El Hotel de los Secretos #37, 3/17/16: Matilde is a "G"

Sorry for the late and short recap, I spent all morning trying to score Radiohead tickets!

Here is your recap:

  • Diego is not happy that his wife is spending so much time at the hospital, Isabel reminds him that the work she is doing is not a hobby or something that was meant to keep her entertained while she waited for them to get married, Ayala over hears the conversation and is told by Diego that he simply wants his wife to go home and rest.
  • The good doctor lays into Isa as well and tells her to go home and assume her responsibilities as an adult- for every hour she spends at her her husband will allow her to spend 3 in the hospital- Isa objects and tells him he is asking her to sell herself, the doctor disagrees and tells her that she can't act like a child, always demanding more, more and more but never giving anything up.
  • Felipe it turns out is not a religious man- he likes women, he likes booze and so he makes a run for it. He steals several bottles of wine from the church and sells them to Genaro. Dirt bag!
  • Sofia and her evil witch of a mother visit Alfredo in jail- he gets to see his "son"
  • At the hotel Diego gets bad news: Alfredo's mother is refusing to let them build the spa on her lands- she wont help him until he helps her find out who the real parents of her "grandchild" are.
  • She continues to be a witch to Sofia by badgering her about not having milk for the baby- Teresa says that the stress Sofia is under makes it hard for her to have milk, and using Belen as a wet nurse will allow Sofia to remain younger.
Now the important parts of the episode:

Angela discovers that Belen was after Andres because she discovered that he too is an Alarcon, she confronts her for being a gold-digger and for selling her baby. Belen disagrees with that classification and tells Angela that she too sold her son for a miserable job and a few rags, and that she made Andres a slave to his siblings. Angela is distraught by this, later she goes into Andres room and tells him that she kept the truth from him because she wanted him to be happy and have peace of mind. She remembers his father fondly and says he was like a sunflower always seeking the light.

My favorite part of the episode?

At the hospital a woman starts to pray over an injured man, and so Matilde gets on her knees and starts to pray to all the scientists who made important medical advances. That girl is a "G"! Ayala notices her and I think he might get a little crush.

Finally- Julio's ex-lover makes her way to the Gran Hotel, dun, dun, dun!

Thank you Juju! Love the way you keep these short and spicy.

When Angela pointed out to Belen that she was able to have her son ALIVE and raised WITH her, that said to me that both were threatened when he was born-- his life and her being able to keep him. That was most important to her. Not money or luxuries. But it definitely hit her hard when Belen pointed out she had made Andres into a slave to his siblings. She has a point. Hated to see Angela so distraught.

Laughed out loud at both Matilde's and Felipe's prayers, and when Ayala looked like he had been struck by cupid's arrow when he heard Matilde. I was not laughing though when Felipe stole all that wine from the monks and sold it. Not cool, dude.

Also not cool, Belen getting Baby #2 drunk, so that he'd sleep quietly in the trunk.

Also loved Doc Vic opening Isabel's willfully shut eyes to the fact that the hospital did NOT come without strings attached, as she so naively seemed to think. Now that hospital's future depends on her keeping up her end of the bargain with Diego, and actually being his wife. It's not pretty, but it's reality. Since she chickened out, and went back to her old rooms instead of her shared suite with Diego, seems like she's not yet ready to pay the price.

Thanks for the recap Juju!

I felt bad for Angela but I do have to say, Belen has a point. Keeping your son in poverty (and quasi-slavery) is not the way to ensure his happiness... I hope there is more to the story because right now it just seems like Angela was being selfish and didn't want her son to have his own life away from her.

How is it that baby #2 has not woken up all the other maids with his crying? Is she keeping him drunk the entire time??

Elisa is so harsh, but I do enjoy when Teresa's words cut her down. LOL

Not happy about Felipe going back to his old ways. I really hoped he had changed for the better.

What was with Isabel asking Julio what she means to him? Hello, he loves you. You're the one who left him...
I'm glad the doc is being hard on her about being married. She really did not think it through at all and now she's stuck with that creepy slimeball.

Mathilde and Ayala were definitely the best part of the episode!

Yep Princess Juju, it sure is you that treats us today. I like Radiohead too. Shhhh

"Felipe it turns out is not a religious man- he likes women, he likes booze and so he makes a run for it"

Was it Teresa that threatened Angela when she had Andres or Don Romo's parents or some other person or persons?

Belen's tryst with Diego sounds like it wasn't the same as a relationship between Angela and Don Romo, though the treat to both she and Angela similar, but did Don Romo ever attempt to give his son his name and Angela refused?

So glad Mama san has arrived! Julio got some splainin to do

Thank you, JuJu for the very fine recap!

So glad the doc told Isabel how it is with her mooning over Julio in the hospital. She needs to wake up fast.

Seeing Belén give the baby a bit of liquor to put him asleep was such a reminder of how far we have come in child care in a hundred years.

Will there be hope ultimately for a new and better Felipe or is this just a "stage" he is going through? Don't know how much I believe him beyond his being in the moment.

Thank you so much for the recap! I'm a longtime reader but haven't commented yet. My English CC doesn't work so I miss a lot while watching so these recaps are great!!
OMG Julio's lover is coming to get what she missed...perhaps Isabel will get Jealous and actually sleep with Diego?
Lol @tofie your last sentence yes he does indeed!
My favorite line of the episode was when Felipe said something like "come to Papa Felipe!"

So, got the tickets?? Right?? I so hope so.

Great succinct recap Juju. Gracias. I can't say I still like Belen, her Violetta stunt hits me too deep, but her dig to Angela helped give us perspective into the past. TO me though, the difference in those two women is that one truly wanted to protect and keep her child, most likely from the start, and maybe this was her only option at that time. Belen was willing to sell hers up until thinking she had money in the bank with Andres. Now she's all save motherhood, but someone wave enough under her nose in cash, I just wonder how maternal she would stay.

And with that, she better tell someone about Baby #2 because she can't keep this hide and go seek thing up. I keep having this fear the prop on the cabinet will slip out and the baby will smother. It's also not getting any daylight for significant hours. Ok rant over.

Someone slap Sophia. Because when she pulled the "Mi Amor" to poor Freddie...well, how she could claim to truly love that man and pull this masquerade is beyond me. I'm having a hard time feeling sorry as she whines and complains. Well, dammit, then do something, say something. Greed, standing and that blasted hotel is more important to her I guess. Well, it just might drive her to ruin.

Can I just tell you that I actually got REALLY happy to think that the mysterious stranger is Julio's former madam/lover/lifesaver.This is going to really add some spice to the story...and remember Ayala knows her too.

Isa I believe has seen the light of day, and she isn't happy. Yep girl, you blew it. Trying thinking through the scenario next time from all angles. And the longer she stews and stays away from hubby, the uglier this is going to be. And can I say, that whole "let me hear you breathe" wasn't fooling anyone.

Anyone think that Diego will either blow the lid on the baby caper, because what does he care? or he's going to have our Mumsy Elise meet with an accident soon so his plan can proceed?

Felipe made me sad. Drat. And yes, Mati rocked last night. She has been working her butt off through this. If anyone deserves to "run"the hospital, it's her.

I had no problem with Isabel breaking up with Julio. She should have broken up with him, it was a dead end and he should move on. However, Diego did not coerce her into marrying him and she is fully aware the expectations. Mooning for each other will get Julio killed by her husband.

Welcome out of the shadows Veronica

Welcome, Veronica!!! Great to hear you're leaving lurkdom and joining the conversation. And yes, it was hilarious when Felipe told the ladies in the pub to come to papa, and one of the gals just jumped right on him.

How will the low-rent working girls in the pud, react when they hear Madame Cecilia's higher class (and better dressed) girls are in town, and staying in the Gran Hotel no less?! They may demand a raise from Genaro.

Thanks Princess Juju! There were very few captions last night during the hospital scenes especially, so I really worried that I was missing something. I hope you got your Radiohead tickets!

I definitely got one thing really wrong - I thought Felipe was trying to cut a legitimate business deal with Genaro on behalf of the monastery (though without consent or agreement of the monks). Fiddlesticks, I can't believe he'd steal from them!

I LOVED Matilde's little prayer to the doctors (yes, I DID manage to catch that, even without captions) and I agree, that really got Ayala's attention!

Even though we now know for sure that Andres is the son of Romulo, there's still plenty more mystery left. Was Romulo even married yet when Andres was conceived? Was there an actual rivalry between Angela and Teresa? Even with that, there doesn't really seem to be anything seriously blackmail-worthy above and beyond Andres being firstborn. So there must be something else in their past that's really explosive - explosive enough that Diego decided not to burn the letter.

BTW, Benjamin finally got on my serial killer suspect list the other night when he said they shouldn't include any meat in the food they were going to send to the mine collapse. Up to that point, I hadn't considered him a suspect. But his callous attitude towards the people of the pueblo gave me second thoughts.

So who were those two women who checked into the hotel before Cecilia? Are they with Cecilia, or is Felipe planning to make them the next Mercedes and Eugenia? Has he learned anything yet??

Julie- They were Cecelia's "girls"-- her prostitutes. I am sure Felipe will make their acquaintance.

Julie- That's actually a good idea that Felipe could be starting up a legit business for the monks, selling their wine to the pub (not really kosher, but ok). But the fact that he stole the wine, and then spent all the money from the sale buying rounds of drinks for the whole pub, doesn't really support that theory.

If he has decided that what he wants to do with his life is continuing to be a bon vivant, fine. But why steal from the folks who've supported and put up with him all these months?

OK, thanks Vivi. Hmm, is Cecelia planning to set up shop at the hotel? Will anyone else local (besides Julio and Ayala) know her? We don't know anything about Diego's past, or Garrido's, or Dr. V's. It's always a very, very small world in a telenovela - so I figure she's got to run into someone else from her past that she wasn't expecting to see.

Thank you! Loving the discussion :)

Thank you! So exciting to be among fellow fans of the show.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments! Yes, I did manage to get the tickets!

Looks like I missed Felipe's falling back into old patterns. That is what I get for making supper and trying to watch at the same time. : (

OT
Kate del Castillo will be interviewed by Diane Sawyer on 20/20 tonight, 10PM EST

I'm not giving up El Hotel, but hope I can catch the interview somewhere.

Felipe was so funny, hard for me to be mad at him. The monks made a mistake taking him to the wedding. Too many temptations & Felipe is very weak with ladies (or not) & booze.

I really am blessed to get your blogs&recaps of this novela..please keep up the good work..plese!

Variopinta,

YOu can catch 20/20 episodes and segments on the abc.com website. Just type in 20/20 in the search field and they will bring up the most current dates. I caught one a few months back by doing that. Or you can go to Hulu and see the latest episode too.
Always have to wait a day for the episodes to show up.

You can also catch El Hotel on Hulu too.

I keep thinking Felipe is somehow going to be really a pivotal character at some point in this story...not just being the side show for us. I realize it's thought he's the ONLY son, but would be funny if Isa bails on the inheritance, it goes to Felipe who wants no part of running it and HE'S the one who gives it Andres. He's got to be turning up back at the ranch for some decent plot development.

Tks Daisnyay
I thought I had a better chance of finding 20/20 than El Hotel. For some reason Uni & Comcast don't get along, probably Time Warner. I don't have any of the extras, Hulu, Netflix, I just don't think I would get enough use from it.
Telemundo is great, they want you to see their novelas.

Variopinta- Well, except for Fatmagul. Tmundo has been horrible about that one.

Thanks Princess Juju...and so glad you scored the tickets. And welcome Veronica. The recappers work hard, so it's nice to know when people are actually reading the resumen they took the time and trouble to write.

Theresa is dreadful but I do love her insults to Arturo's equally dreadful snob of a mother. When the latter was boasting about breast-feeding her child, Teresa sneered "Se nota" indicating those sadly droopy breasts were a dead give-away. Not that I believe that is the result of nursing kids, but still...it was a great insult.

Totally on board for the Ayala-Matilde romance. For me, he's the sexiest guy in the story, thanks to his intelligence and great sense of humor.

So bring it on! And enjoy the concert Princess.

Thank you Juju! You hit all the important points of the episode.

I'm not a fan of Belen but she got Angela right between the eyes when she accused Angie of making Andres a slave to his half siblings. Ouch! And knowing Belen she's gonna twist this story enough for when Andres wakes up (?) to make Angie look like a real villian.

Good on Doc Vic for setting Isa straight. For her to think being married to Diego would only require "companionship" and he would not demand his husbandly "rights" after all his done for her is so naive of her. Especially since she now KNOWS exactly what those "rights" entail. On top of that not considering the mortal danger she's putting Jules in with her attentions toward him in the Hospital. I'm kind of annoyed with her.

Diego is such egotist, I doubt he would even think that Isa would lose her virginity to a mere servant. As someone said, she needs to say it happened while away at school.

Gracias, Princess Juju.

I think she will say it happened at med school. It's the logical thing to say.

Teresa and Elise will have conniptions over the ladies of the evening in the hotel. That will be very funny.

No surprise about Felipe.

When is Andres going to wake up?

I had a horrible vision of Angela pulling that napkin out from under the lid of that trunk. She'd lose her mind if the baby died.
