How about our American heroes in France! Our women’s soccer team is definitely a source of pride to me.
REINA SUR 2 FROM WHENEVER IN BLAZES WE LAST SAW IT
- We see Epifanio on a stage with his rival for the Presidency, Mariano. He tells an audience that he can organize a seizure of Zurdo Villa’s palace. [Then a fantasy sequence of Zurdo taken into custody after Lencho and the guys are shot down.]
- Alejandro offers some general the job of Secretary of Defense. He tells him that Zurdo Villa will be in X Hotel in Room 804 tomorrow.
- Faustino proposes to Rocío. She does not accept, and his face falls.
- Teresa tells Oleg that, when she gets Sofía back, she’s going to the ends of the earth.
- Alejandro sends Kira on a mission, saying he doesn’t trust Lupo.
LA REINA DEL SUR 2 – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2
Zurdo shows off his clothes to Lencho, then fans himself with his coat, wondering if he put on too much cologne. He laughs at himself saying he feels like it’s the first time he’s going to be with una vieja. He wants Lencho to take some lana to Mariano, the candidate.
Now I wasn’t expecting this twist AT ALL! Searching through his desk Zurdo finds the note his wife showed him, and that he previously completely ignored. This is the note Sofía put in the bottle that miraculously arrived at the dock where his daughter, Renata, lives. Zurdo starts atando cabos (putting two and two together).
He remembers that Teresa’s daughter is named Sofía and that Teresa said she was hidden away in Europe. For some reason Lencho remembers the name Aljarafe, the surname she put on her note.
Lupo brings Sofía to a house in Culiacán. When she asks where they are, he tells her that this is where her mother arranged to pick her up. We then see Kira (Manuela) arrive on a motorcycle, presumably having followed them. She sees Sofía through the window of the house, using binoculars. She calls Alejandro to tell him she’s in place. [Yikes, they’ve put the eye makeup on her with a trowel!]
Oleg shows Teresa the setup. He’ll be next door to her suite. Ray has set up the usual computer things. He says he can track Zurdo’s calls from here. [Remember that Teresa put a device on his phone a couple of episodes ago.] Ray hears a call about Zurdo visiting his daughter. Teresa comes unglued, terrified that Renata will be at the ranch during the assault by the Mexican military. [This is how we can tell the good guys from the bad guys.] Oleg assures her Zurdo didn’t say Renata would be at the ranch.
On the dock near her house Renata tells her father about finding the bottle. She said she didn’t get the name Sofía, nor the phone number, from someone’s agenda. Zurdo asks his underlings for a boat, saying he’s going to search the area.
Rocío wakes up with Faustino. Looks like she might have the ring on her forefinger, instead of the usual place. The only purpose of this scene seems to be to show how pretty Rocío looks without makeup. Faustino kids that he went to bed with one woman (made up) and woke up to a different one.
Alejandro assures Epifanio in D.F. that everything is set up. They also know in Los Pinos (the presidential mansion). Ale has set up a press conference for 1:30 to announce the capture of Zurdo Villa.
Of course Zurdo finds the very house where Sofía stayed. He also climbs the stairs and finds Sofía’s diary. [Sometimes TN convenient coincidences cause my eyebrows to reach my hairline.] At first the diary is in Italian and Z can’t read it. But, of course, later on it’s in Spanish and he can tell that she was kidnapped. He goes on to read the part where Sofía says that her mother has been forced to do something so that she can be rescued. Zurdo, eyes blazing, says that Teresa has been lying to him.
Still putting things together, he remembers talking with Teresa about her working with the DEA. He tells Lencho to hurry to the ranch and get the hard drive from his computer system.
Teresa reminds Jonathan, who will be piloting the helicopter, not to fire it up before Zurdo has been captured. While drinking a shot of Kate del Castillo’s tequila Honor, Teresa notices a couple of francotiradores (sharpshooters) set up on the roof of a building across the street. She realizes Zurdo’s guys will case the area, and calls Epifanio. She tells him she’ll call Zurdo and cancel everything if those guys don’t leave.
I sort of hate Kira’s smug smirks. She is putting on a ski mask. However, Sofía has spied her from the window and accuses Lupo of not trusting her not to run away.
The sharpshooters barely leave before Zurdo’s guys arrive to scope out the hotel.
Lupo almost surprises Kira, but her reactions are quick. They have a long, mostly hand-to-hand fight. He finally gets the best of her and pulls off the ski mask. They know each other. She walks around him like a cat telling him she’s heard he’s fallen for Teresa. She tells him Alejandro wanted her there and, after a phone call, Lupo has to agree to let her run things.
Zurdo arrives at the hotel. He tells his guys that, if anything looks odd, shoot first and ask questions later.
Teresa spies one of Zurdo’s guys in the hallway and alerts Jonathan, who kills him before he can spot the helicopter.
Lencho arrives with two other guys at Zurdo’s ranch. He finds a lookout shack with a dead lookout inside. There’s a long, long firefight. [How I hate these; they actually bore me.] Anyway, Lencho, aka Rambo, manages to take out dozens of Mexican soldiers. One of them actually throws a grenade at Lencho. But later we see him crawling, presumably to get that hard drive.
Zurdo knocks and Teresa opens the door. She’s cool as a cucumber, smiling warmly at him, complimenting his outfit. She offers him a shot of tequila. He pauses with the caballito at his lips, wondering about drugs. But when he sees Teresa drink from the same bottle, he drinks from his.
Big Cliffhanger!!
Muchas gracias, novelera, for your excellent recap of an exciting episode. The episode presented one threat after another to Teresa's plan.
I think the reason that Lencho remembered the name "Aljarafe" is that Zurdo had done some investigating of Teresa early on, and among the things they found out was the stuff having to do with Teo Aljarafe. Zurdo asks Lencho whether he remembers the name of the guy they found out about, Teo someone-or-other, and Lencho comes up with Teo's last name.
I'm so glad you mentioned the tar that passed for Kira's eyeliner/eyeshadow!
I enjoyed Faustino's appreciating Rocio without makeup, and his saying that she's like two different people, and that he likes the idea of having two women at the same time.
Sofia's leaving her diary behind and Zurdo finding it gave my beanie fits.
Wow, that was some bloody gun battle at Zurdo's. I kept expecting Lencho to try to call Zurdo to warn him about this, but I guess he had all he could do just to stay alive.
novelera,, thanks. Your recap described all of the action to a tee. I always appreciate your asides.
novelera and Juanita, ITA about the eyeliner; just a “little” over done. Juanita, good comment about your beanie having fits. That was a little too much.
I always love the dichotomy of the gangster mentality: Zurdo blessing himself at the wall shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe at the lake house.
What a nail-biting episode from Zurdo so quickly putting it all together to Kira/Manuela appearing on the scene!
It was chilling when Teresa was worried about Renata getting caught up in it all at the ranch and Oleg reminded her that there were “bajas” (losses) in all wars. That made my ears perk up. It made me worry even more for Sofía with Kira on the prowl. I was disappointed that Lupo didn’t shoot first when he saw the masked “ intruder”. He should have Zurdo’s shoot first ask questions later philosophy. Why did LUPO kiss Kira on the lips? A commercial followed, so I had too much time to think about that and her previous rough sex romp with Jonathan . . . 🤔
Whoever the art director is has has created some beautifully eye catching scenes in this novela like those of the interior of the lake house and then those with Zurdo’s bright blue eyes and his blue jacket/green shirt inside and outside the lake house. Then there are Teresa’s bright yellow/green velvet pants and dark green shirt with the belt with some red that perfectly matches the fresh flowers at the hotel. Outstanding!
Teresa’s spidey sense better be in high gear from here on in. After she tells Zurdo how she likes well dressed men, he tells her he likes “women of their word.” Then he says she is “dressed to kill.” He is jittery. Then, of course, there is the stink eye, he is giving her that she doesn’t see. I don’t want to have to watch them alone in the same room for too long knowing Zurdo is in search of “the truth”.
I do confess that I enjoyed the shoot out at El Zurdo’s. It was very well done and realistic. Is Lencho still alive?
wonderful, wonderful, recap novelera!
and great comments Juanita and Jarifa!
yep, didn't see that coming, I'm finding the writing to be a bit choppy, but credit the actors for carrying the story, they are so good.
Sofia spots terminator Kira, Sofia 1, Lupo 0. (I keep waiting for Kira to pull out a long sniper rifle out of her little bag) Lupo promises her a bullet to the head if she alters the plan, she smiles.
Teresa's plan is way too simple, and it all depends on the narco slime she is dealing with all doing what they say, duh, and the pickup spot, why doesn't she have eyes there?
Zurdo's choice, to go up alone to meet Teresa, interesting, finishes his beer, smooths his hair, he's ready.
no one will ever miss the guy who went up on the roof, right?
the helicopters at the army/narco battles is a new thing with this show, how they rain down bullets killing all in the open is probably pretty realistic, I don't think Lencho will make it to the computer, looks stupid that he tried (they should have had someone on location with that job and the means to escape) question is, will Lencho be able to make the call to Zurdo.
Thanks, Novelera. Terrific recap. I watched without the Spanish captions on as I usually do because I knew you'd fill in what I missed.
After a week off, the show came back with a bang.
I'm thinking Kira and Lupo have hit the sheets in the past. He should realize she's there to take him out because they don't trust him. I hope he's just pretending with her.
Yes, Sofia leaving behind her diary is a big beanie moment. Zurdo checking out the note is not such a beanie moment to me because sometimes revelations do hit out of the blue.
I never had strong feelings for Lencho, but I didn't want him to get killed -- and never realized before how muscular he is.
How do we feel about Faustino's ring. It's huge, no? I need to take another look to see if it's tasteful or tacky. Yes, so sweet he likes Rocio without makeup. Ah.
Niecie, , the ring looked like a gaudy mess to me so I am voting tacky. Even if Rocío might want to accept his proposal, why would she want to wear that oversized spherical looking thing? Poor Faustino Godoy!
The ring: So, I remember the ring in the usual velvet box as being a normal sized engagement ring. But, yes, what she had on her, I think, forefinger, was huge!
I don't think it will happen. But I think Kira might have orders from Ale to kill all three: Lupo, Sofía and Teresa. Once Zurdo is captured and his empire brought down, why wouldn't Epifanio want them all dead. Or maybe Epi would honor his word but Ale has no moral compass at all. Epi already was quite worried about the child knowing who he was. And Sofía didn't help her case getting right up in his face.
Kira would love an order to kill Teresa, and I don't think she'd mind killing a child.
Wow, what great comments! I came here just to say that I'll be doing a short recap of tonight's episode. As usual, it will be posted quite late.
La Reina del Sur 2 - Martes - Parte 1 de 2
We see Zurdo sniff the tequila Teresa has given him and then drink it. She proposes a toast. He's clearly uncomfortable and she senses this. He shows her Sofia's diary. "Your daughter opened my eyes. How awful it must have been for your daughter since she was kidnapped." Teresa claims she doesn't know what he's talking about, but he's not buying this.
Meanwhile, soldiers are on the move at Zurdo's ranch. With guns drawn, they demand to know where the main computer is. When someone doesn't respond, they shoot him and shoot someone else who moved. This persuades others to tell the soldiers what they want to know.
The general calls Alejandro, and Ale tells Epifanio that the soldiers have got all the info about Zurdo's operation.
Zurdo pulls out a gun and continues his angry accusations "Why didn't you tell me your daugher had been kidnapped? What did you have to do in exchange for her freedom? What did I do to have you betray me?" His phone rings. Lencho calls to tell him that the army has raided the ranch, and that he escaped. Zurdo replies, "If they kill you, have a nice trip." Zurdo goes back to pointing his gun at Teresa's head. Oleg bursts into the room. He and Zurdo fight. Zurdo, on the floor, manages to reach his gun and shoot Oleg. Teresa tells Oleg to get up. He tells her to leave him and go rescue her daughter. He's clearly badly wounded. He finally convinces her that he can't go with her, and she leaves, one step ahead of the soldiers who are racing up the stairs to Zurdo's room. She shoots one man in her way and heads for the roof, where Jonathan and the helicopter are waiting to take her to Sofia.
The general and his men arrive at the room and find no one. He is told that there's a helicopter on the roof. They head for the roof. Teresa and Jonathan are about to take off when Zurdo appears, and as the helicopter rises Zurdo grabs on to the bar at the bottom and doesn't let go. The soldiers arrive to see the helicopter flying away with Zurdo still holding on to the bar. Teresa tries to get him to let go. He won't. He tells her, "I'm already dead, but you're coming with me." She tries dislodging his hand with her foot, but he grabs her foot and is about to pull them both to their death. Teresa reaches back into the helicopter, grabs onto Jonathan's extended hand, and manages to pull herself back inside. She then takes what looks like a fire extinguisher and sprays it at Zurdo. That causes him finally to let go and fall.
Alejandro is told about this latest development. Epifanio wants to know whether they got Zurdo or not. "Not yet," replies Ale.
Sofia and Lupo wait for Teresa. Lupo assures Sofia that her mother will arrive in five minutes.
Rocio and Faustino are in the car. Rocio at first looks either asleep or unhappy. Faustino asks her whether she's changed her mind. She suddenly moves in to give him a long kiss and assures him that no, she has not changed her mind. She just wants to say goodbye to everyone. She'll then call him in an hour and they'll go together to Colombia.
Teresa calls Epifanio and tells him that she pushed Zurdo from the helicopter. She doesn't know whether he's dead or alive, but either way, she has done her part. Epifanio is bothered by the possibility that Zurdo is dead, in which case he won't be able to make a public confession. Alejandro tells him that Teresa is right, it doesn't really matter. "If he's dead, we can say whatever we want. We can claim that he made a full confession before he died." He then turns to Epifanio and exclaims, "We won, Mr. President! We won!"
La Reina del Sur 2 - Martes - Parte 2 de 2
Teresa is upset about Oleg's death and worried that Epifanio et al. won't keep their word. Jonathan tells her that "the only thing we can't escape is death."
Lupo, aware that Manuela is waiting close by, tells Sofia that when the helicopter arrives, she should go out that door and run to her mother. Don't stop for anything. Sofia warns him not to let her mother see him. If she does, she'll kill him.
Alejandro calls Manuela and orders her to "execute Operation Trotsky." Manuela asks for the authorization password, and Ale recites it. Manuela looks very happy. Lupo comes out, and she tells him that she's going to kill the child and when Teresa comes she'll kill her as well. Lupo is upset. He calls Alejandro, who tells him that Operation Trotsky was always an option." We have to eliminate all witnesses who might testify against the next President of Mexico."
Lupo then tells Manuela that he'll kill Sofia. Manuela tells him no, he's spent too much time with her. Lupo says that's exactly the point. Sofia trusts him and won't suspect anything. Manuela reluctantly agrees, but she tells Lupo that after she kills Teresa, she'll come back to take a photo of Sofia's corpse. Lupo goes back into the house and finds a tearful Sofia, who asks him whether he's going to kill her. She tells him that she overheard his discussion with the woman. Lupo assures her he's not going to kill her, and that she should immediately go out the back way. "What about my mother?" He replies, "I'll save her. Now run!" Sofia insists on taking Tozzi, her cat, with her. Lupo protests that she won't be able to run while carrying Tozzi. "Tozzi comes with me!" replies Sofia. She gets the bag containing Tozzi, and off she goes.
The scene shifts to some kind of warehouse. Two guys come upon a body. It's not clear at first if the person is dead or alive. One of the two guys recognizes him: "¡No mames! It's Zurdo Villa! He built a school and a church in my town. My father used to work for him." They see that he's alive [my beanie just fell off], and they decide to bring him to Señora Macarena.
The helicopter approaches and Manuela starts shooting at it. Lupo comes out and tells her that Sofia had overheard their discussion and has escaped. Manuela tells him that he'd better find her or he'll be the third dead person. Lupo goes back inside the house and calls Teresa. He doesn't identify himself but simply says "Sofia has escaped and there's an order out to kill you." Manuela sees the helicopter move away and she gets on her motorcycle to pursue it.
Faustino, driving around very happy in the expectation that Rocio will soon call him, gets a call from someone else. We only hear his side of the call. He says, "What do you mean he fell from the sky? Yes, I'm close. I'm on my way."
Teresa and Jonathan try to spot Sofia from the helicopter. They succeed, then lose sight of her, then catch sight of her again. However, Manuela on her motorcycle has the chopper in view. She starts shooting at it. Teresa recognizes that this is the same person that was shooting at them before. She takes her gun and starts firing back. It's not clear that she hits Manuela, but the motorcycle seems to hit something in the road, goes airborne, and then crashes. Manuela is a bit shaken up but doesn't seem badly hurt, just very frustrated. The moto no longer seems usable. However, before the accident she did manage to do some substantial damage to the helicopter. Jonathan tells Teresa that he's going to have to land. Teresa sees one or two jeeps full of soldiers apparently looking for them. So of course here's where the episode ends.
Juanita, thanks for the outstanding recap! It was a pleasure to read this morning with my café as it captured all of the action of this exciting episode so well. You and me both with that flying beanie moment where Zurdo is found alive. So, after all if the money, planning, and machinations, Alejandro and Epifanio are now left with NADA in their hands and what will be, I suspect, a Zurdo on the road to revenge. Now that is funny but also depressing thinking all Teresa and Sofía went through for basically NADA.
Teresa was at her best in the helicopter when she finally dispatched Zurdo with the fire extinguisher. She should have killed him earlier when she had the chance.
I cannot wait for Teresa to wipe the sadistic smirk off of Manuela’s face. Lupo should have shot her when he had the chance rather than allow her to be able to track Sofía or attack Teresa. That was the second missed opportunity to kill a villain last night.
Do we know for sure that Oleg is dead?
So now, we have Sofía loose on the streets of Culiacán. Should be another good one tonight and I am happy I get to recap it!
Wow! What a thrilling episode and you captured it perfectly, Juanita! Thank you so much for the fine recap.
Actually, when Zurdo went through glass instead of landing on the building's surface, I was 98% sure he would live.
The scene in the hotel room between Zurdo and Teresa was SO well done by both actors. He, of course, kills people who betray him, but he was choked up and almost crying at Teresa's betrayal.
I hope, hope, hope that Oleg is not dead.
I never wanted anyone shot dead more in any fictional story than I wanted Kira to be dead on that motorcycle. But we have, what, 9 more episodes. It was too soon for her to be dead. Someone here called her The Terminator, and she's definitely that. She thought no more of killing a little girl than stepping on a bug in the street.
I find it odd that Rocío is so timid about her relationship with Faustino. She didn't even admit she spent the night with him. I feel like slapping Paloma upside the head when she is so judgmental toward Rocío. After the scumbag who impregnated her, she should button her lip about Faustino. [Can you tell I sort of have a sweet tooth for him?] Rocío has been so defiant of anyone trying to limit her behavior that it seemed out of character the way she behaved with the gang last night.
If there's anybody who can survive on the streets of Culiacán, it's Sofía. I don't expect a mother and child reunion tonight. [Crap, now I've got a Mother and Child Reunion by Paul Simon earworm that will last a while!]
great recap Juanita!
the helicopter was driving me nuts, first he couldn't take off (till Zurdo got there) then he couldn't fly with Zurdo hanging on, and I was disappointed to see Teresa give him the boot, err the heel, because Zurdo, as slimy as he is, never did anything but worship her. (I actually pictured a scenario where Teresa admits the setup but explains she included an escape for him and takes him with her)
yep, Teresa is burning all her bridges, and the people around her are dying.
and the General orders his guys to follow the helicopter on the ground (not enough money in the budget for 2 helicopters) so of course they end up where Sofia is.
interesting that the plan was to capture Zurdo alive so he could publicly confess, but Ale throws in that since he is dead they can say that he did confess.
it was hard to see but Lupo attached something to his phone before he called Teresa, I think it scrambled his voice.
ah, 14 more shows I think.
will everyone be dead by the gran final except Teresa(and Sofia) and terminator Manuela, locked in a fight to the death.
I watched most of the games, it was exciting, the U.S. were reigning champs from four years ago and everyone was gunning for them.
what was interesting to note, although men's futbol is popular in latin american countries, not so much for the women, I don't think their teams are so well supported or financed. When the tournament came down to 8 teams, except for the U.S., all of the other teams were European.
Many thanks, Jarifa, novelera, and deb, for your terrific comments!
Jarifa, I love your recaps, and I'm delighted that you'll be doing tonight's.
novelera, I'm so glad you called attention to the superb acting in the scene between Teresa and Zurdo in the hotel room. It was both exciting and deeply moving. Indeed, Zurdo has turned out to be an extraordinary, many-sided character. Kudos to the writers who created him.
deb, I hadn't noticed Lupo's attaching something to his phone before calling Teresa. That makes a lot of sense, since otherwise she might well have recognized his voice. Thanks for pointing this out. And I think you're right about there being 14 more episodes.
Thanks, Juanita. So much went on that I got brain freeze and couldn’t remember the last 15 minutes.
Surprised Oleg was done in by Zurdo. But maybe Oleg, realizing it would take too long for him to be helped into the helicopter for Teresa to escape, only faked close to death so she would hurry and leave.
How lucky for Zurdo to land in a village where his philanthropy made him a hero.
Rocio’s brain knows marrying Faustino is a bad idea, but her heart is saying otherwise. Like Faustino says, she’s got two sides, tough vampirita and no-makeup innocent.
I know it’s a beanie thought, but if Sonia is out on the streets alone I hope she runs into that feisty little street boy again.
Niecie, I'd like to see that adorable little boy again, but he's in Mexico City and Sofía is in Culiacán.
Deb, I read an article that stated that the European Men's Soccer clubs are so filthy rich that they had billions in the bank. They were strongly urged - can't remember by whom - to spread some of that money around to the various Women's National Teams. One of the beneficiaries of this was The Netherlands, whose team got all the way to the final.
In Mexico City. Vevita is concerned because Epifanio is about to give a press conference but is keeping the journalists waiting. She wants to know what his announcement is going to be. He tells her it is going to be a surprise. Alejandro arrives on the scene clearly upset and rudely throws his sister out so he can bring Epifanio up to date: El Zurdo is nowhere to be found dead or alive. They will have to cancel their announcement.
Back at the warehouse where Zurdo landed, we see the army troops led by General Rodríguez looking for El Zurdo. Threatening workers with a pistol to the head, he demands to know what happened. They tell him about the noise like an explosion they heard and that there was a guy who fell through the roof. Even though he could barely move, he walked out the door. There was no way they knew he was Zurdo Villa. The General tells his men to surround the place and cover the exits.
Godoy is on the road headed out of Culiacán with a white freezer in the back of a pick up truck. He is in a hurry.
Back in Culiacán, Manuela is limping around still searching for Sofía. Lupo catches up with her. He convinces her to look for Sofía separately on foot. Lupo reminds Manuela if they find Teresa they will get her mother, too. Jonathan and Teresa continue their search for Sofía. No, Teresa has no idea who gave the order to kill her and Sofía. Ray calls her from the club control room for an update. The whole crew is there. Teresa explains they set her up and that now they want to kill her and Sofía. Teresa needs reinforcements ASAP and informs them that Oleg is dead. She will be searching for Sofía. Ray says they will track her via her GPS.
Sofía keeps moving (still carrying Tozzi )as does Manuela in her pursuit and well as Lupo. Teresa recognizes Manuela down the street. She and Jonathan go running after her as Manuela disappears into a building. Tersa wonders why she is there. Jonathan says it is either because of her hatred for Teresa or because the DEA sent her. Teresa says she is alive because of the DEA and that Manuela’s presence doesn’t make sense. They need to find Sofía before she does. Lupo catches up to Sofía on the street. Manuela happily shoots at Sofía but misses and hits Lupo instead. Manuela comes down from the roof and starts shooting at Sofía who was trying to tend to Lupo. Sofía leaves Tozzi behind and jumps a fence and is out of there. Manuela starts to follow her but stops to see how bad Lupo is hurt.
Manuela looks at Lupo’s injury and basically tells him tough luck since they have a mission to complete. He begs her to get him to a hospital or some help. He feels he is bleeding out. She finally calls Alejandro for help. Alejandro says somebody from the army will come by for him. Manuela sees Teresa. Alejandro orders her to go get her. She does and leaves Lupo alone.
As Godoy is driving as fast as he can, he tells Zurdo to just hold on. He wonders how this all went down. As he weaves in and out of traffic on the highway, he is confronted with a major problem. There is a military roadblock ahead. He is going to have to pass though like everybody else who is in line waiting. Godoy does his best to use his Colombian charm and tells the officers that the freezer has some booze from Colombia for him and his buddies. He is ordered out of the truck. The vehicle is about to be searched when shots ring out. Zurdo’s men have infiltrated the roadblock and a firefight is under way. After it seems to be over, Godoy gets back in his truck but is quickly arrested by a serviceman.
Sofía comes back to tend to Lupo. He tells her to go. The army is coming for him.She insists that he come with her. She recovers Tozzi and they stumble back to his SUV.
Godoy tries to bribe his way out of the arrest but has no luck. Rodríguez has arrived on the scene. It is time to open the freezer and when they do, Zurdo is found alive. Rodríguez asks him if this is the best he could do and laughs. He announces Zurdo’s capture and asks to see his accomplice. He nexts announce that they have also captured the big wig drug boss from Colombia : Faustino Sánchez Godoy! He laughs as he says he got two birds with one stone. He tells his men to take them away.
Back in Mexico City, the press conference is still on hold and Vevita tells Epifanio that he has to go out and say something already. What to say? Alejandro gets a call that Zurdo has been captured. Now Epifanio has something to say to the journalists.
Sofía gets Lupo back to his vehicle. She wants to drive but he insists on driving himself so they do not draw the attention of the police.
Epifanio talks to the press. He announces that Nazario Beltrán alias Zurdo Villa has been captured and that he knows he will have some information that will change the direction of the presidential election.
Mariano Bravo (Epifanio’s competition) is angry and nervous about Zurdo’s arrest and how it will be goodbye to the presidency if Zurdo decides to talk.
Teresa and Jonathan search an abandoned house for Sofía. Teresa sees Manuela slip in and hides waiting for her. A gunfight ensues. Amidst a pause in the gunfire, Teresa demands to know what is going on. She had no problems with Manuela so what does she have to do with her daughter and her kidnappers? Where is Sofía? Manuela explains she doesn’t care if she lives or dies. Teresa was responsible for the loss of her mother and sister. If she kills Teresa, Teresa is going to know that she was oh so close to rescuing her daughter and then came up with nothing. Teresa accuses her of shooing Willy in the back and calls her a coward. Manuela sees that Jonathan has kept Teresa well informed. She wonders if they are partners or lovers. Teresa gets back on track demanding to know where her daughter is.
Lupo is having a hard time driving and keeping on the road as they head out of town. No they cannot go to a hospital or Sofía will be found.
Teresa says she knows she was following her daughter and stopped. Who did she give her to? Manuela says she doesn’t have any idea what is going on. Teresa heard gunshots. Manuela says there were several and since the first one didn’t kill her daughter, she had to keep on shooting until she killed her. Teresa had no idea how she was crying in the end. . . These comments are enough to push Teresa over the edge and the gunfight starts up again until Jonathan sneaks up on Manuela and puts a gun to her head. A huge fight results but Manuela escapes. Teresa’s reinforcements have arrived in the form of Ray and Ahmed. They convince her she has to leave that part of town because it is not safe. They also tell her that Zurdo is still alive and that they also arrested Godoy. Jonathan tells her if she gets arrested, it is all over.
Jonathan asks why she doesn’t call Epifanio. Teresa feels she cannot trust him. He is probably behind this whole thing. She was set up. She has been trapped. She is only concerned about finding her daughter, Jonathan says that part of town is crawling with the military. Her daughter most likely has found a place to hide and will call Teresa. They finally talk Teresa into going back to the club headquarters. Jonathan will go after Manuela because the military is not looking for him.
Rocío and Paloma go to tell Cayetana and Chari that there has been a change of plans. Nobody is leaving until Teresa gives the order. She explains how Sofía had escaped right before she was to be turned over. Cayetana is her witchy self. Claro asks if they have seen the news. She tells them that Epifanio was talking and there was a photo of that Colombian on TV. Rocío plays dumb and asks what Colombian? Cayetana informs her he is the same Colombian who is double her age and wants to be her novio. She can see Rocío going on conjugal visits at the jail. Rocío looks shocked.
Manuela is still searching on the street following the blood trail that Lupo left to where his SUV was parked.
Sofía and Lupo find a spot to hide in an empty factory. She clears off a table so he can lie down. He tells her they cannot keep the vehicle outside but he is unable to move it.
Teresa is back at headquarters. If she doesn’t get a call in two hours, she is going back out on the streets to find Sofía. She hopes she is doing all she taught her to hide really well.
Sofía drives the SUV into the factory just before a military patrol passes. Inside the factory, Lupo is in a bad way hallucinating and remembering about his having to fight in his childhood and having to kill up close and personal in the war. He remembers Sofía telling him he doesn’t have parents or children because he is a bad man. He remembers making love to Teresa. He is brought back to reality by Sofía patting his face and begging him not to die. He tells Sofía to dig out the bullet herself if she doesn’t want him to die. Will she dare to do it?
Back at headquarters, everyone is upset about Oleg’s death. Teresa still doesn’t understand how it all went to hell like it did. Oleg is dead, She doesn’t have her daughter. Zurdo wants her head and Godoy has been arrested. She blames Epifanio for betraying her one more time. She finally calls him.
Epifanio has been having a cheerful conversation with Alejandro talking about how Mariano Bravo must be cutting his wrists. They laugh as Alejandro says he will have Danilo assess the situation tomorrow. Epifanio’s numbers are bound to be going up., Epifanio gets Teresa’s call. She starts out be asking him where in the hell is her daughter. Epifanio truly has no idea what she is talking about. He puts the call on speaker so Alejandro can hear. Teresa accuses Epifanio of setting Manuela on them to kill her and her daughter. It must be because they have Zurdo now so she and her daughter are not worth a **** to them anymore. Epifanio really doesn’t know any Manuela. Teresa is nearing none of that. If her daughter doesn’t turn up safe and sound, tomorrow all of Mexico will know why she is back and everything he has made her do so he could be president. He dug up a demon and it will be very difficult to bury that demon again. Epifanio asks Alejandro now what? Alejandro doesn’t know.
In his hospital room under the watchful eyes of masked military guards, Zurdo remembers his fall. He sort of comes to and all he hears is his heart monitor and his own heartbeat accelerating.
FIN
What will it take for Epifanio to start having doubts about Alejandro?
I still do not know why Jonathan didn’t shoot Manuela in the head when he had a chance. He more than anyone else should know how strong she is. . .
Oh, no! Is a bullet removal on the horizon? It makes me think of the old westerns but no whiskey to take the edge off in this story.
wow Jarifa! you write such terrific recaps and I so totally appreciate the time and effort you put into them.
I think Lupo saw Manuela up on the roof with Sofia in her sights and jumped in front of the bullet, this guy is trying very hard to be redeemed.
Faustino's crazy get away with Zurdo in the freezer, what?, at one point you could see the yellow stripe in the center of the road meaning it was two way, but all the cars were coming at him, and I think the guys in the SUV behind him were his guys that always follow him around, wow, didn't expect for Zurdo to get captured, nor for Rocio's lips to be blue.
ah, so I think what Epi/Alex wanted is for Zurdo to confess to backing Mariano, hmm.
so Lupo loses it and swerves off the road, did they show a crash, when Sofia pulled the SUV inside, the front end was damaged like it hit a pole or tree.
so Alex tells Epi he knows no Manuela, nor what Teresa was talking about, showing us that other level where Epi is being played, but I assume Epi will be totally on board now with getting rid of Teresa and Sofia, and so far Lupo is still in the gray area for everyone.
What a fantastic recap, Jarifa! Reading it was just like watching the episode again. I even felt much of the same excitement. You did an amazing job!
And yes, I think we will have a bullet removal on the horizon. Lupo asked Sofia to take out the bullet. She's very reluctant, but he tells her "If you want to save me, take out the bullet," so I can't imagine that this immensely talented, gutsy, and caring young lady won't rise to the occasion, or at least try.
Such a fantastic recap, Jarifa! I really appreciate all the wonderful details. And, yes, they have us on the edges of our seats the whole time.
As deb already stated. Lupo deliberately took the bullet for Sofía. I also believe Sofía will step up and extract the bullet. I always get a kick out of the “fever” motif in TNs. Within a half hour of being shot, Lupo is running a fever. And then it appeared to go down for a moment. Sigh. They’re probably not going to give us the mother and child reunion until maybe the next to last episode.
Mariano said (to himself?) that, if Zurdo talks about their relationship, it’s all over for him.
I also wonder why Epifanio doesn’t seem to get that Alejandro is playing a much dirtier game than Epi could have dreamed of. I really believe he meant to keep his word about giving Teresa back her child and…bygones.
I can’t begin to imagine how this whole POTUS and DEA wanting Vargas to be president of Mexico is going to be explained.
And, yes, Jonathan should have just shot Manuela in the head. Every time we think she’s foiled, she’s not. So I guess Teresa’s bullets from the helicopter only caused her to dump the bike. She doesn’t seem to have a bullet wound. Really, really want a very bad end for she and for Alejandro. What about shipping them to Siso Pernas’ pig chopping factory?
Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments.
deb, yep, Zurdo in the freezer was a goofy twist. One would have thought Godoy would have come up with something better. The General was actually funny when he arrested them.
Juanita, ITA that Sofía will be up to getting the bullet out. This novela better have a happy ending. : )
novelera, I love your suggestion of the “Siso Perna pig chopping factory” experience as the end for Manuela and Alejandro. That would be so appropriate.
thanks Jarifa!
I think the two guys in the warehouse put Zurdo in that freezer to sneak him out.
yep, the bullet, don't you need a stick to put in the guys mouth along with the whiskey?
let me see if I got this right, in the beginning we learn that it was Epi's plan to find Teresa to take down Zurdo and I figured multi-talented Lupo was his guy that he brought in to help, then we find out Alex is a super agent of the DEA who sprung Epi from prison and is on a mission to get him elected Prez, using secret Manuela (who Epi knows nothing about) for his dirty tricks, but the way Lupo and Manuela were talking, operation Trotsky, passwords, missions, and all, it now seems like those two have been working together, so, is Lupo in on the DEA, or is he just working for Epi and being managed by Alex, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I can see Sofia willing to take a bullet for Lupo, to get Teresa to back off? (and don't mess with her cat)
Thanks, Jarifa. Your recap had as much energy as last night's episode.
Abuela has such a sharp tongue. I had to laugh at the way she told Rocio the bad news (told you so!) about Faustino.
What's with Manuela being concerned about Lupo? Her orders were to kill Sonia and then Lupo too and she seemed fine with that.
Niecie, the whole Manuela / Lupo connection is weird. She seemed to be willing to let him bleed out in the street. He had to beg for her to call for help.
One more vote for Siso Pernas' pig-choppipng factory as a fitting end for Manuela and Alejandro. Great idea, novelera!
