Capítulo 31: Julieta in the Pressure Cooker of Life Thursday 10/5/17 Part 1

Julieta continues talking with Robert. He is worried about her nausea and fainintg. It sounds like malnutrition to him. She returns the cell phone to Hugo who leaves the room but stays by the door to eavesdrop. Julieta wants Diana to come with her to the hospital because Catalina her mother is there and now Robert wants her to have some tests. Diana doesn't know why Julieta doesn't tell Robert the truth. Julieta explains that Robert does not want to have chikdren. Diana sees it as a blessing. Hugo has just gotten an earful.

Linda is daydreaming about Bruno looking at his photo on her phone. He is her Brad Pitt, a combination of Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Bieber. She is just crazy about him. Eventhough he made her spend a whole lot of money, he's worth it. He is different than all of the others.

Daniela is arranging tables at the restaurant when Gabriel comes in. He offers her some Ice water because of all of the hard work she did just like a guy. She tells him that being a carpinter she always works twice as hard. Has she survived without getting a warning? He reminds her she is still on probation. Yes, she knows three strikes and she is fired. She drinks the water. He dismisses her. Another waiter comes over to tell him what a great addition Daniela is. They aren't going to find a better employee than she. When he refers to her great body that must be under than uniform, Gabriel warns him not to bother the girls if he does not want to get fired. Gabriel just watches Daniela working away.

Xavi is having a hard time at the shopping center with the guy that hired him. There is a stage outside and some chairs set up in front of it. There is a background with his name and a photo of him for the past. It says "Famous Artist From Past Decades" under his name. The guy(Rufo) tells him he will have two dancers for his show just like in the old days. Also, he reminds him that the people are gong to want to hear his hits from the past. Xavi doesn't want them to recognize him. He has new songs. Rufo tells him it is his job to attract the greatest number of people that he can or he will not get paid. He hands him the microphone and leaves. Rufo comes back and wants to know if Xavi is going to perform or not. He tells him to take off his sun glasses. If he didn't want to do it, he should have told him before. He hands him a guitar Does he want the money or not? He just has to put on his mambo sleeves.

Julieta has made it to the hospital and as she is asking Catalina about when Bruno stopped attending classes and informing her that his cash machine has closed, Catalina gets a text from Hugo telling her that Julieta is pregnant. Now Catalina gets it all. Julieta has to save because her family is growing. She knows Julieta's secret and that she hasn't told Robert. Robert overhears and asks what is it that Julieta has not told him. He hates to insist but she has been sort of strange lately. It was just that she hadn't told hiim that there was some friction in between her mother and his. Robert realizes that's and thinks they just need to know each other better.

Amalia is at the store with Belén and has entered a singing contest on the radio. She has lied about who she is. She tells them her name is Minerva de la Sierra. She is twenty two and blonde. She sings on her phone and it is broadcast. The public voteds and she wins the weekly vote, She now can go straight through to the finals.
 

Thursday Part 2

Robert leaves and Julieta is left with Catalina who says now she has a reason to be with Julieta: to take care of her and her grandchild. She waves her cell phone. Julieta just knew that Catalina was going to try and blackmail her with the information about her pregnancy. Why has she not told Robert? Julieta doesn't think it is the right time. Catalina is a tomb. Robert is back. He thinks Julieta should have some tests. Julieta feels perfect and is not going to have any tests. Julieta is going to take her mother home. Catalina complains that she cannot go home abandoned. She was almost electrocuted! Robert thinks it is better that she stays with them for just a few days. Nobody is listening to Julieta so she finally gives in. On their way out, Catalina asks again about not saying anything about being pregnant. Julieta says she can only imagine the reaction from Blanca and Imelda. They won't let her breathe. First, she has to tell Robert. Catalina says they would be like the stepmother from Cinderella. Now, Julieta wants to know why Catalina did not tell her that Bruno had left the university. Catalina goes on about her poor little Bruno. It was so boring for him. He needs help. Julieta says what he needs is a job. Julieta has to rebuild her own life and her future. Catalina thinks it would be better to have been electrocuted at least the war between them would be over. Why doesn't Catalina want to be home? She wants to help Julieta against Blanca and Imelda. She expects nothing in return. There are two of them and they will eat Julieta alive. Julieta insists she can take care of herself. Catalina gets three days with Julieta and then she needs to be home.

At the shopping plaza, Xavi starts to play and sing while one young dancer holds his microphone and sways with the music. People walk by but nobody bothers to take a seat. The performance has no life and is depressing. Rufo watches,from the sidelines. Nextbrhere is some recorded music and Xavi outs on his mambo sleeves. The three of them do some uninspired dance moves to the canned music. There is a small group of older people way in the back that seem to be appreciating what they are doing but they soon move off too. Frida comes by with a group of her classmates and she cannot believe what she is seeing. She starts to giggle and soon is gone, too.

Robert visits David with Octavio. Robert tells him he is going to get a special suit that will help with his treatment and make him strong and better. How does he feel? Fine but a little itchy. Robert reminds him that the itching means he is healing. David still wants his mother. Robert reminds him that they have to be strong and that nothing will stop them. He tells him that on the days he is sad, he will stop being his doctor and be his friend instead. As Octavio leads David away, Robert sees himself.

At the restaurant, Daniela waits on Gabriel pretending he is just another customer. She looks like she is enjoying her work. She makes a suggestion about the specialty on the menu. He asks her I f her boss is around. She says fortunately no. Is he hateful? Sometimes he is but he also has his good moments. Does her boss like to work here? Well, his placement here was a punishment for his father. She tells him one must be thankful to have a job. If one stays stuck in the past, one can ever get ahead. One cannot stay stuck in the past crying over what did happen or didn't. When she leaves, he is smiling.


 

Thursday Part 3

Julieta is leaving Catalina at her place to go back to work. She asks her to stay out of it with Blanca and Imelda. Catalina cannot stand them because they just want to invade her place and take ownership of Robert. Julieta saysnwell, they are his mother and grandmother. Julieta is not going to fight with her any mother or will she be blackmailed about her pregnancy. Catalina does not know why she is so afraid. She is afraid of not being a good mother as she told her before. Julieta accuses Catalina of being there just to manipulate her to somshendoes not lose what Julieta has been giving her.

Marisol is coming home with Frida. Frida tells her about Xavi performing at the shopping plaza. Marisol does not believe her. They run into Julieta. Marisol looks in her wallet and sees she has no money.She gets upset. Julieta asks what is wrong. She sees Julieta as successful and . . . Julieta offers to take her out for coffee and a talk.

Blanca and Imelda have a video chat with Robert. They ask how Catalina is and if she survived. He informs them she is resting at his place. Blanca sounds surprised that she is going to be staying there. When the conversation is over, Blanca and Imelda do not realize that the call has not been disconnected and Robert gets an earful of what they really think about Catalina.

As Robert disconnects the call he sees Ana leaving a building with Julián. This piques his interest. Ana is going to see Imelda and agrees to drop Julián off downtown. Julián loves Ana's vehicle. He tries to talk to the driver. Ana tells him not to distract the driver. She looks mortified. Little do they know but Robert is following them.

Marisol is telling Julieta that she wasn't prepared for the fallout when she separated from Ignacio. There has been criticism, comments and gossip. Julieta agrees thatntheynlve in such a closed society that they have to speak up in order to change it. They cannot be quiet. Marisol wants to know how Julieta did it. What everyone else has to say isn't important when one knows what they are doing. Juletansenses thatnMarisol feels good about leaving the man who mistreated her. Yes, but she is worried about Frida. She tells Julietanthay she knows she does not want children but when you have them, they change everything in your life. Nothing is the same. They turn into your life.


 

Thursday Part 4

Blanca has an idea of bringing food to Catalina. Imelda is not too sure. Blanca has been thinking. They need to treat others well even if they do not treat them well. Imelda cannot believe it. The food will be from both of them. Blanca wants Catalina to know that thy now how to act with class and that they are good people.

Julieta tells Marisol that The I portante thing is that she has to want to do something with her life, She has to have the desire, Marisol does. She wants to be strong, feel more, secure, get ahead on her own but what she really wants is for Frida to admire her. She is going to move on ahead, be happy, Julieta tells her she has to do it and not let anybody stop her. Marisol thanks her saying that her words alway give her the push she needs and she is back moving in the right direction again.

Rufo stops by to see Xavi with his money.. It seems Xavi is just getting half of what he was hired for because he did not attract enough people.

Blanca and Imelda have to bang on the door of Julieta's place (since the doorbell doesn't work) until Valatlina decides she is going to get up and answer the door. In the meantime, Blanca wonders if something happened to her like maybe she is dead. Catalina is not happy to see them. Blanca offers her food that is good enough to raise the dead. Blanca quickly apologizes. Catalina suspects that is what they really would have liked to have happened to her. Imelda calls Catalina rude. She calls them busybodies. They continue sniping at each other. Blanca blames it on the accident which must have crossed Catalina's wires. Blanca sn Imelda leave with their food.

Julián tries to kiss Ana's hand and then her cheek before exiting the SUV. Robert sees Julián being dropped off.

At work, Julieta is running her meeting but has an attack of nausea in the middle of it. Luz goes after her and asks if she has told Robert. When she hears she hasn't, she tells Julieta that she needs to go see a doctor. Julieta is overwhelmed.

 

Thursday Part 5

In the bakery, Blanca and Imelda talk. Blanca is worried that Julieta could end up like her mother. She also thinks that Julieta is pregnant.
Imelda is not too sure because Robert and Julietanwould have said something and you can't hide a pregnancy. Blanca says if they wait just a few weeks her belly will give them the answer. Eugenio comes out and laughingly says it is scary seeing the two of them together. Imelda says he makes them sound like some telenovela villains. Not at all answers Eugenio but "suegra and nuera unidas jamás serán vencidas". (A mother in law and daughter in law who are united will never be defeated.)

Robert has stopped off to see Robert and she is in a mood. She says she only asked him not to let Catalina stay. That is all she asked of him. He says it's is her mother, so it is hard for him to say no. She has asked him a thousand times not to do it because she knows how her mother is and she manipulates him all the time and now she is in their home. Robert says Julieta has been acting strange and more irritable especially with her mother. He could not leave her mother without help. According to Julieta, real problem is that Robert doesn't have any character. Robert answers with "excuse me"???Julieta is sorry but that is how she feels. He does not have the character to have her mother or his family respect his decisions. Robert asks what is wrong with his family now. She has put all of her effort into it, she swears but they live across the hall and they are invading them. She starts to cry.Everything has to be as they say. Why doesn't he establish some limits for them? Robert kindly asks what is going on with her. She isn't like this. She knows she isn't like this. Everything is changing. . . .

Jarifa, thank you for another extraordinary recap.

"The performance has no life" and "uninspired dance moves" were among many favorites.

“As Octavio leads David away, Robert sees himself”. My eyes filled. As with so many scenes with Robert, I am reminded that despite an experience that would have embittered most, he chose to live kindly, generously and with love.

I wondered last night if there might be a reason David’s mother has not returned. Robert thought he had been abandoned but nothing could be further from the truth. I sadly believe David’s mother is gone for good. If Robert and Julieta adopt David, everything will have come full circle. Robert’s adoption saved him, now he can pay it forward.

“…when you have them, they change everything in your life. Nothing is the same. They turn into your life”.. What lovely words from Marisol.

“He just has to put on his mambo sleeves”. And put away his pride. Purely painful to watch. While Xavi surely has the talent, he was not given the time of day to showcase his abilities. Amalia? Her singing was pure gold. Real and heartfelt.

Loved Dani and Gabi. He is clearly enthralled.

"She starts to cry. Everything has to be as they say. Why doesn't he establish some limits for them?" I agree but we have seen so much, most of what Robert has not been privy to.

So who doesn't know Julieta is pregnant? Almost everyone knows. Except Robert. He is going to be extremely upset if someone else beats telling him. And, despite the fact I feel for Julieta, she needs to tell him.

Diana, agree with so many of your comments, as always!

The whole Xavi thing was so painful to watch.

Gabi and Dani are wonderful. How much longer do we have to wait for these two to cross the line. It's driving me crazy!! ha ha

Juli is so right. Can't get rid of her mother, in laws won't stop bothering her, her hormones are going crazy and she can't control her body, i.e. morning sickness. For someone who needs control and order, her life is in total disarray. And I must admit I'm not sure Robert is going to be enough help. Blanca and Imelda are constantly at their door delivering food or something.

So Linda did buy Bruno a bunch of clothes. I wonder how much Bruno is doing this for Cloney and how much he really likes Linda? Of course he now has another woman buying him things. Boy these two are cut from the same cloth.

I'm still hoping little Diego's mother comes back for him. Being adopted by Robert would be great but that will never be enough to undo the pain of his mother abandoning him.

Amalia is too much. I fear she has put herself in a place to be humiliated again. Maybe she and Xavi can do a duet together?

I feel so bad for Julieta. I'm really surprised she hasn't had a panic attack since she is susceptible to those. I agree she does need to tell Robert who has been very accepting and passive with his family...and when he agreed to allow Cata to stay a few more days when he knows how Julieta feels, I cringed...he is giving in too easily; so I tend agree with Julieta, he has no "character." Hopefully when Julieta tells him about the baby, he grow some "character" and sets some strict limits for his family as well as Cata.

Dani And Gabriel are always a joy to watch, but has anyone noticed that they don't come out very often anymore? Could it be that they are becoming better liked than the main couple?
 

RGV, I feel like the writers are trying to draw out the Dani/Gabi relationship since they are the only likable couple, outside of Rob/Jules. No one likes Linda and Bruno, or as Diana puts it, cares about Hugo and Diana. Marisol and Xavi....well who knows about them. Maybe they feel the magic will be gone once Dani and Gabi stop making eyes at each other.

Steve, cross the line means succumb to their feelings and really make out. Not that tepid first kiss ages ago.

RGVChick, ITA about Robert and his approach to the families. He knows Julieta has a bad realationship with her mother yet he caved in to Catalina WITHOUT having talked to Julieta first. I think that is what annoyed me the most. He needs to grow a spine. He seems to talk a good job with his own family but doesn't follow through. He knows how Julieta feels (her feelings about needing alone time I am sure have not changed) but has done little to provide the buffer she needs while Julieta has just sucked it up until now.

Carvivlie, it seems that Xavi just can't move on. That is sad. That being said, he is another one that needs to get a job of some sort since music isn't doing it anymore.

Diana, ITA! If Robert and Julieta adopt Dave it would be so beautiful. They already have such a cute relationship and the fact that he saw himself....that's certainly a start.

RGV & Carvivlie I agree with your comments about Dani/Gabe. They're my favorite couple besides Julieta and Rob of course. You know I think based on what I have seen on social media they kind of have become really popular among the views so maybe they are dragging it to keep people watching. I know I enjoy the show and then end up asking myself I wonder when the next Dani/Gabe scene will be.

Speaking of which did you guys notice how Gabriel obviously feels like this job is not for him but Dani was pushing him by giving him her advice. I think that's what I like about them. They're two completely different but like puzzle pieces they come together fit perfectly. We've seen Gabriel trying to push past Dani's walls so I was very happy to see Dani being there to teach him about appreciating work and moving on.

I really love Marisol. I think her character was presented to us as the girl who listened to everything her parents said and got a husband started a family and is now facing the consequences of that turning around on her. I am looking forward to the way she grows as her own person and is able to prove she is a strong woman who will succeed for the sake of herself and her daughter. Now if she could just get a job. Was she the only one who didn't go to college? I think in a previous episode it was mentioned Linda majored in Cosmetology...not sure about Dani but if Linda went I imagine so did Dani? But are we supposed to assume Marisol went the get married way and didn't go to college?

Excellent recap, Jarifa! I expect that if Xavi starts playing and singing his new songs he may be a hit again--or at least be able to support himself with his music. Some of the Córsegas are quite wise, including Dani. Might Julieta be able to get Marisol a job?

I'm definitely on the Gabi/Dani bandwagon. Carvivlie, I also like that we are truly seeing this relationship germinate from the tiniest seedling. A real couple to root for.

SpanProf, I wondered if Marisol had any interest in fashion. The aunts seem to have that market cornered but there is so much more - marketing, etc. I keep thinking she will end up doing something with Xavi - bookings? I don't know but look forward to seeing where she lands...

Yep, I was disappointed about the futbol last night too. Btw, when Gabriel warned the mail server not to sexually harass the female staff or be fired, obviously it was because he himself is in love with Dani, but it was also a very good rule.

ITA I'm fine with Gabriel and Dani slow going cause they're so cute to watch. Gabriel was funny marking his territory (of course, I only like this when I like the guy), warning the other waiter about fraternizing.

Blanca doesn't watch TNs, or she'd know TN pregnancies don't start showing until the 9th month, just before the water breaks!

Julieta unloading on Robert was rough, but like all of you I agree with her. Robert, you're a sweet guy, but hombre protect your woman. EVERYBODY is invading her personal space, and somebody should've throttled Linda by now.
