El Dragón #42, 11/27/19: Does it Have to be All About Chisca?
Will Chisca be the instrument of Miggy’s downfall?
Back home in CDMX, Chisca has a sorrowful reunion with Dora. It doesn’t last long. She’s soon at the mercy of Mig’s (righteous) wrath. What was she thinking? She exposed herself and the family once again. She could have been the one who died. She can’t answer his questions directly. He claims he’s only judging her and her behavior. (Ishiro stands behind her, just out of focus.) Mig mentions how the Prosecuting Attorney has him in her sights at the precise moment she pulls this stunt. Chisca grabs onto whatever she can to absolve herself. “That’s what it’s all about—your businesses. You care nothing about your family. You only care about yourself.” Well, it doesn’t sting Mig the way she had hoped. So she goes for the self-pity. She declares she just lost the only friend she had. Dora welcomes her back into her arms. Ishiro has a stoic look on his face. It can’t be read. Is it pity, anger, concern? Maybe all three.
Corruption is pervasive among the rich and powerful, according to Adri’s parents
The family’s attorney has joined them in their bereavement. The two are still railing against the Garzas. The whole family is sick. Mama wants to sue. She wants them to pay. The attorney says that before they can do that, they need concrete evidence of wrongdoing, regardless of whose shoulders it falls on, including Chisca's. They also need to wait for the official cause of death. He mentions that the phone messages are important to show possible conspiracy; then they can file a suit. File a suit? Mama wants Chisca to pay by going to prison. The attorney talks of financial compensation; the parents talk prison. Impasse, maybe.
Fighting dirt with dirt (and not OxyClean)
Claudia is convinced ePigmeany-o is behind all the shootings, based on the ballistic tests. They need those official reports. Without them, it’s only Hec’s word. They can’t get at the reports. Clau suggests they fight dirty, as if they were also bad guys. She knows who to ask for help. They go see Marcos, the friendly, honest cop. He says it’s illegal (duh) to do what they are thinking of doing. Hec says there is no other way. Marcos says he’d be risking his whole career. Hec begs him for help. He mentions Edna. Marcos’ ears perk up, “Edna?” he queries. “The Trapper of Traffickers?” (Sounds Good in Spanish, too: Casadora de Trafficantes) Hec suggests it would be a feather in Marcos’ cap to be the one who brings down the gang. Marcos mulls it over.
Strategy is not a Game
Miguel is having a strategy conference. They have to get Adri’s phone before it is handed over to the police. Ishiro is on it. Peligros then shows Mig the baggie of their stuff. He recognized it immediately. Peli says he’s checked, but hasn’t come up with an answer as to how it got into Chisca’s hands. He sure it wasn’t any of their men who gave it to her. Mig’s conclusion is that she stole it. Peli then admits he gave some of it to Jimena, at her request, for a client in a show of quality and good faith. Mig is gobsmacked to hear Jimie’s name.
[Actually this is the end of Epi #41, but I’ll leave it here so’s not to confuse the issue any further.]
Binoculars, great for undercover work, but knowing how to pick locks is even better
Ishiro scopes out Adri’s house with a set of powerful binoculars. He sees the lawyer on the phone. Then he sees Adri’s phone(s) on the table. He has seen what he needs to see and departs. Inside, the attorney is talking to the Medical Examiner. He is told Adri died of an overdose. It was a very high quality drug. Mama remembers that Chisca’s grandfather was involved in trafficking, or something or other like that. She always thought it was gossip, but she bets that’s the origin of their wealth. If that is true, they can go after the whole family, not just Chisca. Since the texts on the phone are critical and now they know Adri died of an overdose, Mama wants to know if they can now go after the whole family. The attorney says yes, but he looks like this might be his death sentence.
Mig vs. Jimie--tn trope wins
Miguel confronts Jimena about the baggie in Chisca’s possession. She denies by not denying giving it to her using a tried and true tn trope, “How can you believe that of me?” Mig says that’s what Chisca says. “Oh, and you’re going to believe her over me? You know me well. Chisca’s lie suits you perfectly.” She accuses him of making it up so he can break up with her and fly to Adela’s arms and what better way than to believe Chisca. Mig says to leave Adela out of the mix. She continues, “How can you think I’d harm the sister of the man I love. Although that might bother you to hear it, I love you.” Mig claims he doesn’t need an excuse to end their relationship. But maybe it’s time to end it. Jimie acts as though it doesn’t matter to her, but she’s probably seething inside. She asks to be left alone.
The non-accidental Accident
After dropping Ishiro off, Peligros keeps driving. We hear him say he hates what he has to do…which is to hit a car parked outside Adri’s home. Inside, they all hear the noise. The men tell Mama to stay put. They go outside. Meanwhile, Ishiro picks the lock on a back gate. Peligros acts a bit woozy. The men are concerned. He claims he’s ok, doesn’t need to see a doctor. He promises to pay the damages. Inside, Ishiro wanders about until he finds the two phones. As he grabs them, he almost drops a glass. Good catch, Ishi. Peligros checks his watch and continues to declare he’s ok. He gives them his contact information and drives away. Mama has been watching all this from the window. Ishiro slips out the way he came in unnoticed. The attorney finishes up the paperwork. Then they discover the phones are gone. They were robbed!
Jorge comes in with some truth
Dora and Jorge are in the kitchen talking. He thought Chisca was better and in control of herself. She was even working at the office with them. He says Chisca has an addiction problem and any little thing could destabilize her. He wonders what it was in this instance. Dora is very gentle with him, but is denying to herself that they hadn’t done everything they could for Chisca. (Remember, she had been committed to a rehab facility several times and the last one was the hilarious chase barefoot down the street in her hospital gown.)
Edna the Procurer
Edna knows she’s so close she can almost smell them. (Sentir in Spanish can sometimes mean either feel or smell, take your pick.) She’s in her office talking to Gary. She’s convinced they must find the guns and the killer of the two men (the authentic delivery guy and the one that delivered the bomb). Gary feels that if they find that person, they will also find the one who planned the bombing. Edna comes back with, no one bombs a businessman for no reason and they both know Miguel Garza is not an ordinary businessman.
Mig vs. NotValid and he weasels out once more regarding his divorce
Mig has been on the phone with his best old bud, NoValue Whatsoever, over there in Spain. ValueLess gets the dope on the dope. Mig wants to know what’s up with his relationship with Chisca? He tells Mig the divorce is going slower than expected. Isabel is not well, she’s in a very unstable condition. He can’t just walk away and treat her like trash. He’s still serious about Chisca and offers to talk to her. He’s the one Chisca needs right now. Mig accepts, but doesn’t look too convinced.
The Watergate Burglars are Outdone by the Forensic Burglars
Marcos and Hec have managed to easily enter the building and subsequently made their way to the office where the original ballistic reports are kept. They hide momentarily from a security guard making his rounds. They go back to work, find what they want and leave. Boy if it were that easy, think of all the documents in the world that could be snatched up for justice (or not).

Tamales almost get Mig into bed
Rosario brings Adela a couple of tamales. Mig follows him in and stays. Adela offers him one of her tamales and he accepts. (Hmmm. Could there be a double entendre in there somewhere? Nope, it’s just a tamale.) So they share the tamales and nothing more. Adela says she’s been thinking about Miriam a lot. The last time they talked, her family was having money problems. He steps up and says he should have thought of that before. He’ll see that the family is taken care of. Mig tells Ade she can invite Vic to the house any time. Ade tells him she and Vic broke up. Mig tells her he and Jimie ended it. Ade remarks that it doesn’t sound so bad. They giggle.
Peligros is Peligroso
Peli reports to Dora about lifting the phones and erasing any traces of the “incident” at the ranch. Dora thanks him and then asks him to do something else. She wants him to keep an eye on Adela. She’s very important to Miguel. But no, it doesn’t have anything to do with what they talked about a couple of days ago, she says, lying through her pretty lips. Peligros says that if anyone threatens the family, he personally will kill them.
And Baby makes three, or two, or one
A bus arrives with granny and baby on board. Ana and Hec are there to meet them. There is a happy reunion. Hec wants to pursue his quest alone. Ana won’t hear of it. They are in this together.
Peligros is a Gentleman
Peli shows up at Adri’s wake, but doesn’t enter the house. Now the parents know they've been punked. He graciously returns Adri’s phones (I think one belonged to the mother) and he and the whole Garza family are sorry for their loss. They stare at him in disbelief. He tells them if they need anything at all, not to hesitate to call on the Garza family.
>>FF Trejo and Flaco are installing the new, very secure, computers at the office as it is undergoing renovations after the bombing. They seem to be spending a lot of time together.
Jimena is, well, a Scheming Blonde Bombe
Jimie, all alterada, has barged in on Chisca. How dare she have fingered her for the drugs. They had a bargain. Chisca says she didn't say anything to Mig, but didn’t deny it either. The bargain apparently was for good stuff instead of street stuff, in return for, I think, separating Mig from Adela. Chisca is amused. The chofer had Miguel from the beginning. Jimie disputes that. She’s very important to Mig. Now Chisca laughs in her face. “Just because you slept with him once, oh excuse me, several times, doesn’t make you lovers,” and proceeds to throw Jimie out.
Happy Rats, Happy Mig
Miguel is reporting to Dr. Farchala all the sensations he felt after just one pill. Doc shows him the happy rats. He’s sure there will be no side effects with stronger doses. Mig thinks the stuff is ready to launch. Doc gives him the formula and a vial with the essence. Mig tells him that in a few days they’ll be moving him to his new digs and immediately start production. Mig puts on a Happy Face.
Ishiro vs. NoValor, but score another for NoVal
The Spanish creep shows up on the Garza doorstep, almost as soon as he and Mig hung up their call. Ishiro bars the way. Rosario referees. Chisca hears his voice and emerges from her withdrawal stupor. She takes NoVal away. Surprise! He missed her and came to see her. She’s really crushing on him. Ishiro is led the other way by Rosario. Val can tell something is wrong. Chisca tells him about Adri. Then she tells him how she saw him through his computer with his wifey all lovey dovey. He’s incensed she would do that. Well, she found out he was still with her. Val realizes he’s been punked. He tries to get unpunked by taking the romantic route. He asks her to marry him. She squeals in delight.
Bombs Away
AwHec brings the ballistic reports to Edna. He says it proves the same gun that was used to kill his sister was used to kill those two men. This is the official report. Marcos is with him to give him some authenticity. It was not an AK47 that killed his sister. Marcos fudges on how they got the report only alleging it was, well, a bit illegal. AwHec fingers Carlos Duarte as protecting ePig, whose right-hand man was on the trigger that killed all three persons. He finally gives up the name, Tacho. It was his gun. Edna still wants to know who planned the bombing of the Naga offices. AwHec thinks the same people are behind the bombing. Find the shooter, find the bomber (if it were that easy…). One more thing. How does Miguel Garza figure in all this? She knows Hector knows Miguel Garza.
Almost divorced is not the same as divorced
Mig walks in on Chisca and the untruthful NoValidity still celebrating with lots of smooching. Val lets him in on the reason. He’s in love with Chisca and has just asked her to marry him. The look on Mig’s face is priceless—he starts to ask about Isabel (and her instability). Val cuts him off and said that it’s all taken care of. Not to worry. Almost divorced. Mig still has his doubts, but he sort of smiles.

RGV--What do you do with a person like Chisca…? Sending her to rehab several times and then that weird personality change facility she escaped from. She gets out and goes right back to her old ways. If the family didn't have plenty of money, she'd have been dead on the streets or prostituting under some pimp to survive.
And Kirby, not everyone chooses prostitution for a career. It seems to me that there have been enough news reports of breaking up gangs that traffick women across borders, or within borders, to make it believable. It's certainly not a victimless crime to them.
Gato has been given enough money from Adela to at least buy himself a new jacket. I guess we are to believe he is so down and out he can't afford anything except staying alive. He is a sorry, lost soul. I don't think he'll ever recover his former sense of purpose--belonging to a gang. If I felt Dora was justified, she should concentrate on finding him and have Peli eliminate him before Adela can bring him to Mig's attention again. IF--something happens to him now, Adela may think Mig had something to do with it, rather than Dora. Interesting twist.

Oh, is anyone surprised Gato IS still alive. He has gone to Tacho a couple of times. Tacho should know he presents a danger. Tacho has no qualms about dispatching estorbos.
You'd think ePig would have gotten rid of him long ago not so much for saving the kids (even though they were unintended collateral damage) but because Gato knew who really wanted Lamberto's son dead and who carried it out.

Anita, yeah, I tend to think of plain old prostitution like the Biblical 'Oldest Profession'. Human trafficking is a whole 'nuther ballgame, and I don't even lump that in. It is more like a perverted form of slavery.
Needless to say, Dora is on my sheetlist. If she were more like Peligros, kill to save a family member, I would not hate her as much. At least now those gruesome scenes out at the ranch don't even bother me anymore. :-)e

I have known her for a long time , but she was surprised to find out how long I have been communicating here with fellow telenovela lovers. I told her about all the clever, funny, smart people who recap and comment here. I felt like my old friend who knows just about everything about me was getting a peek into my guilty pleasure !

You're right, Kirby, about Gato not knowing he interrupted Dora--he knocked first and she got out of sight. However, SHE now knows what he looks like (at least from the back and profile AND jacket). The ever-willing Peligros could be asked by Dora to track him down.

Most of my non-Spanish speaking friends (and some of my Latin American friends, including my new granddaughter-in-law) don't understand my devotion (or is it addiction) to Caray. I just can't talk about it and have it make sense to them. Most of them left soap operas and that genre long ago. And me? When I worked and was raising a family, I thought watching soap operas was a waste of time.
Look at me now. I've been retired almost as long as I've been visiting Caray. Dare I admit, until Cuna ended, I was watching FIVE Spanish language telenovelas a day. Manana, Hijas, Cuna, Dragon and Hotel (although this is a re-watch and enjoying it thoroughly the second time around). Thank goodness for >>FF.
I do like movies, BBC series (AND Outlander), love to read, keep up with the news as well as travel, attend cultural activities, cook, get together with family and friends and have good health. Retirement has been good to me!
More than that, Caray is a welcoming community that makes me want to participate and keep up.

Anita : Gato: If I remember right, Gato didn't seek out Adela, she sought him.. I think she just happened to notice an out of place looking fellow closer than he should have been to their building several times and took notice of him, with her being in and out of the building more than the others with chofering and errands.

Anita, yes, it is not just the telenovelas that are addictive..it is caray! I was telling my long time friend that we have sadly lost some of the folks who recapped and commented on caray..Carlos, Madeline. And how we miss them the way one would miss a friend. You start to recognize someone's "voice" even without their name . " Oh , that 's Anita. " " That's judyb! " My friend laughed when I told her about kirby 's running joke about detention hall since she and I used to Procter detention hall together. Even though we don't see each other here at caray , we certainly get to know the mind and heart of the people recapping and commenting here.

Kirby--You are right again! How soon we forget--or lose the thread (trying to keep 3 or 4 stories straight--in the same episode, let alone stories. Yes, he was hanging around--maybe he was actually watching Miguel and Adela just saw him a couple of times out of place. Should have remembered Adela's run-in with the hood rats and her Domino escape. Geesh. We should have recaps of recaps, eh?
