El Dragón #64-65, 12/30/19: Confrontations and Distractions

Mexico: Tacho confronted the Pig, forcing him to his knees for what he had done to him and his family in the past.

Dora and Miguel had a disagreement about his recent business moves. She didn't like him making himself the man of the hour over the petro cleanup, saying this wasn't part of “the agenda.” Adela came in to say she was going out. Dora tried with her unsolicited advice and Adela put her off with the “I'lll take that under advisement” comment. She showe them the morning paper the story about the prison escape, which distracted them from further argument.

Tacho showed the Pig the videos of El Lobo with the money and getting it on with Carmen. That really burned his tail.

Miguel spoke with Jésus about Mauricio, who was a good friend to Duarte, therefore seriously corrupt. Edna was squeaky clean. Sayanes was made to help in the election.

Duarte spoke with (???) someone he can no longer trust . He was understandably peeved about the escape and determined to make the prison director pay for his negligence.

Tacho forced the Pig out into the open where the Pig began to negotiate for his life by offering Tacho a partnership. He might be dumb enough to accept the offer.

Adela met Carmen at the gym and they went shopping together. They talked about, clothes, “Maira's” fake husband (Victor), and Cuidad Jimenez.

Howard looked over his info at the IRS where a colleague brought in a piece of intel about Wissa, which allegedly makes things for cars but actually is for laundering money. Howard told someone to put on the opera music. [Does this man not appreciate other operas beyond Rigoletto?]

Mexico: Flaco, Kenia, and Jorge had problems with network security invasions. Flaco told Jorge to call Miguel right away.

Peligros tailed Adela to make sure she was safe. She asked Carmen about who had been her best friend in Cuidad Jimenez and that turned out to be Lucia. Carmen confided her adultery to “Maira”, who eventually changed the subject.

Miguel went to the office where he was told about the network problem. The source was identified as being the IRS. Kenia suggested a new firewall. Miguel told them to call him if anything else came up.

El Lobo, Pig, and Tacho drove to the stash, where Pig verbally whipped El Lobo with his sins of disloyalty. Pig forced El Lobo to his kness in front of the open hatch with the stacks upon stacks of little green pieces of paper. Tacho shot El Lobo execution-style and his body ended up on the stacks of cash. [This makes no sense whatsoever].

Miguel and Flaco talked. Flaco suspected something was up with Kenia because she was behaving strangely late. Miguel told him to keep an eye on her and keep him informed.

Gary picked up a message that made him angry. He replied to Kenia whose cell was sending constant notifications which were not unnoticed by Flaco and Jorge as they slaved over hot keyboards and began snapping at each other.

Chisca went back to her shopaholic ways. She looked at Adela's haul, too. Rosario suggested that the two ladies donate the stuff they don't wear anymore and they both agreed to this. When Rosario left them alone Adela asked Chisca about her father. Chisca said she remembered little, saying that she was eight years old when he died.

Jesus and the new president talked, then Jésus had a nosebleed.

Miami: Howard looked at the file with the new intel; he seemed satisfied as they made plans.

Mexico: The Geeks were still having trouble figuring out what to do. Kenia's cell notifications continued. Kenia went into the loo to make a call to Gary to say not to call her again because she was at risk of discovery. There was another woman in the loo who might have heard something just after getting out the door.

Miami: Howard and company identified an abandoned building as being the location of Wissa, the shell company he was hunting down. He called Edna to tell her about it.

Mexico: The Pig was on the warpath looking for his sow. Tacho held him back, telling him he should not kill the mother of his children. Pig handed him his gun but went grabbed her anyway and dragged her out. Tacho did not follow.

Miguel and Adela were talking about her when Flaco came up to tell them that all was well. Vanessa called Miguel to tell Miguel about an upcoming event, the opening of her new film.

Miami: Howard talked to Harvey, a consultant whose help he wanted to catch Miguel. He had created a front for him.

Mexico: Chisca went through a closet and took out a pistol that was hidden in a picnic basket on the closet floor. She was surprised by Ishiro, who insisted she hand it over to him because it was more dangerous for her to handle it due to her inexperience with firearms. She said something about him giving her lessons. He agreed, a little morosely.

Hector read about Tacho and was annoyed. He then wanted his tequila. Ana came in and began nagging him about his drinking [for his own good, por supuesto].

Kenia and Jorge were going home; Kenia sent him back for something because Gary was in the hall Kenia told him about the event in Miami. Jorge almost caught her doing this.

Miguel told Dora he needed to go to Miami. Dora was not pleased. Adela was annoyed with the tension between the two of them. Dora lied that Roberto was dead before she had married his father.

Miami: Harry talked with Samuel re Wissa and $10 million.

Mexico: Adela and her abuela talked again in the park. Abue still refused to move to Mexico City. They talked about Miguel's parents. [Does Abue know more than she admits to?]

Miguel met with Samuel and they talked about Harry di Renzo.

Ishiro started teaching Chisca how to shoot. He is a crack shot while she was almost ready to give up on the first try. [My gut says that Miguel won't like this.]

Miguel, Edgar, and Samuel continued talking about their deal.

Columbia: Pig drove into the jungle with Tacho for a meeting. He was a little nervous. Another jeep pulled into the area, occupied by armed men in camouflage and led by Jaramillo, who had been to the island meeting. They drove off in his jeep.

Mexico: Chisca got a call from Miguel telling her she had to come to Miami. Gary had somehow hacked into the call and heard at least part of the plan.

Carmen called “Maira” for help. She was in the car with Peligros at the wheel.

Columbia: Pig and Jaramillo plotted against Miguel.

Miami: Howard filled a big metal briefcase with marked money and fitted Harvey with a wire.

Mexico: Adela went to meet Carmen, who wore evidence of Pig's abuse. This is where she admitted his identity.

Miami: Chisca arrived and put her suitcase onn the X-ray's conveyor belt. The IRS plant told her she was being detained.

Capitulo 65: Parties Public and Private

Mexico: Carmen started talking about Pig's business. She had previously lied about being dead for his protection. She was frequently alone and unable to sleep. He had just discovered that she cheated on him with one of his men. “Maira” tried to find out where he was hiding but Carmen didn't know. Carmen seemed ready to talk otherwise. “Maira” also told her that “Victor” had hit her.

Miami: Chisca had to open her suitcase in front of an inspector (the IRS plant, who was wearing a wire). She acted offended and felt she was being ethnically profiled. The man handled her clothes with gloved hands. A uniformed guard tried to slit the lining; Chisca opened the lining with a zipper and they saw nothing. At the same moment Ishiro moved about undisturbed with the suitcase they were looking for. The IRS guy looked into her huge purse and found a leather portfolio case with a set of documetnts.

Miguel called Harvey, who was in Howard's office. Harvey put him on speaker while arranging the meeting. Harry and Howard were confident that they could put Miguel away for a very long time. Their undercover man called to tell them that the documents Chisca had were not what they were looking for; they were legitimate business documents. Those were returned to Chisca, who walked away.

Ishiro got into a cab with the money.

Howard tried to check how Miguel had beaten the computer system. His tech guy had no good answer.

Mexico: Flaco seemed to have solved the network problem with no liability for Garza. Jimena admitted that she had underestimated him.

Miami: Howard and his tech man speculated on what Miguel did to avoid discovery.

Mexico: “Maira” tended to Carmen's injuries while looking for information about Lamberto and his son. Flashback to an argument between Lamberto, Roberto, and the Pig while Carmen talked with Lucia, who said that her suegro was not the same since the death of his first wife. Pig had lost peeps to Lamberto, but Carmen said he didn't know that.

Pig called Duarte from Columbia. Duarte was not pleased that he had called his personal phone but Pig claimed he was using an untraceable one. They would have to meet to discuss how to put Miguel out of business permanently. Pig would not trust him if he didn't show up.

Miami: The IRS mole spotted Miguel, who followed Miguel on security cameras. He took the right elevator upstairs and exited. Harvey di Renzo arrived and entered Elevator B, standing behind a delivery man in a cranberry shirt. However, Jorge and his crew sent smoke or gas up the elevator shaft and into the elevator. All occupants were out like lights when the elevator reached its destination floor. No money in sight.
Ishiro exited the place in a disguise right under their noses. IRS guy demanded that the building be closed. Howard went back to his office. Miguel was accused of killing Leopoldo by Howard, who tried calling him out about Wissa. Miguel challenged him over this, asking him if he had any proof. Chisca arrived with the Petroclean documents and Howard looked like he felt like an idiot [which is his normal state].

Mexico: Adela met Peligros who tried to convince her not to trust Carmen, who may be lying to her. Adela was sure that the Pig was the problem and she called him what he was.

Miami: Miguel was aware that the money was marked. He apologized to Chisca for using her as a distraction at the airport but she was alright with it. He told Ishiro he was grateful and he would be rewarded for this. They drank to the success of the outcome along with Edgar and Samuel.

Mexico: Hector and Claudia talked about Duarte and the epheline. She tried to get him to stop drinking. No such luck, as he went straight to the bottle as soon as she was out the door.

Duarte's secretary brought his suitcase into his office and told him his flight information. She asked how long he would be gone. He gave a vague answer and told her not to worry.

Miami: Howard's boss had a conniption over the failure to catch Miguel and the missing money.. He was suspended over the waste. A box was delivered with what was left of Wissa (garbage paper) with a note saying: Howard's boss yelled at him to get out of the office.

Mexico: Hector tried getting up from the wheelchair, but collapsed onto the floor.

Miami: Ishiro went to Chisca's room and gave her a special dinner invitation. She thanked him and was likely anticipating she would finally score access to the samurai sword.

Mexico: Augusto helped Hector back into the chair. He had been on the floor almost the whole day. Ana came back and Augusto said he probably shouldn't be left alone.

Miami: Miguel put on something from his James Bond wardrobe, went to Vanessa's party, and addressed the press who talked about the film and whether he wanted to go into politics. He said all the right things. The photos they took could become an issue later when Adela sees them. He slipped an Epheline to Vanessa.

Chisca went down to the bar very late where Ishiro was waiting for her, dressed as a master shushi chef. He explained the Japanese New Year's custom and they started on mandarin oranges.

Karina showed up at Vanessa's party. She seemed to recognize that the sex she had once with Miguel was Strictly Business, then told him that Epheline was selling well in Russia and Sergei was pleased. The money was great but not their only language. She hoped that he would be more generous in the good times. [We all hope not.]

Ishiro fed Chisca some special piece of sushi and said “You can take a Japanese man out of Japan, but you can't take Japan out of a Japanese.” She asked him whether he liked geishas. He sort of evaded the question by explaining that the mission of a geisha is to attend to men. Nothing pleased him more than being with a woman he loved. It began looking like he was really into Chisca (or would be a little later on).

Miguel gave a speech praising Vanessa's film while Adela tried texting him. He replied and made an exit. However,
Adela saw the event on her computer, including Karina of the perpetually swollen lips. And now... what us flies on the wall have all been waiting for...

Meanwhile Lurch's Japanese primo started getting his freak on with Chisca who finally – along with us flies on the wall – saw his Yakuza tattoos.

She was quite speechless.

The net morning Miguel worked out, then called Adela to ask if she'd like a romantic trip. He told her it was a surprise and that there was a copter on the roof waiting for her.

Columbia: Duarte and his guards met Pig in the jungle. Duarte was suspicious.

An Island in the Atlantic: Adela and Miguel went to a deserted island and he told her he bought it for them.

¡Feliz Año Nuevo, Amigos!

Sorry it was so late, but I had a buffering problem last night and almost missed a whole scene. It's all here.

Enjoy the photo essay at the end!

Thank You Urban.
MOST UNBELIEVABLE scene of the night: In the airport as they search her luggage, we see that Chisca owns panties, and actually found some and put them in her luggage. I guess I was wrong about her.

Next: Taco (sauce for brains) is easily dissuaded from killing ePig by an offer to become his partner. Just like that. DONE...BFFs again. Now give me my gun back etc. etc. etc.....
This does not rank up there with the pantie discovery, but it was still an 'Only in TNs' moment.

When is anybody....going to figure out that Dora is not on Team Garza? Ditto Kenia / Tabitha/ Gabriella ?

Anybody out there think Trejo is a hottie..? Also, I kinda thinking Flaco has charm and sexiness. Couldn’t figure out the talk of Lamberto’s first wife? Did gramma say she was killed by a bomb? Did Dora have anything to do with that...anyone?

The Lamberto story is hard for me to follow too. We are getting smidgeons from Carmen and others from Grammie. like buying two old junk cars and making one out of the two of them. Like which piece of what fits where?

It sounded to me like Grammie knows more than she was ready to tell Adela. My money is on Adela dragging it out of Gramma though.

Boy ole Carmen was a hoochie back in the day.!

UA: Happy 2020! I'm assuming the Mexican President punched Jesus in the face ?

Kirby: Yes! Carmen was a hoochie! I see that Chisca finally gets to pull a Cosby on Ishiro.

Steve: Yeah nobody is safe around that girl. Maybe THAT is what is giving her little Brother Jorge nightmares. :-)

Thanks, Urban. Amazed you can cut through all the business with ease.

I do not like Ishiro's full body tat. Lucky for him, Chisca feels differently.

I don't like or understand these either. I've been hoping that tattoos would finally go out of style. Every time I see Jose Ron's bare body in Ringo I ask "What was he thinking?"

I'm supposed to go out tonight but I don't feel up to it.

You get tattoos while you are young and stupid, and then live with them forever as you grow up and have better sense.

By the time Chisca saw Ishiro's Tats I believe he could have been covered with reptilian scales and she would have been OK with it.

Most of the tattoos I have seen make me wonder why there is not a sobriety test required of the "artist" AND the recipient before any ink is applied.

Thank you, urban. I can't believe that Piggy so easily talked Taco out of killing him. What a dolt.

Gee,I like tattoos and have been thinking of getting a small one ..very small.... on my wrist. My friend's husband recently got three very realistic ones of endangered animals on his upper arm.....a tiger, a gorilla, and an elephant done by a fine artist.

First comment on Caray of this DECADE. Yipee.

Well done as usual Urban A! I was as shocked as Chisca--if anything made her shut her trap it was that sight of Ishi covered in man art. So it begs the question, if Tadamichi is head of the Yakuzu and also head executioner with full body art, who becomes the last dragon? Ishi or Miguel?? He hasn't but one dragon tat on his whole body.

Happy New Year, Patio Peeps!

FYI Bushido and Samarai Tatoo/Culture:
The samurai is an important symbol in Japanese culture. Their Bushido code, aka “the way of the warrior,” made them role models for discipline, respect, and ethical behaviour in Japan. These warriors shaped the country through both warfare and their conduct.

Even today, over 150 years since the end of the samurai class, their effects are still felt throughout Japanese culture. As such, samurai are one of the most popular Asian tattoo designs. We take a look at the meanings, designs, and styles of samurai tattoos.

Samurai Woman
Traditional Meanings of Samurai Tattoos
The warrior culture and Zen Buddhism-influenced conduct of the samurai dates back to the 12th Century. As such, samurai tattoos can contain many different meanings and significance. These are some of the most common meanings behind this tattoo design:

Masculinity: Samurai is traditionally a male term. As such, featuring them in tattoos is often symbolic of masculinity. That being said, there were some women who trained and fought as samurai.
Courage: These stoic warriors were revered for their courage, as well as their skill. Inking one of them on your skin can signify your own courage, or lend you some of theirs.
Honour: In Japanese culture, honour was an important idea. With their strict loyalty and following of Bushido, samurai are deeply tied to honour.
Nobility: Samurai were members of the aristocratic class. Not just anyone could become a samurai, they had to be born into nobility. As such, samurai tattoos can signify nobility.
Warrior: Above all else, the samurai is notorious worldwide for their status and skill as warriors. People often choose these tattoos to demonstrate their own warrior spirit, taking on or overcoming challenges in their own lives.
Life/Death: The samurai is often linked with life and death. This is due to both their militant lives and the Bushido way. A famous samurai quote is, “those who cling to life die, and those who defy death live.”
Discipline: The samurai is famous for their discipline. It allowed them to earn mastery over their bodies, minds, and to hone their skills. A Bushi tattoo can represent or inspire discipline in one’s own life.

HAHA,

When she was a very young preteen, my daughter once said on our way to the beach, that she'd never get a tattoo, because she didn't want to grow up, have wrinkles where a tattoo was and have the tattoo all wrinkled, distorted, and gross. My husband and I always think we were lucky our kids didn't get tattoos, or piercings, or turn Goth. It's just that we are very conservative. However, I understand each to his own. I couldn't watch Pasión y Poder and ruin my love of TBLMOE (Fernando).

My favorite characters though still are Ishiro and Peligros. I'll just pretend I never saw Ishiro shirtless.

I too, really had to close my eyes during the Chisca/Ishiro scene, even though I understood it in the context of the Yakuza theme. But it was all over ever inch of his body, except his neck and hands. Doesn't the dye harm one?

Loved Chisca during the immigration examination! Oh and I must give credit were credit is due. I disliked her so much during the Valentin sh*t, that I guess she's a better actor than I expected.

Cynthia, you must laugh your guts out everytime you see Howard/IRS chasing Miguel and his money laundering! But didn't you absolutely love Miguel's scheme to steal the 10 million dollars. OMG, that was sooooo funny.

Jardinera654, what an enlightening education regarding the samurai. I've learned more here on El Dragón about Japan and its culture than ever before. The same as with tequila (DA), wine making (CME), the Mexícan Revolution (AR), the Inquisition in Mexíco (A), etc. Telenovelas can be educational— culturally, historically, and environmentally.

Jardinera, thank you for the Samurai\ tattoo information. I have taught quite a few people from Japan, and they told me many things about their country , but these particular topics never came up. I had one student who gave an excellent speech about Japan and then insisted that I put on her kimona . The photo that she took of me is one of my treasures. I had several Japanese women in my class when our younger daughter toured Japanese schools with other teachers on a Fulbright grant. They loved following her around Japan via her blogsite. I have lots of small tokens from Japan from my students...but no Samurai swords.

I am wondering about the process the wardrobe department used to apply all those fake tattoos all over the actor's body. Sam Hueghan had to have fake scars from flogging applied to his back for Outlander, and he said that it took hours to apply.

Oh my. Susy I can see where this is headed, you are talking yourself into that tattoo you mentioned.

Well, you are a classy lady, so no one will mistake you for a hooker. And very few homeless people have trendy little new cars, so that is out too.

Maybe get a few really high quality fake ones as a test. Then after a week or two if neither your siblings nor children have BAKERR acted you, go for the real things. :-)

I think that the painting on of the fake tattoos must take quite a long time, so I suspect it's done by people with lots of experience at it.

If you look at the photos of Tadamichi and the others in the recap of #36 you'll see that the center front of his body is covered; I suspect that this is the last area they do. We don't know when that happened for him and we don't know the ages of Tadamichi and Ishiro, but I'm guessing that Tadamichi mentored Ishiro back in the day.

Happy New Year Urban and everyone here on the patio! Thank you Urban for your detailed recap. These shows just move so very quickly from place to place. I haven't been able to concentrate very well lately, but thank you for bringing it all together. (Still mourning my recently passed away kitty).

I've also been watching a series on Amazon Prime called The Man in the High Castle. The shows mention the Yakuza. The series ended and it seems that a man joining them when he owes them debts, must amputate his pinky finger. It was not fun to watch and I averted my eyes to the scene. I don't think they actually showed the process, but the fact that he had to do it was enough to make me turn away.

The stuff with Tacho and Pig is just not doing it for me. No one can be that stupid.

I'm glad Flaco is suspicious of Kenia. Hopefully he will discover what is going on with her soon.

I love how Miguel keeps two huge steps ahead of Howard. This becomes such a comedy of errors and fantasy that has nothing to do with the IRS. Although the IRS is part of the Department of Treasury, it is not the agency that handles illegal international money laundering. Instead, it's the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network that does this job. Here is the website: https://home.treasury.gov/policy-issues/terrorism-and-illicit-finance/money-laundering

Now who couldn't love a man who gives you your own beautiful island?

OT...kirby...my idea was just a name and a tiny heart on my wrist....something lasting. I really am at the point in my life that I no longer care what people think,so now it is just working up the courage to go to the local tattoo parlor that was recommended to me by the local mailperson. My older daughter wanted her sister and me to get tiny matching tattoos with her years ago, but that never happened. We shall see if I ever actually do it.

Not only could I not live on a private island as the isolation would drive me nuts, I would wonder what his motive might be for wanting one. It would be too easy to abandon someone on it and it would be too vulnerable to damage from weather and other natural disasters.

Urban: And going to WalMart is GOT to be a real pain. I'm out.
