I'm off to Florida tomorrow so Friday's recap might be later than usual. Looking forward to your recap for tonight's ep, novelera!

Thanks for the correction with coraje, SpanProf. I was doing that recap quicker than usual and didn't double check translations.

The three Stooges are amusing me more and more. I have to admit the golf course scenes were funny.

No idea how closely this version is following the original Pituca sin lucas, but that one had 153 episodes that were only 25 minutes long, so...

SILVANA – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 2

We again see Less than Stellar meeting some guy at the golf course. [Something’s a little odd here. Last night they said that Stella couldn’t foot the bill at a country club, so they went to a public course. Tonight the guy she meets tells her he owns a couple of transnational companies and yet is playing golf at the public course.]

Stella tells the guy she’s lives in a mansion in Key Biscayne. [First off, people who live in mansions don’t say that they do! How in the world doesn’t this guy see through her act, which is amateurish to the extreme?] After the guy leaves, she tells the other Stooges: “Hole in one!”

Cata comes to see Manuel and finds out that Chivis doesn’t work there any more. She then puts some major moves on Manuel, planting a kiss on him. [These telenovela vamps are so over the top it’s unbelievable.]

Andrés shows up at Casa Villaseñor and apparently the brat never had the decency to tell her mother and her grandmother that she was moving out. They are stunned. Andrés tries to get her to talk things over with her mother, offering to wait outside. [And her complete lack of consideration doesn’t even faze him?]

Cata tells Manuel what an open marriage she has. Manuel tells her his heart is taken. Before she leaves, he asks her not to tell Chivis what happened.

Majo tells her mother that she doesn’t deserve an explanation. [My fingers and toes are crossed that Andrés’ mother is insufferable.]

Chivis is distraught over her daughter leaving and her stupid, superficial mother blames it on her. She says her daughter did a great job getting the family out of a bad situation [and feeding her fat face for months], but she messed up by taking up with the low-class neighbor. She says that relations between people like her and people like the neighbors are like a relationship between a peacock and a rhinoceros. She babbles on about what the people at the mall would think of them.

Vicente teases his father at the terminal about Cata, calling him el terror de las finolas, el Brad Pitt de las ricachonas.

Stella makes her grand entrance at the terminal, and Vicente says the obvious: she resembles Chivis.

Trini goes to see Benito to whine some >>>>

After Stella comes into Manuel’s office, she pirouettes. He tells her she looks ridiculous. “Do you think I’m stupid and can’t see you’re here in a Chivis costume? Do you think this is going to get me back?” She denies this and says that he’s not up to her level!

Out by the fish stalls Stella tells Dominique that Manuel is going to die when he sees her new galán. When Dom reminds her the “make Manuel jealous” gambit didn’t work before, the thoughtless creature tells him that this is different. Obviously Poncho [who is standing right there looking hurt] no le llega a los talones de Manuel (he doesn’t come close to being as …attractive…sexy…whatever).

SILVANA – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 2

Cata shows up and manages to convince Chivis to help with the big event. [Five minutes with this woman and I’d be twitching.] Of course she tells her, with great glee, that Manuel kissed HER.

Vicente comes to the university to apologize to Andrés. Andrés accepts, but more or less says he’ll break his face if he keeps coming after Majo. Then he drops the bomb on Vicente that he and Majo are living together.

Angie is studying math with Benji. He leaves the room for a minute while she’s downloading something from his computer. Margarita sends him a message. Angie is suspicious since they supposedly don’t know each other. He wiggles out of it by saying Margarita wants some tutoring.

Chivis comes to the terminal and is rather cool with Manuel. She has brought some paperwork. He picks up on it and tells her that Cata kissed him. And he also tells her that he told Cata he was taken. She tells him about MJ moving out. Manuel always says exactly the right thing, reminding her of all she’s achieved.

At the school Majo is talking with Lupita in Andrés’ huge car. Lupita is sobbing, begging her sister not to leave. This of course affects MJ, but she isn’t going to let her sister’s grief change her plans.

Just as Manuel and Chivis are looking lovingly at each other, Less than Stellar bursts into his office. Manuel tells Chivis that Stella has had an extreme makeover. Chivis can’t believe her eyes, but agrees with Stella’s assessment of herself as “super divine”. Chivis also says that her look is very original [!] Stella can’t quite hear the irony. Chivis leaves.

Stella invites Manuel to dinner at her expense, but we don’t hear his response.

MJ drops off the still sobbing Lupita and gets into the car. Vicente gets in. He asks her if she’s living with Andrés. He apologizes for the scene at the salsadromo, saying it was caused by love. She wants to know if he told Andrés about the two of them making love, of course she asks in a roundabout way. She’s pretty insulting after he looks at her honestly and says he did not; this is something between the two of them. She says something about his getting drunk and blurting it out in a bar. He tells her he loves her. And they could have been happy together if she’d have been willing to try for it. He gets out of the car. [I hope he stays away from her for a good long while.]

Silvana

novelera - Thank you for the recap! I agree with all your opinions on these characters last night, too.

If that guy at the golf course owns so many properties, what is he doing at a public course? And who the heck tells a stranger about their wealth unless they are a) lying or 2) insecure or 3) narcissistic.
I think he's as much a con job as Stella is. No way will this last.

Let's hope Andres' mother IS an insufferable witch so that MJ will appreciate her own mom and go running back home. Because, seriously, I can't see this story arc going anywhere.

Dear Vicente --- Please wake up and smell the sulfur, and ditch that witch Majo.

Silvana

Muchas gracias, novelera, for another splendid recap. Yes, the supposedly rich golfer is quite possibly a fraud like Less Than Stellar. I hope so!

Boy, Cata is really a piece of work, isn't she? It's surprising that Chivis was ever her good friend. And I agree with your statement about telenovela vamps being so over the top.

I think Andrés was quite surprised and uncomfortable that Majo hadn't talked with her mother about her plans, though I'm not sure that her lack of consideration didn't faze him. My assumption is that he wouldn't want to make a scene with her in front of other people, but I really do think he was bothered by her discourtesy.

I'm not holding out much hope that Andrés's mother is insufferable. Surely Majo and she know each other, since Majo and Andrés were together for three years. If the mother were a witch, I suspect Majo would have been at least a little uneasy about moving in with Andrés and his parents. I suppose that the parents haven't had all that much opportunity to see Majo for long periods of time. [Really, though, ten minutes should tell them all they need to know!]

As for Trini, she has annoyed me from the beginning. I was pleased that when she went on about what people at the mall would think, Chivis scolded her for continuing to be concerned with such trivial matters.

As soon as Angie switched to Benji's computer, I was sure that a text from Margarita would arrive. I had hoped it would be more revealing, but since she supposedly didn't know him, any text would arouse suspicions. He managed to come up with a semi-plausible explanation, but the fact that a second text arrived, plus Jorge's warnings, should put her on high alert. Should.

SILVANA

Juanita- no doubt Majo has met Andres' mother, like you say, but Chivis telling Manuel that A's parents are very conservative was a red flag for me. Often, adults read signs about people that 20-somethings miss.

When Cata kissed Manuel, I noticed that he opened his mouth to receive that kiss. Boo! Hisssssss! Baaad telenovio!!!

Vincent's scenes with Amdres and Majo were very well written and done. He shows lot of character, class, and maturity. And he's not bad on the eyes.

Silvana

Good point, doris, about adults reading signs that 20-somethings miss. (And I've also seen the reverse :-) )

Yes, I think I too recall Manuel seeming to be much more into that kiss from Cata than I would have expected. Somehow, I don't think that's going to turn out to be significant, at least I hope not!

Vicente has matured a lot from the start of the telenovela. How weird that that may have been precipitated by his falling in love with the least mature person in the novela.

SILVANA:

Thanks so much novelera! I haven't seen this episode yet.

One thing that strikes me from reading that Benji lied to Angie that Marg asked him to tutor her in math is that if she mentions that to Jorge, he'll know it's a lie. Marg is REALLY good in math, and we've seen her tutoring Jorge before.

SILVANA
Novelera--So good of you to keep up this pace. It was an excellent recap, with observations and insight.

Maybe the rich guy is from out of town and didn't have a country club membership. Juarever, it's what's in LTS's head that matters. How is she going to use him without exposing herself.

Vicente is like CREAM rising to the top. I didn't know what to think of him when this tn started. Now he's absolutely the richest, well-drawn character, and interpreted by a, yes, "not bad on the eyes," actor.

He should not have bedded MaJo without knowing what her true feelings for him were, though--IMHO. I guess we're in for baby trouble or else why having them do it, unless it's only for Andres to find out. OTOH, modern girls (must I describe it?), often have little trouble, the first time. MaJo certainly didn't seem to complain about any pain or bleeding which is so expected of all pre- early 20th C. virgins (and I have no doubt she would have been the first to complain).

SILVANA

I wonder if Stella's new crush will turn out to be a conman who knows AJ? He seemed sleazy to me. Thankfully LTS didn't call him 'my lord!'
Dominique's tux and church lady hat were hilarious. They're like three little kids playing dress up.

Silvana

"Vicente is like CREAM rising to the top." I agree, Anita!

The more I think about Chivis not turning in AJ to the police, can you imagine how Majo, not to mention the other girls and Trini, would react if she did?
Yipes.

Silvana. Excellent recap, novelera! I especially like "Less than Stellar"! Excellent remarks by all as well! I noticed that about Margarita's math skills also, Vivi! The clues just seem to keep piling up! Angie is so smart, I hope the writers don't have her stupidly not figure things out. And yes, Manuel is wonderful! He knows exactly what to say to comfort Chivis. Btw, when I teach my advanced conversation class I find myself adopting señora Trini's mannerisms. Should I be worried?

SpanProf: On Senora Acero 3: Did I see Sergio Goyri's character become the President of Mexico ?

Silvana

SpanProf- Yes, you should probably be a little worried. But as long as you don't try to convince anyone that they need to support their snob family by staying married to a rich criminal, you should be fine. That really annoyed me last night about Trini. She expects Chivis to keep them in luxury by staying with a guy who abandoned them without explanation or help. There is hope for her, since she has been willing to step in and help Don Benito (who deserves far more respect than he gets from her), but she needs to drop the attitude.

I just hope that Vicente doesn't take the path that Stella 2.0 took, and sticks with his Don Benito work hard and be a good person path. He's mentioned to Jorge about getting his education so he can get a good job and win the girl, which is such the wrong reason for picking a career. Make all the money so you can be financially secure and maybe travel first class on long flights, but to heck with the girl. She should still like you if you're stuck in coach with the rest of us schmos. (Angie will be up in first because she got a good career from all her hard work and no tolerance approach to nonsense, and she still won't be the snot her sister and grandmother are).

Kelly

SILVANA

I sincerely hope Trini is doing the cooking, cleaning, and laundry for the family instead of sitting on her fat youknowwhat playing candy crush all day while Chivis is out working. I usually FFWD--> thru her scenes. 😝

What is Majo doing with herself, these days? Not working. Not going to school. It will be interesting to see what Andres' mother thinks of that.

Majo and Trini are the most useless people on the planet. And in this telenovela.

Silvana. And Antonio José made yet another promise a couple of episodes ago that he would turn himself in immediately. Shouldn't that be happening?

SILVANA

Jude--What you surmise may be true. Wouldn't that be a classic set up where they both think the other one is rich? Shades of Eva Luna with the chauffeur and the maid (Francisco and Marisol).

I rechecked the scene at the golf club. The building looked rather swanky to be on a public golf course. Are we sure it was a public one? Maybe the 3 Stooges sneaked into a members only club. The guy did say he hadn't seen her around there before (so he isn't from out of town)--and he asked Stella "Maria" ---"Do you know so and so from Key Biscane?" Of course that might be a standard line to winnow out another estafadora.

SILVANA

SpanProf--I think AJ's promise was conditional on the two of them patching things up. That talk was interrupted by the two detectives who came calling. It might be kind of hard to do from jail/prison. Poor AJ, I feel sorry for his character. They are trying to make him the most unappealing person (next to MaJo) and they are succeeding.

Silvana

Anita, I agree that that golf course looked fabulous. But when the Three Stooges first got there to play a round of golf - before they hit the poor guy with a golf ball - Dominique, I think, mentioned it being a public course because Dumb Stella had already tried to go to the private one (probably the one Chivis used to belong to) and got the bad news about how much it cost to be a member there. And she'd already maxed out her cards on the Yorkie.

SpanProf, when AJ first got back to Miami, in a scene with Rafa, his lawyer/partner in crime, he said he was going to turn himself in so he could re-unite with his family. But he apparently thought Rafa could get him released on bail or own-recognizance right away. I was mystified he thought he wouldn't stay in jail until his trial because he'd already run off once. I know, I know, the telenovela legal system at its finest. He told Chivis about turning himself in, hoping she'd soften toward him, but I don't remember his saying he'd only turn himself in if she agreed to take him back [not that this didn't happen, just that my memory didn't store it if it did].

SILVANA

The whole golf course convo reminds me that I need to go look for my telenovela beanie hat. Pretty sure by now we need them. lol

Silvana. Disturbing development that the authorities are trying to seize all of Chivis' assets. I have heard of cases where the government pursued spouses of people who had committed tax fraud or owed the government back taxes, but could the authorities really take Chivis' property to pay off AJ's victims? And put her and her family out in the street? She definitely needs a good lawyer! The Stella plot line gets ever more ridiculous. Steve seems amused by her, and there's no way he could be taken in by her. But could he also be up to no good?

Silvana

Apologies for not posting Friday's recap yet - electricity was out most of today and I still haven't been able to watch the episode. Feel free to discuss what happened. I hope to get it done tonight.

Silvana. Since AJ hasn't even been found guilty of anything yet, how could the courts seize Chivis' property? What happened to innocent until proved guilty? We have British common law here, not the Napoleonic Code.

SILVANA
SpanProf--You bring up a salient point. How were the authorities even able to seize his mansion and foreclose on his property at the beginning without proper notification? I can see AJ cleaning out their accounts and skedaddling, but household furnishings, clothing, etc.? Here, when a court intervenes, the "injured" party is at least allowed to keep some belongings, sometimes even a house and a car. The writers need to go back to the drawing board on this one, but then we wouldn't have had much of a story.

Silvana

Very good point about the embargoing, SpanProf. I see Anita thinks so, too. Great minds think alike :-). I'm running late, gotta go.

Silvana. Now if Antonio Jose borrowed heavily against the mortgage on their house, to either help finance his scams or to give him more money to flee the country with, I could see a BANK foreclosing and seizing the house itself, but I think the government couldn't seize property without an actual trial.

Silvana

J, don't worry about the recap. Sorry about the loss of electricity. Are you in the East? It seems like many of our telenovela buddies have had utility problems in the last couple of months. The last time I remember losing power for more than an hour or two was the 1989 big earthquake. My house survived just fine, books fell off the shelves and the front planter developed a huge crack and had to be torn down and rebuilt. But I had friends living in the hills whose houses had to be completely torn down.

All I can say, guys, is: another example of The Telenovela Justice System. Your disagreements with the government seizure are on a par with our outright amazement at the jury trials (and in the US) where we see perjury and members of the public standing up to comment on the proceedings. Complete trials for murder and the sentencing take one, maybe two nights of the show.

It seems to me that the "seizure" letter may be a ploy to get Chivis to tell them where AJ is. But maybe not. I certainly did not see that coming.

Also, Steve invited Stella back to his mansion, so maybe he has one. Maybe we're looking for his being shady because we're giving the writers too much credit for plausibility. They may really be going with a cultured head of industry having a thing for Less Than Stellar. It was sad seeing poor Poncho, forced into his chauffeur outfit and peering into the restaurant at the woman he loves with another man. I KNOW they're going with Stella ending up with him, but how could he EVER forgive all the things she's done and said to him?

Silvana

Steve seems like he is on the level. That is how the character appears to be portrayed by the actor. Probably, at some point, Stella will out her own self and that will be the end of them. Steve smelling fish, though, was a big funny and a bit sad (for Stella's sake) at the same time.

Silvana. I suspect you're right, novelera, that the seizure letter is a ploy to give up AJ to the detectives. I believe they're allowed a certain amount of deception to flush out a criminal.

Silvana. to get Chivis to give up AJ to the detectives, that is.

Silvana

Just a quick note to say that Telemundo announced on Friday that there would be no Silvana sin Lana episode on Monday because of the debate between Clinton and Trump. I'm pretty sure that none of the evening novelas will be shown on Monday.

Silvana sin Lana - Friday, September 23 - Capítulo 48, part 1/2

Benji yells at Margarita for sending messages to his computer and Angie almost catching on. She yells at him for sending messages to other girls and Jorge almost catching him. Jorge walks in and wants to know why they’re fighting. They laugh it off and Margarita says she wanted Benji to teach her more math for the SATs but Angie was too jealous so he said no. Jorge isn’t really convinced since Margarita is already good at math, but he seems to let it go.

Stella accepts an invitation from Steve for drinks in front of Manuel (on the phone).

Andrés’ mother, Laura, has returned early from her trip. She gives a warm welcome to Majo and Andrés. She also advises Majo to talk to Chivis. After she leaves, Majo freaks out a little to Andrés, saying his mother hates her and thinks she’s not good enough for him. Andrés reminds her that his mother agreed to let her live there. He asks about Lupita.

Lupita prays in her room. She doesn’t understand why AJ and Majo both left.

Majo tells Andrés about seeing Chivis and Manuel kissing.

Lucha talks to Vicente about him going to the university. He apologized to Andrés, and he did it for her, for Manuel, for himself, and for Majo. Lucha is surprised to find out that Majo is living with Andrés, especially since they are conservative and living together before marriage is a big no-no for them. She points out that it’s obvious Majo left the house not solely because of Vicente, but also because she caught Chivis and Manuel together. Vicente wants to know what Lucha knows about them.

Majo’s friend asks her to sell her super exclusive clothes as a part-time job. Chivis calls Andrés and Majo doesn’t want to talk to her, so he lies and says he’s not with her at the moment. He advises Majo to talk to her mother.

Lucha can tell that Vicente already knew about Chivis and Manuel. She doesn’t understand why the men in the family are all so enamored with the fresa neighbors. Vicente points out she’s also part of the family, referring to her liking the fresa Andrés. She claims it was nothing and nothing will ever happen between them.

Stella rented a red convertible for her date. Dom can’t be the driver though since it’s a manual transmission, so Poncho has to put on a suit and do it instead.

Mauro and Lucha arrive home from the hospital. She’s still angry about her father and Chivis, but she doesn’t really know why. Mauro ends up kissing her twice. Lucha is surprised, but doesn’t seem to mind too much.

Silvana sin Lana - Friday, September 23 - Capítulo 48, part 2/2

Angie offers to work more hours to help Chivis. Chivis wonders if Angie wants to see Benji more. Angie admits she does like him a little bit, but she doesn’t want to get hurt like she did with Jorge. Chivis encourages her to go for it with Benji.

Poncho waits at the car outside. He starts looking through the window of the restaurant and sees Stella and Steve at their table. Stella makes a ton of mistakes but is able to talk her way out of them. Steve invites her back to his mansion. She talks her way out of that too. Steve thinks it’s weird that he smells fish in a restaurant that only serves meat. Stella gets nervous and runs off to the bathroom.

Cata sends sexy photos to Manuel. Pedrito sees one of them when he comes into the room.

Lupita is upset about Majo leaving the house. Chivis offers to let her sleep in her bed with her. After Lupita goes upstairs, a notice of embargo is delivered.

Benji arrives to see Angie. Chivis tells him to go upstairs. He kisses Angie and of course Lupita sees them again. Angie would have preferred that no one saw them or knew about them, at least not yet. Benji knows she still likes Jorge and offers to step aside.

Chivis goes to Manuel’s to show him the letter. He doesn’t think they can take the stuff she bought with her own money, but she thinks that since she is still married to AJ, it doesn’t matter and they can take everything. She’s afraid she’s going to end up on the street again.

Silvana. Excellent recap, J. I'm glad your electricity was restored! Benjy reveals kind of a nasty streak in his fight with Margarita. The SATs are pretty high stakes, so that's actually a fairly reasonable explanation for even a good math student to get extra help to prepare. Selling high-end clothing seems like a very appropriate job for MJ.

Silvana

Doesn't Florida have special laws against seizure of home residences? That is why OJ decided to move from California to Florida, since the authorities couldn't seize his house, even though the Goldman's and Brown families are owed millions of dollars in the wrongful death lawsuit.

Of course Chivis is only renting her house (right?), so she may not be able to prevent seizure of her house and furniture.

SILVANA:

J- I'm so glad you have electricity again. Thank you so much for being so committed to doing a recap. Great questions, everyone, about the legality of embargoing Chivis. Yes, I think we need out beanies.

Andres' mom seems quite nice. Not sure why Majo thinks she doesn't like her (although I know, if I were Andres' mom, I likely wouldn't).

SILVANA

J - Thank you for the recap! Plz don't stress over the power outage. It happens. Nothing anyone can do about it. Thank you again for your dedication.

According to a legal eagle friend of ours, If any of the money Chivis used to furnish their current home or buy the van came from funds that AJ provided before he left town, e.g., a savings account or rainy day fund, then those items can be taken away. The thing is, Viewerville does not know where Chivis got the money to furnish their duplex or buy the van, etc. and their new home was furnished by her before she got the job at Manuel's.
It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.

Stella's makeover, clothes, very nice rental car must be costing her a small fortune. I had to smile when she rented a stick shift because it's cheaper, so she isn't blowing all her savings. Hopefully Esteve is not going to try to scam her.

Silvana

Wow, J, I'm impressed both with your recap AND with your dedication. Thanks very much for overcoming all the obstacles and producing another excellent recap.

I'm still unsure whether Steve is the rich executive he claims to be. Do people who live in mansions refer to them as mansions?

I'm also wondering about the relationship between Andrés and his mother. He seemed perhaps a bit too excited upon seeing her. I'm not sure where I want to go with this, so I think I'll quit while I'm ahead.

SILVANA

Umm does Mauro have a combover?

SILVANA

J-Ditto on being impressed with your recaps and dedication to interpreting our fast-talking actors. Thank you for both.

My, my, there is a chink in MaJo's cocoon of self-confidence and high self-esteem. She comes off as a superior being, except when she's begging something from Andres, though. Now, here did she get the notion that Andres' mother hates her? Has Andres heard it before? I guess we'll get that story ... tomorrow. Yes, I agree, I found Andres' greeting of his mother a little bit weird. That hug and happy jiggle went on far too long. Other than that, she seems like a decent person. We shall see if she has another face.

Goblue--Another detail lost in the weeds. To quote from Juanita's recap in Episode 1--HOUSE: "Silvana arrives home and announces that she has found a house to rent. No, it's not exactly near here, but it's centrally located and there's a bus stop close by."

Other forgotten tidbits from Episode 1--CAR: "Manuel drops Vincente off at their house just as Silvana drives by, checking an address or perhaps the GPS on her phone. She backs up just as Manuel has started to drive forward and the two vehicles collide." Sil calls the lawyer and he tells her there is no automobile insurance. I can't remember now what happened to the car. Didn't she sell it to give the money to Manuel to have his truck repaired? HELP!

Also from Episode 1--MaJo's LIFE TRAJECTORY: "The oldest, Maria José, says she doesn't want to study accounting. "Then why are you studying hotel administration," asks Silvana. "To travel," says MJ. She adds that she and Andrés will marry soon, and then she won't have to work." Now we remember why she resisted working and studying.

ASSET SEIZURE: "He [the lawyer] informs her that her husband had been having serious money problems for quite some time. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asks. "I thought you knew," he replies. Everything has been sold--the house in Acapulco, the stocks in her name, everything. "Well," she says, "at least we have our house." Oops. That too has been sold, and they have to move out in a week."

SILVANA

"Umm does Mauro have a combover?". LOL! Now we get to the really important stuff. BwaHahahahahaaaa! I will have to pay attention to that.

BTW, Andres' mother's face looked rather odd to me, like she has a very bad cosmetic surgeon, misplaced Botox, or something.
