Mañana
9/30 Epi #18, Part 1 of 4 – So Far, All We’ve Heard is a Lot of Talk

1. Cam is still smoking and fantasizing—bah! At least it wasn’t a smokin’ fantasy.

2. Di is giving Barbie some sage advice regarding marriage. All marriages have their ups and downs. It doesn't mean they are a failure. She tells Barbie to give Mau time. It’ll all work out.

3. There’s some clean-up going on in the yard. Rafa runs into Mau and compliments him on the financial report—big smile. Rafa heads in to see Camilo, Regie heads in. Nobody else around. Mau turns and sees Paloma, stretched out like a fish on a plank, ready to be grilled—bah! The sax starts wailing and Paloma pretends to protest, but coyly says that a kiss is like a glass of water, no one refuses a glass of water. Then their lips get closer—and the shuttle has docked with the space station. Nico, in his flying cape catches them in flagrante besicto. The little dickens just added another notch to his blackmailing belt. Mau tries to explain that he was merely consoling Paloma. She was so sad. Nico doesn’t fool easily.

(Oh, bring back Pablo, please—he’s the most NORMAL of the bunch and easy on the eyes.)

4. Rafa comes into Cam’s home office. He’s not sure if in difficult times Cam wants to talk or be left alone. Cam says he’s not so complicated. Rafa wonders why he had so many children. Cam says it didn't start out that way. Then he fills Rafa in on some background. Cam extols the sweetness of holding his first born in his arms and he was lost. Rafa calls him his papá. Cam is pleased and they have a familial hug.

5. Regie comes back to her room to find Di doing the picking up. She asks if the baby daddy hurt her. No, she insists. Regie is firm about two things. She’s going to live with the Gonzalez and they are going to raise her baby. Di puts up objections. Regie says there’s no peace in this house. There’s nothing but uproar, chaos, crowds. Di puts her foot down. As long as Regie is a minor she will deny her permission to move. And if Regie should run away? Di says she’ll sic the cops on her. (Way to go Diana!)

6. Now it’s Cris and Cam’s turn to talk, talk, talk. Cam says he’s not alone. Familial hug.

7. Xi brings Moni some tea to make her feel better. Moni doesn’t see how that’s going to help. For 20 years her life has been predictable and she, in control. Now everything is falling apart. Xi uses some soccer analogy to try to show her who has the ball. She’s sure Cam is interested, but instructs Moni NOT to declare her feelings to Cam. Let him be the one to take the first step.

8. Now it’s Barbi’s turn to talk to Cam. It’s about Rafa. She wants to know if Cam is sure Rafa is his son. He might be someone trying to take advantage of him. Cam mulls it over a bit and says why would he (...or why wouldn’t he...)? He tells her he had decided to get a DNA test after things with Diana and her diagnosis calm down.

Mañana
9/30 Epi #18, Part 2 of 4 – So Far, All We’ve Heard is a Lot of Talk

9. Di decides to spend the night with Cris in his single bed. (IMHO, he’s too old to have his mother sleep with him. Talk, cuddle, ok, then leave the room.) Camilo brings Cris a glass of milk and sees Di sleeping, kinda propped up in bed. He sits down next to her (where, IMHO, she should have been) and talks to her. She hears him tell her how much he loves her and how hard it is to be distanced from her. (We know that even though to make sure we get it, she opens her eyes after he leaves.)

10. THE NEXT DAY – A new outfit with lots of orange, but not quite so bright. Ah, I get it, The Sun is Up! Di seems to be in a sunny mood, until Dr. Juan calls. He sends the clouds of doom over her by making it sound as though the results are in with a terrible diagnosis. She must come in right away.

11. Cam arrives at the office. Moni is there to greet him, but not in her usual cheerful way. There’s definitely a frost in the air. Rafa, ever the chipper one in the family, arrives to melt the frost. Moni starts to leave and he leans over and whispers conspiratorially that he’s glad she’s still with them. Now to the business at hand. Rafa suggests that he and Mau share an office, ostensibly so he can learn the ropes faster. Cam says there’s no problem, as long as Mau is ok with it. (Ruh Roh) Rafa mentions how nice it is Moni is still with them. Cam says yes, she’s an important piece...a piece, questions Rafa. Cam corrects himself, person, in the running of the office.

12. Meanwhile, Luis surprises Nora at her desk. He hangs around long enough to get a photo of her, holding up his cell phone, pretending to be searching for a signal. He leaves. He doesn’t fool Nora. She’s pleased.

13. Laura is doing housework at the Airbnb, aka Cam and Di’s place. Di bursts in. She makes Laura drop everything and accompany her.

14. Moni is back in Cam’s office. My it’s frosty in there. It’s so frosty, icicles are forming. He tells Moni to cancel everything for the following week—except the tickets to NYC. He plans to go by himself. He needs to be—ALONE. Moni gulps. He says he wishes things could go back to the way they were before Di was diagnosed with cancer. Laura interrupts calling to tell him the results are in.

15. Nico shares some sweets with a darling little girl on the playground equipment while they eat lunch, but he pushes her away when she wants to thank him with a kiss. (Why was this scene necessary, except that Nico steals every scene he's in and Sr. Moreno already knows he's got a dud on his hands.)

16. Rafa comes in to tell Mau about the new office rearrangement. Rafa thinks it’s a good idea and shows Mau how they’ll both fit. Mau, on the other hand, is fit to be tied. (According to Grammarist, the term goes back to the 1800s when it was used to describe controlling mental patients by tying them up—grim.)

17. Dr. Juan gives Di the good news—the cancer is localized, but she will need surgery, urgently, like the day after tomorrow. To Di, this is all BAD news. (I think he may have told her they won’t know about the lymph nodes until the surgery. At least that’s what my dear friend had to go through. He tells her she will need more tests. She’s stressed, no doubt about it.

Mañana
9/30 Epi #18, Part 3 of 4 – So Far, All We’ve Heard is a Lot of Talk

18. Adrián, Eugenie and Maggie spy on Regie’s school and point out the supposed baby daddy Eugie saw Regie with. They grab the hooded guy. Oops, it’s not a Robert, it’s a Roberta. Regie catches them and is furious with all of them. They all claim to have her well being in mind. Adrián suggests that it would all be resolved easily if she would just tell them who the baby daddy is. Regie announces, to their surprise, that no one in the whole school knows she’s pregnant. She’s afraid if she tells the spy team, the whole world will soon know. It’s three against one, so she gives in. She’ll spill the sperm, er, beans. They head inside the school building and she asks at a classroom door if El Gato is available. A drop dead handsome son of a gun, wearing very academic glasses appears. Eugie nearly swoons with pleasure. Regie asks him for El Killer’s address. She tells the spies El Gato is not the baby daddy and off they go and end up on a city sidewalk, outside a tattoo/piercing parlor. She’s ready to go in, but Eugie grabs her and they leave, heading home. Eugie hopes this wasn’t another one of Regie’s tricks. No, El Killer is the baby daddy. She does not love him. Maggie suggests they leave El Killer out of their deliberations. Regie turns to Eugie and says sorry, abue, that things don’t always work out the way abue would like.

19. PABLO SIGHTING—Yay! He has a new group of lovelies for another focus group. He disappears into a room with the young women. Nora is watching them through the glass partition. Meanwhile, Cam comes hurrying down the hall on his way out, pursued by Monica and then Rafa. Mau tries to head him off at the pass. Cam yells, not now to all of them and storms out. Moni explains to them, now including a nice close-up of Pablo, that Di will need surgery the day after tomorrow.

[Right about here, Comcast gives us a local commercial about the Smile Dental Center. I only mention this because it reminded me of Pablo and his lipstick focus group. All the female dental assistants featured, clearly an ethnically diverse group, are all wearing the same dark lipstick color. It was kind of funny, once I noticed it.]

20. Barbi chats up Chabala. She mentions that it’s Cam and Di’s 25th anniversary the next day and she wants to plan a party (and what could go wrong with that...or should I say, and whatever could go right with that). Ah, she’s just had a fabulous idea.

21. Rafa sees Xi approaching outside the offices on the sunshiny ramp where just a day or two ago he gave Moni her big smooch. She tells him she’s not looking for Moni, she's in a bit of a mood right now. She’s really looking for a pleasant lunching companion. Rafa says he’s at her beck and call. Mau has been watching and decides to follow them. In the restaurant, the two are having a fabulous time, laughing, talking, eating, while Mau sits alone, unseen, fuming. Then he leaves.

22. Cam finds Di at home and comes up to nuzzle her. They talk about her treatment. Di says she’s on it like glue on your best carpet. Cam wants to know what his role is. She says, essentially, none—lets’ let things proceed as the have. Cam is shut out, shut off and shut down. (This will certainly make for a lively surprise 25th anniversary party.)

Mañana
9/30 Epi #18, Part 4 of 4 – So Far, All We’ve Heard is a Lot of Talk

23. The three kids have been waiting for Regie up in her bedroom. Barbi announces that she’s planned a big fiesta for their parents' anniversary. Regie doesn’t think this is the time for a big fiesta. She’s voted down. Cris volunteers to be in charge of the music. Barbi points to Regie and tells her she’s to do a video with the best moments of Cam and Di’s relationship. There are plenty of photos available. Ok, clap, clap, get to work everybody.

24. Di and Moni meet outside the office. She tells Moni that since she might die during the surgery, there are beaucoup things she needs to tell her about each of her children. Moni is not to happy at the prospect—either of Di dying or having to know stuff about the kids. Di insists. She’s to come to the house the next day.

25. Inside the office, Luis is moving furniture and files. Mau tries to stop him. Luis carries on. He follows orders of the son of the head of the company, until Mau shows him otherwise. For now, Rafa is the son of the head of the company, while Mau is the not-yet SIL. Mau is, for the moment, speechless.

26. Mau snags Moni and asks about the girl Moni lives with, what’s her name? Moni divulges her name, but wonders why. No reason is given. Mau walks off. He definitely must talk to her (about Rafa, of course.

27. Moni reviews in her head, all the best moments where Cam showed any personal interest in her at all. She ends her mind-video by hearing him say how much he loves his wife and children.

28. Mau picks up the DNA report he submitted with samples from Cam and Rafa. He can’t wait to open it and does so, right then and there. The look he gives the Patio is sphinx-like. We cannot determine whether this is an “aha, I thought he was a con artist” or “damn, he really is Cam’s son.” The answer, my friends, is blowing on the airwaves (or cable) and may not reach us until tomorrow, sometime next week, or, if Mau prefers, for as long as he pleases. Mañana

I'm quite aware Dragon starts in a couple of hours. I've been annoyed by the countdown on the screen. It won't hurt my feelings at all if nobody posts any comments for a day or so. I completed my assignment, with love.

Great recap ANITA. Better than this miserable episode deserved, not to mention this miserable telenovela. But onwards.

"Nobody else around. Mau turns and sees Paloma, stretched out like a fish on a plank, ready to be grilled—bah! The sax starts wailing and Paloma pretends to protest, but coyly says that a kiss is like a glass of water, no one refuses a glass of water."

Well, hope that Andy enjoyed that scene. You certainly described it with flair, amiga mia! Well done.

Also laughed at your reference to the Sarmiento family home as an Airbnb as well as "Rafa shows Mau how they'll fit....Mau is fit to be tied.

Clever wordplay for a very unclever story.

Plus I'm like REALLY!!!????? that a mother would climb in a twin bed with her well past puberty son to spend the night. Are our cultural differences really that great? Just. No. Not. Appropriate. Ever.

And the continued pushing away of Camilo and manipulating of Monica is just stupid and crazy making. Was the original story this stupid!? Whatever executive gave this the green light should be fired. A total waste of some good actors and some clever photography.

Agree with you that Nico steals every scene he's in. But I'm so annoyed with this story, I'm now repelled by the actress playing Diana, so I'm equally repelled by her Cicatricure ad. Plus I hate the introductory music and the tedios "Máscaras, máscaras theme song as well. I remember when Nickster grew to hate recapping Fuego en la Sangre so much, that he came to hate the theme song as well (which was a really lovely one). Well this one not so much. But the lame story doesn't help.

Sorry about the rant. It's been a hot muggy day here in Ohio and watching this disaster doesn't help at the tail end of the afternoon.

Thanks though for doing a super job on this Titanic.

JudyB--I think you were at the ready with your keystrokes! I'm afraid it's going to take this mierda longer to sink from view than it did the Titanic. (How many episodes are left--it gives me a headache just thinking it's still in the 50s.)

Nothing is right about this tn.

And, if Alexander is correct, it's getting moved to 2 pm? Jeeez. Spare me having to reprogram my DVR.

MAÑANA

Thank you, Anita, for an excellent recap even if your heart wasn't in it   :-)
I get the feeling that this TN will soon be down to a few dozen viewers, total, world-wide. I'm still mildly interested, mostly in Regina, so I'll be watching for a while yet.
Thank you for explaining what happened at the school. Regina asked someone to call out Gato, and then they wound up outside a tattoo parlor, and I was totally lost. Interesting that they called off the search at that point.

I agree that Nico with the little girl didn't advance the story much, but I enjoyed it. A cute little girl and a "no mushy stuff" little boy.   :-)
Better than Nico the Blackmailer.

Paloma was looking good sunning herself, (yes, Judy, I did enjoy it) but why in the world would she want to kiss Mauricio? This is totally unbelievable. She is too hot to have to go behind people's backs to smooch with a slime ball like Mauricio.

Quite frankly it's a mystery how this TN went so wrong right from the beginning and has continued so. I thought they did a lot of audience research in Mexico with these TNs. It is beyond believable that audiences would have been happy with things this far.

I don't think anyone who is recapping, or recapletting, should feel in any way obligated at all to continue. Those writing recaps might wind up being the only ones to read them.
:-)

OT

Whatever. I have no interest in El Dragón, but I will take a look sometime to see Renata Notni. She looked a lot hotter in the promos than I remember her in Mi Adorable Maldición. But can't judge by promos.

MAÑANA

Thank you for your recap, Anita!

I really do not understand Malicio taking those chances in broad daylight with Paloma. Eejit.

I guess I missed Malicio getting those DNA samples.

”Laura is doing housework at the Airbnb”
LOL!!! Anita. Good one. And why on earth was she using a shop vac on the carpet??? SMH! I have one that looks just like that for the basement and garage. Yeesh.

”I think he may have told her they won’t know about the lymph nodes until the surgery.”
That is how I understood it, too.

Hijas de la Luna - Thank you again, Alexander, for letting us know about this. I checked it out online and it is a remake of Las Juanas. Copy & Paste: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hijas_de_la_luna
Great cast and I like Nicandro Diaz Gonzalez’s productions. I will do my recap for this Wednesday, as promised, and will likely bail from this telenovela to watch Hijas.

Mañana

Your recap impressed and intrigued me Anita. Imagine how much more so if I were only watching this!

While not all that shimmers and shines is gold, it certainly was here.

"Cam is still smoking and fantasizing—bah! At least it wasn’t a smokin’ fantasy" was perfection as was "flagrante besicto". Of course, I also enjoyed everything mi amiga Judy noted.

"Moni reviews in her head, all the best moments where Cam showed any personal interest in her at all. She ends her mind-video by hearing him say how much he loves his wife and children". Of course he does! Are you that desperate you are willing to debase yourself with a few crumbs of kind words from a man with a sick wife? Ack.

There is much fear of sickness. And of death. Life is so precious, and it can end at any time. But when you are made aware that time is finite, you have the chance some will never have. To hold those you love close, to tell them you love them and that you need them. Love heals - it should never hurt, but that is exactly what Diana did. To her and her husband."Cam is shut out, shut off and shut down". What a wasted opportunity.

"She tells Moni that since she might die during the surgery...". Devoid of any positivity and hope, Diana seems doomed.

Well done Anita. And I had to smile at your comment "I'm afraid it's going to take this mierda longer to sink from view than it did the Titanic". Oh dear. All of the recappers deserve so much better!

Diana

Thank you Anita.

Diana making so many plans reminded me of an experience I had in Macau. It was 49 y ears ago l( I know, a looong time). Out guide told us he was a member of the Communist Party to guard against the day the Chinese walked across the creek and took over Macau. I asked him when he thought it would be. He smiled and said, “Not today”. I have remembered his words when I had a cancer scare and when my husband also experienced this. I have also related it when I have had friends experiencing similar things. Of course, it is the day eventually but Diana needs to realize no matter how bad the news from the doctor it is still “Not today”. She is living and planning like there is no tomorrow. Even the most serious diagnosis is “Not today”

I stopped watching this novela a while ago. Just too unrealistic for me. I wanted to drop in on the patio to say “Hi”. Many good memories from MIRADA

Mely

Mely, wise words.

Mely, thank you for your post. A wonderful reminder we need to live in and treasure each moment. That has really buoyed my spirits today.

Bless you.

Diana

MELY...Thank you. Wise words indeed as Susanlynn said. We've been going through some family drama the past few months and I've been spinning all sorts of disastrous "what ifs" in my mind. From now on, when that starts, I will say to myself...

BUT NOT TODAY.

We miss you, Mely. But completely understand why you would not want to waste your time on this disastrous (so far) story. Although it is in Spanish!

Mañana

Thanks, Anita, for this exceptional recap of an anything but exceptional episode. "Nothing is right about this tn." DITTO!! Oh, and I too was annoyed with that countdown for Dragon :-)

JudyB, " I'm like REALLY!!!????? that a mother would climb in a twin bed with her well past puberty son to spend the night. Are our cultural differences really that great? Just. No. Not. Appropriate. Ever...And the continued pushing away of Camilo and manipulating of Monica is just stupid and crazy making. I just love when you rant because I share your sentiments!

Mely, thanks you for sharing your "Not Today" story. Very wise words to live by.

Diana, "There is much fear of sickness. What a wasted opportunity." Yes, indeed! I'd like to know how many here, if in Diana's situation, would push away their loved ones. And how many here, if told by your spouse that s/he was undergoing an operation would "ask" if they could be there. I, for one, would not ask, I would just be there regardless of whether I was wanted there or not.

The time change for this TN may mean that I will not be able to watch it. Doris, I may try "Hijas de la Luna" but I'm already watching too many TNs so quien sabe. I wonder if this is where Michelle Renaud's and Danilo Carrera's romance blossomed....hmmmmm.

Yes, Mely, Words to Live By--But Not Today. One I used in college, preparing for an exam was--And This Too Shall Pass, always looking forward to the day after. I've been successful in using it for other difficult situations, but I really like, But Not Today.

Doris--Your missing that Mau got items for a DNA test shows how resourceful a CSI investigator Luis was. Apparently Mau ordered him to get something with Cam and Rafa's DNA on it and we heard him tell Luis specifically to wear gloves. Luis got one of Cam's coffee cups and dropped it into a plastic bag and handed it and some chewing gum of Rafa's over to Mau a couple of episodes back. (I tracked it down and it was my recap....HOW SOON WE FORGET!!!!, but understandable with this tn.)

Andy--ITA with you about the Regie story line. So far it is the most intriguing. I'll be away for two weeks. I'm forcing myself to record YM, but when I get back, I'm going to FF>> through everything except scenes with Regina.

I will not be surprised if YM is no longer being recapped when I return. We can all breathe a sigh of relief without regrets and concentrate on LU and Dragon.

JudyB--take a rest, amiga. Instead of recapping, maybe we could just leave the thread open for ranting and raving, fuming and letting off steam. If anyone on Sr. Moreno's staff peruses Caray, they all know by now how we feel about this tn. He's better than this.

MAÑANA #19 CLIFFNOTES

DIANA WIELDS HER ILLNESS LIKE A CLUB and

WHO YOU GONNA BELIEVE? ME? OR YOUR LYIN' EYES?

This was a fun episode in a creepy way. Diana really is an emotional blackmailer, no matter what she says to Monica. And Barbi is so deep in denial, Mauricio doesn't even need to lie. Best part, other than Nico's busy little blackmail schemes (clearly he gets it from Mom) was Rafa dancing navel to navel with Paloma. The actor really can MOVE. A pleasure to watch. But not for Laura evidently.

But here's the rundown:
1. Mauricio learns from DNA results that Rafa really is Camilo's son. Schemes with buddy to cast shade on Rafa some other way. Buddy will do it for money.
2. Nico makes Laura do the decorations. Or else.
3. Diana learns useless, immature Cristobal is about to be thrown out of school.
4. Adrian suggests she negotiate to get Cristobal to attend class and raise grades. If he does so, he'll get a guitar. Even if she's dead. He doesn't want anything if she's dead and tears up agreement.
5. Nico blackmails Paloma into making the cards for the party.Or else.
6. Rafa learns that Nico's sweet on "the prettiest girl in school".
7. Monica has trouble sleeping.
8. So does Camilo. Dreams about giving a lecture on cancer statistics etc.
9 Camilo and Diana, also sleepless, end up in kitchen together. He tries to tell her how much he's missed her. And that he loves her the same as he has since the very first day. She rebuffs him for "expecting her support". SHE'S THE ONE WHO'S SICK. SHE'S THE ONE WHO'S SCARED. He begs forgiveness for not being the husband she wanted.

DIANA WIELDS HER ILLNESS LIKE A CLUB and

WHO YOU GONNA BELIEVE? ME? OR YOUR LYIN' EYES?

10. Barbi waylays Diana in hallway in order to be the first to wish her Happy Anniversary. And hopes Mom will be there for her wedding. And wants her to be first to call when Barbi has a big anniversary.
11. Rafa and Mau share the small space office. It's not going well.
12. Barbi shows up at office to invite Monica to the party. Now that she and Diana are such good friends, it's really important that she come. Moni gives her pained, fake smile.
13. Cristobal comes to Mom's bedroom because he hears her keyboard clacking. His favorite sound. He loves seeing and hearing her write. He wants to write a sonata to go with her stories. I learned a new word "carátula". I think it can mean either the cover of a book or the cover for a CD. (Remember, we're watching this Misery so we can learn Spanish!) Cris makes his mom promise that she's going to live. (another blackmailer)
14. Regina comes to office. Wants to see Pablo. Nora asks why. It's a personal matter. Gets Pablo to leave office to help her with project for the anniversary party.
Nora, the office gossip, speculates that Pablo is now hooking up with Camilo's daughter.

15. Maggie is at Eugenia's door. Now that they "know" who Regina's baby daddy is (and want nothing to do with him) she expects Eugenia to fulfill her part of the bargain. Tita stalls, saying she can't do anything while Diana's health and life hang in such a precarious balance. Maggie sulks.
16. Rafa and Camilo talk business. Camilo then offers Rafa his two tickets to NYC and suggests he take Monica. Rafa looks intrigued.
17. Regina and Pablo are computer editing the music for anniversary celebration. Paloma barges in and co-opts him to help her with cards. Regina sulks. Nico arrives and asks if she invited Manny and Maggie to party 'cause he wants them to come. She agrees.
18. Camilo and Diana come down the stairs to total darkness. Suddenly the lights go on and everybody yells SURPRISE!!!!!
19. Monica is sulking at home. Will NOT go to party. Ximena insists on fixing her up to go. And does. Monica arrives at party to be greeted by GLARES from Laura and Paloma. Barbi announces Monica with glee as "Our first guest!!!!" Diana looks pleased. Camilo looks puzzled.

DIANA WIELDS HER ILLNESS LIKE A CLUB and

WHO YOU GONNA BELIEVE? ME? OR YOUR LYIN' EYES?

20. Mauricio and Paloma are canoodling in the kitchen. He invites Paloma to stop by his apartment some night as she will have the time of her life. Paloma: Arrogant much? Going in for another kiss when Barbi interrupts. OUTRAGE. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Mauricio manages to convince her that she didn't see what she saw. Paloma adds her bit: Like what would I want with your fiancé? (Indeed Paloma. That's what we're all asking.) Mau actually gets Barbi to grovel for doubting their love and promises to never do it again. (Gag me with a spoon.)
21. Rafa arrives. Mauricio stalks out saying atmosphere has been "contaminated". Barbi stays to squabble with Rafa and question whether or not he's really Camilo's son. Rafa promises he can show her even without a DNA test. Starts to take off his pants. Evidently he has a birthmark down south that's exactly like his Dad's. Mauricio interrupts this Show 'n Tell. And confirms to Barbi that yes, DNA tests show that Rafa is Camilo's son.
22. Monica is holed up in the one family bathroom, trying to get Ximena to agree to call in 10 minutes with some pretend emergency so she can leave. Ximena refuses and fibs that she and Horacio are having a little Reconciliation Romp, so please don't come home yet!
23. Maggie and Manny arrive. Nico ecstatic. Both about SuperManny and the cake they brought. (And it's clear: Camilo and Diana have no friends. Only family, a secretary and the Stalker Adoption Couple. A very strange guest list for a party.)

MAÑANA #19 CLIFFNOTES

DIANA WIELDS HER ILLNESS LIKE A CLUB and

WHO YOU GONNA BELIEVE? ME? OR YOUR LYIN' EYES?

24. Diana shows Monica the master bedroom and tells her which side Camilo sleeps on. (Good grief!) Also her work desk where she writes her stories. In short, her whole life is in this room. And she wants Monica to be next in line. The room is filled with family photos and Monica will be in those next also.
25. Now she gives the tour of the children's bedrooms. First Barbi's. So happy and so sad that soon Barbi will be leaving to start a life of her own with Mauricio. How she hopes to be in her wedding. And sniffs Barbi's clothes. (Ye gods, this really bugs me. But it's part of every telenovela. Love involves loving the fragrance of your people and sniffing their clothing like a bloodhound.)
26. Next, Cristobal's room. It's a mess. He needs special care. You'll have to be extra loving with him because, while he has a heart of gold, he's immature for his age. (You've got that right! Diana). Promise me you'll take good care of him.
27. Now Nico's room. Sometimes he still comes in my bed at night. And every once in a while wets the bed. But not often. (Wow. Not exactly a great sales pitch) Nico likes my made up stories rather than the classic fairy tales. So I've done some rough drafts that you can improvise on. That way he'll think you're making up stories for him as well.
28. Scene switches to main room where Rafa is dancing with the girls. Laura watching closely. Eventually he's navel to navel with Paloma. Great moves. But Laura isn't happy. Nor is Mauricio.
29. Last: Regina's room. She's always been very adult says Diana. In the end, I know she'll do the right thing.
30.. Tomorrow is the surgery. If you don't agree to all this, Monica, I will not go under the knife. I HAVE TO KNOW THAT YOU WILL HANDLE EVERYTHING FOR MY HUSBAND AND FAMILY. Otherwise, no surgery.
30. Monica protests weakly that "this is blackmail". No, counters Diana. This is simply sticking to our agreement. Monica caves.

And there we end.

Discuss amongst yourselves Petite Patio. And maybe decide whether we will do any cliffnotes or recaps after this week. May be better to let this one fold and see if the telenovela starting Oct. 14 is any better.

PS. Forgot to add that Rafa tells Monica about the two tickets to NYC and thinks it would be great for them to go together. Diana looks daggers at Monica, making it clear that she is not to accept invitation. Rafa agrees that they should forget about NYC and all stay here and support Diana.

Judy, the title(s) were great! This was hardly cliff notes - your recap was so crystal clear that even I (unable to watch)can figure out the gist of the storyline. Detailed to perfection.

"Camilo and Diana, also sleepless, end up in kitchen together. He tries to tell her how much he's missed her. And that he loves her the same as he has since the very first day. She rebuffs him for "expecting her support". SHE'S THE ONE WHO'S SICK. SHE'S THE ONE WHO'S SCARED. He begs forgiveness for not being the husband she wanted". Yes, Diana is sick. But she is also clearly crazy.

So many gems including "Mauricio interrupts this Show 'n Tell", "a little Reconciliation Romp" and my hands down favorite "Love involves loving the fragrance of your people and sniffing their clothing like a bloodhound".

This is sinking and quickly. But the excellent recaps are managing to keep this afloat. That said, I am sorry to have missed "Rafa dancing navel to navel with Paloma".

Huge sigh.

I won't be able to watch "Hijas de la Luna" either but will try and stop by to support whatever show you all end up watching. Rgv Chick, supposedly Danilo and Michelle fell in love filming there, but I will just point out they worked together in Pasion so perhaps that may have been the (unintended) beginning.

Judy thank you so much.

JudyB, thank you for an excellent recap, done in your "CliffNotes" style.

I thought this was a decent episode and I enjoyed parts. However, if I could I would shake Diana and tell her to stop the doom and gloom, she's making everybody crazy and she's wasting her own time, which actually could be limited.

This is a carryover from yesterday, but I'm still wondering about Regina's baby daddy. I thought it was totally TN dumb and unbelievable that they would go to the tattoo parlor and then just quit. "I was born at night, but it wasn't last night" fits this occasion. Then Regina did not look pleased today when Paloma conscripted Pablo. OK, she's not interested in "Killer", she is interested in Pablo. Details, details, I want details on Killer and how he and Regina got together and why he's toast now. Meh.

Re recapping, I think that should be up to those of you who do the recapping, but below a certain threshold of readers I think it's hardly worth the effort.
If I'm still watching this TN by 14 Oct I'll set the DVR to record two hours, starting at 2 PM. Neither hour is especially convenient for me, but recording works great and I don't much care for most prime time TNs.

Thank you for your recap, Judy, and the smart snark! I love the title, too.

I'm not going to have time to watch this episode, but will be in the drivers seat tomorrow with my mini-caplet.

Poor Barbi, she is in love with the idea of getting married. She just thinks she loves Malicio.
"Mau actually gets Barbi to grovel for doubting their love and promises to never do it again. (Gag me with a spoon.)" Gag me, too! That guy does not now, nor will he ever love her, respect her, or treat her right. And if she marries him anyway, I will not feel sorry for her.

I was thinking, maybe this TN could be saved if they course corrected soon:

First, have Camilo and Diana drive off a cliff and be killed instantly (and painlessly, of course).

Barbi grows up overnight and takes charge of the family; dumps Malicio.

Monica remains a friend of the family and visits often, and tries to help Nico win over "the prettiest girl in school". In time she meets the girl, and her father, who just happens to be a handsome widower. Romance blossoms, of course.
We could let it drag out just a little, but then a blowout fancy TN wedding and HEAs all around.

And I offer these ideas to the producers completamente gratis.

:-)

OK, perhaps a little cruel to send Camilo and Diana off a cliff, but I am really sick of the two of them.

And I can't otherwise think who to pair Monica with...

MAÑANA

Andy- I like your version of this telenovela. Maybe Cam & Di could just both go into comas for the duration
and wake up during ultimas capitulos and all this will have been a bad dream (looking at you Bobby Ewing).

Good Morning DIANA, ANDY and DORIS. My dear petite Patio. I imagine us gathered around a chimenea, under a cool, starlit sky, sipping some adult beverages and laughing about what a mess this telenovela is. But enjoying sharing it nonetheless.

DIANA...You are always such a supportive reader. Thank you amiga. And I agree, Diana is crazy and wasting the precious days of her life. But, having never been diagnosed with cancer, I can't say how I would have reacted. Maybe just as badly. At any rate, her character is so off-putting, as I said earlier, I can't even stand her Cicatricure ads now.

DORIS...I like your idea of comas for Cam and Di. A bit kinder than having them drive off a cliff as in Thelma and Louise. Well, anything to put an end to this awful push-pull, c'mere/go away that we have right now. And oh my, it's painful to watch Mauricio manipulating her, and her desperate desire to please him and keep moving towards her dream of a beautiful wedding and happy marriage. Maybe so. One day. But not with this guy.

ANDY...The mystery of Regina's baby daddy remains. Clearly it's not Killer of Tattoo Parlor fame. That was another red herring our clever Regi pulled on her clueless family. But all these people are bizarre. Cristobal and Nico are the only ones who seem to have friends. I forget Cristobal's buddy's name. Nor do I remember that of "the prettiest girl" in Nico's class. But at least those two have connections. Barbi doesn't seem to, other than the odious Mauricio. And Regi likewise. Beginning to think this might be another virgin birth.

Finally, what to do with Monica? Well, there is Adrian. Granted, with his feckless ways he doesn't seem promising. No job as far as I know. And making a career out of traveling and crashing on people's couches as far as I can ascertain. But seems reasonably grounded. And he's single.

DORIS...Querida amiga, so glad to have your help this Wednesday. I'm off to an early dinner with a friend from Bogotá, so I'll be hearing some real life Spanish and maybe shoe-horning in a word or two of español myself!

Manana--
Just a note before flying off. JudyB--I would have passed the test using your Cliffnotes. Gracias, amiga.

Doris--"That guy [Malicio] does not now, nor will he ever love her, respect her, or treat her right. And if she marries him anyway, I will not feel sorry for her." We should look behind the beard. Mau still lives in a bygone era (except in telenovelas set in the 21st C.) that you marry for expediency (money and power and lucky enough to be a big muckety muck's SIL). Judging from his current behavior, he'll satisfy his nether regions serially with anyone willing to bed him.

JudyB--Petite Patio, indeed. This goes into my CarayCaray dictionary I'm writing (with proper attribution, of course).

Anita - safe travels and a wonderful time.

WHAT CAN I SAY? IT WAS A GOOD EPISODE

Not much idiocy today, so here we go. A lot happened, I have 3 1/2 pages of legal pad notes, and I wanted to keep this brief. Ha!

We open with Diana making Moni promise to take care of everyone/everything if/when/after she dies on the operating table. Nice.

During the 25th surprise anniversary party, Regi stands on a chair (or something) and announces she is going to live with los Gonzalez (who are also in attendance at this affair. QTH?) Di says ‘over my dead body’ and Camilo finally acts like a parent (finally!), goes off on Regi, and basically tells her to stop thinking about yourself for once and this party is neither the time or the place. Regi says ‘you’re not the boss of me’ and stomps off. Typical. Whatever.

Family watches the 25th anniv. video the kids made, it is like a power point of all the family photos with the kids growing up thru the years. Diana is crying thru it all. Monica quietly leaves crying --- either she is feeling sorry for herself and the family like that which she does not have? Or is she just so sad for Diana and her cancer with this beautiful family? IDK which it is nor am I capable of deep thought today.

Diana tells her family that people wonder how she comes up with the characters in her stories but she tells her kids that THEY are her inspiration. Nice scene . . . until she drops the bombshell on them that TOMORROW is her operation, saying ‘don’t worry, it’s just an operation and everything will be fine.’ All heck breaks loose.

At some point, Cam goes outside, probably for a cigarette which he does smoke, and finds Monica still crying. They talk and Cam puts his hand on Monica’s, either in friendship or comfort and (ta-daaa!!!) up walks Barbi to see this little tableau and totally gets the wrong idea, asking her father “What was going on here?”

Monica tells Xi when she gets home that Cam & Di have such love for each other and their kids, that she cannot possibly compete with that. (okaaaay…..?)

Cutie patootie Nico & Rafa are in their bedroom when Nico asks Rafa if he mother told him stories. Rafa says no, so Nico starts telling him one. Very cute scene because of Nico.

Next morning, Di is packing her suitcase for the hospital, Cam wakes up, learns Di asked Adrian to take her to the hospital; she wants Cam to stay here with the kids. Well, no way….they all take Diana to the hospital. (like the amoeba clan in Mirada)

In other news, Rafa walks in on Malicio, who is taking pics of something in a file on Rafa’s desk. They have words, I don’t understand it all nor do I care. Later, Malicio tries to warn Xi that Rafa is a shady character, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, wants Xi to spy on him and report to Mal so he can expose him. Eh, whatevs.

Right when Pablo’s meeting begins, Luis gets a phone call and runs out of there. Nora follows him out the building, across the campus, where she sees Luis greet some guy, hug him, put his arm around him and they walk off. So obviously Nora thinks Luis is gay.

As Diana is wheeled to surgery her own amoeba clan is in the hall. Nico tells the family that everything will be allright. Cristobal looks like he needs a drink and leaves. (probably to go find one).

We see Monica at the office, she can’t get any work done so calls the hospital to check on Diana, but her surgery has not begun yet.

And that’s all, folks.

MAÑANA

Yay, Doris! Thank you for this brief but quite complete recap. I agree with you that it was a decent episode, it actually made sense and was not just crazy.

This is not to say that it was a whole lot of fun because it wasn't. Fairly serious stuff there and some quite emotional. And, yet again, Monica is seeing that she can't be a drop-in replacement for Diana. I know it's just a story but I have to feel sorry for Monica, all those wasted, at least to some extent, years pining after Camilo.

Well, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day in telenovelandia and we will have some good report after the operation. And some more Paloma sunbathing would be nice too.

andy

Love it DORIS! Haven’t seen the episode yet but it does indeed sound bearable from your wry, witty recap.

Cutie patootie Nico. So right! As was Camilo finally standing up and acting like a parent (Regina). And of course loved the “amoeba clan”. But my fave, hands down was this:

“They have words. I don’t understand it all. Nor do I care”

Amen, sistah! In fact what I love most about your recap is I’m now up to date. And maybe can skip watching this. I’d much rather read my smart, witty friend Doris’ recap. When you retell it— succinctly— it’s so much better than sitting through it.

Thanks so much! Off to dinner a carefree lass!

doris, it seems this episode was not quite as dreadful as usual, so that was good.

I enjoyed your recap, particularly "Cristobal looks like he needs a drink and leaves. (probably to go find one)".

Andy, you are much kinder than I regarding Monica. A little crush from afar is one thing, but...And isn't the promise of something you think you will never get sweeter when dreamed rather than actually realized? Camilo already met his match.

"Diana making Moni promise to take care of everyone/everything if/when/after she dies on the operating table. Nice." So, on her deathbed (not quite literally) she can't give up her idiotic idea? What happened to holding your head high and soaking in the love and affection of your family rather than pushing them away?

Thank you doris!

Diana

MAÑANA

Thank you all for your kind comments. This episode was easy. I thought I would be writing a recrap and they surprised me.
What a nice surprise. Maybe tomorrow's episode will be a good one, too. 🤞🏻

ANITA...If you're checking in, hope your travels went well and that you're having a wonderful time with family. And that it's cooler THERE than HERE. Elementary schools here in the city canceled classes because of the torrid heat. So now we not only have "snow days" we have "heat days". Loved your "with cliffnotes I would have passed the test". You clever gal. Have fun.

JudyB - we hit a record number of days over 90° this summer. All this week has been in the high 90s, yesterday was a record high. Cool front arriving overnight, tonight, and hopefully it will make its way to you, too. Plus we've had no real rain for two months, all the lawns are crunchy brown.

Good Morning, Patio!

Doris, loved the recap! And JudyB, a belated "excelente!" on your cliffnotes.

Yesterday's was indeed the a much better episode than what we had seen. Camilo finally put on his suspenders on and insisted on going with Diana to the hospital as did the kids. YAY!

I found it quite odd that Ximena was so easily swayed by Malicio.

JudyB, I like your idea about Monica and Adrian...a much better choice than any of the others we have seen to-date.

OT-I heard about the closing of schools due to heat and of the record breaking number of days in the 90s. Judy, do the schools not have CAH / AC's in every room? Here in the RGV, August was announced to have record breaking number of days with temps at or above 100! September was not as hot, but we've had plenty of heat along with rain; so most of my time now is spent outdoors trying to keep up with mowing and weeding :-/
