El Dragon #15, 10/18/19: The Not So Amazing Race or Tired Tires

We left Chisca on the point of an overdose and Miguel looking at Adela, as if to question her loyalty, after finding the bugged pen at the end of last night's episode.

Today we start with Valentin trying to wake Chisca up. But rather than try to revive her when she is unresponsive, or take any emergency action, he gets dressed and bails! What a coward!! I can think of other more appropriate words, but not sure how G rated this needs to be.  Jorge sees Valentin leave the pool house and finds Chisca unconscious and immediately tries to help. He calls Angel to come for Chisca. I am unsure why he calls Angel first and not just an ambulance.

In Miami, Adela is on the defensive, in shock and swearing that she never left her purse unattended. With a simple statement Miguel alleviates her fears. “I  trust you.” But he warns her that others will try to get close to her with the intention of finding out about him. She promises to pay more attention. Then he gets into the reason he brought her to Miami. He wants her to pressure the driver for the test run so that he will run the course putting the most possible wear on the tires. As Miguel said yesterday, right before the spy pen interrupted their conversation, he needs the Novotech tire test to fail. He tells us what it was that he put on the tires yesterday. An organic solvent that will cause the tires to break down quickly. Adela is upset that this was the only reason Miguel brought her to Miami. As we have seen in previous scenes, the undercurrent between Miguel and Adela is strong and Miguel is purposely keeping his distance. As he told Valentin, messing with Adela would be dangerous to him. But it is obvious by the fact that she storms off when finding out the truth about why he brought her that she is quickly becoming unhappy with the situation.  Miguel chases after her and seems confused as to why she is upset. She clarifies that she likes to be told things upfront. She thought he had brought her to Miami for her, not for a “mission.” After clarifying why she is upset, Miguel looks even more confused than before. Adela tells him she won’t help him.

In Mexico City, Chisca is getting taken out of the house on a stretcher. Jorge is trying to help and Angel is telling him to let them do their work. Jorge insists on going with Chisca in the ambulance.

In the hospital Angel still tries to stop Jorge from following but Jorge goes in always. They are working on Chisca and talking to her asking her her name, she is moving, but not responding.

At an outdoor restaurant Miguel keeps his meeting with IRS agent Toledo, who Miguel immediately recognizes as Ulises Murat from his friends yacht the last time he was in Miami. When Toledo tries to explain his reasoning for spying, Miguel won’t even let him speak. Toledo isn’t as good at faking his identity as he thinks, or Miguel is just more observant and less gullible than the rest of the world, because he immediately sees right through his facade and asks him his real name. Toledo denies everything and Miguel ends the meeting then and there, telling Toledo that when he wants to be truthful they can talk. Toledo tries to save the meeting but Miguel leaves.

Toledo arrives at his offices and Jeremias asks him how it went. Toledo is frustrated and says that Miguel doesn’t know who he is messing with. Jeremias says that he knew the idea of the microphone pen was a bad idea. Toledo doesn’t want to hear it. Then says they need to bug the phone. Jeremais warns that Miguel will see it coming after the microphone. Toledo says he wants to but the phone of the lawyer. The one from the boat,  Edgar Sanchez Morris.

Miguel is out running while he is on the phone with his office back in CDMX, they are discussing the plan, although at this point we don’t know what the plan is exactly beyond just wanting the tires to fail the test. My supposition here is that Miguel wants the test to fail so that the stock price will drop, he will buy stocks and then when Novotech proves the tires can do what they say, the prices will go up and Miguel will make tons of money.

The next scene has a man opening  the door of what looks to be a hotel room, and three men enter. The man who opened the door is identified as Vladimir Arcov, and Engineer of Novotech. It should be noted, that everyone is speaking Russian. Also, I am pretty sure that the man who entered is one of the Russian mob guys in cahoots with Miguel. They hand Arcov a tablet on which he sees his daughter, begging him to do what they ask or they will kill her. He tells the thugs, they are going to regret messing with him and he asks what they want.  We don’t see his answer to this, except that we can assume it has to do with the test.

Back in CDMX, Rosario is cleaning up the mess left by the pool by Chisca and Valentin. Peligros walks in asking for Chisca. Rosario says she is confessing or at least he hopes so. He asks for Jorge and Rosario says he has no idea. Peligros sees the mess and seems to make more of it than did Rosario and starts to try to make calls. Rosario asks Peligros if he should be scared. No answer.

Miguel walks into his hotel room and the viewers are given a nice view of his stripping down for a shower. But while he showers, Adela is laid out on her bed reliving the conversation she and Miguel had over breakfast when he asked her if she was sure she wanted to keep working for him.  Touching his hand and what that meant to her. She seems to have made up her mind about something and gets up.

Back in Miguels room we hear a knock on the door and Miguel opens the door to Adela dressed  in only a towel. Despite his state of undress, she asks to come in and he lets her into the room. I am interested in his psyche in this moment. Because I think that Adela has made it clear enough that she is interested in him to some extent and he has said plainly that he is interested in her. So obviously, he should have retired to the bathroom and at least put some pants on. However, I am sure the Rulli fans preferred the scene the way it played. Adela tells Miguel that she thinks she overreacted. Not by much, but still… She proceeds to tell him about her father being a mechanic and how his friend worked on race cars. Miguel explains that he knows all this, Adela looks surprised and asks him how he knows. Miguel reminds her that she told him everything the first night they met, over tacos. Adela chastises herself for being a “boca suelta” or loose mouth. Miguel apologizes for overstepping. That he should have talked to her first,  and promised to do so if he considered using her in a plan in the future. There was a cute moment when he starts to apologize and she won’t let him talk and he has to stop her so that he can speak. But at the end of it all, Adela agrees to go along with it, because she cannot refuse anything to do with race cars and asks him to tell her the plan. She also thanks him for such a “warm” welcome alluding to his intoweled (I know it’s not a word, but I think it suited the situation) state.

The next scene finds us watching a Isael Ramos (the right hand of the owner of Novotech) talking to three other men about racing the circuit. He tells them he wants them to run a good race but to keep the time above 1.5 minutes and he doesn’t want them to pass the Novotech car. The  men are identified as Paulo Canavalli, Ernst Geyne, and Sebastian Prado,   racecar drivers. They are not happy they are told to “throw” the race. Ernst asks if it is an order, and the man tells them to think of it as a favor in return for a very good financial compensation. All the while, a man is seeing the meeting from outside the door. He sees the men agree and shakes his head.

On a side note. I usually try to do my recaps as I watch the episode, instead of watching then recapping because I feel my responses to what is happening are more genuine. So when I speculate about something, I am doing so without having any prior knowledge. That being said, the first thing I began thinking here, is that the Russians and Miguel might be working different plans altogether, or that somehow, these seeming contrary plans are working to the same end.

Angel and Jorge are in the hospital talking in the hallway. Angel is asking Jorge who Chisca was with. Remember that the last time we saw Angel was seconds before Valentin knocked on Chisca’s door.  Jorge doesn’t give up any information. Says he got there and she was there on the floor and he called Angel. The doctor arrives and tells them that they pumped her stomach and that she is out of danger.  They are going to do blood tests, then Jorge goes in to see Chisca. Jorge tell her she scared him. Chisca, who seems very genuine, as opposed to her usual cynical self tells Jorge that she didn’t mean to scare him. Unfortunately, immediately after she asks for Valentin. Jorge tells her not to worry about him. I am sure he doesn’t want to tell her that the truth. But she asks…”why are you saying that.” And he tells her that Valentine went running like a coward. Chisca makes Jorge promise to not tell Angel or Miguel about Valentin, and not say anything about what happened, and that she just wants to go home. Jorge reluctantly agrees.

The doctor comes in and says that the blood work came back and that Chisca suffered from an overdose. (Really? Now way!!) He says that he won’t be able to discharge her from the hospital until they file a police report due to the substances found in her system. Chisca says she just wants to go home, and Jorge tells the doctor he wants to talk to him alone.   For only the second time this show, we see Jorge have some backbone, he becomes a man and not a weak, mumbling little boy. He offers the doctor money, and when he refuses, tells him that he has 15 minutes to make a good deal out of it, or it will be on his terms and they are leaving either way. This is one of the only times we see the Garza come out in Jorge. Although, I think that Adela kind of had his number when she accused him of pretending to not understand or get things, when it wasn’t convenient for him.

Miguel is on the phone with lawyer Edgar and apparently Toledo has gotten the wire tap. This guy is breaking more laws than he keeps. Miguel asks Edgar to hook him up with a car that is unnoticeable. Edgar agrees. Toledo says, we have him. Although, I am not sure what they think they have.

Angel and Jorge arrive back at the house with Chisca and Peligros is immediately questioning what happened. Angel tells him nothing…no big deal… they just got a little carried away. Said they drank too much. Peligros is taking that. The Garza’s are his responsibility. Chisca says Angel wasn’t there and that she just wants to rest. Peligros says that the next time the boss is away, he isn’t leaving them alone. Chisca is left alone and crying.

Howard Toledo is meeting with a cop, who insults his office. I am sure we are about to find out what he thinks he has. He tells the cop he needs his help. He tells him that Miguel is committing industrial sabotage, gives the cop the info where to find Miguel. The cop asks Toledo, what’s in it for him. Toledo says that once Miguel is behind bars, he can investigate his finances. I personally think that Miguel’s plan is deeper than them finding him doing something illegal with just a car. But we will see. I do like that the cop calls Miguel, Toledo’s new obsession. Because it is very true. Toledo is so desperate to get his “big fish” that he is breaking laws to get there. I imagine that he will have to pay a little before, or if he has any success in his plans.

Valentin is back in his hotel room talking to the maid. He asks a favor of the maid to call to see if Chisca is home. He spins a story for the maid, but we know that he wants to find out if Chisca came out of the situation he left her or not. Rosario answers and confirms that she is home and resting. Valentin gives the maid a tip for helping him.  He calls Piero, his Italian friend. He tells him that he is using Chisca to get to Miguel, to find out what business he has in the works and that he is going to use Chisca find out enough to take it all from him. She should have taken care of him when she had the chance. What a jerk of a friend. For being a good judge of character. Miguel seems to have a blind spot when it comes to Valentin. Or does he? We will see.

In Miami, the Russians come in and knock out one of the drivers. I can’t tell if it was one of the three we met earlier, or maybe the actual driver for Novotech. (Later in the episode we realize it was Sebastian Prado, Spanish Driver).

People are entering the racetrack and Paula is talking to the engineer, saying she is risking a lot with his product. He tells her its all good, don’t worry. Everyone is taking their seat to watch the race. Miguel included.  Adela isn’t with him, she is getting into a racing uniform and the thugs stripped the body  of the driver they knocked out. It looks like Adela is about to supplant one of the drivers.

Toledo and the cop, Ronnie show up at the racetrack. The security hasn’t seen anything suspicious and Toledo conveniently wanders into the bay. The guy we saw in the window earlier laughs ironically at Toledos comments that it is going to be a good race. He lets it slip that it won’t be a good race because the winner is obvious, Paul Parker, and that its just a show and not a real race, to make Novotech look good. This conflicts with what Toledo knows, so he tells the cop, something is going to happen,  but he has no idea what.

In the next scene we get a little clarification. The owner of Novotech, Paula Sandoval, introduces the drivers. It looks like Adela is driving in place of Sebastian Prado, one of the three drivers paid to loose to Novotech’s driver. The course is an obstacle course used to show the quality, speed, grip and most importantly the strength of the tires.

Valentin is back in his hotel room. He is setting something up. He tears his own shirt sleeve, pops all the buttons and then bangs his head into the wall, cutting open his eye. This guy is more than devious.

Ernst Geyne runs the course first. He has some issues, and completes the course in 1:45. Adela takes notes.

The second driver takes to the course Paulo Canavalli. He finishes in 2 minutes 8 seconds. During his run, Isael gets a call that  seems to concern the Paula, she gets up to see what is going on, with Miguel looking on all the while.

For the first time today, we see Jimena, she is at the office on the phone and she tells Trejo and Flaco that whoever she was on the phone with “will think about it.” They tell her that doesn’t mean anything, but she is sure that he will fall. Whoever he is. She sends a message and we see Miguel read the message “Novotech almost ready, Let’s hope Adela hits the mark”

The Spaniard Sebastian Prado aka “Adela” is about to take the course. She is about to start the race when we hear Miguel’s voice tell her that she needs to complete the course in faster than 1:30. Adela takes off and manages the course easily where others screwed up. Paula is freaking out that she is going to fast and that their driver won’t be able to win. Isael tells her to not worry and remember that their car is better. I might mention here that when the announcer first announced the drivers, he stated that all of the cars were exactly the same. Adela finishes the course in 1 minute 22 seconds.

Toledo and cop Ronnie are inspecting the locker room and bathroom  while the races are going on. Toledo finds blood on the floor of the bathroom.

Miguel is such a scoundrel, he tells the Paula, how great it was that the Spanish driver was so competitive because it will prove how efficient the Novotech tires are.

Parker, the Novotech driver takes off. The announcer starts off by saying that the driver something is happening, the tires are not providing stability and the driver is losing control of the car along with precious seconds. Then he says that the driver is trying to accelerate but the tires aren’t helping. Suddenly the tires catch fire. The race is over.

Paula Sandoval is chewing out the engineer who invented them. He is saying this shouldn’t be happening, she is saying that he sold her a patent that was supposed to raise her company to the top and now it is getting sunk.  Miguel has a smirk on his face the entire time.

Toledo and cop Ronnie find Prado, he tells them that some Russians knocked him out. The cop comes to the course trying to expose the fake driver. Adela senses the gig is up and takes off in the car. Toledo goes chasing her and Miguel takes off running. Toledo catches up to the car but it is empty.

At the Garza home in CDMX, we see the plan of Valentin play out. He claims that they must have gotten bad stuff because the last thing he remembers was being at the house and dancing with Chisca and then he found himself in the middle of the park in the middle of the day, beat up and robbed. He is trying to get the sympathy vote and claim he wasn’t in his right mind when he left her. Chisca seems to believe him.

Back at the shop, the engineer is running tests on the tires to see what happened. Everything is in order and normal. They suggest running the tests again. The cops say they can’t, they have to take in the tires for further analysis. The woman gets mad because the investors are all going to leave.

Toledo is circling the lot looking for something. Miguel and Adela are walking, smiling, her still in the drivers suit. Toledo sees them. Miguel spots Toledo and says, “Howard, they’re on to us.” Adela says “run,” and Toledo is fumbling with his phone as Miguel and Adela run across a bridge.

Wells that’s it for tonight episode. I guess we will see on Monday how Miguel and Adela get away from Toledo. I am also making the guess that the guy on the phone with Jimena was good ol’ Isael and that Miguel’s plan is to somehow buy the patent from Novotech or something of the sort, now that they have failed their test. The only loose cable that I have no idea about is why did they have to threaten the engineer? To say nothing was wrong with the tire? What do you all think? Have a great weekend and we will see you next week.

Good Morning friends of El Dragon. First of all, please forgive the vast amount of spelling errors and typos from this recap. If something doesn’t make sense let me know, I can a clarify here. I wrote it in a hotel room with tons of distractions and was too sleepy to fully edit before I went to bed. Thanks.

Good day. Pati-OH! Esther, you did amazingly well despite the time crunch and exhaustion. THank you for a very entertaining read :-)

Regarding--

Valentin the not so valiant: rather than try to revive her when she is unresponsive, or take any emergency action, he gets dressed and bails! What a coward!! I can think of other more appropriate words, but not sure how G rated this needs to be. I can think of a few choice words myself, but I will limit myself to @hole.

Jorge: He calls Angel to come for Chisca. I am unsure why he calls Angel first and not just an ambulance. He must be wearing an invisible dunce hat, but he sure was on fire with the doctor...and all to cover up his sister's assinine mistake...which she will probably make again UGHH!

Miguel" After clarifying why she is upset, Miguel looks even more confused than before. Is he really that dense that he can't see that the girl is falling for him...and vice versa??? For a smart guy, he is really stoopid!

we don’t know what the plan is exactly beyond just wanting the tires to fail the test. My supposition here is that Miguel wants the test to fail so that the stock price will drop, he will buy stocks and then when Novotech proves the tires can do what they say, the prices will go up and Miguel will make tons of money. Good thought! I would have never figured that out, but then these scenes really don't float my boat...other than seeing Adela put the pedal to the medal.

What a jerk of a friend. For being a good judge of character. Miguel seems to have a blind spot when it comes to Valentin. More evidence of how Miguel is not as intelligent as we would hope ACK!

He [Valentin] is trying to get the sympathy vote and claim he wasn’t in his right mind when he left her. Chisca seems to believe him. Stoopidity must run in the family. What an idiot Chisca is turning out to be.

Miguel and Adela are walking, smiling, her still in the drivers suit. Toledo sees them. And yet another piece of evidence that Mig has some brain cells missing. Hs he never heard of the saying "Hope for the best; plan for the worst?" He could have at least given his jacket to Adela to hide part of her suit!

Thanks again, Esther! you knocked it out of the park with all the insanity in this episode.

Jardinera and Esther, thanks a bunch for yesterday's and today's recaps. Entertaining and detailed. With so much action and new characters introduced each night, I could never keep up without you.

I am going to have to FFW through Chisca. Bad enough she fell for her rapist, but now she buys his cockamamie story for leaving her in OD to die.

Right now, I'm rooting for Toledo/Ulises/Tax Man (hope I got the names right). Mig is certainly better than Pig, but I don't like him messing with those tires. If I'm not mistaken, Novotech is not a dirty drug dealer so I don't call them fair game.

SR is in muy impeccable shape. The actresses must be grinning from ear to ear inside when a scene calls for them to get up close and personal with his sizzling shirtless self.

Hola amigos y amigas
Esther et al--A big thank you for providing the recaps for this smartly done, really professional production. Your recaps reflect that in the writing.

I'm trying desperately to catch up so I can play in the current sandbox. Only on Epi 5, watching and reading and trying not to see what is going on in Epi 15.

It did catch my eye that Kirby is baaaaack (YAY). I'll be seeing all of you later on in the week.

At a wrestling tournament in Las Vegas right now, the epitome of hurry up and wait. Thanks for all of your comments. Something occurred to me, that I was too tired to realize last night. In the closing scene, does Miguel say Howard? Which is Toledo’s first name? I am not in a position to check right now. Was this a mistake? Or is a hint that Miguel knows exactly who Toledo is and the whole chase is a set up.

Also, sorry I have been absent from the other recaps. This show is good but hard to take in small doses as the continuation of the story suffers. So I have found myself watching all 4 episodes on Thursday and Friday for the Friday recap, that way the story is current in my head. So I am not reading cause I don’t want spoilers:).

anyone else feel like that. With all of the scene jumping, I am finding. That I enjoy it much more binging the week at once.

RgV you killed me with Valentin the not so Valiant! That was perfect!! And I agree, Miguel is sometimes brilliant but it seems that on the personal level, dim, very dim.

Niecie, As far as him taking down Novotrch, I think that is why we see them paying off the drivers to come in slower than their own. To show that they too are dirty and not being honest about their product. Which is not drug dealing but illegal nonetheless. Because Miguel would be too in the wrong if he took out a perfectly upright company.

Anita... welcome back and yes, I hear you... hate spoilers. So take your time! But it is a much more interesting show, IMHO in bunches instead of night by night.

I’ll check in later friends, my son is up.

Esther, thank you so much. This show is different and interesting and moves along quite steadily.

Val is despicable. Mig might have a high IQ, but his EQ ( emotional quotient) seems to be lacking. He doesn't seem to be very good at reading people. Sometimes looking good in a towel just isn't enough. I suppose that once the bad girls back off trying to seduce him, he will fall for down to earth Adela and find happiness like he had with his wife.

OT...So , your son is a wrestler! What weight class does be wrestle in,? My hub was a championship heavy weight wrestler in high school , but I hated to watch his matches...too upsetting watching that struggle between 2 people.

Thank you, Esther, for this compete recap. So I'm wondering, patio, why Univision has hyped this TN so much.: "The series that will mark a before and after on Hispanic television in the United States," and "...the characters that will give life to the most important series of modern television in the United States." What is it about this TN to cause such a fuss? I'm wondering if by portraying the cartel violence and government corruption they hope it will stir people to do something about it. Has this not been portrayed in the narco TNs? I don't watch those.

And then there's this from the news magazine, The Week: "Seventy percent of the 132,823 guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico from 2009 to 2018 originated in the U.S. Most of those firearms were purchased legally at gun shows or stores by "straw purchasers" who passed them on to cartels or middlemen. The entire country of Mexico has only one legal gun store."

Susanlynn. I have two sons who wrestle. One is 14 and wrestles 190, not yet a true heavyweight but heading that way. And the other is 9, at 65 lbs. they are going into day 2,2-0. Yes, it is enough to make my hands shake by the end of the match. Oldest in the finals tomorrow, and youngest has a bigger bracket and has a few matches to get on the podium. Thanks for the interest.

Yes, high IQ, low EQ.

Itha, in answer to your question, I don’t know. Maybe we have to see it all play out. I think they emphasized the idea of an antihero. Miguel isn’t a true hero. And so it’s hard to like him as one.

It seems to me that this is Univision’s answer to Telemundo’s wildly popular and successful narco novela “La Reina del Sur” parts 1& 2 (part 2 just finished up a couple of months ago) with the international intrigue (with filming abroad), bigger than life action and , as Esther pointed out, an anti-hero as the main character.

Not to mention that it's another bid to get more male viewers. Although I have to say that I prefer the other kinds of stories.

Ester..Thank you thank you.

Well, UA, having Miggy trotting around in a towel clinging on by a couple of hairs is not making me tune in every night.

But then, a chick with Adela's looks who is into CARS? I'm in. But why did she continue to wear the driver suit (which incidentally fit very well) after she ditched the car? She would have been fine, this is Miami you know, just striding across the bridge in her underwear.

Is Chisca really smart enough to keep alive, given that her lifestyle almost guarantees she will pass on her genes to offspring? Jorge TOLD her he saw Valiant skeedaddling. Um. ya know, the guy who raped you and left you to die after enjoying some nose candy HE provided?

I still have not decoded the Novatech Pi tires angle. Obvi it worked out per Miggygar's plan, but we have not seen any tangible rewards yet. Novatech may not be a dirty drug dealer, but I bet the Green dress / Red dress chick owner sure is pushy.

OT...kirby...speaking of cars , I finally bought one 2 weeks ago after doing a lot of research and having several people look at cars with me.

And you are now driving Adela's hand me down with Novatech tires?
An F250 4 wheel drive for the snow?
Toyota Camry?
Honda CRV?
Or Subaru Forester................
I'm sure it is a chick car like one of the last three.

Thanks for the recap, Esther.

There are so many characters coming and going that I wonder how long this will really be in the end.

Chisca may not live long enough to pass on her genes and I doubt she wants to ruin her figure doing that, anyway. She survived this time but the worst thing about this situation is that Miguel is in the dark about what this so-called best friend of his has done to her. What worries me more is the possibility that he won't believe it when someone finally tells him.

Urban, what is maddening, is how well these TN numbskulls can keep secrets. In real life, if someone (like Jorge) saw Not-Valiant leaving, AND if he actually told Chisca, one or both of them would melt down a couple of cell towers telling Miguel. People generally CAN NOT KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT.

"Psst, don't tell anybody, but did you know....blah, blah..."
Translation" "Put this in a header on Caray and on Facebook."

And is bipolar Chisca not going to turn on Not-Valiant when she in in unhappy low mode?

Adela is the singular girl I have seen thus far who seems normal with some healthy self respect. (and a nice dose of hormones) She was indignant that Miguel brought her to Miami for THAT ulterior motive, rather than the ulterior motive she had assumed and was fine with.

OT...kirby....you were close...Subaru Legacy..the car my friend's son the police captain drives which he told me is the safest car on the road. I stewed over this decision for about a year asking advice from you my family and Hub's friends .I never bought a car by myself.

WAY OT:
Susie: Well, that is off your bucket list. Good Choice. Subaru is one of the overlooked gems in today's car world, but they really know what they are doing. For example, my big generator for hurricanes has a Subaru engine. Yes, the same Subaru company.

I am sort of the same way. I never buy a car when I NEED one, like when one is inoperational. I decide what I want and pay cash and buy it on my terms. So many smarmy car salesmen have looked absolutely astonished when I walk away from a 'deal' that is 'just too good to pass up'. Never buy a car the first time you look at it. That's for kids.

Secrets have been the main plot currency of telenovelas since the beginning of television. Many of them have entire plots based on family secrets and no revelation until ultimos capitulos.

BTW, I hope all of you will be watching Cuna de Lobos, which begins tomorrow night.

UA..I am planning to watch Cuna. The original was on before I discovered telenovelas ( Alborada. ") I like these shorter form of telenovelas.

OT......Kirby ..it was a big decision , but 2 of hub's friends went along with me several times to test drive and another set up an Internet deal for me that I eventually took . It took a village.

:-)

I noticed that LooneyFusion has coined a new word, or at least new to Mother Google and me, "Teleseries'. I have not really stumbled across the new meaning of this new word though. I suspect it has to do with shorter TeleNovelas or something.

From Esther's recap and RGV: " For being a good judge of character. Miguel seems to have a blind spot when it comes to Valentin. More evidence of how Miguel is not as intelligent as we would hope ACK!"

Hmmm..sometimes I suspect we equate success with smarts, when in TNs (of course not in real life...ha) it might simply be lack of principles. Real smarts not required. What is it high powered salesmen always say? "The easiest mark is another salesman." Prob applies to TN crooks too.

I don't think that Mig comes across as much of a galan. He gives me a"meh" vibe kind of like Carlos the supposed galan who was pretty dim and sleepy in Usurpadora which just ended. I guess the days of heroes in telenovelas are gone. We have entered the age of anti heroes. I am not happy with this change.

"Mig might have a high IQ, but his EQ ( emotional quotient) seems to be lacking."

Agreed. Very good point, SusanLynn. All three of the Garza siblings have deep seeded emotional issues. Miguel is the best at covering it up, due to his Japanese coping mechanisms and training, but he is every bit as dysfunctional as the other two in some ways, and not being able to find the happy ending he hoped for with Asya has closed him off emotionally even more, for now. Adela may be the light he needs but he is ignoring the obvious "green light" signal she is giving him. My guess is he sees her as someone he could genuinely fall for, unlike Karina, and is trying to keep her in the friend zone. But how long can he keep that up? Jimena might be another good and blonde distraction for him... She is certainly willing.

Why does Miguel have such a blind spot for Valentin? Well, Valentin is a stone cold sociopath and good at deceiving and manipulating. He also introduced Miguel to Asya, which just cemented Valentin as a worthy friend in his mind. Something needs to happen to rip the blinders off.

As for NovaTech, yup this is another brilliant, criminally minded, money laundering scheme orchestrated by Miguel with the help of his new Russian associates. He did ask for a getaway car from his lawyer friend so that will probably be their way out of this on Monday. I don't think Howard is a match for Miguel. He's just a dope obsessed with making a name for himself.

Miguel was raised in an amoral family and is kind of amoral himself but he's not evil and he's not a killer. Yet. It will be interesting to see if he starts to regret any of his choices as this narco drama progresses. And what makes Adela so open to adopting his ways? Like someone here said, she is the closest to normal in this whole cast of gray characters. Oops, I forgot Hector, Miguel's journalist friend. Unlike Valentin, Miguel is a true old friend and he has a moral compass. Their different ways of thinking could clash but Hector is a friend Miguel can trust.

Susanlynn, "I don't think that Mig comes across as much of a galan. He gives me a"meh" vibe" I will gladly sit at this table with you. I can count the number of characters I like on one hand (and not use all my fingers on that hand) ;-( The scenes I look forward to are the ones with Adela and anyone else who tries to get the best of her, like Chisca or Jimena. I really get a kick out of her squishing them like snails. She's my heroine in this TN.

Kirby, I believe "teleseries" is being used to refer to the programs which are (hoped) to have additional seasons or are a part of a group of programs which are grouped together such as the 25-episode shows that are currently being aired. Their focus is not on romance but other issues such as drugs, crime, revenge, etc. This is just my educated guess so don't quote me :-)

Becky. I was writing while you posted. Very good analysis on Miguel!

Thank you, Rgv Chick. :)

"Miguel is a true old friend and he has a moral compass."

From my post above, that should've read "Hector is a true friend and he has a moral compass." I think Miguel has a streak of decency and his own moral code (I.e. he would never deliberately abuse or lie to a woman or friend like Valentin would) but having been raised in a family of organized crime, both his family in Mexico and his Yakuza mentor in Japan, he's used to breaking the rules in business dealings. The fact that at this point he's not the type of criminal who would order a hit on a real enemy, like Pig (perfect nickname for Epigmenio), will probably cost him. But the main villain needs to stay alive to create more obstacles and danger for Miguel.

Another clue to Miguel's psychology is the lyrics in the theme song "El Guerrero" (The Warrior) which seems to be sung from Adela's point of view. The warrior loses in love after the sacrifice of his beloved (Asya's suicide) and closes his heart to love. The female protagonist falls unconditionally in love with him but he will do everything to guard his heart from falling in love again.

My guess is Miguel will embrace his playboy ways (another James Bond aspect of this character) until Adela wears him down. But in the meantime, hopefully they bring on another love interest for Adela, as she is too pretty and sassy to sit on the sidelines waiting for him to be ready for her.

Becky, ""Hector is a true friend and he has a moral compass." I agree that Hector is a true friend. He has followed his moral compass, but his EQ might be equivalent to Miguel's. From what I have gathered, he and Claudia were in a relationship before he married his wife; and the chemistry between them seems to still be in tact. It is obvious (to me) that Claudia still has very strong feelings for him; and he seems to pick up on it, but then retreats...and sometimes he is even a tease. I'm just wondering if he will be able to restrain himself especially since his wife seems to be very jealous and demanding.

I can see many of the James Bond aspects in Mig's character, but I just can't see James Bond having that deer-in-the-headlights look that Miguel had when Adela walked off :-)

RGV Chick: I should note that Renata Notni is fluent in English.

Steve then why doesn't she answer my emails?

:-)

So sorry I was too busy this weekend to comment, but Esther, you did a great job covering all the story. I watched it through on Friday and sometimes I miss a thing here and there, but you filled in the parts I missed and did a great job.

I am still not figuring out what Howard the IRS guy wants. He's acting like the CIA, not the IRS. Does Miguel owe taxes in the USA or what? That's all the IRS should be concerned with is that people earning money in the USA pay their taxes. I do not think Miguel is earning income in the USA.

Valentin is a total jerk and a total cad. There is nothing redeeming about him. Is Miguel too dumb to figure him out?

Esther--Muchisimas Gracias. All caught up. Trying to recap Hijas today, so this has to be all you get from me today.

You indeed have coined a new term to go into our Caray Dictionary:

Intoweled State – Applied to a galán who appears at a door, wrapped only in a towel to greet and admit a young lady; this state being superior to when a galán, wrapped only in a towel is having a phone conversation in full view of cameras, since this state is merely for the benefit of viewing public (see FC, TMBMOE, in MEPS).

Cynthia--Howard was originally going after the short-haired blonde Russian. Then he connected up Miguel with her and wants the bigger fish. Right now he only suspects Mig is doing something illegal. You can get criminals on tax evasion--it's in the tax code.

Anita, what part of the IRS code is that? I didn't think that foreigners who did not generate income in the USA could be prosecuted on tax evasion. I know that the IRS may collect taxes on illegal income, whether it be from drugs or prostitution in the USA. I just don't know where in the tax code it say that foreigners who generate income out of the USA can be prosecuted by the IRS. It's been a long time since I've been a registered tax preparer. I work as an accountant, but I don't do taxes anymore.

Cynthia - you may have me there. I didn't read that far so I can't say ill-gotten gains, not gained in the States by foreigners can be taxed. The rationale does seem at odds. I'll check again after I finish Hijas.

Hilarious!! Awesome Caray Definition!!

(see FC, TMBMOE, in MEPS).which shows are these? They didn't ring a bell immediately.

Cynthia - I agree, the IRS is not in this business, but since his profession is about money, and since Capon got put away on Tax evasion charges, they just went with it? Way to scare the unknowing, non-English speaking, tax payer into thinking that dealing with the IRS is a way to get chased through the streets. Not a good look.

Esther
