On another note, I'm assuming you've heard about Pablo Lyle being in big trouble with law enforcement in Miami, FL ?
Heads up everyone--I will be doing the Mirada bunnycap today, so RGV can pay attention to Flor, her roses and her herd of goats, et al. It will be late. Sorry.
Epi #31 Pt 1 of 4 – The Doors to the Big House Swing Open
*Pru tells Vane the invitation extended to Marina and Damiana was not for Vane’s benefit, but for her own. She wants to get to know Mari better (and what she has that cast this spell over Beto). She suggests that Vane hightail it to Mexico City for a few days. Vane gives Pru a song and dance about wanting to find out for herself if she really loves Beto and deserves him. Pru says ok and hopes Sudoodoo will behave decently.
*Vane can’t wait to runtelldat to her mother, obviously disturbed that Mari accepted the offer. Sudoodoo, on the other hand is overjoyed at the prospect of destroying La Ciega, right under Pru's nose. Vane wants to know how she’s going to do that. Susu assures her that all it will take on Vane’s part is to be artificially nice and give up her room to the two women. Vane puts her foot down, for all the good it will do. [It’s obvio Vane doesn’t want to go along with Mommy Dearest’s plans, but what choice does she have.] Susu has one club to hold over Vane. She knows all about Vane pining after that Gato (Lino) and she’s already warned him to stay away from her.
*Mari tells Baldo and Tori about the proposed “visit.” Baldo announces it’s only until Beto returns, then the women go off to the city with Beto. Mari will ask Pru if Tori and Baldo can come visit while at the big house. She assures Tori that when they go to the city—they’ll see. Baldo intends to go wherever Dami goes. He no longer wants to be separated from her.
*Pru tells Angsty about the visit and wonders if she should tell Beto. Angsty thinks it’ll only upset him, knowing that Vane and her mother are still here. Pru shares that Vane is going to talk to her mother about behaving herself. Angsty thinks Pru should talk to her.
*Mari is packing. Beto calls her at Baldo’s from a pay phone. He tells her he has to take an entrance exam to work. She asks about the exam for his specialty. He says not to worry about that. She urges him to stay where he is and study. She tells him about Pru being sorry for what she said and did and asked her and Dami to spend a few days at the Big House. He warns her that Vane hasn’t accepted his breakup with her. Beto says something smells funny, but Mari says to trust her and to trust his mother.
*Susu (of the forked tongue) and Pru talk about the upcoming visit. Susu assures her she wants to get along with Mari for her daughter’s sake. Pru asks her not to say anything to Don Luis, if she talks to him (and how much do you want to bet she does), because he would hit the roof.
*Pru now tells Margarito about the upcoming visit. He’s pleased. He’s sure she won’t regret it. She tells him that Don Luis doesn’t know about it. Margaro is a little worried because he can’t keep anything from DL since he’s lost DL’s confidence. Pru tells him that if he has problems with DL, she’ll take the responsibility and make sure they are not run off their property. (Somehow I don’t think Margaro is much relieved.)
*Beto is with Eric in the city. Eric has just overheard part of the conversation Beto was having with Marina. Eric wonders why Marina would need a bodyguard. Beto explains that Vane is someone to be reckoned with. He’s worried that Vane will do something to hurt her. Eric pooh-poohs the idea, after all, isn’t Beto’s mother on their side? What could happen? (Just you wait, Eric, just you wait.)
[Time out for some El Tal-isms:
A plaga on both their houses -- well maybe just on one house -- El Alcatraz!
Did you mean... Stuffed with gym socks to make his raisins resemble avocados?
Holy Guacamole – blessed by the Padre, comes in flash frozen packs. Defrost, grab some Tostitos from Maria’s kitchen or Ulises stop ‘n shop on LQNPA, dip and enjoy.
Just in—Por Fin™ anti-plaga spray, guaranteed to cure all those afflicted (Expires, oh, shoot, it expired 6-15-12).]
*Margaro reaches Lino in the fields. Lino is worried about some incipient plague on the avocado trees. Lino is told to report to the Big House anyway to move some furniture. Lino and Erasmo show up in Vane’s room as Vane watches them disassemble her room. Lino throws a few barbs at Vane needing to sleep on 600 thread-count Supima Egyptian cotton sheet sets while the two lock eyes. Erasmo makes himself scarce. Lino guesses she’s put out that she has to give up her room to make way for Beto’s novia. What irony, he continues, she couldn’t marry the rich boy because he’s marrying a poor girl. He advises that when things don’t go the way one plans it, there has to be a Plan B. So, if Vane wants a rich guy who can give her all her wants and desires, she needs to look somewhere else, because here they are fresh out of rich boys.
*Vane comes and sits down on the bed next to Lino. She gets up close (and presumably bats her eyes at him) and says she wants to learn more about horseback riding. Unmoved by her closeness, he jumps up and starts tearing the bedding off the bed, saying he’s still on the mend from what the horse did—surely she remembers that—and still wounded by other things as well. He wants to forget what damaged him and move on. He throws the mattress her way and says he has to get back to work. (Man, I love me some Lino.)
*Angsty tells Pru that everything is ready for their visitors. She tells her about Susu putting flowers in a big old flower vase in Mari’s room. Pru thinks this is a good sign. The victims, er, guests arrive. Susu wafts down the stairs and is over-effusive in her welcome. The look on Dami’s face is priceless. Of course she doesn’t believe a word coming out of that woman. Susu over-acts as well. She immediately takes charge and tries to steer Mari, as a sighted person who knows nothing about how blind people move. Mari disengages herself and puts her hand on Susu’s shoulders.
*Eric talks up Beto to his dad. Daddy Doc tells him Beto has to get in line with all the rest in order to get a hospital job. We find out Eric doesn’t want to be a doctor and his dad knows it. Daddy Doc says they’ve talked about this already. Eric comes from a long line of doctors and he’s not going to be the one to break with tradition. (Remind me not to look him up if he does become a doctor.)
*When Yola learns from Lino that Mari is at the Big House for a sleep-over, she has to see it for herself and heads for the house. Lino follows.
*Baldo and Tori settle Dami into a bed with everyone watching. They all leave, one by one, until only Susu remains. What? All their clothes fit into one little suitcase? Whatever will they wear to dress up for dinner. She looks repulsed. Dami looks repulsed by Susu.
*Toribio and Baldo have a talk at the top of a mountain. We learn that after Tori's head and that bullet met, Don Louse’s father, Big Don, was the one who paid all the expenses until he got well. Tori worked on the rancho until old Big Don went to the rancho in the sky, then Don Louse didn’t want him around any longer.
*Beto has phoned the house. He scolds Pru for not telling him about The Visitors. He wants to talk to Marina. He tells her he loves her. She tells him not to worry.
*Doc Mask has been searching for Mari and Dami in another town. Since it’s TOOTIM (this time it’s The Only Other Town In Mexico), of course Zackrat is hanging out there watching him accost strangers. When Isa states his business, Zack says he’s been there for a few days and hasn’t seen them at all. When Isa gets home he’s in a fury. Ramona begs him to wait till the next day and runs off to get him something to eat. While out of the room, he departs for, yep, we know, Baldo’s place. Baldo and Tori are calmly eating dinner when there is a shout and banging at the door. Baldo doesn’t want to answer, but when the banging keeps up, he grabs a shovel and Tori grabs a broom. There is a confrontation between a One-Eyed Masked Man with two hands and Two Guys with a broom, a shovel and four hands. Surprisingly, the One-Eyed Masked Man overcomes his adversaries and lets himself into Baldo’s house, where, of course, there is no Marina or Damiana. He menaces them, telling them that sooner or later he will find out where they are.
*Yola and Lino come to greet Mari. Angsty greets them. Yola heads for the kitchen. Mari is left alone. She starts to unpack. The first thing she pulls out is a mini-St. Lucia statue. She’s planning to place her next to the vase of flowers Susu has put in the room. Susu has appeared at the door and “helps” Mari find the right place. Of course, she guides her right to where Mari manages to knock over the flower vase. (Did anyone notice that there was not a drop of water spilled?) Mari is horrified by what she’s done. Susu smirks and makes a big deal out of the disaster and says Don Louse is going to be furious because the vase belonged to his great-grandmother. Pru comes running to see what happened. To Susu’s dismay, Pru doesn’t get angry with Mari. It was an accident after all. Susu tries again to make it a big deal. Angsty arrives on the scene and volunteers to take the blame. This p.o.’s Susu even more. Angsty returns to Damiana, left in the indoor patio, and suggests that Susu did it on purpose. Damiana sees how the visit is going to progress, or regress and tells Angsty she’s going to tell Pru the truth. Angsty begs her not to. Give it some more time.
*With her first plan backfiring, Susu watches as Pru comforts Marina and absolutely refuses to take any money in restitution. Horti is left to pick up the pieces, while Pru offers to show Mari the rest of the house. Mari asks that they move all the valuable breakables out of the way. They happily take off, Susu follows sneakily behind, watching.
*Susu is unhappy that Mari is taking the high road. She frustrated with Vane for sitting there and letting La Ciega take Vane’s place in Pru’s heart. Vane could care less (she’s trying to concentrate on her social media circles on the phone). Susu shakes her and shoves her out the door to make nice with her rival.
*Mari is learning her way around with Pru when Vane appears with a cheery greeting. Pru tells Horti to start putting away all the breakables. Vane volunteers to stay with Mari. They stare at each other and then exchange some words. Mari tells her that despite Vane’s plans with Beto, if he had truly loved her, he wouldn’t have looked at Mari twice. With that she walks away.
*Well that didn’t go as planned either. Susu tells Vane to loan Mari a dress for dinner. That ought to get her in good with Mari. Vane is QTHeck?
*Mari is braiding Dami’s hair. Dami begs off for dinner. Vane knocks and offers Mari her choice of dresses. They are still in garment bags so nobody can really see them. But she makes it sound as though she forgot Mari is blind and is required to describe them. Mari chooses and Vane leaves. Dami wants to see the dress. She thinks it’s too elegant. Marina gets ready. She doesn’t really like the dress. It itches. She arrives at the dinner table. Susu tells her she’s overdressed, like she lost her cocktail at a party. Pru, again unknowingly, smacks Susu’s plans down. She tells Mari she looks beautiful and she can wear anything she likes. Susu keeps trying to needle Mari, excusing her for not knowing any better and telling her about needing to know how to dress properly for Beto and his friends. Mari answers that clothes don’t make the person. Susu replies that the way people are treated, depends on what they wear. That’s not a problem, answers Mari, since she’s blind, she treats everyone equally. With no comeback, Susu throws back a tequila, or something liquid.
*Dinner must have gone well. Pru comes to visit Dami in her bedroom. It’s taken her a while to accept she’s Marina’s mother. She wants to tell her the truth about who was behind throwing them out of their house. She swears she meant her and Mari no harm. If she had known what was going to happen, she would have put a stop to it. Marina over hears them. Angsty assures Dami that it wasn’t Pru’s idea. Susu listens at the closed door. (Is she hoping Marina and Damiana stay or leave? It’s hard to tell from the look on her face.) Dami now speaks up. It was Zackrat. He tried to kiss her. She tried to fight him off and he threw her down where she hit her head. Mari jumps up in anger. They can’t stay in this house a minute longer. Dami interrupts. She wants them to stay. Pru and Angsty also want them to stay. Pru says it’s an opportunity to keep Marina close.
[Fade to no answer from Marina today.}
Ep 13, Part 1: Flor Mourns Her Loss
*Teo goes out to the waiting area where Chile and Aure await; he tells them that they did all they could, but Val died. Chile is distraught and Aure wonders who is going to tell Flor.
*Out in the town, Cassy is glad that Val is paying for every lie and everything else he did to her. Malba somewhat feels sorry for him, but Cassy has no remorse since she spent a year in jail and lost all that money. Cassy thinks that the best thing is that no one will know that THEY did it. Malba tries to play innocent, but Cassy insists that they were both in it together; and she isn’t going to let her off the hook. Cassy then tells Malba to find out who the woman who was crying over Val is; she wants to know if Val left her for that woman. As Cassy goes her way and Malba goes the other way, a mysterious man in an expensive suit calls Don Bendito (Cassy’s father???)
*Teo goes to Flor’s house and gives her the bad news. Flor is devastated and repeatedly says that it’s not true. She falls to floor, curls up and sobs as Mariana and Marga watch over her (Tissue alert!). Meanwhile, Chile cries as he sees Val’s body covered with a sheet and asks him to open his eyes; he hopes this is one of Val’s jokes. Chie wonders how Val could to this to him. He doesn’t know whom he will confide in now and asks what will be of him. Chile then thanks Val for adopting him as a younger brother and protecting him from those who would bully him at the orphanage. He then recalls their first heist when he wanted a video player. Chile continues to cry as he asks Val to forgive him for his recent attitude and admits that he was very jealous of Flor since Val was spending so much time with her, but deep down he was truly glad that Val was happy…he just never told him. Chile will love him for the rest of his life. When Chile asks God why he had to take Val and wishes that he had been taken instead, ValdeGhost whispers, “OK, if that is what you want.” Chile freaks out, takes out his garlic necklace, and, as he leaves, tells God to go ahead and take Val.
*At Casa Rosa, Flor asks Teo where Val is. Teo replies that he is at the hospital, but the lega procedures are long. Flor wants to be with Val; so Teo agrees that she can go, but reminds her that she needs to also think of the baby who, in some way, is also feeling all her pain and suffering. Flor insists that she needs to be with Val. As Flor goes to the adjacent room, she sees Marga who hugs her tight (finally! A good maternal instinct kicks in!)
*Xotchitl goes to Rose and asks her about her Uncle Val since she saw them carrying him away. Rose explains that Val’s body “turned of” and his soul is now on a journey. Rose continues to tell Xotchitl that they say that a Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican hairless breed of dog) will guide Val…she doesn’t know where, but she thinks he will go with Xochil’s grandfather and all the others who have left…and they will have a welcoming party for him.
*Aure and Chile go to the mortuary to select a coffin for Val. Chile thinks they should put a cellphone in it so Val can have music to dance over to the beyond…and a stuffed toy that he can squeeze. Chile also wants to spray lots of cologne in it so it can smell nice. Aure assures him that they can do all that. Chile walks around and as he passes by ValdeGhost, he feels a chill. Chile thinks that selling coffins could be a good business since people take good care of their loved ones who have died. Aure agrees since ValdeGhost did very well with that business. Chile sees a coffin that he thinks Val would like and cries as Aure comforts him.
*Flor walks in a stupor as she tells Marga, Mariana, and Teo that she is going with Val. Marga tries to tell her that this is not an appropriate time, but Flor insists on going because he needs her; and she feels in her heart that he is still alive. As Flor goes into the patio, all her students and friends stand waiting for her with flowers and candles (tissue time again!). Flor cries as she sees them and walks by them.
Ep 13, Part 2: Flor Mourns Her Loss
*At the casino, Octi is reproaching Sami because she slept with Val. When Sami denies it, Octi tells her he followed her and saw them, but Sami still insists that she never went to bed with Val. She then lies through her teeth and tells Octi that Val was blackmailing her; she wanted nothing to do with him. Octi still doesn’t believe her, but doesn’t have any proof. Sami seductively tells him that he is going to have to believe her, because the only one who knows the truth is quite dead. Octi then informs Sami that he is still going to take precautionary measures…starting the next day, she will be escorted everywhere she goes and she’d better not argue. Sami is fine with it, but she is not going to let anyone tarnish her name; if she has to talk to the widow, then she will do so. Octi calls Aure and reminds him that he has a job to do. Aure tells him that he can’t go because his sister’s husband just passed away, but Octi doesn’t give a hoot and tells Aure that he’d better be at the casino in an hour.
*Oscarella, the radio host, announces that the municipal judge has canceled all the festivities. He reminds everyone that one year ago, they said good bye to Joaquín Valderrábano and now to the one who was fortunate to have won the lottery, but encountered death…may he rest in peace. As he finishes, Marga and Mariana accompany Flor to the hospital. As they pass by some of the HTT ladies who feel sorry for Flor who is such a young widow with a baby on the way, the ladies comment about the evil dance that brought tragedy once more; so Mariana approaches them and chides them for their comments…they should be a little more considerate. As Mariana catches up to Flor, Malba comes out from the shadows.
*Chile and Aure are back at the hospital where Nestór questions how they could have chosen a coffin already if the funeral home is closed. Chile fudges and replies that they went to another nearby town; and Aure backs him up. When Nestór tells them that they will have to store the coffin for now since an autopsy is required for anyone who dies in a public place, Chile tries to argue, but Nestór is adamant that it is a requirement.
*Teo goes home and tells Oriana that he is going to stay in town longer than he had planned. When Oriana assumes it’s because of Flor, Teo admits that it is…since he and Flor have been friends since childhood and he wants to show his support. Oriana plans to go back to Madrid, but would like to stay the days they had planned so that she won’t have to change her flight. Teo has no problem with it, but he won’t be able to spend time with her. Oriana doesn’t mind since she can go sightseeing and take pictures.
*Malba tells Cassy that Flor is Valentin’s wife. Cassy thinks that Val was probably married when she met him. She plans to tell Flor the truth about Val because she doesn’t want him to be resting in peace.
*Flor is at the hospital when Aure tells her that an autopsy will be required since the cause of Val’s death is not known. Chile asks her no to allow it; he wants Val to go to heaven in one piece. When Flor asks where Val is, Chile offers to take her to him; he just needs to ask for permission. After Aure tells Flor that he has to leave to go to work, Chile approaches and tells Flor she can now go in. When Flor enters, Nestór gives her his condolences, and Flor asks to be alone with Val. Before leaving, Nestór mentions the patrol cars Val had promised, but Flor doesn’t think this is the time. Flor stays alone with Val. Meanwhile outside, Marga and Mariana question the autopsy and ask Nestór to overlook it. Just then, the doctor approaches and tells them that Val died of a heart attack.
Ep 13, Part 3: Flor Mourns Her Loss
*Inside with Val, Flor tries to get close to him, but can’t and stays close to the door. She thanks Val for leaving a little piece of him with her. She steps forward to look at him, but she can’t bring herself to do it; so she tells him she loves him and leaves. Out in the hall, Itza arrives and sees Flor; she tried to get there as soon as she could since she found out what happened. When Flor comments that her cards were right, Itza tells her that her cards are telling her something different. Flor refuses to listen to her; Val is dead and she is not interested in her cards or destiny. After Flor walks away, Marga tells Itza that she and her cards are no longer welcome in her family.
*Sami tries to make a deal with Aure. If he leaves her alone, he can do whatever he wants with his time. Aure is afraid that Octi will find out, but Sami doesn’t think Octi has a need to find out. She tells Aure that it’s up to him, but he will have to be waiting for her for hours. She then tells him that he can leave; she will let him know if she is going out.
*At the hospital, Itza enters Val’s room and places a pendant in his hand. She then says a chant asking that the Xoloitzcuintli guide him to freedom. As she finishes, ValdeGhost appears and tries to take the pendant from Val’s hand, but gets burned because the pendant is blessed. ValdeGhost wants Val to stay and pay penance with him.
*Flor is back at Casa Rosa where Father Elpidio and others give her their condolences. After Flor asks Marina to go home so she can go rest and see Xotchitl, Flor thanks everyone. She cries as she tells them that Val was a good man…and fun. She had always thought she didn’t need a man to be happy, but Val, with his smile and puppy eyes, made her very happy.
The next day—
*Marga asks Flor how she is feeling and if she was able to sleep. Flor shakes her head. When Chile tells them that the townspeople set up an altar for Val, Marga thinks it was very irresponsible of Father Elpidio to set it up. When Chile tells Flor that he is there for whatever she needs, Flor assumes that he will be getting on with his life, but Chile wants to stay and look after Vaentincito since he and Val had made a promise to take care of each other’s children if anything were to happen to them. Flor agrees that he can stay and help her however he can.
*Tito asks Itza, his mother, if she is still upset about what happened to Val. Itza admits that she is, but she is more worried about Flor who is suffering. When Itza tells him that she left the pendant with Val hoping that he goes directly to his eternal rest, Tito is surprised that she would give up the pendant her father gave her. Itza then shares how Flor got angry with her because of the cards and thinks it’s time that she do away with the cards. Tito thinks she’s crazy because she has always said that it was her gift; he is sure that the planets will align and Flor will get over it. After Tito asks what she saw in the cards, she tells him that Val is dead, but is not dead; she wonders how that could be.

Ep 13, Part 4: Flor Mourns Her Loss
*Marga is with Flor as she cries. Marga knows how Flor must feel to see that a husband full of life is not going to return. Flor knows she has to be strong for her baby. Marga assures her that she is not alone; and Marga will help her raise the baby. She wants Flor to count on her as she has never done before; though Flor has never counted on her because of her (Marga’s) pride and awful character. Flor doesn’t want to talk about the past and Marga understands; she just wants Flor to know that her grandson has his grandmother to take care of him and protect him.
*Outside, Oriana takes pictures of Chile. Chile thinks Val sent her to him so he goes to flirt with her. When he offers to take her on a tour the next day, Oriana quickly declines and walks away. Chile wonders why Val sends him these tests; he just isn’t ready.
*Cassy goes to Casa Rosa and is greeted by Marga. She walks right in as if she owns the place and tells Marga that she needs to talk to Flor right away.
-tween us. And I forgot to put MARADA Before I start commenting. Well y'all get it.
Thanks again Anita.
Anita, thank you for this excellent recap, you made me laugh with "TOOTIM" (The Only Other Town In Mexico). It does seem that there is only ever one police station, or detective, or hospital, or whatever. Even in CDMX, which we know can't be true.
Are these people brain dead? Susana and Marina together alone and the poor little blind girl knocks something over and breaks it. Nobody, not even Marina, realizes what's going on? Wow.
And why don't Damiana and Angsty just have a little tea party with Pru and drop little hints until Pru's eyes get big and she asks "You don't mean...?"
Does anybody know if medical residents get paid in Mexico?
andy
Utterly amazing Rgv Chick!
Your recap blew me away. So clear, concise, enthralling and written with great heart.
"After Tito asks what she saw in the cards, she tells him that Val is dead, but is not dead; she wonders how that could be" could not have been phrased any better.
Thank you for “Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican hairless breed of dog)”.
Your words conjured up crystalline images" "Chile then thanks Val for adopting him as a younger brother and protecting him from those who would bully him at the orphanage". Eyes misted. "Chile will love him for the rest of his life". Tears started. " Chile sees a coffin that he thinks Val would like and cries as Aure comforts him"". Heartbreaking.
“Marga who hugs her tight (finally! A good maternal instinct kicks in!)”. Rgv Chick, you are a very kind person. Kinder than I. I begrudgingly give Marga a few points but wouldn’t a complete stranger want to hug anyone who just lost someone they loved? She has a LOT to atone for. Marga ain't my favorite.
Poor Flor. Alone with her mean spirited sister and callous mother. Thank heavens for the baby. And Chile :)
Increasingly interested in this story due to your superior storytelling skillz.
Thank you Rgv, thank you!
Diana
Anita, even though I have no idea what is going on in this story, I was scrolling and my eyes went right to "Did you mean... Stuffed with gym socks to make his raisins resemble avocados?" I laughed out loud. And heartily.
What a pick me up that was! Now Friday is even better!!!
Diana
Oh Anita, thank you for your recap and for giving RgvChick a day off so that she won't get burned out. I missed half the episode dialogue because my Spanish skills are the pits, so you explained a lot of what happened. It was a fun read, for sure.
And in hindsight, I really wish I had watched El Tal. I think. LOL
""TOOTIM" (The Only Other Town In Mexico)" honest-go-goodness made me laugh out loud.
Oh my, how different Vane's bedroom looked after it was re-done for Dami & Mari. It now looks like a room for the servidumbre, which was probably the idea.
With more house-guests, Pru will have less time for her coloring books.
Lino still showing Vane those abandoned puppy dog eyes. Actor is doing great in this role.
Su-doo-doo is such an evil witch!!! ARgh! I'm already hoping there will be a good anvil for her. Her tossing back that drink at dinner, and her face as soon as she did, it was priceless.
How on earth did Doc Wacko get the upper hand in his rumble with Baldo & Tori outside? Sheesh! I look away for one second at my iPad ... and I missed it all.
Doc Wack is cray cray!!! Seriously. He needs to be locked up and the key thrown away. Could be it is hot and humid under that mask and it makes him cranky. Just sayin'.
Those flats Mari wore to dinner were probs what Vane gave her to wear, too. She seemed to have a harder time walking in them than she did in high heels. Whaaaaa??? Oh well, beanie hat time, or else the shoes were a size too small.
Will we ever see Tori's head that he keeps hidden under that big wool hat? It might have all sorts of scars from the mysterious damage done to him. I'm glad the writers threw us some more crumbs on that story-line.
OT
Thank you, Alexander Velazquez, for the info on the new telenovela!!! Angelica Vale must have bounced back to Telerisa from T'mundo. I enjoyed her in La Fan.

Oooh, it will have Diego Olivera and his pained constipated facial expressions! Will he have a wardrobe of bulky local artisan-ish Crap from Afar©
sweaters, again? I have to give this one a try. (Good thing NHL playoffs will dwindle down to final bracket in another week! More TV time. Yay.)
Diana - I know, right? What a hoot.
Anita, I did not watch the show that produced all the avocado jokes. Wasn't there a show that caused comments about "nerfazos" or something being thrown at the tv screen?
Hope everyone has a good day. Sunny here.
Susanlynn, I had to smile. I think there were quite a few shows that inspired those emotions, right? :)
doris, so good to laugh...
Hope to "see" Judy shortly!
Diana
♥susanlynn - yes, I remember when "lanza nerfazos" was created, but I cannot recall which telenovela we were watching. It began when we all wanted to throw something at our TV screens (due to the inherent, ubiquitous, and obligatory stupidity/locura/whatevs of some story-line or character) but did not want to damage them (the TV, that is). Then, someone suggested Nerf products as the safest, and the rest is Telenovela Patio history. (lol)
"due to the inherent, ubiquitous, and obligatory stupidity/locura/whatevs of some story-line or character) but did not want to damage them (the TV, that is) had me chuckling again doris.
I am sensing this might have started during Fuego en la Sangre? So many silly things just turned stoopid. I'm sure Anita will remember.
Diana
Diana - it may well have been FELS. That telenovela definitely was ... um ... memorable? left an impression? affected us? required self help support group? hilariously entertaining? .. I should have asked for a FELS viewer survival tee shirt at the MetaMart. I swear, I would wear it in public. 🙄 FELS was Salvador Mejia at his finest. Shower scenes. Swimming hole scenes. Lots of horses.
LANZA NERFAZOS
So now we have nerfazos?? You all are really a wild bunch! The earliest I can find nerfazos is "Abismo de Pasion." I'll let you in on my trick for finding these things quite quickly. Type in a word or phrase into the "Search" box on the sidebar and you will get links to Caray pages that have those words. It works well especially with words that are not common...like "nerfazos" and "Meta Mart" :-)
MIRADA
Anita, the master writer, thank you so much for your delightful recap and the sides are just fabulous. "TOOTIM" gotta write that one down.!
Doris and Andy, you highlighted so many things that I was going to mention!
Andy, "Are these people brain dead?" I believe so!! Why on earth would they even think about leaving Marina alone with either Susana or Vanesa? Really, really, STOOOPID! But I am so glad Marina has the good sense to address the situation with maturity and finesse.
Doris, the bedroom really looked different...and gloomy. You are so right! it looks like it should be for the servidumbre. I kept asking myself why they would even have to move furniture around; so these people furnish a room only when they have guests?? To move all that furniture was really an inconvenience. I'm sure SuDoodoo's bed would have been big enough for two people. That Doc Wacko is pure evil; I wish someone would whack him off into the back hole.
FLOR
Diana, just about the entire episode was a tearjerker. Both Flor and Chile did quite an amazing job at portraying their grief. And I agree about Marga, she has a loong way to go before even the thought of redemption can come up. I cringed when she told Flor that she would help her raise the baby. I wanted to say, "Run, Flor, run!" But, I do have to say that the way Marga looked at Flor did seem to be one of genuine concern.
Susanlynn, I hope your spirits are lifted. Along with the death themes, there is a theme that those who go before us never really leave. May you find comfort in all those instances when you feel your husband close to you and sending you messages.
doris, what was the name of that beautiful stallion in Fuego? No, not Yanez or Salinas, but the horse???
Rgv Chick, thank you for explaining that Marga's expression backed up her words. I guess she has a human side after all.
Susanlynn, I will just echo Rgv Chick's eloquent words...God bless.
Diana
Diana, Taaa-Daaa..... Capricio it is!!! Can't believe that trivia was lurking in my brain, but he was the smartest character in that telenovela.
using Rgv Chick's handy search tip above, I found this:
"Honestly! If they would just take Capricio into the orphanage, he would know which baby is J&S's. Who needs a DNA test? The horse is smart enough to know. He might need Mariachi's second opinion to verify, but there it is."

😆😆😆
Diana
I thank you, RVG. Dedication and accuracy are your trademarks, for sure. Everything you wrote, I recalled in my head. Still, it moves too fast for me, so that's another reason to be grateful.
FELS
I watched this when it was rebroadcast, several years later, but read the recaps and comments daily and felt as though I was part of the action and laughed all the way through.
Whoever it was that wondered, the Tarzan Jane in the forest was played by Sofia Vergara.
Q: Does anyone remember how Pablo Montero's acting was described? A: Can't find the exact words using "Search" - too many references, but it had something to do with his acting running the gamut from A to B. (It was mentioned that his acting was wooden and in earlier tns he'd been in. Tough he is a celebrity for his singing voice, everyone cringed at his off-key Ave Maria.)
Couldn't help myself. And in only Episode #2. Here it is from Pasofino:
"I hope we don't end up calling the Brothers Reyes the three stooges before this is all over. Brother Franco (Pablo Montero?) apears to have acting skills that run the gamut from A to B."
Ok, promise, this is the last one. My Ode to FELS (written a long time ago, never published anywhere)
FUEGO EN LA SANGRE
Once upon a time in Mexi-doon,
The town that time forgot, but not Mejía,
There were three guys with Fire in Their Blood.
They rode horses everywhere,
While others rode around in cars.
They meet three pretty gals
With ice in their veins.
They have a terrible mother
Who guards family secrets with drink in hand.
There are menacing villains, victims, flowers that glow
And plenty of superfluous characters.
The guys make bread
In a very Hot kitchen.
The gals don't do anything
Until they open a shop
We called Crap From Afar.
Rosario does Bombon Asesina over and over ad nauseam,
Men cheer.
Padre rides a darling donkey.
The dog was best in show and then was gone.
The three guys cooled down, the three gals heated up.
Once the dead were buried, villains gone, secrets out
There were three bodas and lots of babies (and nuns).
Anita, thank you for your "Ode to FELS." I was not watching TNs back then, and after reading these various comments on FELS I feel I missed something... fortunately.
:-)
andy
Capricio was either Fresian or Paso Fino.
Oh dear, Pablo's Ave Maria is still indelibly burned into my mind. He lowered the bar for everyone in North America.
Anita - your Ode to FELS is a hoot!!!
I forgot about Ninel Conde and her boobs having a role in this.
And who could believe mama Gabriela ended up doing a turnaround as Mama Suegra in MMTF and MMTMF?!?
Andy--It's one thing to watch this porqueria alone. It's another to watch it with a lively audience that talks to each other afterwards--sort of like FLOR and MIRADA. So, thank you again RGV, Reina de Recappers.
"Rosario does Bombon Asesina over and over ad nauseam, Men cheer" had me laughing and nodding my head in vigorous agreement Anita. Geez, how could I have forgotten that character?
And yes doris, Pablo's Ave Maria was embarrassing - and that is saying a lot considering the bad storylines and often absent acting of any caliber. :)
susanlynn, yes, we've always made sweet out of the sour, no matter how difficult it was with a few of the stories we saw.
andy, you would have had a lot of fun with this and would have made some wonderful comments.
Diana
Ep 32: Part 1 When Worlds Collide
*Vanesa listens to Lino’s song on the video she made as she remembers Marina telling her that she could be happy if she wanted to. Vanesa wonders if Lino told Marina something; so she goes to see him as he is doing his push-ups and showing off his lean body. When she asks if he told Marina about them, Lino replies that he may be many things, but he isn’t one to go around telling Marina or anyone else about his intimate life. Vanesa thinks he did it because of how she treated him. Lino responds that he is going to take what happened between them out his life, out of his mind and he is going to forget about her. Vanesa wonders why Marina said what she did. Meanwhile, Su looks for Vanesa and wonders where she could be.
*Doc Mask wonders where Baldo took Marina and recalls that Tori said that he wouldn’t be allowed int wherever Marina is. He then figures she could be at the ranch, but then doesn’t think it could be possible since Marina ended her relationship with Beto.
*Marina confides in Dami that she is concerned about Pru’s situation…she is also a victim of her husband…and so is Beto who doesn’t even know that his father sent them to be thrown out of their house. Dami suggests that Marina tell Beto, but Marina responds that Beto has to be focused on his exams…and Don L is not a good person. When Dami comments that Don L will love her some day, Marina wonders if that day will ever come.
*Pru tells Angsty that Marina was very disappointed to learn that Don L sent someone to run them out of their house. Marina only agreed to stay because Dami intervened. Angsty explains that Dami knows how important it is that Pru support Beto and Marina…and that Pru needs to get to know Marina so she can get rid of all her absurd ideas. When Angsty asks why Pru told Marina the truth, Pru replies that she didn’t want to be carrying that secret around, then asks if Angsty knows what it feels like to carry the burden of keeping a secret (Not just one secret, Pru! More like a hundred!). Angsty replies that it is a feeling that she doesn’t wish upon anyone.
*Su and Vanesa discuss how Don L is responsible for Dami getting hurt. Su explains that it was really the worker who wanted to take advantage of the situation, so Vanesa understands why Marina is furious. Su thinks Marina played the situation well and took advantage of Pru’s feelings of guilt. When Su comments that Marina is sharper than she thought and that Pru is falling into her little trap, Vanesa urges Su to give it up since her plans haven’t been working out. Su responds that she is only beginning… then asks Vanesa where she was. When Vanesa replies that she just went out for a walk, Su threatens that she’d better stay away from that peon or she’ll make sure that he and his family are out of work.
*Lino asks Yola if she told Marina about him and Vanesa. Yola admits that someone had to tell her since Marina was feeling bad about taking Beto from that “sangrona” (literally means person with too much blood” but is intended for someone who has a strong, bothersome personality).
*Marina is having a good time making breakfast with Hortencia. Pru comes in and asks what Mari is doing and comments that it smells very good. When Pru comments that she is glad that Mari stayed, Marina assures her that she has nothing against her. She is only trying to understand Don L since he is, after all, the father of the man she loves. Marina knows that Beto would never forgive Don L for what he did and doesn’t want them to be at odds, but Don L needs to admit that he was wrong and should apologize to her mother. Pru smiles as she tells Marina that she is starting to understand why Beto loves her.
*Vanesa wonders if Su is going to continue with her plan since she is bound to fail. Su insists that she is continuing because she needs to salvage their fortune; and she is going to show Marina what place she should have in that family…that of a “chacha” (maid).
Ep 32: Part 2 When Worlds Collide
*Su approaches Marina and asks if she made breakfast. When Su tells her that being in the kitchen fits her well, Marina responds that she doesn’t want to be there doing nothing; she wants to be useful. Su then mentions that Pru has asked that someone shine the silver, but no one has time to do it. Mari would love to do that for Pru; so Su offers to watch while she does it and will tell her if she is doing it well.
*Doc Mask arrives and asks for Pru; so Horti goes to call Pru who is with Dami. Before Pru leaves, Dami tells Pru that Doc shouldn’t find out that they are there. Dami explains that Doc doesn’t want Beto and Marina to be together…and he is obsessed with Marina. When she asks Pru to help them, Pru tells her not to worry and goes down to talk to Doc.
*Zack returns to the ranch and gets into an argument with Lino. Margarito arrives and tells Zackrat to leave. Lino hopes his father doesn’t get in trouble because of Zackrat, but Margarito is more worried that Pru asked him not to tell Don L that Dami and Marina are there.
*In the kitchen, Horti tells Marina that someone came to see Pru; so Marina offers to take the guest a glass of water. Fortunately, Yola arrives and asks to talk to Marina; so Horti takes the glass of water.
*Pru tells Doc that her husband is not there, but Doc is there to ask about Dami and Marina who might have told them where they went. Pru tells him that the workers report to her husband, not to her. Angsty then comes out and tells Pru that they are waiting for her at the breakfast table; so Doc leaves. As he walks away, Zackrat sees him.
*In the kitchen, Yola tells Marina that Vanesa went to reproach Lino since Mari hinted that she knew about them. Marina is sorry, but she didn’t like how Vanesa was pretending to be the jilted girlfriend. Yola warns Marina to be careful because Su and Vanesa are probably planning something to make sure her relationship with Beto fails. When Marina wonders why Yola is saying that about Su who has been so nice to her, Yola tells her that Su is worse than Vanesa…behind her smile are bad intentions.
*Su relishes in the fact that Marina will be cooking and cleaning the silver…those people know their place. Now Su wants Vanesa to look for an apron for Marina so she can be like any other employee.
*Dami thanks Pru for covering for them. Pru agrees that there is something odd about Doc; so Dami tells her that behind the mask is much suffering; and she repeats that he is obsessed with Marina.
*Horti is watching Marina cut tomatoes who also needs avocados, so Horti goes for some. As she leaves, Vanesa enters and Marina chides her for reproaching Lino. They get into a heated argument when Marina tells her that Lino loves her as much as she loves him, but she doesn’t have the courage to defend her love. Vanesa retorts that Marina shouldn’t even be there. If Marina hadn’t entered their lives, she and Beto would be married. She wouldn’t have cheated on Beto; and Beto wouldn’t have fallen in love with a hungry beggar like her. When Marina asks how she can be reproaching her when she is in love with someone else, Vanesa replies that she doesn’t love Lino because they are not the same...and Beto is not the same as Marina either. Vanesa shouts that Marina is going to ruin Beto’s life and his friendships. Marina refuses to leave Beto.
*Pru and the other ladies hear all the shouting; so Pru goes down to see what is going on. When she gets there, Vanesa tells her that the “lacra” (leech/user) is attacking her and runs off. Marina apologizes to Pru and tells her to go take care of Vanesa.
Ep 32: Part 3 When Worlds Collide
*Beto bumps into Dr. Bazán who thought he was gone hunting since that is what he was told when he called to his house to set up the appointment for Marina. Beto is ready at any time for the appointment, but Dr. Bazán will be busy until the following week. When Beto tells him that Marina is very excited that she might be able to see again, Dr. Bazán reminds him that it will all depend on the results of the exam. They then talk about Beto’s exams and how Beto is postponing them for a while.
At the ranch, Vanesa tells Pru that she didn’t start the argument. She went in to have a nice conversation with Marina, but it was horrible and Marina told her she didn’t want to do anything with her….and when Marina told her that she loved Beto more than Vanesa, Vanesa just lost it. Pru is surprised that Marina would react in such an explosive way. Vanesa remarks that Marina is a hypocrite who is just trying to win her over. Vanesa should have know better since Marina wants to take Pru’s affection too.
Marina tells Angsty and Dami about the argument and how she only told Vanesa some truths…but she knows that Vanesa is right because she is no one to be telling Vanesa anything. Dami asks if Marina provoked the argument; and as Marina tells her that she didn’t and that she doesn’t want to cause any problems for Pru, Su walks in and asks what happened. Angsty tells her that Marina and Vanesa had an argument.
*Pru knew that having Vanesa and Marina together would be a problem. Vanesa tells her not to worry because she knows that Pru has to have Marina there because she is her son’s girlfriend…and Vanesa is no one so Pru is probably going to ask her to leave. As Pru assures her that she wouldn’t do that, Su walks in consoling Vanesa and asking her if Marina offended her. Vanesa tells her that Marina told her that she loved Beto more…it made her feel bad. Su points out to Pru that they have been cordial and friendly…and look what that girl dared to say. After Pru leaves, Su praises Vanesa for finally defending her place in the family.
*Marina apologizes to Pru who tells her that Vanesa is like a daughter to her and she doesn’t want to have to choose between them. Pru then asks Marina to avoid any future confrontations.
*Eric wonders why Beto is postponing his specialty exam…he doesn’t even know if he will be getting a worthwhile job. Beto is confident that if he doesn’t get a job at that hospital; he will get one elsewhere. Eric thinks Beto should wait until his father accepts Marina, but Beto can’t wait until then; he needs to bring Marina and her mother to the city soon.
*Dami tells Marina that Pru should have backed her up. When Marina reminds her that Pru considers Vanesa as a daughter, Dmai responds that that is Marina’s place. Marina questions what she said and thinks that someday way off in the future that might happen when Don Luis accepts her. Dami points out that Marina is Beto’s wife; and as Marina reminds her that Pru doesn’t know it and that she isn’t going to tell her until Beto returns, Zackrat watches them.
*Vanesa tells Horti that she should give Marina an apron so that Marina won’t get dirty.
*Su whines as she tells Pru that Vanesa was very hurt by what happened. Pru feels like she is between a sword and the wall since Marina is her guest and Beto’s girlfriend. Su reminds her that Vanesa is like a daughter to her. Pru agrees but asks Su not to force her to make a decision regarding Marina.
*Marina goes to talk to Vanesa, but Horti comes in and tells Marina that Lino wants to talk to her. Vanesa wonders why Lino would want to see Marina.
Ep 32: Part 4 When Worlds Collide
*Zackrat goes to Doc Mask and tells him that he saw Dami and Marina at the ranch. Doc grabs him by the neck and tells him he doesn’t like to be lied to; so Zackrat swears that he saw them there from a distance; they looked very comfortable. When Doc tells him that it is impossible since Beto and Marina broke up, Zackrat asks him to think about why Dami and Marina would be at the ranch. After Doc points out that Don L isn’t there, Zackrat tells him that Don L probably doesn’t know that they are there and suggests that Doc call Don L to let him know.
*Beto is busy studying when Don L calls him to ask how he is doing. When Don L asks about his specialty exam, Beto tells him he is studying hard for it.
*Marina wonders what Lino wants to talk to her about; so he tells her that he would like to discuss his organic produce with her. He takes her to the orchard, but Marina knows that he didn’t bring her there to discuss the produce. Lino admits that he wants to talk about Vanesa and proceeds to tell her that they didn’t plan on getting involved; it just happened…it was something beautiful. Even though Vanesa offended and humiliated him, he has no regrets….he still loves Vanesa, but Vanesa is right since they are from different worlds; and he has nothing to offer her. Marina thinks otherwise since he is intelligent and has a bright future. When Marina argues that they are all the same, Lino insists that they aren’t; that is why he is staying away from Vanesa.
*Horti gives Angsty an apron for Marina. Angsty gets upset and reminds Horti that Marina is a guest in the house. Horti starts crying because she didn’t want to offend anyone; it wasn’t even her idea…it was Vanesa’s.
*Erasmo goes to remind Yola about their date. She tries to get out of it, but when he reminds her of the favor he did for her; she agrees to go out with him.
*Doc calls Don L and tells him that Dami and Marina are staying at his ranch. Don L wonders how he knows; so Doc tells him he saw them when he went to talk to Pru who lied to him. Don L mentions that Beto and Marina were over, but Doc tells him that everyone lied to him. There are things happening at his ranch that aren’t good for either of them…and Don L is the only one who can do something about it.
*As Vanesa paces angrily because Lino asked to see Marina just to get to her, Angsty enters and doesn’t care what the argument with Marina was about. All she knows is that it isn’t Marina’s fault that Vanesa is in the situation she is in. When Angsty demands to know if giving Marina an apron was Su’s idea, Vanesa denies it; but Angsty knows that Su is always trying to find a way to make Marina look bad. When Angsty accuses Su of sending Vanesa to argue with Marina, Vanesa tells her Su had nothing to do with it…the argument was about Lino. Angsty tells her that is what happens since she doesn’t want to admit what she feels for Lino, but Vanesa argues that it doesn’t matter how much she loves Lino; she can’t be with him. Angsty thinks it’s pitiful that Vanesa doesn’t have the courage to fight for whom she loves…she’d rather do as her mother says. After Vanesa admits that she doesn’t have the courage that Beto has, Angsty pleads with her not to help her mother do things against Marina.
Tori asks Mari if she is happy. Mari replies that she is happy and that there is a special bond developing between her and Pru. Tori worries that she will encounter the devil who bothers him when he sleeps. Mari assures him that they will try to help him get rid of his nightmares when she goes to the city. Su walks in and tells Marina that she already has everything ready for Marina to shine the silverware. She is not happy that her plan is foiled when Tori tells her that he will help Marina.
Beto is in his room studying as he paces…and…No cliffhanger!!!
Ep 14, Part 1: Don't Bad-Mouth a Dead Man…He Might Come Back
Cassy introduces herself and tells Marga that she knows Flor just lost her husband. What she has to tell Flor might help make alleviate her pain. Meanwhile, Samantha tells Aure to take her to Flor’s house; she needs to show her support since the poor woman just lost her husband.
*Flor tells Marga that she doesn’t know anyone named Cassandra and prefers not to talk to anyone. When Marga tells her that Cassy wants to tell her something that will make her feel better, Flor responds that no one can make her feel better. Out in the patio, Chile see Cassy and wonders what she is doing there if she is supposed to be in jail. Cassy tells him that she was in jail, but now, on the day she came looking for Val, death beat her to it and she didn’t have the pleasure of killing him with her own hands. As they argue, Flor comes and asks what is going on; so Cassy asks her if she can speak to her…alone.
*At the hospital, Teo tells the doctor that the cause of Val’s death was confirmed to be a heart attack. Since Val died of natural causes, the doctor will get the paperwork ready so that the body can be released.
*Cassy tells Flor that she was the one who killed the man the previous year at the festival. When Flor asks what Val had to do with that, Cassy explains that she and Val were involved and she had even hoped to marry him, but he avoided the commitment. Flor wonders how this is supposed to make her feel better; so Cassy tells her that she had intended to kill him, but the other man got in the way. She paid for her crime and came looking for Val so that he could return all the money he stole from her. When Flor won’t allow her to talk badly about Val, Cassy tells her that there are many things she doesn’t know about Val. He knew exactly how to hook her sot that he could steal 2 million dollars from her. Flor thinks Cassy is making up all these things and asks her to leave, but Cassy asks her why she would make up something like this if Val is dead.
*Maraga notices that Chile is nervous and asks him who the woman is. Chile replies that she is a crazy woman who they met…she went bonkers and wanted to marry Val; he has no idea why she is there. After he tells her that she shouldn’t have allowed Cassy in, Marga wonders why Cassy would make up a story about a past with Val. Chile doesn’t want to talk about Val because he still hasn’t gotten used to the idea that Val is gone and now he is all alone like an abandoned dog. When Mara doesn’t know what to say to him, but Chile doesn’t need her to say anything; he just needs a hug. Marga slowly approaches him to give him a hug, they grab each other and start kissing frantically.
*Cassy understands that it is hard for Flor to believe her. Val was no saint; he was a genius and knew exactly how to treat women. Flor still doesn’t understand what Cassy has to gain by telling her all these things; so Cassy explains that she is not doing this for herself. She saw how Flor cried over Val and she doesn’t think Flor should be suffering over someone who doesn’t deserve it. When Flor still doesn’t believe her, Cassy tells her to ask Chile, Val’s accomplice.
*Chile is trying to kiss Marga on her mouth, but she refuses because then she will fall in love. As they argue, Flor comes out and asks Chile to tell her that Cassy is lying, but Chile has no idea what Cassy has told her. ValdeGhost appears and tells him to confess. Chile hears him and denies being a thief. Flor tells Chile that no one called him a thief, but that woman did mention some stolen money. After ValdeGhost tells Chile to confess, Chile kneels and starts praying. Maraga wonders what is wrong with him and as she approaches him, ValdeGhost hits him on the head and Chile cries out in pain. Marga and Flor are totally confused by his behavior.
*Cassy tells Malba that she was able to talk to Flor. She isn’t sure Flor believed her, but at least Flor now has doubts. Malba tells her that her father is waiting for her, but Cassy is in no hurry to see him.
Ep 14, Part 2: Don’t Bad-Mouth a Dead Man…He Might Come Back
*As Marga and Flor are tending to Chile, they hear a knock at the door; so Flor goes to see who it is. Marga asks Chile if he is feeling lonely, but Chile just needs a kiss. Samantha arrives and wants to talk to Flor…about Val. Flor thinks it’s strange that everyone has decided to come talk to her about Val.
*A man is telling Bendito, Cassy’s father, that their political party is not happy that Cassy was released so soon. Bendito will have to decide what is more important to him. As they talk, Cassy calls Bendito and tells him she is on her way.
*Sami knows she should have talked to Flor sooner, but she didn’t want to hurt her. Val was always after her and blackmailed her. Flor doesn’t want to hear it and orders her to leave, but Cassy swears nothing happened between them, but Octi might not believe her and could kill her.
*Bendito wonders if the man is asking him to turn in his daughter. When the man points out that they would be known as the party who enforces the law, Bendito wonders if they are going to continue stealing from the people and do whatever they want with the people. The man responds that if he wants to serve his country and his people, he will need to make sacrifices.
*Marga wants to know what Flor wanted him to confirm, but Chile only needs a kiss from her…Val would have been very happy if they became one. Marga finally succumbs to his pleas and kisses him. Meanwhile, Sami is telling Flor all about Val (errr, her version of it). He was after her ever since he first came into to town, but then left. When he returned as Flor’s husband, she thought he wouldn’t continue to look for her, but he did. If Flor doesn’t believe her, Flor should check Val’s phone for the video with which he would blackmail her. Flor doesn’t want to hear anymore and pushes Sami out. When Chile sees Sami, he quickly makes excuses to go after Sami. He catches up to her and asks what lies he told Flor. When Sami responds that she only told Flor the truth and that nothing had happened between her and Val; Chile wonders if she also told Flor that she was asking for half of the money. Inside the house, Flor is freaking out and crying. When Marga asks what the women told her to get her upset, Flor cries and yells that she doesn’t want to talk about it…she doesn’t want o talk to anyone.
*Chile goes to see Val and tells him he doesn’t want to think of him badly; he only wants to remember him with a smile and his eyes open. He then tells Val that Cassie and Sami went to talk to Flor. He doesn’t know what to do since Flor will be asking him lots of question. Chile thinks about leaving town, but he doesn’t want to because he is liked there. Chile then tells Val that he made progress with Marga, but when Flor finds out, then there will be problems. Chile cries as he tells Val that he is no longer there to protect him.
*Octi tells Oscar, Father Elpidio and Nestor that it is very important that they find the lottery ticket…it’s important for the town. Father El thinks they should be thinking about how to help Flor and Oscar thinks they have very little consideration for Flor, but Octi thinks business is business and Val owed him a lot of money…he needs to get it back. Father tells them that once Flor is better, they can approach her and talk to her about all the promises Val made to them. When Father El wonders who it is that should go talk to her, they all point to him.
Ep 14, Part 3: Don’t Bad-Mouth a Dead Man…He Might Come Back
*Mariana wonders if Flor is going to believe everything she was told…those women just came to plant the seed of doubt. Flor gets Val’s phone, but would remember Val as he was…though she knows he had his faults, she can’t believe he was a thief or that he accosted women. When Mariana asks Flor what she would do if she found out that what the women said is true, Flor shrugs.
*At night and alone, Flor recalls her times with Val, how she asked Val to marry her and their church wedding. She then recalls what Cassy and Sami told her…and cries. Flor pick up Val’s phone, looks at it,but hen puts it back on the nightstand.
*Chile sneaks into Flor’s room as she sleeps curled up in her bed. He goes to the closet and gets some of Val’s clothes, but wakes up Flor when he stumbles. After he explains that he was getting the suit for Val, Flor asks him if what the women said was true. Chile avoids the questions, but Flor asks him to put himself in her place. Chile tells her that only he and she knew Val as whom he really was—a good man. He wonders if she is really going to believe what a pair of snakes say since they only want to tarnish their memories of Val.
*Mariana tells Aure that she needs to go see Flor. She cries because she doesn’t know what else to say to Flor to console her.
*Rose goes to see Flor and gives her a consolation hug. She hadn’t come because she was taking care of Xotchitl. Rose knows how Flor feels---to lose the person she lost the most; but Rose is worse because she has to see the man she loves with another woman.
*Aure and Chile try to dress Val in his suit…quite awkwardly, as they move the stiff body around. As Chile picks up Val’s old clothes, he also takes the pendant that Itza left in his hands (oh, noes!). Chile goes off to leave the clothes; and Aure stays to finish dressing Val. Outside, Octi tells his goon to search Casa Rosa for the lottery ticket while everyone is at the funeral.
*Flor asks Rose what she thought of Val…her first impression and whether she would have trusted him at first sight. Rose isn’t sure how to respond; and Mariana wonders what they are talking about, so Flor explains that she doesn’t know if she was blinded by her love. Mariana tells her that at first she had doubts, but once she got to know Val, she thinks she came to know the real Val…the one who loved Flor very much.
*Flor apologizes to Itza who still wants to give up card reading. There is no use in having a gift if she can’t help people. Flor doesn’t want Itza to change who she is and tells her she needs her at her side during this difficulty time in her life. She wants Itza to be with her at the funeral.
*Octi asks Sami if she is going to the funeral. The people in town like to gossip and they will comment if she doesn’t go. Sami then asks for Aure since he is the one who should be taking her everywhere.
*Flor walks through the street with her best friends and family at her side as they go to the mortuary.
Ep 14, Part 4: Don’t Bad-Mouth a Dead Man…He Might Come Back
*In front of the mortuary, Octi reminds Father Elpidio that he needs to talk to Flor after the funeral. The ladies arrive and the funeral procession begins as the men carry the coffin down the street and into the church. Meanwhile, Octi’s goons try to break in to Flor’s house through one door while Cassy and Malba try to break in through another door.
*Once inside the church, Chile opens the casket to reveal a very nicely dressed Val. Meanwhile, Octi’s goons have entered Casa Flor as have Cassy and Malba. When they bump into each other, they shriek and wonder what each one is doing there.
*As Father El starts the mass, ValdeGhost is destroying his store because he is pissed that Val might be going on to the beyond, but then he spots the pendant on the floor (Chile must have dropped it) and smiles since he knows that Val isn’t quite finished yet. Back at the church, the priest asks if anyone would like to say some words; so Xotchitl stands and reads a letter she wrote thanking Val for coming into their lives. As she reads that this is a very sad day and that she is trying not to cry, Val’s ghost sits up and looks over the lid of the casket to see everyone there.
Thank you for your recap, Rgv Chick! Great title, too!
If Miranda wasn't blind, she and Vane probably would have had a traditional knock-down, drag-out, hair-pulling TelenovelaLand Catfight. We cannot have our heronina flailing blindly into space, giving Vanessa the advantage.
Lino's shirtless pushups were impressive. Thank you, writers. But it doesn't look like they are helping him forget Vanessa.
As for Viewerville's opinion, CATFIGHT 0, SHIRTLESS PUSHUPS 1
Will Susana give Marina some ketchup to polish the silver with? That should do a reeeally nice job on it.
" Su insists that she is continuing because she needs to salvage their fortune; " Salvage their fortune??? Seems more like --- leech off Los Ocaranza to me.
Oh noes!!! Zackrat heard Marina's convo that she and Beto are .... MARRIED. He must be saving that gem for Don Louse. That should go over well ... NOT!
Will someone puh-leeze (porfis!), push Doc Nut Job a/k/a Doc Mask under a bus, truck, or train soon?
Rgv Chick, I can't thank you enough for your fascinating, all encompassing recap. Superbly done.
"Chile cries as he tells Val that he is no longer there to protect him". For me, this relationship is the crux of story. Not a romantic one but one forged in friendship, a bonded pair who relied on each other when there was no one else. Who protected and supported each other as their lives progressed from childhood to adulthood.
It's been a while since I've been blindsided but nothing prepared me for "Marga slowly approaches him to give him a hug, they grab each other and start kissing frantically". Ummm, my first reaction is relief I didn't have to see that. The ice queen? Really?
"Rose knows how Flor feels---to lose the person she lost the most; but Rose is worse because she has to see the man she loves with another woman". Yes Rose, that is a valid and fair comparison. NOT.
"She paid for her crime". Hardly and has obviously not learned her lesson.
Flor is trying to process her grief while some try to add more. I am glad she made up with Itza though.
So Val arises. Looking forward to hearing what happens next.
Oh and OT, one of our local farms is coming to the aid of several pregnant Nigerian Dwarf goats. The pictures show them as so sweet. Of course I thought of you and your happy family...
I cannot thank you enough for recapping and sharing this fun story with us.
Diana
Thanks, Doris! I would have really liked to have seen a catfight, but, you're right, "We cannot have our heronina flailing blindly into space," that would have been cruel and thoughtless of the writers to do that. It seems that our heroina has a bit of an impulsive, confrontational side to her (Did she get that from Don L?), but then once she thinks things through, she is quite mature and sensible to the point of outshining Su and Vanesa.
I did enjoy those push-ups; too bad they didn't show a close-up (sigh), but I do concur with the score.
It did seem that Zackrat was close enough to listen in on the conversation, and I really thought he had, but when he talked to Doc, he told him he that he saw Marina and Dami from a distance. so I'm not so sure he did hear it. I would think that he would have run to Don L to tell him; or he would have told Doc Mask about it. (Shrug)
I'm in line to push Doc under the train! Oh and speaking of Doc, this may be trivial, but how did he figure that the place Tori referred to (when Tori told him that Marina was in a place where he wouldn't be allowed to go in) was the ranch? They have never shown that he has had problems entering the ranch and from what I saw, he was received without question.
You are so kind, Diana, thank you for always making my day with your eloquence--(re: Val and Chile) "this relationship is the crux of story. Not a romantic one but one forged in friendship, a bonded pair who relied on each other when there was no one else. Who protected and supported each other as their lives progressed from childhood to adulthood." Masterfully crafted!! And ITA....their relationship is very special. I don't think I've seen a TN where two men have such a close relationship...quite admirable!
Marga and Chile-- I wish I hadn't been a witness to that! They were like two dogs in heat that were unleashed (Eeewww!) ...and I laughed when she told him not kiss her on the mouth because then she would fall in love PUH-lease!
I really felt for Flor. How cruel of Cassy and Sami to go talk to her when she hadn't even buried her husband. I hope Val haunts them into a looney bin.
OT-Awww dwarf Nigerian goats are really cute. One of the feed stores in the area had some for sale. Oh how I would have loved to bring them home, but I was afraid the other goats would trample them (and I have too many BIG goats already!)...but I luv 'em all :-)
Thanks Ms Chick. Good recap. I'm glad To see marina standing her ground with Vanesa. Good for you marina. She can
Give as good as she gets. I wonder if she would have been that Stronge if she had been raised by her bio ma& pa?
A far cry from van-nesa,whose a whimp.
Made that way by her mom. But I have hope for that girl. In the future she
Gonna grow a pair and tell moma where to get off.
Speakin of moma "Su threatens, she'd better stay away from that peon or she'll make sure that he and his family are out of work".(you mean like
You are?)How long has it been since she's held down a job anyways?
"And she's going to show Marina what place she should have in that family, that of a chacha(Maid)". But Sudoo she
Would be taking potential future work
From you. Lol.
"Dami comments that Don L will love her Some day. Marina wonders if that day will ever come". You and me both sweetie. Maybe on his death bed. Just before the devil takes him.
"Vanessa should have known better since Marina wants to take pru's affection too". Poor vanesa, the only
Motherly affection she's gettin is from her not future husband's mom.Poor
Thing,that's why she's hangin on.
Sudoo is to busy trying Get her hands on beto's inheritance. Stipud sudoodoo
Thank you Rgv Chick
Great recap, Rgv chicklette. You must be done in by now, so I hope you have been getting some goat yoga to help you recover.
"Marina wonders what Lino wants to talk to her about; so he tells her that he would like to discuss his organic produce with her. He takes her to the orchard, but Marina knows that he didn’t bring her there to discuss the produce. Lino admits that he wants to talk about Vanesa..."
"... Vanesa paces angrily because Lino asked to see Marina just to get to her..." Shouldn't this TN have been set in a high school? :-)
Nina, you sound like you have grown fond of Vanesa. She might just turn out to be OK in the end.
andy
Thanks Rgv Chick. Been a bit out of it lately with a virus. The downside of adorable grandchildren is that they seem to be a petri dish of germs. Anyway, saw a bit of this yesterday and was delighted with the pushup scene. Reminded me of a great triceps dip scene with the actor now playing Don Louse. In his younger, slimmer days he was Juan Querendon and he did some fabulous triceps dips on a chair, wearing only his boxer shorts and cowboy boots. A memorable moment. The recapper and all the commenters were thrilled. Well okay, maybe only the gals.
I find myself fretting that Susana will find some way to accuse Marina of stealing the silverware. Amazing how we can stress over "just a story"!
Thanks for an excellent recap and all the wonderful work you do organizing the CarayCaray title page, sidebar etc. You're the best. Agree with Andy that you probably need some well-deserved Goat Yoga now.
Thanks, Nina, Andy and JudyB!
Nina, I do hope and look forward to the day that Vanesa stands up to her pompous, money-hungry mom. If she doesn't, I'm not going to feel sorry for her misery...she'll deserve it.
Andy, it does seem like Lino and Vanesa are acting like a couple of adolescents with raging hormones, doesn't it? All they pretty much do is ogle each other and, when Vanesa permits, kiss each other like there's no tomorrow. They show no interest in really getting to know each other...maybe if they did, they'd go their separate ways. With their personalities, I don't see how they could make it work....but then this is a TN, right?...where people change for the better (or worse) at the snap of a finger.
JudyB, I didn't watch Juan Querendon. I might look it up just to see the triceps :-) I was thinking that Su was just going to do something to have Marina mess up the silverware. It never occured to me, that she might be plotting to accuse Marina of stealing it. Good theory!
OT-Andy, goat yoga? Nah, no time for it, but I think I'll publish something about goat therapy. I do find spending time with my goats de-stressing and very relaxing :-)
JudyB, glad you are feeling better' hope you recover completely. "The downside of adorable grandchildren is that they seem to be a petri dish of germs." but it's worth it to spend time with them, isn't it? :-)
MIRADA and FLOR
RGV--Thank you for churning out consistently great recaps. I love settling down with a cuppa to enjoy your prose.
MIRADA
Judy, RGV--The minute I heard Susu mention "silver," my fertile mind went immediately to accusation of theft. It hasn't been used since El Hotel de los Secretos, but never mind. So how is it that Susu knew where the silver was kept? It wasn't even under lock and key. I fear poor Hortencia will be the second one blamed.
FLOR
While my sympathy is there for real people dealing with the death of loved ones, tns don't always get it right (see PASLII). FLOR got it right. I could feel everyone's anguish, sadness, desperation, indecisions, especially Flor's. Her dysfunctional family and friends came together in support in a very believable way. Cassy and Sami wanted to plunge the knife into Flor and then give it a twist. I wish them all the bad luck Itzi can conjur.
So, will Flor actually get to see Val's ghost? All the clips of the threesome show him in his real body. It will be interesting to see how they handle that.
Don't know about anyone else, but I keep associating Lino with Fernando Colunga (young). Not in exact looks, of course, but there's just a likeness there in mannerisms, understated acting--sincerity & realism, voice moderation, etc., etc. I hope he grows into a serious galan in the near future.
Judy - I thought Susu was planning to frame Miranda for stealing the silver until I read the recap and saw she was having miranda polish it. But, hey, there's still time to frame our protagonista, too.
Andy - ITA the whole VaneLino thing is like eighth grade drama. Or a bad reality show(?). They know nothing about each other, except their social class. Eh, true love in telenovelalandia, for sure.
GOAT YOGA
Our local news did a story in goat yoga a year ago. All I could think was "Are they house trained? Why aren't they wearing diapers when they walk on your back? Does one bring a change of clothes on case...?" I wouldn't want a goat weeing or worse on me. Would a goat even do that? Horses and cows don't care. Existential questions abound.
OT
Judy - Yes, our dear, sweet grandkids are roiling Petri dishes, for sure, and it's hard to not kiss and love on them anyway. LOL 😷🤧
Happy Cinco de Mayo, y'all! A couple in Sunday School with Mexican heritage (on his side) brought mini tacos, homemade guacamole, salsa and chips for refreshments today. Yum!!!
I am also celebrating because that was my first time to drive anywhere in five weeks. Baby steps!!!
Caraymates and Patio peeps, total hip replacement might not be as brutal as total knee replacement, but. It. Is. No. Picnic. Either. 😜
Do we believe Cassy that death got to Val first, naturally of a heart attack (according to the medicos) or did she actually get to use the poison that doesn't leave traces. Was it the poison that caused the heart attack? I guess we'll find out from Val himself--did he get something to drink with Cassy or not. It doesn't really matter in the end game, but I hate liars and we have a few running around loose there.
Oh, I though the scene where Octi and Sammi's sidekicks surprised each other looking for the lottery ticket was hilarious. Played well.
Enjoyed the Mirada comments and wish I could be watching with you.
doris, happy your first driving excursion went well. I think both hip and knee replacements are difficult. And painful.
I didn't see Juan Quendon either but years ago saw parts of Rubi, which was fantastic. He was so handsome. I also saw Antes muerta que Lichita where he was a villain and was fantastic there too.
Anita, thank you for asking how Val actually died - murder or natural causes. I was wondering also. Your lovely "While my sympathy is there for real people dealing with the death of loved ones, tns don't always get it right (see PASLII). FLOR got it right. I could feel everyone's anguish, sadness, desperation, indecisions, especially Flor's" conveyed the perfect degree of anguish.
Judy, hope you are feeling better!
Nina and andy, good to see you both.
Rgv Chick, there is one other male friendship that was very endearing that I can think of. Antes muerta que Lichita portrayed a brother from another mother friendship between two of the characters - Arath de la Torre and Pablo Valentin. They would feed each other and finish each other's sentences. The wonderful Ingrid Martz and Maite Perrori (along with Eduardo above) also starred. I hope you get to watch it sometime!
Diana
Sorry - Diana
Would probly be ok. She's not lookin, down her nose at poor peeps, her snobby moma is, she's
Just following her lead. But she
Does have a mind of her own, she know better. She's got a butt kickin for actin up but after she'll straighten up. Now if she wants to be with lino she better
Fly right cuz he will not put up with a snobby uptight chick.
"Just a Story"! ITA JudyB. I've been
Watchin "The Bold and the Beautiful", they just will not tell hope her baby
Was stolen and not dead. It is so Very
Frustrating. But ya know its gonna have a good ending. Hopefully before
Mother's day!
MIRADA
Now that you mention it, Anita, I can see some Fernando characteristics (such as the ones you listed) in Lino. He has that aire of self-assurance and determination that is very appealing.
FLOR
Anita and Diana, I'm pretty sure Cassy did indeed have something to do with Val's death; or at least she thinks she does. This is from the previous episode when she was talking to Malba--
Cassy is glad that Val is paying for every lie and everything else he did to her. Malba somewhat feels sorry for him, but Cassy has no remorse since she spent a year in jail and lost all that money. Cassy thinks that the best thing is that no one will know that THEY did it.
Now a real twist would be if it was actually Octi who did something at that party that he insisted Val go to. We have a mystery to solve!
OT-
Goat Yoga-- Doris, now, fer sure, I won't get into goat yoga. There is NO way I would be able to train my goats to "hold it" I won't mention how many times my shoes have been "watered."
Diana, "Antes Muerta Que Lichita" sounds interesting. I'll have to watch out for it; maybe they'll eventually show it in the morning...hopeoing...
Andy, the mind reader, you sly devil...hope you're not into blackmail :-)
Nina (re; Vanesa) "I think if she would get away from her Crazyass moma she
Would probly be ok. " DITTOOO!!!
Ot..judy, I know exactly what you mean about those adorable little germ carriers. I have been spending times with my two youngest grandgirls aged 1__and 6 ...both of whom have had coughs, sore throats, and runny noses. ...still can not resist the huge and kisses.
Glad you are here.
Diana
I just checked out our Lino (Emmanuel Orenday). He's actually been around in tns for 15 years, working his way up. I didn't watch El Senor de los Cielos or Senora Acero but he was in both of those. I was sure he was under 30 (like maybe 25-27) but my eyes popped out when I saw he is 34. Time for Lino to settle down, n'est-ce pas?
OT--Outlander. Can't wait. I'm plowing through Season 4, two a night on weekends. I'm glad Jamie has a better hair do for Season 5. That mop of hair falling into his eyes really bothered me. I also wish he were back in his kilts. He wore them well.
