General...

Ximena Duque, in her first English speaking role, will debut tomorrow (June 7) on NBC's "Days Of Our Lives" as Blanca.

interesting that she mentioned that doing telenovelas in Miami they would do 20 scenes a day, which won't be as many on this one.

¿Quién es Quién?

Is anyone else watching this? I wanted to watch a more light-hearted comedy to balance out the drama and sadness of La Esclava Blanca, and I'm enjoying it so far. I binge-watched 47 episodes already and have learned lots and lots of slang! Eugenio Siller does a good job of playing two different characters, plus getting to see him in twice as many scenes compared to his other TNs is a nice bonus.

¿Quién es Quién?

J- I was watching this until it went to 2 hours a day, I liked it, and may catch up later.

it is being recapped here, (they are current with what is being shown on telemundo daytime and up to 80)

EVA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

Marlene tries to tell Armando she put the money in the Cayman Islands account to protect him from himself. In unison, Armando and I say: ¡Ay, por favor! He tells her he removed her from being able to sign checks. When she reminds him of what she could do to him, he tells her he’s not buying her threats any more. He’s not afraid to go to jail. And, furthermore, if he falls, she falls with him. And, what he’s not going to do any more is pretend that she appeals to him. He’s fed up with her and plans to stay in the Guest Room.

JJ explains to Marisol how he ended up with his “problem”. He used to think of her as a warrior. But then something changed when he found out about the abuse. He began to feel tenderness and to care for her. They do end up making love.

Nothing comes of Diego telling Pablo about Dr. Ana grilling him about Eva, even though on Friday they gave Pablo an astonished look. Red herring.

Armando comes to Casa Furias to talk with Adriana about being a partner in Mon-Sol. He tells her she’s his heir, and he wants to fix his mistakes.

Marta comes in to work in a very elegant dress. Virginia notices. Marta coyly hints at a man in her life that will be a big surprise. After she leaves the room, Virginia gets the best line of the night: ¡Otra que cayó en la ratonera y todavía cree que va a llevar el queso! [Another one who got caught in the mousetrap and still thinks she’ll get away with the cheese.]

La Alacrana comes into Armando’s office while Marta is laying out his breakfast. This does not go over well. Marlene goes into full nasty and tells Marta her dress is inappropriate for a mere secretary and that her perfume is cheap.

Andy shows up to ask Cinthia and Robert for $100,000 for arranging Pancho’s death.

We don’t see a church service, but a priest at a cemetery where they are burying Betty. Eva shows up to speak to the deceased, saying she’s sorry if she caused her pain. And that she, Eva, forgives Betty.

Silva has been called to Armando’s office and is speaking to Adriana. Armando goes on to say that Adri will be a partner, and that she is the only one permitted to withdraw money from the company. La Alacrana storms in saying she forbids this. She says it would be like letting Eva set foot in a place that is hers alone. Armando says he has the right. Marlene thinks the document they signed (some sort of pre-nup?) giving her half the proceeds gives her the right to deny Armando adding a partner. Silva sets her straight. Armando is still the majority stockholder.

When Marlene laughs saying Adri has no money, Armando responds that he put money into an account that Adri will use to buy her share. He goes on to tell her she shouldn’t worry. He didn’t take this money from the company; he used his own, unlike Marlene who has an account in her name in the Caymans with Mon-Sol’s money in it! He turns to Silve and says: “This is stealing, isn’t it?” La Alacrana insults Eva. Adriana replies that her mother made it on her own, not by taking it from others. She also calls her a criminal. Marlene raises her hand to slap. Armando grabs her arm and tells her that, if she hits his daughter, it will be the last thing she ever does.

EVA – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

Eva offers Pablo her sympathy and turns to leaves. He catches up with her and is quite hostile. He says something about her wanting to be a “protagonist”. I guess this means he thinks she came to be the center of attention. He says the wedding is private, only for family. [But Dr. Ana is there, idiot.] I am now officially rooting for Rey.

Esteban can’t keep quiet. He tells Soraya he can’t understand why she’s chummy with the Monteverdes when Pancho isn’t even cold in his grave. Soraya sets him straight.

After completely losing the battle, Marlene comes out and spitefully tells Marta she is no longer permitted to bring food to her husband.

When Armando tells Adri he wants his family back, Adriana tells him he’ll always have her and Fabiola, but her mother no longer loves him. He insists that, even if she doesn’t know it, she still does love him.

In the nursery we get a sort of Shakespearean monologue from Dr. Ana. She tells Ceceilia that she’s not a person who does bad things. She can’t even believe what she did regarding the letter. She at first read it accidentally. But she doesn’t want to give it to Eva because Eva loves Pablo and she herself loves him. “Could it be I’m doing wrong? That I should give the letter to Eva? But that would be opening the door and giving Pablo to Eva. Why does it have to be her? I’m younger? I don’t have children of my own.” To Cecelia: “Wouldn’t you like to have me as your mother?”

Rey and Federica have come to see Pablo to ask him to be Fede’s lawyer with regard to getting back her money and properties. He agrees, and then says the first thing they need to do is pay a visit to Maribel, the company.

Robert asks Soraya to lend him $100K. He makes up some crap about his life being in danger because of some guys he knows, nothing illegal, mind you. [Wow! He wants money to pay off the man who arranged to kill her husband.] Soraya has a secret smile for Viewerville. I think she suspects what the money is for and that this could make the trap snap shut.

Eva

novelera, another wonderful recap!

did anyone bother to bury Betty, seems like everyone just left.

I find Rey creepy, I'm going with Juanita's observation of the intro, Eva walks past both Armando and Pablo to stand alone.

love the way Andy calls Robert, Monti, who's reasoning is beyond Andy's pea brain, just give me the money.

I love Soraya, what a wonderful person, she makes me smile too!

and Virginia is so cool floating around the Mon-Sol office.

oh and was it Eva that asked JJ to check out Alberto, this should be interesting.

Esclava

I have a meeting Tuesday night and won't be able to do a recap.

Eva

Another marvellous recap, novelera! Thanks so much. And special thanks for the Spanish.

I was surprised that Pablo was so hostile to Eva at the cemetary, especially after Diego had spilled the beans about Doctora SweetFace grilling him about Eva. Over and over again during this telenovela, I've found myself annoyed with/fed up with Pablo, and needless to say that's how I feel now. The theme song video has been played every night lately, and I'm becoming increasingly convinced that it's telling us that Eva will choose to be independent at the end, leaving behind both Armando and Pablo. As for Rey, I find him attractive in many ways, but I doubt that he and Eva will be together at the end. I'm content with an independent Eva; I just hope that Doctora SweetFace won't succeed with Pablo.

Wow! Robert Monteverde gives chutzpah a bad name. Like you, I saw Soraya's "secret smile" and am hoping that means that she's fully aware of what he's doing and that he's falling into her trap. I doubt that will happen on my watch tonight, but I can hope.

Eva. Excellent recap, novelera. I especially liked "Armanod and I say ¡Ay, por favor!" The sweetest most appealing part of this episode for me was the encounter between Marisol and JJ, when he said that after he learned about her childhood abuse how he came to see her as sensitive and delicate and needing his care and protection. (very old-fashioned latino male thinking, but his love seems totally sincere.) I'm also glad that his "performance" problems have been resolved. Of course the next morning he followed up those tender moments with that remark about how "I'm a stray dog and want you to take me in." Ever eccentric! But, hey, he makes a mean breakfast! Pablo is acting like a jerk, but I believe Eva has said more than once that his extreme upset about Betty's death may be because it brings up memories of the death of his first wife--ptsd, in other words.

Eva. Armando

Eva

I take back what I said about Rey. I was just venting about Pablo's ridiculous behavior graveside. Eva wasn't even going to speak to him, just saying something to the corpse - rather common behavior in telenovelas. He was the one who approached her and quite nastily. She behaved with complete dignity. Rey is not my dream galán. He's not bad looking, but I just don't see him as strong enough to be Eva's partner.

I didn't take time to elaborate, but JJ is SO off base so much of the time. One good "performance" and he's ready to move into Marisol's nice digs. He made a comment about how nice the place was. I'm sure they'll end up together, but his timing is awful.

Juanita, loved Doctora SweetFace. Conflicted she may be, but she behaves in classic other woman in a telenovela fashion, more than willing to do some dirty tricks to get the guy who does not love her.

Esclava

I binge watched up to current over the weekend. Wow! This is a terrific telenovela! Such fine performances by all. It's riveting! I wonder if they're going to complete the arc and have Colombia legally prohibit slavery as part of the story line. It's not that long of a novela, which I always like. I thought about looking up when Colombia abolished slavery, but would prefer to just watch the novela without the facts!

La Esclava Blanca – Monday, June 6 – Capítulo 33, part 1/3

Felipe and Catalina say goodbye to the freed slaves, looking around nervously to make sure no one sees them. They hide in Angela’s carriage, along with something else that is quickly covered.

Milagros convinces Julian to stop guarding the pit to go eat something. She covers his eyes and leads him to a picnic she had set up nearby. Victoria lowers herself down into the pit. She and Miguel kiss.

Gabriel is not happy that no one is doing anything, or not enough, to help Miguel or the slaves, including Manuela and Jesus. Manuela reminds him that este mundo es injusto para los que no nacimos con tu color de piel (this world is unjust for those who were not born with your skin color). If they stay quiet, it’s only to stay alive. Manuela leaves and Gabriel admits he shouldn’t have talked to her like that. Jesus tells him that it’s hard for her because their mother was white and bocona (boastful/big-mouthed) who always spoke up about injustice, and her own father beat her to death for marrying a black man and having kids with him. Jesus knows that Gabriel genuinely wants to help them, pero por más que quieras ponerte en nuestros zapatos, jamás va a saber lo que es crecer con el color de piel oscura en esta tierra (but as much as you want to put yourself in our shoes, you will never know what it’s like to grow up with dark skin in this land).

Gabriel catches up with Manuela to apologize to her. She admits they are both parias (outcasts) but wants to make sure he knows that hay maneras de encajar en el mundo sin tener que darse golpes contra él (there are ways to fit in the world without having to strike against it). She softens a bit and calls him valiente (courageous/brave) for testifying on Miguel’s behalf. She brings up Isabel but then she says she doesn’t want to talk about her. She asks if he is planning to echar raíces acá (settle down here) and he responds possibly. She leans in closer, they kiss, and as she gets up to leave saying feliz noche (good night), Gabriel pulls her closer and they go into the bedroom.

Julian tells his family history to Milagros. His family was killed and he had been on his own since he was 13. He had to work to survive and Nicolas and Morales taught him all he knows. Milagros tells him he can do more than serve others.

In the pit, Miguel notices the bruise on Victoria’s face and gets angry that he hit her. Victoria says not to worry, she will kill him before he touches her again. Miguel wants to get out of the pit to kill him first. She tries to calm him down, and tells him that Isabel is also being punished for being on his side. Miguel is angry at himself for being so ciego (blind) and defending ese desgraciado, mentiroso, manipulador (that bastard, liar, manipulator). Victoria says neither one of them are murderers and they need to focus on escaping with as many slaves as they can. Miguel shows her the hole leading to the cave next to the pit.

Gabriel and Manuela are in bed. He tells her about his past in the army and why he deserted (he couldn’t take the guilt of having to shoot a man). He worries that Jesus will get angry that he’s with her. No, she says, they made a pact. Cada quién hace lo qui quiere con su vida y respeta lo que el otro haga on la suya (each one does what they want with their life and respects what the other does with theirs).

Victoria wants to go into the gruta (cave) to see where it leads. Miguel doesn’t think anyone else knows about it, but they aren’t sure why it was built in the first place.

La Esclava Blanca – Monday, June 6 – Capítulo 33, part 2/3

Julian is being sweet with Milagros, saying she is a great cook and that he could cook for her too. She asks him to help pick up everything and he says of course. While Victoria is tending to Miguel’s wounds, Milagros starts screaming about un chimbilá (Colombian Spanish for bat – murciélago), which is the signal that Victoria needs to get out of the pit. She manages to flee and Julian doesn’t see her or suspect anything. (He seems more smitten with Milagros than anything!) Milagros locks her back into her room.

Hilaria wakes up Adela the next morning. She’s quite out of it and doesn’t want cognac or relaxing baths again. Hilaria assures her that Victoria and Isabel are still locked up.

Damian is told by a slave to go outside quickly. The slaves are all standing there, and he sees something that scares him. Who did this? he keeps yelling, but no one says anything. He rushes away on horseback, falls off, draws his gun, and yells to the trees that they won’t do to him what they did to Lopez.

Adela is imploring Isabel to eat. She can even leave her room; Adela doesn’t care if Nicolas will get mad. She just wants her to eat so she doesn’t get sick. Isabel will not do anything until Miguel is treated as a member of the family. Sobre mi cadaver (over my dead body), Adela threatens. O sobre el mío (or mine), responds Isabel.

Eugenia reads a notice that says se pagará la injusticia, los asesinos racistas saldrán a la luz (justice will be paid, the racist murderers will come to light/be revealed). Nicolas calls it pura basura (pure garbage), but Bunme says everyone in Santa Marta saw it since it was pasted in various places. Nicolas leaves even though Eugenia wants him to stay and talk. Bunme tells her told you so.

Asesino (murderer) was painted on Francisco’s house and he is pissed. The only slave who will talk is Marcos and he says it happened while they were sleeping. Francisco punches him in the stomach, and when Ana tries to stop him, he slaps her and yells at her for undermining his authority. Kuno yells at Marcos to clean the wall. Another slave asks Kuno why he acts like he’s one of them when he is just as much a slave as them. He claims they are not equal because he is la mano de derecha del amo (the slaveowner’s right-hand man), to which Marcos says una mano que puede cortar cuando se le de la gana (a hand that he can cut off when he wants).

Outside at El Eden, Adela sees what’s painted on the doors (los asesinos pagarán – the murderers will pay). Milagros mentions they were all locked inside on her orders so no one saw or heard anything. Julian asks Tomas to please clean everything before Nicolas comes home. Milagros tells him it’s not his fault; he couldn’t have been in two places at once since he was guarding the pit. Julian doesn’t believe Nicolas will think that.

Adela is scared. She finally lets Victoria out because she claims to be really sorry and only wants to help. Victoria asks Tomas who did it, and he says la causa and that this is only the beginning.

Isaias brings breakfast to Felipe and Catalina. He starts going back to the kitchen and Catalina tells her to eat with them. Felipe reminds him there are no slaves in this house; he works for them which is very different. Catalina sets him a place at the table. They talk about painting the haciendas, and Felipe thinks they should change strategies to draw the murderers out. El miedo empieza a sacar a las ratas de sus nidos (Fear starts to bring rats out of their nests).

Nicolas and Damian arrive at Francisco’s. They notice Ana has a sling on her arm, but she doesn’t answer what happened to her. Francisco arrives and sends her to her room.

Victoria fights with Adela and takes the keys to unlock Isabel’s room. She still won’t eat anything until Miguel is safe and recognized as her brother. Victoria tells her that hurting herself won’t help. Adela stands outside the room looking sad.

La Esclava Blanca – Monday, June 6 – Capítulo 33, part 3/3

Damian and Francisco wonder if Jaime had something to do with the signs. Nicolas assures them that he didn’t, and neither did Miguel since he’s been punished and is still in the pit. (We see Miguel covering up the hole to the cave.) Damian gets scared that it’s the slaves. Ana is listening to them, but they don’t know. Nicolas tells them they can’t leave or they will be seen as guilty. Francisco says they will just have to go back to hunting slaves like before. Ana gets even more scared and walks away unnoticed.

Finally Adela tells Victoria she needs her help with Isabel. Victoria has an idea but it would mean leaving the hacienda. Adela is against it at first because Nicolas forbid everyone from leaving, but Victoria replies that he is not there and they don’t a man to tell what they have to do.

Victoria arrives at the inn and tells Jesus she needs to talk to Gabriel (who is in bed with Manuela). He agrees to go with her to convince Isabel to eat. Manuela walks up to the door, not afraid to let Victoria see her there too.

In church, the padre talks about the messages painted on the houses, saying it cannot happen again because it deteriorates life there. Angela interrupts him saying it’s alcahuetería (pandering?), and the slaves boo him when he says they should pay no attention to the signs.

Gabriel and Victoria talk about things changing, and Gabriel says it’s the beginning of the revuelta (riot). Gabriel doesn’t think she knows what war is about, but she says she does and it made her lose everything she loves. She is for extreme measures if it ends the abuse. Gabriel seems perplexed that the Marquesa thinks that way, but he follows her.

Nicolas is convinced the freed slaves are behind the messages. Even the General agrees with Francisco and Damian that they need to have a firm hand on the situation so nothing else happens. Alonso of course thinks the opposite – they can’t keep doing what they did before. Other places are changing, slaves are becoming workers with wages. Nicolas thinks he doesn’t understand slavery since Alonso doesn’t own his own land, and has little to lose.

An altar boy arrives and they all go talk to the padre, who is afraid for his life since the slaves interrupted his sermon and threw hats and shoes at him. Nicolas believes that Felipe is behind all of it rather than the slaves.

Angela is covering up the pots pf red paint in her carriage (from the beginning of the episode), and tells the driver to take it far away.

La Esclava Blanca

Just to clarify, Miguel is mad that Nicolas hit Victoria. Sorry about the ambiguous 'he'!

Deb, I can probably do a recap for Tuesday's episode.

Novelera, it is pretty great, isn't it? I can't believe we're already halfway through the episodes!

Eva. I don't know, novelera. Regarding Marisol and JJ, there's something to be said for selecting a guy who keeps you entertained--and I'm not just talking about physical "performance." :)

Esclava,

thanks ever so much J, you do such nice recaps, and lots of Spanish!

so when Victoria climbs down the rope into the pit, it breaks or comes untied and falls in the pit as well and then they argue about killing Nicolas, I thought they would get busted for sure, luckily Miguel could push her up high enough she could climb out, followed by the rope that he threw out. (Victoria's plans are always missing a few parts)

Milagros and Julian were getting real cozy but Milagros kind of ended that rather abruptly after Victoria was out of the pit.

that Nicolas is just too smart.

(that would be great if you would like to do the recap tonight, if no one else wants to)

Esclava: Thanks for the recap. Novelera, yippee, I am happy you joined us. I hope if they start hunting slaves again these rats get caught. Uff, I can not stand these "owners" rotten human beings. Victoria is smart and brave despite the time she's living in. It is true love since Miguel has been in that hole a few days, no bathing and teeth brushing but Victoria kissed him, lol
Romy

Esclava

J, thanks so much for another splendid recap. Every one you've done has been terrific, and for me they're a lifesaver, since I find this telenovela surprisingly difficult. Needless to say, I'm delighted that you continue to include so much Spanish.

I too thought that Miguel and Victoria would be caught. I also thought Victoria would be trapped down in the pit, since the rope broke. I still am puzzled by how Miguel was able to get her out. I thought the distance was too great to permit him to boost her up on his shoulders, but apparently I was wrong.

One of the things I'm finding most interesting about this novela is the range of views we see among people of all races and situations. And I love it that Isabel feels so strongly about Miguel as her brother. Perhaps no one in the novela has changed as much as she has.

Juanita: My thoughts on "Esclava", the hypocrisy of the so-called Christians claiming to be religious, but trash their slaves & using racial slurs at them makes me sick!

How did Isabel find out about Miguel being her brother ?

Esclava

Steve, I think Nicolas told Isabel and her grandmother that he was Miguel's father, and that a slave woman named Sara was Miguel's mother. He only admitted this fairly recently.

Esclava Blanca

You're very welcome for the recaps! This TN is also difficult for me for understand sometimes (thank goodness for CCs), and I usually get a little lost/tired by the last ten minutes or so. It's nice to learn new words and phrases with all the different accents, even if they are sad words that I hope to never use in real life (such as the words for lashing/whipping).

Totally agree with you Steve! The hypocrisy is so frustrating. Isabel learned that Miguel was her brother in episode 30, when Nicolas announced it to everyone (including Adela and all the slaves).

Telemundo

Interesting info about La Doña, deb. I might check that one out. The plot is interesting and I'm liking Danna Paola in Quien es Quien (still can't believe she's only 20!)

Have they announced air dates for any of the new TNs yet? Or at least what is going to follow the current ones? I'm also interested in checking out Silvana Sin Lana because of Carlos Ponce.

Eva

The recap of tonight's episode will be up tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

Marlene is in her office when Elsa and Javier come in. "We've brought you a check for the money we've borrowed (tomamos prestado). We'll give you the rest soon." Marlene tells them she wants the rest of the money in three days. And they'd better make sure they don't leave.

Adri asks Eva about Armando's asking her to be a partner in Mon-Sol. Eva tells her he's looking for forgiveness. "Will you forgive him?" Adri asks. Well, says Eva, she might be able to overlook all those times when he was unfaithful to her, but she can't forgive him for the deaths of her sister and her niece.

Soraya is moving ahead with her venganza against the Monteverdes. Robert has come to ask her for $100,000 to pay off a debt. Soraya expresses her sorrow at seeing him in such need. She tells him that she trusts her friends, and so she will trust him. She starts to write a check, tears it up, then starts to write a new one. The phone rings--by arrangement. At Soraya's request, Eva has phoned. She stops writing the check and apologizes to Robert, saying she has to leave. She starts to walk out the door. Robert can barely control himself. "But but but," he stammers, "what about the loan?" "Oh," Soraya replies, "I've decided to regard the phone call as a signal that I should wait. Panchopan isn't really in a position right now to make such large loans." She hurries out the door. Robert then notices that Soraya has left on the table the check she started to write. He hesitates for a fraction of a second before pocketing it.

Soon afterward, we see Robert handing over several large piles of cash to Andy. "Here it is, $100,000. Account paid" (cuenta saldada). After Robert leaves, Andy thinks out loud, "With this money, Camila, you and I can start a new life."

Back at Mon-Sol, Javier sees Armando flirt with Marta and pat her on her rear. Of course, Javier immediately goes to find Elsa: "I have to tell you something important. Something that will put us back in Señora Palacios' good graces" (Tengo que contarte algo importante. Algo que nos regresara al favor de la señora Palacios).

Elsa immediately goes to inform Marlene. "Your husband has a lover!" she announces. "Wow, what news" (Mira que novedad) replies Marlene sarcastically. "My husband has a thing for the women (las viejas). He loves to have sex with sluts who do table dances" (Le encanta revolcarse con las pirujas de la table dance). Elsa replies that the woman in question is someone close; she's no piruja and there's no table dance. Marlene pauses and then says "Marta!" When Elsa confirms that she's right, Marlene is very upset. "Armando was unfaithful to me in front of everyone." She orders Elsa to leave. As Elsa leaves, Marlene calls after her, "Don't think that what you've told me will give you a discount on returning what you stole." She then calls Rebeca. "It's urgent that I speak with you."

Federica, accompanied by Pablo and Rey, comes to her old company. She wants to meet with the management (la directiva). She's told that she can have an appointment the next day, but she insists that she wants to have that meeting now. The meeting takes place, and Pablo as her lawyer explains the situation that Viewerville already knows: Federica's son Sebastian did not die accidentally, he was murdered by Leila, who has now been arrested and is awaiting trial. Pablo produces the notarized documents Sebastian had drawn up right before his death giving everything to Federica. Federica announces that, as the major stockholder and in full possession of her faculties, she names Reynaldo Santa Cruz to be president of the company.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

Soraya has left Robert abruptly to go to Eva's, supposedly to help with sudden complications involving the wedding of Luis and Adri, but actually to recount to Eva how well her venganza plan is proceeding. "Creepy Robert is so arrogant" (El baboso es tan soberbio). "He thinks he's a Hollywood galan and that I've fallen for him." She calls the bank and tells them that no, she didn't authorize the check. The check was stolen. She insists that she wants her money restored or she'll call her lawyer.

Armando and Evencio are chatting. Evencio warns him about drinking too much. Armando says he likes his drink, but his real vice is women. "I love Eva, she's the love of my life, but...." His phone rings, and he lights up as he talks to the woman who has called, almost surely Marta, though he doesn't mention her name. He arranges to meet her later. He observes to Evencio that the relationship isn't likely to last long, but....

Camila has evidently gone to pick up Fabi at school. She and Fabi pass Esteban and they stop to talk. It's clear that Esteban is interested in her, and he asks whether she'd like to go to the movies with him that evening. She says yes. A few minutes later, however, she receives a text message from Andy asking her to come to his place. She asks Esteban whether they can postpone the movies until another day.

The scene shifts to Marisol's apartment. She enters and finds the path from the door into the living room strewn with flowers, and there are also lots of candles, a card saying Bienvenida, and a card further on saying "I'm a poor dog in love. Do you want to adopt me?" (Soy un pobre perro enamorado. ¿Quieres adoptarme?). Then JJ appears in a formal suit and bowtie. It works.

At first it seems that the scene with Marisol and JJ is followed by more happiness. We see Marta getting into her car, smiling as she prepares to go meet Armando. But suddenly up pops Rebeca from the back seat. She holds a knife to the terrified Marta's throat and orders her to drive where she tells her.

Robert, too, is momentarily happy. He wants to toast with Cinthia to celebrate his success in sweet-talking Soraya to lend him the $100,000 that he needed to pay off Andy. Cinthia isn't so pleased. "Did you sleep with her?" she asks. He barely has time to reassure her when a policeman arrives to arrest him for robbery. In spite of Robert's protesting that Soraya gave him the money voluntarily and that he's "an honorable man," the officer takes him off to the station in handcuffs.

Camila arrives near Andy's apartment when she gets another text message from him, this one telling her that he has problems and she should not come to his place. She's then startled to see Rebeca get out of a car in front of Andy's building and enter with another woman, whom Rebeca has at knife-point.
Camila considers the strong possibility that Rebeca and Andy know each other.

Meanwhile, Armando is pacing the floor, wondering where Marta is. She was supposed to meet him, but she hasn't arrived and isn't answering her phone. He's worried.

Inside Andy's apartment, an enraged Marlene screams at Marta: "¡Armando es mio!. Marta at first pleads with Marlene not to hurt her, offering to resign and tell nobody what has happened, Marlene remains enraged. She asks Marta whether she was the one who told Armando about the Cayman Islands account, but much of her anger remains focused on Marta's having taken her man. Finally, Marta blurts out, "Armando detests you! He can't stand you in bed. That's why he slept with me, he was looking for a little affection" (Armando te detesta. No te soporta en la cama. Por eso se acostó conmigo. Está buscando un poquito de afecto). In response, the furious Marlene stabs Marta two or three times, killing her.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

Marlene seens stunned by what she has done. "Did I kill her? I'm not an assassin!" Andy tells her that yes, she's an assassin and she'd better get used to that fact. Rebeca assures her that the first murder is always the hardest. Andy wants to leave, but Marlene pleads with him not to desert her. Rebeca advises that they wait until it's dark and then put the body into the car and send it into the sea. When Marta's phone rings with another worried call from Armando, Rebeca recommends removing the battery from the phone and burying the phone with Marta. End of problem.

Meanwhile, Camila phones Esteban and asks him to meet her outside Andy's apartment building. He does so, and asks why she's there. "I came to say goodbye to Andy." A puzzled Esteban asks whether this was why she backed out of going to the movies with him. She tells him that she has to find out whether Andy is involved with Rebeca, so she can stop feeling anything for him. She has to know whether he's the desgraciado that everyone has told her he is.

Speaking of desgraciado/as, Doctora SweetFace meets Pablo at the hospital and tells him that Cecilia is doing even better than expected and will soon be able to go home. Dra SF asks whether Pablo has arranged his house to prepare for her arrival. He says he hasn't yet done so, and SF then gives him a baby gift. He tells SF that she's a very special person.

Back at Soraya's, Soraya and Adri enter to find Cinthia and her lawyer (Silva, of course) waiting. Cinthia pleads with Soraya to "get him out of the carcel." Soraya, with a puzzled look on her face, asks what she's talking about. Soraya does a terrific job of expressing wide-eyed astonishment as Cinthia tells her that Robert has been arrested for stealing Soraya's $100,000. Soraya explains that she had decided that she wasn't able to give him the money and was then called away. "I should have torn up the blank check I had been writing, but I didn't. Oh my, you mean Robert took the money? Had I known, I'd simply have come over to your house to straighten things out and get the money back, I'd not have had the police involved." Then Soraya adds, "Oh Cinthia, how terrible for you. What a shame, when all your acquaintances find out." [I suspect that a large, appreciative cheer went up from Viewerville.]

Esteban and Camila are still watching Andy's apartment building when they see Andy and Rebeca come out carrying what they must surely recognize as a wrapped body, which A & R put in the trunk. Esteban and Camila return to Eva's and tell her that they saw Andy and Rebeca together. Camila says "I think they were going to kill a woman, or they killed a woman." End of episode.

La Esclava Blanca - Tuesday, June 7 - Capítulo 34, part 1/3

Damian is nervous and scared at the pub with Nicolas. They're waiting to hear from Francisco how the redada (raid) went. Damian hopes que esto no se nos salga de las manos (that this doesn't get out of hand/beyond our control). Nicolas is sure they can handle it just like they handled it with their friend Lopez.

The soldiers arrive at Felipe's house with a search warrant. The General seems like he really doesn't want to be there; Felipe is slightly amused because he knows they won't find anything. Francisco sees Isaias and tries to interrogate him but Catalina stops him by asking if he has a written order to question a free man. La tiene? she repeats. (The way Francisco looks at her scares me!) Of course they find nothing and the General makes Francisco apologize for the molestias causadas (incovenience caused) and if he scared Felipe's wife. Felipe corrects him: mi hermana (my sister). Catalina introduces herself and shakes Francisco's hand.

Francisco arrives at the pub and is convinced that the Restrepos did it, de eso no me cae la menor duda (I have no doubt about it). Nicolas notes the plural, and Francisco reveals that Felipe has a sister and that Isaias is also with them. Damian once again thinks everyone will find out what they've done because of stupid Jaime. Nicolas declares that everything is pure speculation and cualquier puente que les lleve hasta nosotros esta roto (any bridge that leads them to us is broken). He wants them to stay united in this, and Francisco proposes that they kill the Restrepos and then the slaves.

Gabriel visits Isabel to try to get her to eat. They hadn't see each other since the trial, when Jaime was found guilty of killing Rosita and trying to kill her brother. No digas sandeces (don't say nonsense), warns Adela who is listening by the door with Hilaria. Gabriel learns that Miguel is her brother and that she's on a hunger strike because her father is punishing him like a slave. Adela tries to stop the visit and throw Gabriel out, but Isabel replies si los sacas, no como (if you throw him out, I'm not eating). Adela marches in. Entonces, come. Ahora mismo. (Then eat, right now). Isabel finally obliges.

Nicolas goes after Francisco. No puedes hacer lo que te de la gana (you can't do whatever you feel like). You can't go against the Restrepos. Francisco is angry that Nicolas thinks he's the big boss of everyone. Francisco makes his own decisions. Damian just wants to run away. Nicolas says they should go after the Restrepo's allies one by one. Tendremos que tener oidos en todas partes (we'll have to have ears everywhere). He claims the slaves will certainly talk for some money.

Marcos and Paca bring food to Ana, who's been in her room for a while without eating. She has information that can be useful to whoever is behind the painted signs. They can trust her; they know she's confided in them before. Francisco comes in and wants to know what they're doing there. Just bringing her food, says Paca. On whose orders, barks Francisco. He slaps Paca and throws them out. He drags Ana out too.

Outside, Francisco threatens the slaves with killing their families and then them if they are involved in the causa. Ana stands nearby, and he drags her back inside.

Victoria tells Milagros, Tomas and Siervo about the corredor (passage) connected to the pit. They didn't know about it. Tomas only knew about tunnels that the indigenous people used to move without being seen, but Victoria doesn't think it's that since está construido por dentro (it was built from inside). She needs to find maps; she'll make peace with Nicolas when he returns. Tomas warns her to be careful. Victoria asks Milagros to get some food to Miguel.

La Esclava Blanca - Tuesday, June 7 - Capítulo 34, part 2/3

In the fields, Marcos talks to another slave about the causa and Kuno is listening... He runs off to tell Francisco since he's so loyal to him like his father and grandfather were. Francisco orders Marcos to the stables where he starts beating him. Marcos is scared and doesn't know why (or at least pretends not to).

Milagros sweet talks Julian to let her give Miguel some food. She tells Miguel about the causa being revived with the help of the Restrepos, but he wonders what advantage they have over the slaveowners. Miguel thinks they should usemos los oidos para hundirlos (use ears to destroy them).

Paca brings tea to Ana. She can hear the screams outside and finds out it's Marcos. Francisco is torturing him, threatening to kill him, calling him a traitor. El traidor es otro (the traitor is another), Marco says, referring to Kuno. Francisco wants to know who's the leader and threatens him with a red-hot branding iron. Marcos caves and tells him it was Miguel who planned everything from the beginning, including the Marquesa's kidnapping. Francisco wants to know about Felipe and who else is involved, but Marcos passes out.

Nicolas finally arrives at El Eden. He's angry that Victoria is out of her room and that his mother let her out. Gabriel is teaching Isabel how to play the piano. Adela looks on smiling. Victoria explains that Gabriel was the only one who could convince Isabel to eat, and look, now she's healthy and happy. In the office, Nicolas is angry at Adela for disobeying his orders, but she doesn't care. She did it to help Isabel. Esa niña es mi vida, pensé que también era la tuya (that girl is my life, I thought she was yours too). Nicolas claims she is, but he can't permitirle cada pataleta o siempre se saldra con la suya (allow every tantrum or she'll always get her way).

Adela knows that Nicolas was with Eugenia and that's she distracting him from his daughter, which should be his priority. Isabel is obsessed with Miguel being treated like her brother, so they need something to occupy her time and her mind so she forgets about him. Adela admits that Gabriel is helpful and it's good for her to spend time with someone closer to her age. Nicolas agrees. Despues de todo, ese muchacho no es un don nadie... es el hijo del general (after all, that kid is not a nobody... he's the son of the general).

Alonso gives good news about their business to Eugenia, but it will mean a higher initial investment. Eugenia agrees, claiming she just needs to move some money around, but then tells Bunme privately that she needs to talk to Nicolas ASAP.

Tomas wants to know where Milagros was. He suspects that she has a crush on Julian, but she makes it clear that there is no man for her. She will always be alone.

Nicolas asks Gabriel to keep giving music lessons to Isabel. She is surprised but happy. She asks about freeing Miguel, but Nicolas says it's not the time to talk about that, but he will think about it since he just wants to make her happy. He invites Gabriel to stay for dinner.

Felipe and Catalina visit Angela at her stall and drink juice with her while talking about how the soldiers found nothing at their house. They need to get Miguel out so he can be their leader again. Angela lets them know the paint is far away and buried underground. As they leave, they don't notice a man in a hat following them...

La Esclava Blanca - Tuesday, June 7 - Capítulo 34, part 3/3

Victoria tells Nicolas that the fights and threats cannot happen again. She feels sorry and ashamed for threatening him with a knife in front of Adela and Isabel. With the signs and threats against El Eden, they need to be more united than ever, and since he gave Isabel what she wanted, she sees the that he is un hombre bueno y justo (a good and fair man). He’s frustrated and hurt that she’s always against him, and he just wants them to live in peace. She says yo también (me too) and he tries to kiss her, but she stops him, saying she can’t because she’s en uno de esos días (euphemism for being on her period). Nicolas just lays his head on her chest instead, and Victoria has a disgusted look on her face.

Back at the market, Felipe talks with some freed slaves, and Catalina continues shopping. He's tired and wants to go home, but she doesn't want to. Llega antes de que oscurezca, sí? (Get home before it gets dark, ok?) The creepy guy in the hat is still watching her...

Ana is freaking out at home. Paca tells her Francisco went back out to the stables to torture Marcos again. Ana can't take it anymore; she wants to go out there but Paca warns that he'll kill her. Ana is tired of being there, of being locked up. She feels likes a slave. Somos unos esclavos de ese cobarde (we are slaves of that coward). But what can a woman like her do? She is not able to stand up to him.

Francisco gets two names out of Marcos: Ruben and Juan. Kuno remarks that they are already both dead. Que conveniente (how convenient). Marcos passes out again.

Tomas tells the slaves that Milagros talked to Miguel. They need to take advantage of what they know about the slaveowners to take them down one by one. They need to regar la bola (spread the word) to the other slaves.

After dinner, Bunme arrives for Nicolas and says Eugenia needs to see him about business. Victoria encourages him to go since it must be important. Adela is annoyed. Esto es el colmo (this is the last straw). She admonishes Victoria for sending Nicolas directly to his lover, but Victoria says their marriage is a mutuo acuerdo (mutual agreement) that no tiene nada que ver con el amor (has nothing to do with love). Adela wonders if Victoria also has a lover, and Victoria tells her to leave. Adela warns her that if she doesn't give Nicolas heirs, their marriage can be declared nulo (void). Adela is sure that Victoria is hiding something and she's going to find out what it is.

Francisco arrives at El Eden looking for Nicolas, but Victoria tells him that he's with Eugenia. Nicolas is angry that Eugenia lied to get him there. She claims she needs a man in the house to protect her from everything that's going on. Nicolas says he needs protection from her. They start kissing and fall on the bed.

Eva. Excellent and very thorough recap, Juanita! I especially loved "Doctor Sweet Face"! Once again I almost--but not quite--feel sorry for Andy. He never should have allied himself with his sister Marlene, but he did, and has done some very despicable things--whether or not he is sincere about wanting to turn his life around. The Marisol/JJ relationship just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter. JJ may be an eccentric techie, but he's an exceptionally loving eccentric techie. I loved seeing Robert being led away in handcuffs--looks as if the 4th villain is going to go down, thanks to Las Furias. Good for Federica, standing up to the board of what is now her company! Rey is probably a decent choice for president, though I don't think we know what the company does. Since he's an architect, if it has anything to do with building or design, he should be great. Next stop should be Pablo's clearing his name from Marlene's framing him. And what a shocker when Marlene stabs Marta! Of course, she has been spiraling out of control lately. Presumably, this is the crime that will finally get her sent away.

Eva

Masterful recap, Juanita! You write so well. This was definitely action packed.

Regarding the murder, that was awful. It was sort of a disturbing night because I also watched last night’s episode of La Esclava Blanca which had some heinous torture in it.

Marlene keeps saying to herself and to Viewerville that she’s going to fix Armando, or eliminate him, or something. But it’s pretty obvious that she has a thing for him and not in a small way. She’s likely incapable of love as most normal people think of it, but she’s certainly more than capable of possessiveness.

Andy SHOULD have walked out and left her. If I'm not mistaken he called Marlene a sociopath. Camila saw him working with the ghastly Rebeca to move a plastic wrapped body out of his apartment. So that romance is SO over.

Notice how Marlene didn’t get involved with any of the cleaning up the apartment and wrapping up poor Marta. She was standing there issuing orders to the others to get every drop of blood up.

I’m also over Doctora Sweetface. Her sucking up to Pablo is getting on my last nerve. He seems oblivious, though. I don’t think he’s twigged to her wanting more than simple friendship.

Soraya, you rock! I loved her protestations of never having reported it to the bank as stolen money had she known that Robert was the one – that they could have worked it out.

Eva

another great recap Juanita!

and we get to see some new faces from Marlene as she struggles with being a killer, she began this story carefully keeping her distance from anything criminal and has slowly spiraled into committing the crimes herself.

interesting that Andy sees Rebeca for the crazed killer that she is and pleads with his sister to not have anything to do with her.

did Armando say he hired Evencio (his only friend) as an advisor, just the fact that Armando always meets with him (an alcoholic) in a bar pretty much says how much Armando cares about others.

but the shocker for me was that Camila really has the goods on all the bad guys, but wait, she didn't take any pictures, she didn't get the license number of Marta's car, and she left before Marlene came out.

Esclava

Thanks so much, J, for another fine recap!

The episode last night was hard to take. The torture was awful. And, of course, Francisco is going to insist that Nicolás either torture or murder or both Miguel now that he’s gotten poor Marcos to name him. But, unless Marcos dies, it appears Francisco wants even more names.

I’m SO worried about Catalina. I love her character! She makes me think of the rock-solid female abolitionists who helped on the Underground Railway in the United States during the slavery era. I also like her paisa accent and the voseo verbs she and Felipe use. They keep mentioning going back to Antioquia, the region in Colombia where those paisa speech patterns are most common.

I hope Milagros can brew up a batch of the Reverse-Viagra soon so that when Victoria’s días are supposedly over, she can avoid sex with Nicolás.

Eugenia doesn’t appear to be as smart as at least I thought she was earlier in the novela. She squandered money before she had it on fancy clothes and bolts of cloth to make more. I don’t think it’s going to be so easy to get money out of Nicolás to give to Alonso for the cacao venture. And, while she appears to be fond of (love??) Bunme, she’s more than willing to basically prostitute her to get what she wants.

I SO hope Ana gets some payback against her husband before this novela is over.

I am enjoying the anti-clerical flavor of this novela. The Mexican and/or US made Latino ones just don’t go there. The priests and nuns are generally saintly. The priest in Santa Marta is a sniveling coward. The Mother Superior in the Spanish convent was a tyrant who was planning to send Victoria to the French Alps to take her vows as a nun (or take them in Spain and then go there) knowing full well, if she had eyes in her head, that Victoria was completely unsuited to being a nun. And, she sold the needlework of Victoria and the other postulants (slaves) for a big profit and gave them almost nothing.

Long comment, but I didn’t catch up until the weekend, so hadn’t said anything before.

Eva

Deb, wow! You always see what I miss. Of course Camila should have taken a cell phone picture of Andy and Rebeca loading a corpse into the trunk of Marta's car!

Eva. deb and novelera: Of course that might have made it too easy to catch Andy and Rebeca and convict them of a crime--at least of accessory after the fact. After all, I believe we have about 30 episodes or so to go. Camila also should have called the police immediately instead of rushing off to Eva's.

Esclava

thanks so much J for doing the recap, I so much love reading them.

so nice to see your comments novelera!

Gabriel is such an all around nice guy he fits in everywhere.

did Julian hear some of Milagros/Miguel conversation?

Marcos giving up Miguel as the leader of the Causa can't be good.

and will somebody just get into that tunnel and start running around, already.

I'm really finding it interesting to look at slavery from so many different viewpoints, the whole institution seems to be promoted by a small group of people, with ties to the government, who profit directly by it, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this whole thing unravels.

I've run into the Christianity thing while reading journals and accounts from this time, and it seems it was the church's policy that only people that had been baptized were considered civilized human beings and all others, natives and such, were savages until they were, (such as in you couldn't marry someone who wasn't, etc, etc.), which justifies the whole slavery thing to begin with.

Eva

Muchas gracias, SpanProf, novelera, and deb for your kind words about the recap and your terrific comments. Yes, novelera, you're right--Marlene didn't do a thing to help clean up or wrap the body. I found myself wondering whether she was trying to avoid leaving fingerprints. I think I thought about that after Andy took the knife from her and I thought, "You dummy! You never learn! Your sister let you stew in the carcel once already, and it's possible that she'll do it again, especially since you (Andy) now have your fingerprints all over the murder weapon." In fact, she could claim that if her prints are found on the knife, it's because she tried to take it away from him.

I agree, SpanProf, Camila should have called the police, but she didn't really know for sure that a crime had been committed until she saw Andy and Rebeca putting Marta's wrapped body into the trunk. By then, it was probably too late for the police to find anything. (And, as you point out, too early in the novela for the baddest bad guys to be caught.)

Excellent point, deb, about Camila's failure to take photos to document what she saw. She certainly knew to do so at the pharmacy. I guess she was just too shocked this time at what she was seeing.

And I LOVED LOVED LOVED Soraya's handling of the check and the baboso.

Esclava

Muchísimas gracias, J, for yet another amazing recap. I'm sorry that I don't have much specific to say about the episode--I was busy recapping Eva and haven't had a chance to watch last night's Esclava. But I continue to be extremely impressed with and grateful for your recaps.

Eva

Juanita, yes, you reminded me about Andy taking the murder weapon from Marlene. That could prove significant going forward. I don't remember if they wrapped up the knife in the same plastic wrap as Marta's body and her cell phone.

Eva

novelera, interesting question. I don't recall the issue of what to do with the knife ever being discussed by any of the three participants.

ESCLAVA-

I got to watch this episode last night. Thank you so much, J, for the fantastic recap!

Even the baptism thing didn't deter the Church from owning and selling enslaved (baptized) people. There was recently a big story on how Georgetown University here in &
DC was saved and financed by the selling off of the university's slaves, even though this went against their beliefs and policies. There's a project to track down the descendents of those slaves. Without them, the university wouldn't exist.

Eva la trailera... epi 92, Wednesday
part 1

Camila tells Eva about seeing Andy and Rebeca together carrying a body to the car, Eva wants a description of the woman, and Virginia recognizes the dress that Marta was wearing.

Cinthia is pleading with Soraya to help get Robert out of jail, Soraya is all help, first thing in the morning, what? Alberto gets Cinthia to leave and Luis wants to know what's going on, but Soraya is playing innocent.

(I guess Luis and Adri are living at Sorayas)

Diego is checking out breast milk on the internet and has lots of questions for Pablo, who tackfully steers him away from what other things breasts are good for, because there are lots of pictures..

the girls want to call Pablo but Eva nixes the idea, she is just not in the mood for that guy, but Virginia calls him anyway on another made up matter to get Marcos' number, Eva knows this will tip Pablo off anyway, and sure enough Pablo and Diego beat Marcos to the house.

Cinthia and Alberto stop by to see Robert, see what happens when you get cocky Cinthia says, and Robert jumps on her, so she turns and asks Alberto nicely for a ride home, and they walk away.

Pablo asks Eva what kind of mess she is in this time but Eva is not talking, but Camila will and does as Marcos arrives, she tells of Andy and Rebeca carrying what looked like a body to the trunk of a car, so Marcos sends a posse over to Andy's.

meanwhile Diego and Fabi chat about his new sister, Fabi tells Eva she wants one (as I watch their hands do their little dances).

Armando waits for Marlene to get home, startles her, wants to know where she has been.

Andy and Rebeca return to his apartment after getting rid of Marta, shark chow she later tells Marlene, Andy is stressed, Rebeca offers a massage, but he throws her out and drinks straight from a bottle, as Rebeca spots the police on their way and tips Andy with phone call, and as the police rush in the front door Andy packs a bag, grabs his phone and keys, leaves down the main hallway to an exit before the police get to his door. (is it like a 10 minute walk to get out of the building?)

Andy calls sis, if I go down you go down he tells her, she sends him to a hotel room, and don't talk to anyone, as Armando walks in on Marlene, and what trouble have the wonder twins gotten into this time he asks, Marlene suggests he go to his new bedroom.

morning,

Soraya meets Cinthia and Robert at the jail, she is all helpful, sure it was just a misunderstanding, agreement all around, just return the money and we'll get you out of here, did we hear a Monteverde gulp,

Marlene stops by to see Andy, he's still whining about her going down too, she slaps him hard, ow, and he punches her, well almost, and Marlene is off to get his passport.

Virginia is at work and Marta didn't show, and in walks Marta's mom, she didn't sleep at home last night, they go to see Armando, and when Virginia calls Eva to report, Eva tells her to get out of there, and grab Marta's file with a photo along the way.

Pablo talks over the case with Martin because he knows they are hiding something, maybe they know whose body it was.

Eva la trailera... epi 92, Wednesday
part 2

Gusano has the best doorway in the office as he sees everything, and grabs Virginia on the way out with Marta's file, and then Elsa gets into it, but Virginia throw her a curve as why is Javier's password, "Chulpitos makes my day?"

now Virginia runs into Armando who wants to know about Marta, my name is not Blanca and ask l'Alacran, throws her badge to the ground and is off.

Camila breaks down with Eva, she wanted to be strong and do her part as a furia and catch Andy, but who is she kidding, she went to see Andy because she was thinking about leaving with him.

(wow, Camila started this story as a walking black cloud ready to take a dive off some high stairs, and drug us through her childhood abuse, found love with the wrong guy, and... I would say the actress has done an outstanding job playing such a conflicted part, as she drags us right along with her)

Pablo shows up at Eva's, she's still not talking, but says he can wait for Virginia, who arrives with Marta's picture, that everyone looks at but Camila, what? ok finally they give it to her, yup, that's the girl, but wait Pablo digs deeper and finds out Virginia has been working undercover at Mon-Sol, and has a fit, Eva is not in the mood.

Armando asks Marlene what she did to Marta.

Cinthia gives a heartbreaking story about how Robert is a gambler and if he didn't pay off his debts they were going to kill him, well maybe not heartbreaking enough, Soraya suggests selling their house, jewelry (or is that fake too), etc. to raise the money (was there a yard sale in there someplace) and walks away, Cinthia wonders if there is any money left in the house after the mortgage, suggests to Robert that he was set up, but he's too vain to see it, as Cinthia is whining about losing everything, even her only son, Robert says that's it, go talk to Luis.

so Pablo takes Cami and Eva down to see Marcos where Cami fills in the rest of the story identifying Marta, but Andy has fled, *ring* *ring*, seeing the horror on Cami's face as she looks at her phone, Eva asks, it's him isn't it? yep, and they get her to answer, Cami is so torn, but does, Andy has to leave and wants her to come, ok, where can we meet, and Cami writes it down, (was it the heartbreak hotel on lonely street) Eva tries to convince her, you did the right thing.

Marcos lets Pablo know how awesome and brave the girls are, Pablo says nothing.

Armando is replaying what Virginia told him and wonders why she called Marlene l'Alacran, only Eva calls her that.

Adri asks Soraya about this innocent thing she is doing, and she explains that if she goes after the Monteverde's head on, Luis will stand up for them, ahh, but enough of this sad stuff, lets go buy a wedding dress.

the police are combing over Andy's apartment, finding traces of blood, and it's no go getting Andy's passport out of the apartment for Marlene.

Marcos shows up at Mon-Sol, it's like the Bermuda Triangle around her he tells Javier and Elsa, the way people go missing, then to Armando who's working on a fresh drink, Marcos knows Marta was his lover, I'd love to help you if I could was Armando's reply, then he pulls in Marlene as well, knowing they own the apartment where Andy was living, and Marlene goes into totally cool mode, are the windows starting to frost up?

Eva la trailera... epi 92, Wednesday
part 3

that's right Pablo, Eva does not need you.

Eva

Wow,deb, I always love your recaps, but this one is one of my favorites. What a delight! I love your seemingly casual phrases that capture so much, such as "Soraya is all help, first thing in the morning, what?" and "Marlene goes into totally cool mode, are the windows starting to frost up?" And also short gems such as "wonder twins" and "shark chow." Perfect! Oh, and the recap's part 3.

Thanks, too, for the translation of "chupitos arrancame suspiritos." I'd been trying unsuccessfully to figure out what it meant.

I too wondered about the police's botched attempt to find Andy in his apartment. The amount of time it took the police to get to his apartment seemed excessive, but even more than that was their announcing "here we come" first with the sirens blaring and then with them making lots of noise in the hallway, signalling to Andy that he'd better get out NOW.

I loved the scene with Diego researching breast milk and investigating other things that breasts could be used for. And also the scene in the morning when Soraya comes to "help" Robert get out of jail. I confess, though, that I'm a little nervous about the effect of Cinthia's approaching Luis for help. Luis can be very astute, but he can also at times be surprisingly naive. And I think he does have feelings for Cinthia.

Eva. Excellent recap, deb. I second everything Juanita says about the stylistic high points. I also liked "I watch their hands do their little dance." Very good analysis as well of the acting chops of the actress playing Camila. Of course the police arrive about five minutes late to arrest Rebeca and Andy. It's what they do--at least in a telenovela. I loved how detective Fajardo admired and praised Eva's and Camila's bravery. He's sort of modeling how Pablo should be reacting--rather than pouting and throwing tantrums. I also enjoyed how Virginia thwarted Javier. You go, girl! Virginia really has become a Furia in the course of this novela--strong, resourceful, and even smarter than she was when we first saw her.

Vivi: Thank you for pointing out the Church's involvement in the slave trade, which was disturbing for me to find out!

La Esclava Blanca – Wednesday, June 8 – Capítulo 35, part 1/3

Francisco complains to Damian about Nicolas spending all his time with Eugenia. He makes it clear that the coming peace will be due to him and not Nicolas.

Creepy hat guy grabs Catalina as she’s arriving home. He drags her by her hair and points a gun at her. Le arrancamos la lengua y las piernas a su hermano (we’ll rip off your brother’s tongue and legs), he threatens, if they don’t leave Santa Marta.

Nicolas is VERY satisfied with Eugenia, and she uses it as an opportunity to ask him to become an associate in the cacao business. He just laughs. Montaste todo esto para proponerme un negocio? (You did all this just to propose a business deal?) No, she loves him. He laughs again. Don’t talk about love. Esa barco ya zarpó (that ship has already sailed). He isn’t interested in becoming a third party in the business, even when she proposes a 70-30 cut. No deal.

Francisco and Damian show up at Eugenia’s for Nicolas. He is not happy. They go to the pub to talk about Miguel and the causa. Francisco points out the Restrepos are definitely supporting Miguel as the leader, but not to worry, he has everything under control. Ya me encargué de eso (I already took care of that). What did you do? Nicolas demands to know.

Felipe opens the door and sees Catalina’s bags on the ground. She is slowly walking up to the house, sobbing.

Nicolas is not happy that Francisco threatened the Restrepos without talking to them about it first. Cuanta menos gente sepa lo que hicimos, menos posibilidades de que nos delaten (the fewer people who know what we did, the fewer possibilities for them to denounce us). Francisco sent someone he trusts, but Nicolas points out that they trusted Arturo and Jaime too. Francisco wants to kill Miguel himself. Nicolas shuts that down quickly, saying he would become a martyr. Instead they should use them to find out who the other supporters are.

Paca and Ana sneak out to the stables to help Marcos. He needs to leave and tell the others that Francisco is the murderer of the freed slaves. Ana apologizes for being a coward and not denouncing him. Marcos insists usted es una sobreviviente, igual que yo (you are a survivor, just like me). He kisses her hand before she runs back inside and Paca helps him out.

Eugenia complains about Nicolas. Bunme plainly states that it’s her own fault. Eso te pasa por renunciar a tu naturaleza y no ser esa mujer independiente de siempre para complacer a un tipo egoista (that’s what you get for giving up your nature and not being that usual independent woman just to please a selfish guy). Eugenia knows she’s right. Bunme calls Nicolas the devil, and Eugenia declares that she will be his perdición (downfall) by using the Marquesa.

Remedios is making some progress in her exercises. Apenas pueda, nos vamos de aqui (as soon as I can, we’ll leave). She notices that Victoria is a bit off. Francisco’s visit worried her. Even though el hombre no soltó prenda (the man didn’t let on), she knows something bad is happening. Remedios wonders if he had something to do with the murders. Victoria isn’t sure, but if it is true, Nicolas would also be involved.

Ana has invited all the guards inside to eat (so Marcos can escape without being seen).

Francisco pays Garcia (creepy hat guy) for scaring Catalina. He hopes it’s enough to make the Restrepos leave. If not, they still need to wait a few days before doing anything else...

Catalina doesn’t know who threatened her. Felipe wants to report the attack, but Catalina doesn’t. She’s afraid of the threat against him. No te das cuenta que estamos metidos en el infierno? (Don’t you realize that we are stuck in hell?) She just wants her family alive, the only thing she has left, even if it means letting the murderers go free. She’s aware esto te carcome por dentro (it’s eating you up inside), but she begs him not to report it. Just forget it and leave this place.

La Esclava Blanca – Wednesday, June 8 – Capítulo 35, part 2/3

Nicolas announces to Isabel, Victoria, and Adela that he’s going to let Miguel out of the pit.

Isaias convinces Felipe to understand that Catalina is afraid for him, not herself. (He also tells Felipe how the Lopezes let his mother starve to death, and that they killed his brother and the woman he loved. Just in case you wanted more reasons to despise them.)

Gabriel arrives at El Eden tired and thirsty since he had to walk from Santa Marta. He can’t afford a horse. Victoria tells him to go inside and get a drink. Nicolas remarks este tiene apellido, pero no donde caerse muerto (he has a name, but he doesn’t have a penny to it [no tener donde caerse muerto – to not have a penny to one’s name]). Victoria calls Gabriel a good man, and that is more important than money or a prestigious name. Nicolas finds it funny that she would say that since she’s a Marquesa. She doesn’t say anything. He imagines that she is happy that he’s letting Miguel out. Yes, it speaks well to the type of person he is. He feels like he’s a better person when he’s with her. When she doesn’t respond the way he wants, he gets creepy: No merezco algo por este gesto compasivo y misericordioso? (Don’t I deserve something for this compassionate and merciful gesture?) She lets him kiss her, and wipes her mouth after he leaves.

Damian wants to sell everything. He needs money so he can leave the country ASAP. A slave overhears this and tells another slave. They’re both worried what will happen to all of them if Damian leaves.

Francisco comes home, mad as usual. Ana asks him if he’s hungry. What a stupid question, he barks. He orders Paca to get Cuno and meet him at the stables. Of course Marcos is not there. Cuno is sure he knows what happened. Francisco goes to Ana’s room and... bad things start to happen... the scene shifts to a slave outside hearing Ana screaming.

Isabel tells the good news about Miguel to Gabriel. She notes that he has taught her more than just music. Muchas veces, hay que sacrificarnos por los demás (many times, we have to sacrifice ourselves for others). Adela is sitting in the background. She slaps her fan shut. They return to the music lesson.

Miguel opens the hole to the tunnel but quickly covers it when he hears Nicolas. Trinidad and another slave helps him out of the pit. Nicolas hopes he learned his lesson. Miguel says yes. Nicolas orders them to give him some food and water and then send him back out to the fields.

Francisco marches outside with his crazy eyes. He tells Cuno to find Marcos vivo o muerto (alive or dead).

La Esclava Blanca – Wednesday, June 8 – Capítulo 35, part 3/3

Trinidad notes that it seems like Miguel would have wanted to spend more time in that hueco inmundo (filthy space). Tal vez (maybe), he responds. We need to find a way to get back down there. There’s a tunnel but who knows where it leads. Miguel doesn’t want many people to know, only Tomas, Milagros, maybe Enith. Definitely not Candela since she es demasiado lengua suelta (has a loose tongue). Hablando del diablo (speak of the devil), here she is, and she has some information about Damian. His hacienda is full of contraband, and he wants to sell everything so he can leave. They need to get that info to Felipe. Julian orders Trinidad to prepare the carriage to take Gabriel to Santa Marta. Miguel knows that Gabriel is a good guy, so he encourages Trinidad to talk to him about the causa and if he will continue helping them.

One of Francisco’s guards tells Damian they are looking for an escaped slave. He lets them look around but wonders why that particular slave is so important to Francisco.

Miguel returns to the fields. Everyone greets him with joy. He hugs Enith and says he has something important to tell her. Remedios, Milagros, and Victoria are nearby with the lemonade. Remedios wonders who that woman is with Miguel, but they tell her not to worry, she’s a friend. Then she asks if Trinidad is there. Victoria assures her they will find a way for her to talk him alone. They start serving lemonade to everyone. Enith is suspicious of the Marquesa. Even though she’s been kind to them, she did nothing to stop Miguel’s punishment. Miguel responds that de pronto, algún día, algún blanco puede darle alguna sorpresa. No todos son iguales. (Suddenly, some day, some white person can give you a surprise. They are not all the same).

Gabriel delivers the info about Damian to Felipe. He says he will take care of it. He goes to Catalina’s room. She is still sleeping. He touches her face and walks out.

Manuela starts to put the moves on Gabriel but gets jealous when she hears that he was at El Eden. She finds out that Miguel is Nicolas’ son. She finds it hard to believe that Gabriel is the only one who could help esa niñita malcriada (that spoiled little girl). Gabriel defends Isabel saying that she is mature for her age. Manuela is annoyed that he will be returning to El Eden often, but Gabriel doesn’t care because he needs to earn a living. She warns him that those people no da puntada sin dedal (don’t do something for nothing in return). Felipe and Jaime were both possibilities for Isabel, and now Gabriel is. Gabriel protests that he has no money, but Manuela reminds him of his apellido (last name).

Felipe is with the General denouncing Damian. He wants them to search his property just like they searched his house.

Cuno and the guard tell Francisco that they found no trace of Marcos at any of the haciendas, including El Eden.

ESCALAVA:

Here is one interesting article about the Georgetown U slaves and the role of the Catholic Church in perpetuating slavery in the Americas: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/24/opinion/sunday/georgetown-and-the-sin-of-slavery.html?_r=0

Esclava Blanca

I am also really worried about Catalina! And now Ana with her horrible abusive husband. I have a feeling a lot more people will die before this is all over. :(

Hopefully Eugenia will get over Nicolas now and start getting back to being an intelligent independent woman. Just hope she doesn’t sabotage Victoria’s plans... Would love for those two to team up against Nicolas.

Esclava Blanca

Thanks for the info about Georgetown, Vivi. It doesn't surprise me how many supposedly good people supported slavery and profited off of it. Money rules the world rather than morality, which is extremely depressing.

Esclava

Muchas gracias, J, for yet another marvellous recap. I love it that you include so much Spanish, and this time I found two useful phrases that I hadn't known before: no tener donde caerse muerto and no da puntada sin dedal.

I'm afraid I agree with you that we're likely to see many more people die before the novela ends. Perhaps including people we've come to care about. All the violence doesn't affect me so much when when it occurs in a narconovela like El Señor de los Cielos, even when the victims are good people, but in Esclava, I find it hard to take.

Eva

Deb, you outdid yourself on the recap! “Shark chow” was outstanding, as was “heartbreak hotel”!

I’m pretty sure Andy packed the $100K into his minimal duffle. Sadly, I don’t think Andy will be trapped by meeting Camila and spill the beans. We aren’t even getting últimos anything as yet so Marlene can’t possibly wind up in the slammer this soon.

I agree about the actor playing Camila. Fine work on her part. I also think Jorge Luis Pila is doing a terrific job the whole way. He’s doomed, and he almost knows it. I can’t remember exactly what Fajardo said last night, but didn’t some clue link Armando to having killed Marta?

I also enjoyed Diego’s google search of breast feeding resulting in some unsavory finds. Pablo is his best self as father to that boy. In other areas, he’s a very flawed galán, but this is not Arap Bethke’s fault. It’s the writing.

I will lose a lot of respect for Luis if he’s critical of Soraya for Robert having forged a check for $100K and stealing from Panchopan.

Eva

thanks guys!

"wonder twins", "shark chow", and "Chulpitos makes my day" were in the english captions.

yes, exactly novelera, "Jorge Luis Pila is doing a terrific job the whole way. He’s doomed, and he almost knows it."

well, Sofia (another of Armando's lovers) lived in that apartment and is also dead.

I'm confused about the check because it appears that Soraya finished filling it out, BUT, told Robert he couldn't have it and I keep looking for some indication he forged something.

it's interesting that Soraya mentioned the other time Robert stole money from them and was caught by Pancho, because Luis dismissed those charges.

Marlene looks over her first kill and is ready for another.

Eva. Hi, deb! I think Soraya had filled out everything on the check except the numerical amount. At least that's how it looked to me in the little glimpse we saw of it sitting on the table. And yes, Marlene is almost tiger-like or like some other animal predator (a panther, a wolf or fox?), though she does seem to be worried about getting caught--at least for now.

Eva

deb, I think Soraya said that she hadn't finished filling out the check, that it was a blank check. If she just left the check on the table completely filled out, she'd have a hard time proving that Robert had stolen it. It would be simply her word against his.

Well, if you can't take credit for "wonder twins" and "shark chow," let me second SpanProf's praise of "as I watch their hands do their little dances." I almost included that lovely phrase in my message as well, but I had already cited so many examples that I decided to show a tiny bit of restraint. :-)

Esclava

thanks so much J, you really do professional grade recaps and I very much appreciate them, and all the work you put into them.

wow they are going to take turns being punished so they can go back to the pit, why not just go out there at night because Julian won't be there now, or do they get locked in, it was funny watching Miguel patch up the hole to the tunnel then all the dirt fell out.

not sure why the tunnel will allow them to escape, (like an underground railroad) can't they just run into the jungle, and I wonder where Marcos is.

I missed Adela's fan snap, but of course Isabel can't be alone with a man.

if Eugenia cuts Nicolas off he will be knocking on Victoria's door.

I am a regular novella watcher, and as an AFRICAN American I diligently watch for any/ all Black character or story lines.
Watching this novella has given American student and educators of African diaspora a little insight and graphic images of how African in central and South America survives the nightmare and horror of chattel slavery.
Enslavement of Africans [Transatlantic Slave Trade/MAAFA] in the Western Hemisphere was/is a holocaust that has still not been addressed and social political ramification are a cultural and economic battleground for Civil Rights and economic Equality for African Latinos.
The episode of the branding of children was the catalysis of my scroll of notices of this novella. The genocide both physical and mental, the terror and torture, is still in the memory of our folkways, art, songs and cosmology. The current political struggle for human right and dignity. The assertion of an African identify and national collective in resistance to white domination/supremacy.

The novella was very good at showing the structure of white domination and the dehumanizing of Africans.

The representations of the African community resistance to subjugation, were excellent, but over, all too quickly, in its portrayal as Akan, Yoruba, Fulani, Mali and of course Benin /Dahomy Muslims!!!

I hope the next telenovela will show African Latino in the current modern society. But the truth of their social status [racial caste system] will have to be seen as well.

The economics of the Black Body is interesting and has been discussed in the script, the genocide of whole groups of enslaved tribes in the mines. I found that interesting given the call for Reparation from Spain in restitution for 500 years of inhuman bondage and genocide.
Reparations for Slavery Due now!!!
