Mi marido tiene familia Friday 11/3/17 Capítulo 53: The Last Straw

We pick up with Imelda still hell-bent on sticking her nose where it isn't wanted by looking for a solution to Julieta's problem. Blanca rejects the idea because she does not want to cause more problems. Imelda thinks they should think of themselves as Robert's and Julieta's guardian angels. They can do their investigation on the sly. Blanca ends up going along and with Polita they start researching ways to get pregnant on the internet.

Lázaro the driver breaks up Ana's rendezvous with Julián because Tulio is out looking for them. She leaves Julián's in a rush promising Lázaro even more money.

Amalia talks to Belén about Aurelio. Belén starts sobbing. Amalia doesn't understand why she is still crying about him. He abandoned her. He cheated on her with more than one woman and almost forced her to sign the divorce decree and took everything. Belén begs Amalia not to make her remember. It is her nightmare every single night. She wants to know where Amalia saw him and if he asked about her. Amalia wants to know why she would want to see him. So he can hurt her some more? Amalia also lets her know that he is Enzo's (their dance teacher) cousin. Belén is still sobbing as Amalia consoles her.

At Begoña's restaurant, Marisol talks to Xavi about his performance. Begoña is not happy to see Marisol there. She tells Ignacio to get Marisol out of her restaurant. Ignacio goes to take care of the problem identifying Marisol to Xavi as his ex who mistreated him. Xavi introduces Marisol as his "stage manager." Ignacio has his doubts about what Marisol can do. Xavi says she is the best. He has never worked with somebody so talented. Without Marisol there is no show.

Imelda, Blanca and Imelda soon get an eyeful of sex on the internet amd discover that they had better refine their search to "remedies to help get pregnant". Eugenio walks in wondering what they are plotting now. Polita makes up a story about looking for Pedro Infante videos.

At school, Diana gives Aristóteles a pile of books to help him prepare for the academic olympics. He wants to know what the prize is. He is hoping for some money so he can help out his family. On the way out, he runs into Frida crying for her father who hasn't called her even once.

Ignacio talks to Marisol at the restaurant. She tells Ignacio to tell his boss Begoña that she has no intentions of bothering her or getting in the way of their relationship. Ignacio cannot believe what a stupid thing Marisol has gotten involved in with Xavi. He doesn't consider her job with Xavi as any great thing since, as far as he is concerned, Xavi is a failure. Nobody is going to pay a peso to see him. Marisol counters with she always admired Xavi and now even admires him more. As for Ignacio, she thinks he is a fake saying he wanted to be Xavi's friend. The only failure is Ignacio. He sold himself to the person making the best offer: his boss. If he has any shame left at all, then he needs to remember that he still has a daughter who sadly still loves him.

Audifaz's boss Mr. Rufo is not happy that Audifaz abandoned his post and was caught on video fighting with his chicken costume on. It has been all over the social media. He lost the client. He is disappointed in Audifaz. Audifaz has not made the sales he expected. The boss fires Audifaz and pays him what is owed in cash.

While working on the research Polita is not feeling well. She is suddenly dizzy, has a headache and just feels strange.

Julieta has asked Gabriel to come to her office so she can talk to him. She thinks that he can see things really clearly. He starts to joke and she asks him to stop. She needs to see her way more clearly. He tells her straight out that her problem is that she is going against everything she has always wanted. He gives her her own advice she gave in her classroom. One has to look for their own happiness, they have to have certain ideals and pursue certain goals. Number one: He wants to know what changed her mind about having children. Julieta answers that once she became pregnant she realized she could be a marvelous mother. He offers his sympathies by saying he is sorry for her because it was a tragedy that occurred but maybe it was a way of the universe telling her it was not the time to have children yet. Number two: He remembers that she would say that the best thing about Robert was that he didn't have a family but now the truth of the matter is that he does have a family and things have not gone well with them. Now, in spite of that, is Robert still the ideal man for her? or does she have some doubts about that? Number three: She believed in marriage but it was not her only dream. Then overnight, she turned into a woman who dreamed of getting married in white. The Julieta that he knew is not the one seated in front of him now. Julieta wipes away a tear and says she just needs him to listen to her and not make her feel worse. He tells her not to evade her reality. She needs to listen to herself and the Julieta that exists in side of her. To change the topic, Julieta asks if he has listened to the little Gabriel inside of him or has he turned into a fossil made of stone. Gabriel admits that he tried telling Daniela he liked her, was crazy about her but he just could not do it. Anyway,Daniela is in love with her first love. That is news to Julieta.

Julieta returns to her apartment. As she is trying to enter her apartment, Imelda accosts her in the hall first asking how she is and then imforming her that they have found a specialist on the internet that can help with fertility problems. Blanca joins them. There is hope. The specialist says that he has a 90% success rate. They already asked for an appointment. On the verge of tears, Julieta asks them to please just leave her in alone. She is grieving. Imelda insists they are just helping her. Julieta looks like she is going to lose it. She says if she needs help, she will find it. She can look on the Internet herself. Imelda excuses it all by saying they were just working a title ahead. Polita now joins them. Imelda adds that no woman can deprive herself of holding her own baby in her arms. Marisol now joins the group when Juieta asks if pressuring her is helping her. Reminding her every single day that she lost her baby is helping her? Daniela and Linda have now joined the group. Imelda tells her not to be ungrateful. Julieta fights back. No, she is not ungrateful. She asks them again to please stop meddling in her life; to stop telling her what to do all of the time. Julieta now is upset and getting louder and crying. They have been criticizing her from the very first day she set a foot in the building. Blanca tells her to lower her voice because it is a sign of disrespect as she points to Imelda. She asks Blanca why they have never respected her. Julieta gets louder. They think they can meddle in her life; make appointments with out her consent. It is her baby. Julieta will not be stopped. She used to be happy until she started living in this building. Linda offers her two cents saying Julieta has always seemed bitter; not that it really has anything to do with this. Julieta asks Linda how dare she an adds if Imelda wants to control everybody's life so badly, why doesn't she begin with teaching her grandaughters some manners. Daniela asks them all to calm down. Imelda calls Julieta selfish. She only thinks about herself. She doesn't want their help because she doesn't want to share Robert not even with a child. Julieta asks her to say no more. They are all driving her crazy. She tells them it is over and for them not to help her. She doesn't want to live there any longer. She is tired. They can have their apartment, their son, their grandson, their nephew, their brother. Imelda, much to everyone's shock, agrees. Julieta agrees with Imelda because no matter how much she loves Robert, they will never be able to tolerate each other. They simply can't. They wanted to separate her from him. Congratulations, they did it. She is out of there.

Julieta calls Robert to come home right away. She needs to talk to him. She gets out her suitcases and starts to pack. Robert leaves the hospital.

Daniela tells Imelda and Blanca that they didn't do the right thing. What is Juan Pablo going to say when he finds out what they did? Imelda doesn't care because Julieta was disrespectful to her. Linda agrees with Imelda. Marisol tells her that they just can't meddle in Julieta's life. Blanca is right when she calls the situation chaos and a real disaster. Imelda thought when they finally found Juan Pablo all of their problems were going to disappear. Daniela asks them what they are going to tell Juan Pablo. Blanca has to talk to Julieta. Juan Pablo asked them not to get involved and they did. Imelda still sees herself as a guardian angel. Daniela says that she is a guardian angel with a pitch fork. Imelda warns her about respecting her elders.

Polita informs Audifaz that she is feeling strange. She has been counting and it turns out that her period is late. Audifaz is surprised because she has always been so accurate in counting all these years. He insists that they go to the drugstore for pregnancy test and find out right away.

Blanca goes to talk to Julieta. Blanca tries to convince her to stay. Julieta has to think of herself and Juan Pablo. Julieta tells Blanca that is exactly what she is doing. She is thinking of Juan Pablo and his happiness. Julieta sees that Blanca is worried. Is she worried that Robert will get angry with them? Blanca is afraid that he will blame them for Julieta leaving when they only wanted to help her. It might have been clumsy but they thought they were helping her. Julieta points out that even now Blanca is still wanting to think for her. Julieta does not want to fight. Julieta knows that Blanca is worried that Robert will blame her for Julieta leaving but it will not be like that. Things just haven't worked out for her and Robert. They never expected his family to appear. Blanca offers to talk to the family and be less invasive. Julieta thanks her and tells her that that is not the only thing going on here. It is not just them, it is also her. Sometimes you just have to stop and look at what you are doing well and what you are doing badly. It is the only way to correct your direction. Blanca again asks if there is something she can do to change her mind. The answer is no.

When Robert returns to the building he is stopped in the hall where Imelda is putting on an act. She insists that she is ill and needs his medical attention so Robert won't talk to Julieta. Robert insists that he has to talk to Julieta and Blanca can take care of her. He is clearly torn about what to do. Imelda finally whispers they have to talk to him about Julieta. Julieta who has been waiting for Robert, sees the act through the peep hole and can't take it.

Catalina gets the call from Julieta that she is coming home to live. Catalina is excited. Hugo and Bruno are not happy because Julieta will cramp their style. Catalina reminds them that Juieta is also her daughter. They better understand that. The dolts just shake their heads.

Of course, Robert ends up at Blanca's where Imelda and Blanca the confess what they did. Robert is angry. He asked them not to get involved; that they let him and Julieta solve the problem. Imelda asks him not to get angry. They just wanted to do something good. She starts talking about the medical advice they found on the internet and Robert has to remind her that he is a physician. Imelda is sticking with what she read. Since Julieta called Robert to come home, he wants to know what else they did to her. Blanca insists that they did nothing bad. It is Julieta that is confused. Robert looks and sounds exasperated. Things are just worse now. How many times has he told them not to stick their noses in their business? How many? Blanca insists that they only wanted to make him happy. He makes it clear one more time that his happiness is at Julieta's side. Imelda never thought it would turn into such a big deal. Blanca adds that they love him. Robert states that with what they are doing they are preventing him from being happy. He storms out. Imelda says it is time to get down on their knees and pray.

Robert finally makes it to his own apartment and finds Julieta packed in their bedroom. He wants to know what she is doing. She wants him to calm down. They have to talk. She does not want an argument. She tells him to just sit down and listen He doesn't like to be told to sit and calm down like a kid. Fine then, Julieta just needs him to listen. She is doing this for the both of them. The wedding is next week. Why is she leaving him? She has to do it. She has to leave. Robert is upset and does not want her to go.

Linda offers Daniela some clothes to help her win Benjamín's heart on their first date. Daniela says no. She will dress as she always does. Daniela sounds just as confused and insecure about Benjamín as she does about Gabriel. Linda tries to give her some confidence but it doesn't sound like it worked. Daniela asks what happened with Bruno. Nothing. He had his revenge and that was it. That is what Daniela is afraid of: going on that first date full of hope and then getting dumped. Linda describes life as being a "constant effort".

At Gabriel's restaurant (where they are playing "La Zandunga" in the background), Gabriel asks his assistant where Daniela is. He changed up the schedules as Gabriel asked. Gabriel says he does not remember. He looks around and says he sees more customers so he needs Daniela there. He wants that "anteater" there at work. He is to let Gabriel know when she arrives.

Aristóteles arrives home with his academic Olympic prep books. Polita has taken a pregnancy test. It is positive. Audifaz informs Aristóteles that he is going to have a little brother or sister. Aristóteles wants to know how and why now. No, he doesn't need a birds and bees talk. He knows, much to his parents' shock, how babies are made. Aristóteles wants to know how it is going to be when they barely have enough to eat now.

Gabriel calls Daniela that he needs her at work. She tells him that he was the one that changed the schedules. He is looking for her loyalty. She has a date. He guesses it is with Benjamín. Gabriel insists that it is an emergency. No excuses. He will send a taxi for her. She can either come in to work or forget about her job.

Robert has left the bedroom and Julieta is alone. She leaves their photo behind and mooves her suitcases out into the living room. Robert is in tears waiting there and asks if she is really going to leave. He insists they have each other and it will all work out. Julieta tells him it is not working out. He knows she loves him. He can see it in her eyes. She has to go because she loves him and because she is just going to make him suffer. She tells him how she feels. They are not the ideal couple. They are not the perfect team that they thought they were. There were so many things around them that managed to break their harmony and now she feels like she is drowning. She feels as if she has lost herself, who she strived to be. She stopped being herself. She tried to bury her likes, her goals, her personality so that he would be happy but she just cannot put up with it any longer. He should not have to change what he wants, what he needs to live. He wants to be with his family. He waited for them for years. It is the right thing. He should be able to give his mother and grandmother a hug but she can't live with them any longer. He knows that she tried but they will not accept her. Robert says they will change. Julieta insists that there are things that never change. She does not want to have to live terrified thinking she has to please them every day because she doesn't know how to cook, because she isn't a good housekeeper, because she does not attend to him in the way they think she should attend to him, because her ideas are different or liberal, and because, what hurts her the most, she can't give him children. Robert insists that isn't important. He says they can go back to their original plans. He doesn't care if they do not have children. Julieta tells him not to lie. She knows him and she will not stand in his way. She knows he will not rest until he has a child and that cannot be with her. His mother and grandmother are going to be in his life forever. She cannot compete with them

Polita confides in Aristóteles that she is upset because Audifaz lost his job. Aristóteles is eager to get a job to help support the family. Polita tells him he is not going to work. He needs to be putting all of his effort into school and the academic olympics. She is going to have to work and see what they can do.

Julieta tells Robert that she needs to think about what she wants to do with her life. She loves Robert. She wants to go back to the beginning and find herself. She needs him to be alone and think if she can be that woman who will make him happy. He knows she is right now. Julieta thinks that he needs to take a break, make a list of his plans and see if she fits in to those plans. He needs to think of the future and if she could really be a part of that family someday. Where is she going? She never thought she would say it but she is going to her mom's house. Right now neither of them are happy. He wants to take her. No, it is better if she goes alone. He asks where his "imán"(magnet)is? She hopes to be united with him again someday.

What an emotional episode!

Imelda just gets more nasty with each episode.

Robert looked like a little boy when he was crying at the end.

It was ironic that after being so condescending to Julieta when she was upset that Robert was so sensitive when she told him to sit down and listen.

More tomorrow.

Thanks Jarifa!

Imelda is so awful. And I was really mad at Marisol. She has no problem speaking up for Xavi but can't defend Juli, the only person to offer her emotional support And give her a job! Can no one speak out against Imekda ? Always it is about respecting her and she uses it to allow herself to turn the knife deeper.

Hate to say it but Ana has been right all along. She tried to give Blanca good advice in the last episode but Blanca refused to take it. For all her failings and misdeeds, she did try to warn Juli and Blanca after the miscarriage. I

Where is Eugenio in all of this?

I kept hoping that Rob would say "let's move so we can get some space" but he had nothing to persuade her to stay a little longer.

Polita's pregnancy couldn't have come at a worst time for them. Poor Ari. Having to worry about food on the table and now this. Babies are expensive. I wonder if Rob will give them the crib and toys they had collected.

Thank you for the recap, Jarifa.

I'm not sure I want to watch this episode because of Imelda. Her ego is way out of control. She is dead to me.

I've heard of and known a few people whose marriages broke up, or almost broke up, due to toxic in-laws. This story is a prime example.

A day or two ago someone mentioned that Juls and Rob needed to move across town, away from the Córsegas, and that is spot-on advice.

And so very unfair that Polita discovers her own unplanned pregnancy. Life is often full of painful ironies. Oy.

Jarifa, what a tremendous job you did with this episode...so full of emotion and you portrayed it perfectly.

Jarifa, "Robert looked like a little boy when he was crying at the end." If the writer's did an extensive study of child trauma, they may have been trying to depict the behaviors and emotions of a person resorting to the behaviors associated with whatever child developmental stage during which the trauma was experienced. It's quite complex to explain, but Robert was behaving like the child he was when he was taken...afraid and confused.

Carvivlie, I was thinking the exact same thing about Marisol; what a disappointment she was last night. She should have stood up up for the one person who has helped her out and supported her more than her own family. I'm wondering though, if she is more willing to stand up for Xavi more because his his main problems are not with the family, but with outsiders. Marisol is the oldest, so she has been "brainwashed" more than the others. I was proud of Dani for trying to speak up and honestly expected Linda to lash out more (after the bashing she did at Julieta's first attempt to make dinner).

I wish someone would bitch slap Imelda into orbit.

Excellent recap, Jarifa! I loved how Xavi stood up for Marisol and Marisol stood up for Xavi with Ignacio. What a wonderful couple! I think Rgv Chick is right that it is a lot harder when family is involved, and I can understand Marisol's being hesitant. At least Audifaz's boss paid him. I was expecting him not even to do that. Maybe Audi will start writing now. Yep, Imelda was truly disgusting with Julieta. Daniela is so right that if she's a guardian angel, it's with a pitchfork. I loved that line! Also, I wanted to take advantage of this post to say how much I appreciate it that both you, Jarifa, and Rgv Chick are so supportive of the people who comment on your recaps. It really makes me feel part of a community. :)

SpanProf, when I first found Caray and started commented, it would always make me feel good, like a part of the community, when other commenters acknowledged my comments...whether they agreed with them or not; so I try to do the same. I'm so glad we have patios with such wonderful and insightful people. The snark and humor is an added bonus :-)

Jarifa: Damn right it's the last straw!

SpanProf, like RgvChick, I have found that being recognized also made me feel part of the Caray community and kept me coming back to comment. I like that I can watch a novela with others. It makes watching much more interesting and rewarding hearing everyone's interpretation and point of view. It is fun getting to know everybody on the patio and I value having as much fun as possible!

Carvivlie, apart from repeatedly telling his mother and wife to mind their own business, Eugenio seems to have checked out of getting involved in the home front. Maybe he is still following the old gender roles. As for Rob, he had that deer in the headlights look from emotional overload just like Julieta so I do not expect I'm to be thinking too clearly.

doris, I really felt sorry for Audifaz, Polita and especially Aristóteles being so keenly aware of his family's precarious financial situation.

RgvChick, very interesting insight above Robert reexperiencing that abandonment just like when he was a little boy. I really pity him. Both he and Julieta do need time to assimilate everything that has happened to them in such a short time. It was good that she moved out.

SpanProf, I thought that Audifaz's boss was going to stiff him, too. I keep forgetting he is a writer. Just maybe . . .

Steve, it was the last straw and more !

Btw, Daniel Arenas' baby face sure helped that little boy look.

"I wish someone would bitch slap Imelda into orbit."
Well said, Rgv Chick!!! And your comment about Robert behaving like JuanPab when he was taken, is very insightful, makes a lot of sense.

I'm glad Audifaz got paid, too.

As far as "where is Eugenio?" goes, he could be working in the bakery making bread, or the stereotypical man who stays far away from the metiches invasivas and, thus, stays out of trouble most of the time. He's no dummy.

Jarifa, your recap brought great joy. The episode last night did not.

Your astute comment and unfailing insight always make my day. You handled this sad story with heart and hope.

"The dolts just shake their heads" made me smile. The thought of Julieta moving into Cat's makes me fear we will be subjected to seeing Bruno and Hugo even more. Huge sigh.

Little Frida, "...crying for her father who hasn't called her even once" and "If he has any shame left at all, then he needs to remember that he still has a daughter who sadly still loves him" made me cheer for Marisol. Her failure to defend Julieta during the horrid family court did not. Carvivlie and Rgv Chick, I share your sadness that Marisol failed to intercede. Why did everyone band together leaving Julieta in tears fighting alone against the insensitive mob? I was equally as disappointed in Polita. No one, but no one offered a hug or support. My opinion of the entire family is plummeting.

doris, even if Julieta hadn't been attacked by the mad mob, I wonder if Polita's pregnancy might have been too much to bear causing Julieta to leave anyway?

"She doesn't want their help because she doesn't want to share Robert not even with a child". Is it terrible to say Imelda should be muzzled???

"Gabriel insists that it is an emergency. No excuses. He will send a taxi for her. She can either come in to work or forget about her job". Huh??

Gabi's rather sage advice might have been better shared with someone other than Julieta. I don’t think Julieta ever lost sight of herself. She has been badgered and bullied and met with intrusive behavior at every turn. She was left with no alternative than to leave her home. She is only doubting her love for Robert as she has been shamed for her miscarriage and has never been accepted for who she is. Every hurt and insecurity has been exacerbated by Imelda and Blanca.

Yes, how will Audi support his family. He is continuing to flail about and cannot catch a break. SpanProf, when he was being paid by his loathsome ex-boss, I thought I saw one or two bills and a few coins, leading me to believe he received a pittance. Am I wrong?

"Daniel Arenas' baby face sure helped that little boy look" is right Jarifa. My heart ached for him. I'm sure he has a deep seeded fear of abandonment and right now, his worst nightmare is coming true.

Well friends, we can only hope that rock bottom has finally been reached. Julieta has left and hopefully, the healing process will now begin. I am saddened beyond belief that one of the most positive, endearing TN couples I've ever seen is now apart and truly, truly suffering.

Jarifa, thank you for this marvelous recap.

Diana

Thanks, everyone , for your kind comments and stopping by!

Diana, yes, that was one insensitive mob that Julieta had to face and it was surprising that nobody would fall out of line to defend her and take on Imelda or Blanca. I think that Daniela could have come out in her defense out of all of them because she is not really dependent on living there as is Polita or Marisol. At least she has skills and has a job outside of the family. I just wonder how obnoxious of a fate any of them would face if they took Imelda on for what she is: a bully who takes advantage of her matriarchy. She is even nasty to Blanca. .

"a bully who takes advantage of her matriarchy". That really nailed it Jarifa.

No, she is not at all nice to Blanca.

Blanca has yet to experience the joy (and heartbreak) of being her own woman. She can break out of her shell, she has just chosen not to. Even though I think she really did admire Julieta's spunk, she wasn't brave enough to try a little independence out herself.

Diana

Diana, ITA it was disappointing that Blanca gave in so easily to her family's criticisms of her driving. She is just too beaten down by the system she supports so strongly. : (

Maybe Imelda can just pass on and her absence can free them all up. ; )

Thanks, Jarifa. Great job. Imelda still sees herself as a guardian angel. Daniela says that she is a guardian angel with a pitch fork. Best line of the night. I'm so glad you capture great dialogue that I miss.

You go, Julieta! I'm hoping Robert follows right after her. I'm not calling him a wimp, because he has tried to get Imelda and Blanca to back off, but he needs to do something dramatic to prove to Julieta she comes first and he will not tolerate interference. Robert, pack your bags and move in with Julieta's clan too.

ITA about Marisol failing to speak up for Julieta. Two generations bending to Imelda's will. Blanca set the tone. Too bad the younger ones can't see how much they need Julieta to shake things up for them.

Hate to say it but Ana has been right all along.

Carvivlie, ITA. So glad Julieta can stand up for herself, even though her heart is breaking and her world is turned upside down.

Gabriel and Audifaz's family continue to be my go-to for laughs. Love that Polita gave it to Aris straight when he overheard she's pregnant. He's a mature boy with kooky parents.

Thanks, Niecie. ITA that Robert needs to do something dramatic. You can only go so far with saying it will all turn out okay because they are together when Julieta has to suffer his family’s disrespect daily.

Thank you for your hard work Jarifa!

I am so angry with Imelda. She is so narcissistic because she imposes whatever she happens to believe is true on everyone else no matter who it hurts. She must have been getting her own way for many years. She may be the family matriarch, but she needs to back off and be told to do so in so many words! I can't stand that woman. Blanca is not as bad, but you can tell Imelda rubbed off on her.

Robert needs to offer to Julieta to move across town to get away from his intrusive family and beg that she stay with him.

I am enjoying Xavi and Marisol's story together. I hope she makes him a big success!

I found the song on youtube with Dani & Gabriel's "song". I just love that song and want to dance to it every time it comes on. :)

Cynthia, you are welcome. ITA about Imelda. Her cruelty shows through and through. Thanks for the info on Dani and Gabriel's song.

If anyone wants to see it on Youtube, here is the link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdg9lHM6f9w

It has scenes from the series and the lyrics are on there so you can sing along!

That sounds great! Thanks for the link.

Jarifa, you are exactly right about Imelda. She is just cruel! How could anyone be so unkind to their family and get off pretending that it's for their own good? I would never dare interfere in my grown children's marriages! I'd rather back off even if I have to suffer a little because how they run their lives together is NOT my business. I can make a suggestion, but if they make another decision, I back off because I never want to be thought of as the interfering mother in law. I will only say nice and positive things about my daughters in law and my son in law. It's the only way to keep peace.

You are a wise woman.
