This past Friday's SILVANA episode --- I finally got to watch it during lunch hour, today. Oh my, besus interruptus for Papichulo and Chivis by way of Majo. And that was suuuuch a nice kiss, too.

I did not recognize LST (LessThanStella/r) when she came out of that store. I think it was the hair (a wig?). What a massive improvement .... until she opens her mouth. I can't wait to see the looks on everyone's faces. Will Poncho fall deeper in love with her? Or want his old Stella back? Stay tuned ..... ;-)

MaJo is behaving like a spoiled brat. Seriously, girl, take a seat. The actor playing Vicente is really good at portraying the hurt and spurned guy.
I actually think Andres and Lucha would be perfect for one another: they're both boring and virtually humorless.
Stella's makeover & breakng of the fourth wall was funny. I laughed at how all the 'Fresas' thought she was a crazy lady who might mug them when she was asking where they got their shoes, etc. What Mañuel ever saw in her, I do not know.
 

SILVANA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

Rats! I did not get to recap the big salsadromo benefit scene. And, with the exception of Manuel, these people are driving me crazy!

Stella asks the valet to bring her car, even though it’s two feet from her. Then she asks a couple of people in the wealthy neighborhood where to find a pet shop.

Lupita reads to Pedrito a list of reasons why they should be together. 1. He makes her laugh and he’s good looking. 2. He defended her from the school bullies. 3. He planned for a First Communion for her and 4. She thinks of him all the time. He says she got him back!

Stella reveals her ignorance in the pet shop, thinking the word Yorkshire is George. She wants the dog not to grow so he’ll fit in her purse and she’ll look like Paris Hilton. [Paris Hilton with a wad of gum in her jaw]. She’s shocked when the dog costs $1,200 and has to split the cost between several credit cards!

The insufferable Margarita is showing Jorge her dress for the benefit. He starts kissing her again, obviously trying to convince himself he’s over Angie. She gets a text from Benji saying things are going well. He got the first kiss. He’s also starting to like Angie de veras and says the lie will go on a bit longer.

Vicente, always decent, brings the blonde brat home from the Fish Market. She tells him she saw her mother and his father kissing. I’m having a hard time writing all the rotten things María José said tonight. One of them was to accuse her mother of being a hypocrite for giving her lectures about seeing Vicente while engaged to Andrés. She tells Vicente she never wants to speak to her mother again.

Chivis comes home and MJ leaves the room.

Lucha and Mauro are talking about their visit to the pediatric cancer ward dressed as clowns. This guy is SO nice. She has him play a game where one person starts a story, and the next person continues. He turns the story at the end to his feelings for her.

Chivis tells the brat that what happened was a mistake and lets the brat berate her. The equally annoying Trini wanders in to ask what’s going on. The topic comes up of Chivis leaving the terminal. Trini says she’s not a big fan of Chivis Fish, but at least it fed them. Chivis keeps lying to her mother, saying she’s leaving the terminal because of Stella.

Angie stops in the bakery and is talking with Juanito. He tells her she’s beautiful inside and out. When Jorge comes out of the back, he walks by, refusing to speak to her.

Angie follows him home and insists to be let in. She tells him she thought they were friends. He says he doesn’t want to be her friend. He owns up to overhearing what Lupita said to Pedrito about her kissing Benji. Angie vehemently says that he kissed HER. Jorge says he’s not angry because he’s jealous [!] He’s angry because she’s una habladora. [This made no sense to me.] He rants about all the things he tried to do to get her back and now she’s kissing some other guy. He calls her a liar. Angie looks stunned and leaves without another word.

Poncho and Dominique are cleaning house when Stella comes home, new outfit, dog, and all. She tells them she’s María Stella.

We get a couple of terrific father and son scenes with Vicente and Manuel. Vicente tells his father how angry MJ was and that he shouldn’t get his hopes up. If a woman has to choose between a boyfriend and a daughter, well...
 

SILVANA – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

Poncho tells Stella she looks just like Chivis [except for the chewing gum, says the recap writer, not Poncho]. She tells her friends Manuel will die for her. Si Manuel quiere una finolis, finolis va a tener.

Manuel and Vicente are on the patio, Vicente cooking and both of them with a beer. Vicente sticks up for MJ. He admits to his father that he’s in love hasta las patas. Manuel: “Isn’t she getting married” Vicente: “Yes, but I fell in love. I know I screwed up.” Manuel tells him he doubts that Vicente fell for her without any encouragement on her part.

Vicente says there’s a huge difference between Andy and he himself. Manuel replies that his son is better than Andy in every way except in being fresa. Manuel says that Andy got everything on a silver platter. Vicente: “Yes, the same as MJ. But she’s not so much in love with him as with his money.” Manuel says that he didn’t raise his children to be taken care of. Vicente says he’s not proud of selling fish in a market.

Vicente says that what happened with MJ affected him, and he’s not so sure he wants to keep on doing the same work. Manuel tells him that a girl who doesn’t care for a person for who they are instead of what they have is superficial and doesn’t deserve his love. [Amen!] When Vicente tells him MJ can’t help the way she grew up, Manuel retorts that her life of luxury was provided by a crook.

Vicente tells his father that he started selling fish at the age of 16 to help his father. He thinks he might like to go back to school and learn a profession. Manuel tells him that, if he wants this for himself, he’s all for it. But, if it’s to please a girl who doesn’t even have good sense, then don’t count on him.

Stella tells the guys she’s going to learn to play golf, but she could only afford one club! And, by the way, she says she’s going to have to raise their rent.

When Manuel asks Vicente what he wants to do, he replies maybe be like El Señor de los Cielos and gets a laugh from his father. He goes on to say he wants to work fewer hours. He’s done some internet research and would like to be an industrial engineer. Manuel laughs and calls him fresa.

Stella takes Dominique to some place where she’s going to learn to be a fine lady. Yawn.

We see the opposite of the fine parental talks earlier in the show when Chivis and Trini have a talk in her bedroom. Chivis finally admits that MJ saw her kissing Manuel. We get a long discourse from Trini about how horrible it would be to be with a fish seller. She winds up telling her daughter she needs to forget him.

MJ, the most immature 22 year old ever, is sobbing in her bedroom. When Andrés comes in to comfort her, she tells him she wants to be gone from here and to go live with him.

Great recap como siempre, novelera. Many thanks! It cleared up some interchanges I missed, and helped me see I wasn't the only one tearing my hair out over most of the characters' stupidities last night. Loved your "except for the gum-chewing" aside.

Like you, I was puzzled by Jorge's calling Angie habladora. I went to WordReference.com and found that their dictionary indicated that in Mexico, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic, one meaning of that word is "liar."

I found it amusing that apparently one sign of Stella's identity as a naca (in addition to her gum-chewing) is her not understanding English. Not just "Yorkshire," but also "pet shop" and "toy."

And yes, MJ was definitely the "blonde brat." Was, is, and probably forever would be, if this weren't a telenovela. I have a feeling we may get some super-sappy conversion at the end. Arrgh.

Poor Angie--she's one of the most sensible characters in the novela, but it looks as if her choices will be the wuss or the weasel. It's interesting...she sounds as if she's about 17, whereas wuss Jorge seems about 14. But even if weasel Benji is falling for her, I don't see him as a wise choice.

Though I was frustrated at Chivis' uncertainty and lack of confidence last night, I think that makes the situation more realistic. When I think of how she was raised, what she's been through, and what she has to face, I'm impressed that she stays sane.

I too loved the scenes between Vicente and Manuel.
 

Silvana. Excellent recap, novelera! I particularly liked your analysis of MJ. Blonde brat indeed! Given the way she's acting, leaving home would be a case of good riddance! MJ is the most immature selfish character in the novela (even Lupita is more mature) yet Chivis is allowing her to dictate her life. Also good analysis of Stella. Paris Hilton is not my idea of class. :) I repeat: Andrés, if you absolutely have to be around someone needy, adopt a puppy. And speaking of dogs, I hope someone is planning to feed Stella's and that kibble was among her purchases. Maybe Benji will become a better person and really fall for the wonderful Angie?--though he really deserves to get his heart broken, as does Jorge! Manuel is very wise, but I like it that Vicente has decided to follow his own dream and come up with a plan about what to do with his life. Besides, industrial engineering sounds like a practical choice (though possibly dependent on a declining manufacturing base--there was an interview with college students on our local NPR this morning and one of the engineering students said that). It also seems as if there might be some way after he finished his program to combine it with his terminal experience--maybe improve the shipment or processing of the fish or something.
 

Silvana. Great comments, Juanita. I think earlier in the novela we found out that Angie is 18, and a couple of episodes ago that Benji is still under 20. Jorge is in the same class in school as Angie, so presumably they are both supposed to be high school seniors.

Great comments, Juanita and Span Prof. I wasn't specific about the "driving me crazy" as it applies to Chivis. One [or was it two] episodes ago she told Manuel she was in love with him, told him to tutearla and only wanted to go slowly because of the children. When caught out, she reverses course and appears to be ready to jettison the relationship, even giving up a decent living. And all to dance to the tune of the immature brat and the tercera edad brat. I know this is a telenovela and the protagonists have to be kept apart for long periods of time, but Chivis just letting this happen bothered me.

Novelera, I think Chivis' confusion is consistent with what she told Manuel. She wanted to go slowly because of her daughters, and now one of her daughters is extremely upset at Chivis' kissing Manuel. Chivis is also worried that the other two daughters may feel the same way. Angie probably wouldn't, but Lupita, sí. So it's no wonder that Chivis acts as she does. And, of course, it doesn't help that the tercera edad brat (I love your description!) remains an unsympathetic snob.

Thanks, SpanProf, for the info about the ages of Angie and Jorge. I didn't make it at all clear, but I meant that Jorge ACTS as if he's a young teenager, though I realized that he and Angie are more or less the same chronological age.

If anyone saw The Voice last night, or the promos for it, Stella's wedding dress with all those gawdawful flowers stuck all over it had NOTHING on that shirt Miley Cyrus had on. Please do not let this be a thing!

Gobluefan, I too think Majo's sense of morality will be in for a challenge, but I still think it's going to come from when she finds herself pregnant. (Of course, with my track record, the fact that I'm predicting that she WILL become pregnant likely means she won't. :-) )

Wonderful recap, novelera. Thank you. You voiced my frustrations with Majo and with Chivis letting Majo steamroll her. I do get why Chivis feels guilty and like this is all too much for her and the family to deal with right now, on top of everything else. But I cannot stand the disrespect Majo (who is old enough to know better) is showing her. And Trini is no help at all. Chivis needs a real girlfriend. Someone with the wisdom and kindness of Angie, but is her own age.

Speaking of Angie, I wish she had told Jorge to stuff it! Just because you ask forgiveness, doesn't mean the other person has to give it, or give it on YOUR timetable. And he's been making out with M-Arg! all over the place, yet feels the right to get on Angie's case about one kiss. Get over yourself, Jorge.

I think a part of Majo just wants an excuse to move out of the hood, and move into Andres very swanky house. Avoiding sleeping with him when they live under the same roof will be a challenge though.
 

Silvana. And of course MJ can fall back on the Catholic thing. Chivis is married in the church so that technically a relationship with Manuel would be adultery, whereas MJ has just indulged in some premarital sex. In her mind at least, it makes a difference that she is truly single--creepy though her conduct may have been, and no matter how much she may have used Vicente.

SILVANA SIN LANA (Cap.45) - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

As the episode opens, Majo is pleading with Andrés to take her away, she can't stand her mother, she wants to go live with him. She tells him she's fed up with the neighborhood, the house, the fish terminal. He says, "It's Vicente." She denies this and again asks to live with him. He tells her that coming to live with him is no solution. Moreover, he lives with his parents, so he'd have to speak with them. He asks her whether she has spoken to her mother about this. She hesitates and finally admits that she hasn't yet told her mother about her plans. Andrés tells her that he thinks her mother deserves to know. Majo does tell him that she doesn't want to cause problems for him, and she doesn't want his parents to think that she's a shameless, cheeky person (una descarada). He assures her that they won't think that. She repeats that she wants to marry him. Andrés is apparently no fool [somewhat to my surprise]; he asks her whether she's just trying to get away from an unpleasant situation.

The scene shifts to Stella's getting lessons on how to be a fresa. She asks the Fresa Advisor what one has to do to be elegant. The advisor replies that one has to be discreet, modest, demure (discreta, recatada), in other words, everything Stella is not [my interpretation, not necessarily the advisor's].

Manuel and Chivis meet outside their houses when Chivis takes out the garbage. Chivis tells him that things went very badly with Majo, that Majo doesn't want to talk to her or have anything to do with her. Manuel assures Chivis that she didn't do anything bad, and things will resolve themselves. Chivis isn't so sure.

At the breakfast table, Majo announces that she's not going to work anymore at that jungle of nacos, the fish terminal. She wants to work somewhere where people know how to behave like decent people. Angie is annoyed, since working at the fish terminal makes it possible for them to eat. "You call this eating?" asks Majo contemptuously. She claims that Angie doesn't mind because she's used to eating badly.

Back home, Stella tries to practice her fresa lessons. She repeats the line "la moda es un instante fugaz donde puedes experimentar la libertad" (fashion is a fleeting instant where you experience/try out freedom). Dominique corrects her pronunciation of experimentar. She has also apparently learned to say "pizza," not "picza," and "esperame," not "perame." Dominique and even Poncho rattle off some lines in English from a British show, and Stella goes around repeating "My Lord."

At the Salsadromo, there's the event to raise money for Juanito, whose house has burned to the ground. Most of the usual suspects are there. Don Benito and Trini are helping with the event, Margarita has come with Jorge, Angie with Benji, Lucha with Mauro, and Dominique with Poncho (though not as a couple). Jennifer arrives and quickly latches onto Poncho, telling him how hungry she is. Vicente comes by himself, though he informs the world that "I'm here to find the next lucky woman, and I think I see her." He goes off in the direction of a good-looking woman who made eye contact, and he says "I'm going to meet the jefa of my children."

Chivis has stayed home with Lupita. Lupita asks when her father is coming back, saying she misses his hugs. Chivis tells her she doesn't know when AJ will return, and she suggests that Lupita pray a lot so that God will see to it that he comes back soon. Lupita then asks, "If we remain poor, will he come back to us?" Chivis says she doesn't know, and they'll have to ask AJ. Chivis then lies down in Lupita's bed next to Lupita to help her go to sleep.
 

SILVANA SIN LANA (Cap. 45) - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

Majo enters the salsadromo with Andrés. Mauro comes over with Lucha to say hello to Andrés and says in good humor, "Don't be unpleasant, introduce me to your novia (No sea mala onda, preséntela). Lucha says rather nastily, "no, the unpleasant one is someone else" (no, la mala onda es otra).
A short while later, a large, somewhat rough-looking guy comes over and greets Majo, asking why she's been absent and why she doesn't return. Majo pretends not to know him, and Andrés introduces her as his novia. The guy replies that when he met her, she was with another guy. Vicente pops up and says, "I was the other guy" (ese cuate era yo). Majo tries to claim that the guy was confused. Andrés suggests they change the topic. [He'd have been wiser to suggest they change their plans to get married.]

Manuel has been at Chivis' house. She talks about how upset she is at Majo's reaction to seeing her kiss him. Manuel assures her that she's done nothing wrong, and that her children have to learn that life is not so simple and that one needs to be flexible, especially with the people one loves. Chivis again goes on about how her daughters are the most important to her. Manuel tells her that they need a happy mother. He kisses her goodnight and leaves. Seconds later, there's a knock on the door. Chivis opens it without even looking, sure that it's Manuel. [I knew better.] AJ bursts in, asking "who was that guy who just left?"

Chivis and AJ have a predictable discussion. She keeps asking what he's doing there and asking him to leave because he's jeopardizing his family. He keeps asking who the guy was who just left. He also tells her he has no intention of separating from her. She tells him she's not his property, and if she decides to end things, that's that. He asks whether she wants to separate because of that other guy. She tells him that Manuel has nothing to do with this. She admits that she has changed a lot, and that she's not the foolish and self-sacrificing woman that she was. He tells her he's not leaving until he finds out what's happening with their marriage. She tells him their marriage doesn't exist. Suddenly there's a knock at the door. AJ retreats into the kitchen while Chivis opens the door to the two detectives.

The detectives ask if they can come in. No, says Chivis. We can speak here. My youngest daughter is asleep upstairs and I don't want to wake her. Of course, they ask whether she has seen AJ. Once again, Chivis lies and says she hasn't. They persist, and she finally says they can come in and look if they wish. [I'm not sure whether she was calling their bluff, or thought that AJ had had time to escape, or was hoping that they'd find him. Or all of the above.] One of the detectives tells her that won't be necessary. However, they warn her that if she's lying, that makes her an accomplice, and the penalty is severe. They leave. Chivis again tells AJ that he's jeopardizing his family, and that he should leave and not come back until things are clear and he doesn't have to continue hiding.
 

SILVANA SIN LANA (Cap. 45) - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

At the salsadromo, Jorge overhears Benji on the phone being very affectionate and sending kisses. He asks Benji about the call. Benji claims he was talking to his mother. He also tells Jorge to mind his own business. Jorge tells Margarita about the phone call. He's afraid Benji is not being sincere with Angie. Margarita tells him to stop thinking about Angie; moreover, Benji is terrific. Later, Jorge tells Angie about the phone call. She thinks he's just being jealous.

Manuel shows up at the salsadromo and tries to talk to Majo about her mother. Majo calls him shameless (descarado). Lucha overhears her say this, and the two of them exchange insults. A short time later, Andrés tells Majo that he's spoken with his parents, and it's OK for her to move in whenever she wants. "Tomorrow," Majo replies.

Vicente has been drinking heavily all night and is drunk. He goes over to Andrés and talks about the differences between them: Andrés is upper-class, has money, and has a profession, whereas Vicente sells fish. He then declares in a very loud voice, "This guy stole my girl!" (¡Este chavo de acá, me quitó a mi chava!). Manuel tries to calm him down. He seems momentarily to have succeeded. Vicente then announces to everyone that he wants to congratulate Andrés and Majo and hopes they'll have many children like themselves, born in a golden cradle, lots of money, and a good career. He goes on to say that Andrés has at his side the best woman in the world. Andrés asks him to leave them in peace. Vicente asks him ¿Te enojaste porque te bajé a tu chava?. I wasn't sure how to translate it and feared that "bajar" could mean "to go down on." [Embarrassed look] However, WordReference.com tells me that it more probably means "to steal," as in "Are you angry because I stole your girl?" At any rate, Andrés was angry enough to slug Vicente hard. Vicente apologizes to Manuel, then walks over to Andrés and slugs him back. Majo gets into the act, yelling at Vicente and telling him that he and his family have destroyed hers (Tu y tu familia, lo único que han hecho es destrozar a la mia). She calls them the lowest kind of trash (nacos de quinta). Lucha is furious. The two of them get into another shouting match, and Majo tells Lucha to ask her father why she's angry.

Chivis is still trying to get AJ to leave. He brings out a little toy that he wanted to give Lupita. He asks Chivis to say she found it in the tree. He also asks after Angie and Majo. He tells Chivis that his life is very difficult without them, and without her. He's clearly quite upset. He embraces Chivis, kisses her on the shoulder, and leaves. Take care, she says.
 

SILVANA

Chivis's behavior re AJ is a little irritating to me. I don't understand why she is lying to the Feds in order to protect AJ. YES, he's the father of her children, but he left them completely in the lurch, sold things out from under them and disappeared off the face of the earth (apparently to someplace where he was eating and drinking very well!) If it was me, I'd have been like 'Come on in, check the kitchen!'
Chivis... File for divorce and marry Mañuel. Do not be held emotional hostage by that brat MaJo!
 

SILVANA--
It took me longer to catch up (what with Yago in the mix here). Novelera, J, and Juanita, KUDOS for doing this delightful, but frustrating telenovela. I've thoroughly enjoyed the reportage, from straight out recapping to wonderful editorial comments (gum chewing fresas, not being sure how to translate "te baje tu chava" and being embarrassed by the possibility that it could be a literal translation).

Chivis is not yet a 21st Century woman. Those 20-year + sleeping hormones have awakened, but her guilt won't let her act upon them. Manuel is a saint. I'm ashamed as are all of you, that she has let MJ's reaction to a kiss factor into a major decision like resigning a promising business.

I'm also ashamed that she has been lying to everyone, including Lupita, Stella and AJ (so help me I want him caught), about her relationship. Manuel is right, she has done nothing to be ashamed of [well, yet], but to give her the benefit of the doubt, she feels in her heart that she has. She's the one who needs to go visit our Hippie Priest.

I apologize for what I'm about to do, because I half-promised to recap after Camino was over. I just can't. You have all been doing such a fantastic job of listening and translating. I can't catch half of what Stella is saying, much less Dom's colorful language, I wouldn't do them justice. Sorry, but I can't stand them or even poor Poncho and whenever Trini and Don B. get together, I >>FF. It would be a chore rather than a labor of love.

Bajar has way too many translations. I do think it was meant as to steal (a girlfriend) in this context. Vicente also used it as "to download" (instead of descargar) a few episodes ago, and I also just learned from Despertar Contigo that it means to start your period.
 

Silvana. Excellent recap, Juanita! I loved your Fresa Adviser! And yep, I too was surprised that Andrés was no fool about MJ's motives, and you're right that he would have been wise to change his marriage plans. I too strongly suspected that that would be AJ at the door--speaking of descardos, not to mention narcissists--he seems to be incapable of remorse. Andrés still lives with his folks? No wonder he has such an upscale lifestyle! Both MJ and Lucha are pretty nasty to each other. Vicente, to his credit, even though drunk, even though physically assaulting Andrés, is gentleman enough not tell him (at least not outright, since bajar is a little ambiguous) that he and MJ have had sex. It's good that Jorge told Angie about Benji's phone call--even as a friend. She does say she'll take it into consideration--though you're right that she thinks it's jealousy on Jorge's part. At least she has been forewarned.

Thank you so much, Juanita! Like you all, I hate that Silvana is being held emotionally hostage by MJ (and Trini). And AJ was using emotional blackmail with that stuffed animal too. Until he turns himself in, I'm not giving him any slack for being a loving father. He saw with his own eyes what kind of danger he's putting Silvana in by skulking around.

Spanprof- I too was impressed that in his inebriated and angry state, Vicente didn't blurt out that he and MJ had already had sex. I still fail to see what either of these guys see in MJ. She's not smart, hard-working, or nice.

Anita you are right about chivis being a 20th century woman and feeling guilty about her feelings for Manuel, I also think chivis dodged a bullet by not being at the salsadromo cuz I can imagine the scene Majo would have made if she had seen chivis anywhere close to Manuel

Silvana. Vivi: I totally agree with you about MJ!I think Vicente said something on the order of her being the most wonderful woman at the salsodromo benefit. Uh, no. But maybe she was good in bed? Only he would know.

Thanks so much J for another great recap. You got all the slang perfectly. I have heard bajar before in the sense of taking something away from another person. It’s also used in a sort of cutesy sense in someone bajando the last cookie.

Was the guy who recognized Majo a guy who worked at the motel? Maybe not. Maybe he only saw them before dancing at the salsadromo.

I’d like to weigh in on the possibility of Majo being pregnant. I hope that’s not the way the writers go. Majo needs to decide for herself that she really loves Vicente, not be pushed into it by biology.

I really expected Stella to waltz into the event with her new “look”. I guess she’s waiting until the Fresa Adviser (good one, J) finishes the makeover.

Didn’t Majo point out Lucha and Mauro before he approached them and say something nasty about their being so low-class to Andrés? I sort of remember that. She was just a miserable human being the whole evening. Andrés looked a bit piqued at seeing Lucha having such a good time dancing with Mauro.

I wish Chivis would be as tough with her eldest daughter as she’s being with AJ.

I expect it’s sort of standard telenovela schtick, but I didn’t like Vicente getting drunk at the benefit. I would have preferred him to smile and dance beautifully with the woman about whom he made the comment about being the mother of his children. It would have been better for Majo to get a look at what she’s missing instead of his embarrassing himself.

When Stella was practicing her speaking, she reminded me of Eliza Doolittle. Um .... just a teeny little bit. LOL

I worry about the dog's care and well-being. Will he be a disposable pet when her plan falls flat?

For a Yorkie, he is very calm.....quite unlike the ones I have known.

Majo .... ugh ... don't get me started. In real life, often one daughter will side with the father, no matter how despicable his behaviors or crimes. She is fitting into that textbook character. That doesn't mean I have to like her, though. :-p Andres can have her. Pfffft!

Many thanks to all the people who commented on the recap. I'm most grateful for the supportive remarks and fascinated by all the interesting comments about the episode. Alas, I've had a very busy day, and so I can't respond to each person individually. And now Wednesday's episode is about to start!

One thing occurs to me that hasn't been commented on today. The detectives keep warning Chivis about the problems she'll face if she's been hiding/helping/in touch with AJ. I'm not looking forward to seeing Chivis arrested or worse, but I'm nervous about how often she's been warned.

Juanita- I worry about the same thing. But maybe if Chivis gets arrested because of AJ, MJ will finally take her mother's side.

Juanita - good point about the multiple warnings Chivis has had about lying/hiding/ helping AJ. In telenovelaland this is usually a sign of things to come. Orange might be Chivis' new black. That would fill a few episodes of the <80 left to go. 😮

doris, yes, the fact that there are almost 80 more episodes remaining means the writers have to dream up numerous complications. Chivis' being arrested for aiding and abetting AJ could certainly be one of them. Sigh.

In almost every telenovela I have watched, someone gets unexpectedly pregnant. In the 80 remaining episodes, I wouldn't be surprised if MaJo discovers she is pregnant, and then has to decide who she should blame.

I sincerely hope MaJo isn't pregnant. She's a big baby herself! She definitely seems to favor her daddy. Selfish and entitled. I've noticed that they both also pepper their Spanish with English phrases a lot.
Speaking of which, I actually feel sorry for Stella , feeling she has to change into someone she (very clearly!) is not. Poncho loves her for herself, it's a shame she doesn't reciprocate.
Chivis going to prison would be awful! Trini would be in charge of the girls. I guess at least they wouldn't starve, with Don Benito around.

If Chivis does get arrested, perhaps that would spur MJ to actually get a job. But my guess is that it would spur her to justify her relationship with Andres-- giving her the martyr excuse that she HAS to marry rich Andres to help her family.

Everyone starts leaving the salsodromo. Lucha asks Manuel why Majo was so angry at him. He says he'll tell her at home.

Angie tells Chivis what happened between Vicente and Andrés. Trini tells Majo it's her fault for getting involved with the neighbor. Angie doesn't understand why Majo took it out on Manuel when Vicente started everything.

Jorge helps drunk Vicente upstairs. Manuel finally admits to Lucha that Majo caught him kissing Chivis.

Angie goes upstairs and Chivis tells Trini that AJ and the cops were at the house that night.

Lucha asks Manuel if he's in love with Chivis. When he says yes, she keeps insisting that he should have nothing to do with her. Manuel points out that Lucha likes the doctor, who is more fresa than all of the neighbors put together. She says it's different because she's a chava (young girl) and she'll find someone else anyway. Manuel has four kids to think about.

Stella practices golf and talks to her dog. Doomnique and Poncho come home and explain what happened at the party. Stella wonders if Manuel asked about her. Not at all. Tomorrow will be her big fresa entrance at the terminal.

Chivis also tells Trini that AJ saw Manuel leaving the house. Trini needs another drink.

Angie tells Majo it's obvious that Vicente is in love with her. What would happen if he told Andrés about him and Majo? Andrés would never forgive her. Majo doesn't think Vicente would do that intentionally, but that's why she was yelling so much at the salsodromo. She was afraid he would blurt it out while drunk. Angie still doesn't understand why Majo took it out on the Gallardos in general instead of just Vicente. Majo finally tells her that she saw Chivis and Manuel kissing and that's why she's so angry at their mother.

Angie doesn't believe her at first. Majo explains that's why they're not going to work at the terminal anymore. She wants to leave the house as soon as possible.

Jorge brings coffee to Vicente. He has never seen Vicente act like that about a woman before. Vicente explains: me da coraje porque yo sé que ella me quiere, pero como no le llego a su altura, pues prefiere al otro (it gives me courage because I know she loves me, but since I'm not at her level, she prefers someone else). Jorge points out that if Majo prefers someone else, there's nothing he can do about it and he'll only end up hurt. Vicente wants to show Majo that he can be better than the doctorcito. Jorge tells him not to compare himself to Andrés, and that he is a todo dar (awesome, the best). Vicente doesn't think so; he has postergado un chorro de cosas (put off a ton of things) and now is the time to start doing them. He wants to be somebody in life. He tells Jorge not to make the same mistake. Estudia, echale ganas, no seas güey (study, give it all you've got, don't be stupid) because if not, when you fall in love, she's not going to pay any attention to you.

Angie doesn't think it's a good idea for Majo to move out. Majo can't stand to be in the same house as her mother, and she'll never forgive her for cheating on their father with the neighbor.

Chivis asks Trini not to mention Manuel's name in the house anymore. She happily agrees. Manuel then knocks on the door to pick up Pedrito. Trini says hablando del rey de Roma y el burro que se asoma (speak of the devil - literally: speaking of the king of Rome, the donkey appears). Chivis tells Manuel about AJ seeing him there.

Stella is doing yoga. Poncho discovers that there are only vegetables in the fridge and freaks out. She tells the boys that they will only have healthy food in the house from now on. Plus Poncho will be her guardaespaldas (bodyguard) and Domonique will be her mayordomo (butler), so they need to dress nice the next day because they're going to play golf. She threatens to raise their rent if they don't play along.

Chivis can't handle everything that's going on and tells Manuel they can't be together. They need to forget what happened between them and how they feel. They are over. She hopes he understands that they need to stay away from each other. Manuel think she's just afraid and she can't let that rule her life. He will not give up on her and he will always support her.

The next morning, Vicente apologizes to Manuel for his behavior. He knows he went too far, but he's in love with Majo. He knows that she loves him and not Andrés. She's just afraid. Manuel comments that she's not as sure as him, and fighting with her boyfriend is not going to convince her. He wants Vicente to apologize to both Majo and Andrés. He agrees and heads off to the stall, noting that Poncho brilla por su ausencia (is conspicuously absent) and that Stella also hasn't opened her stall.

Stella fails miserably to hit the golf ball. Dom and Poncho make fun of her and pretend to be her cheerleaders. She finally hits a ball and it nails a guy in the head and knocks him to the ground. They hop on the golf cart and drive off.

In Andrés' class, the two students (who always joke about Andrés and Lucha being together) make a comment about Andrés being a boxer and fighting for his female students. Lucha and Mauro arrive 10 minutes late because of the bus and Andrés won't let them stay to the take the exam.

Margarita tries to find out if Angie and Benji are novios yet. She is her usual self and Angie is annoyed. Margarita screws up a little and mentions that she's never seen Benji so smitten with a girl before. Angie comments that she talks as if she's known him her whole life. She tries to blow the comment off, and Angie gets exasperated and leaves. Jorge sees them talking.

The three stooges stop for lunch in the middie of the golf course and Stella thinks the pond is for swimming. Poncho starts taking off his clothes and three guys come running over calling him a pervert. (I think it was the guy she hit and some security guards). They grab their stuff and hop on the cart again.

Juanito tells Trini they raised enough money to rent a new place. She is actually nice to him, calling him Juanito instead of niño. Don Benito asks about her French bakery, but she says she prefers this one.

Jorge catches up to Angie. She wants them to keep their distance since it's really hard for her, even though it was her decision to not be with him in the first place. She's a little annoyed at how nosy he is about Benji, but he just wants to make sure she doesn't get hurt.

Lucha talks/yells at Andrés. She doesn't get why he was so mad. She apologizes for Vicente, but Andrés says it's not about that. He's worried about her because she's never been irresponsible before. She should have told him that she was going to the hospital on exam day. Lucha responds that he's not her father and she and Mauro are not children, so what is going on with him? He admits that it's strange that they were such great friends and all of the sudden... his phone rings. It's Majo. Lucha comments that she told him being friends was not going to be easy.

Leaving the golf course, Stella stops suddenly and says me enamoré (I fell in love) when she sees an attractive man get out of his car. She introduces herself as Maria Stella. The man kisses her hand.
 

Silvana. Excellent recap, J. The Stella/Dom/Poncho scenes really were like an old-time short subject at the movies--very slapstick--so your 3 Stooges reference was very a propos. In Spanish coraje usually means anger. I thought that dom and Poncho in tuxes was hilarious too. Andrés was extremely unreasonable about Lucha's and Mauro's slight tardiness due to a bus delay. I wouldn't want him for my professor!

J - Thank you for the recap! Great minds think alike, because I was thinking "3 Stooges" too.
The tuxes on the golf course, in warm, humid Miami, were a bit much. Stella yelling "Gol!!!" after a shot cracked me up. I really wanted to see Poncho take that driver and hit a gorgeous shot!

Watching Stella (try to) do yoga was painful. LOL

Thanks very much, J., for another complete and helpful recap. As always, I greatly appreciated the inclusion of so much useful Spanish.

One of the things I've always liked about Telemundo novelas is that problems tend not to drag on for weeks. I'm hoping that that will prove to be true for Chivis' insane desire to end her relationship with Manuel. However, I'm still worried about the absurdities the writers may have to resort to to fill up 35+ more episodes.

J--Thank you for the all-inclusive recap. Enjoyed all of it, not having seen any of it, but I plan to as soon as I finish. It sounds as if there was a lot of excuses running around last night.

I'm sorry Manuel assumed the responsibility for kissing Chivis when they were both soooo into it. Majo didn't see what she wanted to see, she saw what it was. I'm also upset that Chivis thinks she has to divorce herself from Manuel (yes, Manuel, it's not an error) while he is constant about his being there for her. If she thought she might lose him, she might have a different perspective, but this way she doesn't have to worry about him "straying." Ah...that's where the new remodeled Stella comes in. Darn.

Maybe Mañuel will have as much 'I'm there for you' staying power as Jorge did with Ange , i.e. roughly two and a half weeks. Also, the Fresa friend of Chivis who clearly had the hots for him might make a move.
