Juanita: Carolina knows Carlos is bad news from the get-go. I hope she can talk some sense to Bratty Sara.
I'm afraid Sara will end up in the morgue soon.
Unbelievable! I get to work today excited about our fast internet and finally being able to do some things NOT on a tablet. Entire area of south San Jose and Morgan Hill (the town where I work) completely w/o internet OR phones. We have something called Spectrum. Also Verizon out. Never found out what was the cause. At least I'm home early. Our entire business runs on the cloud so hard to work. Now, if my home computer hadn't died I could have driven home and worked on the cloud, butI don't have the app for that on my tablet!
thanks Juanita!
say, that hallway at the eagle's nest, with the Volkswagen beetle in it, wasn't that used in the "Falco" series?
Preso No. 1 - Jueves - Parte 1 de 2
Carmelo gets put in solitary confinement for two days. Vega tells him, "I run the show, not you and your friends."
We then get two flashbacks from the past interspersed. One is Salvador's wife's death, the other is Carolina's painful childbirth. Salvador is at his wife's bedside in the hospital as she dies. The doctor feels for a pulse, doesn't find one. Salvador is devastated. Carmelo shows Carolina the first of the twin girls. One more to go. Push! The next thing we see is Caro telling Carmelo that the second twin isn't crying. Too much time has gone by. The doctor says he's very sorry. Caro feels the baby's death is her fault.
In the present, Emanuel and Francisco come to see Carolina. She is very upset because Sara has disappeared. She looked for her at the University, called her friends. Nada. She feels that Emanuel and Francisco are hiding something from her. They give a "we're hiding something" look that they must have learned in Acting 101. She asks them what happened at the prison last night.
Carlos comes home and finds a note under his door from Sara. She loves him and doesn't care what her mother thinks. She doesn't want to lose him. Carlos crumples the note and looks unhappy.
Carlos calls his Bad Guy bosses. He tells them the note suggests that he'll have a second chance with Sara. "Let's take advantage of this," he tells them.
Sara is back at home. She claims she was at the library. She tells her mother, Emanuel, and Fransisco "I'm working on behalf of my father, and I'm going to use the SOB who tried to use me." They all try to dissuade her. What she's doing is very dangerous. She should NOT offer herself as bait. She tells them "we have to do something. It's my decision."
More flashbacks from 22 years ago. Caro is depressed about her twin daughter's death. "She died because of me." She doesn't want to nurse the daughter who has survived. Carmelo insists that Caro is in no way to blame for the baby's death. The baby wasn't strong enough to survive. He tells Caro that he's going to see about a proper burial. Caro asks that the baby be cremated.
Adonis Madrigal comes to the wake for Sara (Salvador's wife). He briefly expresses his condolences to Salvador and then says he's going back home to announce the Mexico 2025 Pipeline Project. When Salvador doesn't say much, Madrigal tells him "I'm giving you an exclusive. You could send a reporter, put an article about the pipeline...." Salvador interrupts him to remind him that his wife has just died and he is grieving. He tells Madrigal to leave. [Apparently 22 years ago Madrigal was just as clueless and insensitive as he is in the present.]
Carmelo comes to the wake. Salvador congratulates him and asks how Caro and the girls are doing. Carmelo says they're fine. He doesn't mention the death of one twin, nor Carolina's depression.
Back in the present, Vega comes to take Carmelo from solitary back to his regular cell. He asks Carmelo why he doesn't want a transfer. Carmelo says he's happy here. All he'd like is a shower. At the shower, he asks the guard for some privacy. The guard moves away. Carmelo then pokes around on the floor of the shower and finds what may be the start of the tunnel he's looking for. He drops his towel over the place to hide it from the guard, who has returned. Carmelo says he dropped his towel, which is now all wet, and asks for another one. The guard leaves, Amador (the good guard) comes, and Carmelo shows him what he's found.
Preso No. 1 - Jueves - Parte 2 de 2
Carolina comes to see the security guy and asks how the woman who was shot is. She's not doing well. Caro wants to call a doctor. The security guy says no. Caro takes out her phone and starts to call. The guy points a gun at her head and shouts NO! She slaps him! He tells her not to slap a guy who has a gun to her head. The guy might fire out of instinct. [Is the point of this scene to show (again) how foolishly stubborn Caro can be?]
The bad guys watch the video of Watermelon Man/Carlos having sex. One of them says that Carlos slept with Virginia too. The appeal must be his accent. The guys plan to send the video of Carlos having sex with Sara to Carolina and to Carmelo.
Francisco visits Carmelo and tells him he's going to arrange for Carmelo's transfer. Carmelo gets very upset. "No! No! Not now! Do you understand?" "No." "No?"
We then have a flashback of Francisco as a young lawyer who works for Salvador's newspaper. He comes to see Caro to get her to sign some documents so that she'll have medical insurance paid for by the newspaper. He keeps referring to "the girls." She finally tells him "It's one girl. The other one died." Francisco is deeply moved and hugs her. [We may see here the start of the relationship between Francisco and Caro.]
Carmelo comes to the wake. Salvador embraces him. He heard about the twin's death from Francisco and asks Carmelo why he didn't tell him. Carmelo explains that he couldn't give him bad news when he was in the midst of his own grief. They hug; Carmelo is close to tears.
Emanuel comes to the wake with Lola Cantu. Lola tells Carmelo that the photo of him submitted to the TV show was a winner. Carmelo is puzzled.
Carmelo returns home and finds a young man asleep on the couch. Caro explains that he's Francisco, a lawyer from the newspaper, he's a good person, and he's come about medical insurance. Francisco wakes up, introduces himself to Carmelo, and says the paper wants to arrange for medical insurance for him and his wife. Caro says that Carmelo and she aren't married. Carmelo asks whether that will be a problem for the insurance. Francisco assures him that he'll take care of it.
After Francisco leaves, Carmelo asks Caro whether she sent his photo to the TV station. She says she did. I didn't follow everything he said, but I think he felt he'd prefer to work with Claudio and Gina, and he'd be able to go to school at the same time. He reminds Caro that she told him that if he doesn't finish high school, they won't marry. Caro's mood has apparently improved. She apologizes to Carmelo for being rude to him, and she tells him that she wants to see the baby. She also asks what has been done about the other twin. Carmelo informs her that she was cremated, yesterday. He was told that because the body was so small, the process would be quick. Both of them cry.
Someone approaches Colonel Mayorga about the Mexico 2050 Pipeline, which Carmelo had blocked. They're thinking of moving ahead with it now. Would Colonel Mayorga support this? "If the price is right."
Carmelo is back in his cell. His buddy Toño asks why Carmelo's cell is locked, while Toño's is open. He asks Carmelo whether Amador betrayed them. Carmelo doesn't think so.
Evodio/Voyo/Goyo/Cyclops and Tinajas are shouting accusations at each other in the presence of Vega and another guard. Tinajas continues to be suspicous of Cyclops and his relationship to Carmelo. Cyclops comes after him. Just where this is going isn't clear, nor why the episode ends on this, but it does.
Juanita: Loved your detailed in-depth recap.
My personal thoughts:
1.) Sara is still damn STUPID. Doesn't she realize Carlos is using her ?
2.) Seems like everybody is conspiring against Carmelo.
3.) I don't think the female security girl will make it alive.
4.) Loved the flashbacks.
5.) Madrigal is full of SHIT.
6.) Mexico 2050 pipeline is another scheme to loot the country of more $$$$$.
7.) Looks like the villains will keep WINNING for awhile.
8.) Carolina very brave standing up against the dude with the gun pointed at her.
9.) Francisco arranging to move Carmelo to another prison ? What could possibly go wrong ?
10.) Nice backstory on the twins.
11.) Sara still STUPID.
12.) Hoping the Good Guys have backup & friends.
Thanks, Steve, for your comments. Sara remains something of a mystery to me. After last night's episode, I'm unsure what's most important to her. Certainly the note she left for Carlos made me think she still thinks she's in love with him. But her forceful statement after she returned home, where she claims she's working to help her father and intends "to use the SOB who tried to use me," seemed rather convincing. I guess the episodes to come will make her true motives clearer.
wonderful recap Juanita!
one Sara dies while another is born.
love the "we're hiding something" look the boys gave Caro, they did explain Carmelo's not wanting a transfer because he met someone in prison, but they didn't say who.
also when Francisco insisted on getting him out of that prison, Carmelo fired him. (he doesn't know about the tunnel)
Caro blames herself for the death of the twin because she insisted on a natural childbirth where a C section would have saved her.
also when Carmelo jumps on Caro for sending his pic to the tv station for that contest without telling him, she counters with, he wasn't there at the time.
I think that was Pedro that was bantering with Mayorga, in a web search there are various proposals to build pipelines from the U.S. to Mexico, which would be to the U.S. advantage.
Juanita, I feel guilty throwing in these little details, it's just that I watch with english caps that allows me to catch them.
interesting that Carmelo shows Amador the tunnel, now he is being kept locked in his cell.
when Caro stormed into the eagle's nest to check on the shot girl, it looked like she was in control, but when a gun to the head stopped her from making the call we are back to, who are these people?
a woman scorned, yep, Sara is going after watermelon Joe.
and who is the Stroke guy, that seems to be in charge, and enjoying the watermelon porn videos?
this show is turning out to be pretty good, lots of depth, not a prison story like I thought.
Juanita, thank you very much! There was a lot of “Acting 101” last night.
Just when I think I’m sorting it out, I’m confused all over again.
deb, I was about to post but saw yours pop up first. You covered most of my observations and asked the same questions! Yes, yes, yes, Who are all these people?!?
The evil business cartel: Carlos/Joe is the best the White House has? Was the White House emissary, who has now washed his hands, the American who was always in on their meetings? Now the Mexicans are on their own?
Sara is way in over her head. Stubbornness and running head on into danger is the Alvarado/ Arteaga family trait. The younger daughter hasn't caught it yet.
Francisco and Emanuel have to remind Caro she’s the ex-wife. BTW, what happened to the current wife? She spoke with Carmelo about divorce and….did she fall off the face of the earth? What a waste of Angelica Celaya.
dondi356
thanks dondi, you always have such good comments!
and mr. Eagle pulled a bookcase or something over the entrance to his surveilance cave before he let Caro in.
I was trying to spot the current mrs. Carmelo at the wake thinking he would meet her there, as Caro was meeting Francisco, alas but it was only Pia, but wait Caro and Carmelo can't separate, they aren't married yet.
Muchas gracias, deb and dondi356, for your terrific, helpful comments.
deb, please don't apologize for adding all the great details and explanations. They're wonderful, and what I hope for in writing recaps. I think of recaps as a collective effort. And I don't think it's the English captions that give rise to your insightful comments, but rather your very impressive eye and mind.
dondi356, I loved your saying "just when I think I'm sorting it out, I'm confused all over again." I feel the same way. And you're so right, stubbornness and running into danger is a trait both Caro and Carmelo share in spades (as does Ramses). So what's surprising is not that Sara has inherited a double dose of the family trait, but that younger daughter Isabel hasn't shown signs of it.
Terrific recap, Juanita. I enjoyed it! Because the office was basically doing nothing yesterday because of epic internet fail, I'm pretty swamped today with no time to write much.
Great comments all. Absolutely enjoying the past more than the future in Carmelo's life story.
Novelera: I'm thinking the bigger the conspiracy, the more deadlier these conspirators will get.
Sounds like this is somewhat based on the downfall of Korean President Park Geun-hye or the coup d'etat against Chilean President Salvador Allende.
Some highlights from Friday night.
Voyo kills Tinajas. He did it for you, Carmelo. Voyo also gives notice to Vega.
14 years ago: Finally, the wedding of Caro and Carmelo. A not so happy occasion. Jealousy is the theme. Francisco declares his love once again to Caro. Emanuel shows up with his new girl, Rita Franco. Rita makes a play for Carmelo (he tries to resist) and Caro catches them.
Also at the wedding, Gina flirts with Chinta and she doesn’t seem to mind. Later, Carmelo calls Gina on it and says my sister is not like you! Chinta walks in on this. I remember Chinta waving a pride flag at the rally for Carmelo. Was Gina with her, too?
Caro finds a flash drive hidden in a doll Virginia gave to the girls for “safekeeping”. Virginia: if you are watching I’m probably dead. Please forgive me. I love and always will love Carmelo. I’d give my life for him. Not sure if we heard the whole message, though. Isabel replays the video later when she’s alone.
3 years ago: we see Carmelo meet Virginia as a guest on his TV show. Caro is turning green, watching from the wings. She can’t take it anymore.
Sara talks with Francisco and Emanuel. She finds out that Carlos was also with Virginia. She’s determined to get that bastard!
Carlos contacts Sara.
Pedro is trying to reach the president but the president refuses all his calls. He asks the cop that killed Virginia (I think) if he would be willing to make an attempt on the president.
Word is Ramses is coming soon. Amador and Carmelo continue to plan an escape. Carmelo does not want to leave without Voyo.
Ramses arrives at the prison.
dondi356
Wow, dondi356, what a superb recap! It's very concise but covers everything important. Many thanks!!
Here are a few details I can add, along with some questions:
At the very start, scenes from the past episode merge seamlessly into tonight's. In particular, when Carmelo tells Caro that the dead baby was cremated, we now see that Caro gets painfully out of bed to come into the next room to comfort Carmelo. I think this puts her in a better light than did the previous episode.
I was somewhat surprised that Cyclops/Voyo/Tuerto was able to beat Tinajas in a fight. Not just beat him, kill him. And, as you say, he also warns Vega that he, Tuerto, is the boss (or something like that).
I found it somewhat amusing that, at Carmelo and Caro's wedding, Salvador was proclaiming how much they love each other just as the bride and groom are having a fairly nasty fight.
I too was wondering whether the flash drive that Virginia hid in a doll she gave to Isabel contained more than just Virginia's declaration of love for Carmelo and her apology to Carolina and the girls. I was hoping that when Isabel watched it again, we'd see more, but we didn't. OTOH, I think we did see that in addition to the flash drive, there were lots of documents--I'm not sure where they came from, and even whether the scene was in the present. It was documents relating to finances, I think, that people were hoping Virginia would testify about, and presumably she was killed to prevent her from doing so.
Who sent the box with the dolls? I heard something that suggested it came from the president's office. Does that mean that Benito (the ex-procurador) is now president?
I guess that would also explain why Pedro Islas is unable to communicate with the president.
When Caro is upset watching Carmelo and Virginia, she's got good reason for her jealousy. Unlike the episode at the wedding, where Rita was the aggressor and Carmelo was telling her he's not interested, in the scene with Virginia, Carmelo is definitely coming on to her.
Sara's finding out that Carlos also probably slept with Virginia helps me decide that she's on Carmelo's side against Carlos, and that the note she left for Carlos under his door was probably part of her scheme. Until now, I wasn't sure.
So Tuerto says that he lost an eye working with Ramses. I had wondered whether the patch over the eye was mostly to make him seem more dangerous.
amazing recap Dondi! don't know how you do it.
last night was show #9 and I feel like we have gone through a whole novelo and I was screaming at the tv, no, no, no more new characters, I couldn't even remember who Rita Franco was and didn't recognize Chinta.
ok, young Carmelo's show is hosted by Marta (do we know her) who I think is going with Emanuel (and who is he again other than the guy boinking Carmelo's leftovers) but wait, Emanuel is now dating Rita and Rita is the new host for the show, and Marta? well she is still here, and... no one really spills.
so you will be seeing her everyday, Caro asks.
anyway, Emanuel talks about teaching political classes, Carmelo asks if he can take one.
there is a guy giving an interview (governor/president) with Pia about the gas line, ah we see the concern is that the roads, ports, etc, will also be used by the narcos, Pia asks about senora Felo.
Felo is getting ripped by Pedro for not keeping him in line, he promises her and him some real estate in the capital city, also known as a tomb.
Hugo Piña is the dirty cop and in this one is Pedro's driver, he is also a, if the price is right, kind of guy.
ok so it appears that present day Carmelo is being kept locked up because Vega has his hands full with Tuerto and Tinajas, I wonder why Vega doesn't break up their fight, and we learn that they are his boss, and now only Tuerto is.
Carmelo "suspects" the tunnel but wants a better look, when Ramses is processed everyone will be locked in, I think Amador wants to do it then, there is the thing that the tunnel may be blocked at the other end, I think Amador wants Carmelo to go for it if he can, but Carmelo doesn't want to leave his brother.
when Tuerto spills on killing Tinajas, Carmelo does too about killing the three guys waiting for Concho to return, later Tono refers to Tuerto as a killer.
oh and earlier, I think Francisco and Emanuel know about Carmelo trying to escape and write off Carmelo firing Francisco so that he wouldn't be connected in any way.
great comments Juanita, I too was wondering if Virginia's thumb drive might contain the proof that would set Carmelo free.
and yes, there was that scene when Francisco, Emanuel, and Caro were talking about a bank account that is still open, and the banks are owned by Islas group ?? (Pedro's last name) and...
ah, so Isabel comes upon her mom ripping the heads of her dolls, I'll bet living with Caro is a real trip.
Thanks Juanita and deb for your kind words and great details. I don’t have the master recapper skills the rest of you have. I’m just glad I could get things started.
You are so right deb, only #9 and there’s so much that's happened. We are really watching two novelas combined into one. It's not easy to do this effectively. The combination of constant time travel and different actors for the past and present adds to the confusion. I think most of us prefer the backstory. And yes, we don’t need any new characters but I’m assuming that several will be killed off as we roll along.
dondi356
Juanita: Good Job on the recap.
1.) Did I just see Gina flirting with Chinita ? Hmmm. That girl is very frisky with everybody LOL.
2.) I see that Carmelo was cheating on Carolina. Virginia was one tricky expletive.
3.) I don't like that Francisco fellow. He's sneaky & got ulterior motives!
