DAYTIME TNs (#1): Doña Flor, Sin Tu Mirada, y Mas - Week of April 22, 2019

Welcome to page 1 for the week! Some of the current daytime telenovelas are as follows (all times are Eastern Standard Time):
  • 1-2PM – Doña Flor y Sus Dos Maridos: Ep. 5-7
  • 2-3PM – Tenías Que Ser Tú: Ep. 69-71
  • 3-4PM – Sin Tu Mirada: Ep. 25-27
Any daytime novela can be discussed and everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Friendly reminder to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Mirada”)

(Note: On Tuesday, Apr. 30th and Wednesday, May 1st, Univisión will be airing El Gordo y La Flaca, Fútbol Central and Fútbol UEFA Champions League starting at 1:00pm. Tenías Que Ser Tú and Sin Tu Mirada will be preempted; however, Doña Flor will be aired during the 11am slot. The regular schedule will resume on Thursday, May 2nd.)

Comments:
It seems to me that Univision doesn't really want people watching their tns. Is this some long-term strategy? Folks just can't go changing their watching habits willy-nilly (unless of course a DVR is in your household). But then they want you to watch the replacement. Gaaahhh!

I'm reposting my last comment from Week of April 15, which otherwise no one will see.

>>How did Sergio Mur go from the suave, overly self-confident, consumate lover in Reina de Corazones to this wimpy guy in Doña Flor? I didn’t see Papa a Toda Madre, so someone tell me if that was the transition. We all fell in love with their Smith/El Supremo couple on Reina, even though they were not the leads.

Take a look at what this tall, handsome, bearded man can engender in a “strictly professional” woman when she begins to fall for his charms. (P.S. They both work for the American CIA).

I’m sorry Doña is moving to Daytime. It certainly isn’t any worse than the Mi Marido series at 9. I almost stopped watching after the first two episodes because they seemed so rushed and chopped, characters not introduced properly—and of course the answer was they chopped it up.

Yes, what DID they hope to gain by doing that? Mexican audiences and Spanish-speaking American audiences are different. Just because something is failing in Mexico, doesn’t mean it will also fail in the U.S. But that's still up for discussion. I think the whole one a day is beginning to wear some viewers out. They CAN make these tns shorter by removing a lot of side stories, and maybe think about one a week? Masterpiece Theater can do it, so can Starz with its Outlander, eagerly followed by millions.

I’m sorry, too, that Diana will have to withdraw. It’s been awhile since I eagerly anticipated her words of wisdom after each episode we were watching. I was looking forward to this one to hear her voice again.

Sadly, I will probably withdraw as well. It’s spring and the garden compels me to pay more attention to it than to telenovelas. Two a night is my limit (even though I have Saturdays and Sundays to catch up).

If you want more of Sergio in the old days (2014), this is an interview with clips of how he and Laura worked together on Reina.

Doña Flor, etc

Wow, Univision can really move fast when it wants to. I thought that Doña Flor was going to be shown daytime for a while just to attract viewers for the evenings. I guess it did rather badly in the ratings. Occasionally it takes some time to build an audience, but I guess Univision wasn't willing to wait. Probably a lot of prime time shows will have reduced audiences in spring and summer.
I don't watch Doña Flor because it didn't appeal to me that much and because watching one more daily telenovela would drive me over the edge.

Rgv Chick, thanks for the info!

Anita, Sergio Mur was a doctor in “Papá a toda madre”, too, in love with the heroine who saw him as a family friend. Sound familiar?

Anita, Sergio's character was an uptight guy in PATM, so one could say it was a transition role to that of Theodore.

I had no idea Doña was being moved. The first episode left me feeling meh, and with hockey playoffs + Sin tu Mirada, my TV schedule is full right now. What a bummer for Patio friends who were watching.

Oh my Anita...I'm here at work fanning myself. That clip was hawt, hawt, scorching!!! And Sergio was pared with one of my all time favorites, Laura, who I guess moved onto Telemundo when she wasn't getting the parts she deserved at Univision.

It shows how versatile these actors are and how different their appearances can be. I even believed Laura Flores when she played Eduardo Yanez' mother in Corazon Salvaje 09 even though he is a decade older than she.

As Jarifa mentioned, Sergio played a character somewhat similar to this in PATM although he was far more buttoned up there.

Anita, I hope that you enjoy your garden and may the blossoms bloom as beautifully as you do!

MIRADA
Ep 25: Part 1 A Visit But No Dinner

*Damiana gives Marina the go ahead to attend the dinner with Beto. She also manages to whisper what Marina thinks to be “tu papá.” Yola thinks that Damiana might be worried about Beto’s tyrant father, but Marina is just happy that her mother gave her permission to go to the dinner.

*Doc Mask is still ranting because Don Louse seems to be accepting Marina, but Don Louse assures him that this is just a plan that Susana/Chucha came up with so that Beto and Marina can see that Marina is going to be completely out of place and doesn’t measure up to their standards. When Doc points out the he has educated Marina and that she is very intelligent and naturally sophisticated, Don Louse responds that if Chucha’s plan doesn’t work, then he’ll do things his way.

*At the ranch, Angsty voices her concern to Beto about his father allowing Marina to come to dinner. Beto thinks that his father is trying to keep the peace for Pru’s sake, but Angsty still advises him to be prepared for anything. Beto hopes that his father’s attitude is sincere.

*Yola helps Marina select a dress—one that Beto bought for her.

*Beto tells Pru that Marina will come to dinner and asks that she be nice to her. Pru assures him that she will, but points out that she still considers Vanesa as a daughter. Beto hopes that Pru can some day see Marina as her daughter too. (Ooh, Beto, she will…some day!)

*Yola helps Marina dress and put on make-up. When she sees the earrings, she suggests that Marina not wear the earrings because it’ll be too much. Yola sees that Marina is nervous….Marina admits that she is somewhat scared, but Yola knows that she is not the type to back down. Beto arrives and thinks Marina looks perfect. Marina goes to say good-bye to Damiana who is looking much better since she is sitting up and her eyes are wide open.

*Ramona takes Doc some dinner. When she sees Doc’s long face, she understands how he must feel, and comments that he should be glad that Marina will be very happy with Beto (Wrong thing to say, Ram!). Doc gets up in a fury and throws everything off the table.

*Su/Chucha tells Don Louse that Beto is on his way with the girl. When she tells him to relax, Don Louse doesn’t know if he will able to contain himself since his blood is already boiling. Beto arrives and introduces Marina. Su feigns friendship, admiration and concern for Marina’s blindness. Don Louse has on a forced smile and finds it difficult to say anything; so he just grunts and nods. After Beto takes Marina to see his mother upstairs, Don Louse is beside himself because Marina looked really nice; but Chucha tells him to calm down and assures him that monkey dressed in satin is still a monkey.

*Beto and Marina enter Pru’s bedroom. When Marina sits down and Pru reaches out and touches her hand, Marina feels something and becomes nervous. When Pru asks if something is wrong, Marina tells her that she is glad to be received in her home, but Marina prefers to let her rest; she can come some other day for dinner. Marina then adds that she can’t stay because she doesn’t want to be away from her mother for too long since she is ill. Su enters with Vanesa who compliments Marina on her “look.” Marina thanks her and informs them that she will not be staying for dinner. Su tells Marina that the doors at La Añoranza will always be open for her (baaarf!). Beto takes Marina downstairs to say her goodbyes to his father. After they leave, Don Louse chides Chucha since Marina is no little wild animal like Chucha thought…the Doc did a good job in educating her.

MIRADA
Ep 25: Part 2 A Visit But No Dinner

*After they leave, Chucha goes to Pru as Vanesa leaves. Su points out that Vanesa is suffering with all of this and hides it well, but all Vanesa wants is to get back with Beto. She goes off to console Vanesa. Angsty wonders what Pru thought of Marina. When Pru tells her that Marina was very nice and sweet, Angsty wonders if she wouldn’t like Marina to be like her daughter, but Pru thinks of her daughter every night…and Marina is not her daughter.

*Beto takes Marina home. She tells Yola that it wasn’t that bad. After Beto leaves to get his medical bag, Yola wants to hear about everything. Later, as Beto is checking Damiana, Marina tells him that Damiana tried to speak, but she isn’t sure what she said. Beto asks Marina if she is happy since she doesn’t seemed too thrilled. When she tells him it’s nothing, he thinks that his parents are just getting used to the idea that they are novios. Marina still can’t believe it.

*Pru tells Angsty that she feels something odd when she is around Marina, but she doesn’t know what it is. Angsty thinks she should rest, but Pru asks her to stay and comments about Marina’s eyes. When she asks Angsty if Marina looks like her mother or father, Angsty tells her that the woman who raised Marina is not her mother and that Marina’s parents are dead. Pru wonders why Beto hadn’t told her; so Angsty points out that Pru hasn’t really shown an interest in getting to know about Marina. Marina hasn’t had an easy life. As she is about to tell Pru more about Marina’s parents, Don Louse charges in and asks Pru what she thought of the blind girl. Pru responds that she was very well-mannered and has a good attitude…she dressed up. Don Louse grunts and repeats Chucha’s comment that though the monkey wears satin, a monkey she will remain.

*Marina continues to tell Yola about her visit. Marina found Don Louse very quiet but he didn’t insult her. Pru was very kind and Marina feels like she has known her all her life. The atmosphere wasn’t quite right…it seemed as if they treating her nicely because they had to…even Susana was nice to her. Marina then goes to see Damiana and tells her about her visit.

*Lino sings outside Vanesa’s room; so Su yells at him to shut up after she enters Vanesa’s room. Vanesa points out that Susana’s idea to have Beto compare her to Marina backfired since Marina looked even better than she did. Su doesn’t think so, but Vanesa stresses that Marina was very well-mannered…she doesn’t see how Beto could give up Marina for her.

*Beto returns and thanks his father for welcoming Marina. Don Louse only did it to keep the peace since he doesn’t want to lose his son. When Don Louse asks if Beto is leaving after all, Beto responds that he isn’t, but he is doing all of this because he wants to be more independent and not rely on Don Louse for money. Ansgty approaches and asks for Damiana. When Beto tells them that she is better and that she tried to say some words that sounded like “tu padre,” Don Louse is impactado and Angsty wonders if she might be trying to tell about what happened to her. After Beto leaves, Angsty suggests to Don Louse that Damiana might name him very soon. Don Louse responds that Zackrat will be the one to take the fall, but Angsty doubts that Zackrat will keep quiet if caught..

*Ramona approaches Doc Mask with some gossip about Marina going to dinner at the ranch, but Doc Mask already knows. Ramona advises him that if he doesn’t forgive Marina, he will never see her again.

MIRADA
Ep 25: Part 3 A Visit But No Dinner

*Vanesa and Beto talk in the kitchen. Beto thanks her for being nice to Marina. Beto wants to be friends, but Vanesa doesn’t think so. The only way she is getting through this is by thinking that this is just a pause in their relationship…with time he will see how different he and Marina are and he will come looking for her (Vanesa). Vanesa promises that she will be there waiting for him. When Beto suggests that she return to the city and spend time with her friends, Vanesa retorts that she can’t go back and face her friends. She adds that she, like her mother, are going to stay there because they care about him. She thanks him for his suggestion, but she can’t leave.

*Doc Mask goes to visit Marina and apologizes for losing it with her; he knows he didn’t handle the situation well. He brought with him the documents so she can take her exams; all he wants is her happiness. Doc then asks about Damiana and her visit to the ranch. When Marina tells him that everyone was nice, Doc warns her to be careful because they will never accept her, Marina assures him that she will win them over. Doc then worries that Beto won’t agree to him helping her with her studies every afternoon since Beto accused him of withholding information about Marina’s blindness. After he assures Marina that he looked into her case very carefully, Marina agrees to talk to Beto and hopes that he will permit Doc to help her with her studies.

*Don Louse is getting ready for a trip to the city; so Pru assures him that everything will be well there; it’ll be a good opportunity for Marina to come visit. Don Louse advises her not to get too used to the idea of having Marina come visit. He only accepted Marina to keep the peace with his son. He and Chucha don’t think the relationship will last; so Pru better not encourage Marina to come to the ranch…he will never allow her into the family…not even dead.

*Su praises Vanesa for her performance. Vanesa will have to continue playing the role of the jilted lover who will wait for Beto forever. Later, Erasmo watches Vanesa as she rushes through the stables and goes off around a corner.

*Marina takes Doc to see Damiana who gets very nervous; so Marina tells her why the Doc came to visit and how he is going to continue to help her prepare for her exams. She assures Damiana that things are getting better for them, but Damiana still looks stressed.

Doña Flor

Today's episode was a repeat of Friday night's episode.

Re Dona Flor...

Thanks for all of the great recaps and helpful information about schedule changes! Luckily I can DVR the show regardless of where it gets moved and watch it after work. Sorry for everyone who wanted to watch it but can't because of the schedule changes -- very frustrating, I can imagine.

I'm enjoying Dona Flor quite a bit! I like most of the characters and I like that the show doesn't take itself too seriously. It will be a while before I get into it as much as I had been with Mi Marido but I expect it will happen. It's already pulling me in!

Someone mentioned the tattoo that the character of Chile has on his neck. I thought it looked like a chili pepper. Had to laugh at the really obvious editing when Flor was supposed to be dancing like a pro -- I've never seen the technique of framing the shot to cut out the dancer's head! That was a bit much! I like the actress though, whether or not she can dance.

I hope people will continue watching, it's definitely more fun when I know I'll get to read what the patio has to say!

MIRADA

Thank you, Rgv Chick, for the recap and parenthetical comments!

Darn those writers, teasing us with the earrings. LOL

Seriously, I wish Ramona would have quit and left those dishes in Doc Mask's floor. She is a masochist.

Finally, some "llama da de la sangre" between Pru and Marina!!!

I had to laugh at Su yelling for Lino to can it. Not many telenovela serenades get cut off like that. The best was either StuD or MEPS when the female main protagonist opened her window and started firing her shotgun over a mariachi band serenading her. 😁

Thanks Ms Chick. I didnt see the episode but did enjoy the recap. Sudoo
Is a nasty creature. "Though a monkey
Wears satin, it remains a monkey" I
Really want tosee that bitch get hers.
If they want to kill somebody off now
She's be a good choice.

Pru is feeling odd things when she comes near her bio daughter. Well they spent 9 Months together, that bond dont just Go away. I hope she does invite her to The house, about dam time she get to know her daughter. Cuz van-nesa ain't Yo daughta.

Thanks Rgv Chick

Mirada

Rgv Chickie, thank you for this recap. I watched it but I didn't understand a lot of what Don Louse had to say, especially when he was excited or angry, which seems to happen a lot.    :-)

Susana/Chucha -> Su/Chucha -> Chucha. OK, thanks for making the transition to Chucha so clear. But I don't get it, why Chucha?

Doris, you might be right about Ramona. I can't figure her out but maybe the Doc has something on her, like knowing she killed her husband or someone else. Or maybe she's in financial bondage to him, or just a little twisted. I hope they let us know what her story is before the TN ends.

Mirada

Thanks Rgv Chick. Just saw this and was happy nothing untoward happened during Marina's visit to the big house. Getting a bit tired of Prudencia's weary, languid approach to life, but it seems to work for Don Luis. He still seems quite taken with her in a dominating "you're mine" sort of way.

My favorite part of the episode was when he barked at Susana "Sirvame" and she snapped "Sirvame tu".(or is it "sirveme"?) Anyway, it was funny. And he did!

Poor Ramona is clearly a glutton for punishment. We need to work on her attitude and her hairstyle. But boy she does earn her salary.

Thanks Rgv Chick. Not enough pesos in the world to pay you for all you do for the site.

Doña Flor

My guide still hasn't caught on to the changes, so I had a recorded episode of Virgen last night. Oh well.

Dona Flor

Lynne, I'm lucky to have a DVR; so I'll be setting it up too. Mini recaps on that might be a little late since I probably won't get to watch it till late at night. JudyB, you didn't miss anything.

Anon 7:39, yes, Sergio played a lawyer in love with the Venezolana YouTuber...after his
lawyer wife dumped him and the kids.

MIRADA

I think that sometime back, we surmised that Ramona is in luurve with Doc Mask. Why she would be is mind-boggling! Anywhoo, we thought that when she suggested that he forget Marina and look to someone who could love him the way he should be loved...or something like that. And yes, I do like that "llamada de la sangre" ...very strong and both feel it.

Nina, re Susana "If they want to kill somebody off now
She's be a good choice." I think so too!

Andy, Chucha can be a nickname for persons whose name starts with Susa. Children tend to substitute the "ch" for the "s" so I think that is where that nickname was derived...just my theory :-)

Judyb, that scene you described was quite funny. Have you noticed that when Don Louse refers to Susana, he says "Mi Chucha"? I"m wondering if they've already had a fling in the past. And yes, the term they used is "sirveme," since they speak to each other informally. If they were talking formally, then it would have been "sirvame." But I bet you know that already, right? :-)

Well, thanks for the recap, Anita. I have not been able to watch right now, but I am trying to keep up with the story. There are a lot of characters . I am a little lost at this point.

Hah, you give me too much credit Rgv Chick. The grammar changes in the imperative is always vague in my mind. Circling the airport but never quite landing as they say.

Mirada

Rgv Chickie, thanks for the info re "Chucha".

Have you noticed that when Don Louse refers to Susana, he says "Mi Chucha"?

Nope, it went right over my head, or in one ear and out the other, or something. I never noticed. I enjoy these TNs and I'm very happy that my comprehension of spoken Spanish is much better than it was a couple of years ago, but I'm not even at the 50% mark yet. But I do enjoy some of the TNs and am seldom very lost because of recaps and comments. Fun!

Mirada
I am doing this afternoon's Mirada recap, I was not doing yesterday's recap. I might be doing another one in the future. Anyhooo, so much for a grammar lesson for today. See you all later.

Mirada--
Thanks, RGV for the well-detailed recap. Just finished reading it. One little detail that caught my eye was when Beto and Vane were in the kitchen talking, I thought she was going to sort of "come clean" about her feelings for him withering, until she saw Chucha on the stairs, within hearing distance. Just her presence was menacing. Vane folded like a slick deck of cards.

BTW, my future Americanized Cuban grand-daughter-in-law (July 21, everybody), calls her mother Chachi and her grandmother Cuca. It was a little hard to get used to at first, but now it rolls off my tongue easily. I can see why, though, their given names are almost unpronounceable in English or Spanish. (And no, she doesn't watch telenovelas until I got her hooked on Amar a Muerte after it ended, because Michel Brown looks a lot like my grandson will look in about 20 years!)

MIRADA
Epi #26 Pt 1 of 4 – Breaking Up is Hard to do When you Don’t Want to
*Don Luis tells Marga he’s leaving for the capital for a few days on business. He’s not sure exactly when he’ll be back. Beto enters and wants to know if he’s leaving because he doesn’t like seeing him with Marina. Beto wonders if Don Louse can ever see Marina as his life’s companion. Don L. thinks it’s a little precipitous to be thinking of that. Beto is sure it’s love. Don L. suggests it’s just a bit of “calentura,” a nice way of saying sexual arousal and nothing more. He continues that Beto still has a lot ahead of him, studying for his medical specialty. Beto comes back with, but it’s ok if it were Vane. Don L. says that’s different, Vanecita is like family. Susana was going to give them a house [ed. note: HOW?] and Don L. was going to help them economically. To make sure, Beto asks a different way, would Don L. support the relationship with Marina if he made it official? Beto gets his answer, “Wait a few years, then see if Marina is the one for you. We’ll see. Oh, and take care of your Ma.”

*Marina feeds Damiana veggie soup, made mostly of potatoes and some stringy green things. She gets a couple of chunks in when Tori arrives with apples and lets it be known that Don L. has sent Zack away to some other Pueblo. Dam practically chokes and gets a bit agitated. [ed. note: You’d think she’d be more at peace knowing that he’s gone.] Marina thought she heard her say something about, “Take it…” and assumes she wants to be cleaned up. She’ll give her a sponge bath (1) .

*Angsty is asking Beto if he’s really going to take Marina and her mother to the city. He says yes, so they’ll be near the doctor. She is shocked when Beto says they’ll all live together in the same apartment while he works and studies. Beto assures her it will all be on the up and up because he’s going to ask her to marry him. For some reason, Pru is listening at the wide open door without being seen. Angsty says she’s in favor of Marina being the one for Beto, but thinks he ought to wait until his parents accept her. He’s sure his pa will never accept her, but once married, he’ll have to accept the situation. He plans to be married before he leaves for the city.

*Lino finds Vane moping by a rushing stream. She gets up and says they have nothing to say to each other. He thinks they do. Doesn’t he understand, she says, they can’t be together? Lino points out that with Beto and Marina together, they are free to be together. Vane states she doesn’t love him. He reminds her of their kisses and how they trembled with passion with each embrace. Vane insists she was just passing time with him to avoid the Beto drama, but she would never lower herself to be with someone like him. He’s a nobody. Lino takes another look at her, standing there with her arms crossed in front and says, “Another time I would have covered your lips with kisses, but now you’ve really hurt me.” He turns and leaves before she can say anything else. Now she really has something to mope about.

Epi #26 Pt 2 of 4 – Breaking Up is Hard to do When you Don’t Want to
*Pru and Beto are discussing his next steps. She’s worried about his future. She thinks he ought to dedicate 100% to his studies. He insists he’s going to work. He needs to emancipate himself and not depend on his parents supporting him. Pru thinks marrying Marina now is too hasty. Beto tells her Marina is the one for him and it is his decision.

*Don L. tells Su she’s in charge of checking on Damiana. Su wonders how she’s to do that. Don L. says it’s easy, just as Beto. Su bats her eyes and tells the big guy she’s going to miss him. He accept the batted eyes and ignores the rest of her body language.

*Yola pays a visit to Pru. Pru asks Yola a favor, to have Marina meet her at Yola’s house that afternoon, so Pru can visit with her alone. Pru asks her not to tell anyone and above all, that Marina not say a word to Beto.

*Vane is torn up by what she said to Beto and flings herself down on her bed, remembering to fling her hair back first so her profile is visible.

*Lino arrives back home as Yola is leaving for Marina’s house. She can see he’s very upset. He tells her about his encounter with Vane. It’s over he shouts. He’s going to wash that woman right out of his…song repertoire and won’t pursue her any more—ever. [ed. note: We’ll see how that goes, big boy.] He throws something that breaks something else, then cries very macho tears.

*Yola arrives at Marina’s and gives her Pru’s message. Yola calls Pru and tells her everything is set up. Marina is concerned by all the secrecy. She asks Yola to help her give Dam a sponge bath (2). Tori returns to find they haven’t given Dam a sponge bath (3).

Beto is at the clerk’s office getting all the skinny on what documents he needs to get married. Oh, oh, he will need birth certificates. That might be a problem. He will also need a medical certificate showing that neither party has a pre-existing chronic illness, contagious, incurable or hereditary condition. [ed. note: How does the government treat blind or deaf persons in Mexico?]

*Isauro is listening to classical music to soothe his nerves. [ed. note: Why is it that villains in both English and Spanish language tv stories are the ones who appreciate classical music?] Isauro shares with Ramona that he visited Marina and accepts that she fell in love with another man. Ramona urges him to think of Marina in a different way. He just can’t. She avers that the woman who would love him as he is, with all his scars, is very near. She realizes what she said and flees the room as Isy says, partly out loud, “You will never be Marina.” Claire de Lune is playing when Ramona returns with a little more Beto talk. He’s in town and perhaps it’s time to make his peace, now that Beto and Marina are together. He hurries out and catches up with Beto and tells him about giving Marina her registration papers. He cedes his place to Beto. Beto is skeptical, even as Isy says the only thing he’s ever wanted was Marina’s happiness. He stands ready to go to her house, help her study. Beto cuts him off. He tells Isy Marina doesn’t need his help, she can do it all by herself. He turns and leaves Isy standing there.

Epi #26 Pt 3 of 4 – Breaking Up is Hard to do When you Don’t Want to
*Beto and Angsty meet again in one of the rooms. He tells her he needs an engagement ring. When Angsty again questions the decision, he assures her that Marina will still be able to do all the things she’d planned to do, they’ll just be doing them together. This time he’s marrying for love. (Take THAT Sudoodoo.)

*A creaky door announces Su’s arrival in Vane’s room. She tells her to shape up and show up for dinner. It’s her time to shine and show Beto who is the better woman for him. Next she barges in on Pru only to find the bedroom empty. She starts calling out for her. Angsty shows up and they worry. Hortencia spills the beans that she went out a little while ago.

*Marina waits for Pru at Yola’s house. (Where did Lino go?) Pru knocks and Marina lets her in. Pru says it was important they talk. She thinks to herself that she hates having to break her heart, but goes ahead and does it anyway. She begins. Even though they received Marina into their home, they aren’t ready to receive her as part of the family. Marina asks what about the love she and Beto have for each other. Pru says that in life, love is not enough. He threatened to leave the house because of her. Marina senses where this is going. She swears she’s not a bad person. Then Pru drops DA LOVE BOMB. She tells Marina she is not the right person for her son. For the good of the family, she needs to break up with Beto. For the good of the family she needs to end their relationship. Before Beto got to know her, the family was quite unified. Now they spend their time fighting. If she really loves Beto, she needs to leave him. [ed. note: That llamada de la sangre is dormant right now.] Visibly upset, Marina promises to do as she asks. Pru thanks her. Marina says there’s nothing to thank her for. She’s only doing this for her love for Beto. Pru leaves and Marina dissolves into tears.

*Baldo brings Dam more produce, which Yola doesn’t think she’d be able to eat just yet. Beto arrives to check her out. He’s brought a rubber ball to exercise with. When Tori asks where Marina is, Yola lies and says she went to the mountains to look for plants. Beto can’t wait any longer, but he’ll be back with something lovely. Meanwhile Baldo is talking to Dam. He’s resigned to her leaving with Marina and Beto to go live in the city. He cries macho tears. Dam joins him with a few of her own.

*Su has asked Margarito to go look for Pru everywhere. They’re afraid she might have fallen into the waterfall. Pretty soon every hand is on deck to join the search for Pru. Erasmo tells Margarito that Zack left the ranch on orders of Don Louse. Apparently this is the first Margaro has heard about it.

Epi #26 Pt 4 of 4 – Breaking Up is Hard to do When you Don’t Want to
*Angsty is getting chewed out by Su when Pru shows up. She makes up some story about going to see Yola for one of the apple things she makes. Angsty sees right through her story, but holds back for now.

*Marina has stopped on her way home. Leaning against a tree, she wonders why love isn’t enough. She wants Beto to be ok. She only wants the best for Beto.

*Baldo makes Tri leave Dam’s house. It’s night and Yola is still there, waiting for Marina to return. When she does, she tells Marina that Beto needs to see her and is waiting for her in their place in the park. She’ll go, if Yola can stay a bit longer, because she needs to talk to Beto, too.

*Pru is getting a talking to from Angsty when Su barges in—again. The two of them are alone and Pru finally tells Su she went to meet Marina and told her to end the relationship with Beto. Surprised, Su asks if she really did that. Pru says yes, and Marina agreed. Pru says she doesn’t feel well about this. Then why, Su wonders did she ever open her house to her. It was Don L. idea. Su praises Pru for putting her son first (and putting Vane back in the running). Don L. will be glad when he learns the Cieguita has been kicked out and peace returns to the household. Then, she actually says that now Vane will have the opportunity to show Beto all her love. Pru says that’s not why she feels the way she does. Marina, she says, is not an opportunist, she really loves Beto.

*Yola waits for Marina and goes outside, leaving Damiana ALONE. No, Zack is there, prowling around. When he sees his chance, he walks in and threatens Dam. He tells her he could end her life right there and then, but won’t. She’d just better not mention his name when she recovers—and she will. As Yola returns rather quickly, he hides and as Yola goes to Dam’s side, he gets away.

*Marina reaches the gate by their swing. Beto is waiting for her with something important to ask her. She speaks first. They have to end this. She can’t be his girlfriend. She’s decided. Beto needs a reason. He hugs her. Knowing they love each other, he’ll do anything for her. She finally comes out with it. She’s not the woman he needs by his side. She’ll never fit in with his family, his world, their customs. She’s not going to the capital with him. She wants to stay there and be the person she is.

(1)(2)(3) What was it with all those references to sponge baths, anyway.

*Vane is torn up by what she said to Beto and flings herself down on her bed, remembering to fling her hair back first so her profile is visible.

So right, Anita. We wouldn't want to miss that lovely profile, nor that gorgeous hair. Otherwise though, Vanessa is a bit of a drag. No character. No smarts. No talents. Evidently a good kisser but other than "calentura" I don't really see what she has going with Lino.

And though honestly I want our sweet Marina and Beto to end up together, the parents' advice to wait a bit, know each other better before marrying sounds awfully reasonable doesn't it. (Or else I'm a hopeless old fogey).

Lots of macho tears this afternoon. Baldo's hand wringing and whimpering didn't do much for me and didn't seem to do much for Damiana either. Now if Colunga came galloping up on a trusty steed, that might be different.

Thanks for a fun recap with lots of burning questions like: yeah, what is up with all the sponge bath quips?

Excelente, Anita! You got quite an episode with lots of action and conversation, yet you captured every moment vividly. Thank you so much! (And my roses thank you too because they got some much needed attention.)

I don't know why, but my favorite scenes always include those with Tori. Loved when he told Marina that he hadn't taken a bath in TWO days! Then when he came back and Marina told him she hadn't given Damiana her sponge bath, he high-tailed it outta there to go look for some more fruit. He is such a cutie!

JudyB, I'm with you on the waiting a bit to get to know each other better. Exactly how long have they known each other? Has it been at least a month?

Oops, post above was about MIRADA.

MIRADA

Thank you for your recap, Anita, along with your funny editorial asides. Well done!

I agree Beto and Marina don't know each other, but hey! this is telenovelalandia and I'm wearing my beanie hat. 😉

The sponge bath thing was funny.

When Mari was putting that chunky vegetable soup in Damiana's mouth, I wondered if Dam might choke on it. 😳 The woman is unconscious. How will she chew it?!? Oh, right, telenovela beanie hat time.......

I have to admit I like Doc Masks's taste in music.

And finally there is no doubt now why Ramona stays with Doc Sicko.. Ack! She needs an intervention asap!

Vane really hurt Lino when she called him dirt poor and I felt badly for him.

" [ed. note: That llamada de la sangre is dormant right now.]". Isn't that the truth!!! I can't wait til the secret is made public.

DOÑA FLOR
Ep 6: The Con Gets Conned

*Valdeorraban is upset because Val and Flor aren’t disappointed about losing the lotto which was worth 300 million pesos; in fact they are happy…of course they are practically nekked. Val shares his dream about owning a casino. Flor would open a dance academy and offer grants to those who couldn’t afford it. Val gets somber because he can’t give her everything she wants, but Flor doesn’t want him to give him everything; she wants to do things equally.

*Teo is at Rosalia’s home. She wants to get a little nasty and wants him to call her “Rose.”, but Teo gets nervous and starts sneezing; he might be allergic to the fish. After he runs off, Marga comes out and is surprised that Teo already left. When Marga comments that they don’t seem to be acting like novios. Rose insists that she will marry Teo despite what destiny or anyone else says.

Time passes—

*Val is at the taco stand with Chie when he sees Flor and gets dreamy-eyed. When he runs to her, Chile is bothered.

*Mariana takes Xochil to try on her communion dress. She tells the seamstress that she isn’t sure she will have the money for a dress for herself, but Aure tells her that he has more than enough money.

*Val and Flor are at the taco stand when two cops come by asking for their permit. Val wasn’t able to pick it up in the morning and thinks that they can come to some agreement. When the cops insist on taking him in, Flor intercedes and they all start arguing at the same time; so both of them are led away by the cops.

*Mariana insists on knowing where Aure is getting money since he hasn’t told her where he works. Aure finally admits that he is “just a chauffeur.” Mariana assures him that she doesn’t care that he is a chauffeur since it is an honorable job.

*Val and Flor are waiting for the cops inside the patrol truck. Flor wonders why Val lied to her about the permit and then he had the audacity to try to bribe the cops. Val smiles and thinks she is beautiful. He starts kissing her and they slide down onto the seat. Chile comes by and knocks on the window. He tells Val that it’s a good time to get away, but when he looks inside the window he is quite shocked.

*Octavio gives Aure a job to do on the day of his daughter’s communion. Aure tries to get out of it, but Octavio won’t take no for an answer.

*Flor pleads with the cops who are taking them in because of their indecent act. Flor turns to Val and chides him because they won’t be able provide for their kids. Val follows her lead and adds that they have 7 children who will probably end up in an orphanage. The cops agree to let them go, but they won’t get their stand back until they pay the fine. As they walk away, Val and Flor wonder what they are going to do since they don’t have their stand. Chile reminds Val that they can still make money with the tourists. When Flor insists on going with them, Chile asks her if she knows English. Chile is surprised when she responds in English which she has studied for three years. After Chile leaves to go get something to munch on, Val and Flor join some others in a dance on the sidewalk. Everyone stops to watch them. When they finish, a woman comes up to them and asks if they can teach her and her husband to dance…they will pay.

*Val and Flor are at a restaurant finishing up lunch. As Flor turns to look for some money. Val places a big flu in her soup. He calls the owner over and the owner offers not to charge them for the food. After they leave, Flor figures out that he put the fly in the soup. Later they discuss teaching dance since Flor made quite a bit of money teaching the couple their dance moves.

DOÑA FLOR
Ep 6, Part 2: The Con Gets Conned

*Val goes to see about renting a dance studio for Flor and sweet talks the lady into letting him only give 3 months in advance with no deposit, plus a 20% discount. He decorates it; and on the day he brings Flor with eyes covered and everyone shouts out “Surprise!,” a man soon arrives demanding that Val pay him the deposit and 3 months in advance. After Val argues that he already made a deal with Iris, the proprietor, and paid her, the man tells him that there is no landlady. The only lady in the building employed by him is the cleaning lady and she split early in the morning taking everything with her.

*Teo tells Oscar about the fiasco at Marga’s house. He got so nervous he spilled all the salt and Marga had a fit because it would mean bad luck in the future.

*Flor sits with Val outside. He could kick himself for getting swindled; now they have no money. Flor assures him that they will make ends meet; she will help him now since he has been helping her so much. Val feels bad because he wanted to provide for her, but Flor doesn’t want to be provided for; she wants them both to work together and provide for each other equally. Flor then suggests that they can return to her hometown and live in the house her father left them; they call it the Rose House. It is old and small, but they can remodel it and maybe even open a dance academy there in her home town. When Val reminds her that she never wanted to return to her hometown, Flor explains that now it is different since she has him…with him, she’ll go anywhere (isn’t that sweet?)

*Val tells Chile about their plans to go back to hometown. Chile is upset because he thought they were family and family doesn’t abandon each other. He insists on going with them since Val has always said that they would go everywhere together.

*Flor calls her mom and tells her that she is coming back into town. Mom isn’t thrilled at all and she is even more upset when Flor tells her that she is not returning alone…since she had a quickie wedding...and married Val. Mom is quite vocal (too vocal) in letting Flor know how disappointed and upset she is since she had always thought that she would be present on such an important day for Flor.

*Flor and Val are preparing to leave. Flor is now walking without a cane sine she has improved so much. Chile shows up and Flor is surprised to learn that he is going with them; so she asks Val for a minute to talk privately. Val explains that he couldn’t leave Chile behind since they are like brothers and have always been together.

*Rose arrives home to find that Margarita has all of Flor’s things packed since she doesn’t want to see anything that has to do with Flor. Marg is still upset that Flor is returning and MARRIED! Rose thinks it’s wonderful that Flor is married (and we know why). Rose then goes around town and spreads the gossip while she makes her sales. Amanda wants to have a welcome back party for Flor and her new hubby, Val.

DOÑA FLOR
Ep 6, Part 3: The Con Gets Conned

*Flor calls Mariana to tell her that she is returning to town. Mariana thinks she is only returning for Xochil’s communion, but Flor clarifies that she is returning to stay. Flor asks Mariana not to mention to her mother that she is returning to stay because Flor didn’t dare tell her mother that part yet.

*Teo decides to have a serious talk with Rose. He stutters nervously (as Sergio used to stutter on PATM) as he tells her that they can’t go on. He gave it a try, but he always feels like he is lying to her. Rose thinks that Teo doesn’t know what he is saying and tells him to think about it. She blames everything on the spilling of salt earlier; it brought them bad luck. Teo insists that that isn’t it, but Rose demands that he think more on it because she is the perfect woman and she knows EVERYTHING about him…and she is his DAMNED girlfriend! Teo calmly tells her that she is only his assistant…that is all she is, but he hopes that she will continue to be his assistant. Rose now blames everything on Flor. She tells Teo that he will be able to see things clearly when Flor returns…married.

Ok thanks for the recap Anita.
Pru shouldn't have broken her daughter's heart like that. And as the family being happy before
Marina showed up...what a load of bull. That family is so full of crap. Pretentious phonies all
Of them. They think they'd have peace with beto n van-nesa getin
Married? No. And how the hell is sudoodoo gonna give somebody a house when she don't have a pot to pee in herself?

And where is Don lousey sneakin
Off to? He up to somethin. Evil.

So Ramona got the hots for the mask? Seriously? Why? Part of this tn is in the twilight zone
(The mask & ramona) and the other half in the outer limits, that would be(sudoodoo and van).
In what universe did Ramona ever think that would work?
I'd like to see the engagement ring beto was gonna give marina.

Good recap. Thanks Anita.

Ok that⤴up there with the shock face was because I misread when you said "oops post
Above was MIRADA", I thought you posted the wrong recap in The right place. I thought you said "was not" MIRADA. OK I'M 3GOIN to bed.😩

Ignore the 3, it means nothing.

Thank you to the recappers and commenters. I enjoy vicariously being part of the Caray Caray patios every day. Where is Kirby?

Mirada

Anita, thank you! Your recap was a fun read.

Now we know! Ramona is nuttier than a fruit cake and, yeah, obviously a masochist since she has a thing for the Doc. That came as a bit of a surprise to me, I missed any signs before. Somebody should tell her that the best way to Doc Mask's heart is "through his chest, with a sharp knife."

And what gives with Pru? She tells Susana that Marina and Beto love each other, but wants Marina to break it off? For what? To have a little more peace in the house? Is the woman crazy? She herself doesn't seem that class conscious, but she wants to break up her son's romance to make Don Louse and Susana happy? Hmmm, Don Louse and Susana happy... Well we'll see.

andy

Oh my Rgv Chick. Your recap of Flor was marvelous.

"When he runs to her, Chile is bothered" is but one example of your ability to phrase perfectly. It was so well written I could "see" it in my mind's eye.

"Val explains that he couldn’t leave Chile behind since they are like brothers and have always been together". Love and loyalty. An unbreakable bond.

"He stutters nervously (as Sergio used to stutter on PATM) as he tells her that they can’t go on. He gave it a try, but he always feels like he is lying to her". Have to give Teo credit. I do not care for Rose. At all. Sorry, but she is beyond pushy and rather unlikeable. Don't even get me started on Flor's mother!

So, the trio is going home. This will be an interesting return.

Rgv Chick, thank you! Have you cloned yourself? You seem to be writing these recaps fast and furious. We are so lucky to have you.

On Demand does not have any of these episodes posted so not sure if they are even going to have them available. But your words were worth more than any visual.

Thank you!

"So Ramona got the hots for the mask? Seriously? Why? Part of this tn is in the twilight zone"
Nina, that had me laughing because you are so right! 😄

Andy - Love it! LOL

Mely, yes, we are missing Kirby.

I hope he will stop by the patio soon.

Doña Flor

Thanks for keeping us up to date on the mishaps of Flor and Valentin Rgv Chick.. Val does indeed seem to be very poor at conning people...they all seem smarter than he is.

Mirada

Andy, I love your suggestion for reaching Doc Mask's heart. Alas, I doubt that lovesick Ramona will take it. But we can hope!

Good morning, patio. Thank you, Chickie.

I guess we could retitle this "Blame Flor." Isn't it interesting that some poor food always get the blame for anything that goes wrong in their orbit.

I cannot watch right now, so I especially appreciate the recaps.

Not food...folk. I thought that I proofread. Sorry.

So...would you go up to some random person in the street and ask for dance lessons?

MIRADA

Yessiree, Ramooned has the hots for Doc Mask...really bad; so bad that her neurons are messed up. Woman, stop looking through your very rose-colored glasses and get the heck out of there.

A small detail I noticed was that Don Louse was wearing a pink shirt. Not that I have anything against pink shirts on men, but it was odd for such a macho man.

DONA FLOR

Diana, I hope you find the episode somewhere. I just can't see how people didn't get hooked om this TN. The chemistry between Flor and Val is quite good, but what is even better is the way they support each other and go out of their way to help each other out....ahhh true love!

Susanlynn, yes, this time it was the spilled salt; maybe the next one will be blamed on spilled beans??? :-)

OT-Mely and Diana, Kirby is having fun and spending time with his toys (i.e., boat, jet skis, motorcycle and trucks). Hopeofully, he'll drop in occasionally until a TN that attracts his attention comes up. I do miss his avatars and snarky comments.

OT
Anita, "It seems to me that Univision doesn't really want people watching their tns. Is this some long-term strategy?" I've been pondering this for quite some time. What comes to mind is that Univision not only has Telemundo and Unimas as competitors; they also have ABC, NBC, and CBS. I'm wondering if Univision is trying to slowly transition to programming similar to the English language stations--TNs (soap operas) and talk shows during the day and dramas/crime series during primetime. Just my (conspiracy) theory.

Pardon me, Susanlynn. I forgot to respond to your question---NO, I would not go up to someone on the street and ask for dance lessons. Beanie time?

MIRADA

"He will also need a medical certificate showing that neither party has a pre-existing chronic illness, contagious, incurable or hereditary condition."
What was all that about??? Do they really ask all those questions in Mexico for a marriage license? QTH?

Chickie,I feel that I must share with you that my sweet hub was a 200 lb. 6 foot former heavy weight wrestler in high school who loved to tell me that he was "big enough " to wear pink whenever I gave him a pink tie or shirt. Real men can wear any color. Confidence is a very attractive quality .

I miss Kirby and his unique , spicy view of people and events. He gave me the gift of laughter. ..and pictures of the moon.

MIRADA
Ep 27: Part 1 You’re Mine Now, Marry Me

*Marina cries as she insists that they need to end it because she won’t be able to get accustomed to his ways. Beto knows that she isn’t telling him the whole truth and questions her incessantly; so Marina pleads with him not to ask her any more questions.

*Susana praises Pru for bringing peace to their home. When Pru worries about how Beto will suffer, Su tells her not to worry so much; men can leave a woman and quickly find a replacement. She reminds Pru that Vanesa is waiting for Beto and insists that Pru shouldn’t let her emotions get in the way of what she set out to do; it’s best to sacrifice the blind girl who they don’t even know well.

*Beto doesn’t give up on his questioning and won’t leave Marina regardless of how many times she asks him to leave her. When Marina blurts out that she promised to leave him, Beto wonders who she made the promise to, but Marina quickly adds that she made the promise to herself. She doesn’t want him to sacrifice his career, his family or his father’s love. Beto holds her close assuring her that he loves her. Marina loves him too, but he shouldn’t make things more difficult for her. Beto asks that he let her love her; he wants their good-bye to be a memorable one.

*Su tells Pru that Don Louse will be proud of her, but Pru asks that Su not tell him what she did. As Su tells her that they should cross their fingers and hope Beto comes to tell them of his break up with that girl, Angsty walks in and overhears. After Su leaves, Angsty asks Pru why Su said that; so Pru confesses that she did something unforgiveable.

*Marina cries and asks Beto to let her go, but he can’t. He keeps kissing her and caressing her as he holds her close. Her cries turn to smiles as she tells Beto that she is feeling so many things; she is afraid and doesn’t know what to think or feel. Beto continues to show her his love and asks her to go with him. He guides her off into the woods.

*Margarito tells Lino that he is going to look for Yola. He then turns back when Lino just sits like a bump on a log. Margarito chides Lino for just waiting and hoping that Vanesa gives him a look, but Lino assures him that he isn’t waiting any longer since she told him that he was nothing to her. Margo advises him not to let her get to him; he is a hard worker and there are several girls in town who would want to be with someone like him. Lino agrees that there could be someone else out there for him; he shouldn’t settle for the crumbs that girl throws at him.

*Angsty chides Pru for allowing Su to influence her, but Pru admits that she did this on her own. When Angsty tells her that she should have talked to Beto instead of Marina, Pru doesn’t think he would have listened. Pru points out that it is done and now everything depends on Marina.

*Beto and Marina are in an old wooden shack loving each other. They kiss softly as Beto starts to undress her.

*Zackrat calls Don Louse and asks if he can return to the ranch. Don Louse gives him a firm “NO!” He is being kept informed about Damiana’s progress and will let Zackrat know of any new developments.

*Margarito arrives at Damiana’s house to see what is taking Yola so long. He goes in to see Damiana and tells her to remain calm since Yola had told him that she had become agitated. She is a strong woman and he wants to see her walking around again. When Yola mentions that Marina is planning to go to the city and plans to take Damiana, Margarito assures Damiana that they will always be like family to him.

MIRADA
Ep 27: Part 2 You’re Mine, Marry Me

*Su tells Vanesa about Pru talking to Marina. Vanesa doesn’t think Marina will leave Beto.

*Beto tells Marina that she can no longer leave him; they are one now. Marina agrees that she is his and he is hers forever. Beto then gives her the engagement ring and asks her to marry him. Marina says, “YES!” Beto wants them to marry ASAP. When Marina asks if he isn’t going to tell his parents, Beto responds that they wouldn’t support him. When Marina worries about her exams and his studies, Beto will make sure she takes her exams and he will figure out something for his studies; the important thing is that they get married so she can go with him to the city. Beto then tells Marina about all the info they need to get married. He will go for her the next day.

*Margarito and Yola talk about Lino. Margarito is glad that Lino finally accepted that he needs to look elsewhere for love and that the upper class doesn’t mix with the lower class. He asks Yola to consider one of her friends for Lino.

*Beto takes Marina home. After they kiss and he leaves, Marina confides in Yola that this is the most beautiful day in her life…since she and Beto made love.

*Beto gets home and is confronted by Su since he hasn’t been answering his phone. When she tells him that they were hoping he would bring Marina for dinner, Beto tells her that Marina will not be returning to that house again.

*Marina tells Yola about Pru’s conversation with her and how Pru doesn’t approve of their relationship. Yola thought Pru was a nicer person and curses herself for setting up the meeting. Marina assures Yola that she is not going to give up on Beto. Their love is so strong that she is going to help him become a great doctor and she plans to accomplish the same; she wants Beto to be proud of her….because he asked her to marry him. They both squeal with joy.

*Beto talks to Eric on the phone and is sure someone from the house put all the ideas into Marina’s head to get her away from him. Eric suggests that Beto not tell anyone about marrying Marina. He then tells Beto that his father has found a place for him at his business.

*Marina wishes things were different, but she and Beto will show everyone that the most important thing is love. After Yola suggests that Marina keep things quiet, Marina asks her to be their witness.

*Angsty takes Beto some supper and tries to get info from him. When she asks if he is going to marry Marina, he responds that he needs to secure a job first.

*As Marina feeds Damiana, she tells her about getting married to Beto. Damiana reacts and Marina interprets it as her approval. Marina smiles as she tells Damiana of their plans to go to the city where they will live in a small apartment. She will decorate it so Damiana will be comfortable; and Marina will work hard to help Beto. They will be very happy.

*Vanesa tells Su that she doesn’t think Marina left Beto since she is so in love with him. She suggests that Su confirm that Marina broke it off with Beto before doing anything else.

*Pru asks Angsty if Beto told her anything. Angsty tells her that the only thing he said was that he needed to secure a job before thinking about getting married. After Angsty leaves, Su comes in and questions Pru. Pru doesn’t know anything. Su suggests that Pru ask Beto, but Pru is afraid that he will know that she talked to Marina.

*Beto calls Baldo and asks him to be their witness. Baldo gladly agrees; and when he tells Tori about it; Tori wants to be a witness too.

*Pru goes to Beto to see what info she can get. He tells her that he has to concentrate on getting his specialty certification; it’s what is best for him. Pru leaves relieved.

MIRADA
Ep 27: Part 1 You’re Mine, Marry Me

*Marina looks for her birth certificate. When Yola reminds her that Doc asked her for it when he was filling out her documentation, Marina responds that she will have to ask him for it. She thinks that when she tells Doc about marrying Beto, he won’t be able to believe it (Nope! He won’t!)

*Doc thinks about Don Louse saying that Marina was so inferior to them. He knows that Don Louse is underestimating Marina.

*Su goes to question Pru again. She thinks Beto must have broken up with Marina, but they still can’t be sure. When Su suggests that Pru go to Marina to ask her, Pru refuses and tells Su that she’d better not even think of doing it herself. Su wonders who could confirm it.

*Beto and Lino talk since neither one can sleep. Lino recalls their childhood and all the pranks they would pull. They then talk about fighting for what one loves. When Lino comments that it’s like swimming against the current and getting so tired that you eventually get taken by the current, Beto assumes that he is going through something similar.

*Su tells Vanesa that they still aren’t sure if Marina broke it off with Beto. She suggests that Vanesa question Angsty since Beto usually confides in her.

Next Day—

*Angsty asks Vanesa if Lino has tried to get close to her. Vanesa denies it and adds that she doubts if he will try since she treated him badly. Angsty advises Vanesa not to be influenced by her mother, but Vanesa thinks her mother is right since Lino has nothing to offer her. When Angsty comments that parent’s pass on their prejudices which affect their children, Vanesa assumes she is talking about Beto, but Angsty is thinking of all of them since they could all be so happy if things were different.

*Baldo and Tori arrive at Damiana’s house. They are very happy for her. Beto arrives soon after and asks if she is ready since he wants to be the first ones to arrive. Marina is quite ready and they leave.

*Vanesa has told Su about her conversation with Angsty. Su assumes that Beto did end his relationship, but Vanesa isn’t sure since Angsty didn’t give her that much info. Su tells her that she needs to read between the lines. When she tells Vanesa that it’s time to take action since Beto will need some consolation, Vanesa thinks it’s too soon, but Su insists that Vanesa needs to be Beto’s fiancée before they get kicked out of their apartment.

OT

Susanlynn "Real men can wear any color." Very true about REAL MEN, but Louse is not a man, he is an evil, egotistical ogre. :-)

Mirada

Thanks Ms Chickie, I really enjoyed your recap. What a fun episode it was.

I was very surprised and impressed that Beto did not just slink away, brokenhearted in the telenovela way, but persisted with Marina. And when they were embracing and his hand went to her skirt, and the sound track did some kind of musical thump, I knew something was in the works.     :-)

So they are definitely together now, but unless this is a very short TN there have to be problem(s) ahead.

I used to have a pink shirt that I liked a lot, but I could never get used to the buttons being on the wrong side.

:-)

andy

Andy, ha...thanks for the giggle.

Thank you for another great recap, Rgv Chick.

Wow, Beto and Marina have done the deed. Will she be pregnant after this? So much for keeping her promise to
Pru. Their love will overcome everything. 🙄

Telling Tori about the wedding might be a mistake. He could blab it to the wrong person.

" Cada oveja con su pareja" was a new one for me. (Birds of a feather flock together.)

DONA FLOR

Rvg Chick, thanks so much for the recap! I had definitely missed some things so it was very helpful, plus it's fun to get your take on it. I really like Val and Chile's relationship! I hope they have some flashbacks to their boyhood days together in the orphanage. Val and Flor are good together. And Flor just seems like a nice person -- some women would have tried hard to keep Chile from tagging along but she realizes that Chile and Val are each other's family, and that's that. I'm not clear if they all plan to stay with Flor's mother when they return to the village or someplace else -- I guess I will find out tonight. I hope that Val doesn't get sucked into the local casino but since he said his dream was to own a casino, I imagine he will. Looking forward to tonight's episode! It's really a charming show.

DOÑA FLOR
Ep 7: Welcome Back…or Maybe Not

*After Rose tells Teo that Flor is returning with a husband, she storms out, slithers down the wall and cries her little black heart out.

*Val and Flor are trying to sit down on the bus, but Chile wants to sit next to Val. He finally moves. Later at night, Val wakes up and looks at Flor sleeping. He kisses her softly until she wakes up. Val wants them to go continue in the restroom. Once in the restroom, they are about to undress each other when Chile knocks on the door; he reeeally needs to use the restroom.

*Val and Flor arrive at her hometown. Flor sees all her friends first, but then the holier than thou (HTT) ladies start gossiping and think that Flor must have gotten married because she is pregnant. When they shout at Flor to get out of town,. Val asks them if there is a problem, then sarcastically thanks them for their welcome and adds that they are good looking. Mariana welcomes Flor and invites them to go to her house before going over to her mom’s house. Val wonders where Chile is.

*At the casino, Aure is playing at a slot machine when Blondie comes to ask him to help her with her shoe. After she leaves, Octavio approaches and tells him he doesn’t want any problems; so the casino doors are closed to Aure…and he can’t mingle with the female (hooker) employees. Aure goes outside and Blondie asks if he is ready for the weekend. She hopes so because they will spend many hours together. She explains that when she is on a job, people think that she is having fun but that is not so. It’s when she feels the loneliest.

*The radio announcer who has a man’s voice but is dressed as a woman plays music.

* Val calls Chile who doesn’t answer; so Val leaves a message asking where he is. After he hangs up, he and Val talk to Mariana who suggests that they explain to Marga that theirs was a marriage of necessity…it’s not like they’ll be married for the rest of their lives. Flo and Val looks at each other; so Mariana wonders if they are considering staying together.

*Marga is leaving the store with some bread when one of the HTT ladies asks if she will be giving Flor a nice welcome…since she is pregnant. Margarita chides her for spreading gossip.

*At Mariana’s house, Flor and Mariana talk. Mariana emphasizes that Flor got married out of necessity. Flor agrees, but now she is not sure about ending the marriage since she feels that she and Val are truly a couple.

*Cassy asks Malba to talk to her father; she needs money, nothing else. Malba insists that her father might want to come see her. Cassy will allow him to come but he’d better not come empty handed.

*Val finds Chile who is trying to stay away…ever since Florecita came into their lives, it seems he has been flying alone. Meanwhile, Flor is telling Mariana that Chile is Val’s best friend…who is nice, but somewhat odd and clingy. As Mariana asks where Chile will stay, Val is telling Chile that he doesn’t know where Chile can stay; it’s not that easy since he and Flor will be staying at Flor’s mother’s house and Flor and her mother don’t get along. Chile tells Val not to worry, he will leave; he doesn’t know where he’ll go, but he will stay away.

DOÑA FLOR
Ep 7, Part 2: Welcome Back…or Maybe Not

*Val goes back to Flor feeling bad about Chile. Flor reassures him; Chile will understand and he will always be his friend. When Val responds that Chile has to understand that he and Flor are now together, Flor wonders if they are together…like….forever. As far as Val is concerned, they will be together forever. He doesn’t feel obligated to be with her; he is happy and wants to be with her.

*Flor knocks on the door, Marga comes out and as soon as she sees them, she goes back in. Flor knocks again; so Marga comes out again. Flor asks that they speak inside, but Marga decides who goes into her house and neither Flor nor Val are on her list. Marga wonders why Flor returned. Flor responds that she just wants things to be well between them, but Marga won’t allow it. Flor only came to tell her that she came back to stay. Marga doesn’t care what Flor does and makes it clear that she won’t allow them in her house.

*As Rose eavesdrops at the door, Teo talks to MIca about Flor getting married to that dummy who tried to steal her motorbike. He wonders what Val can offer Flor that he can’t provide. Mica mentions that she might be pregnant and advises him to forget about this person who doesn’t love him. Teo thinks Mica says things so easily...as if she doesn’t know what Flor means to him. Teo confides that there is no one better for him.

*Flor manages to get inside her mother’s house and talks about living in the house her father left them. She even offers to pay her for the house. Marga refuses to give it to her since Val will end up owning it too.

*Flor tells Val that her mother refused to let her have the house as she suspected; she should never have brought Val back to her hometown. Val insists that they will stay there and go see the house. Meanwhile, Marga calls Rose and Aure to come over ASAP because Flor wants to take the house from them.

*Val and Flor go look at the house which is in shambles. Val describes where everything will be. If anyone can make this work; they can…they are the dream team.

*Aure sees no problem in letting Flor have the house if she is going to buy them out. He thinks Marg and Rose have it against Flor and suggest they allow Flor to be happy. He thinks Rose is jealous of Flor. When they start arguing, Marga tells them she has enough problems without hearing them argue. Marga insists that the house has always belonged to the family and that is the way it’s going to stay.

*Flor and Val sit on the beachside. She tells Val that he and father would have gotten along. Val thinks so too…if he was anything like her. They talk about all the costs of remodeling the house, and Flor wonders where Val is going to get the money. He says from his investments. After they get lovey dovey, Val wants to go skinny dipping. Flor resists but then succumbs to his pleas (as she always does). Meanwhile Teo arrives and sees them in the water; he hangs his head and leaves. On the beachside, the radio announcer still dressed as a woman, takes Val’s and Flor’s clothes.

DOÑA FLOR
Ep 7, Part 3: Welcome Back…or Maybe Not

*Aure gets home in a rush and tells Mari that he has to work the next day. Mari argues that he has to be there; it is a very special day for his daughter. Aure promises to be there for the mass.

*Flor realizes that their clothes have been stolen. She worries that the townspeople are going to hang them and her mother will have a heart attack if they are seem walking around without clothes. The radio announcer who stole the clothes admires Flor’s dress and then announces that Flor is back. Meanwhile, Flor and Val run through town wrapped in only a towel until they arrive at Itzamara’s place. Flor and Val try to explain what happened; they both talk quickly and at the same time.

*Marga goes to talk to Oscar who is an attorney. She explains that Flor has returned with a husband who is an opportunist…and they want the house that her husband left for her children. Marga wants his help in keeping the house. When Oscar points out that the house belongs to Flor and Rose, Marga adds that it also belongs to Aure. Oscar wonders if Aure was part of the will. He reminds Marga that when she registered Aure after his birth, she made an error and wrote the name Elpidio Mora as Aure’s father. Marga slightly remembers and emphasizes that she just made a simple mistake, but Oscar remembers because it is not a common mistake. When he lectures her about how consequences can affect children, Marga leaves because she didn’t come for that.

*Itzamara lends Val and Flor clothes. She wants to tell Flor what she saw in the cards. Flor wants Val to hear also; so Itzamara tells them about her seeing a death in her cards. She also saw a man who represented love and passion for Flor…which must be this one (Val). She warns them that their relationship will not end well. Val points out that destiny has given him very good things; since he met Flor, he has been a much happier person.

*Teo is in deep thought and taking a drink. He suddenly stops, sits down…and has a gun!

O/T

Rgv Chick, thank you! Have you cloned yourself?

Diana, I don't think so, I don't think the technology is there yet. Maybe identical twins who occasionally do the Vulcan mind meld thing?

:-)

andy

OT—

Oooh, Andy, no mind melding permitted. I wouldn’t want anyone blackmailing me :-D

Mirada

Well, like Andy I expected Beto to go off in a blue funk, believing Marina didn't love him anymore. But seems he had an alternate plan. Since telenovela virgins are fertile as the Nile, I think we all know what's coming next. Sigh. Oh well, always sure that our young people will work things out in the end. After prolonged suffering.

May not get to Flor this week. But will catch up later.

Thank you, Chickie,

Poor Val and Flor..no home..now no clothes. Is there a reason Flor's mother is so mean to her ? I

What is up with the radio announcer? A very unusual character.

MIRADA
Andy, “I was very surprised and impressed that Beto did not just slink away…” Me too! I thought for sure, he was going to give, but wow, he was persistent and successful. And this is not a short TN; it has 112 episodes!

Doris, “Beto and Marina have done the deed. Will she be pregnant after this?” JudyB said it best—“Since telenovela virgins are fertile as the Nile, I think we all know what's coming next.” Thanks for noting the saying, “Cada oveja tiene su pareja.” They saying that Don Louse keeps using is “Se te va cargar el payaso” which means “You going to be lots of trouble” or “You’ll be in deep doodoo.” I had never heard that one!

DONA FLOR

Lynne, I really like Val and Chile’s relationship, too. They really compliment each other and are a riot. And “I hope that Val doesn't get sucked into the local casino but since he said his dream was to own a casino” Val is so impulsive and unpredictable, he may just get into that if money is tight…which it is right now Arggh!

Susanlynn, I have no idea what that radio announcer is up to...maybe trying to cause problems so he will have something to talk about on his show? That white haired wig he wears is horrid!

Mirada

“Se te va cargar el payaso”

That expression came up in Mi Marido Tiene Mas Familia. Jarifa had to explain it to us.

Thanks, JudyB! That's what I get for jumping ship on MMTMF Gahh!

MIRADA

The twin whirlwinds strike again with a double dose of daytime Uni (who doesn't deserve it--but we do). Thank you, RGV. Will get to Dona later.

Like Andy & JudyB, not only did I expect Beto to go off in a blue funk and leave Marina crying in the woods, I never expected them to end up making love. Marina just seems to chaste a girl. Beto sure must have some powerful pheromones at work.

Like Doris, I fully expect Tori to go hopping and skipping all around the pueblo shouting that he's going to be a witness. If Yola is going to be Marina's witness and Baldo Beto's and Tori flying around, who is thinking of Damiana? Are they planning to leave her alone? She's hardly in a position to defend herself against Zack. I noticed that he was already back at the ranch, outside the stables when he called Don Louse. So, he wasn't Far, Far, Away in the Next Galaxy at all.

About that birth certificate....did they ever find it? It should have been among the papers Doc Isy returned. If not, why didn't they mention it--needing to stop by on the way to the courthouse. He is certainly someone who shouldn't know that Beto and Marina are getting married. I bet (not much, just chump change) that he will say he doesn't have her birth certificate. As soon as they leave, he will drop a dime on Don Louse. Don Louse will call Zack and tell him to stop the wedding. The only other way is for Damiana to have an episode and everyone goes back to the cottage.

Speaking of Dam--this is the strangest coma I've ever witnessed in a tn. She opens her eyes, she eats, grimaces in a smile, she supposedly squeezes a hand in answer to questions, gets a nice sponge bath, but only mumbles unintelligible phrases. Well, the latter, we expect in our traditional telenovelas. Maybe she's the way she is because she was never hospitalized. Did everyone notice that her head wound is closed with just a few butterfly strips?

MIRADA

There's nothing in my Spanish or English vocabulary to describe the depths to which Su is willing to go to push Vane back into Beto's path. At this point, she couldn't do any worse than try out for the position herself, for all she's getting out of it. I wonder if she WILL take it upon herself to go see Marina, find her gone and do something to Dam or find the earrings or something. I think she will be the key to undoing the secret.

DONA FLOR

Another gem in RGV's crown of Queen of Recappers. Thank you for the translation! Just let me say that besides RGV doing the heavy lifting, Dona Flor is one tn I would never be able to recap and do it justice. I miss so much of the dialog and I don't know why--I should be better at this by now. (P.S. I did get it that Chile wanted to sit by the window because that's where the plug was for his iPhone. They ended up listening to the music with the wires across the aisle. Funny.)

Oh, and who undresses in one of those tiny bus restrooms for any reason, especially when there are two in there? It's even hard for ladies to do their business in those tight spaces. They should have taken Amtrak (much more room).

Susanlynn says, "Poor Val and Flor..no home..now no clothes. Is there a reason Flor's mother is so mean to her?" You wrapped it up nicely for us. I think Marga is mean because Flor is too much like her father, a dreamer and not a doer. Flor didn't do what Marga told her to do--and not dance was one of them. Marga is just an exaggerated character, so we'd be sure to notice how mean she is.

I think that I am getting these two telenovelas all mixed up together. ...Marida and Flor. I guess that I should stop reading the recap for Marida and concentrate on Flor.

Susanlynn--You haven't gotten them mixed up at all. We want your voice heard for both of them. Please keep reading and commenting. We love you.

Anita, thank you. I need all the love that I can get right now.

FLOR

Rgv Chick: You've graced us with another perfect title. And recap. You are amazing.

"holier than thou (HTT) ladies" was one of my favorites.

"Marga decides who goes into her house and neither Flor nor Val are on her list". Ack. The mother from Hades.

It sounds as though the trio is trying to accept the fact that is what they've become. Certainly more difficult for Chile who is the odd man out.

Sorry that Teo is taking things so hard, but of course, he would. I suspect his time will come.

Anita, your "Another gem in RGV's crown of Queen of Recappers" was lovely. I concur.

I also enjoyed your "They should have taken Amtrak (much more room)"! Excellent.

andy, nice to see you, Judy and Susanlynn here. Susanlynn, I can't watch Flor and feel as though I am on the outside at a gathering I wish I were part of but can't.

In the meantime, I am appreciative of your wonderful recaps RgvChick and while I've never seen Mirada, am enjoying the comments on that too.

Diana
