Mi marido tiene familia Monday 9/4/17 Capítulo 10: Too Much Tequila

The bar: Blanca and her sisters Belén and Linda continue their tequila shots. They are all tipsy at this point especially Blanca. Blanca is is telling the story of what happened at the marketplace so many years ago. The pain was so bad that she didn't know when she left her little boy go. She kept calling for him as strangers took her to the hospital. She accepts that what happened was her and her son's destiny. Yes, destiny can be that cruel. Blanca thinks back again to the hospital how after her baby was born she was still asking for her son. She struggled to leave her hospital room to go looking for her Juan Pablo or at least to find a phone but the nurses held her back. After all this time, Blanca still feels so responsible even though her sisters remind her that she fainted in the middle of it all. Her sisters say she was not guilty of anything. Blanca is now sobbing. Amalia thinks it is time to ask for the check. Belén orders another bottle instead and yes! she will pay for it. Belén asks Blanca about maybe having a symbolic type of funeral with a gravesite at the cemetery so she could visit Juan Pablo. That just starts a drunk Blanca sobbing again but then she agrees slurringly that at least she would have a place to go and cry. After making another toast Blanca decides they should all sing. She needs to sing and smile but then she starts sobbing. She imitates her dance instructor laughs, sobs and has another shot. The sisters start to sing.

Imelda's house--Imelda is on the phone with Ana who stopped by to see her earlier but she wasn't in. Ana tells her that Tulio her son is at home. Does Imelda want to talk to him? Imelda insists on going over to Ana's to see Tulio. She wants Ana to send her driver for her and not tell her son she is coming. She wants to see if he will even remember who she is. Ana asks if she is sure. Imelda says she can always take a taxi. Ana looks upset.

Hospital hallway--Robert talks to a colleague Dr. Octavio about his memory fragments and asks him if he could have a session with him. No problem and if it is something he cannot help him with he will refer him to someone else. He teases Robert about charging him for the visit.

Outside the apartment building--Julieta runs into Gabriel. He says he is there because she didn't sign one clause of the contract and he hands her an envelope. She just grins. She knows he is just there to find out more about the girl. What girl? He asks her to just sign what he needs and as luck would have it Daniela is coming down the street. Julieta notices he is all nervous. He asks her to play along. As they are perusing the contract, Daniela arrives. Julieta and Gabriel explain how they know each other. Daniela starts sniping about it being such an unpleasant occurrence to see him. He says he thought it would have been a pleasure or an honor for anyone to see him. She thinks not. Julieta asks where they know each other from. Daniela tells her from the garbage dumpster. Julieta invites them both in for a coffee. Daniela thanks her, pushes Gabriel aside and goes inside leaving Gabriel confused on the sidewalk. Julieta admits that Daniela was a little stranger than she thought and she was all ready to be their "Celestina"(famous matchmaker in Spanish literature) in their love story. Gabriel insists it is not a love story. A love story does not come from garbage. Julieta has to point out that there so many girls that are just dying for him that Daniela must be the first one that isn't interested. He is still arguing as Julieta goes inside. He follows her in for that coffee.

Ana's house--Imelda has arrived. Tulio comes out and whispers to Ana that he does not have time to see his mother. Ana explains that she wanted to see him. He tells her she should have asked him if he had the time. Ana repeats it is his mother. Tulio seems to think it is Ana's job to take care of her and attend to her. That is what she is there for. She has nothing else to do. Ana would like to go to work but he won't let her. Tulio doesn't have time for his mother. He pushes his way past Ana to talk to Imelda. Imelda asks if he has even five minutes for her. Tulio said she came at a bad time. Imelda reminds that every time is a bad time for him. She tells him he is a fool who is ashamed of where he came from and his family and looks down on them. He insists that is not true. Well, that is how she feels and if it is true that he doesn't want any contact with them then he should just one out and say it. He says he understands her anger but now is not the time to talk about it. Why don't they schedule a meal and they can talk. As his mother, Imelda is not about to "schedule" any meals. He leaves. Imelda asks Ana how she puts up with Tulio. Ana explains that she has no children and no profession so she feels she has no choice but to put up with it. Imelda tells her she is worth so much. She should never submit to a situation like this. To Imelda it seems like she is doing a prison sentence. Just at that moment, Ana remembers Juan Pablo calling out for his mother in the market and her grabbing him by the arm. Ana looks stricken. Imelda wants to know what is on her mind. Not being able to have children is on Ana's mind as well as not being so young or successful. Aren't those reasons enough to be resigned to what she has? Imelda says no. Those are her own limits she has placed on herself. Imelda is sure there is something else that must have happened to her. She has always believed that. Whenever she wants to talk to her about it, she can count on her being there. Ana insists there isn't anything else. Ana starts to cry. Imelda wipes away her tears.

Hospital cafeteria-- Robert and Octavio are having lunch and Octavio is explaining how his mind has blocked the memories of his past so he would not relive the pain. Now being back in Oaxaca is providing stimuli, clues, etc.that his mind is trying to make sense of. So, he wants Roberto to start making a list of new things/people happening in his life. The answer could be there. Robert gets a call from his dad in the US asking if he got the box he sent him. Robert hasn't seen it. As we cut away to . . .

The bakery-- A woman is opening up a cardboard box next to Eugenio. Oops! It looks like she made a mistake because it is full of clothes and toys. It is for a "Robert Cooper." Eugenio says it belongs to their new neighbor and he takes charge of the box. He looks in it and is shocked by the child's red sweater he finds.

Julieta's apartment--Gabriel still insists he came to see Julieta and not Daniela. It is time for him to go. Julieta physically moves him to the door. He wants to know if he can come back for dinner.

The bakery--A female baker wants to know if Eugenio is feeling okay. He is fine but does not look fine. He shoves the sweater back into the box when Audifaz's wife Lolita comes by looking for bread. To her delight, he just tells her to just take what she wants. He is preoccupied with the sweater. She says he looks like he saw a ghost. He tells her to tell Audifaz that his bill is getting bigger. He leaves with the box.

Ana's House--Over coffee, Imelda is telling Ana how important she is to her and how she likes to se her smile but has been the same routine all of these years with her. Ana tells her sometimes it is best to just let things well enough alone. Imelda knows she is not happy. Ana asks who is. Imelda says she is right but Imelda sees her having a secret that keeps her in a "golden cage." What is it? Ana is not talking.

Daniela's family's apartment--Daniela hears Gabriel and Julieta in the hallway outside of her door. Julieta is encouraging to knock on the door and talk to Daniela. He is hesitant. Julieta knocks. Daniela answers. Julieta explains that Gabriel would like some tea but she doesn't have any so could Daniela help her out. Julieta has a lot to do. She leaves Gabriel and goes back to her own apartment. Daniela asks if he would like tea or should she just close the door. He accepts and goes inside. Daniela asks if he is just doing all of this to bother her. She does not let him answer and asks if he wants tea or coffee. Why is she so rude? Daniela does not think she is rude. She is just direct. He gets closer and closer to her and asks why she doesn't like him. She sort of smiles says she kind of likes him. They almost kiss but she stops it by jumping back and saying how stupid all of this is. He just smiles, shakes his head and says he'll take tea. She says he sounded weird when he said that. He agrees.

Julieta's apartment--Julieta's doorbell rings and it is Eugenio with Robert's box. She says it must be the one from his adoptive parents he was expecting. He wants her to go through it and make sure everything is there because they opened it by accident. Julieta starts going through the contents of the box. Eugenio would like to ask her a question about where the box came from and some more information. The box came from New York. Robert's adoptive parents are Colombian American. Robert was born in Mexico. Robert's parents abandoned him and he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Cooper. Why does he want to know all of this asks Julieta. He just wants to make sure the contents are all there. Julieta thanks him and he leaves. She thinks the landlords are even bigger gossips than she originally thought.

Daniela's family's apartment-- Daniela is smiling and she and Gabriel seem to be enjoying a truce when she trips and spills the cup of tea she made all over him. She wildly tries to wipe it off his shirt and he just asks her too be a little more gentle. She agrees. He grabs her hands and they kiss. She freaks out. They cannot look at each other. The door knob to the apartment starts to turn. Daniela grabs Gabriel's hand and pulls him into another room because she thinks it is her mother. They hide under the dining room table. It is Eugenio lost in thought. He goes to his bedroom and sits on the bed. Daniela manages to get Gabriel to the door. He wants to go see her father about the money she owes him. She grabs him by the hair and throws him out. She has never introduced a boyfriend to her dad and he won't be the first. She tells him to go and forget about what happened. He is the worst thing that ever happened to her and to never come back. She slams the door. He says goodbye through the the peep hole.

Robert's office--Robert tells Octavio how everything changed when he arrived at the apartment building. There was so much that seemed familiar. It must be similar to where he was born. Octavio tells him to write a list of all of the stimuli he has noticed since his arrival. Examples could be a person or a smell. That will give him clues.

The bar--Blanca and her sisters are still drinking. Blanca has decided that it is time to go make supper. They don't want her to go. They are all drunk and silly. Blanca is finally smiling. They are singing.

On the street--Julieta walking with Robert is telling him how Eugenio asked her so many questions which is just more proof of how gossipy the neighbors are. Robert doesn't see anything wrong with them being curious. He also wants to talk about her wanting to go to the US. He thinks she is rushing things. He cannot just up and leave the children that need him. He wants the foundation to keep growing. Julieta says she can help children there, too. Also, he is connecting with his past in the neightborhood. They can go on thinking about these issues but right now Julieta is hungry.

The bar--Julieta and Robert go into the bar where Blanca is with her sisters. When Julieta sees them she wants to leave. They all see Julieta and Robert and are waving at them. The waiter seats Julieta and Robert right next to Blanca and her sisters. Blanca gets up and pulls their table over so they can all sit together. Julieta in her chair does not move. Robert has to physically pull her over in her chair. Blanca introduces them to her sisters as the "new neighbors". Amalia pipes up with they are they ones she isn't too crazy about. Blanca says no, they are perfect! Blanca offers them some tequila. Julieta doesn't want any. The sisters start chanting: "Drink, drink" and "Down! Down!" until she and Robert drink their shots.

Outside the apartment building--Ana has just brought Imelda home. As the driver starts to take Ana home, she tells him to stop. She has seen Julián and goes after him. He is gone but she wonders why he is hanging around and what he wants.

Outside Imelda's apartment--Imelda runs into her grandson Aristiófeles. Someday he has to stop by and she will make him whatever he wants to eat and they are going to catch up.

Daniela's family's apartment--Linda tells Daniela she has to be more careful with her hands at work. Daniela feels nauseous. She has a confession. Just a short while ago, she kissed a boy. Linda is shocked but thanks God because she always thought . . . Linda wants all of the details. It was Gabriel. She's brushed her teeth like a thousand times since. It just feels weird. It was her first kiss. Linda suggests she gargle and she does. At the same time, Gabriel is using what looks like is a whole tube of tooth paste on his teeth. Imelda notices that something very strange is going on with Eugenio and wants to know where Blanca is. The girls tell her she is out with her sisters.

The bar--Robert starts dancing with Amalia and Belén and Julieta is left at the table with Blanca. Julieta is left with Blanca at the table. Julieta says their family is all the same. Blanca calls her a bore and wants to know who would be worried about acting goofy at a taco place. It isn't a five star restaurant. Julieta has to correct her and says hotels have five stars. Blanca says it is good they are face to face because she has some things to say to her. Julieta says she has never met anyone who could get on her nerves like Blanca. Blanca thinks Julieta's problem is that she thinks she is more than what she actually is. Blanca thinks her boyfriend is great and that he deserves a great woman. Julieta suggests just like Blanca. Blanca thinks it is good they have not married yet because in a couple of years he will realize that Julieta is not "the one." Julieta asks her how she would even dare say something like that. Blanca just keeps smiling and drinking. Blanca says Julieta's air of superiority just hits her in the face. Julieta says they will be just "next-door" neighbors nothing else. Blanca says they will never be friends or even get along. Julieta agrees it will never happen. Julieta wants Blanca to tell her to her face why she dislikes her so much. Blanca puts her arm around Julieta. Julieta is haughty, very stuck-up as if she is too good for the world. What is more is that she has it all: a guy who is intelligent and good looking. He is much nicer than she is. She is independent with her own work. She does what she likes. She is not a slave in her own house. On the other hand, Blanca got married when she was twenty. She has spent her whole life being the wife of, mother of, etc. somebody. She lives to please her mother-in-law. She has sacrificed and never has had anything of her own. Her life is dying little by little each day. She has her daughters but feels so alone. She is in tears as she says she is nothing. Julieta tells her not to cry. All women suffer because of something. Julieta is also tired and saturated by work. She has the best boyfriend but she wants to go to New York. Blanca is just like her mother, she only sees the things that are bad about her. Julieta asks if she does not have one good thing about her. They are both crying as Blanca says that we women are very cruel. Blanca actually tries to wipe some tears off of Julieta's face.

Ana's house--The phone rings. Ana answers. It is Julián Guerra. He wants them to talk. When can he see her? She will call him back. Ana is upset.

Jarifa, you are a master storyteller. You capture every word, gesture and nuance to perfection.

What can I say? I loved the episode but the summary even more.

Thank you for explaining "Celestina” - I enjoy learning and I do here. Every day.

Tonight, was pure Blanca. "That just starts a drunk Blanca sobbing again but then she agrees slurringly that at least she would have a place to go and cry".

The flashback was painful. I give credit to both Blanca and Eugenio. Both survived despite their still open wounds. Blanca by raw hope and Eugenio from painful resignation.

Finally a clue for Eugenio! I could not figure out anything he and Julieta said so thank you for explaining it so well Jarifa. I think deep in his heart, a seed of doubt has sprouted. I hope it is nurtured and quickly.

How could "She is in tears as she says she is nothing. Julieta tells her not to cry. All women suffer because of something" not tug at your heartstrings??

I so enjoyed the dancing. Robert was tailor made for Daniel Arenas. He is charming yet vulnerable.

"He says he thought it would have been a pleasure or an honor for anyone to see him. She thinks not". Ha!

I like Gabriel and the actor who manages to keep the character slightly boyish and sweet rather than totally obnoxious.

The loser last night was poor Julieta. She is unknowingly digging herself in deeper. We know she is a smart woman. I wish she picked up on Eugenio's questions as being uncharacteristic instead of complaining he asked them at all. I am hoping Julieta and Blanca will shed their mutual distrust and start to bond soon.

I hope Julian makes Ana's life at least a quarter as miserable as she has made Blanca and Eugenio's. If they wish to forgive Ana, so be it. I will not...

Superb Jarifa. Superb.

Diana

Diana, thanks! What a way to start the day! : )

I liked your analysis of Blanca surviving "by raw hope and Eugenio from painful resignation."

The first time I saw Daniel Arenas was in "Corazón indomable". The novela wasn't very good but he was.

Gabriel is growing on me. I thought I was just going to gloss over his scenes with Daniela but I actually found them entertaining. Her discussion with Linda was hysterical.

Tulio showed himself to be quite lacking as a husband and son. I felt sorry for Imelda after that exchange.

Yes, ITA, Julieta just keeps digging herself in deeper. She seems to shoot herself in the foot by always saying too much. She really does not seem to be close to anyone except Robert. I loved the final scene with her and Blanca laying their cards on the table and being totally honest in their drunkenness. I wonder how much they will remember of the conversation, the next day.

Thank you, Jarifa, for another excellent recap of all the crazy.

The actor playing Gabriel is pretty funny in this tn. He played a much different part in PyP and had a very different look.

I like the interactions virtue sisters. My mother was very close to her sisters, but they did not go out drinking together.

Virtue???...that was supposed to be " interaction"...need coffee.☕

Susanlynn, you are playing my song. I always blame it on the keyboard.

No..that was supposed to be "between" ..where's my coffee?☕☕☕

Jarifa...teehee .I blame it on trying to type while doing something else and not proof reading before I publish. !!!

Jarifa, thank you for this masterful recap!

There are so many good story lines in this TN, but I do look forward to seeing Gabriel and Daniela go at each other...they were hilarious last night. If they ever "get together" it's going to be an explosion.

I may be a lone ranger here, but I feel so sorry for Eugenio. The actor is doing an excellent portrayal of a father who was devastated to lose his son to the point of preferring to think of his son as dead. Now that he has doubts, I can just imagine how guilty he is going to feel about that and how he will come to terms with the fact that he finally convinced Blanca to accept that her son is dead...when he isn't. In a way I'm glad is he who is the one that is going to "find' his long, lost son. Had it been Blanca again, he may be more skeptical about that possibility.

We finally found out how Ana came upon Juan Pablo at the market...could she have been following Blanca? Or did she just happen to be there? She look so bitter even when she was young and pulled Juan Pablo away. I'm also anxious to find out why Tulio is so bitter; he is so different from the other 2 brothers.

Susy, "I like the interactions of the virtue sisters." Me too! They are each different, but always seem to be there for each other. My mom had two sisters; they didn't drink either, but when they got together you would think they really were drinking, laughter galore!

Haha...Susy, I thought you were making a joke and went along with it...

Oh no Rgv Chick, you aren't alone.

My heart went out to Eugenio. He has survived by hardening his heart. That was his salvation - bitter as it was.

The wheels are turning.

It seemed to me Ana was following Blanca. My first thought was that she was going to steal the baby if she went into labor in the market. Geez, can you tell I do not like her??

Now I'm hoping I can finally go to Ramon and read your recap.

Diana

RGVChick, Count me in as being an Eugenio fan, too. In the face of tragedy, there are all different ways of coping.

Diana, I like the baby stealing possibility. Very interesting!

Thanks Jarifa!
Don't have time to watch the episode but I'm praying for everyone living in Florida, Miami, Puerto Rico or anyone else living on path of Caribbean Islands should prepare for Hurricane Irma which has just turned into Cat 5(175 mph). Hurricane Jose is also forming.

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/09/05/us/hurricane-irma-puerto-rico-florida/index.html

Countx, thank you for the update. What an absolutely tragic hurricaine season this year!

Very odd last night: a short scene of Robert talking to a young burn victim as he receives a painful treatment. It was edited into a scene it had nothing to do with and there was no audio. It gave a a real choppy "what in the heck was that?" feel. Anybody else bothered by it?

Jarifa, at the very beginning of the TN, there was a little boy that came into the hospital with severe burns. Robert has been treating him all along and even offered to have the his foundation cover the hospital costs when the mother told him she couldn't afford to pay for the treatments. There was a (Mexican) episode I watched where they show Robert and some of his colleagues take a cake to the little boy to celebrate his progress. During that scene, Robert told the little boy there was one more fear he had to conquer--that of fire. So he asked the little boy if he was willing to try and the little boy hesitantly agreed. When Robert then took a candle for the cake and flicked his lighter, the little boy flinched but was able to blow out the candle. Everyone cheered for him. It was a touching scene that showed more of Robert's tender side and love for children.

I've only watched a few of the Mexican episodes, so I know they are cutting scenes here and there. Some are not as critical, but do explain things better if they were to show them. For example, there was a scene where Daniela wakes up at work after working late into the evening. Her buddy there wakes her up and advises her that she needs to have a life outside of work. She tehn complains about Gabriel pestering her, so her buddy tells her that if she needs his help, he'll be glad to handle Gabriel, but Daniela refuses his help because she is used to handling things for herself.

RGVChick, Very interesting! Thanks for the information . I have not seen any of the Mexican episodes for this one. This scene was odd because I did not remember seeing that child and his burned thigh anywhere else and the scene was short and seemed intrusive.

Eugenio's way of dealing with his loss is not unusual. Hubba is a very sweet guy, but he never says our son's name or talks about him. When I do, he just listens. My dad never said his name. I think that closing the door on the loss is pretty typical male behavior.

Kirby...I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope that the bad weather misses you.

Oh Susanlynn...Enveloping you with warm, loving hugs. You know full well the pain of complete and utter loss and devastation..

Diana

Thank you for bringing the young boy up Jarifa and for your answer Rgv Chick.

I am sad that this is being chopped. That said, is that typical? There is so much going on in this, every deleted scene is a loss.

I think Robert is one of the truest, nicest galans we've seen in quite a few years.

Diana

Again, to all active members and lurkers if you are on path with Caribbean Islands stay prepared and please EVACUATE if you can before the highways get too tight especially in South Florida, Miami, Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, Cuba. The situations seems quite dire.. I hope it misses you all.

Regarding the burnt kid I felt quite sorry for him but he stood to his fear like a champ. I also agree with DA channeling his true galan here. Robert helping the poor child out despite risking a career is his most heroic act besides helping out Ismelda and catching Julian. He's like the Good Samaritan.

Count yes, wishing all our patio folks safety. Good advice to evacuate if you are in the path.

Good Samaritan is a great description of Robert.

Diana

Great recap Jarifa!!!

Diana, glad to see you back on the patio!

I love the Gabi scenes. He has totally won me over. I didn't care for his character in PyP but he is great here.

Rob dancing with his Aunts was funny too. Definitely a member of the family.

Eugenio broke my heart. Where does he go from here? Does he have the strength to investigate on his own?

Juli and Blanca ended together last night. Hopefully a detente. Looks to me Blanca admitted a slight jealousy of Juli..her having a career and independent. Together agreeing that women are cruel will hopefully stop them from over judging each other.

Hopefully Eugenio will do all the investigating on his own, without a peep to anyone, including sneaking a DNA test until he has positive proof, then present the prodigal son, along with the proof, to the family (including Robert and Julieta) who will all find out at the same time.

Oh yes I remember watching that episode! The most powerful scene for me was the scene between Juli and Blanca where they not only learn that both have something in common but that their mutual dislike is a force of nature, a clash of responsibility, obligation, jealousy and deep pain.

Also, Ana would be crazy to meet with Julian. He has no proof of anything. He's just searching for something to use against her.

What an awful life she has lived. Her husband and marriage are in name only. Does she stay just for the money to live off of? Looks like it. Maybe she does feel like she deserves to suffer based on her prior actions but she continues those bad actions now so hard to feel sorry for her.

Carvivle..yes, Ana has painted herself into a corner. Her husband seems like a very unlikable guy. It is terrible the way he treats his mother. It seems that Eugenio is the "good" son .

Susanlynn, I thought it was interesting that mama suegra accused Tulio of being ashamed of where he came from. We know nothing of the grandfather but Eugenio has a very nice business, home and owns the building. Audi has his real estate business which does okay. I'm assuming they steal food and drink because they are cheap. The family all seem respectable enough so why is Tulio so taciturn? I hope we find out.

Thanks, Jarifa. Fine job. I thought I'd left a comment earlier, but it seems to have gotten swallowed up.

Count me in at the Eugenio table. So glad he didn't tell Polita what was going on in his head about the little red sweater. She seems like a blabbermouth to me.

How ironic that Ana did such a cruel thing to the family, but Imelda cares enough about her to advise her not to put up with Tulio's crap. My guess is young Ana stole Robert in the first place to secure her thing with Tulio. Now Tulio could care less about her.
