Mi marido tiene familia Wednesday 11/22/17 Capítulo 65: Social Events Gone Awry

Imelda tells Eugenio all about Ana coming everyday and listening to her talk about how much she missed Juan Pablo. Imelda feels responsible for having rejected her. Eugenio insists that she is not responsible for Ana having taken Juan Pablo or for the years of suffering that she caused them. Tulio and Ana could have looked into alternatives like adoption. Ana might have been in a mental crisis but Tulio was sane. Neither of them had to destroy the life of an innocent as they did to Juan Pablo.

Hugo talks on the phone to Julieta about having dinner tonight with their father and tells her that it might not be such a good idea. Catalina is playing spy and wants to know what is going on. Hugo confesses that they are having dinner tonight with their father at Julieta’s. Catalina reacts dramatically as usual and sees it as a personal attack on her.

Imelda is still talking to Eugenio. Imelda now has to think about Blanca and how she blamed her. She was not guilty. She cannot bear to look at her now. Blanca deserves to know the truth. Eugenio does not agree. Blanca does not need more pain. Imelda insists that Blanca has to know the truth. Eugenio still disagrees. Things are gong better for Blanca now and he does not want to send her into another bout with depression. Eugenio also didn’t want Imelda to find out. He wanted to handle it by himself. Eugenio tries to convince Imelda that nothing they do will ever get those years back with Juan Pablo. They will have to pay Tulio and Ana what they are owed but then they have to separate from them for good. Imelda tells Eugenio that before hiding this from Blanca he needs to think about it really well. Eugenio’s mind is made up.

Amalia comes to Blanca’s apartment in tears. Blanca wants to know what is wrong. Amalia is moaning one more time about being alone, old and in menopause. She is upset that Belén has betrayed her and kicked her out. Blanca knows that is not true because she knows the real reason Amalia does not want to live there is because Amalia cannot stand Aurelio. Eugenio invites Amalia to stay with them until she can find a place of her own.

Gabriel is talking to his stuffed bear from Daniela asking it if she is ready for today. He has a fantasy where Daniela is dressed in a beautiful ball gown.

Hugo Sr. arrives at Julieta’s apartment. He sees Hugo and Bruno. He never thought he would see them together again. He hugs them but they both are distant and don’t know what to do.

Gabriel goes to pick up Daniela and tells her to change her clothes because they are ready to go when he sees her in black pants, a white blouse and a grey vest. Daniela tells him that she is ready to go as she is.

Hugo is with the whole family at the table at Julieta’s including Diana. Robert is trying to be the good host in spite of the tension between Hugo, Bruno and their grandfather. Hugo and Bruno are not too friendly and are very suspicious of their grandfather. Hugo Sr. says that he understand and that he will have to give his side of the story of how things were between their mother and him and why he left. Before he can start, the doorbell rings and Catalina barges her way in refusing to let Hugo Sr. tell his version of things. It is all about her being the good guy and Hugo Sr. being the bad guy.

Polita apologizes to Aristóteles if she and Audifaz made him feel bad. He is right. She and his father are liars. Aristóteles ends up confessing about the academic olympics exam. He felt bad but the worst part of it was lying to them. Audifaz sees it all as a learning experience for them all. They all love each other and they are all proud of each other.

Catalina and Hugo Sr. get into it. She won’t put up with him looking like an angel in front of his kids. She brought them up alone, etc., etc., etc. Hugo tells her that things were not the way she is describing them. She asks if it took him twenty years for him to find out their telephone number. It is real easy now for him to appear now when her children are all grown up. Now all he wants to do is steal them from her. Julieta tells her that nobody is going to steal anybody from her, they just want to hear what their father has to say. Hugo Sr. wants to make it perfectly clear that he didn’t leave just because of his mother but he left because of the kind of woman Catalina was and how she continually attacked him and his whole family. She and he didn’t function well together. He wanted to see his children but she didn’t let him. Catalina is not going to let him label her as the ”witch” in the story. Diana remarks that she is close to being that right now. Catalina blames Hugo Sr. for her children being frustrated and with no direction. Catalina will not calm down. Hugo Sr. says he is coming in peace. He tells his children that what they are witnessing right now is what it was like when he and Catalina were married. Julieta says they know her mom and how she is but who they do not know is him. Hugo Sr. says he left because there was no point in living in an endless war as they are seeing right now. Bruno says his mother is right. Why didn’t he find them during all this time? Why did he not fight for them? Julieta and Hugo agree with Bruno. All that Hugo Sr. has to offer them as an answer is a sheepish look.

Gabriel is still is trying to convince Daniela to change. His sister Clarissa says is a black tie affair. Daniela sees no purpose in pretending to be she is something that she isn’t to his family. If he wants her to be different, then it is better she leave. Eugenio comes out and gives Gabriel the "boyfriend" business. Gabriel has a bit of explaining to do and he does. Eugenio wants Daniela back at a decent time. Daniela defines a decent time as 1:00 a.m. which is too early for Gabriel but it is okay by Daniela and more importantly Eugenio. They leave.

Catalina is still attacking Hugo Sr. He tells her he just wants peace. Robert separates them by taking Hugo Sr. to his bedroom. Robert is careful in not siding with either Hugo Sr. or Catalina by saying that Hugo Sr.’s chldren are all old enough to hear everything they both want to say and form their own opinions. Hugo, Sr. insists that Catalina never let him see the kids until he finally stopped looking for them.

Marisol tells Xavi about getting Gabriel’s restaurant for the autograph signing. Xavi sounds like he is not so sure he wants to continue with trying to restart his music career. He actually loves working in the bakery. Marisol tries to talk him back into his music career. She hopes the autograph signing will be her first success as a manager. Xavi is impressed by her enthusiasm and they almost kiss.

Julieta tells Catalina that they have a right to get to know their father. Catalina reminds her that her father was never around for anything at all. Julieta gives Catalina all of the credit in the world; credit for being a woman on her own and being able to do well by her children. Julieta tries to convince her that they have a right to get to know their father and form their own opinion. Her brothers agree. Catalina tells them the old saying “Raise crows and they’ll peck your eyes out.”to further dramatize her own situation. She hopes some day they will recognize just a tiny bit of everything she did for them. Finally, Catalina leaves.

Blanca sees Catalina leaving the apartment building, as she is sorting trash at the dumpster, and notices that she is not looking well and offers to help her. They sit down to chat. Catalina tells her it is so hard being a mother. Blanca agrees with her. Catalina continues talking. One gives their everything to their their children. One sacrifices from the day they are born and then when they grow up they forget about all that and judge their mothers. Blanca agrees that it is like that sometimes. They grow up amd suddenly they know everything and want to teach their parents. Catalina also thinks that all that they see is their defects. Blanca adds that “invasive “ is a very popular term these days. Catalina thinks that their kids should know that in spite of any of the mistakes she has made, she loves them. She feels sometimes that her children do not love her even a tiny bit. Blanca just nods as Catalina cries on her shoulder.

Gabriel and Daniela are in his car going to the dinner at his house. Clarissa calls wanting to know where he is. Gabriel says they are on their way. Gabriel explains that both of his sisters are real pains. Daniela says that she loves him. He cannot believe what he has heard and he stops the car and makes her repeat it and then kisses her in the midst of the traffic jam he has created.

Aurelio wants a second honeymoon with Belén. Belén reminds him she has a store to look after. Maybe Amalia can cover for her at the store. No, Belén does not think that is a good idea. At that very moment, Amalia arrives to inform Belén that since she would rather be with a traitor than her own sister, she is leaving. She also warns Belén that a guy who cheats on you once will do it a thousand more times.

Dinner finally continues at Julieta’s. Hugo Sr. is there not to complain about their mother but she is an impulsive and explosive person. She did not get along with his mother. Hugo remembers that Catalina and his grannie (his “yia yia” --grandmother in Greek--interesting ) fought all of the time. Hugo Sr. was stuck in the middle. Hugo Sr. admits that both he and Catalina made mistakes. Yes, he did try to find his children. One of these days they can talk about it all more calmly. Now, he just wants to be in contact with his children again. Maybe in time they will come to forgive him. It would be his greatest joy to be able to be near them. Julieta says this is a start if nothing else. They can call him whenever and he will be there when they need him. His sons seem much more open to their grandfather.

At the Mussi House, the party is underway. Finally Gabriel and Daniela arrive. She cannot believe that this is his family’s house. They enter and all of the women are dressed in formals. It truly is back tie. Gabriel introduces Daniela to everyone. Clarissa and her dad think that Daniela just came to help out with the service. Gabriel introduces her as “his girlfriend”. His father takes him to another room to tell him what he thinks about Daniela. Clarissa is incredibly rude and insulting to Daniela so much so that the censors were at work. She tells Daniela that all Gabriel is doing with her is using her to get a rise out of their father. Ganriel’s father tells Gabriel that he cannot love ”something” like Daniela. He continues insulting her some more. Gabriel will not back down. He loves Daniela. His father reminds him of how things are run in their family. If Gabriel wants to maintain his lifestyle then he needs to forget this stupidity. Gabriel will not allow himself to be manipulated any longer by his dad’s money. He has found something that is very difficult to find: love. He will do whatever he has to to defend it. His father gives him “the look.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Catalina got on my last nerve tonight.

I liked Gabriel's defense of Daniela.

I wish I could read lips in Spanish so I knew what nasty thing Clarissa said to Daniela. I hate censors anywhere anytime.

More tomorrow. : )

Jarifa: My blood pressure skyrocketed as I watched Clarissa & the Buji idiots bashing Daniela. It made me angry!

Then Gabriel's Daddy is a piece of EXPLETIVE: bashing Daniela too. I hope Gabriel stands his ground because Clarissa & Co., are going to be plotting something horrible to destroy Daniela!

You got it, Steve! Exactly.

Thanks, Jarifa. Fabulous recap. I am so thankful for the Caray community and the amazing recaps and comments here! Clarissa is incredibly rude and insulting to Daniela so much so that the censors were at work. Wow, I didn't realize the insults were that foul.

I have to confess I am ticked at Dani though. Gabriel told her it was a formal affair, but she (Dani) doesn't want to compromise who she is. Just suppose Dani had invited Gabriel to a family dinner and asked him to wear a charro suit cause it was her family's tradition. Gabriel would've jumped at the chance even though the closest he's been to a charro suit is watching mariachis. Is Gabriel expected to do all the heavy lifting for thei relationship, while Dani maintains her individuality? That said, no excuse for Gabriel family's rudeness. I guess the third sister lets the other two do all the talking.

Neither of them had to destroy the life of an innocent as they did to Juan Pablo.

Eugenio spoke for all of us. Ana and Tulio are horrible people to feel justified putting a 4 year old through such hell.

All that Hugo Sr. has to offer as an answer is a sheepish look.

And there we have it. Even Hugo knows there is no excuse for abandoning his kids totally to Cat. (I guess he never watched Mrs. Doubtfire.)

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Happy Thanksgiving patio. I'm so glad to be a member with you!!

Thanks so much RGV and Jarifa for this week's recaps!!! You gals are so awesome!!

ITA and ditto what Niecie said. I was disappointed Dani didn't at least try for the sake of Gabi and meeting his family to wear a dress. He does seem to be the one doing all of the compromising and at some point he will resent it.

Clarissa's treatment of Dani shows that money doesn't buy class.

I'm wondering if Blanca finding out the truth would allow her to forgive herself for losing JP. That may be enough to overcome the pain of what Ana and Tulio did.

As someone brought up by a single mother, because of abandonment after divorce, I do feel for Catalina. She did all of the heavy lifting for 3 kids. For all of her faults, her children are decent people. I can understand why she is afraid of losing all she has and her ex coming in to swoop away all 3. No excuse for what Hugo Sr. abandonment,

Carvivlie: Happy Thanksgiving from San Antonio, TX!

Happy Thanksgiving, Patio Pals!

Wow, both dinners went south! I expected Dani's dinner to be quite the show, but Ididn't anticipate Cat showing up...but I suppose it shouldn't have bee a surprise.

Clarissa was wretched! M goodness, I have to hand it to Dani to stay as long as she has. The word that was censored was "marimacho," which means "tomboy." It isn't that bad in the US, but in Mexico it's considered a very bad insult. I expected the sisters to bash Dani, but Gabriel's father was horrid!

I'm on the ticked at Dani table too. Even if she hadn't worn a dress, there are elegant tops and pants that she could have worn. In a way, being so intent on keeping her individuality, could stem from her fear of leaving that shell she has built around her. Still, if she was able to wear a dress, to the festival, surely she could have dressed up for the dinner party.

Gabriel only has the two sisters. I thought he had three, but the one I thought was a sister is a friend.

My favorite scenes: Gabriel talking to the stuffed bear and the car scene where Dani tells Gabriel "Te quiero."

I was impressed with Bruno and Hugo last night. They actually were serious and made some intelligent, worthwhile statements. Hugo Sr. is really expecting too much, too soon; though the boys did seem to reach out to him at the end. Carvivlie, "No excuse for what Hugo Sr. abandonment," ITA.

I just had a chance to see the original Clarissa/Daniela confrontation scene. It seems that Clarissa drops a honosexual slur on Daniela and calls her a “marimacho” a “butch.” That is not much of a surprise considering all of the “he/she?” questioning.

Happy Thanksgiving Steve from Washington, D.C.

Rgv, looks like our cpmments crossed. : )

Yikes! Where is my spellcheck when I need it in my two previous posts: “ homosexual” and “comments “ . Much better!

Jarifa, thank you for a thoughtful, (always) well written recap. "Social Events Gone Awry" could not have been more fitting. Stellar.

"Ana might have been in a mental crisis but Tulio was sane. Neither of them had to destroy the life of an innocent as they did to Juan Pablo". Heartbreaking.

Overall, I found the episode quite depressing. While there was a breath of hope in that Hugo has (finally) reached out for his family, it is a bit late in the game. Carvivlie, being raised by a single mother as well, I agree that the parent who stays has the weight of the world on their shoulders. While I understand Cat's frustration, it does not appear the years have softened her bitterness. As we've seen, it has stayed with her and appears to be part of her armor. Her children are old enough to decide what part they wish their father to play in their lives. If only Cat would realize there is more than enough room for both.

Highlight was Dani’s admitting to Gabi that she loves him.

"Gabriel is still is trying to convince Daniela to change. His sister Clarissa says is a black tie affair. Daniela sees no purpose in pretending to be she is something that she isn’t to his family". Hmmm. I don't believe that wearing something beautiful takes away one's individuality.

I thought Gabi's fancy, family affair might be the one time Dani would graciously put her non-conformity preferences aside. I was expecting she would have on a beautiful gown, rendering Gabi speechless and bringing his family to their knees. Rgv Chick, "Even if she hadn't worn a dress, there are elegant tops and pants that she could have worn...." mirrored my thoughts exactly.

I've never thought of Dani as being selfish, but her actions this episode were tinged with it. This was Gabi's night. Couldn't she have bent, just this once? Niecie, your "Is Gabriel expected to do all the heavy lifting for their relationship, while Dani maintains her individuality?" wisely said it all!

Robert's family may have their faults but even Linda's sniping made Gabi's sisters and father's overt snobbery and downright cruelty seem like amateur hour. I give Dani credit for holding her ground and not fleeing in tears. All the money in the world can't buy class. Or breeding.

While this will likely lead to fracturing Gabi's family, I hope he isn't disowned.

"Gabriel’s father tells Gabriel that he cannot love ”something” like Daniela" made me shiver.

"Audifaz sees it all as a learning experience for them all. They all love each other and they are all proud of each other". A happy scene Jarifa. A family who literally has nothing except love.

"She also warns Belén that a guy who cheats on you once will do it a thousand more times". I have to side with Amalia. Once you cheat, what is stopping you from doing it again.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our wonderful recappers and commenters!

Thank you Jarifa!!

Diana

Thank you and you are welcome to everybody!

Niecie, yes, those insults turned out to be that foul. That is why they should have been kept in to accurately depict the opposition Daniela is up against. It is a rather grotesque but a realistic twist to the storyline. That being said, ITA about Daniela getting with the program and meeting Gabriel half way.

Carvivlie, I, too wonder how long it is before before Daniela’s reluctance to meet Gabriel half way or even speak to him on occasion stops being charming and becomes “old” for Gabriel?

RgvChick, that was my favorite scene, too. Gabriel is happy with so little as long as there is a chance with Daniela.

Diana, ITA about Catalina. It was tedious to see her so insecure in the face of Hugo Sr. who has literally just waltzed into the kid’s lives. The kids know what she did for them all of those years and know he was MIA all those years. I am wondering why Hugo Sr. has decided to connect with his family now after all of these years. Is he ill?

Great recap, Jarifa! Maybe the reason they're having such an elderly actor play Hugo Sr. is that he's supposed to be sick and to look older than his years. My favorite scene was when Amalia was complaining so loudly at Blanca's and saying all the things that were working against her, including being menopausica. Frida says menopausica?, and Marisol quickly ushers her out of the room. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

"[Gabriel] has a fantasy where Daniela is dressed in a beautiful ball gown."

Wowser! Coming down the staircase. Dani???

RgvChick and Jarifa - Again, thank you for your recaps this week. And I still have not had a chance to watch my recordings. Gah! Once the appliance repair guy leaves, I'll settle in and watch.

I hope all our Patio friends had a nice Thanksgiving. I'm still on a turkey & stuffing high. LOL

Catalina is completely nuts and horribly needy and insecure, that it is no wonder Hugo, Sr., bailed out. Yeesh!

Shame on Hugo, Sr., for not trying to see his children. Talk about emotional abandonment! Does Mexican divorce law not have visitation laws, giving him rights?

Daniela really could have listened to Gab about dressing up, black tie, etc. But this provides another plot propeller to keep them apart, for now, just another mis-step on the road to HEA. ;-)

I'm still pulling for David the Blue Teletubbie to be adopted by Robert & Juls, and then have Juls miraculously find herself pregnant again.

Anon, Daniela is a real looker..

doris, you are welcome. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving, too. The turkey continues . . . “Teletubbie” indeed! I always loved the Teletubbies especially LaLa, : )

I'm very thankful for our recappers and commenters who keep us up to date with the action here. I was out of town and missed seeing this episode. I was hoping that Dani would have used her family's help to dress up and show her beauty in another style. Nice that Blanca could comfort Catalina.

Good to see you, La Paloma!

I watched this episode yesterday and was interested to see the "alebrije" on Gabriel's desk!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alebrije

Those are beautiful.

Doris, thank you so much for the link..SO interesting! One of the things I love about Caray...the new knowledge commenters share!
