We've begun to see a trailer for "La Suerte de Loli" and the notice that it will appear "pronto." I thought that the person playing Loli looked familiar, so I did some Googling (actually, some Duck Duck Going), and found that the novela will star Silvia Navarro, one of my favorites! I saw her in Mañana es para siempre (with Fernando Colunga) and Cuando me enamoro, both on Univisión, I think. I'm delighted that she'll be doing a novela for Telemundo!
Sevgi’s father is…. Captain Hussein, the police captain who knows Ugur and Demir quite well. Flash back to the time they were brought down to the station in their undershirts. Demir BS’d their way out of it by saying they were having fun with some girlfriends. The Captain said they should be ashamed of themselves.
Sevgi asks her dad, what are you doing here? She and Ugur were having coffee. Ugur squeaks out, Captain Hussein? Yes, that’s correct, Ugur Adiguzel, says the Captain. You two know each other, asks Sevgi? Of course. we know each other well, says the Captain.
Demir looks in on a sleeping Oyku. He covers her and kisses her. He goes into his bedroom. Candan is still awake. He notices she has made up his “bed” on the floor and thanks her. Candan says, I couldn’t ask before because I didn’t want Oyku to hear. What did the doctor say? She seems to have somnambulism. We will have to monitor her to know if it is due to her illness. They both hope it doesn’t happen again.
Before they can settle in, Oyku bangs on the bedroom door. She had a nightmare. Can I sleep with you? Of course, says Candan, hop in. Demir says he will take the couch. Why, asks Oyku? She won’t be able to sleep if he’s not there. Candan signals its ok. Alright then, make room for me, says Demir. One more thing, dad—no snoring.
Candan asks about Oyku’s dream. She was in her aunt’s house. It was dark and cold, and she felt alone. Demir says that’s what you get when you leave your butt out in the air. Dad! Demir asks, why are you dreaming about that? Your aunt is gone. There is no darkness or loneliness. Oyku takes Demir’s hand and Candan’s hand and puts them together with hers on top.
Middle of the night, Oyku manages to climb out of bed without waking Demir or Candan. She’s sleepwalking again. She walks right out of the house and into the street. Cemal is in his car outside the house in in stalker mode again. He spots Oyku and jumps out of his car. He runs to her calling her name. Oyku can you hear me? He can’t wake her. He picks her up. He’s got a slight smile, but it’s not his usual evil smile. This time it looks soft, almost caring.
He thinks back to Asu’s diary: You want to find me? There’s something you need to know first. Remember when we met after 8 years? You asked if Oyku was your daughter? I lied then. I didn’t have the guts to tell you the truth. Now is the time for you to know. Oyku is your daughter not Demir’s You’re her real father. He gets angry, rips out the page and throws the diary aside. He yells, is this your revenge? Cemal snaps out of the flashback and looks very concerned for Oyku. He starts walking towards the house.
Demir is snoring and it wakes Candan. Oyku is not in bed. She gets up and looks everywhere in the house. Oyku is gone. Candan wakes Demir and they go to the living room just as Cemal brings Oyku back into the house. Demir takes Oyku from Cemal and hands her over to Candan. Demir grabs Cemal, I’ll kill you! You want to kidnap her again! Cemal claps back, you need to take better care of her! She was out there on her own. Demir accuses Cemal of lying. Don’t be an idiot, says Cemal, why would I lie about that. She was sleepwalking and I brought her back. Demir’s not buying it. Cemal says he would gain nothing by kidnapping her. He would have knocked but the door was open so he walked right in.
dondi356
Demir asks Cemal, how did you get out of prison? The diamonds were fake! Your plan didn’t work, says Cemal. Demir warns, stay away from Oyku or I’ll kill you. Cemal responds, Demir, look after her well.
After Cemal leaves, Demir and Candan talk about Cemal, the sleepwalking, the fake diamonds. Demir is agitated and Candan calms him. She tells him they need to stay calm for Oyku’s sake. Candan reminds him that she is there to support him. She’s not going anywhere. We will do this together and we will be ok.
Oyku wakes up happy in Demir’s and Candan’s bed. (that’s strange because Candan put Oyku in her own bedroom after Cemal brought her in. Must have edited something.) Oyku doesn’t remember anything from last night except she had the nightmare and asked to sleep with them. She has a question for them. Why were you sleeping sitting up? It also looks like Demir was holding on tight to her clothing as well. Demir says it’s because she moves around and takes up most of the bed. Tickle fight!
Mufide and Ugur are having breakfast. Ugur is despondent over current events. What’s wrong? Nothing, he says. But he has something to discuss. The job. No discussion. But he doesn’t want to be a waiter. Mufide insists, you have to do what I say, period. He would rather find a job suited to his natural talents. Do you want to go back to stealing, she asks? Once you are used to your job, I will help you get married to Umran, she says.
Ugur wonders how he will have the nerve to face Sevgi again. He thinks back to the coffee date. Captain Hussein says to Sevgi, I know Ugur very well. I detained him many times in the past. I sent him to jail. Sevgi can’t believe this is happening. The Captain continues, he’s a con man. The Captain turns to Ugur and asks, who said you can you con my daughter? Ugur swears he turned over a new leaf. The Captain tells Sevgi she is not to see this man any more. They get up to leave. Ugur begs for another chance. He tells the Captain he is serious about Sevgi. Sevgi is shocked and the Captain is angry. How dare you, he shouts! What are you saying? The Captain and Sevgi leave.
The happy family is having breakfast. Oyku is telling Candan about a girl who put gum in another girl’s hair. They laugh. Enough girly talk, orders Demir, eat your breakfast. Dad, are you jealous of us, asks Oyku? Grumpy Demir says of course not. He’s not the jealous type (!)
At the table, Candan gets a call from Mu-rat. Demir and Oyku don’t look happy about that. Mu-rat wants to meet up. She’s busy today so she asks if he would stop by the clinic instead. Ok then, see you later. She gets looks from Demir and Oyku. What? Nothing, nothing, says Demir. Oyku pipes up and asks the question Demir wanted to ask, what did that guy want? Demir whispers to Oyku, well done…. uh, Oyku, that’s embarrassing to ask.
Well, Mu-rat called because he wants to come by the clinic. Why, asks Oyku? Demir steps in and says, it’s none of your business, Oyku. Get ready for school. Then Demir starts in with the Mu-rat questions. Candan says maybe he just wants to say hello. Demir quickly apologizes for following Oyku’s lead. Of course, it’s none of his business, he says. Candan smiles at him.
Off to school. Candan offers a ride but Demir and Oyku will walk. Oyku is worried they are fighting because they didn’t kiss goodbye. They kiss, love you, bye.
Oyku wants to know why Mu-rat insists on seeing Candan. Ha, ha, she refers to The Rat as Mr. Conceited and Mr. Potato Head. Demir has no idea but says that Candan and Murat are friends. Oyku doesn’t like Candan seeing Mu-rat. She is sure he has feelings for her.
dondi356
Oyku tells Demir she missed walking to school with him. She feared they wouldn’t see each other again. Demir says not to say that again. They will always be together—the princess and the iron man. But… I chose Asu and left you on your own, she tells Demir. She gets teary. If I hadn’t chosen Asu none of this would have happened. She blames herself for what happened. It’s not your fault, says Demir. I’m here with you now. Can you tell me why you chose Asu? Don’t be scared, don’t hide it. She finally says, if I would have chosen you, Cemal would have hurt you, dad! Oyku falls into Demir’s arms, crying. He is stunned.
Demir starts, so that idiot dared to threaten you? It’s over now; don’t cry. Cemal is out of our lives. I’m with you now. I’m not angry. A father is never angry with his children. I learned that. Listen, I need to ask you something. I need you to let me know if anyone says something to you or bothers you . Don’t hide it from me, promise? They touch fingers.
Cemal is staring out his window. He goes to Asu’s diary again: I don’t know what to do with the baby. The doctor said I can’t abort. I will have to keep it. What am I going to do? I feel so alone. Thank God Zeynep is with me. She is the only one who knows what I’m going through. if it weren’t for her, I’d go crazy. He thinks about this and makes a call to Hikmet. (I guess that’s Arif’s guy.) I need to find a person, Cemal says. One of Asu’s friends, Zeynep. It’s best to use your contacts. I need to find her asap.
Mu-rat shows up at the vet clinic. He doesn’t waste time and gets right to the point. I’m angry, he says. Why? You could have told me that you were getting married. Why would I have to inform you of my marriage, she asks? You know I did it for Oyku. I had to act quickly so I didn’t tell anyone. Mu-rat wants to know then why did she reject his offer? (should I answer this for him?) Candan answers, it’s obvious; Demir is her father. Getting custody through him was easier. Candan wants to know why he is making a big deal of this. (should I answer this for her?) Mu-rat answers, because you married an idiot, Candan! And speak of the devil, Demir walks in. Hey, what’s up? We were just talking, says Candan. Demir says he is here to see her; he missed her. Boy this is awkward.
Demir greets the Rat, how are you? Mu-rat is fine, and he notes Demir seems fine, too. Demir says yes, in fact everything is great. Candan is trying not to smile or laugh. Candan tries to break the tension by offering something to drink. Mu-rat says no thanks, he best be leaving. Demir wonders if he is leaving on account of his showing up. No, Mu-rat has a lot of work waiting at the hospital. Demir rings the call bell on the desk. Candan walks Mu-rat to the door. The Rat whispers to her, please be careful; he’s dangerous. Demir rings the bell several more times until Mu-rat leaves.
Why are you here, Candan asks Demir? Demir needs to think up an answer other than to check up on a Candan-Mu-rat meeting. Flashback to Candan offering Demir a job at the clinic. Demir thought he would take the clinic job. Candan thought he didn’t want to be an assistant. Well, in the meantime he can help out his wife, if the offer still stands. Ok, then. A person walks in with her dog. Already Demir does not seem pleased. The dog’s name is Jason. Demir mutters, he’s named after a killer? The dog is there for surgery and Candan asks Demir to get the OR ready. Uh, oh. I think Demir won’t be much help.
dondi356
Ugur is working at the restaurant. Stalker Umran walks in, takes a seat and calls Ugur over. He wants to ignore her, but the boss signals him to go over to her. How are you Mr. Ugur, she asks? Ugur wants to know why she is here. Oh, he knows why. He calls her crazy. He says, you can fool my mother but not me. He wants her to leave. She won’t leave; she is there to eat. Can you bring a menu? God, give me patience, whispers an exasperated Ugur. She orders a lot of food. Ugur calls her a bottomless pit! The boss takes notice of their exchange.
Cemal gets a call from Hikmet. They found Zeynep; she’s at a hotel. Hikmet sends the location.
Candan asks Demir to put Jason up on the table. Jason jumps on Demir, knocks him down and lies down on him. Candan explains how he should pick up the dog. She has to get a few things in another room and will be right back. Demir can’t get the dog up on the table. Animal cuteness ensues. From the other room, Candan hears Jason barking and runs back to find Demir on the floor with Jason licking his face.
Time to operate and, clearly, Demir is not cut out for this. He can’t even help with an injection. Candan lets him off the hook and says it must be time to get Oyku. He gladly takes off.
Ugur is clearing Umran’s table. You’re done now; I’ll get the check. What? Umran says, how dare you charge your fiancée! Ugur tells her in a hushed voice, we are not engaged! Pay the check and leave! Aw, Umran’s poor heart is broken. She gathers her stuff and goes to walk out. The boss is watching and listening. Wait, wait, says Ugur as he stops her from leaving. You must pay. I’m so embarrassed, she shouts! I’ll tell Mufide! And with that, Umran leaves.
Cemal shows up at Zeynep’s hotel. She’s not in her room. He asks if he can wait for her. Sure. He takes a seat in the lobby.
The class is having a Math lesson. Who would like to come up to solve the problem? They all raise their hands. Sevgi calls on Oyku. She freezes with her hand up and a confused stare. Oyku?
And we are out.
dondi356
Dondi, thanks bunches for yet another outstanding recap with all the details.
Poor Ugur, he is going to have jump over many high hurdles to get Sevgi back. Oh well... to the important stuff...
Well, dang it, they went and did it again! Back again to trying to figure out who the daddy is. I've been racking my brain trying to convince myself that Demir is the bio dad, but then I recall that Asu was with Demir only one time! OTOH, I wonder why Asu wouldn't have used that card when she was desperate to get custody of Oyku...it would have made things so much easier for her and Cemal. I guess we'll just have to wait until the writers decide to tell us ARGHHH!
I had a feeling Cemal would take Oyku back inside...he does, after all, now think that he might be her father. I'm glad he has doubts that Asu is telling the truth, maybe he'll think twice about doing something to hurt Oyku. I am wondering, however, why Demir didn't question why Cemal was lurking around his house.
I really enjoyed watching Candan, Oyku and Demir together...in bed and at breakfast. How cute that Oyku and Demir are so jealous of Murat and question Candan about her relationship with him. Demir accepting a job with Candan was a bit much (since he is allergic to cats...or so he says), but I did enjoy his encounter with "Jason."
"Candan wants to know why he is making a big deal of this. (should I answer this for her?)" Is Candan really that dense and naive??? Yes, Dondi, spell it out for her!
And once again, Cemal orders someone to be found and he gets a response in warp speed. How lucky can he get?! I'm hoping he gets nowhere with Zeynep. I'm wondering if Asu even knows who the daddy is!
Thanks very much, dondi356, for another superb recap!
Wow, Oyku is one smart operator. I wonder whether she realizes that Demir and Candan aren't sharing the bed. Whether or not she does, she certainly manages to get them together by saying she can't sleep if he's not there, and then by putting his hand and Candan's hand together with hers.
I was surprised that Demir didn't lock the door before he went to bed. I was also surprised that when Cemal carried Oyku back to the house, Demir didn't ask Cemal why he just happened to be there if he wasn't trying to kidnap Oyku again. I agree, though, that Cemal does seem to be more tender toward Oyku after reading Asu's diary. I wonder whether she is telling the truth. I also wonder whether she even knows who the father is.
Good catch about where Oyku goes back to sleep after the sleepwalking. I had forgotten that Candan put her back in her own bed. Apparerntly the editors did, too.
Needless to say, I was sure something bad would happen when Demir assures Oyku that "we'll be together forever. No one can separate us." OY!
On a lighter note, it must have been great fun to film the scene with Jason and Demir in Candan's clinic.
I'll do tonight's recap.
Rgv Chick, I didn't read your comment until after I responded to dondi356. Clearly you and I are again on the same wave length. (Great minds and all that :-) )
I'm hoping that Asu was lying in her diary. It would have been easy for her to get custody of Oyku if she and Cemal were together, so I'm not sure why she didn't tell him the truth (or what she believed to be the truth). Like you, I wonder whether she even really knows who the biological father is.
The Ugur-Sevgi relationship is so strange, probably because both of them are a bit weird. Both have their moments of lucidity and common sense, but both often seem to be on another planet. I was surprised that when Ugur told Sevgi's father that he was serious about Sevgi, Sevgi looked totally shocked. Did she really not realize that he had just proposed to her a minute or two earlier? Oh well, if this novela follows the traditional pattern, they'll be together at the end, along with Demir and Candan (¡ojalá!). My worry is that it's a Turkish novela, and I'm not sure whether the same norms apply. I guess we'll see.
Thanks, Rgv Chick and Juanita!
Hurt people hurt other people, that fits Asu. She’s messing with both Cemal and Demir. If she slept with both men within days, she can’t be 100% sure about the father. There is no way to avoid a DNA test now. Possibly the only good thing to come of this is the softening of Cemal.
dondi356
Thanks so much, dondi! It doesn't make sense that Cemal is Oyku's father. The person who left the letter in the empty apartment in the first episode was Zeynap. If she and Asu were such good friends, why would Asu have told her good buddy the father was Demir if it was Cemal?
Sevgi comes over to Oyku and tries to get her attention. Ilayda can't resist being nasty. "She's broken, teacher" she says. "Call the repairman. She has a screw loose." Oyku snaps out of her trance. When Sevgi asks her again whether she's OK, she says replies "I'm fine. Why do you ask, teacher?" Sevgi then has her go to the whiteboard and do the math problem.
Ugur is at work as a waiter. He suddenly realizes that Oyku is about to leave school for the day. He trips, perhaps deliberately, perhaps accidentally, but once he's down on the floor, he acts as if he's in a lot of pain. The boss comes over, and Ugur says he thinks he has twisted his ankle. The boss tells him to go home and rest the ankle. Ugur expresses Ugur-like gratitude and then limps out of the restaurant. As soon as he is out of sight, he stops limping and rushes off to the school.
Zeynep arrives back at the hotel where she is staying. Cemal is there waiting for her. He approaches her, asks whether she's Zeynep Kaya, and then says "You know Asu, right?" She asks who he is. "You can't guess?" he replies. "You're Cemal?" She then tells him that she hasn't seen Asu in a long time. Cemal gets right to the point: "Oyku--is she my daughter?"
Oyku is getting ready to leave the classroom. Sevgi points out to her that she has forgotten her backpack. Oyku goes to get it. Sevgi says she'd like to talk with her. "You seem distracted," Sevgi tells her. "Is something going on at home?" Oyku assures her that everything is fine. Sevgi reminds her that she can always talk to her.
Both Ugur and Demir arrive at the bottom of the steps. Both are surprised to see the other. Demir says he's there to pick up Oyku; Ugur says he's waiting for Sevgi. Oyku arrives, warmly greets Demir, and then greets Ugur, but he barely notices. He's fixated on Sevgi, who is coming down the stairs. Demir tells Oyku they should leave and not bother Ugur--he's on another planet.
Ugur presents Sevgi with a bouquet of flowers. He bought them for her because they reminded him of her. "They're beautiful, just like you." She tells him he shouldn't have done that. He says "Don't say that. We can't let our love die before it blooms." He goes on and on, not realizing that Captain Hussein, Sevgi's father, has appeared. Her father starts berating her for continuing to speak to Ugur. Ugur tells him not to blame Sevgi, "I came to see her, Papá," he says. "Who are you calling Papá?" asks Captain Hussein, enraged. He then sees the bouquet of flowers Sevgi is holding. He takes the flowers and throws them angrily on the ground. He then tells Sevgi, "From now on, I'll have to walk you to and from school every day." Sevgi protests that she's not a little girl. Never knowing when to be quiet, Ugur adds, "It's true, she not a little girl, Papá" (!!). Captain Hussein winces again at Ugur's calling him Papá and warns him, "If I ever see you near my daughter again, I'll kill you!"
On the way home, Oyku asks Demir "Did Ugur do something to my teacher? Did he do something so that Sevgi doesn't want to see him?" Demir replies that the situation is very complicated, and it's better if we stay out of it. Oyku then tells Demir not to upset Candan. "She has helped us a lot." Demir objects that Oyku and Candan are taking each other's side too much. "You feminists are leaving me out," he complains. "I'm serious," says Oyku. "I love Candan." "Stop it," says Demir. "I'm talking seriously, too. I love her." He and Oyku look at each other without saying anything. Finally, Demir suggests that they make a surprise meal for Candan.
Candan arrives home to find a lovely meal waiting on the table. They sit and eat and talk about Demir's having gone to the clinic. Candan says she rather doubts that he'll want to come back. Demir protests that he felt a little dizzy when he saw the very large needle Candan used, but he'll get used to it. He tells her, "I would never leave you alone. You need an assistant. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it." Candan replies, "You did the best you could." Suddenly, Oyku screams. After several minutes of commercials, we learn that Oyku screamed because she saw a rat in the room. All three of them get up on furniture in order not to be on the floor where the rat is. "Aren't you a vet?" asks Demir. "So then why are you afraid of a rat?" This goes on for a while. Finally, Demir manages to corner the rat and get it to go outside the house. "You're the Iron Man" declares Oyku. They all admit to having been somewhat scared.
It's nighttime. Cemal is down by the water, remembering his encounter with Zeynep. He grabs her by the arm. "Oyku is my daugher, yes or no?" "How would I know?" she replies. She tells him to let go of her arm and sit down and talk. "Am I Oyku's father?" Cemal asks again. Zeynep tells her that Demir asked her the same question. "What did you tell him?" asks Cemal. "I told him that a father knows who is child is." She then looks at Cemal and asks, "Do you feel she's your daughter?" Cemal obviously isn't sure. Zeynep tells him what she knows. "You loved Asu, but Asu loved Demir. I know that the two of you made love only once. That's all I know." Cemal tells Zeynep "Asu wrote me a letter saying that I'm the father." Zeynep says "If she says so, you should believe her." Cemal asks, "How do I know whether she's lying?" Zeynep finally suggests that he take a paternity test. He asks what he'd need for that. She tells him they'll ask for a sample of Oyku's hair, and they'll compare that with a sample of his DNA.
At bedtime, Oyku tells Demir, "You're the best father in the world. I'm so glad you're my father." He kisses her goodnight and then goes into the other bedroom. Candan is already in bed. He goes to get the bedding to put on the floor. Candan is concerned: "On the floor? What if the rat comes?" Demir decides he'll sleep on the sofa. But then Oyku might see him there. Candan then says, "Sleep here with me." Just so that there's no misunderstanding, she clarifies: "You can sleep next to me in the same bed." Demir accepts her proposal. He assures her he'll lie at the edge of the bed so he won't bother her. No problem, she replies. He gets into bed. The ttwo of them are back to back. Suddenly they both turn around to talk. "You first." "No, you first." Demir asks whether she was offended by the rat joke (presumably his asking why is she afraid of a rat if she's a vet). She wasn't offended. Then she tells him, "You're a very good father. I thought very bad things about you until recently. Oyku is very lucky. She has you. You take her to school, you play with her, you listen to her. That's all I wanted to say." They turn away again, but there's a smile on Demir's face.
Cemal is back at his place, reading Asu's diary and remembering his discussion with Zeynep. He especially remembers her saying that a paternity test is the best way to know whether or not he's Oyku's father.
At breakfast the next morning, Oyku tells Demir that breakfast fills her up for the day, so she doesn't really need to bring a lunchbox. Demir insists that it's important that she eat. "How do you know?" asks Oyku. "I'm your father, I know everything," replies Demir.
Demir brushes Oyku's hair and tries to get knots out. Candan remembers dealing with her sister's hair. Demir sees a sad look on Candan's face. The phone rings. It's the hospital calling. The speaker tells Demir that their computers tell them that no payments have been made for Oyku's treatment. The man says he'll make a schedule of payments for Demir. Demir gets off the phone and tells Candan that the hospital wants him to pay. She asks whether he needs help. He assures her he'll take care of it.
Ugur is back at work. His boss asks how he is and remarks about his miraculous recovery. Ugur tells him it still hurts but he tries not to let it show. As soon as the boss is elsewhere, Ugur comments to himself, "I'm forgetting my super powers. How could I forget that I was faking my injury?"
Oyku and Mercan arrive at school at the same time. Oyku is delighted to see him; Demir is jealous. FF>> As Oyku and Mercan walk up the stairs together, Oyku has a momentary episode in which she has a blank stare. She then continues up the stairs. One student tells her she looks as if she's still asleep.
At the restaurant, Ugur serves some customers hamburgers, but they claim they ordered cheeseburgers. He first suggests that they just eat the hamburgers, but then he says he'll get them cheeseburgers. The boss asks what the problem is. Ugur tells him the customers wanted hamburgers, but now they want cheeseburgers. "I'll fix it," he tells the boss.
Candan talks angrily with Mu-rat. He claims her notion of a family is ridiculous. She tells him that what's important is that a little girl is sick and her father is having trouble paying the bills. Mu-rat replies that Demir can simply rob someone else. Candan is furious. She leaves, saying very formally, "Have a nice day, Señor Mu-rat." At the elevator, she encounters Dr. Ihsan. She tells him that "Mu-rat is charging us" for Oyku's treatment. She indicates that they can't afford to continue at a private hospital. Dr. Ihsan says it would not be a good idea to move Oyku at this point. He says he'll talk to Mu-rat.
At school, Mercan mentions to Oyku that her father looked at him weirdly again. As they're talking, Oyku has yet another episode. Mercan says "Oyku? Oyku?" Oyku tells him, "My aunt was acting strange this morning." Mercan asks, "Who is your aunt? Candan?" And on that unsettling note, the episode ends.
BTW, although Telemundo had earlier said there would be no telenovelas this Thursday (Thanksgiving) or Friday, tonight they announced that Todo por mi hija would not be shown on Wednesday, but it would be shown on Friday.
Thank you, Juanita!! Reading your recap is like watching the episode all over again but much better!
Aside from Oyku having more attacks, I thought this was a pretty good episode. Seeing Demir, Candan, and Oyku together always brings a smile and the rat incident was a treat. Now if only Demir could get rid of MuRAT as easily :-)
And speaking of the big muRAT, it didn't take him long to lash out at Demir. He is certainly not a man of his word. I think Dr. Ihsan is going to have to do a lot of sweet talking to change tha sourpuss's mind.
So now we know that Asu was with Cemal only once too; that evens out the odds that Demir is the bio dad. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Novelera, to answer your question about why Asu would tell Zeynep that Demir is the father, maybe it was because Cemal was in prison at the time and Asu knew he would not be able to care for Oyku. But I'm still hoping that Demir is the bio dad.
My thanks to the writers for sparing us another episode with Umran :-)
Thanks for the heads up on no "Hija" on Wednesday and Thursday, Juanita!
Steve, I'm not watching this show, but I did hear that Camilo Sodi was leaving the show and her character was killed off.
Thanks very much, Rgv Chick, for your appreciative and insightful comments. I too was heartened to learn that, like Demir, Cemal had slept with Asu only once. But though that evens the odds, I don't trust the writers to make things work out as we'd like. Or, at least, to work out so that Demir is the biological father. My guess is that he may not be, but the novela will show (in true PSA fashion) that biology is not what makes someone a good parent. And that's fine with me. But given my druthers, I'd also like him to turn out to be the bio daddy.
I really liked your response to novelera's question about why Asu would tell Zeynep that Demir was the father even if he's not. It makes good sense to name someone who is not in prison!
I don't understand why Telemundo didn't know until the last minute that it had something else it wanted to show on Wednesday. Oh well, I've learned not to have much confidence in Telemundo's scheduling. :-( BTW, the change also applies to Falsa Identidad 2.)
Thanks again, Juanita! You and dondi have given Caray early Christmas presents for your excellent work in co-recapping this novela.
It appears that Oyku's "episodes" are increasing and this is very sad. This is only the second Turkish novela I've watched. The other was El Sultán, and very different from this one. By this I mean that I don't have the historic feeling from decades of Spanish language novelas how things might turn out. So I have no idea how they'll deal with Oyku's illness. In the Spanish language ones there would definitely be a miracle cure.
And apparently Oyku doesn't even know she's having the episodes. After she emerges from each catatonic state she seems surprised at the concern of those who've seen it.
The hospital bill is confusing. Supposedly Murat covered the costs when Oyku was hospitalized after the Snow White performance. I know Demir was not happy he'd done it. Did last night's nasty act mean that he reversed the earlier payment? Or that he was refusing to cover costs since then out of spite? I'm not sure of Murat's position. Since he was able to waive costs in the past, I assume he's some sort of hospital administrator. And I do recall that he had the power to hire Ihsan when Ihsan was about to lose his funding for research into Niemann-Pick disease.
Why did they even bother with Asu writing that for Cemal? Cemal does not want custody of Oyku. I suppose he'd pursue it to wound Demir, but what's he going to do with her going forward?
Anyway, I'm ready for the gran final.
Many thanks, novelera! I've been enjoying this novela a lot, but I too feel uneasy about where it's going. The progression of Oyku's illness is very worrisome and, as you say, we don't have the traditions of Spanish-language novelas to reassure us that somehow all will be well.
As for the hospital bills, my assumption is that Mu-rat covered the costs of Oyku's earlier hospitalization, but not for anything later. But it's not clear what's included in "earlier" and "later." I hope that Dr. Ihsan will be successful in convincing Mu-rat to continue coverage, but I think Mu-rat's relationship with Candan has been severely damaged. Since I think that relationship played a large part in his offering to cover the costs, it's unlikely that that will motivate him to continue. However, there may be personal/professional relations between him and Dr. Ihsan that may help.
Like you, I don't know why Asu wrote what she did to Cemal in her diary. Was she drunk? Embittered by losing the inheritance from her father? I'm still not sure that she even knew whether Oyku's father was Cemal or Demir. And did Asu's father find the shyster lawyer who cheated Asu and Cemal, or did Cemal choose him? In other words, is Cemal a victim or a perpetrator? Does that play a role in Asu's writing to Cemal? I have lots of questions, as yet no answers.
Thank you, Juanita, for another fabulous recap. Great comments by everyone.
We definitely need the DNA test. Fingers crossed for Demir. Cemal says he doesn’t want to be a father but neither did Demir at the beginning. He might begin to care about Oyku and forget about revenge. Let’s hope so.
I could be wrong, but I think Mu-rat is retroactively charging Demir for Oyku’s care. IIRC, the hospital is private, and Mu-rat runs (owns?) it. He mentioned at the beginning that he took over from his father. If Ihsan has funding for research, why can’t he find funding for trial treatment for Oyku?
I’ve seen enough Turkish shows to worry about a HEA. Telemundo’s “Pasión Prohibida” was based on a Turkish dizi, “Aşk-I Memnu” (Forbidden Love) and it closely followed the original all the way to the end. Do you remember the ending for that? I do.
Reminder that this show is based on a Korean drama and the girl had the same illness. I’ve seen a few Korean dramas and they don’t always have happy endings either.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanks very much, dondi356. I remember your warning me when I started to watch Cennet that Turkish novelas don't necessarily have happy endings. Fortunately, Cennet did, but I've kept your warning in mind as I've watched Hija, especially since it's hard to imagine a Happily Ever After ending when Niemann-Pick is a real and so far incurable illness. Of course, I'm still hopeful, but....
If Mu-rat gave instructions to the people in the finance office saying that Oyku's bills have been covered, can he legally retract that arrangement retroactively? I hope not.
Oh well, we don't have to think about these issues today or tomorrow. So...Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Stay well.
May you and yours be blessed with an abundance of food on your tables and peace in your homes! 🍗🍠🥘🍲🥧
