"This ain't gonna hurt a bit!" [Some scenes were merged for easier reading] |
Meanwhile Pablo has Valeria almost naked and tied to a chain. He is upset that his name is constantly appearing in the newspapers. But he spares her with one condition. That is to help ascend into Congress. After a teasing gun massage Valeria tells him that it's a difficult task as people keep asking about the source of Pablo's dough. He will also need a political party to run behind. Pablo points out that he owns the press, what difference would it make with politics? He proceeds his plan to integrate himself into politics. Pablo meets Fernando Duque ,a fellow New Liberals member( Portrayed by Bruno Bichir). Fernando is unimpressed by Pablo's attempts to justify himself but caves in under a large offer of dough. Fernando also bribes Rodrigo Lara, also a higher member of New Liberals.
To avoid suspicion Pablo get's placed as replacement candidate of Jairo Ortega. He successfully manages to win over the masses with his very convincing, hypocritical propaganda. He speaks of the "Men of Always" aka Oligarchs, the men who inhibit progress. Pablo's young supportive bride Tata is getting angry at Valeria's constant presence. Before going to labor she orders Pablo to stop disrespecting her with that hoe. A sweet baby girl is born. Gustavo also warns Pablo that he will quit working at the labs as he is tired of Pablo's obsession with politics. Pablo needs to focus on his family and business says Gustavo.
Back in the labs the Ortega's are getting anxious at Pablo's attempts of ruler ship. Will Pablo leave them out of the game when he receives Congressmen powers? Gacha warns them to not mess with Pablo, he is not a 5 year child in need of a spanking. The older brother Jorge proposes to keep doing business as usual and cast their ballots. They will let Pablo eat the cake until the cake swallows him.
Pablo&Carlos converse a bit about the panic in the labs. . Carlos says that these bandits don't grasp the concept of politics. Carlos seems to be the only one to understand him. Carlos tells him a nice little quote from Adolf Hitler :"If you win you don't have to explain anything, if you lose there's nothing to explain. Hitler also said that no politician should be allowed to be photographed in a bathing suit. Pablo laugh out loud so he later rewards Carlos with a leader position in the coke labs. Carlos turns the production up to 12% with his Gestapo methods.
On a side note Connie resists Steve's requests to leave the country. She continues to visit the local communal but little does she know that the Padre is a M-19. We also see Elisa Alvarez (Co-leader of M-19). Elisa gets interested in their new volunteer.
Poison is tasked to bring a donation to Fernando but Poison blurts out everything on a tapped phone. Poison is having lot's of fun on the journey, running over people. A roadblock is set up by Carrillo who is sure that Poison will trap himself but Suarez ruins the plan by leaking intel to Pablo. Pablo immediately calls Poison to reprimand him of his loud mouth.
Pablo is clearly winning the elections so Ambassador Noonan starts to get paranoid. They need to expose Pablo before he grows wings. Javier suggests to let Pablo win and expose him later. Javier&Steve decide to go on a manhunt for evidence but witnesses keep "vanishing" one after another. They catch a break soon after with an old photographer that took Pablo's mugshot years ago. Noonan shows the picture to Rodrigo Lara and he seems to be displeased with America's constant attempts of interference. But Noonan manages to convince him as Rodrigo Lara is the supposed Minister of Justice. With Pablo's assistance Ortega manages to win but Ortega soon retires, giving Pablo free reign . The next day Pablo calmly comes to the court looking at the statue of Simon Bolivar. He buys a tie from a guard as Pablo forgot to wear it. In the court everything seems to be according to Pablo's plan but things turn for the worse when Lara comes up clean of taking donations from traffickers. He explains that turning a blind eye to sin is a sin as well. When traffickers gain influence in Congress the citizens have sold their country to the highest bidder. The congress also sees Pablo's ancient mugshot. Pablo arrives out of the court furious but still gives back the tie. At home Pablo had to be calmed down by both Tata&Gustavo. They tell him that politics just isn't Pablo's game, he was too good for them.
Lara soon became the number one enemy of Narcos. Pablo even tried to sue him for defamation but soon stepped down himself. Thanks to Lara, the bandits lost their luxuries such as football teams&a portion of airplanes. Lara was sent to a field trip in Czechoslovakia to avoid being targeted while Steve gave him the bullet vest. Lara told him that the country will be grateful but will never accept being ordered around by Big Brother. Lara didn't put the vest on so he died from an assassination attempt. Carrillo, Steve and Pena arrive to the scene, Steve starts to lament his failure of failing the mission. Pena points out that not even a bullet vest could have saved Lara.
The ending scene is quite humorous as Steve&Pena meet again with Suarez. This time Suarez has a gift for Steve: A brand new cat!
