Another thing I didn't mention earlier. Why would Prudencia be so worried about Damiana spilling the beans? In my view Damiana and Angustias would NOT have the slightest interest in revealing the baby swap. Could put them in jail and/or at the mercy of some rancho justice by Luis Sr.

Looks like our story is setting up very quickly and my Crockpot Theory™ on the story line (I have NOT seen Esmeralda) is formulated. This should follow all the classic telenovela rules. Now for the fun in getting from Point 'A' to Point 'B'. Telenovela Bingo cards are printed out. I'm good to go.

novelera - Prudencia is probably afraid of her own husband's wrath upon herself if he found out she has lied to him, all these years. He does not strike me as being compassionate and forgiving. At all. Theirs is a marriage of convenience and she could be put out in the street by him.

Well, this is fun so far. Classic telenovela. And am getting quite a kick out of the Phantom of the Opera cranky doc in this one. Of course he will be a major cog in the course of true love, along with that skanky girlfriend of our designated galan. I do enjoy seeing Claudia play a sweetie again after her role as a villain in Amar a Muerte.

Doris, you have a magical Crock Pot! Send me a Bingo Card :-) I must have seen the original "Esmeralda" back in the 70s; I was in my preteen years. Ask me how much I remember...not much! :-) But I do remember that Lupita Ferrer (Esmeralda) had beautiful eyes too.

Ep 3- Boy Meets Girl, Again
Alberto tries to talk to Paulino to inquire more about the young woman he saw on his land; Lino warns him to forget her, since the women of the town are not what men of the city are used to. Lino knows that Alberto probably has many women after him because he is the son of the owner, but the woman he is asking about is sacred and special; so she is off limits.
Toribio and Marina are at the cemetery with Baldomero, the groundskeeper, when Toribio sees Felimon’s and Eulalia’s graves and mentions that Eulalia died when she gave birth to a baby girl. Later, he wonders why Damiana has never told Marina about the couple. Marina is mystified.
Alberto talks to his friend, Eric, who is having a hard time passing a test because he copied his way through classes (and he wonders why?).
Margarito, the foreman, goes to the main house and asks Angustias for the boss. Angustias takes the opportunity to ask him about Damiana again. Margarito lies and tells her that Damiana left town.
Marina and Toribio are now with Damiana eating dinner when Tori asks why she hasn’t told Marina about Felimon and Eulalia. Dami gets upset and tells Tori to take some food and leave. Damiana refuses to talk about the issue and asks Marina not to ask again about Eulalia.
In the main house kitchen, Margarito introduces his daughter, Yolanda, to Prudencia. Luis Sr. comes in and interrupts. He asks Margarito to investigate the woman who is stealing the avocados from his land…Margarito should know what he does to rats; he sends them off to jail. Margarito denies knowing anything about it, but agrees to look into it, only to placate him and protect Marina's identity. After everyone leaves, Pru wonders if Luis would have liked to have a daughter. Luis thinks she’s talking hogwash. If she had given him more children, he would have liked to have a daughter, but she ONLY gave him one (jerk!)
In Isauro’s office, Marina notices that Isauro is in a bad mood. He is upset that there are no patients that day; so Marina offers to recite a poem. As she recites it, Alberto is walking along the sidewalk and hears her voice (bionic ears?). He enters the office, but finds no one and leaves. Inside, Marina reminds Isauro of her wish to see some day. Isauro sternly tells her to accept her condition...she was born that way and will stay that way (jerk #2).
Marina goes to the cemetery to look for Felimon’s and Eulalia’s graves. When she fingerreads the engravings, she realizes that Eulalia died on the same day that she was born.
As Alberto walks through the orchard, he spots Toribio stealing avocados again. When he tries to take back the avocados from Tori, Paulino comes to Tori’s rescue and tells Alberto to leave him alone. He chides Aberto for trying to take back avocados when they were already on the ground and will rot. After Tori runs off, Alberto challenges Lino to a horse race; if he wins, they will maintain peace between them. Lino agrees on the condition that if he wins, Alberto will forget about Marina. As they race, Alberto veers off on another trail. Meanwhile, Marina is walking along the trail when she hears a horse coming. She runs and falls; so Alberto stops to help her, but she panics and starts yelling at him. Lino arrives (again to the rescue) and yells at Alberto telling him to leave Marina alone. Alberto is shocked when Lino tells him that Marina is blind. He wonders how she can wander around the woods on her own. Alberto wants to continue the race, but Lino tells him that he (Lino) won because Alberto got off the trail and reminds Alberto that he needs to stay away from Marina. Alberto assures Lino that he just wants to get to know Marina, but Lino insists that he stay away from her.

Pru asks Angustias to try to find out where her baby girl is buried.
Alberto is talking to Vanesa on the phone when he sees Lino riding up; so he ends the call. While Vanesa has a drink called “Sex on the Beach” (is there really such a drink?) with her buddy, Alberto apologizes to Lino for what happened. They chat about Marina. Alberto tries to get info about Marina, but Lino won’t even tell him her name.
Angustias is at the cemetery talking to Baldomero. She is inquiring about a grave for a newborn born on the day Eulalia died. Baldo doesn’t find anything; so Angustias starts to leave and thanks Baldo for his kindness. Sparks fly as Baldo responds that it is kindness that distinguishes such a fine lady as she is (Ay, Caray! BaldO-O-O!)
When Damiana arrives, Marina questions Damiana about the date of Eulalia’s death since it is the same year she was born. Damiana tries to avoid the questions, but since Marina becomes very insistent, Damiana confesses that she is not Marina’s mother. She shares how weak Marina was when she was born and how she vowed to protect her and raise her as her own daughter when her mother, Eulalia, died. Marina runs off upset.
Alberto asks Zacarías for the name of the pretty, blind girl in town. Zacarías tells him her name.
Mariana returns home and apologizes to Damiana for being rude. She is very thankful that Damiana raised her and protected her. Marina asks if she looks like her parents. Damiana tells her that she probably looks like her grandparents. When Damiana mentions that destiny wanted her to raise Marina, Marina remarks that it was destiny that made her meet the owner’s son once more. Damiana warns Marina not to go to the owner’s land again or she may get into trouble since Toribio was seen stealing avocados.
Angustias tells Pru that she was not able to find out any information. Pru insists that Angustias continue to search for her daughter’s grave. Angustias tells her that without a name it is virtually impossible. Later, when alone, Angustias convinces herself that she needs to protect Pru.
Later at night, Pru is walking the grounds when she sees a figure of a woman in the shadows. It looks like Damiana!

And yes, Sex on the Beach really is a drink. Been around for decades. One of those umbrella drinks for amateurs. 🍹 Reputed to be so strong can lead to SOTB if you have more than one. I wouldn't know . . . I was more of a bourbon/scotch and water girl, waaay back in the day.

And before that he was so mean to Ramona telling her that someone as stupid as her can’t assist him with the patients. That was just heartless!

OT- Doris, about the passion flower--I'm not sure about the limes, but I have read that a tea can be made to treat anxiety and insomnia; even WebMD has a page about it.
Just saw your recap Rgv Chick. You made me laugh with the "bionic ears" quip. Evidently the pull of destiny is so great between these two, he has extrasensory powers and she's all a-tremor from the first moment he entered HER bionic field. Well, I'm all for it. Alas, I'm finding the dialogue and pace in Amar sin Ley so boring, that I usually skip watching. But I'm having great fun with this one so far.

They are playing Paulino pretty close to the vest. When he told Beto (not to be confused with the Texan) that she was sacred, I sort of got the feeling that the entire hacienda and village had adopted Marina and looked out for her. Lino may just think that Beto would take advantage of her as he thinks all city guys do. Or he may have a thing for her himself. So far he's only seemed protective.
Luis Sr. is a world-class jerk. He barges right into women (and kindly Margarito) having a moment, interrupts them, and it's immediately all about him.
Isauro has become awful. Being burned like that is certainly traumatic. But...refusing to see a patient who is ill? In the US he'd get his pants sued off! And, being a doctor and clearly wanting a blind person to stay that way so she can't see his face...gah!
Marina reading the gravestones struck me as odd. Didn't she learn to read braille? How would she know her letters?
This IS a classic. I haven't seen one for years and it takes me back to when I first began watching them. My first was El Privilegio de Amar. I was learning Spanish. My co-worker from Mexico recommended that I see one from the beginning to better understand what was going on. And so I was hooked!

I never got to watch Esmeralda all the way through. I only remember one scene--Fernando Colunga and Leticia Calderon sitting together on a slight rise above a creek. I'm glad, because I have nothing with which to compare Sin Tu Mirada. So far, so good. I'm really enjoying it, along with the rest of the Patio Peeps.
RGV--Thank you so much for posting. I enjoy your recaplets as much as the episode itself. Yeah, bionic ears, what WAS that? At first I thought Marina was actually declaring her love for Isauro. It wasn't until I saw him creep around that I realized she was reciting poetry--obvio, one he taught her 'cause he wanted to hear it coming in her voice.
Shoot--even in a new house, I spied to lit candles in some sort of probably a shrine against one wall. You'd think they'd learned their lesson and burned the kind that come in glass cylinders.
Loved watching Beto ride his horse slowly through the trees. There's something about men and horses I just love--well, women, too, but I tend to watch the men.
OT-
I watched the DVD version of El Privilegio de Amar AFTER suffering through Triumfo de Amor with Sweet William and his neckwear. Helena Rojo and Andres Garcia made a much better "real" couple than TdA's Victoria Ruffo and Osvaldo Rios' interpretation, but that's just my opinion.
WAY OT--
Does anyone else want to play Telenovela Bingo? I already printed out Cards 1, 11, and 15, for no real reason and am ready to fill in the blanks. Because Julia realized that so many of her choices for squares happened in the same story, we made it harder by filling in TWO rows, perpendicular or horizontal, or one diagonal and one perp or hori (which would have to criss-cross). I wish I had had "Kissing in the Water" during Amar a Muerte--boy did they kiss and more.
We also have to decide if "Wearing a Disguise" counts for Isauro. He's not really trying to look like someone else, so I would not count it. Yippee, I can fill in "Gun Fired."

I watched the DVD version of El Privilegio de Amar AFTER suffering through Triumfo de Amor with Sweet William and his neckwear. Helena Rojo and Andres Garcia made a much better "real" couple than TdA's Victoria Ruffo and Osvaldo Rios' interpretation, but that's just my opinion.
WAY OT--
Does anyone else want to play Telenovela Bingo? I already printed out Cards 1, 11, and 15, for no real reason and am ready to fill in the blanks. Because Julia realized that so many of her choices for squares happened in the same story, we made it harder by filling in TWO rows, perpendicular or horizontal, or one diagonal and one perp or hori (which would have to criss-cross). I wish I had had "Kissing in the Water" during Amar a Muerte--boy did they kiss and more.
We also have to decide if "Wearing a Disguise" counts for Isauro. He's not really trying to look like someone else, so I would not count it. Yippee, I can fill in "Gun Fired."

MIRADA Ep 4: Part 1 - Friends
*In town, Damiana is trying to sell some of her potions when Angustias spots her and recognizes her, but Damiana denies knowing Angustias or having delivered a baby as Angustias suggests. As Damiana tries to get away from Angustias, she bumps into Don Luis and Beto. When Don Luis remembers that she was the one who delivered Beto, Damiana admits who she is and tells them that she has had difficult times but is getting by with some work she does in town. Don Luis introduces Beto to her. After Don Luis tries to give her some money and Damiana refuses, Beto insists on giving her some money and places it in her basket. Damiana nods and smiles as she tells Don Luis that she is very happy to meet his son. Before she leaves, Do*Prudencia is freaking out with the woman in the shadows. She is oblivious to Angustias’ calls until Angustias is close. Pru turns to Angustias and when she turns back the woman has disappeared. Angustias helps Pru into the kitchen where Pru insists that it was the midwife. When Angustias slips up and tells her that Damiana left to another town. Pru looks at her accusingly and reminds her that she had said she was dead; so Angustias admits that she lied so that Pru would stop worrying. Meanwhile, Damiana stands outside. As Pru and Angustias cry, Don Luis interrupts and slams his whip on the counter (too bad it didn’t snap back and hit him) demanding to know why they are crying. After Angustias replies that they were just reminiscing about the day Alberto was born, Don Luis orders Pru to bed since they have to get up early the next day.
*Marina is at the cemetery with Toribio. As she places flowers on their graves, she talks to them about how Damiana has loved and raised her.
*Marina is back home when Isauro comes for a visit. After she suggests that they go outside to talk (smart girl), she explains that her mother doesn’t want her leaving the house so that she won’t run into the owners of the plantation; they don’t trust her. Isauro wonders why, so she explains that they think she steals avocados from them, but it’s Tori who took the avocados without Lino’s permission. Isauro suggests that she rat on Tori, but Marina refuses to do so because he was just getting them to give to her. Isauro tries to convince her since Tori just causes problems for her and now she can’t even leave her house.
n Luis tells Damiana that she is welcome to go to his house anytime or when she needs money. Later, Angustias tells Don Luis that he shouldn’t have given Damiana any money since she was paid very well for delivering Beto. Don Luis insists that he wanted to help Damiana and he will always help her.

Angustias doesn’t like the idea and tells Pru that they should all leave…for the good of the family.

After she orders the other girls out, Susana tells Vanesa that her partying is over; Vanesa has nothing more to do in Canada since she already passed all her tests. They are leaving early in the morning.
Next Day—
*Yolanda enters the kitchen to go visit with Pru. Beto tells her that Pru is in her bedroom and tells her to go right in, but Lino won’t allow Yola to go until Hortencia offers to take her. Once alone with Beto, Lino makes it clear that he is going to help with Beto’s party only because his father and the boss ordered him to do so. He then warns Beto to stay away from his sister. Beto wonders if Lino guards all the women there; so Lino clarifies that he only protects those whom he is interested in. Beto then asks about Marina and if Lino is interested in her. Before Lino answers, Beto’s phone rings. He answers and tells Vanesa that he will call her later, but he inadvertently fails to disconnect the call. Vanesa listens as Lino and Beto talk about Marina and how Beto wants to be friends with her.
*Marina goes to Isauro’s office and tells him that her mother will be selling more of her potions so she won’t have to go away to the city with him. Isauro wants her to stop talking about her mother and to think of herself. After Marina insists that she is not leaving, she wonders if Isauro will not be teaching her anymore; so Isauro assures her that he will continue to teach her. After Marina leaves, Isauro tells Ramona to be prepared because he is going to ask her to find out some information later.
*Yolanda and Pru have a nice visit in Pru’s bedroom. Pru talks about the party they will be having for Beto…everyone in the area will be invited. When Yola talks about her friend, Marina, who is blind, Pru asks her to bring her to the party because she would like to meet her.
*Vanesa tells her mother about Beto’s conversation that she overheard. She doesn’t think she has anything to worry about since it involves a common girl, but Susana warns her that she’d better be astute.
*Pru talks to Angustias again and insists that she try to find out where her baby is buried. Angustias thinks that talking to Damiana is a double-edged sword, but agrees to find out what she can.

Beto tries to calm her down and tells her that he just wants to talk to her, but Marina grabs a rock and demands to know why he would want to talk to her.
*In Isauro’s office, Ramona tells Isauro that no one has offered to buy Damiana’s potions. He orders her to go to the surrounding towns and ask around some more since Marina assured him that someone would be buying the potions.
*Beto explains to Marina that not even he knows why he has this need to talk to her; it’s just an intense feeling he has. When Marina retorts that she feels a need to run away from him, Beto responds that just as she has the instinct to run away from him, he has an instinct to look for her. Marina snaps back that she stays away from hunters; so Beto assures her that he doesn’t like to hunt…the shot was accidental. Marina concedes; Beto asks her to promise not to run from him. Marina agrees and smiles big which Beto really likes and lets her know. He also asks her not to refer to him so formally. They sit down to chat and Beto apologizes for scaring her; he didn’t know she was blind. Beto manages to hold her hands and Marina doesn’t resist. They both smile and agree to become friends. When Beto invites her to his party, Marina is excited since she has never been to such an elegant party.
*Angustias goes back to the cemetery to try to find the baby’s grave. While she talks to Toribio, Baldo shows up and assures her that he cannot find a grave without the necessary information. When Angustias suggests that he may have made a mistake and asks to see the record book, Baldo takes offense and tells her to go look in other cemeteries (the sparks sizzled…boohoo!).
*Lino goes to Don Luis the Tyrant to give him an update on the party planning. When he tries to tell Tyrant that he only needs to pay for something, Tyrant snaps that money should not be an issue and orders him to take care of it.
*Marina returns home and tells Damiana about her encounter with Beto at the swing and that they are now friends. When Marina adds that being with Beto mades her heart beat faster, Damiana does NOT like the sound of that.

Thanks Rgv Chick. Still enjoying this and always enjoy your recaps. Not sure why the Ana Martin character is so hostile to Angustias finding out anything about her presumably dead daughter. Guess she fears the possible wrath of Don Loathsome if he finds out about the baby switch.
Like the characters of Pru and Lino and especially like the way Lino is protecting...or trying to...the womenfolk. Easy to assume that the rich son of the tyrannical ranch owner would not be properly respectful of the young women of the village.
And now the fiesta is coming up. Will our blind Cinderella be the belle of the ball? Certainly looks that way.

I got the impression that Angustia did try to find the remains of Pru's "dead" daughter. She just doesn't want it to become Pru's prime objective. Pru is already getting obsessed by the idea of finding her. Don't both of them assume the baby died? Wasn't it only Damiana and her mother know the baby lived? And yes, if she focuses too much, it might slip that she claims she has a dead daughter the same age as Beto, in front of Don Luis.
So, where does Baldomero come in? He seems to know the secret.

I wonder where Yolanda is going to fit in. There's a dearth of boys right now. I hope Beto's ne'er do well buddy isn't going to show up at the rancho any time soon (but of course he will).
I got the impression that Angustia did try to find the remains of Pru's "dead" daughter. She just doesn't want it to become Pru's prime objective. Pru is already getting obsessed by the idea of finding her. Don't both of them assume the baby died? Wasn't it only Damiana and her mother know the baby lived? And yes, if she focuses too much, it might slip that she claims she has a dead daughter the same age as Beto, in front of Don Luis.
So, where does Baldomero come in? He seems to know the secret.
Did anybody get it that Toribio is played by 83-year old Luis Bayardo, our magnificent Ciro Pallafox from MEPS and also Humberto from PyP?
Wonder if the bunny is left over from El Alacran's bunny hutch or did Don Teresio eat them all after the cartel was dismantled in AAM. Ever wonder who got El Cartel de la Sierra's palatial residence? [Sorry folks, I'm not quite over AAM. Ignore me.]

I'm not sure how much Baldo knows. We were made to think that only Damiana and her mother knew about the baby, but then Damiana must have had to come up with some story to explain how she got the baby, She seems to have been well known throughout the town, so I'm sure everyone knew that the baby was not hers. Question is: what explanation did Damiana give?
Anita, I'm not over AAM either! Everytime I see a rabbit in "Mirada" I wonder if Claudia took them over to the AAM set since Mirada was filmed before AAM. Or maybe the Mirada rabbits are predecessors of the AAM rabbits?? LOL

Anita, Eulalia was married to Felimon. Felimon was killed in some kind of accident a couple of months before the baby was born. So yes, there were two headstones; and Marina was placing flowers on both. Also, Felimon and Eulalia were living in that house that belongs to Don Luis...and that Damiana and Marina are now living in. Felimon must have been one of Don Luis's workers.

Welcome, Nina! Glad to see your witty, tell-it-like-it-is comments; they are always a joy to read. Alberto's biological parents are Felimon and Eulalia, both deceased. I think we all hate Don LuISajerk already :-)
Thanks, Chick--I remembered the two-parent part, but not that he'd died before the baby was born, but obvio, for Damiana to keep the "other" baby, he'd have to be dead. Also, I did know D and M were living in their house, all but abandoned.
Apparently Margarito gave them permission to live there. I'm surprised Luis doesn't keep tabs on every single parcel of land and house he owned. But, I guess he's too busy preening, stepping up on his own pedestal and throwing money around the village.
It bothers me, though, that Damiana could have all of a sudden shown up with an infant to raise. Surely Eulalia's neighbors, etc. would have known she was pregnant and ready to give birth. If they returned her body to be buried without a child, didn't anyone ask about the baby? Maybe it is more common in rural areas in Mexico, for other family members to raise an orphan baby. Still, Damiana was not family. She should have worked with Baldomero to "provide" a grave for the still-born child. It would have saved Pru a lot of anguish. Of course, that would have taken the story in a different direction.
The story Damiana told Marina in the end, makes sense and would have been accepted by everyone--EXCEPT, of course, Pru, who knows she raised someone else's boy and it wouldn't have taken her long to put two and two together.
It won't be long before Beto and Marina discover they have the exact same birthday, and not that they are just the same age and wonder about it.
