"HIJA":

Dondi356: Looking forward to seeing the recap.

Hija #57 part 1

Slight rewind outside ihsan’s office. Demir asks his questions and waits for ihsan’s answer.

Ihsan says calm down. It’s like I told you before, something like this was bound to happen but I didn’t expect it would be so soon. The question is if this is temporary or permanent. We must run some more tests including an MRI. Ihsan wonders how to convince Oyku without telling her the reason.

Demir wants to explain Oyku’s illness to her. She’s smart and she will understand. Ihsan thinks it’s Demir who needs to understand. He reminds Demir that Oyku doesn’t remember anything after her aunt left her. She doesn’t remember she is ill. It’s like her time with you has been erased. If she finds out we lied to her, she could get anxious or upset. She wouldn’t withstand it. We have to be careful what we tell her.

Demir understands. He asks, will my daughter get better? Ihsan can’t say for sure. She could improve this evening or in a few months. Ihsan advises to keep living as you have been. They need to pretend her aunt is coming back and keep Oyku from stressful events. Oyku should continue her normal life, school, homework. Demir nods.

While they wait, Candan asks Oyku if she wants to get something to eat. Oyku is not hungry. But she has a question. How do you know my aunt? She’s never mentioned you. Candan says we are old friends from school. Oyku wonders why her aunt never told her about Candan especially since Candan knows about her. Candan says they should ask when her aunt returns.

Sevgi and Ugur show up. Oyku runs to her. Sevgi was so worried. Why did you leave without telling anyone? Oyku is sorry. Sevgi says, don’t do it again. Ugur greets Oyku; he calls her niña. She firmly states her name is Oyku, not niña. Ugur remembers he needs to introduce himself because Oyku doesn’t know him.

Ugur asks about Demir. Where is he? Candan explains Demir is with the doctor. Ugur asks why. Did something happen to him? He came as quickly as he could when he heard. Is Demir ok? Candan says it’s nothing serious. Oyku says that Demir’s leg was hurting.

Ihsan says the MRI is ready; now how do we get Oyku to go? Demir will think of something. Outside the office, Demir greets Ugur. Oyku asks if they are ready to leave but Ishan says they need more tests. Demir tells Oyku he’s not afraid anymore. In fact, he thinks the hospital is a great place.

Demir makes up a story about watching the cartoon about the little blond boy while he takes a test. Oyku doesn’t know who the little blond boy is. It’s the Little Prince; it’s a book about a blond boy who flies into space. Oyku asks, you’re going to read a book in the hospital? No, it’s more fun than that. I’ll go to a room and I’ll get into a spaceship where I can watch cartoons. Oyku is curious, she wants to know if she can see the spaceship. Ihsan says it’s ok. Before he goes, Demir asks Ugur to tell the others that we are all old friends. There should be no formalities between us.

Demir gets into the MRI machine. Oyku watches and asks Ihsan, can he rally watch cartoons in there?

Candan goes to see Mu-rat. Candan, what a surprise. What brings you here? We need to talk, Murat. Oyku is here in the hospital. She suffered a crisis and Dr. Ihsan is treating her. She lost her memory and we had to come. We were going to find another hospital, but this was an emergency. I came to tell you and to ask that you understand. Mu-rat says he understands, it’s an emergency and Oyku can be treated. Don’t worry. Candan thanks him (not so fast, Candan) and leaves.

Hija #57 part 2

Demir is finished with his test. He makes it seem like so much fun. Demir feels much better now. Did it really make you feel better, asks Oyku? Oyku wants to do it, too. She asks if she can do it even if she’s not sick. Demir asks Ihsan if he can make an exception for Oyku. Demir and Ihsan play it up a bit and then Ihsan agrees to make an exception. Oyku can go in the spaceship. Oyku is excited and she goes to prepare.

Sevgi and Ugur are in the hospital coffee shop. Sevgi asks Ugur how long will Oyku be like this? How long do we keep the truth from her? Ugur has no idea. They will figure it out once the tests come back. Candan comes to their table. No word from Demir yet. Ugur says we have to drop formalities because we are all supposed to be good friends. We must do this for Oyku’s sake, so she doesn’t suspect anything and figure it out.

Candan thanks Sevgi for all her help. She tells Sevgi, Oyku only remembers you and not any of us. She doesn’t trust anyone else. Sevgi understands. She tells Candan not to worry, they can count on her. I will do anything for Oyku. Sevgi has faith that Oyku will recover soon.

Oyku gets in the MRI machine. They remind her to hold still or the movie will disappear. Outside, Ihsan tells Demir that Oyku will be very disappointed by his lie to get her in the machine. Demir knows but he had no other choice.

The test is finished and Oyku is annoyed that she didn’t see any cartoons. You must have moved, Demir says. No, I was as still as a robot. She tells Demir that he tricked her, and she doesn’t trust him anymore. He lied! Oyku goes to sit with Sevgi. Sevgi gets Oyku to calm down. Candan asks Demir if he got the MRI. Yes he did, and they go to speak with Ihsan.

Ihsan doesn’t have the results yet but he wants to keep Oyku overnight for observation. She can be discharged tomorrow after we have the results. This means they will have to figure out a way to keep her here overnight. And after this, Demir asks? Ihsan repeats the same advice, it’s the only thing he can say—Oyku needs to avoid stress, get sleep, and try to live as normal a life as possible.

How can we convince Oyku to stay overnight? Demir thinks of something and he needs Candan’s help. Demir texts Ugur: we have to keep Oyku in the hospital overnight. We have a plan. Candan will be there soon. Please help us. Ugur shows Sevgi the text.

Candan comes rushing to Ugur, Sevgi and Oyku. Candan, where is Demir? She tells the group that Demir suddenly got worse; he was admitted to the hospital. Oh no, how did this happen? He got upset at the hospital staff. He asked why they didn’t let Oyku see the cartoon. He was very upset and that’s when he lost consciousness. Oyku asks Candan if Demir got worse because of all the things she said to him. No, Oyku, it was because he was mad that they wouldn’t let you see the movie.

Ugur asks what did the doctor say? What can we do? Candan says Demir has to stay the night and they will keep an eye on him just in case. Oyku asks to see Demir and she takes off down the hall. Candan runs after her. Oyku, wait!

Ugur texts Demir: Oyku is on her way to see you. Get ready. Demir quickly takes off his coat and shoes and hops into bed. He closes his eyes. Candan checks him first before letting everyone else in. Oyku asks to stay with “Mr. Demir” for a moment. Ugur tells Oyku they will be outside. Don’t stay too long because Demir needs to rest.

dondi356

Hija #57 part 3

Candan explains to Ugur and Sevgi what’s happening. Ihsan wanted Oyku to stay overnight and Demir came up with this idea.

Oyku approaches Demir’s bed. He is motionless. Oyku starts, you got sick because of me, didn’t you, Mr. Demir. You got mad at the employees. That’s what Candan said. I just wanted to watch The Little Prince. But I’m not upset, so don’t worry. I hope you get better soon. Sevgi comes in and says we should leave because he needs to rest. Before leaving, Oyku holds Demir’s hand and says, get some rest, Mr. Demir. I’ll come visit you and I’ll be close to you and take care of you. Sevgi says not to worry they can spend the night here. They leave, Demir opens his eyes and we see a tear fall.

Sevgi gets Oyku ready for bed. She tells Oyku that Demir will drop her at school in the morning. Oyku wants to know if Demir woke up and if he is ok. Sevgi assures Oyku that Demir will be alright. He just needs to rest tonight. Oyku thinks Mr. Demir is a good person. Sevgi tells Oyku, yes Demir is a good person and so is Candan. Your aunt wouldn’t have left you with them if they weren’t. Ugur leaves. Oyku has another question. What is Ugur to you? We are very good friends who have known each other for a long time. Why do you ask? Oyku has a sly smile; she’s just curious.

Demir and Candan are having tea. Demir says what if she never remembers me? Candan tells Demir to try to stay calm. Maybe everything will suddenly come back to her. If not, we will tell her everything starting from the beginning. We will be a family again.
Candan gets a call from Cemal. He’s sorry to bother her but he was wondering about Oyku. Candan says we found her, she’s fine. He asks, where did you find her? She tells him he has nothing to worry about and that’s all he needs to know. He understands and says good night.

Later, Demir goes into Oyku’s room. He sits on the bed and we get a montage of the various cute and tender moments between Demir and Oyku. Demir reaches out and touches Oyku’s hair. (The out of place theme song plays. I guess they didn’t have permission to use the Turkish songs. That is too bad because the original soundtrack is wonderfully appropriate.)

Demir and Candan meet with Ihsan in the morning. Ihsan says the results are back but it is impossible to tell whether this is temporary or permanent. Oyku can be released today. Ihsan recommends that someone close always be with her. Any detail can start to bring her memory back. Be patient, follow the treatment plan and don’t lose hope. It’s important that she continue her medicine. Ihsan says Demir can call him whenever.

Oyku is pacing in her room. She is worried she will be late for school. Ugur is with her. He says the teacher knows what happened so she shouldn’t worry about being late. Oyku asks him, what is Sevgi to you? She’s a friend, why do you ask? No reason says Oyku, just curious. It seems you know each other very well. Ugur says, we are old friends and your aunt’s friend, too. Oyku wishes she met him before because he is a nice person. Ugur tells her we can be friends starting now, little one. Uh oh. Oyku reminds Ugur she has a name and it’s Oyku! Oyku! Oyku!

Hija #57 part 4

Demir is called to an office to sign the discharge paperwork. He’s signs and the administrator reminds him about his debt to the hospital. It totals 6 million. He tells Demir, I have orders from the hospital administration not to discharge your daughter until the bill is paid. What? What do you mean she won’t be discharged, asks Demir? Is my daughter a hostage? The admin says I’m just following my boss’ orders and you just signed a consent agreement. What did I sign, asks Demir? Demir starts yelling. You are swindlers! You took advantage of my trust! I didn’t agree to this! Demir says he knows who is behind this and leaves.

Demir bursts into Mu-rat’s office and unloads. What do you think you are doing? How could you take my daughter as a hostage, you bastard?! Demir sweeps the papers off The Rat’s desk.

Candan is with Oyku. Oyku is anxious to get to school and wonders where Demir is. Candan gets a call from Mu-rat’s assistant. Please come, Mr. Demir is in Mr. Mu-rat’s office.

Mu-rat fires back at Demir, did you think you could receive the best medical care for free? Demir insists that he will pay his debt and leave his daughter out of it. Candan comes in just as The Rat says, how do I know you will pay? What money do you have? Your background leaves a lot to be desired. Demir calls Mu-rat an idiot and steps closer to him. Candan approaches them and interjects, what is going on here? Mu-rat asks Demir, are you going to attack me in my own hospital? Know your place!

Candan demands to know what is going on. Mu-rat answers for Demir, he refuses to pay for his daughter’s treatment. Demir tells Candan that Mu-rat gave precise instructions to keep his daughter a hostage if he doesn’t pay the bill. Candan is shocked and asks The Rat if this is true. Mu-rat admits this is true but calling her a hostage… Demir yells, she is a hostage!

Candan steps between the two men and yells, enough! She yells at Mu-rat, are you aware of what are you doing? You are using a sick child to get back at me? Mu-rat asks Candan to calm down. She doesn’t and continues, we are taking Oyku and leaving. Try and stop us. She makes the point that this debt belongs to both her and Demir and they will pay every penny. Mu-rat tells Candan this isn’t about her. Then who, asks Candan? A sick girl? Keeping her here is totally unfair. Think as a doctor, not as a businessman. Mu-rat has no response and Demir and Candan leave. Mu-rat has sunk to a new low.

Candan asks Demir to calm down. We handled it. Let’s get Oyku and go. He’s not quite ready to let this go. He can’t believe that Mu-rat wanted to use Oyku as collateral. Candan pleads with Demir to get his anger under control. They will see about the money. He tells Candan he will take care of it; she has done enough. He calms down and lets her know that he is grateful for everything she has done for them. They go to get Oyku.

Cemal is thinking about the DNA test. Flashback to Zeynep telling him he needs Oyku’s hair. We see Asu’s diary open on a table. He closes it and leaves.

dondi356

Hija #57 part 5

Sevgi is telling the class that Oyku is suffering from an illness. She asks that the class be understanding and help her. Mercan asks about Oyku, is it serious? No, it’s not that serious, but it is important that she be calm. Please don’t get her upset. This gets Ilayda’s attention. Sevgi continues, please show compassion, and don’t make her mad or play mean tricks on her. Be kind. The children agree as a group. But not Ilayda. She remarks to Mercan, everything is always about Oyku and I’m sick of it. Sevgi hears this and calls her out, Ilayda, be quiet! (Yes!)

As they get to school, Candan tells Demir she will go home and remove Oyku’s stuff, so she doesn’t get confused or upset. We see Cemal is lurking around the school. Oyku apologizes to Sevgi for being late. It’s ok. Mercan is happy to see Oyku.

Cemal sneaks into the school as the bell rings for recess. Kids pour out into the hall. Classroom doors are open, and he looks in to a few. He asks a girl if she knows Oyku and where is her classroom. Upstairs, she says.

Cemal finds the second grade classroom. He looks through the coats on the rack and finds Oyku’s. Mercan comes in and asks Cemal what he is looking for. He’s looking for Ismail’s coat. Mercan says there’s no Ismail in this class. Cemal says he must have the wrong class then. Mercan watches as Cemal picks at Oyku’s coat. He tells Cemal that this is his friend’s coat. Cemal gets a hair off the coat and lets Mercan take it. Mercan tells him he should speak with the teacher. No need to, says Cemal. He wraps the hair in a tissue and leaves.

Demir is updating Ugur. He needs six million to pay his debt to the hospital. How are we going to get that much money? Demir can’t find a job and he can’t take a loan. They give each other knowing looks. They try to resist the thought but finally Ugur says, they have to do it for Oyku. Yes, says Demir, we have to do it for my daughter.

Cemal goes to a medical center and says he wants to take a paternity test.

Candan is getting the house ready for Oyku’s return. Oyku and Demir arrive. Oyku says you have a very nice house. Candan wants Oyku to come see her room. Oyku says it’s so nice. Can I really stay here? Then she thinks and asks, do you two have children?

And we are out.

HIJA

Dondi, another exceptional recap, thank you! I was relieved that this one was not as grim as the previous one, but it's still so sad to see Dmeir struggle with keeping his silence when he talks to Oyku. I guess our wish that Oyku would recover her memory quickly went unheard :-(

Still impressed with Demir's quick thinking to get Oyku to agree to the doctor's recommendations...and simultaneously finding a way to get Oyku to not be upset with him about not seeing the cartoons.

Mu-RAT is vindictive DIRTY RAT! In a way I wish Demir had let loose on him and at least punched him in the face, but then Demir would end up in jail. I cheered on Candan who fought like a wildcat for Oyku.

I was surprised at how easily Cemal was able to walk into the school and then into the classroom to get that hair sample...where was the security guard??? Oh probably running another errand for the someone.

Oh noes! please let Demir and Ugur find some other way to raise the money!

Dondi, ITA agree about the "out of place" song. It's a lovely song but it just doesn't work here.

hija

dondi356, ¡te superaste otra vez! I'm not sure whether that's how one would say "you outdid yourself again," but I often find myself thinking this when I read your wonderful recaps, so I decided to see whether I could say so in Spanish. At least that would vary what I say. :-)

Not surprisingly, I don't have much to add to your very complete recap. Just one or two things occured to me. One has to do with Oyku's memory loss. Yes, she seems to remember no one after her aunt abandoned her except for Sevgi, but did Oyku really attend the same school when she lived with her aunt? I have this very very vague recollection of Sevgi introducing her as a new student after she finds Demir. Perhaps I'm making this up, or confusing this with when she was introduced at the orphanage. I don't know. It certainly seems to be the case that the aunt didn't live anywhere near Demir, and Oyku had to memorize the long list of train or bus stops to and from the school. Once she started living with Demir, they were able to walk to the school.

The other thing that occurred to me as I watched last night's episode is that some of the memories of Oyku that Demir has as he sits by her bed in the hospital are not events that I remember occurring. I'm wondering whether they've cut out some happy events between Oyku and Demir that appear in the Turkish version. This isn't important for the plot, but it did strike me as strange. I can't now cite a specific instance, but....

Like Rgv Chick, I'm hoping that Demir will find a legal way to deal with the money owed to the hospital. He's wonderfully ingenious as a problem solver, but I guess "problem solver" isn't a job title, even though it can be vital to one's success in many jobs. I'm also wondering what may trigger the return of Oyku's memory. Ironically, I'm wondering whether it might be seeing Cemal and remembering how much she dislikes him.

Anyway, ¡muchísimas gracias otra vez!

Hija

Thank you, Rgv Chick and Juanita. You are way too kind.

IIRC, Juanita, the opening scene in the first episode took place in Sevgi’s classroom. The students were reading essays about their families. I have no idea about the previous residences, but I remember that when they moved to the current house, Demir noted that it was within walking distance from the school.

As for the montage, I debated if I should list the scenes. Maybe I should have? I went back and looked again. Except for one generic kiss and cuddle, I remember seeing them. Demir gave Oyku the dress and shoes for Mercan’s party, the kite flying scene, Oyku twirling around while practicing for the play, Demir unsuccessfully trying to fix Oyku’s hair (at Candan’s house), Oyku riding on Demir’s shoulders (we see that in the opening credits), Oyku with the face painting calling Demir “Dad” (that was the first time I think), Oyku making Demir play a sidewalk game avoiding certain colored tiles, a tickle session at the hostel (she said she would pee her pants), painting one of the bedrooms in the current house (Demir let her do this with him before she went to her first visit with Asu), when Demir and Candan picked her up at the orphanage and Demir telling Oyku they will always be together.

ITA, Rgv Chick, about Demir punching Mu-rat!

I think our guys are going to do something they shouldn’t. The temptation is too strong.

Holding my breath for Cemal’s DNA test.

dondi356

hija

Dondi, I'm running out of superlatives to describe your terrific recap!

Still think you need a follicle to get DNA from a hair.

I know this is typical TN plotting, but how long are they going to hold off before telling us who is Oyku's father?

Demir certainly was very clever in getting Oyku into the hospital and tested. Candan also did an excellent job of convincing her that Demir needed to stay in the hospital.

Murat? Pffft! Candan looked at him as if he were a cockroach in her kitchen.

An online currency converter tells me Demir owes over $767K. Can't see how he'll ever pay unless they can get the inheritance.

hija

I do think the song they're playing is appropriate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuUt0Ej3B2Y

Pepe Aguilar is a good singer of rancheras, born in San Antonio. The duet is with his actual daughter, Angela. It's titled Tu Sangre en Mi Cuerpo and the lyrics are about the love between a father and daughter.

OT

In my area, when someone outdoes themselves we say, "Te aventaste!" I don't know how it originated; literally translated it's "You threw yourself." Maybe it comes from "over and beyond"???? Don't try googling it, because you'll got something totally different :-)

HIJA

Novelera, "Sangre en Mi Cuerpo" is a beautiful song and it is very appropriate for any movie/series about a father and daughter's love. What I mean by out of place is that I just can't get used to hearing it being played in this Turkish novela. If this were a Mexican original, then it would be most appropriate...especially if haciendas and horses were involved :-)

Dondi, didn't you once give us the lyrics to the original song?

Hija

Thank you novelera. LOL’d at “Murat? Pffft! Candan looked at him as if he were a cockroach in her kitchen” If only someone would squash him.

I agree that "Sangre en Mi Cuerpo" is a lovely song and it certainly fits the theme of the show. But like Rvg Chick, I can’t get used to hearing a ranchera as the theme song to a Turkish show. Especially after I looked back at some of the Turkish eps and listened some of the original soundtrack songs.

The early episodes played an instrmental opening theme song that is part of the original soundtrack.

The original Turkish show only plays a few bars of piano music at the beginning of the episode and goes right into the story with the credits playing over the opening scene.

BTW, the Telemundo credits misspell the names of the actors who play Candan and Cemal. I think that’s awful.

Rgv Chick, I gave the link to the lyrics for “Küçüğüm” (I’m little), the song sung by Asu in the bar, which seemed as if it was written just for her.

dondi356

hija

Rgv Chick, I hope I didn't come across as snarky. I guess the incongruity of seeing Turkish people speak Spanish somehow made me feel quite comfortable hearing that song.

And I have always loved ranchera music. I particularly like to dance with a partner from Mexico who swoops me around the dance floor to those songs.

I was introduced to all this by a friend originally from Colorado, Latina, who took me to some dance clubs in the Bay Area where this music was played. All this happened before I took even one Spanish class.

hija

I'll do a recap of tonight's episode.

HIJA

Novelera, I did not consider you snarky at all. I too love ranchera music; and how wonderful that you enjoy dancing to it. :-)

Todo por mi hija - #58 - p 1 de 3

We hear Oyku ask Demir and Candan again, "Do you have children?" Demir tells her they don't, but he has a niece who lives in another country but comes to visit, so they have this room for her. Oyku asks her name. Demir replies, "Ayse. She's about your age." Oyku asks Candan whether she's been married long. Just a short time. How did the two of you meet, Oyku asks. Demir tells her that he and Ayse were driving. It was raining. They saw a puppy at the side of the road. The puppy was drenched and had hurt its leg. Ayse picked up the puppy and took it with her. They passed a sign advertising a veterinarian, so they went to find the vet. It was Candan. Oyku is excited to learn (again) that Candan is a vet. "I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up!" announces Oyku. She asks Candan whether she can come to see her at work. Of course, Candan says yes. Demir says that he fell in love with Candan at that very moment. It was love at first sight. Like in the movies, says Oyku. Yes, like in the movies, agrees Demir.

Demir puts Oyku into her bed and comes out again. "Candan," he says despairingly, "I don't know how much longer I can take this!" Candan urges him to be patient and suggests that he go read her a story, as he always does at bedtime. Demir returns to Oyku's room. "I came to apologize," he tells her. "I couldn't get you to see the blond boy, but I have the book that tells his story. would you like me to read it to you?" She says yes, and he starts to read The Little Prince. Oyku quickly falls asleep, with her hand on Demir's arm. Demir is deeply moved. He caresses her lovingly.

When Demir leaves Oyku's room, Candan says that she seems to be taking things well. "My daughter is a fighter," says Demir. His phone rings. It's Ugur. "Everything's ready," Ugur tells Demir. He has spoken with Tarik Daburza. Demir knows him. Ugur says they have to steal three paintings from a mansion in the town of Cumhuriyet. They'll be dressed as workers for the electric company. Ugur adds, "We're only doing this for Oyku." "Yes," repeats Demir, "for Oyku. This is the last time." The call ends. Demir goes back out to the living room. Candan asks whether they can talk. She tells him that she overheard him on the phone. "Don't do it, Demir. We'll find another way." Demir tells her "I know this is dangerous. I'm doing it for her. Each time I think things are going well, new obstacles arise. I have no choice, I have to do it." Candan finally tells him, "If you rob, I'll take Oyku. You'll see neither me nor Oyku again." She again tries to assure him that she's with him, they'll get through this together. Demir tells her she's a good person. "So are you," replies Candan. "We'll get past this."

Demir and Oyku go off to school. When they arrive, Demir tries to go through a modified litany of things Oyku needs to remember. Oyku asks why he's telling her all this. She can take care of herself, and she can walk home. Demir insists that he will take her to school and pick her up when school is over. He then reminds her to take her "vitamins." She again finds his behavior strange. Why does she need vitamins? She's not sick. He goes through a long explanation, the main point being that the vitamins will prevent her from getting sick, and he urges her not to forget them. Oyku replies, "Don't worry--I never forget anything, Señor Demir."

Once Oyku is in school, Demir calls Ugur. "Have you got what we need? I'm on my way."

Todo por mi hija - #58 - p 2 de 3

At school, Oyku leaves the classroom for a moment. Ilayda suggests to her friends that they see what Oyku has brought with her in her backpack. She sends one of the friends to keep watch at the door to warn when Oyku returns. She then takes things from the backback. She considers the notebook of no interest, but then she takes out something else (a book?) just as Oyku comes back. There's a lot of yelling and chasing. Soon the chase proceeds outside the classroom. Sevgi is talking to someone and at first doesn't seem to realize what's going on. Ilayda still has Oyku's book and won't give it back. They continue to struggle on the stairs, and suddenly Oyku falls down the remaining steps and lies seemingly unconscious on the floor. Sevgi keeps trying to get Oyku to speak. She picks her up and sits her against the stairs.

Demir and Ugur, dressed as electrical company workmen, are approaching the house that has the paintings. Ugur says "We go in, take the paintings, and leave." Demir doesn't think it's so simple. "We always do something wrong." He then apologizes, he's just nervous. They arrive at the door, and Demir is trying to open the lock. Ugur urges him to hurry. Just then, Demir's phone rings. Sevgi is calling about Oyku's falling down the stairs. Demir immediately stops what he's doing and says he'll be right there. He and Ugur leave.

Demir and Ugur meet with Sevgi in what looks like the principal's office. Sevgi assures them that Oyku is OK. Sevgi seems to be waiting for someone. In walks Ilayda's mother, La Perra, aka Ayla. "What did Oyku do this time?" she asks in annoyance. "I had to cancel all my commitments to come here." Sevgi tells La Perra (LP) that Ilayda provoked an accident and Oyku fell down the stairs. LP asks, Are you saying that Ilayda pushed Oyku? No, not exactly, says Sevgi. "Ilayda took a book from Oyku's backpack. Oyku started chasing Ilayda, and Oyku fell down the stairs." LP replies, "So she fell by herself. My daughter had nothing to do with this." At this point, Demir is beside himself. "My daughter is sick! She can't even remember her own father." LP's only concern: "Is it an epidemic?" Sevgi assures her that it's not an epidemic. Demir replies, "My daugher is sick. It's a rare disease called Niemann-Pick. Search for it. She must remain calm and can't have others upset her. So tell your daughter to stay away from mine!" LP thinks for a moment, and then says, "I don't think Ilayda should be sharing her class with a student with a weird disease."

Sevgi tries to calm Demir down. She at least manages to get him out of the office. Demir asks whether he can take Oyku home early. Sevgi somewhat reluctantly agrees. As Oyku and Demir are walking away from the school, Oyku asks, "Why did we leave school early?" Demir claims he doesn't now. Perhaps so that they could take a walk. Oyku mentions that her aunt never took her anywhere. Oyku then asks, "Why don't you have children? You should have a child with Candan. You'd make good parents."

Demir and Oyku go to a playground. He pushes her on the swing. He buys her cotton candy. They seem to be having a wonderful time. (For a moment, I feared that perhaps this was somehow a dream.) Demir asks, "Are you tired?" Oyku admits that yes, she's a little tired. Demir asks, "Would you like me to carry you?" "OK." Demir carries her, and she feeds him some of her cotton candy. He brings her home asleep. He reports to Candan that they had a wonderful time. "It was like a father and a daughter." But this idyllic recollection is suddenly broken, as Oyku calls out in alarm, "Aunt, where are you? I want to go home! I don't want to stay here!"

Todo por mi hija - #58 - p 3 de 3

Demir and Candan tell Oyku "This is your home, this is your room." "You're a liar!" screams Oyku."Don't touch me!" Demir leaves the house, sobbing. He sits down on the sidewalk. "God help me, I don't know what to do."

Cemal gets a phone call telling him that the results of the paternity test have arrived. He can pick them up at his convenience.

Candan and Demir decide to try to get Oyku to relive the good moments in her life with them. "Look at the funny face on the eggs" they tell her at breakfast. She replies that she's not hungry. "What if we have a picnic?" they suggest. "I've never been on a picnic with my aunt. But it's cold out, too cold for a picnic." Demir suggests that they pitch a tent and have a picnic.

Cemal rushes in to the clinic. He shows his ID, and they hand him an envelope. Unlike Demir, Cemal quickly opens the envelope and reads the results. All we see is a close-up of his face. It's very hard to tell what his look means. (But my guess is that the results are positive.)

Ugur calls Candan. Candan tells Demir and Oyku that she has a patient and will join them later. (I'm confused at what's really going on here.)

Demir and Oyku go off to pitch a tent. When Demir refers to her as "pequeña," she informs him "My name is Oyku, not pequeña." They pitch their tent right next to a picnic table. Once it's up, they sit at the table and Demir brings out a portable stove on which they can boil water for pasta. Oyku doesn't know why they have to make pasta when they could eat the food Candan made them. Or go for a hamburger at the place across the street. Demir insists on cooking spaghetti, but then somehow the pot gets knocked over and the spaghetti scatters all over the ground. There's a flashback to a similar incident when Demir and Oyku were living in a tent near the start of their relationship. Suddenly Demir says he has felt a drop of rain. They should go into the tent. Oyku is puzzled, since it seems quite sunny. But Demir insists.

Once they're inside the tent, they suddenly hear the sound of rain on the tent. But then Demir "discovers" that the supposedly waterproof tent isn't waterproof. "Ha ha ha, very funny" says Oyku. There's another flashback to an earlier similar incident, where Oyku had also said "Ha ha ha, very funny." But now Oyku exits the tent and sees Ugur pouring water from a garden hose onto the tent. Demir starts berating Ugur, telling him that Oyku was on the verge of remembering. Neither of them notices that Oyku has walked away. She walks about a block until she arrives at...Cemal, who was apparently watching nearby. She looks up at him with an inscrutable look on her face as the episode ends.

NOTE: They have announced that Todo por mi hiha will not be shown tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 2). It will return on Thursday.

Hija

Great recap, Juanita! I really needed it because my TV reception was going in and out last night.

Wow scene: Oyku waking up screaming for her aunt and Demir yelling at her. Demir walking off and colapsing on the sidewalk, sobbing.

Very annoying scene in the principal’s office. Why do Ayla and Ilayda get away with their bad behavior? Oyku and Demir always take the rap for it. Watch, Ayla will spread more poison about Oyku’s illness and try to get her out of the school again.

I don’t know what to think of Cemal’s test. I can’t believe they would make Cemal the father. Would Cemal try to change the result just to screw Demir? Is Cemal suddenly liking the idea of being a father? If only Demir opened his test result so we could be sure! If there is going to be a custody fight, then everyone will have to test again. Good grief.

It was a good idea Ugur had to jog Oyku’s memory but a bit lacking in the execution. Demir had already mentioned his “niece” Ayse. So they chose to recreate the time when they were homeless and camping in the park. Was that supposed to be a good time? I guess it would be unforgettable. Ha, ha Ugur said he was there watering the plants.

Will seeing Cemal bring back a memory for Oyku? Is he going to tell her he is her father? Maybe that will shock her back to reality.

I’ll do the Thursday recap.

HIJA

Juanita, thank you for such a wonderful retelling of last night's events; the detail is impeccable.

Dondi, I must agree with your "Wow scene." I still have to admire Demir for withholding his frustration and pain for so long; he was bound to burst at any moment. I was hoping that his little fit would have jogged Oyku's memory, but again, my wish went unheard.

I was disappointed that Demir continued on with his plan to steal once again despite Candan's threat that he would never see her or Oyku again. SO glad the caper was foiled.

Juanita, my initial thought was that the DNA results were positive...and I still fear that they might be. I reasoned that the results are what led Cemal to spy on Oyku as the little family left the house and then at the park,..but then I remembered that Cemal has been spying on Demir all along...so I'm back to square one. I still, however, am hoping that Demir is the father; I don't want Oyku having ANY ties with Cemal.

Dondi, "Will seeing Cemal bring back a memory for Oyku?" I'm hoping it does, but lately my hopes are futile :-(

Many thanks, dondi356 and Rgv Chick, for your great comments. I too am wondering whether seeing Cemal will trigger memories for Oyku. In fact, I suggested this as a possibility a day or so ago, when I said (in response to dondi's amazing recap), "I'm also wondering what may trigger the return of Oyku's memory. Ironically, I'm wondering whether it might be seeing Cemal and remembering how much she dislikes him." I don't have a great track record when it comes to predictions, but I'm still hoping this one may turn out to be on target.

Rgv Chick, I totally agree with you about not wanting Oyku to have any ties with Cemal. It's hard to see how a positive paternity result will help this plot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that either the result was negative or inconclusive. "Inconclusive" might best fit the puzzling look on Cemal's face as he read the results.

I'm still wondering how much longer this novela will run? Buscando a Frida is said to begin in January, but La Suerte de Loli is said to begin pronto, which I assume means sooner than January. (And they started trailers for Loli substantially before those for Frida.) If there are only a few weeks left, there's probably a limit to how many complications can be added to the plot. ¡Ojalá!

Juanita, according to “People en Español” “La Suerte de Loli” will start at the beginning of the year too.

Thanks so much, Juanita. That was a terrific recap of a frustrating episode.

Do we think they will stretch out the paternity test results until Friday? I know the makers of TNs need to have people keep tuning in (and, in reality, seeing the commercials to pay the bills). But sometimes I just get disgusted with the obvious delays on critical plot points.

I don't have a clue where they're going with this. It surely seems that, if Cemal's result was negative, he wouldn't be following Demir and Oyku. So, are they going with Cemal is the bio dad, but runs for the hills when he learns of the illness?

It was disappointing that none of the "picnic" efforts by Demir triggered a memory in Oyku.

Part of the school problem may be that Sevgi is too sweet and the principal perhaps too used to kowtowing to rich parents. Sevgi should have told everyone in the room that this is not the first episode of bullying by Ilayda that has happened. I fear that La Perra will tell Ilayda about the illness and the brat won't hesitate to bring it up in class.

The thing that's odd is that, while Oyku's memory lapse puts her right back living with Zeynep, she doesn't seem to remember overhearing the doctor way back in the early episodes describing her symptoms. She told Demir last night that she was perfectly healthy.

Thanks very much, novelera, for your very insightful comments. You're right--Oyku never seems to remember what the doctor told her aunt about her illness, and that that was the reason the aunt could no longer cope with her care. In fact, her memory of her aunt is strange. On the one hand, she insists that she wants her aunt and wants to go back to her aunt's house. OTOH, just about everything she says about the aunt puts the aunt in a negative light. The aunt never took her anywhere, she never had a picnic with her, etc., etc.

I too was hoping that the picnic might trigger Oyku's memory, especially when she replied with the same words she used in the earlier episode. But I'm still holding out hope for Cemal being a trigger, hopefully a negative trigger. After all, he kidnapped her and he threatened to hurt Demir. Seeing him again could be the trigger. Perhaps we'll see on Thursday.

OT

Rgv Chick, belated thanks for your suggesting "Te aventaste!" as a way of saying "you outdid yourself." I'd never come upon that before, and though it may be a fairly regional expression, I'm delighted to know about it.

Rgv Chick,
Thanks VERY much for the info from People en Español about La Suerte de Loli . I'm looking forward to this novela, in large part because in the past I've greatly enjoyed Silvia Navarro, who apparently will play Loli. I had hoped it would start sooner than next year, but I guess January isn't all that far away.
