I will put up a recap tonight, length depending on my energy level.

Belated comment about Wednesday's episode.

Thanks, Juanita, that was way more than bare bones! I also loved Telenovela Airlines. And everyone arrives looking fresh, with their clothes not even wrinkled!

What was going on at the bullring is that Cayetana was asking why Paloma, the sort of soft looking (maybe older) grandchild is suddenly interested in bullfighting. The snarky, a bit goth looking younger girl, Rocío, makes a comment to the effect that it's the handsome young torero in training. [I might have these girls' names backwards, not sure.] Snobby, rich Cayetana apparently thinks bullfighters are waaay too low class for an Aljarafe.

That was some fight scene. I hardly recognized Paola Nunez from Reina de Corazones with the short hair. I have my fingers crossed that somehow they'll be allies down the road, instead of enemies. But, for now, it sure looks like she was just playing Jonathan to get information. Neither Jonathan nor Willy really said anything about who obviously had to have put the tracker on him.

Looking forward to tonight.

Thanks so much, novelera, for your helpful and interesting comments. I have great hopes for Cayetana's goth granddaughter. (Also, I recall a woman who came up to Cayetana earlier--I thought she was some kind of gypsy, but, in retrospect, she had some features in common with the goth granddaughter. I have the impression that woman was older than the granddaughters, but I could be wrong.)

I might mention, too, that like deb, I noticed that the gun Teresa had looked quite a bit like Pote's. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Teresa had recovered it after Pote was killed at the end of Reina1. Now, of course, Manuela has it. I wonder whether that will be significant.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode. "Looking forward" may not be quite the right words, however, since I imagine that Teresa will meet Oleg in Spain as she promised over the phone, and I suspect I'll be disappointed in whoever plays Oleg. Hmmm...perhaps if my expectations are low enough, I'll be pleasantly surprised. :-)

Also, I'm interested in the videos that Teresa and Sofia will make. Teresa has prepared Sofia for so many contingencies. I'm wondering whether they've arranged a method of communicating without speaking. Perhaps Morse code using the eyes? I remember that during the Vietnam War, one or more American POWs used that method when they were forced to make propaganda videos by their captors.

And thanks VERY much for offering to do a recap of tonight's episode!

La reina Sur 2

novelera, yes, the fight scene was very good. I have to say I have been happy with the action sequences in the first season and in this one so far. Novelas have come a far way in this regard.

Juanita, very interesting idea about Sofía maybe having a covert way of communicating.

I am looking forward to another good one tonight and like you Juanita, to an “acceptable” Oleg.

reina-sur2

I have a vague memory of something about gypsies and rosemary sprigs. Apparently, it's a thing. The woman Wednesday looked pretty pleasant and seemed to know or know something about Cayetana. Cayetana even cursed at her, calling her a gitana de mierda. Interesting theory about Rocío resembling her.

The rosemary thing is about scamming tourists. If you take the rosemary sprig, they grab your hand and begin to read your palm. This can be either so an accomplice can grab your purse/tablet/cell phone or to insist on a fee for the palm reading.

When I was in Spain for 3 weeks in 2013 and in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Córdoba, and Granada (and always alone), not one negative thing happened to me for 3 weeks. I had a fabulous time, getting around by bullet train and regular train. Maybe the crime is worse now.

novelera, thanks for the info. It sounds like it was a delightful trip. Nothing like traveling alone. I am a fan.

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 – VIERNES, Parte 1 de 2

So far, so good! It’s been very good. I’m skipping the scenes from the last episode.

We see open ocean, hear the sound of water. Then an official launch is approaching something bobbing in the water. They pull out a body. We’ve gone back 9 years. Our old friend (not…I hated the guy) Flores has brought Cayetana Aljarafe to see the corpse of her son, Teo. He’s been in the water 5 weeks and it’s not pretty.

Then we see Cayetana visiting Flores and telling him SHE knows where Teresa Mendoza is.

Jonathan and Willy are leaving D.F. Jonathan calls Manuela. He leaves a very suggestive message on her voice mail, saying he’ll see her when he arrives. Jonathan hangs up and asks Willy why she betrayed them? Willy: "Us? What us? She betrayed YOU!"

In Mexico Sofía is refusing to eat until she can speak to her mother. Lupo tries to force feed her, but she spits it on him. When he tries to scare her, she tells him she knows he’s just another employee of the big boss and doesn’t dare hurt her.

Alejandro is trying to prepare Epifanio for a TV interview. He’s not read the talking points. He tells Ale that he knows how to get the best of that woman; he’ll speak directly to the camera – to “his people”.

We see Teresa on the plane from Mexico to Spain. We also see that some guy with a baseball cap is watching her.

Lupo goes to see Sofía once more. When he tells her he has a video from her mother, she promises to eat. We see Teresa filming the video in the toilet on the plane. She reminds Sofía to remember what she’s taught her: como gata panza arriba [like a cat with its belly exposed]. Her voice breaking, she tells her daughter that, if they say bad things about her, to ignore them. Teresa moves her face away and sobs. She gets herself under control and tells Sofía all this will be over, and they’ll be together forever. She also promises to take Sofía to Carneval in Venice. [That’s one of my dreams as well!]

Lupo tells Sofía to dry her tears to do a video for her mother, which we then see Teresa watch on the plane. [I think Sofía and Teresa are starting to soften up Lupo. He looks very moved by these videos.]

We see a great scene with Epifanio Vargas on the interview show Cara a Cara. Alejandro said before that it’s one of the most watched in Mexico. The interviewer is Marietta Lancaster. She reminds Epi that she tried to get him on the show when he was a Senator in Sinaloa. She goes right after him, saying the drug traffic got a lot worse when he was a Senator.

Epi responds that it was the former President who hit the avispero y salieron todos los avispas que empezaron a picarle todo el mundo. El estado de Sinaloa fue uno de los mas hinchados por las picaduras. [hit the wasps' nest so that all the wasps escaped and began to sting everyone. The State of Sinaloa was one of the states most swollen up by those wasp stings.]

He keeps calling her mijita, not very professional. Marietta tells him there are records showing his involvement in the Sinaloa Cartel. He says that he was exonerated. [So that’s how he can run for President; seems like he got a pardon of some kind.] She replies that he got his freedom because of bribes.

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 – VIERNES, Parte 2 de 2

She then mentions Teresa Mendoza; he hastens to say that woman is a criminal. She goes on to say that ONE of his properties is valued at more than $300 million pesos and also asks him about owning an airline. First he says he got those things from his hard work; and, then, he finally storms off.

Marietta: Looking into the camera, says ironically: “El Señor Epifanio Vargas, candidato por Presidente de la Republica Mexicana”.

We see Teresa arrive in Madrid and buy a ticket for Malaga. She gives the guy from the plane the slip after she notices him.

In D.C. Manuela has come to Jonathan’s apartment. She starts putting the moves on him. He says: “You deceived me! You went to Mexico.” Willy comes from the other room and tells her she’s fired. He did it here because he didn’t want to humiliate her in front of the other agents.

Teresa is in a cab in Marbella, chatting with a handsome taxi driver named Jesús. She tells him she used to live here and also mentions that some people called her Sudaca. He says that not everyone is a poorly educated racist. He mentions a famous Mexican they called La Reina del Sur. Teresa says she’s never heard of her.

Manuela keeps protesting that she doesn’t know what they mean. Willy gets right in her face and mentions the marks on her neck. “I don’t really know why Teresa had compassion for you!” Manuela drops the mask. We then see that she found out about Teresa’s call to Willy by reviewing Jonathan’s phone when he was in the shower. When Manuela gets a call and moves away, Jonathan puts a tracker on her purse.

Teresa gets a call from Lupo/Francesco, still pretending to be her friend. He gets her to stay on long enough to track the call.

Teresa asks Jesús to take her to Jadranka, the disco owned by Oleg Yasikov.

Sofía remembers a lesson her mother taught, that even oranges can be useful. She asks Morgana to bring her some.

After getting out of the taxi in front of the disco, Teresa tells Jesús something about knowing how to smell a rat. She asks him to wait, leaving her bag in the taxi.

Inside the bar, the Russian guy who ratted her out to Siso Pernas is a total jerk. She sees some guards with guns.

Willy gets a call from Flores, snotty as he ever was, telling Willy the DEA let her get away with murder. He tells Willy that he knows where Teresa is and is finally going to arrest her. [He only knows because Cayetana told him.]

Jesús might be handsome, but he’s not such a nice guy. He roots through Teresa’s bag, finds a lot of money, and then listens to Willy’s voice mail warning Teresa about the Spanish police. He speeds off with her money, phone, and passport.

Inside the club, the nasty Russian says that Oleg isn’t there, but someone else wants to see her. And we see Siso Pernas walk into the room. Uh oh!

reina-sur2

Wow, novelera. Thanks very much for this excellent recap. I confess that I'm puzzled by a couple of things in the episode. Why in the world did Teresa leave her pocketbook, with her money, passports, and phone in the taxi?? She's usually so savvy....

Also, ever since her first call to Oleg, I've been uneasy. In the past, she was always able to speak directly to him. Yes, nine years have passed, but didn't she find it strange that she could no longer do so? And that the person she spoke with on the phone was so cold to her? None of Oleg's people would have acted that way in the past. Nor would Oleg have insisted that she come to Spain to see him without his at least first talking to her. And then we saw that the guy she spoke to was perhaps tied to Siso. And tonight's episode bore that out. So what's up with Oleg?

I agree with you about Lupo's seeming to soften a bit. He's still far from switching sides, but perhaps there's hope.

It looks like I was wrong about Teresa and Sofia using the videos to exchange secret messages. At first, I thought I saw Teresa blinking more than usual, but I suspect now that that was just blinking back tears. And I didn't notice any strange blinking on Sofia's part. Darn.

It will be interesting to see how Teresa manages to get out of what seems like an impossible situation with Siso et al. Apparently we aren't going to have to wait until Monday. Telemundo is running TWO HOURS of episodes tomorrow!

Thank you, novelera. Yes, that was some “wasp nest” metaphor. 😊

Juanita, ITA about two things you mentioned. Teresa leaving her bag in the cab (?? that was just stupid and Teresa was never stupid in season 1) and her inability to talk to Oleg directly ( she calls Oleg and ends up with Siso Pernas?) As for Sofía, I wouldn’t count out the secret messaging yet.

I am enjoying the fast pacing.

Reina 2

wow, novelera, an interesting recap, struck to the heart of the story. Thank you so much!

and how could Teresa just saunter into such a deadly situation while losing all she had with the cabby?

but wait, Epifanio's guy loses Teresa and calls him, who goes to Lupo, who gets and relays her location, and why was she being followed, to protect her because if she dies Epifanio is screwed.

and an interesting chat Teresa had with Jesus, the cabby,, his cousin ?? Manola ?? worked for Reina del Sur, delivering hash, later killed by the Arabs, Jesus scrammed when Willy mentioned the cops were on the way, but wait, Willy called her Teresa, does he make the connection?

say, was that the old office building they stopped by, and did Willy mention she still had some businesses in Spain.

interesting that Sofia's prison has a root cellar, maybe there is a tunnel down there, I so wanted Sofia to spill on Francesco.

Juanita- I think tonight's "Reina del Sur" the movie, is listed as "Resumen de los episodios 1, 2, 3 y 4."

reina-sur2

deb, thanks so much for your VERY interesting message! You're right, I had forgotten about Epifanio's concern with keeping Teresa alive and well (for the moment). I guess that's likely to be how she gets out of Siso's trap alive. I'm still scratching my head, however, at Teresa's leaving the pocketbook in the taxi. It's hard to imagine that it was deliberate. Then again, the writers may surprise me. ¡Ojalá!

When I heard Jesus tell Teresa about a relative named Manolo, I wondered at first whether that was the actual name of Santiago's sidekick who got captured and tortured by the Arab police. His name was Lalo, but I wondered whether that was short for Manolo. But I looked at the list of characters from season 1, and he was listed as Lalo. There WAS a Manolo, Manolo Céspedes, who I think was that fat pig who insisted that Teresa dress, dance, and have sex with him. I doubt he's the Manolo Jesus was referring to, but one never knows.

MANY MANY thanks for the information about tonight's 2-hour Reina. I didn't see any description, but I'm delighted to know that it may just be a repeat/rehash of episodes 1-4, for those who missed them. Where did you find the description? I'm so impressed with how you are always aware of the most interesting and current sources.

Reina 2

Juanita- reina movie info?, ah it was one of those rare moments when you expand the listing in Zap2it and there was something there worth reading.

reina-sur2

Thanks deb. I've now used the feature to get information about a similar listing for next Saturday, when the 9-11 pm slot will include an abridged version of episodes 5-9. I've included this information in the Telemundo y Más pages for the coming week.

Reina sur 2

Thanks, deb, for the info. This is really smart on Telemundo’s part because not everyone has five nights a week to watch a novela. There is also a lot of episode info on the Telemundo site; very user friendly. If all high profile potentially high earning shows were treated this well by the networks, they might be able to accumulate even more viewers and $$.

Novelera and Juanita, thanks a bunch for last week's recap.

Although I was afraid it would be impossible to be as good as the orig, I'm enjoying 2 a lot. Glad I'm not the only one who liked Batman for some reason. Still hoping he and Teresa become allies. Great casting of Teresa's daughter.

Here's hoping the cabbie returns.
