It appears to me that Fatma has transitioned slowly into the wife role with Kerim, with the exception of making out. She has loving feelings for him, wants to know what he is up to, enjoys enteracting with him and preparing his meals and fav desserts. In spite of their progress with family and life's problems these two continue to forage anew. The Y clan just don't get it, they continue to make bad choices regardless of who it hurts and not take resp for their actions. They are dropping like flys. I see no redemption for them. Will Peri really talk?

 

Eva. I'm starting to wonder if the "accuracy" with which "Eva" represents US legal proceedings is representative of how telenovelas treat legal matters in general. A few years ago I watched "Para volver a amar," a Univisión tn whose main character was a woman who after many years of working in a real estate firm struck out on her own to start a real estate company. It had lots and lots of information on Mexican real estate law--so much so that I recommended it to my students who were business majors. Now I'm wondering if the information was accurate or just manipulated for the story line. :(

Juanita- thanks for your concern, but I hope I wasn't complaining, I like the spam program, it does a wonderful job, and I would surely hate to bother blog mom about it who I'm guessing from what was said earlier, sets that up.

I believe this whole thingy is limited to unregistered users, because the spammer should know and trust the posters that log on and have a history.

also an unregistered user does not have the option of deleting their posts, after all the blogger doesn't know who you are if you are not logged in because any one could be posting under that unregistered name.

I wouldn't believe anything that happens in a Telemundo courtroom, there was a time when the judge started going around the courtroom sentencing other people as well.

Deb, I didn't interpret your remarks as complaining. Not at all. I just hate to see you, JdesdeNYC, and other valued participants having difficulty posting. Hmmm...perhaps you're right about the problem affecting only folks who haven't registered. I assume there are good reasons for your not registering. Let's hope this problem disappears. I agree that it would be best not to trouble blog mom about it if we can avoid doing so.

I've been watching, too, and am enjoying this show. The plot seems fairly simple and would not take much to get caught up to speed if anyone starts watching late.

Siller has a very good comic sense; he was fun in RdC also. He seemed a bit wooden in ADCLG, but that might have been the director's fault.

Looks like Basilio has now figured out "Leo" has a doppelgänger.

Cool that F&K spent some time together...alone for a change. The long awaited kiss was sweet but short. Not cool was Muka calling to be nosey and to ask to come to the country house also. Less cooler was Fatma agreeing that she could come....what was Fatma thinking. Kerim should have said HELL NO!

Cool that kerim took the lead to break the ice about the tension regarding the kiss. Now they can keep moving forward. Not cool that Fatma still has nightmares and trust issues but I know these will be lufe long challenges for her.

Not cool was that idiot Ergo stalking Fatma so he can menace her about the charges. Both he and his tio are loco. They want to rewrite history and actually think Fatma will just go along with their plan to either drop charges completely or leave out some of the rapist. Just idiotic thinking on their parts. How were they ever successful business men.....oh wait...their business is not successful these days.

MEstafa....what can I say about him...his weakness is appalling. If he's going to be a prisoner to the Ys...he might as well fess up to the law and go to prison. Real prison cant be as bad as being at the Ys beck and call. He walks away looking sick and dirty after each encounter with them.

EVA LA TRAILERA – VIERNES – Parte 1 de 2

Eva really screws up by attacking Marlene in open court thus confirming the violent side Betty has been harping on.

Pablo spars with Marisol. Marisol disappoints me. She lies to Pablo, saying that Betty is only trying to be a good prosecutor. She denies the very same thing she said to Betty – that she’s pursuing Eva because Pablo loves her. Pablo tells Marisol that Eva had no reason to kill Sofía for jealousy because she was already in love with him. Marlene looks like this makes her think.

Pancho and Robert have signed their “partnership”. Pancho says that Bobby is pura cepa (a true representative of his class) after they sign.

Marlene goes on with her “testimony”. She says that Eva has always been impulsive, aggressive and violent. She goes on to say that Eva has always appeared to be a great mother in public, but is different in private. Armando almost groans out loud in the courtroom. Marlene says that Eva constantly fought with Adriana and rejected Fabiola because she’s autistic. At this Armando walks out. Martín is furious. Marlene says that Eva slapped Adriana, and that’s why she left home. Viewerville notices that Eva’s rotten lawyer doesn’t object or cross examine Marlene.

Pablo wants Jota Jota to get close to Marisol and get the truth of Betty’s motives. Apparently they had some romance in the past, but JJ didn’t call her.

Cinthia sees the lunar (mole) on Soraya’s body when she’s at the club. [Two things: who gets a massage in full makeup? The other thing is, wow, they went with the inherited mole. I’ve seen this old chestnut in novelas 20 years old. I really question whether moles are inherited in the same spot; but they always are in novelas.]

Fabiola is frightened and clings to Bertha. The maids gossip and say that the family le cayó la chahuiztle. [New one for me. This word refers to a worm that infects a corn crop, probably causing big problems for the farmer. So I guess this must be a metaphor meaning that Eva’s family has really hit the wall in so many ways.] Armando has overheard this conversation of the maids.

Evencio testifies about the relationship between Armando and Sofía. In his testimony he misinterprets Eva’s reaction to Sofía being there, thinking she was angry with Sofía. But Viewerville saw in the flashback that she was angry with Armando. Evencio does drop a bombshell, though. Betty asks if he saw the weapon, and Evencio says there was no weapon where Eva was holding her dying niece in her arms.

Eva’s crappy lawyer actually shows a pulse and does his job for two seconds. He emphasizes that Evencio said that Eva didn’t even know Sofía was at Mon-Sol when she arrived and that no weapon was seen by Evencio when he walked in. At this the two perras, Betty and Marlene, look a bit worried.
 

EVA LA TRAILERA – VIERNES – Parte 2 de 2

We overhear Robert talking to one Dionisio, apparently one of his compinches. He tells the guy the money is in the company’s account, and they aren’t going to have any problems with the chorizero. He goes on to say that Pancho él mismo se puso la soga en el cuello cuando contrató al Bobby.. (He put the noose around his own neck by having Bobby be his representative.) Robert says that Bobby is his son for something, after all.

Adriana is quite drunk after the Vegas ceremony in which she married El Asqueroso and calls her father. She says she wants things the way they were, her mother and father together. Andy hangs up the phone anf grabs her face roughly, showing his true colors for once. She says he can’t prevent her from calling her family. He calls her stupid.

Cinthia comes to tell Robert about the mole being in the same place on Soraya and that this means the Mogollones are his bio parents.

Javier and Elsa are watching the TV reporting of Eva’s trial. Elsa figures out that Marlene set up the whole thing. Elsa is going to be the one to go to Marlene and ask for what they want. She says she can domar esa fiera. Ha!

Robert and Cinthia try to pull down Bobby’s underpants and look for the mole. He’s not too happy about this.

Marlene’s lawyer, Silva, comes to see Eva. He tells her he’s brought divorce papers she wanted. But it appears it is some document in which she gives up all custodial rights to her children and resigns from Mon-Sol. She tells him to tell that pair of hungy coyotes that she’s not signing this. The slimy guy hints that Fabiola could be sent to an institution if she doesn’t sign. Eva says she doesn’t want to add years to her sentence by doing what she’d like: strangling him.

Robert thinks it’s an advantage for them that they know that Bobby is the bio child of Pancho and Soraya, but that they don’t know that they know. He keeps saying that Bobby is not very bright.

Marlene has moved into Armando’s house. She’s completely over the top. She takes Eva’s clothes out of her closet and scorns them for representing the taste of a naca. She yells at Bertha and the maids, telling them that she’s now the señora of the house. [It sure looks like she’s overplaying her hand.]

Cinthia wants to get Bobby’s mole removed, hinting at the possibility of cancer. He absolutely refuses.

Betty is over the moon about Eva’s behavior in the courtroom, but Marisol tells her that Pablo is going to tell all when he gets out.

Bertha tells Fabiola that she has to leave. Fabi starts to fall apart, clinging to Bertha. Armando watches from the doorway. Bertha eventually says she’ll stay.

Marlene is on a tear. She’s throwing all the pictures of the naca into plastic bags. When Armando comes downstairs, she asks him if he got rid of the vieja. She gets a big shock when he says that Bertha is staying and that Marlene is prohibited from bothering her. Marlene, referring to Bertha: “But she hates me!” Armando: “My daughter hates you too, and she’s staying. If you don’t like it, you can go.” Viewerville is thrilled at the sight of Marlene’s dismayed face.

I got the impression Adriana wanted to come home but she wanted her dad to make things like they were before, I don't think she is liking her new life.

the way Pablo keeps threatening the legal community, I wonder if he will ever get out, maybe he and Eva will end up in a prison like in Centauro, where they can gaze at each other through the bars...

I hope they have to amputate Marlene's hand from Fabiola's bite.

Nett- Ditto to your whole comment. I keep wondering if Mestafa can sink any lower, or allow himself to be dragged down further. He just keeps on going. Jail would be more dignified. The Yasaran think everyone else is stupid or has no dignity. Mestafa keeps proving them right. Fatma keeps proving them wrong.

Romy- Love your interpretation of the dream. I thought it was very telling that she was wearing the wedding dress Kerim got her in the dream. So many conflicted feelings about him and their increasing intimacy. Not looking forward to watching how her living nightmare, Erdogan popping up, turns out.

Brenda- Yes, F&K are behaving more and more like a real married couple. And this time away was great for building on that. I like that they are both so comfortable now saying what's on their minds, even if it's something difficult or awkward. Physical intimacy is coming much more slowly, but is moving forward.

As for Perihan, until I see her pick up the phone and call Kadir, I'm not going to believe it.

Muchísimas gracias, novelera, for this excellent recap. It helped me see things I had missed, and I loved your account of things I hadn't missed, such as your comment about Eva's crappy lawyer showing evidence of a pulse. Also, the Spanish you highlighted was exceptionally helpful.

I don't know what to make of the crappy lawyer's sudden return to life. What he said was very compelling and convincing, but unfortunately they don't seem to have picked anyone from Viewerville to serve on the jury. I'm not optimistic about Eva's lawyer prevailing.

And what's with Marisol? I guess we're supposed to think that her being frank with Betty and lying to Pablo shows what a good friend she is of Betty. That's not what it shows me.

Looks as if Adriana is finally beginning to realize that her mother was right. I think among the things she tells Armando is that she wants to come home. But that's when AA comes by, grabs the phone, hangs up, and gets rather menacing to Adriana. If she were stone sober, she might be able to think of a way to escape, but he's got her so drugged on booze and cocaine or whatever that she can barely walk a straight line, let alone think.

Armando is apparently beginning to see what a vicious perra Marlene is. But is that a bullseye starting to form on his back?

Wow. Well we knew Erdo was going to so something really stupid just by approaching Fatma. What I didnt see coming was Rhami coming to the rescue. Poor Rhami is now in trouble with the law because of the Ys and having to protect his sister from them. Looks like all the men in show will spend time behind bars...just cant wait for all the Y men to go to jail permanently...hopefully anyway.

And memeMuka couldnt wait to blame Fatma and to give her hell about it. She is going to make life miserable for Fatma until Rhami is released and lets hope that is soon.

And Munir and team Y are plotting on how to capitalize off of this unfortunate event. While on the one hand you want Erdo to die and be gone....but for Fatmas and Rhamis same...he needs not to die. And stupid memeKkadis reaching out to the Ys is only going to bring headaches and trouble.


This show continues to bring it. Great story....great entertainment.

MEstafa was in fine form. He knows he could help Rahmi, but he won't do that if it means putting himself on the line. Typical.
 

Fatma: Mukka will eat Fatma alive if Rahmi stays in jail and The Y family got Fatma and her family between a rock and a hard place. Uff, by helping Fatma Rahmi's fate is completely up to the Y's and Rahmi can not survive in jail and Fatma can not survive Mukka.

Silva, the skeeziest lawyer in the LA Bar, tells Eva he's brought her divorce papers. Marlene should have known by now, Armando certainly does and did, that Eva doesn't sign things without reading them.

Thank you novelera. Your recaps NEVER disappoint and this was no exception. So the matching inherited moles have surfaced. Oyy! (and they are both perfectly symmetrical stars; I had thought they were tattoos!) We're totally into suspension of disbelief mode here—on so many fronts. But I'm still in for the duration, because my schedule is on the 9 o'clock show, whatever they throw at me.

This Bobby thing is starting to bother me. How soon before he finds out. I was kind of hoping he'd stay in the dark for a while. They may disparage his intelligence, but he's the one who questioned the blood type results way back in the beginning. Glad he's sticking to his guns about the mole removal.

Do we know what Bertha's real relation is to the family. Is she a real tía or do they just call her that? And whose tîa is she, anyway? Is she there as a paid servant, or is she family?

Armando will cave to Marlene's blandishments or threats in no time, my prediction. He's in too deep to get all noble and right-minded at this point. And pobre de Javier, he doesn't have a prayer now that his wife has shown her true colors to Marlene.

Novelera, in answer to your question about Berth's real relation to the family, I looked at the Source of All Wisdom, Wikipedia :-). There the character is listed simply as Bertha González. That doesn't prove that she's not some aunt on Eva's mother's side (or, I suppose, Armando's mother's side), but it also doesn't suggest that she IS a relative (as it would if she had had the name Soler, for example). For more information, I guess we've got to hire Pablo and Martin.

Que Culpa Tiene Fatmagul? Cap 58, 2/26/2016

PART I

As Fatma walks her merry way home, speaking to Kerim on her cell phone, Yasar and Mustafa follow behind her. Mustafa looks nervous having to play rescuer, Yasar advises him to calm down and good luck stalking and “rescuing” his prey. As she walks through a pedestrian tunnel, she hears the voice of her rapist calling out to her, telling her to calm down, it’s a total coincidence that they’ve run into each other and he won’t hurt her. He’s only taking advantage of their “purely coincidental” meeting to ask her to drop the rape charges against him. Of course, Fatma believes there’s a bridge for sale in Brooklyn for the low, low price of a dollar more than she does Erdo the Ego’s claim. She briskly walks away from her assailant and he follows her telling her she will retract her claim and drop the charges against him. He grabs her arm, and of course Fatma starts screaming like a banshee. Mustafa comes closer to the pedestrian tunnel to “rescue” Fatmagul per the Yasarans’s plans, but is cut off at the pass as Rahmi becomes Fatma’s avenging angel. He beats Erdogan upside the head with a long-handled garden shovel a couple of times and Erdogan lands on the ground bloody and unconscious. Mustafa slithers off seeing that Rahmi did what he was about to do but worse. Fatma is shocked by the whole incident, asking Rahmi why did he attack Erdogan, and immediately calls an ambulance as she realizes her brother attacking her rapist before his trial for said rape is not a good look under Turkish law. Mustafa calls Resat, who’s in a meeting with his brother-in-law Munir and his nephew Selim plotting more evil against Team Fatma, and lets him know the Fatma/Erdo meeting went badly, very badly. In all likelihood, Mustafa emphasizes, Rahmi killed Erdogan with that shovel since he beat him so badly. Munir asks his brother-in-law what happened and Resat simply responds, “Nothing, nothing important; where were we?”

Fatma calls Kerim, who’s outside with Meryem, and lets him know what happened. He’s, of course, shocked. Next we see Rahmi and Fatma getting out of the ambulance with Erdo and Rahmi telling all and sundry that he was the one who injured Erdogan because Erdogan attacked his sister. He says it so proudly and repeatedly that Fatma has to tell him to “shut up” even as she’s hoping and praying that Erdo lives as she knows instinctually that her brother is in legal trouble for the assault.

Kerim and Meryem try to call Kadir but he’s out-of-town at a conference in Antalya and his phone is shut off, so Kerim calls his lawyer Omer to help them deal with this situation. “Please hurry,” Kerim pleads with Omer over the phone as he rushes to the hospital with Meryem to help and comfort Fatma and Rahmi. Meanwhile, the police show up at the hospital and Rahmi tells the officer that he hit Erdo because he was following Fatmagul and grabbed her. Fatmagul adds that she was trying to get away from Erdo but he pursued her. Rahmi reiterates he had to do something to save his sister. The officer grabs Rahmi by the arm and takes him down to the police station and Fatma follows behind. At the station, Rahmi, sensing the seriousness of the situation after Omer shows up, starts to mitigate his culpability by saying hit Erdogan without thinking, in self-defense because Erdogan had grabbed Fatmagul’s arm and she was screaming for help. As soon as he mentions self-defense, the questioning officer tells him he can’t claim self-defense because Erdogan was repeatedly hit from behind and Fatmagul has no sign of injury on her.


 

FATMAGUL

CAP 58 PART II

Kadir returns Meryem’s calls but Meryem does not tell him what’s going on since he is obviously having a great time with Humeyra and his other colleagues. He’ll be home in the morning in any event and they don’t want to ruin his good time.

Himilye, Erdogan’s mother comes to visit him in the hospital and Erdo wakes up upon hearing her voice. Resat then and there confronts him about going to meet Fatma in the tunnel and tells him in order to not cause any more trouble for the family, he should still pretend to be unconscious by keeping his eyes shut. Remaining unconscious will turn him into the victim instead of the aggressor. They will also transfer him to their private hospital where the doctors will write the medical reports the Yasaran want to spin the situation to their advantage. They have to take advantage of this situation in order to keep the family out of trouble. Himilye is at first shocked by this, marveling that Resat could sink so low, but of course goes along to protect her “baby.”

Mukaddes rushes to the police station to see Rahmi and before finding out all the details starts to blame Fatmagul for Rahmi being involved with the police. Despite Kerim telling Mukaddes to stop being a jerk, Mukaddes threatens Fatmagul that if Rahmi is jailed, she’ll get revenge on Fatma for it.

Resat calls Perihan and lies to her about how Erdogan was injured. He says Fatma and co set a trap for Erdogan and attacked him until he was unconscious. So, he will have Erdo transferred to their private hospital where they will give him better care. After this call, Mustafa shows up and Resat tries to blame him for Erdogan’s attack. Just then, Selim shows up around the corner, sees both men in conversation and remains hidden to better hear what happened to Erdogan. Mustafa defends himself from Resat’s accusations saying that he did what Resat told him to do which was stay back and “rescue” Fatmagul when Erdogan was confronting her. He insists he did nothing wrong because as soon as the plan went bad, he informed Resat. “I only wanted you to rescue her so you could look good in her eyes so you could better convince her to drop the charges,” Resat spits back. Mustafa walks off and Selim comes from the shadows to confront his father with the knowledge that he knew Erdogan was attacked before it was common knowledge because he had Mustafa follow Erdo. Resat tells Selim he’s trying to save his life by blaming Erdogan for the rape since Erdo is the one whose actions precipitated the rape just as he precipitated his attack by going to bother Fatma.

We’re back at the police station and the police head calls the hospital to learn Erdo’s state; Erdo has a cranial fracture and a brain lesion. The police decide to arrest Rahmi and Munir, in the waiting area with Fatma and Kerim, takes the time to pour salt on Team Fatma’s wounds. He claims they planned to attack Erdogan and did so in a deserted place with no witnesses. Kerim says Erdogan instigated the incident but Munir says there are no witnesses and Erdogan is fighting for his life so Mukaddes better pray Erdogan gets better so Rahmi doesn’t rot in jail.

Mukaddes continues to prove she’s scum as she blames Fatmagul for Rahmi being in jail after Kerim blames himself for not picking Fatmagul up after her doctor’s appointment. Mukaddes tells him to stop defending Fatmagul who always brings the family problems. Kerim gets in Mukaddes’ face, but is held back by Meryem. Mukkades unleashes her venom on Fatmagul saying she wishes it was her husband in jail for defending her instead of Rahmi because her children are going to pay the price. She blames Fatmagul for all their problems since they’ve gotten to Istanbul and tells her “this is what happens when you face off with powerful people.”

CAP 58 PART III

Dr Nil finds out Erdogan was injured from a doctor colleague of hers since he is transferred to her hospital. She runs to see what happened to him and sees Hilmiye crying over Erdo. Resat tells Dr Nil that Fatmagul and her brother attacked Erdogan which is why he is in critical condition. Of course, Dr Nil looks sorry for the scum with all the lies los Yasaran are feeding her. She later asks Hilmiye why Erdo went to meet with Fatma. Selim tells her it was to please her; he wanted Fatma to tell Dr. Nil to her face that he isn’t a rapist.

Rahmi is with Omer at the courts testifying to the district attorney about what happened. He tells them he attacked Erdo to defend Fatma. The DA asks Rahmi if Erdo had hit or pushed Fatma and he says he grabbed her by the arm and Fatma was screaming for help. The DA decides to send Rahmi to a psychiatrist to determine his psychological state before he’ll file charges. Meanwhile Munir continues to troll Fatma and Kerim in the court waiting area. He taunts them about attacking Erdogan on purpose; Kerim asks him if he ever knows when to shut up. Finally, after Rahmi is taken away to the psychiatrist, Fatma begs Kerim to take her away from Munir “since that man disgusts me.”

Rahmi is questioned by the psychiatrist if he understands what is happening to him. He answers that he hurt Erdogan and she’s testing if he’s crazy or not to determine if he’ll be charged with the crime. If he’s crazy they won’t charge him, Rahmi notes. Outside the psychiatrist’s office are Kerim, Fatma and Munir waiting to learn Rahmi’s diagnosis. Munir receives a call, says “They died?” and “I’ll handle it,” leading Fatma to believe Erdo passed away. Kerim, however, goes over to clarify with Munir who died. Munir says it isn’t “who they think it is,” but Leman, who committed suicide by jumping out of a window of the mental hospital in which she was interned. Munir looks genuinely sad as he wipes away tears from his reddened eyes mourning his former lover. Rahmi is escorted out the psychiatrist office and proudly tells Fatma he’s not crazy because he’ll be charged. “I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but at least I’m not crazy,” he concludes with a wry smile.

At home Fatma cries on Kerim's shoulder about Rahmi's imprisonment. Rahmi, she says, “is like a child. He doesn’t know how to manage himself alone outside of our home with strangers.” Meanwhile, baby Elif is heard crying in the background as Murat does homework. Kerim sympathizes and tells Fatma not to cry as he wipes away her tears. Like the hater she is, Mukaddes is angry that Kerim and Fatma are “flirting” while her husband rots in jail. Kerim goes to confront Mukaddes, to be stopped by Meryem, but not before she reveals in the earshot of Murat that Rahmi is in jail. (This is the second time in this chapter that Kerim and Mukaddes nearly locked horns).

 

FATMAGUL

CAP 58, PART IV

At the private hospital, Erdogan is operated on and the surgeon declares the operation a complete success. Erdo will fully recover, he says, since his body is strong. Resat thanks the surgeon profusely and asks the surgeon if they can not inform the police for a few days that Erdo is no longer critical; he wants Erdo’s attackers to suffer as he has suffered and wants to be able to exact punishment on his attackers and he needs time to do so. The surgeon agrees.

Perihan and Munir are speaking and Perihan blames Munir for Leman’s death. He didn’t love her and didn’t appreciate her. Munir denies this and said he loved her but everything went south when Vural found out about him and Leman’s affair. Perihan says they led Leman to kill herself and their conscience continues to grow heavy with all the machinations they’ve gone through to beat the rape case.

After the revelation that his father is in jail, Murat is, of course, crying for his dad and barely comforted by Mukaddes who tells him to quit whining and go to sleep since she has enough to deal with. His dad will soon be home, she reassures him and he finally goes to sleep. Kadir comes home to Istanbul and he’s upset Team Fatma didn’t tell him about Rahmi’s situation immediately. He gets down to business and explains their few options in Rahmi’s case. Even if Erdogan makes a full recovery, for which they should be praying fervently, Rahmi will still be tried for the assault; the only way out is for Erdogan to drop the charges, which Kerim notes will never happen. “How hopeful!” Mukaddes says sarcastically. Kadir then turns to Kerim and tells him he has to control his anger and fury at the Yasaran because in the days ahead everything will be more complicated and touchy than ever. Kerim agrees, noting that his fury can’t overcome the Yasaran in any event. “I’m glad you finally realize that,” Kadir tells Kerim.

Everyone at casa Kadir is having a sleepless night due to Rahmi’s imprisonment. Meryem seeks out Kadir in his office as he looks up laws that can possibly help Rahmi. She asks him about his trip to Antalya and Kadir says the trip was good as he went to visit his in-laws to let them know he’s well and what future plans he will make. Meryem wishes Kadir well and goes to bed; when she gets to her room you see she’s jealous that Kadir took Humeyra to see his in-laws as it seems obvious to her Kadir has plans to move on with her.

Mukaddes uses her sleepless night to call Perihan begging her to convince the family to drop the charges against Rahmi. Mukaddes blames los Yasaran for continually harassing her family despite what they have done and yet Selim and Erdogan are walking around free while her husband is in jail. Resat and Munir are in the room while the call is on speakerphone and they egg on Perihan to get Mukaddes to say something incriminating. Perihan, however, hangs up the phone and tells her husband and brother that Mukaddes is right and she was ashamed to be on the phone with her. Resat and Munir go into immediate plotting mode, saying they have to take advantage of this situation since it’s obvious Mukaddes called on her own account without the rest of Team Fatma’s knowledge. They will confront them in the morning. Perihan looks on disgusted with the two men in her life.
 

FATMAGUL

CAP 58, PART V

At Kadir’s Team Fatma is getting ready to go visit Rahmi. But there are a lot of problems. Elif refuses to breastfeed, perhaps sensing the stress in the home, and at school Murat’s classmates make fun of his father being a killer in jail (their parents read the story and showed the kids the picture of Rahmi on the way to jail). After Murat furiously denies the charge, the two classmates blame him for instigating the argument. Murat is sent home by his teachers since he doesn’t want to go back to school and asks where his father is. Meryem lies to him and says Rahmi is in Ildir attending to some matters.

Rahmi, due to his own awkwardness, is not getting along with his cellies. They try to include him in their activities and offer him tea but he just isn’t interested. He stays firmly in his bunk away from everyone and everything even as they make fun of him lightly for not being social.

Erdo continues to play possum after his surgery. We see him speaking to Selim; he admits he is in a lot of pain, but he’s conscious enough to put up with Selim making fun of him for thinking he could convince Fatmagul to drop the charges against them. When Dr. Nil enters the room, he goes silent and “unconscious” and as she looks at his medical chart, she questions why he’s still sleeping if his vitals says otherwise. “I don’t know,” intones Selim, “you’re the doctor.”

Kadir, Kerim and Fatma go to visit Rahmi in jail. Unfortunately, the warden will not allow any other visitors except for lawyer Kadir, in accordance with the law. Fatma is livid and says there’s no way she’s not going to see her brother; she will convince the warden herself. Kerim and Kadir try to hold her back as she goes to see the warden but he comes out asking what’s going on and she begs him to see her brother. She insists she has to see her brother, who, although he’s thirty years old, is like a child; if she doesn’t visit him, he’ll think his family abandoned him. The warden says his mental state is stable and Fatma says Rahmi is not crazy or backwards, but she has to let him know his family supports him. The warden lets her see Rahmi along with Kadir.

Upon visiting Rahmi, Fatma notices he has a rash-“just an allergy” Rahmi insists. Fatma gives him Elif’s baby bib that Mukaddes sent for him to smell to remind him of home. Kadir tells Rahmi he doesn’t know how long he’ll be in jail. Rahmi tells them that everyone in jail tells him he can get three years in jail if Erdogan lives and recovers and twenty-four years if he dies. He can wait up to nine months for trial. Everything depends on Erdogan’s state but he’ll suffer all for Fatma. They give each other well wishes and Rahmi tells them to tell Mukaddes not to worry, just take care of the kids; he also doesn’t want Murat to know he’s in jail. Fatmagul, of course, breaks down and cries as she exits from the visit. “We have to get him out of here,” she says to Kadir. As she and Kadir go back to the waiting area to see Kerim and leave, Munir shows up. Kerim is actually calm and tries to hustle Fatma out of there, but Munir stops Fatma and co in their tracks as he offers her a quid pro quo: If she drops the rape charges against Erdogan and Selim, los Yasaran will drop the attempted murder charges against Rahmi for assaulting Erdogan. “You decide,” Munir intones creepily.

Just the last two episodes, both Meryem and Kerim have locked horns with Mukaddes. I think that house is getting way too small. She needs to GO! But leave the kids and Rahmi (if he gets out).

What a horrible position Fatma has been put in. She loves Rahmi like no one else. She would definitely sacrifice herself and her case for him. Ugh!

Can't stand Mukaddes blaming Fatma for Rahmi being in jail. It harkens back to how she bullied and shamed Fatma after the rape. I'm glad Kerim was jumping in to defend Fatma, but I really want someone to slap Mukaddes' mouth shut. That can't be Kerim, so I hope Meryem or even Fatma does it.

On to happier topics-- it's obvious Kadir went to speak to his in-laws about his plans to move on with Meryem. And Humeyra is supportive, as she was teasing him about Maryem. He needs to make his move already, because Meryem is jumping to all kinds of conclusions.

Vivi, ITA with everything you had to say. Kadir needs to declare himself to Meryem; she's jumping to so many conclusions about Humeyra even as Humeyra was joshing Kadir about Meryem.

Kerim looked like he was going to hit Mukaddes both times they locked horns. When he and Mukaddes got into it in the house, Meryem literally ran from the other room like she was Usain Bolt to where they were because she knew it was on like Donkey Kong. I don't condone men hitting women, but Mukaddes had it coming. Kerim was too through with her harassing Fatma, and some woman, preferably Fatma or her first baby daddy's wife, needs to slap Mukaddes.

After Thursday's cap with Fatma's nightmare, I'm wondering is to what extent did Kerim abandoned Fatma during her rape. I was under the impression that the reason he didn't do anything to stop the rape was that he was passed out from the drugs and liquor, not because he was awake watching los Yasaran and Vural raping Fatma which made him a lot less culpable to me. In Fatma's nightmare, it seemed as if Fatma thought Kerim was there conscious but did not do anything to help. What are the facts, there?

J- Sorry to disappoint you, but Kerim was conscious while the others raped her. Drunk, high, feeling guilty, and turning away, but conscious. He only passed out when it was his turn.

Ouch, that was a hit to the gut. I saw the first ep, but thought the writers had Kerim passed out while the rape was going on. I thought this because the Yasaran and Vural were trying to blame Kerim for the rape, Kerim said he didn't remember a thing and then Vural told him he hadn't done anything to Fatma.

I think I'm going to have to watch the first chapter again to make sure.

It was a tough scene. I literally wanted to throw-up when they threw the liquor on her.

So, I rewatch the rape scene and the writers left a lot vague. As we all know, Kerim was the one who pointed Fatma out to the other guys as she was running to say goodbye toe Mustafa. He grabs her playfully and she escapes his clutches by biting his arm. Then he falls down giggling and unaware of anything besides Vural. Erdogan and Selim grab Fatma and hold her down and cover her mouth to stifle her cries; they call Vural over from Kerim's side asking for the bottle of liquor he has. Vural comes over to them and all three pour and smear the liquor on Fatmagul. Kerim is still on the ground giggly/high unaware of what's going on because the rest have cover Fatma's mouth. Kerim gets up off the ground and finally sees the other three rubbing Fatma down with the alcohol, and he stares. After Erdo, Selim and Vural pour the liquor on Fatma, Selim says, "Now what" and that's when Erdogan unbuckles his belt and proceeds to rape Fatma. Kerim gets out of his stupor at this point since Fatma is screaming bloody murder-she had gotten her mouth free when Erdogan started unbuckling--and stares in shock from his position but does nothing as Erdogan is on top of Fatma. We don't actually see Kerim's face after Erdogan rapes Fatma as there's cuts of Selim on top of Fatma, which then cuts to Mustafa looking out from the fishing boat longingly wondering why Fatma didn't show up to say goodbye. Then they change to Vural on top of Fatma and then we see Erdogan swimming in the water beside the crime scene and him inviting Vural to join him in the water, which he does. Then Kerim comes over to where Fatma is and just stands and stares at her. We don't know what Kerim did between the Erdogan, Selim and Vural raped Fatma. We just know his face was the last Fatma saw before she passed out because Kerim stood and stared over her. So, in this chapter the writers left it vague whether or not Kerim had raped her and it was only when Vural tells Kerim he didn't rape Fatma at all does the audience know for sure he didn't rape Fatma.
 

Eva. Well, looks as if my post is gone for good. I didn't realize I wasn't signed in to my g-mail account, and was in a hurry to get to a Saturday social engagement. Terrific recap, novelera! So right that Eva's lawyer doesn't seem to know the meaning of cross-examination. And why he doesn't call in some character witnesses to refute Marlene's testimony--people from Fabiola's school, for instance--completely escapes me. I too thought that birthmark on Bobby and Soraya was a tattoo. One thing Bobby, Soraya and Pancho have going for them is that Pancho is always way smarter than Robert. Bobby may even be overjoyed to find out that Soraya and Pancho are his real parents. If I were in his shoes I know I would be!

Wow, sorry about your earlier message, SpanProf. I wonder whether there's been a change in the way the spam filter works, making it much harder for unregistered people (and registered people who write from an unrecognized account) to have their messages posted. I don't know.

I've never understood the birthmark business, especially in the case of Soraya and Bobby. First of all, I guess I've never known anyone whose birthmark appears in another generation, let alone in the same place. (Then again, I have never really looked into the matter.) But even stranger to me is the specific birthmark that Soraya and Bobby have--a perfectly formed five-pointed star. Do birthmarks come in shapes like that? Hers is apparently just in outline, while IIRC his is filled in, but still.... Mind you, I'm not talking about what we see in telenovelas but rather what occurs in the Real(?) World.

Also, speaking of Soraya, I'm quite relieved that Arnulfo has died and is no longer in the house. I really did fear his tumbling down the stairs at an inopportune moment.
 

Fatma: Did you watch the Turkish version or the one showed on Telemundo because the Turkish version clearly shows Kerim fully conscious and aware of what is going on. He passed out when it was his turn not before so he did not help her because he was incapacitated and he wanted to be like his rich friends.
Thank you for the recap. Fatma is under lots of pressure to drop the case. Let's see how this will get resolved. The y's never miss a beat in their plotting. I hate them as much as I hate Mukka.

Fatma: J n the Turkish version the audience knew Kerim did not rape her from the first episode. I don;t know if the Turkish version is available now that the show is airing again. Telemundo's cut version made it vague.

Eva. Thanks, Juanita! One other thing has struck me about recent episodes. Armando is one of the few characters who knows that Andy is a murderer. Even though his own skirts are not clean, so to speak, how could he allow his daughter to go off with him? And given the involvement of the press, why don't they investigate Marlene? It would seem that her entire story is available online and she has left lots of enemies in her wake.

J- Thanks for going back and watching. It fit my previous thinking that Kerim stood (stumbled) aside and did nothing. I think Vural's confession and flashback later definitely makes it clear that he stood by, and then passed out after he approached Fatma-- meaning that the last thing Fatma and Kerim saw was each other. And neither was sure about what happened until Vural spilled that truth. But it doesn't change the fact that Kerim did nothing, which for me from the beginning was THE hardest thing to accept. Again, I am so glad the writers did not have him actually rape her, as happened in the novel.

I would like for the therapist to explore with Kerim why fitting in with the Yasaran boys and Vural was so important to him. Important enough to disregard Meryem's warnings, to disregard their bad behavior and their using him, to ignore the red flags and his conscience, to accept taking drugs, to turn a blind eye when they committed this travesty, and to take the fall alone afterwards. I'm sure it has to do with that hole he described to Fahr-- the need to belong somewhere and to feel accepted, since he felt rejected by his father who left, and his mother who also left him by killing herself.

SpanProf great comments! Sorry about your blogger troubles. I'm mystified as well. Hope it doesn't persist. So please, please remind me. How do we know that "Armando is one of the few characters who knows that Andy is a murderer" I'm suffering from brain fog on this one. Also, your assessment of the legal aspects is a treasure for those of us less savvy. (However, I have committed to wearing my tin-foil beanie for the duration of this show. Not the first time I've had to go into suspension-of-disbeleif mode. It's just that I do like the characters.)

Armando was 100% on board and even was in the room with Chivo and Andy when they planned to kill Sofía. Like all telenovela expendable characters she told Marlene and Armando that she planned to have her mother exhumed and tested for drugs. The first attempt failed. My memory doesn't call up Armando being in the room again when the second, successful attempt was made.
 

Eva. Novelera: Armando was at a bar with old cronies, establishing an alibi, when Sofía was actually killed. Even though he was also complicit in the murder, that doesn't mean he would want his daughter hanging out with someone even more involved in the murder than he was. After all, if Andy murdered Sofía, couldn't he find a way to one day get rid of Adriana? LXV: My "legal" knowledge just comes from a lifetime of watching courtroom dramas (starting with Perry Mason, when I was a very small child) and reading mystery novels--not to mention the old "Day in Court" and more recent reality courtroom cases on tv. I was called for jury duty twice, but once the case was settled before it went to trial and the second time I wasn't chosen--they filled all the slots before they even got to me, in fact. I was on a coroner's jury once, which was a very interesting experience.

Thanks J for an excellent recap, I haven't been able to watch Friday's episode but feel like I don't need to now with your great detailed retelling.

I could not help but laugh at all resat wanted mustafa to do during Thursday's epi. What else do you want, leprechauns and unicorns?? Unfortunately rahmi,'s legal troubles looks like it could change things. I'm worried about what the consequences for team fatmagul are going to be.

Also Thanks J for going back and reconfirming the events of the rape scene. The only time I watched it I did a lot of FF. And I am so glad that the tn did not have kerim rape Fatmagul. And after we find out how this show ends I will be curious to see if the book had kerim face the same(or any type) consequences as the other guys. Do you know vivi if the tn has followed the book in what we how seen so far?

And I thought murat's reasoning for his sister's name was cute, that kid is too adorable.

jlk- I had to laugh too at Resat's orders. Either he thinks Mustafa can work magic, or that Fatma and Meltem are stupid and easily manipulated. Hacer is. Meltem sort of. Fatma is definitely not.

ah yes, bad guy Armando set up Sofia's kill by getting her there, no consolation that Chivo actually made the kill, not Andy, but earlier good guy Armando didn't want Andy to have anything to do with Adriana, but passed the buck to Eva who was taking Pablo's advice not to keep her locked up. And Marlene had Andy whisk Adriana away without the knowledge of Eva or Armando.

my lookey on the internet came up with it is possible for a family member to have a similar birthmark (another definition of lunar), but rare, so in our case an exact duplicate (which is nearly impossible but not so in a novela) would leave no doubt Bobby and Soraya were related.

and then there is Federica who is in jail for trying to kill her daughter-in-law but it is her nephew who is in jail from his association with Marlene.

I actually watched two versions of the rape scene: the Turkish version with English subtitles and a version played in Latin America dubbed in Spanish. They both ended the same way, with Kerim's face being the last thing Fatma sees before she passes out, but editing changes a lot of things.

Vivi, Meryem and the master welder he trained under both told Kerim that the rich boys were trouble and he ignored it because he was so emotionally insecure. Those boys were his only friends even though they did not live in Ildir nine months out of the year. I thought the flashback scenes showing Kerim witnessing his mother's suicide were just to create sympathy for Kerim despite his failure to help Fatma, but it really was to show what an insecure, desolate person he was who could latch on to these spoiled brats for some semblance of self-worth and security. He also had no father figure in his life since Fahr had left and los Yasaran and Vural were his world.

So recent discussions reasonably explain Kerim's mindset that allowed him to stand by and let his friends ravage a stranger. But on the other hand he was smittten by Fatma at first site.....how do you not stand up for the woman you are interested in..... high or not.

Early on I said I cant see how Fatma overcomes Kerim's presence and lack of help even if you believe he didnt participate. I see how the writers are getting beyond this but I cant see anyone in my life...or myself overcoming this about him in the way that Fatma is. But I guess she suffers from the same gaps and emptyness that he does so they are drawn to each others similarities. And I get that he really is a nice person at heart.....so is she. She needed so desperately someone to believe in and to help support her in ways that she was not getting from her own family for obvious reasons. Kerim is in redemption mode and would do anything for her to redeem himself.....so the storyline is working.

It crystallize the epi for me. Wow, ur recapp of the rape scene, in spite of the disturbing scenes, was worth revisiting again. You rock. Thanks patio peep.
