I'll do the recap tonight

Hija #65 part 1

Slight rewind. Demir promises Oyku no more fighting, stealing, or getting into trouble.
Demir tells Oyku, I’ll find out who stole the money. Oyku doesn’t care about that any longer. She made a decision. She won’t go to school anymore. What? She’s tired. She’s fed up with everything, with Ilayda. After what happened at school today, I’m never going back, says Oyku. Demir says, you have to go. He says this is nonsense. Oyku reminds him she is a little girl and not to expect so much from her. Sometimes what she says is ridiculous. Demir says she’s right about that but she must go to school.

Clowder of cats outside Demir’s house!

Oyku is getting into bed. Demir says why didn’t you put your things away? Oyku told him before she’s not going to school tomorrow.

Candan comes home. Oyku jumps out of bed and runs to greet her. Demir notices something off and asks Candan if something is wrong. She asks Demir if they can talk in private. Oyku, do you mind reading to yourself tonight, asks Demir. Oyku says good night and goes to her room; Candan and Demir sit.

Demir asks Candan, did something bad happen? Candan gives Demir the three million from selling her car. What is this, he asks. It’s for the hospital, she says. Of course, Demir doesn’t want to take it. He feels this is not her problem. Then how will you get the money, Demir? By stealing, she asks. Candan says, I don’t know what the two of you did, but Ugur is still missing. Do you plan on disappearing like him one day? What about Oyku? Demir says he would never let that happen.

Candan continues, Murat agreed to forgive the payment if you take this to the hospital. Please do it says Candan. We won’t owe anything anymore. Candan tells Demir she has to change her clothes she has to go out. He asks, where? Then quickly follows with, sorry, it’s none of my business.

Candan is in the bedroom, just about ready. Murat calls. He’s picking her up. No, that’s not necessary, she tells him. He insists; she doesn’t have a car and her neighborhood is dangerous. She wants to know how he has her address. From the hospital, he says.

Candan comes out. Demir takes a quick look at her and then looks away. She says goodnight. He says goodnight but doesn’t look at her. He looks at the money envelope instead.

Murat pulls up to the house and beeps. He gets out of the car to greet Candan. Candan asks why he beeped. Was it necessary? The Rat says, please, Candan, do you think I’m trying to compete with that thief? Candan responds there’s nothing over which to compete. (Yes, Mu-rat, you lose!) He tells her she looks beautiful and he opens the car door for her. Demir looks from the window as she gets in and they drive off.

Murat asks Candan, do you regret accepting my offer? You look depressed like you’re in mourning. She says she’s just tired; it was a rough day. Murat tells her they are going to a great place and he is sure she will have a good time.

The Loca brings Ugur food. He asks her, are you showing mercy because you plan on letting me go? She calls him stubborn and they start to argue. She is ready to take the food and leave. Ugur spies a phone in her pocket. He grabs her and calls her back. He asks her to leave the food and come sit next to him. Ugur tells the Loca he was joking. He starts to make nice, even puts his arm around her, so he can pick the phone out of her pocket. She is falling for it and he manages to get the phone. But she tells him she will keep him locked up a little longer so they can get to know each other better.

Hija #65 part 2

Ugur calls Demir once she leaves. Demir it’s me, Ugur. Demir says, we were worried sick! Where are you? Ugur launches into his explanation, a woman found me on the side of the road. She said she would take me into town but instead she locked me up and she wants to marry me. Blah, blah, blah… he pleads with Demir, save me! Demir asks Ugur to send his location. Unfortunately, he can’t because it’s an old phone. The Loca returns and takes the phone and the food.

Demir wonders how Ugur manages to get himself into these scrapes. Well, at least they know he’s alive now. Demir calls Sevgi and tells her he heard from Ugur. He’s ok but I think he’s locked up somewhere, he says. Demir has no idea where Ugur is but he has the phone number. Can you give it to your father to trace? Of course she will.

Murat and Candan arrive at the event. He offers his arm to Candan, she takes it, and he escorts her in. They get drinks. Two women come over to the table. One of them is busy checking Candan out. The other one does the talking. How are you, Murat? It’s been a while. Mu-rat claims he’s so busy running the hospital he has little time to go out. Are you going to introduce us to your girlfriend? Oh, yes… Fulya and Ceren, meet Candan. The talker (Fulya) says, your girlfriend is beautiful, Murat. You make a nice couple. (Uh, oh)

Candan speaks up, for your information, I’m not his girlfriend. We are just an old friends, right Mu-rat? Fulya says she had no idea and that’s too bad. See ya later, Mu-rat. The women walk away snickering; Fulya whispers, did you see that? Ceren whispers back, yet another victim. (not a surprise that Mu-rat has a “reputation” with the ladies!)

Mu-rat dares to put his arm around Candan’s waist. If looks could kill…he removes his arm.

Mu-rat drives Candan home. He thanks Candan for going out with him. He says they can go out again; he knows a great Italian place he’d like to take her. She agrees to go. (why, Candan, why?) As she goes to get out of the car, he puts his hand over hers and moves in for a kiss. She backs away. He backs off and says good night.

Demir was at the window and he runs to sit down and picks up a book. Candan asks Demir why he is there. Why isn’t he sleeping? He starts to say he was waiting…. Uh… he was sleeping in Oyku’s room and then Ugur called. Ugur called? Demir tells Candan that Ugur is locked up somewhere and the police are tracing the number from which he called.

Demir gets snarky with Candan and tells her she should get to bed. You must be tired after having so much fun. Everyone needs a break. But of course, it’s none of my business, sorry. Good night. She goes into the bedroom and Demir stays in the living room.

Demir wakes Oyku next morning. You will be late for school. They argue again about going to school.

Oyku comes to breakfast and it’s quiet at the table. What’s going on asks Candan. Demir tells Candan that Oyku doesn’t want to go to school today. Candan can’t believe this; Oyku loves school. Not anymore, says Oyku. I’m not going to school anymore. Demir tells Oyku don’t go if you don’t want to. Stay home and cook. Oyku thinks that’s fine and goes to her room.

Candan can’t believe this. She wants to take the conversation into the kitchen. Candan asks, what are you doing, Demir? He says he’s doing nothing and that is the problem. Everyone in the house makes decisions on their own. No one asks his opinion. He says let Oyku do what she wants.

Candan tells Demir to act like an adult. Spare me the parenting lessons, he tells Candan. She feels he is teaching Oyku to quit when she has a problem. Demir explains the situation. Did you know that Oyku was accused of stealing? What? Yes, they accused her because she is my daughter. You still want her to go to school? Candan answers, yes of course.

dondi356

Hija #65 part 3

Candan proposes they go to the school and speak with the principal and teachers and even the parents if necessary. Candan insists that Oyku won’t miss school for something she did not do, but she thinks it’s okay if Oyku takes this day off. She can stay with Mufide while they go up to the school. Candan reminds Demir that they are a team. Demir relents. He will take Oyku to Mufide and then go to the hospital to pay the bill. Afterwards he will meet Candan at the school.

An officer tells Huseyin they have the cell location. A town near Sile. Huseyin says let’s go.

Demir shows up at the hospital with the money. The admin tells Demir that Mu-rat wants to see him first. Demir enters Mu-rat’s office. Well, well, look who’s here, says the Rat. You wanted to see me, Demir says. Mu-rat taunts Demir, I didn’t have faith in you. I thought you’d keep letting Candan handle your business. Demir tells Mu-rat to stop, I brought the money; I’m going to pay what I owe. Mu-rat can’t resist one more jab, I’m surprised that money isn’t stolen.

Close up on Demir’s clenched fist. He thinks back to the promise he made to Oyku--no fighting or stealing or getting into trouble. Mu-rat asks Demir, what’s the problem? Nothing to say? Demir says no, turns and leaves. Demir calls Candan; he paid the bill and is on his way to the school.

Murat over hears two boys speaking about the stolen money. The thief tells the other boy, it’s easy; they keep the money in their coats. I’ll show you.

Demir and Candan enter the principal’s office. Demir starts, money was taken from the classroom. My daughter is being blamed for something she didn’t do. The principal says that Oyku was alone in the classroom. Demir thinks that isn’t proof. The principal makes a ridiculous statement, nobody saw her stealing, but her classmates consider her the main suspect. The parents are demanding we do something. Demir is getting steamed. He asks the principal if he knows how bad his daughter feels about this. She doesn’t want to come to school anymore!

Mercan runs to Sevgi and says, I have something urgent to tell you.

Candan tells the principal she understands they are kids. But Oyku is paying the consequences for something she didn’t do. You know her health problems; it’s been a rough time. There is a knock at the door.

Sevgi enters with Furkan, the guilty boy. She says we know who was responsible for stealing. Furkan confesses and says he’s sorry but he was going to give it back. What did you say, asks Demir. You stole money and planned on returning it? He tells the boy he did a bad thing, and his daughter is very upset. The principal tells Demir they will handle it from here. He makes a weak apology to Demir and Candan. Candan, Demir and Sevgi leave the office.

Sevgi is glad this is over. She tells them Mercan overheard Furkan. Furkan confessed without much of a fight. Mercan? Wow, what a surprise, says Demir a bit sarcastically. Demir quickly changes the subject and asks Sevgi for news about Ugur. She calls her dad. No answer. Sevgi will let them know if she hears anything.

The police roll into the small town and Huseyin shows Ugur’s picture to a man (a local business owner?) and asks him if he has seen him. He hasn’t seen Ugur but maybe others have; he will ask around.

dondi356

Hija #65 part 4

Cut to Ugur tied up in the barn. He yells. You can’t do this! Don’t leave me like this! He continues to bemoan his fate. He yells for help.

Huseyin shows the pic to the gathered crowd. One boy speaks up. Yes, he saw him in a barn. Huseyin asks, why didn’t you say anything? The boy says he did, but he was told he shouldn’t have been there.

The Loca enters the barn. Ugur makes another plea to let him go. She looks as if she might be starting to regret doing this. Then we hear sirens. Police! Come out now!

Ugur is rescued. The police help him out of the barn. Ugur starts babbling to Huseyin, Captain Dad, I knew you’d save me. Ugur kisses his hand. Huseyin is annoyed and tells Ugur to shut up. Don’t you ever stop talking? Get in the car. Ugur keeps talking anyway.
There’s a knock at Mufide’s door. It’s Demir and Candan. Oyku doesn’t greet them; she turns and walks away. Mufide asks about Ugur. Demir tells her not to worry. He will be home soon. She says she will never get mad at Ugur again and goes to make tea.

Candan and Demir have good news for Oyku. They proved you didn’t steal the money! Oyku is elated. Candan tells Oyku she should thank Mercan in class tomorrow. Oyku and Demir ask at the same time, why? Because he found the thief. This doubles Oyku’s happiness and annoys Demir. That’s enough, he says, anyone would have done the same thing. (this jealousy thing gets on my nerves. Demir should be grateful Oyku has such a great friend.)

Ugur asks to use Huseyin’s phone. You are not calling Sevgi, are you? No, he’s calling Demir and his mother; they must be worried. Ugur calls Demir. Captain Husyin rescued me! We are on our way to the station. Demir says he will be there to pick him up. Ugur asks for Mufide. She’s fine says Demir. Ugur gets in the squad car and the Loca is arrested.

Later, Ugur and Demir are at the tea house. Ugur recounts his kidnapping. This is the worst thing that has happened to him. He thought it was the end. Ugur thought that Umran was crazy, but she was an angel compared to this woman. Demir jokes, the worst case scenario is you would be married. Joking over, Demir asks, why did you mess with Sabri? Ugur couldn’t let it go. It ate at him. He hated the idea of Oyku not having her meds. Ok but Demir says not to do this again or else he will give Ugur the beating.

Demir will take Ugur home and he fills him in on the story he needs to tell Mufide about his disappearance. We see Demir helping the injured Ugur as they happily walk along. Mufide is overjoyed to have her son back.

At home Demir goes in to see a sleeping Oyku. He kisses her and wishes her a happy birthday.

At the breakfast table, Candan asks Oyku if she is going to school today. Of course she is. She says, I love school. Oyku announces, so today is a special day, isn’t it? Demir answers, yes, it is special because my daughter is going to school and because Ugur is back. All is good. Oyku asks, is that all? Yup. Oyku gets up from the table. She thinks to herself, how can you forget my birthday, dad?

When Oyku is out of earshot, Demir whispers to Candan that today is Oyku’s birthday. She forgot! She wants to make it up to Oyku but Demir stops her. He has something planned; can she help? We’ll do it for Oyku.

At school is over. The kids file out. Mercan wishes Oyku a happy birthday and gives a birthday hug. She is happy he remembered. He says he will give her his gift tonight. Tonight? He means tomorrow, because he left the gift home.

Hija #65 part 5

Sevgi shows up at Mufide’s house. She asks for Mr. Ugur. Is this his house? Mufide asks her, Mr. Ugur? Then she realizes, ah yes, Ugur. I’m his mother. Ugur is very pleasantly surprised to see Sevgi. She tells him she got the address from Candan. Mufide says aren’t you going to introduce me to your beautiful friend? Of course, says Ugur, Sevgi is Oyku’s teacher. They met when he picked up Oyku from school.

Mufide thinks this is great. Sevgi kisses Mufide’s hand. Mufide thinks Sevgi is so sweet and pretty. Mufide wants to make coffee and they can sit and talk a while. Sevgi says don’t trouble yourself. She has to go to Candan’s to prepare for Oyku’s birthday party. Mufide says they are going, too. They can all go together after they have coffee.

Demir and Oyku are walking home from school. Oyku looks unhappy. Demir says, don’t be like this. He already feels bad about having forgotten her birthday. She is making him feel worse. She tells him not to worry, she is fine. Demir promises to make it up to her.

Candan opens the door to greet them. Welcome home. Oyku gives an unenthusiastic, thanks Candan, and enters the house. Demir shoots Candan a look. Yes, everything is ready.

Surprise! Oyku is very surprised! Everyone applauds. We see Mufide, Ugur, Sevgi, Betul, Mercan and Ayse! Oyku turns to Demir, you didn’t forget dad. Demir says, I could never forget, sweetie. Happy birthday. (The banner says “iyi ki doğdun” which translates to “it’s good that you were born”. It’s the common birthday greeting among family and friends. And I’m sure that’s what Demir said to her.) Love and kisses are exchanged between father and daughter. Demir says to thank Candan, too. She got everything ready while we were out. Love and kisses for Candan, too.

Oyku greets the partygoers. She is especially happy to see Ayse; she missed her so much. Oyku blows out the candles on her cake to more applause. Oyku gets her gifts. Demir hands her a small red box it’s a star necklace. It very pretty! Thanks, dad. Will you help put it on, she asks Candan.

Doorbell rings and Demir goes to answer. It’s a messenger with a letter. Demir opens and reads: the plaintiff, Cemal Eroz, claims that Oyku Gokturk is his biological daughter.

And we are out.

dondi356

Thank you, Dondi, superb recap as always! And thanks for the translation of the birthday banner!

I'm glad the Ugur/psycho storyline is over. I was really surprised that Huseyin followed up and was so efficient in finding Ugur.

MuRAT has really become an antagonizing RAT. He really wants Demir to lose it, but Demir is finally keeping his promise to stay out of trouble. YAY! And he even handled Candan going out with MuRAT really well.

Candan looked so uncomfortable. Did MuRAT really think that she would pretend to be his girlfriend? Like you, Dondi, I ask "Why?" to Candan's agreeing to continue to see this RAT.

I liked that they invited the girl from the orphanage; that was a nice touch.

Looks like Mufide was quite pleased with Sevgi...no surprise. I just hope she doesn't push too hard.

Overall this was a pleasant episode...except for the ending. What a way to ruin Demir's seemingly perfect day.

Hija

I should proof better. I said Murat overheard Furkan talk about stealing money. Of course I meant Mercan! I don’t have the ability to go back into my post to correct.

Thanks, Rgv Chick for commenting. I agree with you on all fronts.

Especially proud of Demir for not punching The Rat, although I would have enjoyed it.

I figured Mufide would immediately like Sevgi. She's sweet, pretty, respectful and educated.

We almost had a totally Ce-Mal free episode. All hell will break loose now but at least we will finally find out if Demir is Oyku's father. Gotta be.

hija

Thanks very much, dondi356, for another terrific recap. And special thanks for your translation of the happy birthday banner. Your knowledge of Turkish and Turkish culture adds a lot!

I couldn't believe what a joyful episode this was. After a while, I even let my guard down, just enjoying Ugur's rescue, the recognition that Oyku was not the thief, no unpleasant surprise occurring when Demir paid the hospital bill (he even managed to control himself in the face of Mu-RAT's nastiness), Mufide's obvious pleasure at meeting Sevgi, etc. I should have known that, not being the gran final, the episode couldn't end on such a happy note. I just hope the paternity suit is the last major obstacle, and that it ends well for Demir, Oyku, and Candan. If this were a Spanish telenovela, I'd be confident that it would, but I gather that Turkish novelas are not so predictable. Fingers crossed.

I wish I knew when in January La Suerte de Loli will start. Last night, Telemundo said Buscando a Frida would begin on January 26, in the 10PM time slot. I'm hoping that Loli will begin earlier in January, but so far I haven't seen a specific date. The date might help me guess how many more obstacles Demir et al. would have to face.

There was one scene last night that puzzled me a bit. When the two women greet Mu-RAT at the "event" and he introduces them to Candan, one woman comments to the other as they walk away, "yet another victim." You say that this shows Mu-RAT has a "reputation" with the ladies. I wonder what would make Candan a "victim." Just Mu-RAT's persisting when it's clear she's not interested? Or does he have an uglier side we haven't yet seen?

I'll do tonight's recap. I suspect the episode won't be nearly as joyful as last night's.

Hija

Thanks, Juanita.

The event scene was a tricky one. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. I had the initial thought that those ladies believe that Mu-rat is a pompous jerk and a loser and that was his reputation. But like you, I began to wonder if there was more to the victim comment. Time will tell.

I went to the Turkish episode to see if there were edits to the event, but it was the same. I didn’t notice this on first viewing, but Mu-rat put his arm around Candan to move her away from a server who came a little too close to her with his tray. Nevertheless, I still don’t like The Rat.

Finally, we get a bit of Turkish music. (When Candan left for the event with Mu-rat) The original ep played more of the song. The song is “Üzülme” (Don’t Be Sad) by Ferda Anil Yarkim.

This episode brings us to the end of Turkish episode 24 out of 34.

dondi356

hija

Thanks so much, dondi. After it was over I said to myself that you got a Cemal-free episode and then you said the same in your comment afterwards. The descriptions were excellent!

I seem to miss things. I did not notice the two nosy women at the party saying Candan was another victim. This seems a bit odd. Mu-RAT's almost obsession with Candan seemed more like a guy who'd never had a relationship with a woman.

I'm pretty sure Huseyin is on his way to accepting Ugur. He had that sit-com annoyance that isn't real anger in the scene where Ugur was calling him Dad. In reading your recap I noticed the spelling of his name. It's interesting that it appears to be the same name as Hussein, but it appears that Turks spell it differently.

And we can see that Mufide is going to be overjoyed with Segvi as a daughter in law.

I was happy to see Demir disappoint Mu-RAT after his gratuitous insulting of Demir in his office.

Hija

Thanks, novelera. You could be right about Mu-rat. He probably never had a long term relationship with a woman. Those women seemed to know him well enough. Maybe one or both went out with him in the past? Then they dumped him quick when they realized he's a jerk.

It does look like endgame is Ugur and Sevgi.

Lots of Turkish names have Arabic, Quranic or biblical equivalents. You are right about Huseyin.

dondi356

Todo por mi hija - #66 - p 1 de 4

The episode opens with Demir reading the court summons. He returns to the party, but his mind is clearly elsewhere, and he soon storms out of the house. He makes a phone call and meets Cemal down by the water. He takes out the summons and demands to know what this is all about. Cemal tells him that he, Cemal, is the true father of Oyku. Asu had told him so in her diary, so he took a paternity test. Demir says it was probably a fake test. Cemal tells him that Candan believed it, and Ugur believed it. Well, Ugur not so much. Didn't they tell you? It looks as if Candan doesn't trust you. And speaking of tests, when you got custody of Oyku, you used a fake paternity test. Demir has a flashback of Ugur explaining that to get the results of a real test would take 20-25 days, and since they didn't have that much time, Ugur got a fake test result.

Demir leaves Cemal and heads off to the clinic where he had had a real test done a while ago, results he tore up without reading them. Now he tells the woman at the desk that he'd had a paternity test done a while ago but he lost the results. Can he get another copy? He provides identification and she goes and gets a copy for him. This time, he opens the envelope and reads the result. All Viewerville heaves a sigh of relief along with Demir: he is Oyku's biological father.

Oyku tells Candan that she loves the book Candan has given her for her birthday. She then asks Candan whether she has called Demir. Candan tried, but he didn't answer. Candan's phone rings. Demir is calling. Candan gives Oyku the phone to answer. Oyku asks why he left her party without telling anyone. He says he'll tell her later. He assures her that he won't be home late; he wants a piece of her birthday cake.

Ugur and Sevgi leave Ugur's mother's house. As they walk, Sevgi asks Ugur why Demir left the party so abruptly. Ugur isn't sure, but he fears that if Demir finds out that Cemal is claiming that he's Oyku's father, Demir may do something drastic. Sevgi asks what Demir can do if Cemal's results are valid. Ugur urges her not to believe anything Cemal says. He's always lying. Demir is Oyku's real father. But why would Cemal do this, asks Sevgi. Ugur tells her it's a long story, but she says she'd like to hear it. He tells her that Demir, Cemal, and he have known each other for a long time, and they used to be friends, but then there was a falling out. He tells Sevgi not to worry, he and Demir are quite different than they were when they were younger. They changed when Oyku came into their lives. Ugur says he's very happy that Oyku has met her real father, Demir, and if it weren't for Oyku, Ugur wouldn't have met Sevgi. Sevgi looks very pleased.

Demir returns to where he met earlier with Cemal. Cemal asks why he's come back. Demir hands him the results of his paternity test. Cemal says, "It must be fake, you got it so fast." Demir explains that he had taken he test a while ago but didn't look at the results until now. "I didn't need to look until now because I knew that I was her father." He goes on to tell Cemal that he has beaten him many times in the past and he'll do so again. "Just leave us alone." Cemal replies, "Congratulations." He then goes on to say, "So Oyku is the product of love between you and Asu. If I'd known, I wouldn't have come between you." There is a flashback to Cemal and Demir in perhaps their early teens seated on a bench. They horse around and fight with each other, but all in good fun. The young Demir says "You can't get angry at me. Brothers don't get mad at each other." He then tosses at Cemal some water from the water bottle they were sharing.

Todo por mi hija - #66 - p 2 de 4

Back in the present, Cemal and Demir are again sitting on a bench. Cemal is drinking a beer. Demir reaches over, takes the bottle, drinks some, and then hands it back to Cemal. Cemal says, " We were brothers, you, me and Ugur. We protected each other. Admit it, that's why you called the police." Demir asks what he's talking about. Cemal continues, "You sent me to jail so you and Asu could be together. You made a fool of me. Why did you leave me behind that night? Why was I the only one caught? Why was I the only one who went to jail for 8 years?" Demir replies, "The police showed up sooner than we thought, Cemal. You were already there. What else could we do? We had no choice."
Cemal doesn't believe Demir. "You planned it--for Asu. Don't lie."

Demir continues to insist that he did not sell Cemal out. Cemal then asks, "Why didn't you come to visit me in jail, even once?" Demir painfully replies, "I was ashamed." We then see (again) a flashback to Demir's angrily throwing Asu out of his house. She is crying and pleading with Demir. "I love you and I know you love me. If you didn't, last night..." He tells her he remembers nothing about last night, and he pushes her out the door. Back in the present, he tells Cemal, "I was ashamed of myself. I couldn't look you in the face. After that day, I didn't see Asu again. I didn't even know she had a daughter." Cemal then asks why Ugur didn't come to see him. Demir doesn't answer that, but says instead, "Despite everything, in spite of so many errors, I was able to find the most beautiful thing on earth--Oyku. I was lost and she found me and healed me. It was a miracle. You can hate me, but don't make my daughter pay for my mistakes. Perhaps it's too late, but I'm sorry. Really sorry." Cemal turns and walks away. Demir has another flashback to their fighting as kids, in fun.

Ugur finds his leg is better. Mufide asks him to use a cane. Ugur's phone rings. Demir calls. He tells Ugur he'll put Oyku to bed and then he'll come tell Ugur what's been happening.

Oyku is angry with Demir. "You said you wouldn't be back late." Candan tells him that she and Oyku were worried. Oyku goes back into her room. Demir asks Candan, "Why did you keep your discussion with Cemal from me?" Candan asks how he found out, but then she tells him that she's sorry, he's right, she made a big mistake in not telling him. Demir says, "I am her biological father. You were deceived by a guy like Cemal. I know this is a marriage of convenience, but at least I thought we were a team." Demir then goes into Oyku's room. She's in bed with the new book Candan gave her. Demir gets into bed with her and asks about the book. Oyku says, "It's about a knight who fights alongside his best friend." "Like Ugur and me," says Demir. He then assures Oyku that though he was out later than he expected, it wasn't because he did something bad. He's keeping his promise. He then reads to her.

Demir comes out of Oyku's room once she has fallen asleep. Candan asks, "Can we talk? I know what I did was wrong." Demir rather coldly replies, "I'll be back late. Lock the door." He then goes to meet with Ugur in a cafe. He wants to know why Ugur didn't tell him about Cemal and the paternity test. Ugur says he didn't want to worry Demir. He thought he could take care of the matter himself. He even called Cengiz and asked whether he had forged Cemal's test results. Demir then tells Ugur about his meeting with Cemal, and that Cemal thinks Demir handed him in to the police. Ugur says that Cemal is hopeless. Demir then asks Ugur why he didn't visit Cemal in jail.

Todo por mi hija - #66 - p 3 de 4

Ugur replies, "Would a thief visit another thief in jail? We've had this discussion before. He's messing with us. I'm tired of Cemal." Demir seems unsatified. He says, "Cemal was in love with Asu." [Both Cemal and Demir seem to take the other's relationship very seriously.] Demir then asks Ugur, "The night they caught him. You didn't know anything, right?" Ugur looks at Demir with an astonished look on his face. [I'm not sure what to make of this.]

Demir returns home late, checks to see that Oyku is asleep, and then lies down on his "bed" next to the double bed so he won't wake Candan. Candan is awake and wants to talk. Demir says it's late, we should sleep. Candan asks whether he's angry, and she again apologizes. He doesn't respond.

In the morning, Demir measures Oyku's growth. As he has done before, he indicates that she has grown taller, when she in fact has not. This time, he claims she's 2 centimeters taller. She's delighted, and she tells him she's going to be taller than he is when she grows up. She then drinks her milk in one long gulp. Her growth may be stunted, but her perceptions are not. She asks Demir and Candan whether they are fighting. She explains, they're not looking at each other. To dispel her worry, Demir kisses Candan, and Candan then kisses Demir.

Ugur comes by. He says he's had breakfast, but he'd have some tea. Demir tells him to go get it. Are you two angry, asks Oyku. The two men leave together. Demir says he wants to walk alone. Ugur says he wants to walk with Demir. Ugur asks, "Are you still angry about my not telling you about Cemal's paternity test?" "Yes." Demir asks, "If the test had been real, do you think I would have let my daughter go?" "Of course not." Demir continues, "Did you know that my father, who I thought was dead, turned up suddenly? Did I ask him for a paternity test? No. I would have accepted anyone who walked through the door and took me from the orphanage.. Any child would have done the same. That's how Oyku believes in me. She didn't ask me for a paternity test. We've never needed a blood tie. My daughter's story and mine are the same. We discovererd that we had a father when we thought we were alone in the world. No one knows that feeling better than me. I met him much too late, and I lost him too soon. I won't let the same thing happen to Oyku. I'll always be there for my daughter." Ugur urges Demir to stop dwelling on the past. He then assures Demir, "I will always be there for you, too." Demir replies, "I know. Without you, it would have been hell. Thank you."

At school, Ilayda is nasty to her friends. They leave. Mercan comments to Oyku that Ilayda has been treating her friends like garbage. Oyku asks Ilayda if she's sick. Ilayda snarls at her (as usual). Then Ilayda goes off to the bathroom. Oyku goes there and hears Ilayda crying in one of the stalls. Oyku asks if she's OK and offers to get her some water. Ilayda tells her to go away.
Oyku leaves, and tells Mercan she was unsuccessful. Mercan says you tried, now let's go out and play in the sun. In the playground, Sevgi is sitting on a bench with Ayla, who is crying. She tells Sevgi that Ilayda doesn't want her parents to get a divorce. Ayla doesn't know what to do. Ilayda has been crying since yesterday. Ayla asks Sevgi to be understanding, and Sevgi of course says she will. Oyku overhears this discussion.

Todo por mi hija - #66 - p 4 de 4

Zeynep meets with Cemal. She asks him for the money he promised her. I think somewhat to her surprise, he hands her an envelope filled will cash. She's pleased. Cemal tells her he made her a promise, and he's keeping it. She asks, somewhat apprehensively, "You're not going to ask me to do something else, are you?" He assures her that he's not. In fact, he's leaving. Zeynep asks where he's going. He doesn't know. "You're not thinking of going after Asu, are you?" she asks. "I don't even know where she is," he tells her. He continues, "I loved her more than myself. But she...." Zeynep replies, "You loved her very much. She had her chance, but she wasted it. Moreover, she...." Cemal asks, "Is there something about Asu you haven't told me?" "It's better that I go," she says. "Wait," says Cemal. "Tell me so we can put it to rest." Zeynep rerplies, "Asu did something that has consequences. Cemal, she...."
And on that note, the episode ends.

Hija

Great recap, Juanita, thank you! The dialog was very helpful I had partial captions in both English and Spanish last night.

What a relief! We put the daddy issue to rest! Demir handled that well.

Demir was so disappointed in Candan, he couldn’t even get angry. I wondered why she didn’t explain her reasons.

So is this the reason why Ilayda is such a bully? Her parents don’t get along? Amazing how Oyku is ready to help someone who has tortured her throughout the school year.

Obviously Ugur is hiding something and it seems connected to Cemal. Did he know about Asu’s set up?

Is Cemal finally giving up? I don’t think he’s going to leave, though. I’ll bet Zeynep is going to tell Cemal about the set up. There’s much more drama to be mined between the three old friends.

HIJA

Juanita, your detail and dialogue is perfect and greatly appreciated, thank you!

Wow, I did not see this coming. I expected a full blown battle between CeMAL and Demir, but we got a semi-reconciliation??? If I didn't know better, I would say that this show is about to end. But it can't be, right? I'm wondering where the writers will go from here without CeMAL creating more problems....hmmmm. Dondi, "There’s much more drama to be mined between the three old friends." ITA!!

I also agree that Demir handled the situation quite well; and he used valid sources to prove himself instead of trying to outsmart CeMAL with his old ways.

"Obviously Ugur is hiding something and it seems connected to Cemal. Did he know about Asu’s set up?" I was wondering the same thing. That was a sorry excuse he gave Demir for not going to visit Cemal in prison.

I wish Demir and Candan would just come right out and admit their feelings for each other. Maybe that's what's next to be resolved. Demir doesn't seem to want an explanation for Candan keeping quiet; she made several attempts to talk to him, but he avoided it. Has he forgotten how he reacted the first time he had doubts about being Oyku's father? If he would just consider that, he would understand Candan's motives.

Fantastic recap, Juanita. I was thinking about your getting such an interesting episode while I watched it.

Whoever here said that Cemal might be redeemed was spot on. I wish I could remember who it was. Me...loathing him the whole way through. Last night we saw the wounded soul who felt completely betrayed.

Well, we're pretty sure Asu was the one who betrayed him. They showed her making that phone call in an much earlier episode. Her motives are not yet clear, but I suspect she wanted Cemal out of the way so she could focus on Demir, even though he'd thrown her out. Or it could also be that she wanted all three of them caught, but IIRC she made the call right after Demir threw her out, meaning he would not have been there to be captured.

Both Demir and Ugur have said that Oyku was the awakening for both of them so as to leave their crimes behind. I thought of the biblical quote: "And a little child shall lead them."

I liked the camera shot of Ugur reaching for Sevgi's hand and her taking his.

I suppose it's meant to be dramatic, but I would think Demir would forgive Candan and Ugur more quickly. They were keeping it from him to prevent him going nuclear, after all.

Anyway, this was a very satisfying episode and, like Rgv Chick, it seemed like a next to last episode of a novela. Not sure what they'll do until January and the only thing that occurs to me is Oyku's disease symptoms worsening, which I don't want to see.

hija

Thanks VERY much, dondi356 and Rgv Chick, for your appreciative and insightful comments.

Yes, dondi356, it's a great relief to have the bio daddy issue off the table. The table is still quite cluttered, as you note. I too found Oyku's response to Ilayda amazing. In a way it bothered me--Ilayda has been so consistently nasty to her, why does Oyku go out of her way to be nice to her? And she did so even before she overheard Ayla talking about Ilayda's unhappiness over her parents' likely divorce. I guess I'm not a turn-the-cheek kind of person, but I didn't think Oyku was, either.

Rgv Chick, I too was stunned by the seeming change in the relationship between Cemal and Demir. It does seem like the kind of development one might expect as a novela is coming to an end, not in one with probably another month's worth of episodes left. Needless to say, I was happy to hear Cemal say he was leaving. Just how Zeynep's coming revelation may change things remains to be seen. And it certainly seems as if there's still a lot we don't know about Ugur. I'm glad yesterday wasn't a Friday. With any luck, we'll get more info in this week's two remaining episodes.

hija

Many thanks, novelera, for your terrific comments. I didn't see them until after I had posted mine. At least this time, the time stamp was the same for both our postings.

Yes, it seems very likely that Asu was the one who betrayed Cemal, or perhaps all of them. I think Zeynep will probably make that clear tonight. But I still wonder what Ugur is hiding.

I'm not all that surprised that Demir is slow to forgive Candan and Ugur. I think he recognizes (as we do) that their not telling him about Cemal is in a way a vote of no-confidence in Demir, and he's feeling very hurt by it, even though (or perhaps especially because) it's justified.

Nice biblical quote, and so appropriate.

I confess that I've had thoughts similar to yours about where the novela seems to be heading: "the only thing that occurs to me is Oyku's disease symptoms worsening." Her extraordinary kindness toward Ilayda made me think that's the sort of thing one would cite at a funeral or memorial celebration. Also, as you note, most of the other obstacles to the good guys' happiness are disappearing, even though we still probably have 4 or 5 weeks more to go. I am going to be very, very angry if we don't have a happy ending. :-(

Hija

"Last night we saw the wounded soul who felt completely betrayed." novelera, from time to time I saw this in Cemal and thought he would be redeemed. But right afterwards, he would do something atrocious, which would give me some doubt. I don’t doubt anymore. I think the coming revelations will bring him around.

What I am still confused about is the timing between Cemal’s proposal, Asu’s betrayal, Asu sleeping with Demir and Cemal’s arrest. Did this all happen within a 24-hour period?

There’s only about 2 more weeks until January and we are in the middle of 25 out of 34 original episodes. I think there’s enough to be explored in these final weeks. Oyku’s illness. The lingering issues between Demir, Cemal and Ugur. Demir and Candan finding their way to a “real” marriage. Who knows what else could pop up.

Hija

It is my intention to do the recap tonight. But we have a winter storm warning in effect (nor'easter) Wednesday evening into Thursday afternoon. We could have around 12 inches of snow by tomorrow afternoon with strong wind gusts. It's already snowing hard.

This means I could have a power outage or disruption in my TV reception. I'll send a message between 9 and 10 pm, Eastern time, to let you know I'm able to do the recap. If you don't hear from me by 10:15, you can assume I had a problem.

dondi356

12 inches of snow! Boy does that bring back memories of my Ohio childhood and youth. Before my ex and I moved to California we lived in one side of a one-story duplex with no garage. It was so much fun (NOT) scraping off the windshields of our cars on winter mornings. And, if it got reaaally cold, sometimes one or both cars would not start at all.

hija

So far so good. I'm able to do the recap. It will be up sometime tomorrow morning.

Hija #67 part 1

Cemal, she….turned you into the police. What? You heard me, says Zeynep, Asu was the one who turned you in that day. Cemal says she’s joking. Nope, she isn’t. Cemal wants to know why. Zeynep thinks he knows why. She wanted to get rid of you to be with Demir, she tells him. Asu got her way but then Demir wanted nothing to do with her. Cemal asks if Demir knows this. Zeynep says, Demir never knew. Asu tried her best, but Demir never got back with her after you were sent to prison.

Then Zeynep tells him, only Ugur knew the truth. Zeynep overheard Asu’s phone conversation with him. She asked him to keep Demir away. Cemal is trying to process this. He gets up from the table without another word and walks away. Zeynep calls after Cemal, are you alright? No answer. As he walks, Cemal thinks back to telling Asu about the one last job and his plan for them to run away together. He has tears in his eyes. (Do you think Cemal got his money’s worth from Zeynep?)

Ugur and Demir are at the tea house. Demir is lost in his thoughts. He flashes back to when he was young. He is standing on the orphanage steps with Cemal. His bag is packed. He’s leaving. The boys hug goodbye. Demir hesitates to go. Cemal tells him to go, your father is waiting for you. We see a man pacing outside the gate.

Demir tells Cemal, I know but what am I supposed to do with him? I don’t even know him. Demir thinks it’s too late to have a father. Cemal encourages Demir saying, don’t worry it will work out. You won’t be alone ever again. Go. Demir walks down the steps and turns back to look at Cemal one last time before walking out the open gate. Demir’s father embraces him, calling him hijo. Demir looks uncertain. Cemal looks on from afar.

We see more of Demir’s new life with his father. His dad comes home after working the night shift. He’s a security guard. He sits to talk to Demir. Demir is nervous and fidgety. His father asks, have you had breakfast? Yes, he has. His dad says he’s done with his night shift for the week, how about a nice breakfast tomorrow? We could go out. Would you like that, son? Demir doesn’t answer. His father reaches out and touches Demir’s arm but Demir pulls away.

Things are getting a bit awkward. Demir’s father says, we haven’t talked since you came here. He asks, are you comfortable? Uh-huh, I am, Demir answers, not even looking at his father. His father asks why are you doing this? You haven’t even looked at me since you got here. Why are you resisting? He asks Demir to try and understand him and give him a chance.

Demir finally turns to his father and asks, then tell me why now? Where were you all these years? His father answers he didn’t know and had he known, he would have looked for him sooner. Demir wants to know how he can feel like a parent overnight. How can you love me so fast? Demir can’t understand this. His father tells him that he will understand one day. You will understand when you become a parent. His father gets up to go to bed. Demir calls out, dad… thank you for getting me out of there even if it is late. The father walks back to Demir, puts his hand on his son’s neck and tells him, I wouldn’t leave you again even if you asked. We will always be together.

In the next scene, Demir’s dad leaves for a night shift. The next morning, Demir is wakened by a phone call. It’s his father’s coworker, Hassan, who informs Demir, “your father passed away last night. I’m sorry.”

dondi356

Hija #67 part 2

We are at the funeral. Demir is standing by the casket. Two men are talking about what happened to Demir’s dad. A young man nearby is listening in as the men say, he was so young and he died in a terrible way. He tried to stop some thieves. He was alone. Those criminals were armed, and they shot him. The young man listening looks upset, maybe nervous. (I get the feeling he knows something more about this)

This young man goes over to Demir and offers condolences. He says Demir’s dad was a neighbor and he told us about you. He introduces himself, I’m Ugur. They shake.

Back in the present day, Ugur tells Demir, your father was a good person. Everyone loved him. Demir wouldn’t know. He tells Ugur, you knew him better than I did. Demir only started to get to know him. Ugur says, let’s go someplace else. No, Demir wants to be alone. Ugur gets up to go but sits back down. He doesn’t want to leave Demir like this. Ugur jokes around and calls Demir the Tin Man, who says, “I want to be alone.” All you need is the funnel on your head, says Ugur. Demir smiles. Ugur leaves.

Demir visits his father’s grave. Omer Gokturk. Ruhuna Fatiha (roughly, pray for his/her soul. Fatiha is a prayer for the dead) Demir starts talking to his dad. Are you surprised to see me? Would you like to know why I haven’t come until now? Because I understand now. You came into my life too late and left too quickly. But in that short time, you did what you could do to be with me. I finally understand now that I am a father… I have a daughter. I didn’t love her at first. I thought I couldn’t, that I wasn’t capable of loving. But I loved her. I realized I could love without making an effort. I learned what it means to be a father. I wish you could meet Oyku. You would like her. I could bring her one day, if you like. Demir starts to clean up around the grave.

School is out. Oyku goes over to a very sad looking Ilayda and says, don’t be sad. What? Sevgi listens in. I know why you are sad, says Oyku. Your parents are getting a divorce but your mom loves you very much. She would never leave you. Ilayda is crying. She wipes her eyes and asks Oyku, how did you feel when your parents got divorced? Oyku tells her, my parents weren’t married. And then my mom suddenly left. Oyku assures Ilayda, you don’t have to worry because your mom loves you. Don’t be sad. Sevgi is affected by what she hears.

Dinnertime is quiet. Demir picks at his food. Oyku has something to say and asks if Candan and Demir are still upset. Why does she think that? Because they haven’t looked at each other for two days. Demir is annoyed. He tells Oyku to look at her food. It doesn’t matter who is looking at what. She wants to know why he is upset. Candan gives a weak explanation. She says they are not upset, they just don’t feel like talking. Oyku takes this as a confirmation.

Demir tells Oyku to do her homework. No, she says, it’s Friday and she can do it tomorrow. He tells her then get ready for bed. No, it’s Friday and she wants to stay up later like her friends. Oyku has an idea. How about we watch a movie? Candan happily agrees. Demir says, no cartoons. Oyku and Candan will make popcorn. Everyone is a bit more relaxed.

Oyku’s plan is ruined by a call from Mu-rat. He tells Candan he is in the neighborhood. How about meeting for coffee? She tries to beg off saying it’s late. The Rat says he is depressed and he needs someone to talk to. He needs her advice. He needs help. Well, if it’s only for coffee, says Candan, it’s not a problem. (Candan, it will be a problem!)

dondi356

Hija #67 part 3

Oyku is ready to make the popcorn. Candan says something came up she has to go out. Oyku is disappointed. Demir tells her, we will watch the movie and make popcorn. Let Candan go and do whatever she wants. The Rat makes sure he blows his car horn nice and loud when he pull up. Demir and Oyku will have father daughter time.

Candan and Murat are having their coffee (and I’m so ticked, I can hardly write). She wonders why he asked her opinion. She doesn’t know about these sort of things. He’s not looking for an expert opinion; he just wants to know what she thinks. She still doesn’t think she is the right person to ask about opening a hospital abroad. She feels he needs an expert. Mu-rat says he’s asking the people he cares about. (Ugh!)

Candan asks what Mu-rat’s father thinks about this. Well, he’s letting Mu-rat decide. Mu-rat is not certain if it is a good idea to go abroad now. Everything he cares about is here in Istanbul. He changes the subject and asks how Candan is doing. How’s Oyku? She’s fine. Mu-rat lets Candan know that if anything happens, Oyku can come to the hospital (what a manipulating SOB). Candan wants to go, it’s late and she has an early start in the morning. He thanks her for coming out.

Oyku is asleep and Demir carries her to her bed and kisses her goodnight. He extracts a piece of popcorn from her shirt and pops it in his mouth.

Demir is cleaning up when Candan comes home. She goes to help but he doesn’t want any. They both start speaking at the same time. You first, says Candan. Demir doesn’t waste any time; he blurts out, let’s get a divorce. What? You heard me, let’s get divorced.

Demir tells her, this hasn’t made sense since we got custody. He’ll tell Oyku this was an arranged marriage and Candan will be free. What is that supposed to mean, she asks him. You will be free to do what you want, to meet other people. He’s going to get his stuff from the bedroom and sleep on the couch. He will wake up before Oyku. Candan lets him walk away without saying another word.

At breakfast Oyku asks Demir if they are going out with Candan today. No, says Demir, I have work. Where? He won’t say. Oyku wants to go with him. No way. Oyku insists on going. She can’t go this is his first day at work. He wants her to stay home with Candan and read a book. Candan asks Oyku if she wants to go to the clinic. Demir squashes that idea telling Oyku she can go with him on one condition. Stay quiet and you will be there until night. Agreed! Candan is glad; she would like him to tell her about the job. He says it’s a job like any other and gets up from the table to get ready to go. Oyku whispers to Candan, I’ll tell you when I get back.

All is good with Ugur and Mufide at breakfast time. Someone’s at the door. Surprise! It’s Cemal! What are you doing here, asks Ugur. Cemal says, I came to see you friend. Ugur tells him to go see a psychiatrist and tries, unsuccessfully, to close the door on him. Cemal won’t leave. He tells Ugur, I learned something and we have to talk. Let’s go. Ugur steps outside; he doesn’t want Mufide to hear what’s going on. Ugur tells Cemal they have nothing to talk about and he has no business being here.

Mufide wants to know who is there and comes out. It takes a moment but then she recognizes Cemal. She is happy to see him and gives him a hug. It’s been so long. Where have you been? I missed you! Ugur explains that Cemal has been abroad. Cemal says he just returned, and this is the first place he thought to visit. She invites him in to have breakfast. Of course, Cemal can’t turn her down. Ugur is mighty worried.

dondi356

Hija #67 part 4

Mufide asks Cemal about his trip. Cemal says, he wasn’t making enough money, so he decided to take work on a boat. He has been working hard for the past eight years. Mufide thinks this is great. He continues his story while looking at Ugur. He says it was tough. He couldn’t go out when he wanted. When he was out in the ocean there was nowhere he could go. Thankfully, it is over now. Ugur is not enjoying this at all. Cemal asks Ugur what he has been up to. Uh…you know, doing odd jobs here and there, Ugur answers nervously, looking at Mufide.

Mufide asks Cemal if he has seen Demir. She tells Ugur he should call Demir. He must miss Cemal. Mufide remembers how the three were such good friends. She wonders why they went separate ways. Cemal says not to worry soon it will be like the old days. Ugur says Demir is busy; he’s not home.

Mufide informs Cemal that Demir is now married and has a daughter, Oyku. Cemal pretends to be surprised. He asks Ugur if he has any news like that. Babies? Engagement? Ugur says he’s not ready for that yet. Mufide tells Cemal about Sevgi. Ugur says they are just friends. Mufide thinks Ugur is embarrassed to talk about it. No need to feel that way, Mufide says, Cemal is like family! Ugur can’t wait for this breakfast to be over. Mufide goes to get more tea.

Ugur wants Cemal to leave now. Are you trying to give my mom a heart attack? What? When your mom is so happy to see me? Cemal repeats his reason for his visit. He found out something important and wants Ugur to answer a few questions. Ugur says there is nothing to talk about. Leave us alone. Stop bothering us. Cemal says he will leave, but Ugur will come with him.

Mufide comes back with tea. Cemal asks Ugur to show him around the neighborhood and they can stop by Demir’s, too. Mufide thinks it’s a great idea. Demir will be so happy to see Cemal after all this time.

Candan calls Sevgi. Are you free? Yes, she’s just shopping. Sevgi suggests that Candan join her. Candan is hesitant. Sevgi talks her into it. She will send the location.

Ugur and Cemal leave. Cemal thanks Mufide and kisses her hand. Mufide tells him, Cemal this is your home. You are welcome anytime. Come back soon.

Demir new job is at Kemal’s restaurant! Kemal tells Demir to hurry and get ready. The place is very busy. Kemal looks at Oyku and asks who is this? Kemal is not happy she is there. He asks Demir, how can you wait tables and look after your daughter? Demir makes his case, Oyku will attract the clients. She’s a good kid, she won’t make trouble. Look at her smile. Kemal gives in. Oyku can sit next to him.

Candan meets Sevgi at the food court in the mall. Sevgi wants to know what’s wrong. Demir is the problem, says Candan.

Demir is busy waiting tables. Oyku is watching with a smile. Kemal starts asking Oyku math questions. She knows all the answers. Kemal is impressed and asks her if she likes Math. Yes, she does. What does she want to be when she grows up? A veterinarian and she knows one, too. Seems like Kemal is taking a liking to Oyku. He tells Demir to make Oyku a milkshake.

Sevgi, says Candan, I made a big mistake. I believed Cemal’s lies. We all did, says Sevgi. How were we supposed to know he had a fake document? Candan agrees and says, Demir is mad at me for not telling him when I found out. He won’t talk to me. He doesn’t trust me anymore. He won’t even look at me.

dondi356

Hija #67 part 5

Sevgi wants to ask a question but she doesn’t want Candan to take it the wrong way. She thinks this might have nothing to do with Cemal. Sevgi says, I know you married for custody of Oyku but could there be something…. Candan finishes Sevgi’s thought asking, between us? (meaning herself and Demir)

Candan continues, if there is something, I wouldn’t know what to call it. We got married for custody of Oyku but... last night Demir said he wants a divorce. What? Why? Because of Mu-rat, answers Candan. I met with him again last night. Candan feels she can’t refuse him because she’s scared Oyku won’t get her treatment. She feels even worse now that Demir asked for a divorce. It broke her heart.

Sevgi advises Candan to tell Demir about Murat just like she told her now. Candan thinks Demir won’t listen. Sevgi proposes a double date with her and Ugur. They can go out to dinner. Sevgi says she and Ugur will leave them to talk by themselves. Candan thinks this is better to do at home. The girls strategize on the best way to do this.

Demir is super busy at the restaurant. He can hardly keep up with the orders. Oyku decides to help. She takes an order to a table and charms the customers like a pro. Demir looks on proudly.

Cemal and Ugur are walking. Cemal gets right to the point. How were you involved with Asu? What? I’ve never had a relationship with her, says Ugur. Cemal knows Asu called Ugur the night he was arrested. She wanted you to keep Demir away. Is that true, he asks Ugur. Ugur says, don’t listen to Asu, she’s crazy. He tells Cemal to free himself from his obsession with her and leave all of us alone.

Cemal tells him he didn’t hear this from Asu. There was someone else who knew what happened — Zeynep. Ugur is surprised. Cemal says that Zeynep was there when Asu called. Zeynep, Ugur asks? Now you believe a woman who abandons an eight year old? Cemal gets in Ugur’s face and yells, don’t change the subject and tell me the truth! Do you have anything to do with this? Yes or no?

We have to wait for Ugur’s answer. We are out.

dondi356

HIJA

Wonderful recap, Dondi, thank you!

Yep, I'm sure Cemal got his money's worth, but he probably wishes he hadn't. He was SO in love with Asu and had so many plans for them We can now start understanding his anger; and all this time he blamed Demir. As we suspected, Ugur had some knowledge; he really looked like an idiot trying to deny everything. I'm wondering if Ugur had enough time to warn Cemal. Guess we'll find out tonight.

The background on Demir's father was appreciated. I take it Demir was only with his father for 1, maybe 2 days? How sad that the relationship was cut so short. And once again, Dondi, thank you for the translation of the message on the tombstone.

Are we to assume that Oyku and Ilayda will end up being friends? MEHHHH Ilayda doesn't deserve it.

Can't blame you for being ticked at the Candan/MuRAT coffee hour, Dondi. Watching them together makes my skin crawl.

Demir waiting on tables was a nice surprise...and it was even sweeter when Oyku helped.

Candan's conversation with Sevgi was a bit irritating. Keeping what she knew about Cemal from Demir is not nearly as big a mistake as her being at MuRAT's beck and call. I'm really surprised Demir has remained so calm, but I was more surprised that he asked her for a divorce.

Hija

Thanks, Rgv Chick.

Seems Ugur has a few secrets. I have a feeling he also knows more about what happened to Demir’s dad. I’m thinking Cemal will turn his anger on Ugur and try to turn Demir against Ugur.

Sevgi was on point in her advice to Candan. Candan needs to make Demir listen. She’s way too passive. Candan also needs to admit she has feelings for Demir. Please let this Candan/Mu-rat thing end soon. I can’t stand it.

“Are we to assume that Oyku and Ilayda will end up being friends? MEHHHH Ilayda doesn't deserve it.” You said it! ITA!

Thanks so much, dondi356, for this spectacular recap! I think you captured not just every event but every nuance. I'm in awe! And very grateful.

I think my favorite scene in the episode was Oyku's helping out at the restaurant. What a delight!

Sorry I can't write more. I've got three Zoom sessions today, almost back to back. I've finished one, and the next one will start very soon.

I'll do tonight's recap.

Five-star recap, dondi! I really appreciated the dialog as some of it went right by me. I was unaware that Ugur knew something about Demir's father's death.

And, yes, Oyku waiting tables, after winning over the restaurant owner, was very special. I wish we could just enjoy her blossoming and having a family without the dark cloud of the disease on the horizon.

Cemal seemed to really enjoy Mufide's affection. He was lying about everything, of course, but he didn't want her to know anything bad about his life.

That was a crazy scene with Mu-RAT. Why call her to come out at night and then pose this question about leaving the country? I'm sure that inside she was screaming: "Yes, please go and can I help you pack your bags." And...so much manipulation. But it's Turkish manipulation, not regular novelas in Spanish manipulation. If this were one of those he'd have already booked a hotel room and been very overt about how she would need to keep the hospital treatments going.

I hope we don't see a rupture between Ugur and Demir. I have enjoyed their friendship very much. At the beginning I didn't like Ugur. He seemed to really enjoy a life of crime and kept pushing Demir to do more. But, as he said (was it to Sevgi?) Oyku changed him.

Hija

Thank you, Dondi. Agree with the sidenotes.

Candan made a mistake a while back when she was talking to Murat, and he asked her about her relationship with Demir. She, in a way, minimized it by saying that she only had a marriage of convenience with Demir, for Oyku. This opened up a door for Murat to insist with her. And now she is afraid to reject him, fearing his retaliation on Oyku's treatment. Candan should have deflected the question, and maybe said that it is not Murat's concern. Now it is causing tension with Demir. And I agree, Rgv Chick, keeping what she knew about Cemal from Demir is not nearly as big a mistake as her being at MuRAT's beck and call.

But, asking Candan for divorce is not fair. She has done so much for Oyku and Demir. Sold her car and gave all the money to pay the hospital bill. And now what? Thanks, Candan. We'll see you around. Without them Candan is very lonely. It would be very hard for her to be without Oyku. And Demir.

Hello Lucio, so nice to see you here. Thank you for commenting and I hope you will stick around with us

Yes, Candan left the door open for Mu-rat and he certainly is taking advantage. We are all frustrated by her naiveté.

We know Demir well by now. He flies off the handle, says stupid things but ends up pulling back. Let’s hope they reconcile. I’m sure Oyku will do her best to keep them together.

"Yes, please go and can I help you pack your bags." Is what we all were thinking, novelera and I’m glad you said it. Your analysis of Turkish dizi v. Spanish novela manipulation is a good one.
