RGV Chick: Good Morning from San Antonio, TX!

Doña Flor
Ep 4 Part 1: Never Felt Like This Before

*Flor finally gets quiet so Val can say what he wants to say, but when he looks at her and stokes her face softly, Flor stops him and tells him she can’t have relations with him…especially if he is going to be her boss. She hopes that he can understand. Val gets up to leave and turns around to try to tell her the truth, but when she interrupts (again) and tells him not to worry or feel obligated about giving her a job, he loses the courage to tell her the truth.

*As he walks outside, Val sees a soccer ball coming toward him; and triggers a memory of him and Chile playing at the orphanage. He calls Chile who refuses to answer his call so he leaves a message apologizing for making decisions on his own. He asks Chile to forgive him and to return his call.

*Rosalia gets home to find her mother pissed because Mariana took the motorbike. She is worried about all the bills; so Rosalia assures her that she will take care of everything; she wants to get a second job.

*Time passes--Val continues to care for Flor and he continues with his taco stand. Chile shoes up to see Val while Flor talks to Mariana who tells her that she sold her bike and will send her the money which she has hidden well. Flor then confides that she feels bad that Val is helping her so much. When Mariana teases her that she is falling in love, Flor admits that Val is “special” but has some quirks. He supposedly has a lot of work, but he finds time to help her. He also left his suite to live close to her. As they talk, Aureliano looks for something to munch on. He gets a box of cereal and starts eating from the box where he finds a bundle of money. He goes straight to the casino and gambles. He ends up winning so he pays off his debt at the casino.

*Val shows Chile the money he made that day. Chile is not impressed and sows Val a bundle of money that he made. Chile shows Val how he got his money. He points to all the people in the park who have telephones, cameras, etc., but Val insists that he doesn’t want to steal or cheat people out of money. Chile can’t believe what Val is saying since he is the one who taught him everything he knows. Val then thinks that he could make some extra money by meeting some rich girls. He then talks Chile into helping him out with the taqueria while he takes Flor to therapy. Val takes a cab and while he is changing into his suit, Mariana calls him and asks him what his intentions are with Flor. She doesn’t want him to hurt Flor since she has had a hard life. Val assures her that his intentions are good and he won’t hurt Flor.

*Val goes to pay for Flor’s therapy, but only has enough money to pay for the previous day’s session. On their way back from therapy, Val explains to Flor that he doesn’t want to hire her as his secretary because then they wouldn’t be able to have relations; and he doesn’t want to lose that chance. He asks her to give him just a little leeway and just a small chance for something more. After they bump into Chile, they rush off before Chile reveals something he shouldn’t.

*Mariana tells Flor that Aureliano took her money. Flor is stressed so she tells Val who tells her not to worry; he will lend her the money she needs.

Doña Flor
Ep 4 Part 2: Never Felt Like This Before

*Val tells Chile that he needs money right away. Chile tells him he has a way to get money fast. They go to a club where Chile points out three foreign girls who will probably pay them for a good time. Val agrees since it only entails making sure that the girls are entertained at the club.

*Aureliano gets home to a very angry Mariana. He admits taking the money. He returns the money he took and apologizes. He wants to fix everything bad that he did; so he hands her some money to pay for their daughter’s first communion. Flor tells him that just because he returned the money doesn’t mean that she will be content. She wonders what will happen when his luck runs out; she can’t trust or believe him. The only reason that she is still with him is so that Xochil won’t suffer. When Aurelio assures her that he loves her, Marina wants him to not just say it; he needs to show it. If he doesn’t change, they are finished forever.

*Val and Chile continue to party with the girls. When they want to continue in their room, Val reminds them that they only hired them to entertain them there at the bar. The girls offer them more money to go with them to their room; so they settle on $650. As they go to the room, Flor calls Val but he doesn’t answer so she leaves him a message. The party continues in the girls’ hotel room. Val encourages them to drink more as he pretends to drink from the bottle. When he dances with one of the girls, he thinks of dancing with Flor. Val then goes to the restroom and listens to Flor’s message. When he hears her say that she is willing to relax so that something can possibly happen between them, he smiles wide.

*In the morning, Val takes Flor breakfast. She asks if he heard her message and wonders is he isn’t going to say anything about it. He tells her it made him very happy. Flor isn’t going to throw herself into a relationship because she is afraid. Val is afraid too because he had never felt love in his whole life. Before he leaves, he goes to her and they really want to kiss, but he kisses her on the forehead instead.

*Val is selling tacos and talking to Chile who tells Val that he needs to buy a new suit with the money he made. He then sprays Val with a cologne that one of the girls gave him. The girl used to be a man,,,she was the one who kissed him the most.

Doña Flor
Ep 4 Part 3: Never Felt Like This Before

*Xochil thinks that the three wise men came to their home during the night since there is so much food. Aureliano tells her that he bought everything plus has money to buy her a dress. After Aureliano assures Xocil that they are very happy and won’t be getting a divorce, Mariana takes Aurelio to a side and asks him why he puts her on the spot with their daughter. Aureliano insists he is going to change. Later Mariana calls Flor and tells her that she has her money back since Aurelio went gambling and won. Mariana confides that she is tired of Aureliano; she doesn’t know what to do or say to make him change. Flor understands if Mariana decides to leave Aureliano. Mariana then changes the subject and asks about Val, so Flor tells her that Val wants them to be closer in their relationship. She told him “no’ at first, but then she changed her mind and agreed to take things slowly. As Flor speaks, time passes. Flor has noticed that he wears the same suit and when he returns he smells like food. He is funny, but he doesn’t look like a businessman. He is perfect….she has tried to find fault with him, but she can’t find anything. Later she tells Mariana that he changed his suit and doesn’t smell like food as much…and he never gets tired (as Val lays in his bed exhausted).

*Val tells Flor that global warming is affecting his business. (Huh? Well it sounded good and Flor bought it!)

*Aureliano gives Mariana a plane ticket so she can go visit Flor. She thinks he’s kidding, but he’s not. He’s trying to change and is even looking into getting a job. Mariana doesn’t want to accept the money since he got the money gambling. When Aureliano insists and adds that he will take care of Xochil, Mariana agrees and thanks him with kisses.

*Flor tells Val that she is looking for a job since it isn’t fair to Val to be paying for everything. He tells her not to worry; he has a bit of savings. They kiss before he leaves to go work…and they kiss and kiss and kiss…

Good Morning, Steve and Patio! Have a blessed Good Friday!

Haven't seen this yet Rgv Chick, but still laughing over a comment the other day that someone was glad to see Valentin in a suit. Excuse me, but I'm happier seeing him OUT of a suit. Love that muscle tone, mama mia! Busy Friday and weekend so may not see this till much later, but thanks, as always, for your incredibly faithful recapping.

A blessed Good Friday to you Rgv Chick and to all of our patio friends.

This was marvelous. A beautifully composed short story in and of itself. "Flor finally gets quiet so Val can say what he wants to say, but when he looks at her and stokes her face softly..." conveyed the tenderness of that scene perfectly.

"As he walks outside, Val sees a soccer ball coming toward him; and triggers a memory of him and Chile playing at the orphanage". Loyalty to a childhood friend is endearing. Now adults, friends with seemingly little in common except the unbreakable bond forged in lonely childhood.

"Mariana confides that she is tired of Aureliano; she doesn’t know what to do or say to make him change". Ahh, one of life's hardest lessons is that we cannot change anyone as much as we want to. I think Aureliano is trying - whether or not he succeeds is up in the air.

I smiled at *Val tells Flor that global warming is affecting his business. (Huh? Well it sounded good and Flor bought it!)". Val is very convincing.

I thought the kissing at the end was very sweet and look forward to more romance. When Flor does find out Val has not been above board with his employment, there will be a rocky road to traverse, but something tells me the bridge will be gapped. For a time.

Splendid Rgv Chick. Thank you for providing all of these recaps - so important, especially at the beginning for those of us struggling to put the name and face to the character.

Diana

"...still laughing over a comment the other day that someone was glad to see Valentin in a suit. Excuse me, but I'm happier seeing him OUT of a suit. Love that muscle tone, mama mia!"

Simply great Judy! And ITA!!! :)

Diana

Thank you, RgvChick, for going above and beyond with your recaps here and in the afternoon.

Diana, JudyB. It was me. I always appreciate the “suit look” to the other and in this case I will happily leave Valentino to you two girls . . . without his suit. 😊

Happy Easter to all! My dilemma of the weekend: do I bake an Easter lamb cake or just let . . . it . . . go . . . ? I am so happy that is my only dilemma.

Are they slicing and dicing this? I have to catch up but if there is going to be substantial omissions I will be very peeved.

JudyB, you made me laugh with "I'm happier seeing him OUT of a suit. Love that muscle tone, mama mia!" but i do agree RAWWRR!

Diana, "Loyalty to a childhood friend is endearing. Now adults, friends with seemingly little in common except the unbreakable bond forged in lonely childhood." Beautifully stated; I did miss your eloquence in conveying your exceptional insight. Val and Chile have only each other; it did not surprise me that Val reached out to Chile. They may be con artists, but the loyalty they have for each other is admirable. They have only shown that Val gave away some of the money to the church and nuns. Now he is doing everything possible to help Flor recover. A very generous and kind heart indeed!

Jarifa, I am so glad you only have that decision as your only dilemma. I say "just let...it...go..." :-)

Urban, yes, the slicing and dicing has started very early for this TN. Since Monday, Univision has chopped 6 episodes into the 4 that we have seen in the USA. I'm afraid they are going to do to this show what they did to "La Bella y Las Bestias." The only difference is that with "La Bella y Las Bestias," we didn't know how badly Univision had sliced it until toward the end since it aired in the US first.

"in this case I will happily leave Valentino to you two girls . . . without his suit. 😊". So Jarifa, I thought this was Easter. Not Christmas. My bad :). thank you for your generosity! And your comment was a great one - thank you for sharing it was you...too good a line to be uncredited.

UA, the cutting was so bad on the first episode even I noticed it! So, there you go...

RgvChick, thank you for your kind words. The support here is truly wonderful. I have a sign on my desk that says "We Rise By Lifting Others". A creed you obviously live by.

Diana

What a treat! An RGV recap, an insightful slice of Diana's wisdom, all BEFORE I go watch last night's episode. Looking forward to the kisses and all the other scenes. I'm liking this so much better with the Caray commentary. Thank you both and for the rest of this little patio nestled in before PASL.

DF will now be aired at 1p/12c, effective Monday

Doña Flor
Ep 5, Part 1: Busted, Forgiven and Cheated

After Val and Flor finish kissing, Flor tells Val that she is ready to take the next step and tells him she is very in love with him. Val is ecstatic and wants to spend time more time with her, so he pretends to call the office to cancel his appointments. As they leave the apartment, Mariana calls to let Flor know that she is on her way to visit her, but Flor leaves her phone behind.

*Sitting at a park, Flor confides that she had boyfriends previously, but they all turned out to be louts and liars. She had even decided to give up on men. All she asks of Val is that he be honest and loyal. Flor notices that Val is very quiet which is not at all like him. When she asks if there is anything he needs to tell her about himself, Val replies that there is nothing to tell. When Val finally decides to go to work, Flor notices that he dropped his wallet. She calls out to him, but he doesn’t hear her and gets in a taxicab. Flor then gets a taxicab for herself and follows Val.

*Val gets to the taco stand and tells Chile that he feels horrible about lying to Flor. When Chile realizes that Val is truly in love with Flor, he advises Val not to tell her the truth. As Val shouts out to the people to come buy a taco, he turns and sees Flor standing by the taxicab. He feels completely BUSTED!! Val shakes her head in disappointment and gets in the taxi, but Val runs to her and convinces the driver to give him some time with Flor. He tells Flor about having 2 million dollars and losing it because of bad decisions. He is poor, but when he met her and then she had her accident, he decided to sell tacos…he did it all to help her. Flor is still very disappointed, but can’t really be angry at him since she doesn’t know who he really is. She then calls the driver and tells him to drive on.

*When Flor arrives at the boarding house, she is very surprised to see Mariana waiting for her, but she is very glad she is there because she needs to pour her heart out. After they go in and Flor tells her everything, Mariana gets a call from Aureliano. After he asks is she arrived without problems and tells her that he is on his way to work, Mariana asks what kind of job he got, but Aureliano doesn’t know because he hasn’t been told yet. After Mariana ends the call, she worries as she looks out the window and spots Val arriving. She goes down and chides him for hurting Flor. Val pleads with her to let him talk to Flor. When Mariana tells him that Flor doesn’t want to see or talk to him, Val asks he to please make sure Flor comes down to talk to her in one hour. Mariana tells him she will try. Meanwhile, Aureliano arrives at his new workplace (the Casino) and is greeted by Octavio, the owner.

*The hour passes and Mariana and Flor go downstairs to find that Val has set up his taco stand and some tables in the patio. He invites them to sit down and have some tacos. Val sits beside Flor and tells her this is his truth now. After pleading with her to give him a chance and to give themselves an opportunity to make a life together, he swears that he will never lie to her again. Flor caves to his smile and sexy eyes and agrees to give him another chance.

Doña Flor
Ep 5, Part 2: Busted, Forgiven and Cheated

*Aureliano is dressed as a chauffeur. Octavio is standing with a “professional escort” as he tells Aureliano that he is to take her to the address he was given. If she takes too long to come out or if she comes out beaten up, Aureliano is to call him immediately. Octavio then gives Aureliano a weapon.

*Flor is with the therapist. She has graduated from crutches to a cane so the therapist instructs her on how to use the cane. Val watches as Flor asks about dancing. The therapist replies that she can dance occasionally at special events, but nothing more than that; professional dancing is completely out of the question. Chile comes to Val and calls him away. As Val approaches Chile, Chile is playing with a stethoscope pretending to be a pilot. Chile then tells Val that Cassy’s sentencing is coming up. Val is glad because she needs to pay for Valderrabano’s death. As he says that, Valderrabano leaves his grave and is glad that Val finally remembered him.

*Flor and Val by a lotto ticket using the numbers of her birthday.

*Aureliano is nervously looking at his watch as he waits for the escort. He gets the weapon from the glove compartment, but when he gets out and sees two goons, he leaves the weapon under the seat. As he walks toward the goons, the escort comes out. She is fine; so Aureliano quickly guides her in the vehicle and drives off.

*Rosalia goes to CKlass to be trained in selling. (Hmmm…Is Julieta or Susana going to interview her?)

*Malba tells Cassy that her father can’t make it to the trial. Standing by herself, Cassy listens as the judge declares her guilty of murder and sentences her to 30 years. Malba promises her that they will ask for an appeal. Valderrabano watches as Cassy is taken to her cell and is looking forward to seeing her suffer.

*Chile tells Val about Cassy’s sentence. Val is happy that Cassy is paying for what she did and she won’t be after him anymore. Val then thinks of Flor; he doesn’t think he deserves a woman like Flor simce he has done so many bad things throughout his life.

*Rosalia arrives to find Teo at her house with a bouquet of flowers. Margarita has invited him to dinner. Teo wrings his hands as he looks around and sees a pic of Flor. He stares at it as he recalls giving her a friendship bracelet when they were younger.

*Flor comes out of her bath and sees a couple dancing on TV. After she starts to swivel her hips to the music, she calls Val in and they dance. Val tells her she drives him crazy. They continue to dance as they kiss. On the TV, picking of the winning lotto numbers comes on. Valderrabano is there and slips out of the TV to see the numbers on Val’s lotto ticket.

*At Maragarita’s house, Teo is having dinner but Marg notes that he (is very quiet. Rosalia tells Marg not to pressure him to talk as she caresses his leg with her foot). Marg tries to make small talk but Teo laughs nervously because Rosalia’s hand is on his leg. Margarita then comments on the amount of time Teo spends at the office; so Rosalia mentions how Teo will have to stay home more once he gets married. As her hand goes higher up his leg, Teo quickly stands spilling his food and drink.

* Valderrabano goes back into the TV; and as Val and Flor fall to the bed and get it on, their lotto numbers are called out…but Valderrabano stops the last number so they miss winning by one number!

Alexander, seriously?? So are they going to air it twice per day or are they just going to air it at 1p/12c?

OMG! I just looked at the TV Guide and they are replacing DF with "La Rosa de Guadalupe" at 9:00(E)!! WHYYYY?????

Low ratings n PASL2 isn't doing well either

Dona Flor

I haven't been able to watch Dona Flor but was planning to check it out next week. Guys, sorry about the time change but at least Uni is keeping it on the air. Now that they're moving it, maybe they will stop cutting it?

I saw last night's Dona Flor and was enchanted.

And then, my happiness faded to black.

The time change to 1:00 in the afternoon means I will no longer be able to watch. I can only surmise the 5 episodes aired in prime time were a teaser to garner interest and that their plan was to air this in daytime all along. As for the slicing and dicing? Unfathomable no matter when it is airing.

Univision has pulled many time change "stunts" over the past dozen years. Moving Corazon Salvaje '09 from 9:00 to midnight was startling. Still the wonderful recappers (Jeri, Aribeth and Vivi) selflessly continued to recap and the patio continued to watch despite being sleep deprived. When Un gancho al corazón was moved from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. AFTER 140 episodes, I could no longer watch but at least knew the characters and was still able to keep up - again due to the wonderful recapping team.

So now there are 3 TNs airing during the day. It is obvious that those of us working or unable to watch during the day are in a demographic of no importance.

Over the last few years, the patio has lost many members. But those who remain are stalwart and loyal. Our recapping team has been greatly reduced and stretched thin although continuing to generously perform double and triple duty. To all of you, you have my utmost appreciation and gratitude.

Caray, Caray is very important to me. It's so disheartening not being able to do anything. I have no choice but to swallow my disappointment and wait for the 8:00 Michele Renaud show. I am hoping that others will watch and that we will be able to discuss and enjoy together as best we can.

Diana

Thanks for the recap Rgv Chick. I haven't seen this yet but amazed that the station would put Rosa de Guadelupe on at 9pm instead. I find that show absolutely unwatchable. Someone must like it though, it seems to be on all the time now. Normally you give a show a little time to "build", but they've decided to deep six it quickly.

Diana...just saw your post. So sorry. Univision has really pulled the rug out from under people who work outside the home and don't have a DVR. Not fair at all.

Rgv Chick, please forgive me!

I was so upset by the time change I posted my comment not even seeing that you had posted a recap. And what a marvelous one it was.

“Busted, Forgiven and Cheated” could not have been more fitting. Excellent.

In spite of my ire, you have made me smile – no small accomplishment this morning!
“Val sits beside Flor and tells her this is his truth” captured the situation to perfection. Also loved *Rosalia goes to CKlass to be trained in selling. (Hmmm…Is Julieta or Susana going to interview her?)” HA!

“Flor confides that she had boyfriends previously, but they all turned out to be louts and liars” proves Flor has experienced disappointment yet survived. Beautifully.

Was “professional dancing is completely out of the question” a statement or a challenge? I sense it is the latter.

I enjoyed Teo’s laughing discomfort at the dinner. I really felt as though the actor was genuinely laughing. He is adorable. Rosalia is smitten. He is not. She seems nice and I suspect it is no spoiler that she will get hurt.

Valderrabano seems bent on revenge toward Val. I hope he has the good sense to “spirit” himself away during Val and Flor’s upcoming intimate moments!

Of course the highlight for me was Chile. I enjoyed him playing “doctor”. Can anyone tell me what his neck tattoo is??

A superb read start to finish Rgv Chick. You’ve recapped every episode this week. You are a gem!

Thank you.

Judy, appreciate your support and understanding.

Diana

Well, I figured it had to do with ratings, but, seriously, what did they expect when that first episode was so hard to keep up with after all the chopping they did....and they did it again on Wednesday night. I'm sure Univision knew it wasn't doing well in Mexico if they did all that chopping from the getgo; so why get viewers used to seeing something when they know full well that they are going to cause so much turmoil with their unexpected changes. UGHHH!

Diana, you and several others have been here so much more longer than I have and have seen the drastic drop in participation. This is a reflection of poor programming and pulling of rugs from under the viewers. I was looking at the TV schedule and Unimas has resorted to showing (translated) American movies during primetime. That is very disheartening to novela lovers; we don't even have much of a choice. Are we seeing the complete demise of novelas?

Niecie, I hope you're right about the cutting; it's going to be a wait n see.

Diana, no worries about not having noticed the recap. I am quite upset about the time change too; so I understand the distraction.

I laughed when I saw "CKlass" and the first thing that came to mind was Julieta. It would have been a hoot if she had walked by.

I've been trying to figure out what Chile's tattoo is but they haven't given us a good shot of it. I'm keeping an eye out for it.

JudyB, while I have the utmost respect and admiration for the Virgen de Guadalupe, I do not care for "La Rosa de Guadalupe" either. I'm wondering if Univision will change the time for "La Reina Soy Yo" to 9pm. Another "wait n see."

Oh my goodness! This time change thing makes me very happy I didn't watch Doña Flor after the first episode and haven't gotten emotionally invested in it! I'm leaning towards Amar sin ley at the moment, though in some ways it seems to be just a more serious kind of Betty en NY--office politics all over the place, that is. :)

"That is very disheartening to novela lovers; we don't even have much of a choice. Are we seeing the complete demise of novelas?"

Rgv Chick, you've cut to the heart of the matter with precision, and asked the million dollar question.

There were years where TNs were on at 7, 8, 9 and 10. Plenty of options (comedies, drama and a mixture of both), most enthusiastically received. Then, there were 3...And now, I feel nothing adequately prepared us for this freefall.

I hope the answer is that there is still some value in faithful viewers and that this is but an unexpected and most unwelcome "bump" in the road. Time will tell...

And I think you made a good point that the time for La Reina might change. Either way, I'm in...

Diana

La Reina Soy Yo will now premiere Monday May 13, at 8p/7c

Bummer about "Doña Flor." There is also "Un poquito tuyo"(self described romantic comedy/with Marjorie Souza and Jorge Salinas) coming mid May13 to Telemundo 8:00 C.

SpanProf, while I’ve seen much better TNs than Dona Flor, I have found it to be quite entertaining. Valentin’s smile and personality are like a magnet for me (along with his taut body :-). His sidekick, Chile, makes me laugh and I admire the relationship between the two. There hasn’t been much focus on Teo, but I did enjoy Sergio Mur on Papa a Toda Madre, so I’m looking forward to see his character evolve. I do, however, understand and respect your opinion. Since you’re “leaning” toward Amar Sin Ley, hope you “fall” for it eventually :-)

Diana, I’m also hoping that this is but a bump in the road. Be it as it may, the Patio always makes it a fun ride and we’re certainly not going to let it bring us down.

Alexander, thank you so much for the update. I’ve updated the “Coming Soon” page already.

I’m sure tomorrow will be a busy day for everyone. My sincere wishes for.a blessed Easter Sunday to all. May your day be filled with joy, much peace and the love of family and friends.

Thanks to all who are trying to support Dona Flor. It's movibg? They didn't give it much of a chance, did they? Busy with family right now, but I will be around the patio again after the holidays. Happy Easter.

If I'd watched past the first episode, I might have invested emotionally, and then I would be feeling really bad now. Btw, did anyone notice that the nasty mother is played by the wonderful protagonist of Para volver a amar?

Susanlynn, yes, Dona Flor will be airing at 1pm (E) from now on.

SpanProf, I didn't watch "Para Volver a Amar", but I do know that Rebecca Jones starred in it; though I did recognize her from "Que Te Perdone Dios."
