FALSA IDENTIDAD – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 3

Inside the wire cage with her children Isabel blames herself for their being in this predicament. She insists they will get away.

Deivid, Salas, and Diego discuss what they’ll do about going after Gavino now they know where the safe house is. Impulsive Diego talks about getting lots of men and weapons. Salas: “When have you ever killed anyone? I wouldn’t have helped you escape if I thought you were that kind of person.” Salas tells him to call Frank Scavo of the FBI and have him send the DEA after Gavino. Diego actually agrees!

Edgar apologizes to Porfirio over the phone for lying about Amanda being with him. Apparently Porfi is calling there to see if Chabela and the children are there. Porfi says they haven’t come home.

Gaby tells Mara that her lawyer says her time is up and she has to be married or get deported. Mara then tells her sister about how she told Chucho about her feelings and was told he couldn’t return them. Chucho comes to the pension bummed because he has no work due to Fernanda’s restaurant not opening.

Marlene and Jim undress each other in the pool by the house in the Valle de Bravo.

Diana shows up at the pension looking for Chucho. She then asks Mara to tell her the truth – is she in love with Chucho. Mara says that she loves him with all her heart, but he doesn’t reciprocate. She also tells Diana she’ll never find a love like that ever again.

Lots of black trucks and SUVs show up at Gavino’s hideout. Mateo shouts to the guards: ¡Nos cayeron! (They’re upon us.) [I’m a bit confused here. Wasn’t Mateo expecting Diego and some guys, rather than the DEA?] Oh, well. It works just as well for Mateo to get Gavino away alone, blaming the betrayal of the hideout on Pollo.

Amanda tells her mother it’s her fault this happened. Her mother knew the narcos were after her, but she came for Amanda anyway. Isabel tells her daughter that she’s strong. And they’ll get out of this. Just then Ricas finds some loose wire in the cage.

Deivid puts Gaby first and leaves Diego and Salas with the Gavino capture issue.

Zoraida calls Marlene about Isabel and the children being missing. She and Jim leave post-coital paradise to return to D.F.

Salas and Diego drink tequila and bond some more. Salas tells Diego how much he loves his mother. Probably a bit sentimental from alcohol, Salas wonders if Diego could ever think of him as sort of a father. Diego: “So, you want me to call you Papito?” And they laugh and laugh at this.

FALSA IDENTIDAD – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 3

Frank calls Diego to say that they found the safe house, but don’t yet know if Gavino was among those killed or captured. He tells Diego that he won’t be offered immunity. But, rather, they’ll offer him witness protection and new names (in the US or MX?).

Gavino and Mateo run through some open field. Gavino calls Mateo Comanche instead of Comandante. And he tells Mateo that he’s the only one who hasn’t ever betrayed him. Some convenient guy has stopped his car nearby and Mateo carjacks him. [Or else he arranged for the guy to be there all along, perhaps.]

Frank tells Diego the only hitch about the witness protection is that he has to prove he had nothing to do with the death of the Guevaras.

Mateo brings Gavino to Babel and we can see the damage from the fire. For the first time Gavino seems almost beaten. He says that he has no men, no money, and no options. Mateo leaves him in the main room, saying he’s going to fix up a room so Gavino can rest a while. We see Mateo remembering Gavino refusing to stop firing when Ricas was in danger at the restaurant and then forcing him to his knees, ready to shoot him. He then texts Circe.

Apparently Alex Mendez’s idea of foreplay is melting ice cubes on Circe. Her phone rings and at first she ignores it, but then reads Mateo’s text saying he has Gavino at Babel.

Salas explains the witness protection program to Diego. Salas remembers Fernanda’s anguish at the thought of Diego being in prison, and that she’d gladly take his place. He abruptly tells Diego he has to leave.

Jim, Marlene, Paloma, Zoraida, and Porfirio are tearing their hair out over the fact that Isa and the children are missing. Porfi figures out it must have been Circe. He believes his father would have let him know if Gavino did it. Marlene insists Porfi call Diego. He does, but rants at him that the whole thing is his fault.

Ricas has somehow used a piece of wire to pull a tire iron or some such thing into the wire cage. Isa begins to use this tool to tear at the wire and create an opening.

Diego calls Circe and threatens her for having taken Isa and the children. She just tells him to look for them. Alex doesn’t look best pleased at how much Circe is enjoying taunting Diego.

Salas remembers talking with Eliseo and arranging for Diego to use the Guevara’s passports and that there need to be 3 crossing the border. Salas, still looking a bit tipsy, tells Fernanda he’s going to make her happy.

FALSA IDENTIDAD – JUEVES – Parte 3 de 3

Mendez and Circe leave for Babel. Felipa wants to come and is furious that Circe won't let her get a chance at her own revenge. But Circe tells her she has to stay to watch “the guests”.

Ricas and then Amanda get through the hole in the wire cage. They don’t show if they actually got away from the house. Felipa finds the children are gone and calls the guards on a walkie-talkie to search the grounds.

Salas leaves Fernanda a note. He says he would wait for her for 100 years and he hopes she can wait for him. Salas then approaches Baldy and Crooked Detective. He tells them that neither Diego Hidalgo nor Isabel Fernandez are guilty of anything regarding the Guevaras. It was him.

Diego has come to where the rest of the “friends and relations of Isabel” are hanging out. Porfi rants some more, but Diego asks if he’s “on the boat” or not. And Porfi lets him in.

My fingers are crossed. It looks like Deivid is getting married the next day and not going to help Diego.

Gavino sees some thugs come into Babel and then Circe.

Porfi has an idea.

Mateo tells Pollo that they’ll split the backpack full of money from Diego. Then, after laying low a while, he wants to start the business back up. Just then Porfi calls to tell Mateo about his grandchildren. After looking anguished for a minute, he tells Porfi that Circe is at Babel.

Circe gloats over Gavino, listing everyone who’s betrayed him. He’s pretty standup. He tells her he started from nothing and built an empire. Not many would have the huevos y sesos to do what he did. He tells her he doesn’t think she has it in her to kill him. She then points the gun at him and we get the usual telenovela cliffhanger.

Another wonderful recap, novelera! ¡Muchísimas gracias otra vez!

I know they said that they were offering Diego witness protection rather than immunity because after his helping the authorities get both JJ and Gavino, things will be VERY dangerous for Diego. But all I could think of is that living under another false identity is the last thing I would imagine Diego and Isabel would want. Not to mention Fernanda, who probably wouldn't be able to see him.

I'm a bit unclear about the situation re the Guevaras. When Salas remembers his talk with Eliseo, I thought he mentioned only that they'd found the body of a 6-year-old boy child (i.e., Max Guevara). Weren't all three of the Guevaras killed at the same time? And what is it that Salas is confessing to Baldy and Crooked Cop about? Is he claiming that he killed the Guevaras??

I loved your saying that "Apparently Alex Mendez’s idea of foreplay is melting ice cubes on Circe."

Juanita and Novelera –

Thank you so much for yesterday and today’s recaps! They’re great fun to read, and here I am still with no captions, understanding next to nothing. Good grief, all the different Plans that various characters have to wipe each other out. I’m totally confused, though your explanations helped a lot. I decided to just watch the plans play out.

This episode: Salas, wow!

Meantime, I’m checking out StuD, which is on in the daytime, and I understand everything just fine. Big relief! I thought my Spanish understanding had completely evaporated.

And I wonder what I’m going to do with all the new vocabulary I’ve picked up from this show. I mean, should I be saying “Fierra pues” or using terms like morra, plebe, and pedo? As I’ve mentioned in the past, watching novelas has provided me with the Spanish tools to have a torrid love affair or order a hit job on someone, but I don’t think this new vocab is going to be of any use at all to me.

identidad

Make that "fierro pues". It's too late at night - ha!

Identidad

fantastic recap novelera!

I think Circe lives for the drama, and she is good at stirring the pot.

yep, Deivid is off to be married, but not today which is something else we have to worry about.

Juanita- Salas was confessing to his knowledge of the bodies and the arrangement of the 3 passports, all of which occurred before Diego and Isa had any knowledge of it, putting them in the clear.

so Circe wants to confront her dad alone, but takes all of the guys with her but Alex, I don't remember if she has actually intentionally killed anyone, I'm wondering if she will pull the trigger, isn't this where something else happens like the arrival of Diego, and Mateos looks like he left Babel, but with Circe holding his grand kids...

yep Gavino, looks like you are going to leave this world, alone.

Identidad

Thanks, Novelera. Some convenient guy has stopped his car nearby and Mateo carjacks him. - lol

Impulsive Diego talks about getting lots of men and weapons. Salas: “When have you ever killed anyone?

So glad Salas said what I’ve been thinking. Diego acts like a badass but he’s not. He does have nerves of steel though.

Hmmm, for a guy who feels like a failure and is down on his luck, Jim sure is living well.

identidad

deb, thanks very much for your explanation of what Salas has in mind. I guess if his testimony convinces Baldy, Frank, or anyone else involved in making that judgment that Diego and Isabel were not involved in the Guereras' deaths, Salas' idea may indeed work. It does seem convincing, but this is a telenovela we're talking about. :-)

identidad

I'll try to do a mini-recap of tonight's episode. It will be posted quite late.

Falsa Identidad - Capítulo 89 - Parte 1 de 2

Yes, I know, it's more than a mini-cap. Oh well...

Gavino overpowers Circe and points his gun at her, but then he has a flashback of Circe as a little girl raising her hand up and pleading "Don't hit me, papá." More flashbacks follow, including one in which Gavino tells a grieving Circe that her mother is not in heaven because heaven doesn't exist. "When you die, that's it. The party is over" (se acabó el bailongo y ya). This and the other flashbacks apparently get to Gavino. He says to Circe, "You have my blood." He puts his gun down and turns his back on her. He says, "Only a Gaona can kill another Gaona." He seems to reach for a gun and quickly turns to face Circe, who fires two shots that kill him. As she shoots, she realizes that he isn't holding a gun. She starts screaming, No, papá. No no no no no. After about 20 more no's, she leans over his body and kisses him.

Porfirio calls Mateo and tells him that Circe has kidnapped Isabel and the children. Porfirio wants to know where Circe is. When Mateo expresses doubt about the kidnapping, Porfi tells him that Circe confirmed it to Diego. Mateo then tells Porfi that Circe is at Babel.

Diego and Porfirio are about to leave to go rescue Isabel and the kids. Jim insists that he should come too. He knows Babel better than they do. The three macho heroes go off.

Meanwhile, Amanda and Ricas are doing an excellent job of hiding from all of Alex's guards and trying to escape from the house. They find a place to hide, and then find an opportunity to flee. One of Alex's men calls to tell him that the kids have escaped.

Salas is confessing to Baldy his role in Diego and Isabel having false identities. We see a flashback where Eliseo tells Salas not to start an investigation into their deaths. "One more scandal and I can forget about becoming governor." Baldy seems to sense that Salas isn't telling him the whole truth, that he's protecting someone. He finally asks Salas, "Did you kill the Guevaras?" Salas asks him whether his answer matters, since regardless of what he says, Baldy won't believe him. "Although I only falsified documents, I'm suspected of everything."

Diego, Porfi, and Jim arrive at Babel and find Gavino's body, but there's no sign of Circe or the kids.

Circe gets into Alex's waiting car.. Are you OK? Alex asks. "I killed him," she replies.

Fer comes to police headquarters looking for Salas. Baldy greets her and says he'll take her to see Salas. He asks her to persuade Salas not to continue with this stupid confession. Salas is in a jail cell. Fer asks him why he's doing this. She says, "You know this was Eliseo's idea."" Yes," Salas replies, "but I carried it out. And everything I admitted to was true. Moreover, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't change what I did." Fer soon realizes that he's doing this to save Diego. And Diego is not going to be happy when he finds out. Salas tells her that Diego must not be told about this. Salas will get a good lawyer and get off lightly, but Diego has a police record. If Diego doesn't enter the witness protection program, sooner or later the narcos will kill him. Fernanda tells Salas, "Diego is important to me, but so are you. Isn't there another solution?" "No,' says Salas, "there's not." He asks her to trust him, and to talk to Frank Scott about the witness protection program for Diego and Isabel.

Felipa assures Circe that she did what she had to do. And Gavino deserved it. He was a very bad man. Circe shouldn't feel bad. "Years will pass, no one will remember Gavino, but you will become the most powerful woman in the country."

Falsa Identidad - Capítulo 89 - Parte 2 de 2

Amanda and Ricas manage to get safely away from the house. They find a diner and explain to a man eating dinner that they were kidnapped and want to let their family know that they're OK but their mother is not. He hands them his cell phone. Amanda calls Marlene and lets her know that she and Ricas have escaped but their mother is still being held prisoner. Marlene then asks to speak with an adult who can give them the address of the diner. Amanda gives the phone back to the man, who gives the address to Marlene. Marlene then tells Porfirio. Porfi, Diego, and Jim drive to the diner and are reunited with the kids. Amanda thinks she may be able to recognize where they were held.

Pollo (I think) tells Mateo that the plane is waiting for them (to take them out of the country, I think). Mateo calls Porfi, who tells him that the kids escaped but Isabel is still being held by Circe. Mateo tells him that Isabel is no longer his concern. He should just take the kids and be done with it. Porfi replies, "If you're not going to help me, at least don't get in the way."

Amanda apparently is able to identify the house where the kidnappers took them. Diego tells Amanda to stay with Jim. He asks Jim to call the police to report Isabel's kidnapping and give them the location. Diego and Porfirio, armed with guns from Diego's car, make their way to the house. Amazingly, so too do the police. The police have apparently taken target practice since the last time we saw them. They quickly kill or disarm most of Alex's men, but they don't find Circe or Alex. However, they do scare one of the men into giving them the address where Circe is. Alex and Felipa manage to leave the house and drive off. Diego spots Felipa, and he and Porfirio follow Alex's car. Mateo, who is parked near the house, sees Diego and Porfirio. I'm frankly not sure why Mateo is there rather than on the plane that was waiting for him.

Alex drives to the location where Circe has taken Isa. Diego and Porfirio drive up and jump out of the car with guns in their hands. Alex and Felipa surrender. Diego demands to know where Circe and Isabel are. No answer. However, they hear a faint cry. Porfirio goes off to investigate while Diego keeps his gun pointed at Felipa and Alex.

Circe has taken Isa to some kind of deserted warehouse (I think) that has a heavy chain coming down from the ceiling. Isabel pleads that she did nothing. Circe replies predictably, "You took the man I loved." She then attaches Isabel's arms to the chain and starts raising the chain. Soon, Isa is about 15 or so feet above the ground, dangling by her hands.

Porfirio sneaks up behind Circe and knocks her out. He then lowers Isabel back down to the ground and unties her from the chain. Alas, Porfi hasn't watched enough telenovelas or crime stories. It doesn't occur to him that someone knocked unconscious can regain consciousness, pick up her gun, and point it at Porfi and Isabel.

Meanwhile, Diego is momentarily overcome by Felipa and Alex, but he manages to grab Alex around the neck. Felipa has a gun pointed at the two of them. Alex manages to break free, and Diego runs off, dodging Felipa's bullets, just as the police arrive. They surround Alex and Felipa and order her to put down her gun. She reluctantly does so.

Circe says a few nasty things to Porfirio and Isabel and then shoots Porfirio between the stomach and the chest. End of episode. Monday is the gran final.

I couldn't help but think of Diego and Deivid when I saw this news item in today's newspaper: "Mexico’s president vowed on Saturday to redouble his fight against an epidemic of chronic fuel theft after thieves punctured a gas pipeline north of Mexico City, causing an explosion that killed at least 66 people and injured 76 others."

Identidad

thanks so much Juanita, wonderful recap!

yep, I think Mateos' plan after they confirmed Gavino's death from the news, was to lay low for a while, then start up the business, but I think he is worried about Porfi, he had some kind of radio where he could track the police calls and I'm guessing he is somewhere around the junkyard too, I think Circe aimed at Isabel but Porfi jumped in the way, did he get shot in the liver?

identidad

Thanks VERY much, deb. You're right, I had forgotten about Mateo's plan to lay low for a while and then start up his, um, business again. And yes, I too wondered whether he got shot in the liver. IIRC, the blood on his shirt was coming from more or less the right location. I wonder whether his rejuvenated liver will be stronger or more vulnerable to the bullet wound.

Identidad-
I can't believe I watched the whole thing. Excellent job, Juanita. You didn't miss a single cue.

I can't recall if anyone has mentioned the actor playing Alex. When Ident started, I saw a cast listing Sergio Mur, but never saw him. Then, last night I saw him out of the shadows and guessed it must be Sergio. He looks and acts so differently than in his role as FELS (the FBI agent) in Reina de Corazones.

So Monday is the wrap-up. Isabel, the two kids and Diego AND Fernanda AND Salas need to be put into the Witness Protection Program. Porfi has to recover and LHEA with Marlene. Chucho needs to decide whether one in the hand is worth two in the bush. Deivid needs to hurry up and make his wedding date. Don't care what happens to Circe. Ramona and Mateo will need to go into business together to make ends meet. I DO care what happens to the Gaona estate, though. It's beautiful. Maybe Zoraida can take it over (don't know how, but bear with me) and start a resort for recovering narcos shot up by the popos. Nah, it should be for decent folks who need a week in the country. No gringos need apply.

identidad

Muchas gracias, Anita. I'm glad you stuck with it. I suspect none of us wish this novela were longer. Given that there's only one hour left, I wonder how many of your well-identified loose ends will indeed get tied up, never mind tied up satisfactorily. :-)

As it happens, I won't get to see Monday's episode, at least not for another week. In a few hours, I'll be on my way to the airport. Back in roughly a week. I'm hoping I can get a bit of Internet access so I can read what everyone has to say about the gran final.

Identidad—On rereading, I meant Paloma and Porfi LHEA and I left out Jim, if he doesn’t get killed—paired up with Marlene. Excuse the memory lapse.

You timed it perfectly, Juanita. Have a good trip. You always have such great adventures.

identidad

Thanks such much, Juanita. Excellent recap! Wow, that was one action packed episode. I am SO over la trompuda (Circe). You are so right about Porfi turning his back on Circe. I hope he can be saved. The children, not to mention Paloma, would be devastated should he die.

I didn't see the episode until this evening because I was out last evening.

I also saw the article about the terrible explosion and casualties that happened because of the gas stealing. Not such a harmless thing after all. And over a billion dollars worth of stolen gasoline.

Baldy just has a thing for putting Diego in jail. He really, really wanted Fernanda to convince Salas to change his story. He's going to be furious when and if Diego goes into witness protection.

I did not recognize the actor playing Alex at all. Thanks, Anita. I did see Reina de Corazones, but it seems SO long ago now.

Apparently Isabel doesn't pay attention to the same self-defense advice that I do. If someone holds a gun on you and obviously plans to kill you, you're supposed to run and if possible in a zig-zag pattern. Apparently it's pretty hard to finish someone off if they're running away. Better to take a chance on running than let the killer take you to a place where they can definitely finish you off.

Isabel kind of disappointed me. Again, she should have tried to get away from Circe, and she shouldn't have given Circe the satisfaction of begging for her life.

Identidad

Thanks, Juanita. Fine story telling delivered with delicious snark. My faves:

The police have apparently taken target practice since the last time we saw them.

Maybe Zoraida can take it over (don't know how, but bear with me) and start a resort for recovering narcos shot up by the popos.

Yes, the horrible loss of life in the gas pipeline explosion in Tlahuelilpan, puts Diego's Robin Hood exploits to bring gas to poor people in a new light. I read that puncture site on the pipeline had been patched and repatched several times. So sad.

This TN has done a good job making me care about these characters. Porf is the most reformed, from wife beater to hero taking a bullet for the wife who's moved on with another. Yikes, I thought it hit his new (to him) liver too. Hope he makes it, for the kids. Plus, Paloma finally seems happy, so a shame to lose Porf now.

Don’t see how they can wrap this up in one hour, but I want to see Mateo convicted of sex slavery.

What fate for Circe? I see her losing her mind.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Peace to all.
