This is the last week for Preso No. 1. A new, short novela, No te puedes esconder (You can't hide), begins next Monday, September 30. It will have only 10 episodes. Among the featured actors are Blanca Soto (from Eva Luna and Señor Acero), Eduardo Noriega, Iván Sánchez (Santiago in La Reina del Sur 1), Maribel Verdú, and Gabriel Porras (La Reina del Sur 1, Bajo el Mismo Cielo, and Al Otro Lado del Muro). The novela presents the story of Monica and her daughter Natalia, who decide to flee from Mexico to escape from their past, an abusive husband, and a criminal network. They establish new identities in Madrid, Spain, and begin to remake their lives. There they encounter a former policeman turned hit-man, a photographer obsessed with death, and a politician with forbidden relationships. Everyone is hiding something. Sounds interesting!

PRESO NO. 1 – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 2
Carmelo and Adán sit down at a table with the revolutionary group Carmelo has been living with. He tells them that they have to take some action. They (the baddies) have disguised a coup with an election and Mayorga is now calling the shots. But, if the masked guys start a war, it won’t end well. He tries to convince them that those who will suffer by their actions will be the people in the streets of the city, not the people in the mountains. He refuses to join with their plan of declaring war.
Isabel gives birth with Chinta as the midwife. Chinta saw her mother deliver babies and feels she can handle it. The usual TN birth: “Push!” Screams. “Push!”
Carmelo tells the head revolutionary that he’ll take action at the proper time. Ni un segundo más ni un segundo menos.
Both Caro in prison (via a cell phone) and Carmelo get to see their still bloody grandchild.
Eva says that Bautista has declared himself President [?] (says this to Carmelo) when a picture appears for Carmelo of his grandchildn.
Josefina, a baby in her arms, wants Rivas Macin to flee. He says that they can’t do more harm to them than they’ve already done and to the whole country.
A kind doctor comes to the cabin and says that both Isa and the baby are fine. He knows who they are. Sara is annoyed about Gina having come and that there are too many leaks about their whereabouts. She says that, when Isa wakes up, they’re leaving.
Josefina comes to see Federico Iturbe. He’s drinking, apparently having fallen off the wagon. She wants him to come see Rivas Macin, who’s planning some action.
Ricardo comes to the prison to tell Caro that Adonis is close to being offered money to admit he killed Pia. Caro, always too noble, doesn’t like the idea of money having caused this. Ricardo tells Caro that Adonis knows that he’ll be eventually killed. The money will protect Adonis in prison.
[They aren’t even bothering to give us those tiny clues of when things are taking place. I go by Sara’s hair color!]
In one moment we see Sara and Isa on a bus, presumably on their way from that cabin that Melena had arranged, and in the next we see Sara alone (dark hair) trying to get a guy to give her more gas. [So, she’s in a car and managed to get away from Crazy Joe, we have to assume.]
Mayorga and his one-time lover Crazy Joe are face timing. CJ has a bandage on his arm. [I thought Eva shot him in the leg.] Mayorga is chewing him out for letting the girls get away. CJ responds that Mayorga should “use” Caro in prison to find Carmelo. Mayorga responds that she’s out of prison. And while all the efforts were focused on capturing Carmelo’s daughters, Carolina got away without a clue of where she might be.

Emanuel and Caro arrive somewhere with plastic sheets covering the walls. Paco is there, and Caro embraces him. He tells her to look and she sees Carmelo. They embrace and kiss. But she can tell he’s worried about something. He says that the gringo found them, but they got away. Isabel and the children are with Padre Aguirre but they don’t know where Sara is.
Carolina talks with Isabel and tells her that Sara got away. Adán asks if the gringo knew where the sisters were headed. Apparently this is of concern, but Isa won’t leave there without her sister.
We then see Sara arrive at the place where Isabel and Padre Aguirre are.
Presumably because they believe the gringo knows where they were headed [?], the girls and toddlers are on their way to be with their parents when the truck they’re hiding in the back of is stopped by some soldiers. Adán is watching with binoculars.
Mayorga tells CJ that he’s to find the girls and bring them to him, but alive.
We see that Joe has been beating Padre Aguirre. But we don’t see the outcome of this.
A soldier tells the girls in the back of the truck that he’s looking for the daughters of a criminal. Then he leans forward and tells them they can leave. When another soldier objects, he tells him to go away. The good one says they should tell their father that many soldiers are with him.
Diana and Ricardo are watching a news bulletin about some paramilitaries having attacked a village where Padre Aguirre had been helping some unfortunate people. And that there are people wounded and dead.
Carolina blows up at Carmelo about her daughters, but then we see both Sara, Isa, and the boys show up at the hideout. We see a happy family reunion, where Carmelo calls his son Ernesto Alvarado Mateos and lifts him in the air.
We see Emanuel and Blas meet with Toño, Carmelo’s old prison buddy. They want him to protect Adois Madrigal. Toño says he’ll do it, but later he plans to kill him himself.
Sigh. Time has backed up again. Eva is alive and tells Carmelo that there’s a helicopter headed for the guerillas.
Iturbe has had his meeting with Rivas Macin. Somehow Iturbe has some documents that he says were not destroyed. Rivas Macin says he’s gong to try to clear Carmelo’s name with the documents.
Adonis is taken to some phones by prison guards. He gets a call from Carmelo and pees himself. Carmelo tells him that if “they” don’t kill him, Carmelo’s group will do it. He says that one Toño will get in touch with Adonis. They want the truth.

I've been interested to see that, perhaps acknowledging that they've been chopping away at this novela, Telemundo has had El Final del Paraíso run over by about 6 or 7 minutes each day this week (I'm not sure about Monday, but certainly Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.) I wonder whether they'll also cut the perhaps not so gran final.

Zoraya is backing out, Shadow suggests a little danger for Alf, she loves him right?
CG gets a call from Titi, nope it's Pilar, she wants help, Titi is taking on the Babes all by himself, Pilar sends their location, Titi's standing right there, did she buy it?
CG sets up the mission, where's Val, oh she took 2 days off.
Val slips in to see the sleeping Alf, they talk about us, it's just that I have been alone so long Val says, they kiss.
the Hand and Santos are headed to Bogota where they will set up the lab, the Babes (I guess Moncho is honorary member now) will stay close to Titi and Cg, are headed to the new Babe digs, but wait, Cata and company have them surrounded,
Mari runs into the office for some hand grenades, where Titi is hot on their laptop, he stands she shoots, dead to the world, the fog is rolling in on Mari but she finds her way back to the car, I killed Titi (why does everyone look sad)
and the game of chicken is on, "no one arrests the Hand", did he want to drive, shooting the driver and out the door, some fast moves and our cartel is rolling, splitting at the Y, CG follows the Babes.
mastermind Pilar walks past the slow to recover Titi and begins inputting a mega virus into the Hand's network, Titi shows us his vest, thanks Pilar for it.
across town Sal is showing off Hilda's new shop, but the flames are still burning from last night, their hands and lips are not behaving, but wait Hilda says, someone will see us, Sal assures her they are alone, and their bodies will not be denied, Jo is quietly making youtubes next viral video, later Hilda and Sal sip some wine, this is a night we will never forget (if Jo has something to say about it)
Calvo takes his princess Al to the local fights to meet the trainer, Diabla needs some extra cash.
the Hand's crew phones go dead, CG's guys too, the hand stops on the way to their helio, Santos gets it, the virus will delete the xy4 formula too, the Hand gets on him, I'm a chemist, not an IT guy.
Mari is seeing dead Titi's everywhere, (love it, even a dead Titi is fun)
CG corners Mari, kill me she yells, Moncho gets the drop on her, Vane gets in the way, Dayana plugs her, Moncho tells CG I would kill you but, I will let you live with the thought that your daughter doesn't love you.
CG confesses to the Colonel she is losing her touch, with Mari, he has seen her in action, and builds her up.
what? Calvo finds Patricia and family but no son (I'm shocked Diabla didn't keep her word), what is that thing Diabla does, a snear, a smirk, before Val accidentally stumbles on Al in the shower, so sorry, just wanted to thank you, a kiss, and run.
Hand insists they can't return with out the formula.
the Babes call Diabla for a pickup, she learns of Titi's demise (she doesn't look happy either)
Titi and Pilar, sweaty sex, when younger Titi says yes, now, lets talk, Pilar is CataG, Mari, Dayana, Titi is out of the mood.
revenge Liset is looking through a fence, she is not leaving till CG sees her videos, Hilda's calls are unanswered.

Thanks for taking one for the team, novelera. Very helpful and much appreciated. Thank you, Juanita for commenting. It’s nice to know I’m not alone in my confusion. So hard to make any sense of this. I feel I can’t be very helpful to the discussion.
I have no idea why the writers like time travel so much. The captions appear so small on the screen in yellow lettering and if you use closed captions, they are completely covered. The transitions are so easy to miss. novelera, that was a good idea to use Sara’s hair color as an indicator.
To me at first, it looked like Sara shot CJ in the butt, I thought that was fitting—but then I saw him grab his leg. And then he had a bandage on his arm? Oh, well.
Pee-pants Adonis was a highlight for me too, Juanita.
I wonder if the run-over from El Final del Paraíso is a clever ruse to bring 10 pm viewers to the show. There have been times when I’ve caught the last few minutes of an earlier show and that piqued my interest to watch. Anyway, I’m finding season 4 to be an improvement (so far) on season 3 so if anyone out there wants to come on over…

I just realized that I left out a whole scene that I had written in my notes and didn't put in the recap. The money to bribe Adonis came from Belisario. He gave Blas, IIRC, a leather box with a whole book of signed blank checks for Adonis to use. This seemed deeply weird to me. So Adonis writes in a number and the date and takes this to the prison commissary so he can buy Cheetos? They've not discussed Adonis being a free man that I can recall, and it's pretty hard to live high on the hog in prison.

Very entertaining recap, deb. thank you so much. Captures the spirit of what we see.
The night belonged to Titi and Pilar.
They’d been flashing ”la muerte del Titi” all week long. They couldn’t possibly kill him off. I wondered how they were going to get out of it. Someone’s fantasy? Someone’s dream? No, simply un chaleco antibalas! I suspected it when I didn’t see the usual splashing of blood. Then Pilar looked quite calm as she worked on the laptop. Titi said he was glad it was Mariana—a professional would have shot him in the head.
Nice that Morón gave props to La Caleña, Pilar. I’m liking this partnership. We’ll see how long it lasts.

I don’t know why CataG is reluctant to recruit Liseth. Take her under your wing. She’s young and smart. I know she’s on a revenge kick right now but with proper training I think she’ll make a good agent. If Vanessa and Paola could do it so can Liseth.
Diabla’s going after the OGs (but she’s not exactly a spring chicken herself). Diabla will employ the DEA to do her dirty work. I guess the concept of omertà does not exists in the Colombian cartels.

The night belonged to Titi and Pilar.
They’d been flashing ”la muerte del Titi” all week long. They couldn’t possibly kill him off. I wondered how they were going to get out of it. Someone’s fantasy? Someone’s dream? No, simply un chaleco antibalas! I suspected it when I didn’t see the usual splashing of blood. Then Pilar looked quite calm as she worked on the laptop. Titi said he was glad it was Mariana—a professional would have shot him in the head.
Nice that Morón gave props to La Caleña, Pilar. I’m liking this partnership. We’ll see how long it lasts.

Preso No. 1 - Capítulo 44 (gran final) _ Parte 1 de 2
Well, IMHO the supposed gran final turned out to be un gran fracaso. Once again, it started 7 minutes late. We saw Chinta again tell Sara that the DNA test revealed that she is Carmelo's daughter, not Ramses'. We also again saw Adonis terrified over Carmelo's phone call. Finally we move into tongiht's episode. Bautista is meeting with other government officials. He announces that Carmelo and his supporters have declared war on Mexico. We then see "hours earlier" the announcement of a special tax. Mayorga walks in and announces "we're at war." He explains that the National Liberation Front have taken up arms, and they support Carmelo. Mayorga says that the rich suck money from the country. He tells the people in the room (all of whom are among the rich) that they should keep paying for this war or they will go to prison. An American at the table says snidely that he can't wait to hear what Washington thinks of this. Mayorga shoots him in the head.
At the San Buenaventura prison, Toño advises a frightened Adonis to accept the offer of money in return for his telling all he knows. Adonis is scared. A guard comes by and says to Adonis that Toño is why you're still alive. You should thank him.
Ricardo tells Diana that Caro has been released from prison. So too has Francisco, but Diana can't see him right now. For security reasons: her's and the baby's.
We now get a bunch of flashbacks, scenes that we've seen in the last few days and that tell us nothing new. This seems clearly to be padding, added on to the delayed start.
Carmelo, still in hiding, says that they have to leave, the gringo is back on the job and may find them. Caro tells him that if he leaves, she's going with him. Isa and Sara say the same. Soon after this, Carmelo tells Voyo that they should start getting ready for Carmelo's return. "We'll demand justice for all that Bautista, Mayorga, and the others did to our family and to the country."
Somehow, a recording of Carmelo's statement is heard by Bautista's men. Bautista is worried that Carmelo is coming to overthrow him. Mayorga tells him not to worry. "I'll kill him before he gets here." Bautista says, "What are you waiting for? You still have one good hand." Mayorga is not pleased. Bautista says "I'm the president!" Mayorga tells him, "That's a sham pura pantalla. You know very well that I'm the one who calls the shots."

Bautista is watching a TV newscast. A reporter is saying that people have come to the streets when they hear of Carmelo's return. They are shouting "President Carmelo!" Bautista is worried and calls Mayorga. Mayorga sees that it's Bautista calling and doesn't answer the call.
Guido dies. Juan makes a phone call and says "Mr Landon [i.e., Rupert Landon], the game is over. I'm now your only partner. You have some unfinished business: Carmelo Alvarado."
Caro tells Carmelo that "we have to do something." Voyo wants to take up arms. Carmelo is opposed to arms. He says they can build the Mexico they want if they band together. [Yawn]
We see a demonstration on the streets, with people chanting "Free Carmelo!" "Carolina for President!" and "Justice for Mexico!" A reporter notes that the riot police are near but so far haven't acted. We then see Carmelo at the head of the demonstration, linking arms with Plácido, Caro, Isa, Sara, Voyo, Paco, and perhaps some others. Some military troops seem about to stop them. "Carmelo says "We don't want any problems." The soldier in charge gives the order "Present arms!"
We hear an ominous statement in English coming from we don't know where: "Alpha 2 is in position. Repeat: Alpha 2 is in position. Over."
The army guy turns out not to be at all hostile to Carmelo and addresses him as "Señor Presidente."
Uh oh, Crazy Joe is on the scene. [He is very likely Alpha 2 or Alpha 1.] He's climbing up the stairs of some building.
The army guy tells Carmelo that congressmen want to talk to him inside the church. Carmelo and his close supporters enter the church. One of the congressmen (I assume) tells Carmelo that what he's doing is totally illegal. Carmelo responds that there's a power vacuum caused by elections that were not regulated. "The person who can fill that vacuum is standing next to me (i.e., Caro). She has been slandered, abused, and unjustly arrested." Caro asks where Bautista, the supposed president, is. The guy says "he's a total disaster and is Mayorga's puppet." Another congressman accuses Carmelo of stealing from the country. Carmelo replies, "I didn't steal anything. Suddenly, Rivas Macin appears and declares, "Carmelo is absolutely right. He is totally innocent. And he's right when he says that what you're interested in is stealing from the people."
Crazy Joe is now in position with a high-powered rifle. Carmelo comes out of the church. He and his wife and family stand there as he addresses the crowd about the wrongs that have been done and the electoral process that has been tampered with. He also says quietly to Caro that perhaps they too should start anew. She says they can talk about this later.
Carmelo talks to the crowd about this being a moment of reconciliation. "¡Que viva Mexico!"
We see Crazy Joe aiming at various family members. Someone says "Fire!"
The screen goes black.

I didn’t see “Fin” so does this mean there could be another season? I’ll draw my own conclusions without a second season, thank you very much.

Juanito killed Guido with the same drops that killed Pedro. I can’t believe Artemisa really cared for that bastard Guido.
Am I right in thinking Juanito gave the US government (via CIA Crazy Joe) the go ahead to kill Carmelo & Co?

So what: Rivas Macin makes an appearance at the end to say to some congressmen that Carmelo is innocent?
The premise was interesting and ambitious, but I think the writers couldn’t quite pull it off. And then the damn edits….
Too much time travel. Too many beatings. A lot of scenery chewing. Light on the romance, heavy on the adulterous lust/gratuitous sex. Watermelon guy/Carlos/Roger/Crazy Joe was repulsive. Annoying characters throughout and not just the baddies. I found it very hard to connect with any of them.
Angélica Celaya was wasted in this novela. The writers had nothing for her.
I did feel sorry for Pia in the end. They done her wrong. And I feel sorry for Viewerville. They done us wrong, too.

so Pedro, Pia, and Guido were the only bad guys to die (about a hundred more to go).
I still enjoyed the story, acting, I wish it had been written this short instead of being cut.

I came to the blog today to note a small correction to what I had written: I forgot the put parentheses around "pura pantalla, a Spanish phrase meaning "sham." To my delight, I saw your posting. You really nailed it! I too am unsure whether Telemundo will try to get blood from a stone by extending this mediocre novela for a second season, but, like you, I don't need or want a second season. The writers of Reina 2 were successful in large part because they had Reina 1's excellent script and cast to build on. But I think not even those writers could do much working from the shambles of Presto No. 1. You summed it up perfectly:
"Too much time travel. Too many beatings. A lot of scenery chewing. Light on the romance, heavy on the adulterous lust/gratuitous sex. Watermelon guy/Carlos/Roger/Crazy Joe was repulsive. Annoying characters throughout and not just the baddies. I found it very hard to connect with any of them."

So, they set us up with that scene of the entire Alvarado-Arteaga family arm in arm at the head of what was meant to be, I think, thousands of Mexicans supporting at the very least, a fair election with Caro as the candidate. And then they end on Crazy Joe moving the sight on his rifle around and having the crosshairs on, IIRC, each of the family members.
And Mayorga, who the oligarchy thought was nuts and had wanted safely in prison, is at the head of a military junta. Sigh.
So Guido gets poisoned by the same drops administered to Pedro, but this time no doctor figures it out? And we never learn for sure whose daughter Artemisa was? And I'll give the Guido actor some credit for hours and hours of having his face screwed up like that.
I expect there will be another season. Look, the whole be all and end all of telenovelas has always been weeks of bad guys winning or a scheming woman trying to steal the heroine's man by every trick in the book, switched babies, padded fake stomachs to convince the galán she's expecting his spawn, etc., etc., etc.
But there's nearly always retribution for the baddies and a mostly happy ending.
I find it hard to believe they're going to leave us with the guy we've watched be such a patriot, even if an adulterer, just shot and fin.
I was furious that Crazy Joe got almost burned to a crisp and comes out just with a bit of reddening on the left side of his face. OK, so Telenovela Medicine does work miracles. But Telemundo couldn't spring for the horrible distorted half face that Uni used for Sin tu Mirada's villain?
We've had two novelas in which the gringos have been total villains: Reina2 and now this one. We don't talk politics on this blog, but this has been interesting.

And then they end on Crazy Joe moving the sight on his rifle around and having the crosshairs on, IIRC, each of the family members.
And Mayorga, who the oligarchy thought was nuts and had wanted safely in prison, is at the head of a military junta. Sigh.
So Guido gets poisoned by the same drops administered to Pedro, but this time no doctor figures it out? And we never learn for sure whose daughter Artemisa was? And I'll give the Guido actor some credit for hours and hours of having his face screwed up like that.
I expect there will be another season. Look, the whole be all and end all of telenovelas has always been weeks of bad guys winning or a scheming woman trying to steal the heroine's man by every trick in the book, switched babies, padded fake stomachs to convince the galán she's expecting his spawn, etc., etc., etc.
But there's nearly always retribution for the baddies and a mostly happy ending.
I find it hard to believe they're going to leave us with the guy we've watched be such a patriot, even if an adulterer, just shot and fin.
I was furious that Crazy Joe got almost burned to a crisp and comes out just with a bit of reddening on the left side of his face. OK, so Telenovela Medicine does work miracles. But Telemundo couldn't spring for the horrible distorted half face that Uni used for Sin tu Mirada's villain?
We've had two novelas in which the gringos have been total villains: Reina2 and now this one. We don't talk politics on this blog, but this has been interesting.

Many thanks, novelera, for adding to the condemnations of this exceedingly disappointing novela. Frankly, by the time it was over, I no longer cared about any of the characters. Though I wasn't really thrilled with any of the actors, for me the problem was the inept writers, plus Telemundo's making a bad thing worse by chopping up the novela in ways that made no sense.
I almost laughed when Rivas Macin marches in and announces that Carmelo is innocent. And then what? And all through the novela, Carmelo has been mouthing ideas that seemed admirable at first, but after a while they just sounded to me like empty platitudes.
The ending seemed completely inconsistent with what had happened earlier in the episode. Earlier, Carmelo is worried about Crazy Joe, and rightly so. So what does he do? He and his family stand still on the platform, ignoring the threat that Crazy Joe and others still pose. Instead of "hold still for the camera," it's "hold still for the assassins."
You make an interesting point about the last two novelas featuring gringos as villains. Not sure what to make of that. But I'm glad we don't discuss politics here, I do too much of that in my (Un)real Life.
Well, there's one bright spot to focus on: NO MORE DAYS TO GO! :-)

A few highlights from #34 and much thanks to Halimacandy for the color commentary.
Dayana’s feeling a little sad about Titi. The 3 widows—CataG, Mari and Dayana, says Diabla.
Marcela is having a great time with Albeirito and so is Gabriel. Ever present Sandy with those ever present eyes for Gabriel says, you looked so cute with the kid. They also talk about the video Liseth found that will expose the human traffickers & clients.
Albeiro gets his butt kicked by the trainer a few times during this episode. Calvo enjoys every minute.
CataG is having breakfast watching news about the cell phone blackout when she gets a call from the office--you must see Liseth’s video right away! There are some very important people—lawyers, politicians, businessmen, even clergy—including presidential candidate Conde—having sex with underage girls! Liseth sees this video as her entry ticket into the DEA.
Valeria visits Berrio: Some kissy face and he’s being discharged today.
Mari is having a hard time dealing with the “death” of Titi. She’s having nightmares. That, and her bottle is empty. Moncho tries to comfort her, it's a no go. Oh, no, Titica is with her now!
Titi & co are “mourning” his death. They are preparing his funeral. Nice inscription on the headstone: Al que murio en su ley, nadie lo quito lo bailao. They translated this as, no one can take away a life lived by one’s own rules. Basically, Titi lived and died on his own terms. He couldn’t have said it better himself.
Pilar will make a Titi mask to put on a dead body. And they need to relocate since Dayana knows where they are.
Zoraya comes around. She will talk to Berrio.
Hilda relates a little anecdote about granddaughter Mari to Sal. She was always sweet with grandma. They meet with a PI hired by Sal to find Catamedia.
Dayana and Moncho have an interesting “heart to heart” talk. Moncho tells Dayana he made love with Mari. He hears wedding bells with her (this blows my mind). So what’s Dayana’s deal with Titi? Not much, but she would love it if he were still alive. (then why did you betray him?)
Jo and Mateo are at the gym. She tells him about the sex video. He wants no part of it. A news report on Berrio’s release from the hospital comes on and Jo looks upset about it. Mateo gives her a concerned look.
Natalia has returned, ready to get back into the fight! CataG introduces Liseth as an aspiring agent. She will start training with Vanessa.
CataG gets a call from our old pal Rubens. He wants to assign Cata to a security detail for Berrio. This was a joint US-Columbia decision to have the DEA involved. All part of the war on drugs.
Black hand is looking at the Berrio news report, too. He calls Conde, says they should meet.
After the call, Hand goes to a room where Santos is tied up. Hand is disappointed that the formula was lost. Somehow he blames Santos for this and he’s going to overdose Santos as a punishment. Santos saves himself by saying he will develop a new drug, much better and harder for the DEA to detect than XY4. He will call it—wait for it—XY5!
Diabla is ready to sic CataG loose on Moron and Cardonita.
