Sueño de Amor (SdA) #39. Monday May 2, 2016. This Episode Was Brought To You By Lala Cheese, Salty Tears, Morning Sickness And Poisoned Juice.

At a glance

-- Shira is La Sombra's sister. She attempts to poison Rodrigo.
-- Kristel is channeling Victoria "The Crier" Ruffo and Julia "The Confused" Gómez Luna.
-- Vicente the estalkerr is still estalkin' and harassing PatoLuca.

A closer look

Ricardo catches Pato’s estalkerr lurking outside Esperanza’s house and demands to know what he’s doing there. “Don’t you know who I am?”, says an indignant Vicente, “I’m the son of Gonzalo Santillana!”. “The Board Director of Instituto Palacios?”, asks Ricardo. “How do you know?”, wonders the obsessed fool. A little unintentional comedy to get us started.

At Casa Guerrero, Esperanza gushes over her date, the coin found in the stupid love vault and the promises contained in the stupid love cassette, namely, eternal love, 2 children and a house with a blue door.

Back at the antro, Erasmo and Pedro are still fighting over Kristel because they both luurve her and, apparently, she luurves them both. Aranza hears this and cries in slow-motion. Pedro gets the snot punched out of him but he still doesn’t regret kissing Kristel. She’s the love of his life and he’ll fight for her. Erasmo tells him that Kristel is disloyal, so she’s all yours, buddy. Hope you’re happy with her. What was the point of this confrontation, then? It’s not like Kristel is worth the trouble. Move on, sexy construction worker. The world is full of confused highschool muñequitas

La Sombra instructs Shira to poison Rodrigo. She protests: it's one thing to go after Ricardo but Rodrigo is a 10-year-old child! An eye for an eye, says La Sombra. He’s going to make Ricardo pay for each finger he lost! Technically, that’s a finger for a child. Not exactly what the Law of Talion dictates. Ricardo will need to hurry up and make more kids with Esperanza to pay for La Sombra's other 3 severed fingers. Meanwhile, an oblivious Ricardo is at home, watching Rodrigo sleep: “You are my champion. Without you and your sister, I can’t live.” Endangering the hijo starts in 3, 2,1...

Back at Casa Guerrero, It’s mother and daughter TMI (too much info) time, sponsored by Lala cheese. Esperanza has lost 20 years worth of besos with that hunk of burning love. Now she’s ready to live and be happy... In about 80 episodes or so.

In the living room of Casa Manzanares, Mario is in his jammies, reliving the lovely tumble he had with Viviana. Margarita arrives in her jammies and hair-rollers, with a glass of milk in hand. Surely, it’s Lala milk. She wonders what is keeping her son-in-law so preoccupied, but he is good at going off on tangents (salirse por la tangente) and suggests they discuss Kristel’s heartbreak.

It’s morning time in Sueñolandia. Esperanza has so much energy, she’s killing everybody in her spinning class. At Casa Gallo, they are having huevos rancheros for breakfast. Happy Days! Erasmo can finally afford tomatoes to make the sauce that accompanies these eggs. At Casa De la Colina, Adrián is rehearsing his role in front of the mirror and bonding with his mother about their innate talent for musical theater. At Casa Alegría, Kracy is nursing a headache. Ricardo tells her she needs to consider moving out. The judge gave her custody and she’ll stay put. If he doesn’t like living in their house, he should be the one to move out. The kids are ready for school and the conversation is postponed.

I made a mistake in an earlier recap. Shira is, in fact, La Sombra’s sister. Iker’s sister works for a nanny agency but she is not the nanny that came to Ricardo’s house. Her agency sent Shira. Not that Osorio ever made the effort to make it clear. Ricardo said he needed a nanny, Iker said his sister works as a nanny and the next thing we knew, Shira showed up at Ric’s door. Hence the earlier confusion. Apologies.

At the building site, Erasmo and Luca are working. Snivelly Kristel comes snivelling to Erasmo. She wants to talk, he wants to take off. He thought that their love would last forever but nothing lasts forever. Nada dura para siempreTodo Tiene Su Final, as Hector Lavoe says. Jerónimo throws salt on the wound: “You betrayed him, muñequita. You hurt him profoundly. You gotta sort out that mess in your heart.” Don’t you have beaches and statues of the Virgin to sing to? Off you go, then! Outside, Vicente is spraypainting Luca’s car with a friendly: “You will die, Luca”.

At Instituto Palacios, before classes start, Ricardo informs Esperanza that he will ask Shira to stay with the kids every night because he can no longer sleep at the house. He’ll have to find new accommodation as close to his kids as possible *Hint, hint*. They say goodbye to Selena and Rodrigo, then they tell each other how much they would like to kiss right at this instant. Unfortunately, there are cameras around and they don’t want to get fired, especially now that Ricardo is starting to like the school so much. The undercover lovebirds get startled by Principal Crazy-Eyes who thinks the physical distance between them is dangerously close. And yes, she is in a bad mood again and will remain so as long as her arch-nemesis Esperanza is at Instituto Palacios.

Félix is screaming like Tarzan because he saw an itsy bitsy spider. Spiders inspire terror (pavor) in him because he is arachnophobic (aracnofóbico). This gives Pamela, Selena and their adorable redhead friend an idea for their next prank (travesura).

At the principal’s office, the crazies are preparing their next travesura as well. Silvana gives Kracy a little pen-camera to record Esperanza and Ricardo in a compromising situation.

An agent called Gilberto Rentería approaches Vicente about Luca’s accusations that he sent him a dead rodent and that he is harassing (acosar) his girlfriend. Vicente denies, denies, denies.

After the end of the school day, Ricardo says goodbye to his kids and explains to them the new living arrangements at their house. Iker calls. He has made important advances in the case of La Sombra.

At Casa De la Colina, Viviana informs Ernesto that she sold the mansion. Everyone has to move out. She receives a call from Mario, who needs female advice to handle the problem of Kristel. He asks her out to dinner. Ernesto is eavesdropping. He is not pleased.

At Supercop Central, it’s “bring your girlfriend to work” day. Ricardo introduces his new novia, Esperanza, to his team. She came along because she worries about his work as an incompetent agent. No worries, says Iker, they are there to fix Ricky’s boo-boos. They discovered that La Sombra has a sister and they have a photo too. It’s Shira, the nanny and, back at Casa Alegría, she is getting ready to poison Rodrigo with juice. Ricardo finds a way of laying the blame on Iker, again: “She is the nanny of my children and she came from the agency that YOU recommended. Later, you and I are gonna talk!” He calls Selena but she doesn’t answer. Oh no! A close shot of an empty juice glass. Yeah, right! Like Osorio is really going to kill off his protagonist’s son. He doesn’t have the guts! Rod is gonna be just fine.

Viviana does not see how her social life concerns Ernesto. Is he upset that she is no longer part of his belongings? Ernesto warns her that Mario is bankrupt (en bancarrota); surely he is after her money. Viviana doesn’t care what Ernesto thinks. Mario is a good man and a good father. Besides, she is the boss of her own life.

Ricardo, Esperanza and Iker are rushing to the kids’ rescue. On the phone, Ricardo instructs Selena to lock her bedroom door. Once at the house, Ricardo finds Rodrigo down on the floor but he is perfectly fine. He was sleeping in Kracy’s room and fell off the bed (but didn’t wake up), then when Ricardo shook him, he still didn’t wake up immediately. Lame Osorio suspense and whatnot. But, really, the kid is fine. Shira is already gone. In a flashback, we see that she knocked the poisoned juice glass off Rodrigo’s hand before he could drink it, then she took off. When she receives a phone call from Max/La Sombra, she throws the phone out of the Uber’s window and tearfully says: “I don’t think we’ll see each other again, brother!”

At Casa Guerrero, Pedro is showing PatoLuca the sketch/outline (boceto) of the school his mom wants. It’s a kindergarten and daycare center (guardería) for single mothers with limited financial means. They are preparing a surprise for Esperanza because Ricado managed to secure financial sponsorship (patrocinio) to get the project started. Luca promise to help out too. Later on, the trio talk about Vicente’s personality transplant. The guy became a murderous psycho over night and this sorta kinda worries them.

Kristel is still boo-hoo-ing, this time to her father. I love them both, boo hoo. I can’t make up my mind, boo hoo. Erasmo doesn’t want to talk to me, boo hoo. He thinks I betrayed him, boo hoo. I am confundida, boo hoo. Instead of telling his daughter to snap out of it already and stop channeling Victoria Ruffo, Mario suggests that she is, in fact, the victim of her own feelings. Oh dear!

Back at Casa Alegría, Ricardo reassures the kids that everything is fine: Shira left because she is moving to another city. He then proceeds to chewing Iker out and even hints that he may be an accomplice of La Sombra. Iker is offended by the insinuation and defends himself: he may have recommended the agency but it was Ricardo who chose Shira out of all the candidates! Oh snap! Ricardo says he didn’t choose anyone! The agency said that Shira was the most qualified and, like a drooling idiot, he went with their pick. Surely La Sombra had the info altered. How can he be this much smarter than them? It’s not that hard, Ricky, you’re all a bunch of inept morons! How can La Sombra have this elaborate network that they can’t control? It is urgent to discover the identity of La Sombra’s children!

At the only antro in Mexico City, Kracy is schlitzed and is shaking her money-maker on the dance floor. Anastasia is there too, looking all embarrassed. Pedro spotted the spectacle from his DJ booth: “What’s Kracy doing here?”

The next morning, the 40-year-old virgin is in bed, hugging his teddy bear and dreaming that he is in a jungle. He hears Esperanza’s seductive voice telling him to come to Momma. Instead he finds himself face-to-face with a giant spider and wakes up terrified. Whatevs!

At Instituto Palacio, Pamela, Selena and Redhead free up three tarantulas in Ricardo’s classroom. In Esperanza’s class, Salma is feeling nauseous and faints. We get it. You’ve been hinting at it for over a week. Salma is pregnant. Can she hurry up and discover it, already?

At Colegio Vasconcelos, Adrián and Estrella are rehearsing. Estrella doesn’t like being cast like the villain. She also can’t stand seeing Salma every day but she has to, in order to keep an eye on her. Adrián reassures Estrella that he loves only her; she drives him crazy. He tries to kiss her but she avoids him. She needs time to get over what happened between him and Salma. There’s not gonna be enough time in the world to get over what’s coming, chiquita. Get the kleenex ready.

At Instituto Palacios, Pato is trying to convince Kristel to go out with Pedro. Vicente sneaks up on Pato with flowers. The bouquet looks nice. Vicente looks craycray. He wants to be with Pato and is prepared to do anything for her. Luca materializes out of nowhere and, faster than you can say “Security!”, there are two grow-a$$ men rolling on the floor and fighting over an underaged highschool girl.

A quote from the capítulo

“Si se interpone la riquilla esa, ¡le tumbo todos los dientes!”*

*Estrella is drawing her claws: “If that little rich girl comes between us, I’ll knock down all her teeth!” Oooh, barracuda!

Hey Patio Pals! Hope you had a great start to your week!

This original story continues to go nowhere. It is neither original nor is it a story. It's just snippets of film being thrown at us without much thought given to coherence, continuity or common sense.

When will Ricardo stop endangering the lives of everyone around him?

When will Kracy do anything besides butchering Spanglish and getting drunk?

When will Kristel stop blubbering?

When will Salma discover that she is pregnant?

When will Vicente and Luca get arrested for sneaking into a highschool and trying to seduce an underaged girl?

Like Pablo said this show no tiene ni pies ni cabeza!

Enjoy the recap and the discussion! Good night :)

By the way, the link for the song "Todo Tiene Su Final" that I shared is Marc Anthony's version. I can't find the original, with Hector Lavoe singing, in a good audio quality.

When Erasmo said "Nada dura para siempre", I started singing this song: "Todo tiene su final. Nada dura para siempre. Tenemos que recordar que no existe eternidad." (Everything has an end. Nothing lasts forever. We have to remember that eternity does not exist.")

Thanks. I am going to say what we all say every day here: The recap is absolutely better than the episode i just watched!

I think I know the reason Erasmo could afford tomatoes for his ''huevous rancherous'': He didn't get the deodorant!

Then the one who is infiltrated in the school to find the shadow's kids is Ricardo, but he orders Iker: You have to find out who are la sombra kids!! Really!

Now, I have an idea to make this mess better for the next 80 episodes:

Let's have a very long flashback with the younger version of Ricardo and Esperanza before the departure, while they were studying to be teachers and all that, then before we see the word FIN, they come back to the present and get married, finally!! No more, finish, that's it!

Thanks, Nandicta for the fun! "She worries about his work as an incompetent agent". Yes!!! Tracy might have been channeling "Victoria 'the Crier', and "Julia the ' Confused," but in her dancing she was clearly channeling Elaine from the old Seinfeld series. What a mess on the dance floor!

Pablo, great flashback idea! LOL

After seeing Vicente skulking at the Guerrero residence why was Ricardo not on the phone to her like immediately?
Takes a brave actress to appear without makeup: love Margarita in her curlers.
"Felixcito" and his nightmare was a hoot.
How long until Salma finds out she is pregnant? I cannot wait for Silvana's reaction. Maybe Estrella will get the lead In the musical after all.
Best advice of the night: the workman at the construction site telling Kristel she has to get things straight in her own head. Duh!

Nandicta, with your excellent sense of humor and superb synopsis, you spun silk.

As always, your vocabulary was an added treat.

"This Episode Was Brought To You By Lala Cheese, Salty Tears, Morning Sickness And Poisoned Juice" and "Snivelly Kristel comes snivelling to Erasmo" were among my favorites.

"Move on, sexy construction worker". Yes. I love my Erasmo but he needs to get a grip. I fail to see what either sees in Kristel but that is beside the point (apparently). We are now stuck with Kristel vacillating between the two when there is absolutely no doubt who the better choice is. Also, frankly, I thought Pedro seemed a bit crazy-eyed when he was speaking to Erasmo. Couldn't tell if it was meant to come off like that or simply overplayed.

I must admit I liked the spider bit and was touched that the young girl (sorry I don't know her name) picked the spider up and put it in the plant.

"There’s not gonna be enough time in the world to get over what’s coming, chiquita. Get the kleenex ready". Yes, Estrella is in for a world of hurt. Perhaps it's best they never really progressed beyond one or two kisses.

Jarifa, thanks for mentioning Kracy's dance sequence reminding you of Elaine/Seinfeld. I laughed out loud recalling her uncoordinated and awkward dancing and comparing it to Kracy.

Pablo, I like your idea! I think you, (Jarifa, Nandicta, Adriana hope I haven't left anyone out) the recappers, should take over the show's writing. Then we would really have some gems to discuss.

thanks so much Nandicta!

Diana

Diana, Pedro was crazy eyed. He didn't seem like himself at all. Weird.

Thanks Jarifa. Pedro did seem a bit possessed and totally unlike himself.

Diana

Thank you Nandicta and also appreciate the Elaine Benes dance move reference. I used to mimic those moves for the delight of all my friends.

"At Supercop Central, it’s “bring your girlfriend to work” day"

I so want Erasmo to move on and will be very disappointed if he takes Kristel back ever. I hope Kristel and Pedro hook up. Torn Between Two Lovers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1F5BLLFAeM

Thanks, Nandicta. It's amazing how y'all consistently make gold out of this mess. Speaking of, I'm pretty sure Sueño de Amor the show is made using the same recipe as Sueño de Amor the ice cream: Take all last week's leftovers, add some technicolor dye and MSG, and chuck it all together in one bucket with no concern for how well it goes together.

Wow; with staff like that, The Only Antro In Mexico City hardly even needs drunk patrons! And Kristel is hardly worth fighting over.

I'm sure the other Supercops are really thrilled with a "secret" agent trying to impress his girlfriend by bringing her to the top secret lair. Way professional, dude.

Luca and Ernesto need to stop being so cheap and buy some power tools. Sawing all those boards by hand?!?! That building is never going to be finished! But at least Erasmo can afford tomatoes AND eggs AND sweet rolls AND orange juice all for the same meal now.

I thought that the information the FBI handles shouldn't be accessed by anyone who is not an agent. That's why when I saw Esperanza there, hearing and seeing confidential data I just had to laugh. She is always concerned about the danger and she want right to the wolf's mouth. I am sure Ricardo took his two kids once too, so there you have it. FBI HQ allow just anybody to enter the premises as long as it is in the company of somebody who works there...

Is this FBI? Interpol? Do we know what agency Ricky works for? Or do they have to be vague because if they associated any real-world crimefighting agency with this bullspit, the production team would all get poison in their Crayola dream cream?

And also I don't think a real agent would EVER let his kids know he was a secret agent. That only puts everyone in more danger. I know a guy whose dad was a spy and he NEVER knew it until his father retired.

Hoala amigoowz! I'm channeling Rodrigo the Russian gringo! Cheers for stopping by!

-- Pablo: "I think I know the reason Erasmo could afford tomatoes for his 'huevous rancherous': He didn't get the deodorant!" Hilarious! :D

Whether Ric works at the FBI or Interpol or the local precinct is moot. He shouldn't be bringing his starry-eyed girlfriend to work. Even at Subway, they wouldn't let your friends and relatives come visit behind the counter. If Ric worked at Subway, Espe will not be allowed back, those long hair strands would land in the meatball marinara or the chopped onions. Nicht gut!

With all due respect, I have an even better (and more drastic) idea to improve this show: Pull the plug! Air whatever drivel you filmed, add a scene of the insipid couples kissing, roll the end credits! The End! :D

-- Jarifa: Thank you for mentioning The Little Kicks! Nobody is a worse dancer than Elaine Benes! Didn't Costanza describes her "dancing" as "A full body dry heave, set to music"? Thanks for the laughs! Kracy wasn't that bad, actually, considering how drunk she was. If I'd ever attempted that head spin with half the amount of alcohol she drank, I'd land flat on my face!

-- Diana: I totally agree with you! Erasmo needs to get a grip and Pedro needs to tone down the crazy! Pretty girls are a dime a dozen but, as our fellow Carayite and wise friend Susanlynn: "Pretty is as pretty does". An ex-boyfriend used to tell me: "The world is full of babes but a kind heart and a sparkly personality are hard to come by." Personality and kindness trump good looks in my book. However, Pedro and Erasmo are too young (and too horny) to see past the nice legs and pretty face.

Give any one on this Patio a blank piece of paper, pencil and 5 minutes and they will come up with a way better story than "Nightmare of Love". Anybody out there, above the age of 15 and with zero experience in writing and/or producing TNs, is guaranteed to do a better job than Juabbly Juan Osorio!

-- Tofie: The Little Kicks are always a party favorite, aren't they? :D
Thanks for the lovely song. I never heard it before. And yes, I really hope Kristel gets together with Pedro, so she can be disappointed!

-- Julia: "I'm pretty sure Sueño de Amor the show is made using the same recipe as Sueño de Amor the ice cream: Take all last week's leftovers, add some technicolor dye and MSG, and chuck it all together in one bucket with no concern for how well it goes together." Spot on! A million times yes! This and your analogy of an international potluck dinner at the students' hall of residence, at the beginning of the school year, are the best ways to describe this messy messed up mess! :D

Good night, everyone! I'm drained and not in the mood to watch Nightmare of Love tonight. Will see it tomorrow morning and post a discussion page with a few bullet points! ¡Hasta luego!

-- Julia: Oh I forgot one thing. I think I know why "Erasmo can afford tomatoes AND eggs AND sweet rolls AND orange juice all for the same meal now." He dropped the unlimited "Talk to Your Muñequita 24/7" price plan from Vodafone. He probably returned his smartphone too. That freed up vital financial resources for food and sustenance.

Night night! :)

Hey guys, I have a short summary ready for the Tuesday episode, I just have something to do for the next two hours, then I'll format it and post the discussion page. Sorry for the delay. :)

OT:
I will remove a sin in Juan Horrorio's list (or should I say Irrisorio?) because thanks to him, and then the Carayita who made the connection between the two, I finally watched Gindergarten Cop.

Is got all the elements, only the movie is infinitely well done.

When I saw Henry's clumsiness the stooges came to mind, and I felt sorry for them, because here, the scene was genuinely funny. This is proof that you need professionals to do the casting, the writing and the acting. The movie could be old, but it is very funny and I am sure it will always be.

Thank you, Pablo. I've never seen "Kindergarten Cop" but your assessment has piqued my interest. I'll try to get my hands on a copy of the movie. That must've been one heck of a "brain"-storming session to come up with the "original" story of SdA: "Kindergarten Cop", Korean dramas, Gangnam Style, every imaginable health PSA, PEAM, MCET, My Little Pony, Juno, etc. etc.

Add "La familia peluche" and "La rosa de Guadalupe"
