GENERAL...

today I rewatched "Falsa Identidad" at the Telemundo.com site with "all 5 segments having English Captions".

I'm not sure how this works, or if it always will, but the segments tend to start with Spanish captions, so I would turn off captions, watch for a sec, turn on captions, bingo, English.

"IDENTIDAD":

Deb: Whether this turns into a Super Series remains to be seen.

Identidad

rewatching "Falsa Identidad" today a few things got clearer.

1) I forgot about Jose meeting with Diego when he first came to town, and beat him up, he left with an agreement, Diego would find Circe for him and Joselito (don't call me that) would leave Diego's family alone, this Jose pointed out to Diego when Diego had the gun on him, that he did not harm Camila and always treated her with respect.

this led Isa to believe Jose would not be after them and asked Diego to move back into the house, which led Diego to say he does not believe anything Jose says, thinking it would still be safer for her with him gone (along with his other reasons for wanting some space).

Isa has still not told him about Disgusto.

2) I think Circe's plan to move the merc is like the coyotes taking people across the border, and it seems she plans on using Diego's knowledge of the border to do that, at which time Disgusto asks if she plans to make him a partner.

3)the Salas/Diego talk wasn't very clear but it's like novelera pointed out, somehow Diego is going to contact the aunt.

4) loved rewatching Circe meeting with her dad, the humble daughter coming home, or that's how it could have been she later says, before getting vicious, was that a smile as they were dragging him away?

identidad

Didn't see the new headliner posted, so this comment is regarding yesterday.

novelera and Niecie--I can't wait either for the Gavino-Joselito (don't call me that) confrontation. Gavino told Joselito to keep an eye on his cartel and to get him out of prison asap, not to take over. Joselito thought he could win back Circe AND run the cartel with Gavino out of the way. He didn't count on Piochas staying loyal. He's way over his head--The Peter Principle in action!

deb--Thanks for clarifying. It seems a lot of business is riding on Diego right now--the man who wanted to turn a new leaf.

identidad

FLASH: I just rewatched the scene between Salas and Diego (with Isa watching). deb got it right. Salas is telling Diego how the real Emiliano's picture is plastered all over Alamos and he thinks it might be a better strategy just to come clean and talk to "La Tia." He's referring to Emiliano's aunt. Diego and Isa aren't sure why that is such a good idea, but he claims if they tell the truth, they won't have to keep hiding (although here I think he's wrong). He leaves it up to Diego to decide.

identidad

I'll put up a mini-cap quite soon.

falsa identidad - capítulo 33 - parte 1 de 2

There was a good deal I found confusing, but here's what i remember:

Amanda tells her father she wants to help her mother, but she doesn't want to hurt anyone. Porfirio assures her that though her mother may be furious with her at first, when she realizes that Amanda was trying to help her, she'll forgive her. Porfirio also assures Amanda that if Diego were a good man, he (Porfirio) would step aside, but Diego is a rat. Amanda is convinced: "OK, I'll do as you say" [i.e., get him the passports].

Salas tells Diego and Isabel that what's important is that Emiliano Guevara's aunt stop looking for him. They need to convince her that he's alive and well. Salas adds that the aunt and her nephew weren't really all that close. [Diego should have paid more attention to this statement.] Diego reluctantly admits that perhaps Salas' plan is the only solution.

Porfirio tells Ricas that mathematics is useless, but if Ricas were interested in music...Ricas tells him he doesn't like music. Porfirio then tries sports. Ricas replies that he hates fútbol. But then Ricas remembers Diego telling him he should be nicer to his father. When Amanda goes to look for the passports, Ricas mentions what Diego told him. This gives Amanda pause.

Marlene and Disgusto are discussing the situation at Babel. She says it's dangerous there, so she doesn't want to continue. Disgusto urges her to continue so she can keep him informed about what's happening. [Ah, such a sign of his love!]

Chucho comes to have dinner with Marlene, Disgusto, and Diana. Disgusto grills him about his life and his prospects, and Marlene joins in. Chucho is humiliated. He leaves devastated.

Ramona asks Felipa when she's going to tell Circe the truth. I'm not at all sure what she's talking about. Is there a possibility that Felipa is actually Circe's mother? It certainly doesn't seem likely, but in telenovelaland, almost anything is possible.

Salas gives Diego Emiliano Guevara's cellphone so Diego can call the aunt. He's apprehensive, since he doesn't have any knowledge of Emiliano's life and wouldn't know what to say about any number of things. Salas puts on some loud music in the background so that it will be harder for her to hear Diego's voice. The aunt answers the call, but she can't hear him all that well. He tells her he has to stay in Mexico for a while, and then he says he has to hang up because the reception isn't good. The aunt tells him she loves him, and he replies that he loves her, and then he hangs up. Oops. The aunt is pretty clever. She calls someone else and reports that she received a call supposedly from Emiliano, but it wasn't him. She knows his voice, and that wasn't his. Moreover, she told him that she loved him and he said he loved her too. The aunt tells the person she's talking to "He'd never say that. We didn't get along."

There was a confusing scene with José and a woman. She quoted him prices for her services, and I assumed she was a prostitute. Then at some point she looked like Circe. José reacts angrily to her as if she's Circe and finally smothers her (and probably kills her). One of José's men comes in and berates him for wasting time obsessing over Circe while the cartel is going down the tubes. The guy tells him that José won't really be head of the cartel until he proves he has balls by killing Circe. [So no, the woman he smothered wasn't Circe.]

falsa identidad - cap. 33 - 2/2

Circe goes to see the Colombian drug lord and some of his men. He tells her things are better for him dealing with her than with her father. She says there will be no problem with the half ton of cocaine, but she just needs a few more days. No. She has to get the cocaine to the US in 24 hours or else she'll see the nasty side of the Colombians. OK, Circe agrees, she'll have to hurry. She makes one more request: Don't do anything to her father in prison. She has other plans for him.

Porfirio suddenly has dizziness and back pains when he gets up to leave. Amanda thinks he should see a doctor. Isa returns home. [ Porfirio shows much less dizziness or back problem than before.] Isa tells Porfirio she wants to talk with him, but in private. He takes her to the pigsty where he's been living [is he hoping to play on her sympathy?]. She tells him about his father's working with the Gaona cartel. He's been kidnapping women in Alamos who are then turned into prostitutes in Mexico City. Porfirio says he's not all that shocked, given what his father did to Porfirio's mother. He then tells Isa about Mateo murdering his wife and burying her remains under the bathroom floor.

Chucho comes to see Diego and Deivid. He tells them he was humiliated and is tired of being poor. He asks for another chance at their "business."

A guard comes by Gavino's cell and tells him that the Colombians have pardoned him, and that he has his daughter to thank for this. He also gives Gavino a note: Te espero afuera (I wait for you outside) [I assume that's a threat]

Circe defends her wish to involve Diego in moving the cocaine. Diego knows the routes, the problems, etc. etc. The only problem is that they don't know where to find Diego. In bursts José and his men. He claims he comes in peace, and he says he knows where she can find Diego. However, Diego is not going to pay attention to her (ese bato no te vas a pelar).

Isabel has trouble finding her passport. She tells Fernanda she needs it because it's the only identification she has as Camila Guevara, and she'll need it to get a job. Amanda overhears this.

Deivid, Diego, and Chucho are working to steal more gasoline when a police car arrives. The three of them flee.

Some of these last items may be out of order. I don't actually recall how the episode ends.

identidad

Juanita, you're a trouper for putting up a recap, when you'd already done a comprehensive one Tuesday!

I was pleased to see Amanda have a hint of guilt about giving Porfi the passports. She told him she couldn't find them, but really didn't look that much. But then later, she overhears (this kid is doing a TON of eavesdropping lately) Isa finding the manila envelope, taking her own Camila passport as ID for a job search.

Isa has a false US passport. The internet tells me that it's quite arduous to get a work permit to work in Mexico as a foreign national. Maybe this will happen via telenovela magic. I hope her difficulties finding work won't send her back to Babel, but I have a strong suspicion they might.

I'm definitely leaning now toward Felipa being Circe's mother. Someone here mentioned that earlier due to her strong affection for Circe. But what else could that secret Ramona knows be? Perhaps both Felipa and Gavino's wife were pregnant by him, and only one baby lived. Although it is hard to see him accepting a female child.

Joselito (I LIKE calling him that for two reasons: I can leave off the accent mark and it diminishes him a bit.) has retained the "services" of a very bold hooker who promises him anything he wants. Then, in a very common TN trope, the face of the woman he's actually boinking turns into the desired woman who is, for various reasons, unavailable to him.

I always enjoy Colombian characters appearing in Mexican telenovelas because I get to hear the voseo verb forms.

I don't think Diana tried hard enough to stick up for Chucho during that ghastly dinner. And Marlene, who had been nice to him when she first met him, sided with Disgusto upon finding out he wasn't a student nor did he have a job.

But, after the dinner, Diana had the perfect response. "You didn't come to DF so I could have better educational opportunities; you came here to be set up in style by your married lover."

This seems to be a very poorly guarded drug warehouse Circe is running. Joselito just marches right in with no one trying to stop him.

identidad

One more thing. Isabel, a pretty decent person, comforted Porfirio about what happened to his mother. Not sure how all this is going to work out, but maybe Porfi will reform and spend time with both his children, while they really live with Diego and Isa.

identidad

Many thanks, novelera, for your great comments. I'm afraid, however, that I don't share your enthusiasm for hearing Colombian Spanish. Though I didn't have trouble with the drug dealer, the conversation between Gabriela (I think that's her name) and Deivid went right by me. I love the lilting sound of the Colombian accent, but comprehension is another matter.

I too was astonished that José could just burst into Circe's warehouse. Was it ever made clear why he came? He conveniently arrived just as Circe was acknowledging that she didn't know where Diego was, but I don't think mind-reading is one of José's talents, so he surely didn't know that he'd arrive at that key moment. BTW, it seemed even clearer last night that José has a drug problem--either that or a bad cold. :-)

identidad

Mindreading is the only explanation I could have for Joselito arriving just as Circe is elaborating why Diego would be perfect to help her get her drugs across the border.

But why he'd want Circe and Diego to reunite is beyond me. Unless he hopes for Circe to see Diego madly in love with Isa and turn to him?

And why would he now want the Chilango Cartel to have any success, presuming Diego would cooperate?

Maybe his motives will be clearer Monday.

Joselito's drug using seems very new. He seemed sharp as a tack earlier on, with his only Achilles heel being obsession for Circe. I suppose we're meant to believe that men get SO hung up over a woman that they turn to drugs when rejected.

Identidad

thanks so much Juanita, such a sweetheart to put together a Saturday morning recap, and you covered everything.

this was an interesting show, kind of a catch our breath, and setup to move on.

Porfi is such a sad excuse of a person, after all these years he has nothing in common with Ricas, it was Ricas being nice suggesting playing a board game that allowed them to spend some time together, while he had Amanda rifling through Isa's room looking for the passports, we hear later they are in Diego's room when Isa goes to get hers.

sounds like Isa wants totally out of the Falsa Identidad game but Diego insists he will take the fall for them all, as if he doesn't have enough other things to take the fall for.

I love the daily banter Deivid and Gabriela have, they have each other pegged pretty well, they make a good couple.

I'm not buying into Porfi's poor life, when Isa was checking out his dump apartment he told her he had been living there all along, skipping his good life at the Ritz, and there is the part he set Diego up to be killed by the cartel, and of course the passports are all he needs to put Diego in jail.

I hope Chucho gets to know Digusto better, no one would have come out of that dinner on top, and Marlene, what? did she accuse Diana of bringing Chucho by just to goof on them?

looks like Diego's gang lost everything, including their truck as they took off on foot, I'm thinking they will be ripe for an offer from Circe.

after Joselito's Halloween date, some drink and a snort, I think he came up with a new plan, I think they left the new girls with Jim, even though he wants nothing to do with it, and I thought he said he was going back to Sonora, and he seems to be backing his guys off Circe's operations, and maybe he is giving up Diego because he has seen how he is stuck on Isa, maybe Jose is back to plan A, that he will get Circe, as well now as her cartel, and he is going to need some backup when he deals with Gavino and Piochas.

Identidad

Juanita- You started off the comments with a well-covered episode. Thank you. Everyone else's comments rounded it out perfectly. I have nothing left to share except to say..boy was I ever waaay off with Salas' recommendation to Diego and Isa about the dead Emiliano's aunt. We got a hint that it will not end well for Diego. Of course, if she goes back to Mateo, he'll be licking his chops to get a "real" investigation going that incriminates Eliseo and Salas. I was surprised that Diego speaks English very well, while the poor aunt was struggling in both English and Spanish to make it sound authentic.

Identidad

Thanks, Juanita. Fab job of this complex episode.
O
Poor Chucho having to tell Marlene and Disgusto he's not in school and has no job. Loved Diana sticking up for him though, letting Marlene have it about coming to DF to hide she was a married man's mistress. Marlene sure will have crow to eat when Disgusto is outed as a narco.

Ha! Diego teasing Deivid about letting an old geezer beat his time with Marlene.

So Joselito will make Jim manage the prostitute/laundering side along with the dancing. What will Jim do?

Gees. All these expert narcos around, but Diego is the only one that can help Circe with the route to deliver her junk?

Identidad

Have we already talked about their accents? Isa and Diego both say things like "musho" instead of "mucho". Does that sound Sonoran to anyone in the know? I remember we had this conversation about this accent in indigenous people of northern Mexico (Refugio para el Amor) in maybe Chihuahua. But these people are in Sonora and not in an indigenous community. Thoughts? Or am I just thinking too much about telenovelas? Is there such thing as too much? No, probably not.

Kelly

identidad

Kelly--I'm no expert on Mexican regional accents, but--Isa's "mushos" bother me a lot more than Diego's. I don't hear Porfi stressing it and supposedly he and Isa have about the same educational background (secondary school?). I don't hear Amanda or Ricas "mushing" much either, nor Salas, nor Marlene--lordy, I could go on. Those with more education (and or social status) like Fernanda and Eliseo--not a "musho" between them. Even Isa only emphasizes the "musho" when she's actually using the word "mucho."

I'm beginning to believe she was told to do it, based on the region, rather than ethnic background. She certainly does not come across as indigenous, the way Luciana did in Un Refugio.

Identidad

Juanita and or novelera--
I can recap Tuesday night's episode to give one of you a break.

identidad

Anita, thanks very much for the offer. However, this week I'm able to do Tuesday, and I may not be able to do any other day this week, so I think I'll go ahead with plans to do Tuesday. But I greatly appreciate your offer.

identidad

Anita (and/or others), although I'm able to do a recap of this Tuesday's episode, I will probably not be able to do a Tuesday recap the following week (Nov. 6) nor Tuesday, Nov. 20. I'd be delighted if someone can do either or both of these dates.

Identidad

Juanita--I can't do Nov 6, but I will take Tuesday, November 20.

Does anyone have dibs on this Friday, Nov. 2? I can do it.

Identidad

Anita, thanks VERY much for offering to do the Nov. 20 recap.

BTW, I don't think anyone routinely does Friday recaps. It would be great if you could do one.

identidad

Perhaps I'll put this up again when the page is up there. I will do some sort of recap tonight, but I'm having dinner with an old friend from my backpacking days and won't see the episode until I get home from this dinner.
