Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia; Capítulos 31 & 32, Tuesday, October 23, 2018; Whose husband was he anyway?

Vicente packs up his things and leaves with his making mention that he is married to his career.

At the Bakery, Blanca tells Pancho that they shouldn’t be hanging out so much and that he needs his privacy.

Eugenio invites his mother to a dance in town. She says no at first but then agrees to accompany him.

Axel, Linda, Gabriel, Dani and Frida continue bowling. Axel and Linda win. Linda jumps up into Axel’s arms, but Dani reminds Linda they are cousins and to watch it.

Robert and Canúto meet out in that lovely area where all those stalks grow about trying to reunite the Córsega family. Robert agrees to help and says there should be no more wars between the two families. Later, Axel and Sebas show up. Also Ari joins them. They start throwing stones in the lake.

Next day, Julieta has to leave early for work as Susana requested.

At the other Córsega home at breakfast, Crisanta does not want to eat. Axel invites his grandmother to that dance as his date. Susana encourages her mother and says Axel is right. She allows Sebas to go, but Axel must watch him closely. Axel invites his mother to go, but Susana says she must work. Axel responds by saying that “as always, work is more important.”

Eugenio and family arrive at the dance and Linda complains that the dance is full of old people. “Viejitos”.  Then Canuto arrives and Imelda wants to know who invited him. Canuto responds that this event is for all of Oaxaca.

At Cklass, Julieta has not yet arrived, but calls and says that family is more important. Instead, Julieta arrives at the fiesta/dance. The mariachi band starts playing Canuto’s song and he asks Imelda to dance. And they start to dance with Imelda looking very happy and nostalgic. While Canuto is saying sweet nothings to Imelda, Crisanta arrives with Axel and sees him with Imelda. While Canuto is declaring his love to Imelda, he suddenly falls to the ground and the men carry him away. While down, he declares his love for Imelda and says he never stopped loving her and she says too, that she never stopped loving him either. It appears Canuto has had a major heart attack and dies in front of the entire family (except for Susana being at work). As he dies, Canuto remembers his prayer, that the Córsega family be united. [I do not understand why Robert as a doctor did not administer CPR, don’t they do CPR in Mexico?]

Imelda sits and reminisces about her Canuto memories. Crisanta too, recounts her most recent memories of Canuto.

At Cklass, Susana wants to know why Julieta is not there and calls it an abdication of responsibility. They start the photo shoot with Ari. Axel tries to call his mother but she doesn’t answer. Julieta offers to go with him to the office to tell Susana. Robert is visibly crushed and hurt by his grandfather’s sudden death and keeps remember the words Canuto said to him.

At Gabe and Dani’s place, it looks like Dani gets a text message about the news regarding Canuto. Julieta calls her mother and tells her she loves her and asks Catalina to give her children a kiss from her and says she will be home later to hug them all.

Julieta arrives at Cklass and Susana really lays into her and won’t listen to Julieta at first saying that there are no excuses! Susana leaves the room and Julieta quietly tells Casandra and Ari that she needs to speak to Susana alone. Finally, after going around a few times with Susana, Julieta is able to tell her that her father died. So she leaves and cuts work short.

At the hospital, Robert explains that the doctors told him that there was nothing they could do for Canuto. His health was very bad and his heart was very bad. Gabe and Dani arrive at the hospital. Axel leaves and Linda says she will watch Sebas for him.

At the bakery, Polita gets the bad news.

Later, the family gathers for pre-funeral visitation and the family mourns around Canuto’s casket, with flowers, La Virgin de Guadalupe, and his portrait. Then Susana shows up. She opens his casket and cries, remembering the last time she saw him when she said she never wanted to see him again. She cries saying out loud that she didn’t mean it and asks for forgiveness. The Sebas comes and hugs Susana.

Pancho, sitting with his children explains to them how a person’s spirit goes to be with God and how one day everyone will be reunited. He shows them how to pray and they recite the Lord’s Prayer. Julieta walks by and sees David joining in reciting The Lord’s Prayer.

Robert addresses the family and tells them that the Córsegas are much stronger together and should be united as he promised his grandfather. But then Susana and Crisanta blame Canuto’s death on the fact that he went to the fiesta/dance and it’s all the first family’s fault. Then Susana says that they are NOT a united family. Axel asks that they stop arguing because he is dead now.

At the Aguilar home, Hugo discusses his plans for his hot dog business and decides it will be a huge success. Diana is not so sure, but Catalina believes in him.

Clarisa shows up at the family visitation and sees Linda wearing a dress that she gave Dani and is a little put off about it. She finds Axel and goes to give him a hug while Linda looks on from across the room.

The priest asks the family about what they want to do with Canuto’s body, to be buried or cremated. Imelda and family want burial. Crisanta and family want cremation. Then Robert and Susana decide to go talk to the priest privately.

The priest begins the service and each of he family members relive their memories of their last times with Canuto. After it is all over, Susana cries to Pancho about how she behaved the last time she saw her father and told him she never wanted to see him again. She is now very sorry that she said all that. Susana tells him that her father died thinking that she hated him and that hurts her. In the next room, Crisanta laments to Axel that Canuto died thinking that she hated him.

Imelda also mourns with Blanca.

Robert and Julieta talk and he is feeling guilty for his grandfather’s death. She tells him he’s not responsible and of course, he cannot control everything. She also tells him that he tried and he gave Canuto the best advice possible and it was up to him to follow through.

At the funeral, Frida continues to text her secret admirer in secret.

It seems to have been a very quick cremation because the priest comes in with the ashes. A fight ensues over the ashes between Imelda and Crisanta. Robert suggests that the ashes be interned at the church cemetery but Crisanta insists on keeping the ashes herself. Then Imelda announces that she and Canuto were never really divorced and are still legally married. Robert says this is not the time to discuss this because it should be discussed with a lawyer. Crisanta says that she should be the legal wife because she spent the most time with him. She takes the ashes home.

Amalia gets into an argument at the dress shop with a young woman who says she was once Enzo’s girlfriend.

Julieta addresses a group at Robert’s burned victims foundation where she presents the alebrijes made by Daniela, will be sold to donate to the foundation. She describes Robert as someone who is an excellent father and an excellent husband. Not only that, but he truly loves his patients and strives to do the very best for them. Julieta says that this foundation needs a brand new start.

Univision showed a two hour program but only put up an hour's worth of it online, thus, I only got a few pictures and I don't want to wait around to see if they finally put up the 2nd hour. Anyway, keeping it short tonight. Feel free to discuss what I may have missed. I sat there during the program and typed while I watched it.

Cynthia, thank you for this fine recap.

Imelda actually looked well and lively early on at the dance. She surprised me.

I must admit that I was willing to forgive Canuto a lot because I found him likeable. But he really, really screwed up by pursuing Imelda. After 50 years married to Crisanta? That's crazy and now Crisanta is miserable hearing what he had to say to Imelda. Not nice, Canuto!

I felt very sorry for Crisanta, and I'm very impressed by her 'no makeup' appearance as Jarifa pointed out. Quite the contrast with Imelda.

And if Canuto and Imelda never divorced then he was a bigamist and I don't know how valid his marriage to Crisanta was. I have no idea what Mexican law would say about this and as for the law in telenovelandia, we have to wait on the writers.

I didn't see how it was finally decided that Canuto would be cremated, but it sure did happen fast!

Thank you, Cynthia. The recap was excellent. Great comment about there being no CPR. I was wondering the same thing. Beanie time!

I laughed when Crisanta said she looked like a "shipwreck".

Axel was his usual sarcastic self when Susana said she had to work and he answered: Yeah like always. She should have asked how they were able to eat and have a roof over their heads if she didn't work all those years.

Susana was great in defending her mother when goofy Eugenio admitted that he just wanted to see his parents again like when he was a little boy and Susana asked what about her mother.

The absolute worst was Crisanta being on the sideline at her own husband's death and having to witness him telling Imelda he always loved her. That was the worst possible memory Canuto could have left her with. So, I was happy she fought them to have Canuto cremated and took the ashes with her. IO have a feeling she will keep on fighting or at least I hope so.

Thanks Cynthia...always wonderful to have a recap with pictures. But what a sad ending with additional hurt for Crisanta and then that ugly squabble over who gets the ashes. My sister's first husband had a hard time being faithful. She was not friends with his second wife, but she became friends with the THIRD! wife for the sake of the family. Now that he has passed away, they still do all their holiday celebrations together.

A lot of hurt could have been avoided if Canuto had simply lived up to his promises and vows. I can't say that I found him likeable (although I like the actor) because to me he seemed whiney and weak. But...individual differences.

Andy, "bigamist" describes Canuto perfectly. My problem with Canuto was he always looked and acted so nicely and rpoperly with everyone (except his wives) that you would never think he was capable of pulling off something like he did.

"Whose husband was he anyway?" had me smiling away Cynthia.

You captured the essence of this perfectly. And the pictures are always sensational as they were here. Excellent recap.

I sense a rallying of the patio around Susana. "Susana was great in defending her mother" - spot on Jarifa. I agree with you that there could have been nothing worse than Crisanta hearing Canuto say he always loved Imelda. No need for me to comment. Andy your "After 50 years married to Crisanta? That's crazy" said it all amigo.

"Axel invites his mother to go, but Susana says she must work. Axel responds by saying that “as always, work is more important.” Shut.Up.Axel.

"Julieta calls her mother and tells her she loves her and asks Catalina to give her children a kiss from her and says she will be home later to hug them all". I was happy to see that. Did you see how Catalina's face lit up? A few kind, loving words are all that is needed.

At the funeral, it seemed as though the battle lines were drawn. Still, Susana strode through the field, head held high.

Judy, I thought surely the urn was going to fall and break, scattering the ashes everywhere. "Ugly squabhble" was right.

“Hugo discusses his plans for his hot dog business and decides it will be a huge success. Diana is not so sure, but Catalina believes in him”. Am I a bad person because I couldn’t care less? I care even less about Amalia's beau's old girlfriend. Do we really need scene fillers?? I think not.

Please don't let anything happen to Frida.

I liked the scene at the foundation with a supportive, loving Julieta backed up by Gabe and Dani. Good progress will follow...

It will be interesting to see how this fractured family heals itself.

Cynthia, this was great - thank you.

Diana

Thanks, Cynthia. You are a trooper to handle these two episodes.

ITA Crisanta deserves all the honor and respect. She had no idea about Canuto's double families so all of this hit her like a ton of bricks. Imelda knew all and she should back up, shut up, and give Crisanta her due. I too love Susana's fierce loyalty and boldness in sticking up for her mom.

Hoping the comedy returns soon.

Thank you for your recap, Cynthia, and I look forward to watching as much of this one over lunch.

" [I do not understand why Robert as a doctor did not administer CPR, don’t they do CPR in Mexico?]"
I know, right? LOL!!! Just like it is standard telenovela procedure for everyone to stand around and wail but nobody ever goes to call 911.

Wow, just yesterday we were talking about how it would be easy if one of the AARP trio died, but whodathunk it would happen? and so soon? And now to sort out all the legal intricacies regarding ownership of the bakery & properties.

Re: the comments about Crisanta with no makeup and Imelda with her clown face and big wig just gave me a thought. NOTHING is ever by chance on a telenovela, including wardrobe, hair, makeup, art on the walls, etc. Crisanta brings herself and her honesty to the table, with no masks. Imelda hides behind her mask of self- righteousness and justification, while she is the one who has so much to cover up and hide from others --- Canuto's "demise", her destruction of Crisanta's business property, etc., while wearing the masks of big hair & heavy makeup.

"Crisanta brings herself and her honesty to the table, with no masks. Imelda hides behind her mask of self- righteousness and justification..."

Leave it to you to cut to the heart of the matter and so insightfully too doris.

Loved this.

Diana

Why was Imelda entertaining Canuto's words of love at all? He abandoned his sons, and to top it off got remarried. You would think she would have been over him after more than 50 years. Did the fact that he chose her over the enemy give her an ego boost, and that's why she paid any attention to his cheap words? Where's her self-respect?

Suddenly Eugenio changed his dream to "I just wanted my parents to tell each other how they felt, that's all." This man is beyond ridiculous. Susana saw right through him. He's not responsible for his father's death, but he is somewhat responsible for the heightened animosity between both Corcegas. Enabling his father to pursue Imelda just made the feud 1000 times worse.

All the first family Corcegas were giving Susana the evil eye when she entered the church. One thing that's always bothered me about them is how self-righteous they feel they are. Imelda suddenly feeling like she has any right to decide anything over Canuto is ridiculous. Crisanta spent most of her life with Canuto, she knew him longer and they're married. The first marriage might actually be null, given the amount of time Imelda and Canuto have been apart without any contact. Either way, Crisanta's family had a bigger right to decide what to do with the body and to keep the ashes. Imelda and the sons fighting for the ashes of a man they barely knew anymore was awful.

Canuto's children were just accessories to him. He died professing his everlasting love for Imelda, but had not one mention of any of his kids. Selfish to the end. Crisanta really had no idea who she was married to for so long.

"Crisanta really had no idea who she was married to for so long."
--- And this accurately reflects real life, too.

doris, great comment on “the mask.” I also agee to your last one sbout Crisanta not knowing who she was married to reflecting real life, too.

You can tell I am on my phone. 😕

doris, great insight into Imelda's "mask" and Crisanta being mask-free, and what it said about their characters. I noticed the difference in appearance but didn't put two and two together.

andy

Thanks everyone for your comments! I was thinking about the legality of Canuto's marriage to Crisanta when I came up with the title. Crisanta thinks she is the legal wife based on years together. Imelda says she is the legal wife based on the fact they really were married and never got a divorce.

In my opinion, if you never get a divorce, you are still legally married to spouse #1. Number of years together has nothing to do with making a marriage legal if you were already married when you married spouse #2. Imelda just pretended Canuto was dead without even declaring him as "dead" legally. Canuto's death was merely a facade, just as his "marriage" to Crisanta was merely a facade. Both Imelda and Canuto lied for 50 years about the truth because of their own stubborness and their need to look good to the outside world and their families. Their deception and lies have hurt and helped destroy their generations following them.

Thank you, Cynthia, great recap.

I found the AARP trio storyline a bit hard to swallow. I would even venture to say that it was ridiculous. So most of you got what you wanted...Canuto has gone to meet his maker and pay for his sins. I don't know why Crisanta would want to keep his ashes after he kicked her hard to the curb; then she heard his last dying proclamation of love...to Imelda! I am glad, though, that Canuto was the one to go. I couldn't stand seeing Carlos Bracho in that role...such a sweet man made out to look like a selfish, insensitive, old geezer.

My favorite scene was seeing Cat's face light up when Julieta told her that she loved her; then that went south when Cat told Dianuka that Julieta didn't love her...that spoiled the whole scene.

Doris, your interpretation of the make-up/no make up is brilliant, but are the writers and directors really that smart?? LOL

RgvChick - yes, sometimes .... maybe often, the writers are that smart.

Over the years I've noticed lots of visuals in telenovelas that say much about the character. Pay attention to the art, either in walls or statues, of the antagonists/villains, because it is often a reflection of their character.

How was Imelda able to "bury" Canuto at the graveyard without anyone investigating how he died, whether the body was really there? Did she have a funeral mass for him at all? It's hard to believe she could pull one like that on the church. What did she put in the casket?

As "religious" as Imelda purports to be, it's hard to imagine her not having a funeral mass for her "beloved," dearly departed husband all those years ago. She also told Tulio when her secret first came to light that she had paid for a fake death certificate. But how did she get "him" buried? She said the casket was empty, but you can't just go to Caskets-R-Us, get one and then pop in to your friendly neighborhood cemetery and say, "Hey, bury this!" What? You CAN in Telenovelaland? Oops, my bad.

I think that Imelda had told everyone that Canuto had died in an accident elsewhere. She may have said that he was out of town when he got killed and had his "body" brought to the cemetary. Maybe she did go and buy a large pine box to have his "remains" put into and then had that casket full of dirt brought over to her local church cemetary. But this is TN land, so anything is possible! But this kind of thing involves having conspirators along with her. She couldn't have pulled it off alone.

Thank you so much, Cynthia! These two-hour programs are a real slog for recappers. I have watched only one hour of the show so far, so I read just until those events, and will read the rest later.

I don’t get to check in with this patio because I watch the show about 4:00 the next day – too late to be part of the delightful conversations. But I do look at the recaps time to time and read the wonderful comments. Huge thanks to you recappers and commenters – its’ great fun.

I for one was very happy to see Canuto shuffle off this mortal coil, as Carlos Bracho, the fellow playing him, is one of the worst actors I’ve seen in telenovelas. Why do they keep hiring this guy? Yes, he’s had a long, long career, and yes, he’s handsome and has a deep voice.

Every time he’s on screen, I want to fast forward, but I need to know the story line, so I stick with it. He has maybe 3 facial expressions, which he augments by waving his hands in small circles in front of him, which seems to mean “I’m expressing emotion! You fill in the blanks.” Then there’s that weird sing-songy voice he uses which I think means “I’m an actor acting!”. You couldn’t get in a high school play with acting like that.

There are so many outstanding actors in the Televisa stable – and the Canuto part would be a challenge for any of them, as he really has behaved like a schmuck (and still was up until his death), but we need to see him as likeable, or at least forgiveable.

So I said yay when they put the white sheet over him. Am I bad? It’s regrettable – his was a pivotal part and the rest of the cast is splendid and the story lines interesting.

Not-so-Linda's dress is horrendous (now that I've watched the episode) and without doubt screams how shallow she is. That dress demands one look at her boobage, especially the big red flowers for the "headlights" effect. (Plz don't say you did not notice them). And our shallow Linda has nothing else to offer the world. I shudder for whoever her image consultant clients were, are, and might be. 😳😳😳
In the meantime, the wardrobe department is having a field day. LOL

Maggie - LOL! I think Bracho played Canuto perfectly, to have produced the feelings and comments we on The Patio of Lowered Expectations have had about him.

Thank you Cynthia for recap.

No idea if the "fake" death certificate will factor in a legal determination if the first marriage was still valid at the time of Canuto's real departure. If the state declared him dead perhaps the second marriage was not invalid. This issue might become important for the feuding two families, especially if Canuto did not leave a will. I would imagine that he still owned the properties, especially the bakery. Did he have a will? If not, then will ALL of his children inherit equal share? Susana could become a problem for the entire first Corsega family.

I'm sure that Canuto did not have a will so a fight over the property will ensue. I can see Susana & Crisanta becoming very bitter when finding out that the bakery property with the apartments are all still in Canuto's name. Then they will probably try to put a claim on those assets because they are so angry. Then there is the thing where Eugenio and Blanca went to talk with Bimbo Bread to partner up with them. You can bet this will all be put into jeopardy.

I like Carlos Bracho and will miss him. I really do think he is a very good actor and he appears to be classically trained. At least that's my opinion. I know I'm in the minority with this one.

doris, not to be contentious, but, ummm, I did not notice them. Nor did I notice any Linda boobage and I am quite well atuned to such and seldom miss it :-)

On the other hand, I did notice that Linda was the only one brightly and gaudily dressed at the wake. What was she thinking?

And Axel seems to prefer Linda to Clarisa? That boy must have taken a hard one to the head when he fell off his motorcycle. Or is just a natural born jerk; yeah, more likely.

:-)

andy

Andy, that's what I was thinking about Linda! Everyone else was dressed to mourn and she was dressed to party. She was so immature and inappropriate. Blanca should have said something to her.

Cynthia, I am a big Carlos Bracho fan, too. I think he did an excellent job in portraying Canuto.
