Wow. A lot happened in this episode.
Cemal and Oyku come face to face. She just stares at him and Cemal says, hello. How are you Oyku? She responds, fine thanks, who are you? Cemal gets down to her level looks, her in the eyes and says, I’m you father. Oyku faints. Cemal goes to her, Oyku? He picks her up off the ground. He is alarmed; he tries to wake her. Oyku? Oyku! What happened to you?
Cemal hears Demir and Ugur calling in the distance. Cemal places Oyku back on the ground and ducks behind bushes
.
Demir and Ugur find Oyku and Demir is able to wake her. She says, Mr. Demir, we left the store and I don’t remember what happened after that. Demir carries Oyku back to the car. Cemal emerges from his hiding place and watches them run off.
Ugur drives while Demir is with Oyku in the back. Demir calls Ihsan and tells him Oyku fainted. Can you see her? Ihsan will make a house call. (thank goodness)
Cemal calls Zeynep. She’s about to enter the hotel. He tells her he’s coming over. She’s not happy.
Zeynep enters the hotel and the clerk stops her. She has an outstanding balance. Zeynep asks for some time. She needs a week. No way says the clerk, he can’t wait that long. She tries to negotiate but he tells her to pay up and pack her bags. She is no longer welcome there.
Demir, Ugur and Oyku arrive home and Demir puts a sleeping Oyku in her bed. Candan asks what happened. Ugur doesn’t know; they were at the park, following the plan and then Oyku went missing. When we found her, she was on the ground, he says. Candan says, why weren’t you watching her? Demir and Ugur begin to argue about it. Ihsan arrives.
Ihsan examines Oyku. Oyku wants to know what’s wrong? Am I ok? Ihsan tells her everything is fine, but it looks like she hasn’t been eating well. Oyku blames Demir saying, I told Mr. Demir we should have hamburgers, but he insisted on cooking pasta. Oyku asks when will her aunt come to pick her up. Candan tells her, after work, don’t worry. Ihsan tells Oyku she needs to rest.
Cemal visits Zeynep. He wants to talk. She thinks there’s nothing to talk about. He insists and comes in.
Ihsan gives his medical opinion. It’s part of her illness we should expect it. Unfortunately, these types of events can become recurrent. It’s best if Oyku remains under observation at a good hospital. Ihsan continues, it’s unfortunate that Mu-rat has withdrawn his support. Ihsan feels Mu-rat doesn’t understand the situation. Demir says, he withdrew his support because I couldn’t pay. Demir asks Ihsan’s opinion, do you think we can take her to another hospital? Ihsan doesn’t recommend it. Ihsan just can’t understand why Mu-rat stopped helping. He gets no explanation from Demir and Co.
Cemal shows Zeynep the DNA result. So, she is your daughter, she says. (Ugh) Cemal wants to know everything. Zeynep has already told him everything she knows. He doesn’t believe that. Zeynep has had enough and asks him to leave. Things begin to get heated. He yells at Zeynep to sit down. He tells her, do you know what your friend Asu did to me? My screws went loose because of her. Cemal demands to know where Asu is. He wants Zeynep to take responsibility because Asu isn’t here. Cemal tells Zeynep, from now on you are going to help me. You will help me, or I will do something crazy.
dondi356
Zeynep says, she doesn’t know as much as Cemal thinks. He calls her a liar and asks, what did she tell you when she left her baby daughter with you? Cemal wants the truth. He had asked Asu if he was the father and she denied it. He says, why would she lie about Demir being the father? I lost eight years! Do you think that’s fair? Cemal yells, now she takes off on a plane and abandons her again!
Zeynep claims not know anything else about Asu. She doesn’t know why Asu told her Demir was the father. How could she know that Cemal was the real father?
Cemal gets in Zeynep’s face and yells at her, how could you leave a child with a stranger? Why did you stop taking care of Oyku? You raised her for eight years and then you abandoned her just like her mother did! Zeynep responds, I don’t know. I only did what Asu asked. I couldn’t care for her any more.
Cemal doesn’t want any more excuses. He asks her one last time, why did you abandon her? Zeynep cracks, I was afraid! I was scared! Cemal thinks that is not a very good reason. Zeynep continues, I was alone! No one was helping me! Asu stopped sending money. Finding Demir was the only thing I could think of because you were in prison! Zeynep drops the bomb: Cemal… Oyku is very sick. And I have no idea how to care for a sick child. Sick? Cemal wants to know, what does she have?
Candan thanks Ihsan for all he’s done. He must leave and tells Demir not to hesitate to call if he needs to. Ugur needs to leave, too, and Candan goes to make something for Oyku to eat later. Demir sits on the couch, looking dejected.
Zeynep explains Niemann-Pick to Cemal. He figures that’s why Oyku fainted. Zeynep says Oyku was fine when she left her; this must mean she is getting worse. Cemal wonders if Asu knows about Oyku’s illness. Zeynep has no idea. She asks him, what are you going to do? Will you take responsibility for Oyku? Can you take care of a sick child? Cemal starts yelling again. Why do you care? I don’t owe you an explanation. I’ll find the best doctor! Pay a nurse! He tells Zeynep she shouldn’t have gotten rid of Oyku.
Cemal decides that Zeynep will come with him. He throws Zeynep’s clothes at her. Have you gone crazy, she asks? Yes, he has. He yells, you shouldn’t have left her with Demir! She’s my daughter and you are coming with me. Why, asks Zeynep? You’re going to make Oyku trust me, he answers. You were like a mother to her. She knows you. You are going to help her with her illness. Cemal is worried that Oyku would otherwise get scared and try to run away. You will help me earn Oyku’s trust.
Zeynep reminds Cemal that Demir has legal custody. You just can’t take her. It would be a crime and you would go back to prison. He gets in Zeynep’s face again and yells, I’m Oyku’s father! I have the right to be with her! Demir is not her father! Pack your things! Zeynep tries to reason with Cemal, Oyku is happy now. Leave her alone. He’s not having it. He tells Zeynep, you’re coming with me, understand?
Oyku is still asleep when Candan checks. Demir feels this is all his fault. He can’t keep his daughter safe. He keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. Candan thinks Demir should stop feeling sorry for himself. Don’t focus on the mistakes. Candan says, you have been a wonderful father. You do so much for her, and you shouldn’t give up so easily. Demir lists his recent mistakes including not being able to pay the hospital bill. Candan is encouraging. Demir these are hard times for all of us. We have to be strong because this affects Oyku more than us. She can’t see us get down. She has to feel our support.
dondi356
Oyku leaves her room. She is confused about the time. She thinks she slept too long. Candan tells her it is still nighttime. She fell asleep early. Oyku sees the clock and asks if it is it nine in the morning or nine at night. Night, Demir says. Candan asks her if she wants something to eat, there’s soup. Oyku is hungry. She tells Demir she feels fine but she is not sleepy. He will read her a book. She likes that. Can he read The Little Prince? She thinks it’s a great story.
Candan brings lentil soup. It is one of Oyku’s favorites. Her aunt makes this soup, too, but not very often.
Demir has another bathroom moment. He looks in the mirror and tells himself everything will be ok. He washes his face and keeps repeating everything will be ok.
(That was some clowder of cats chowing down outside Demir’s house. Part of the reason I love Turkish dizi so much is you always see cats!)
Demir is next to Oyku in her bed, reading the little blond boy book to her. “if you want a friend, tame me”… She asks him what tame means. He says if something doesn’t belong in a house, you train it to get used to it. She understands and snuggles a little closer to him as she falls asleep. Demir whispers, all this will pass, sweetie. Everything will be fine. I will never leave you. He continues reading.
Zeynep and Cemal arrive at his place. He’s going to sleep in the living room for a while and he’s going to fix up a room for Oyku. She warns him about custody process. Remember what Asu went through when she tried to get custody? It’s complicated. Not to worry, he’s already got a lawyer. He orders Zeynep to go to sleep. She realizes he will not let her go until he gets what he wants.
Candan gets a text from Sevgi: some of the parents have requested a meeting tomorrow at lunchtime. They want to talk about Oyku. I don’t want to bother Demir. He’s been through a lot and that’s why I’d rather talk to you. Plus, Demir had an issue with one of the parents recently. It’s best if you come instead of him. Candan texts back: Thanks for letting me know. See you tomorrow.
Demir comes out of Oyku’s room and sits next to Candan. He starts, Candan it’s really important that you are with us. If you weren’t around, I don’t know what I’d do. I hope you stay with us forever. There aren’t many people we can trust. I only trust Ugur and you. Candan puts her hand on Demir’s leg and responds, you and Oyku are my family now. I don’t have anyone but you two. We’ll always be there for each other. Note that Demir drank Candan’s coffee. He didn’t care she already drank out of the cup.
Cemal looks at the old three musketeers pic. He flashes back to the orphanage. Cemal asks Demir about the new girl, Asu. What happened to her parents? Demir says her parents couldn’t take care of her so they left her here. Cemal says, our parents died but how can someone dump their child at an orphanage? Demir agrees it’s sad. Cemal feels he could never let his child go through what he did. He wouldn’t leave his child at an orphanage. Demir agrees again. Present day Cemal looks a bit wistful.
Oyku is off to school. Candan asks Demir what he has planned for today. He wants to settle his debt. Candan hopes he will not do something stupid. No, he’s going to ask for a loan. She will be at the clinic. Demir says maybe he will stop by.
Ugur catches up with Demir and Oyku on their way. Demir asks Ugur, did you call that person? Yes, he did. Oyku asks them what they do for a living. Uh oh. Ugur BS’es that they are businessmen. They are partners. Demir wants to know why Oyku calls Ugur by name but calls him “Mr.” Ugur and Oyku tease Demir, calling him old.
Zeynep is complaining to Cemal. How long will you keep me here? I have things to do. Let me go. He tells her it’s no use to argue. She will stay until he gets Oyku.
dondi356
Our group arrives at the school and they meet up with Sevgi. While Demir goes over the rules with Oyku, Sevgi breaks away to take a call from a parent about the lunchtime meeting. Ugur overhears. A parents meeting? Shhh… Demir doesn’t know. It’s because of Ayla. She tells Ugur, I don’t want to upset Demir, so I asked Candan instead. Ugur understands and says Ayla is a heartless witch and Sevgi agrees.
Oyku walks to the class with Sevgi. Demir wants to know what Ugur and Sevgi spoke about. Ugur says Demir is being nosy. They were talking about life, that’s all.
Cemal meets with a lawyer, someone that Arif recommended. He tells the lawyer he recently found out he has an eight year old daughter and wants custody. Someone else has her now. The lawyer says the judge will ask for proof of paternity. Cemal pulls out the test result and shows it to the lawyer. He tells Cemal it can be used as evidence, but the judge will ask for another test. Cemal explains that the people who have her now will fight to retain custody. The lawyer explains, If the judge confirms the test, there should be no problems. Nevertheless, it will take a while, about a month. The lawyer advises Cemal to stay away from the family until they are notified by the court. This will take about 15 days. Don’t give them a heads up or they could leave with the child.
Demir and Ugur go to meet with Nuri for a loan. Nuri looks happy to see them. He recalls good memories of past work together. He asks, what brings you here today? We are not in the biz anymore, Demir says, I need a big favor. Nuri doesn’t think this is good. He senses that Demir is desperate and will have nothing to offer in exchange but since they are friends, he is willing to consider it. Demir tells him, I need a loan. I’ll pay you back. I need six million. Are you joking, says Nuri? How will you pay this back? Ugur says they will take a job. They could work for Nuri.
Nuri laughs. He won’t give the money or give them a job. They left Tarik hanging with that last job when they didn’t steal the paintings. And 6 mil is too much money. It’s too risky for Nuri; he is sorry. Our guys leave. Ugur is offended but Demir says we will just find someone else. Ugur says they will figure this out like they always do.
The kids are working on a science project. Oyku is having trouble making a rocket. She goes to use her scissors and has a spasm in her hand. The scissors drop to the floor. Sevgi helps her. Ilayda can’t resist making a crack and says Oyku’s rocket is ugly. Sevgi tells her to watch what she says. The bell rings for lunch. I think Sevgi says they should finish their projects at home. Ay, my aunt is in Eskisehir, Oyku says, what will I do?
Candan shows up for the meeting. Oyku asks what she is doing there. When Candan tells her it’s a parents meeting, Oyku objects. You shouldn’t be here; my aunt should be here. I want my aunt. I don’t want you to know about my schoolwork. Oyku wants Candan to call her aunt and tell her to come to the meeting. Candan tells her she called her aunt. She asked Candan to come. Oyku is frustrated she can’t talk to her aunt. I can’t see my aunt! When is she coming back, Oyku exclaims. Oyku wants Candan to tell her everything that happens at the meeting.
dondi356
Ugur and Demir visit Kurnaz. Demir asks for work. Don’t make me laugh, says Kurnaz, everyone is talking about you. You ruined your reputation. Demir starts arguing with him. Ugur has to drag Demir out before it comes to blows.
Cemal arrives home. We find he has locked Zeynep in the apartment like a prisoner. He has brought food for her. She asks about the lawyer. Cemal says it went great. So, you are going to do it, she asks? Yes, it’s already started. He tells her that Demir can’t find out yet. He might run. Zeynep says this is great, give me my phone and let me go. Cemal raises his voice and reminds Zeynep she is staying until Oyku gets settled in with him. Zeynep has lost her appetite.
Before the meeting even starts, Ayla is spreading her poison to another mother. She can’t take this situation, so she spoke with the principal and asked for this meeting. Candan overhears it and is disgusted. Sevgi starts the meeting. We are here today to discuss a particular complaint made to the administration. Sevgi turns the floor over to Ayla.
Alya starts, it’s obvious there is a problem with a student in this class. My daughter, Ilayda, is an exemplary student; she never has a problem with her classmates. But lately she has been involved in a few violent situations. She goes on, we need to protect our children from dangerous people. That girl, Oyku, has proven to be aggressive. All she does is harass my daughter. This gets Candan’s special attention. (I can hardly type this, I’m so angry) Maybe her father is the problem, Ayla says. We see some exasperated looks from the parents, particularly Mercan’s mom. Ayla continues, he was invited but hasn’t bothered to come. Sevgi interjects to stop her.
Candan speaks up. She tells the witch, you don’t know what you are talking about. Ayla fires back, who are you and why are you here? Candan says she is Oyku’s guardian. Alya addresses the group again. Don’t you see? Of course she has behavioral problems; she has a new guardian every day. This girl doesn’t have family to guide her! Candan warns Ayla to watch her words; she is talking about a child. Did you call everyone here just to talk about Oyku’s family?
Cut to the lunchroom and Ilayda is at it again. She mocks Oyku’s behavior when she had trouble with her project. Ilayda doesn’t get a rise out of Oyku so she tries another angle and asks, who were you talking to in the classroom? Is she your dad’s new girlfriend? Where is your mother? Oyku answers, my mom and dad died, understand? Ilayda calls Oyku a liar. Oyku responds, I’m not a liar and leave me alone! Ilayda insists that Oyku stop lying. She says, your dad brings you to school every day. Oyku just stares at her.
And we are out.

(That was some clowder of cats chowing down outside Demir’s house. Part of the reason I love Turkish dizi so much is you always see cats!) I noticed the cats...WOW!! Other than Candan's and Demir's conversation on the couch, this is probably the scene I enjoyed most...Sheesh I can't even smile at those scenes because I still have that horrible revelation in the back of mind...and that just puts a sour taste on everything else :-(
More laters...
Wow, dondi356, you've done it again! It's a superb recap of an excruciating episode. I bet you're sorry for offering to do Thursday, but needless to say I'm grateful to you for sparing me from having to do it. (I'll do tonight's recap--I hope it's more upbeat than last night's was, but I'm not optimistic.)
It's too bad Zeynep can't get away from Cemal. He has essentially kidnapped her, and she could have him arrested, if only she could escape.
So now we may have an indication of where the plot is going. Cemal wants Zeynep to win Oyku's trust for him. It's probably a better plan than Cemal realizes, since at this point in Oyku's illness, she remembers and trusts only her "aunt," so whatever Zeynep tells her she'll presumably believe. Arrgh. I'm still hoping that something will trigger Oyku's memory.
I found it interesting that the judge may order a second paternity test. Perhaps Cemal's first one will turn out to be flawed? Yeah, I know, I'm clutching at straws. Even hoping for a memory trigger is a stretch, but if Oyku's memory does return, and she remembers that Cemal kidnapped her and threatened to hurt Demir....
Thanks for mentioning the cats. I confess that I wondered what they were doing there.
I really felt for you having to write this recap, and I felt your pain as you wrote "(I can hardly type this, I’m so angry)." Just know that those of us watching the episode and then reading your recap shared your anger.
Thanks, Rgv Chick and Juanita. I expect many more emotional eps to recap. Get ready, Juanita! In some ways it helps lessen the sting when I pound on the keyboard! And it really helps when one has such appreciative readers as yourselves.
I am disappointed that the writers chose to make Cemal the father. That’s if we can believe the test is legit. But isn’t it rare that tests are faulty? Anyway, I would think the court would order new tests. Testing should be supervised so the result can’t be tampered with.
I was ticked at both Cemal and Ayla but, surprisingly, I felt more anger towards Alya. As of now, it seems that she and her brat have absolutely no redeeming qualities and get away will disgusting behavior. I wonder if we will get any background info on why they behave like this.
Maybe I felt slightly less anger at Cemal because I have some knowledge of his past and he seemed like a decent kid. Circumstances have made him a bitter man and he’s acting out of pain. I know it doesn’t make it right. I feel the writers may slowly be setting Cemal up for redemption. Is that possible? Would he give his life for Oyku if he really is her bio father?
I like the idea that Zeynep might escape, Juanita. It’s possible because Cemal’s nefarious plans haven’t worked very well for him so far. Since she dislikes Cemal and seems to want what’s best for Oyku, Zeynep could become an ally to Demir. Is that too much to ask?
Thank goodness for the cats! I need more cats!
dondi356
Thanks again, dondi, for another stellar recap. And, I'm with the others in commiserating at your having to write such sad things.
For some reason I had a bit of hope after Tuesday's cliffhanger that seeing Cemal would shock Oyku into remembering everything.
Cemal has repeatedly caused Oyku's illness to worsen. There was the threat of harming Demir if she didn't choose Asu in court. There was the outright kidnapping of Oyku. And, approaching her in the street and telling her he was her father. Dr. Ihsan has said several times that trauma and fright speed up her illness.
And, it's odd that, even before hearing about her illness, Cemal felt he could walk up to a child in the street and say he was her father a short while after kidnapping her. Wouldn't he expect her to run the other way screaming?
And kidnapping Zeynep doesn't work for me. It's ridiculous that she couldn't have evaded him as they left the hotel, screaming at the top of her lungs, if necessary.
And, why does Cemal think that DNA trumps court-appointed custody? Especially since the person asking for custody just served an 8 year prison sentence. Demir and Ugur were all over the news, but they were exonerated. And I'm not aware they've ever said that Demir was ever convicted of a crime. Ugur was, but Demir managed to get him out.
Like the rest of you, I really hate the way the plot is going. I simply can't imagine Cemal having any sincere feelings for Oyku. It appears to me he wants her mostly because Demir has her.
Thanks, novelera. And thanks for reminding me why I should not soften on Cemal. His actions have been despicable to say the least. But I think the writers might have a change in store for him because they show us glimpses of a decent person (mostly in flashback) under the vengeful anger. Now he knows that Oyku is sick; that could be the game changer.
Zeynep needed some place to go after being booted from the hotel. She had no money. Where would she have gone if she didn’t go with Cemal? I wonder if he paid her bill.
dondi356
We again hear Ilayda tell Oyku, "Your father takes you to school every day." Oyku insists that her parents are dead, and that it's "Señor Demir who takes her to school. Oyku is clearly upset. She leaves the classroom and goes to the bathroom, where she closes herself in one of the stalls to calm down.
The parents' meeting takes place. Ayla (better known to Viewerville as La Perra) is being her usual intolerable self. She announces, "I won't have my daughter in a class with a sick girl. I won't put my daughter's health at risk. It's dangerous! They've been keeping this a secret. It makes the girl act unpredictably. God must be punishing her." Candan contradicts Ayla and criticizes what she says. Finally she tells Ayla, "If you don't shut your mouth, I'll shut it for you." [Viewerville cheers] Sevgi too contradicts Ayla, explaining that Oyku's illness is neurological, not contagious, and she accuses Ayla of being insensitive. [Viewerville cheers again] Ayla asks, "Do you know who you're talking to? Do you know who I am?" Mercan's mother speaks up: "Señora Ayla, you're acting ridiculous. Oyku is a great child. I'm very happy that she is friends with my son, and she's been very good for him. If your daughter has so many conflicts with her classmates, perhaps you should transfer her to another school." [Cheer #3]
Candan has left the meeting in a rage. She keeps remembering the trash Ayla was spewing about Oyku. She gets into her car, and I was afraid she'd drive off while still in a rage and get into an accident. Instead, she calls Mu-RAT on her cellphone and asks to meet him for coffee.
Demir picks Oyku up after school. She's in a bad mood. She wasn't able to finish the rocket she was making (and of course Ilayda said it was ugly). She asks Demir more emphatically to please call her aunt. He says they can do so that evening, but Oyku insists she wants to talk to her NOW. Demir pretends to do so. He calls Candan and speaks to her as if she were Zeynep. Candan says she's not feeling well, and Demir repeats this to Oyku. Oyku still wants to talk with her, and so Demir gives her the phone. Candan makes her voice sound as if she has a bad cold, and she talks briefly to Oyku. Oyku asks where she is, and she says she's in Eskisehir, and now that she's sick, she'll have to stay there for a while until she's better. Oyku tells her she's sorry she's sick. "I miss you," Oyku says. Then Oyku gives the phone back to Demir. Candan asks him, "Did it work?"
Candan's plan worked with Oyku, but she isn't so successful with Mu-RAT. She tells him that they're old friends, but recently she feels he's changed, she doesn't know him. He insists that she's the one who has changed, living with that low-life and trying to be the mother of his child. Candan again berates him for going back on his offer to take care of Oyku's hospital bills. "You're putting a sick child at risk and throwing away your ethics because you didn't get what you wanted." He tells her that Oyku isn't the problem, her father is. "He's not taking care of his daugher. How can the hospital support someone like that?" He then asks, "Are you in love with him? Are you using Oyku to ingratiate yourself with him?" Candan is furious. She reminds him that the marriage was for Oyku's sake. Mu-RAT says, "Well, since you don't feel anything for this guy and since the marriage is a sham, I want to let you know how I feel about you. I want to ask you to be with me. If we were together, I'd be able to cover the hospital expenses." An enraged Candan leaves.
Sevgi has agreed to have coffee with Ugur. They're at the coffee shop. Ugur is making a case for himself. Sevgi tells him she knows he's a good person, but he's done some bad things. Ugur talks about a second chance. Just then Sevgi's phone rings. "Hello Dad. Yes, I'll be home soon. No, no one is with me. Yes, I'm leaving now." She tells Ugur she has to go.
Demir calls Candan. She tells him she needed to see someone, but she'll be back soon. Demir says she sounds strange. No, nothing's wrong. The call ends. She then calls her brother. He's somewhat alarmed to hear from her, since where he is (in the United States?) it's the middle of the night. She assures him that she's OK. He quickly tells her that he doesn't have any money, so he can't lend her any. When he does have some, he'll be happy to help.
Candan returns to the house. Oyku greets her very warmly. She then asks Candan what happened at the meeting. "Did Maestra Sevgi say anything about me?" "Of course she did," Candan replies. "She said you were the epitome of a model student, hardworking and obedient." (That wouldn't have delighted me, but Oyku is apparently thrilled. "Super!" she exclaims.) Demir wants to know what meeting they're talking about. Candan tells him that Sevgi didn't want to bother him, so she asked Candan to come instead. She then tells him about Ayla. "It's a good thing you weren't there," Candan remarks. "I was so angry I almost strangled her." Demir thinks he should pull Oyku out of that school, so she wouldn't have to deal with such people. Candan talks him out of this.
Oyku comes into the livingroom in her pajamas. "Who will read to me tonight?" Candan and Demir say "I will" simultaneously. They decide that since Demir read last night, it's Candan's turn. Candan and Oyku go to Oyku's room, leaving Demir in the livingroom. He comes upon Oyku's diary and starts to read. It's clear she wrote it before she lost her memory. She writes that she's sad Asu has left, but Candan cares about her and takes much better care of her than Asu did. And she's very very happy, Candan and Demir are married. Candan comes out of Oyku's room. Oyku has fallen asleep. Demir says he thinks they should hide the diary. Oyku would be very upset if she sees it. They decide to hide it in a kitchen cabinet.
Candan tells Demir that she spoke with Mu-RAT. "I thought I could make him change his mind." Demir asks what Mu-RAT said. "He told me he'd cover the expenses if we were in a relationship." Not surprisingly, Demir is furious. "No one talks to my wife like that!" Candan reminds Demir that theirs is a marriage of convenience. A hurt and angry Demir replies, "Let me know if you want to be with him!" Both Candan and Demir are upset. They sit in different rooms, staring at their wedding bands.
In the morning, Oyku wakes up and calls for Demir. She's very excited that he finished her rocket in a cute way. She thanks him and kisses him and then thanks him again. The three of them leave the house. Candan gets into her car, while Demir walks Oyku to school. When they're alone, the ever perceptive Oyku asks, "Señor Demir, did you and Candan fight?" Why do you ask, says Demir. "You're acting as if you're angry."
When Candan arrives at her clinic, Cemal greets her. She replies very coldly. He then asks, "How is Oyku?" "Her father and I are taking good care of her," replies Candan. "What father are you speaking about?" asks Cemal. "The true father or the false one?"
"I'm Oyku's father," says Cemal. He shows her the test results and explains, "I took a hair from Oyku's coat. If you don't believe me, have Oyku and Demir tale another test." Candan asks what he's going to do. "I'm going to take her from Demir." "You can't!" protests Candan. Cemal replies, "It's obvious I can take better care of her than Demir, and give her access to better doctors and hospitals." "How can you say that?" asks Candan. "You just kidnapped her, you made her have the worst experience of her life. I won't let you hurt an innocent girl!" Cemal makes it clear that he's confident he'll succeed. He's about to leave, but Candan calls to him. "Wait. Oyku lost her memory. She remembers only her aunt. Please wait until she gets better." Needless to say, Cemal finds this piece of information very interesting. "She remembers only her aunt?" He pauses, and then says "Sooner or later, I'm taking her from Demir." He leaves.
Demir and Oyku arrive at the school steps. Oyku starts going up the steps, then stops, walks back down, kisses Demir and thanks him again for his help with the rocket. She goes back up the stairs. Demir receives a phone call from Ugur. "I'll be right there," he says. They meet in a coffee shop. Ugur shows him his new plan. He opens a case that holds about a dozen or so watches, knockoffs of famous brands. Demir points out that it won't cover the hospital bills. Ugur feels it's a start, and it's "good honest work." (No, he wasn't being sarcastic.) Ugur takes the case outside and tries to show Demir how easy it will be to sell them. Several people pass by, uninterested. Then one guy comes, asks how much they cost. Demir answers 5000 while Ugur simultaneously says 4000. The guy offers 3000. Sold.
In the classroom, Sevgi examines her students' rockets and offers praise. She's especially enthusiasatic about Mercan's and Oyku's. Oyku tells her that Señor Demir helped her at home. Ilayda hears this, comes over, and asks Oyku "Why do you call him Señor Demir?" Oyku tells her it's none of her business.
Ugur and Demir have another customer. Ugur puts a watch on the man's wrist. Suddenly Demir spots two policemen heading their way. He and Ugur flee, but they're caught. Ugur protests, "We didn't steal anything" but they're taken to the police station. And, of course, Captain Hussein.is there to greet them. He really doesn't seem inclined to put them in jail. He warns them, "If I see you selling watches again, I'll throw you in jail." Ugur keeps calling him Papi, which of course enrages Hussein. Moreover, Ugur makes the mistake of asking Hussein to please not tell Sevgi about this. That almost lands them in jail. Hussein warns him to stay away from his daughter. Finally, the police captain says, "I don't want to see you again. Get out of my sight!" As they leave, Ugur asks the captain whether he'll return the watches.
Sevgi takes Ilayda aside and asks her why she doesn't leave Oyku alone. Oyku sees the two of them talking and walks over to where they are, just ask Ilayda tells Sevgi, "I think you're angry with me only because Oyku is sick." Oyku hears her, and the episode ends with Oyku looking puzzled and disturbed.
Great recap of another emotionally distressing episode, Juanita. Thank you so much!
Appalling behavior was in full effect last night: La Perra, Mu-RAT, Ce-MAL.
Candan stood up for Oyku just as any mother would for her child, but I had special appreciation for Mercan’s mother, Betul. She set a great example for the other parents.
Candan must be a glutton for punishment to meet with The Rat. That was one of the worst declarations of love, I have ever seen. Did he really think he would win Candan like that? Is it possible Candan would pretend to go with Mu-RAT just to get the bills paid?
Istanbul time is 8 hrs. ahead of NY, so I guess it could be middle of the night if her brother was further west. Now we know where the paintings went. Candan’s brother mentioned selling the paintings to settle his debts.
Demir took the meeting news rather well. I thought he would be angrier that they kept him out of the loop.
I expect Zeynep to show up at Demir’s house next week, “courtesy” of Cemal.

Thanks very much, dondi356, for your great comments. I guess from now on I'll follow your lead not just with "Mu-RAT" but with "Ce-MAL" as well. Love it! I guess both AY-al and Il-AY-da include AY, as in AY AY AY. But that's not as neat as the others.
I'm glad you mentioned Candan's brother selling the paintings.
I confess that Candan puzzles me. When talking to both Mu-RAT and Demir, she emphasizes that hers is a marriage of convenience done for Oyku. It's no wonder that Mu-RAT felt she didn't care for Demir, and no wonder that Demir was hurt when she described her marriage that way to Demir as well. What's with that woman? She seems to have normal emotions in general, and she does seem to care a LOT for Demir, so why does she keep insisting that the marriage is only because of Oyku, even if it started that way?
The moment Candan started to tell Ce-MAL about Oyku's remembering only her aunt, I groaned and screamed STOP! at the TV. Like you, I totally expect Zeynep to come to see Oyku, and goddess only knows what she'll tell her. My only hope is that Zeynep doesn't like Ce-MAL and she has no desire to deal with an increasingly ill child, so perhaps she won't do what Ce-MAL wants her to. One other possibility: seeing Zeynep may, ironically, be the trigger that restores Oyku's memory. I guess we'll see.
Juanita, I think the designation "Ce-MAL" is an appropriate fit, but IIRC, Rgv Chick came up with that a few weeks ago. Don't know why it didn't stick then. It was great. I should have given the attribution with my post. Sorry, Rgv Chick.
The Candan Paradox: she's an intelligent, professional woman but she is naive and gullible, too. I also think she is afraid of getting hurt.
I hope Zeynep does the right thing by Oyku.

Candan was quite the tiger, but like Dondi, I was especially impressed with Betul. It would have been nice if some of the other parents would have chimed in after Betul.
I took Mu-RAT's proposition to be much worse. I think that he was suggesting that Candan have a sexual relationship with him (to put it mildly) and that is why Candan became so upset.
Candan puzzles me too, Juanita. She just doesn't want to accept that she is in love with Demir. Her repetitious, "It's only a marriage of convenience" is her way of convincing herself that she is not in love with him. I'm wondering why she won't accept it, though; is she embarrassed at that the fact that she could love someone like Demir?
And Juanita, we were screaming, "STOP!" at the same time. Candan is so naive, but honest; I have to give her credit for telling Demir what Mu-RAT proposed.
I too expect Zeynep to show up next week. I'm sure she doesn't like CeMAL, but I do think she will do as he says. I dread the moment Oyku's memory is restored if she happens to be with Zeynep and CeMAL. From what I recall, Oyku doesn't remember anything that happens during her episodes. She'll be in shock. Poor little girl, the writers weren't sufficiently satisfied with giving her a fatal disease, they also gave her a %#$@ of a sperm donor...if it is confirmed that he is the sperm donor...I REFUSE to call him a "father." I'm still hoping that he either changed the results or the results were mixed up with someone else's...something! anything!
Thanks, dondi, for reminding me of Rgv Chick's great multilingual pun on Cemal=C'est mal.
Rgv Chick, thanks for your terrific comments. Like you and dondi356, I was most impressed with Betul's gutsy and heartfelt defense of Oyku, and her letting AyAyAyla know that she was making a fool of herself.
And yes, the other aspect of Candan's naiveté is her honesty. She tells it like it is, whether to Mu-RAT or Ayla or C'est Mal or Demir. I just wish she were more honest with herself about her feelings for Demir.
And I too am hoping that somehow C'est Mal turns out not to be Oyku's sperm donor.
Juanita, fantastic recap! I loved your asides.
I'm not happy with Candan's brother. He seems like a nice guy, from what we've seen. I kept wondering why Candan didn't sell the paintings and pay Oyku's hospital bill. So now we know why. It appears he took his part of the inheritance, which was a business that he apparently ran into the ground. Then he got the valuable paintings to use in pulling himself out of the ditch.
It seems neither Demir or Candan have much money. I remember Candan saying something about using some of the money from the sale of the house to Mu-RAT to set up her new practice. But...am I imagining this or did she ask Mu-RAT about needing some more of it. And why would her money, if my memory is correct, be in Mu-RAT's hands, even if he bought the house?
Is this supposed to be normal Turkish father behavior that said father orders an adult daughter to come home right now? I know it's related to the police captain's not wanting her to be with Ugur, but still.
Well, my intuition tells me that anything that's put in a hiding place (Oyku's diary) will be found at the worst possible moment.
Novelera, "my intuition tells me that anything that's put in a hiding place (Oyku's diary) will be found at the worst possible moment" I'm sure you're right!
I was checking the schedule for next week and saw that on Friday, "Falsa Identidad" is scheduled for 2 hours, starting at 9PM(E). So no "Hija" on Friday :-(
Thanks, Rgv Chick, for the schedule info. I had seen this a day or so ago when I checked Zap2It, but Telemundo wasn't yet providing information past 7 pm for that Friday. I decided to wait until they did before I prepared the second of the two Telemundo y Más pages for next week. Thanks to your message, I just checked again, and Telemundo has now confirmed this, so I will go ahead and prepare the "Thursday" page.
