LFDD #92/93

- Saul has found a hideout and is visited by El Gordo
- Antolin finds and questions El Gordo about Saul
- Ivan and Lucia have a date night at the McGuire compound
- Lucrecia faints after discovering blood in her urine. Lucia takes her to get tests done.
- Lucia is able to identify Saul as her rapist.
- Ivan goes looking for Saul but Esther denies knowing where he is.
- Camilo ends the affair/relationship with Maripaz.
- Camilo asks Antolin to keep an eye on JJ if he does anything suspicious.
- The lawyer tells Ivan and Tony that it’s unlikely Saul will be charged with rape.
- The doctor tells Lucrecia that she has kidney failure and will need dialysis and a transplant
- David goes to Saul’s hideout before Esther gets there. Saul manages to steal Esther’s purse and escapes again.
- Lucia decides not to press charges against Saul
- Saul and El Gordo plan to kidnap Alex to gain money
- Lucia and Ivan enjoy some romantic, alone time ;)
 

QT #33, Part 1

Still the feria, all night long...!

- Val & Aaron sing karaoke, Juan menaces Remi, and Eva drinks waaaaay too much.

- Magdalena: "Don't I know you from somewhere?" Val: "How would I know? I don't know who I know."

- Bere "confesses" to the padre that she's only using Chacho to make him jealous. Surely at some point he's going to lose control and punch her.

- Meanwhile, back at the hacienda: someone's sneaking around, knocking over trash cans and vases and throwing spooky shadows. Probably the bread-stealer...but also the book-leaver, and maybe the rose-sender? In any case, it's not Lorenzo, because we say him at the party.

- Meanwhile, out in the barn: Tirso tries to humiliate Sabina, telling her she has to do whatever he wants or he'll spill the frijoles that she killed Amara. She turns the tables on him, revealing that a) she only took up with him to get pregnant, b) Angelita is his, and c) if he wants to keep seeing his daughter, he'll just say no to the DNA test.

- Meanwhile, back in the cantina: Esme takes a message for Mags in front of Leo and writes down "Sonia Rodriguez." When Mags gets back, she tells her that her mother called(?). Leo tries to follow up with a few questions, but Mags says she has a headache.
 

QT #33, Part 2

- Basurto catches Mags crying and looks like he might have a bit of a soft spot for her.

- Dalia dreams/remembers/hallucinates dancing with Don Patricio. She muses that she's the only one who really knew him.

- Artemio makes an appointment with Leo to come by the mayor's office and talk about something.

- Esme rags on Aaron about Minnie, but he says the two of them have a common enemy: Sabina. If he can work with Minnie to prove Ange isn't Patricio's, that will leave her mom with nothing...and he and Esme can guard Angelita's inheritance and make sure Sab doesn't get any.

- Leo flashes back to his mean dad telling him acting isn't a real job and he likes Mateo better because he can ride a horsey.

- Oh noes! Val's diary has disappeared! And she hid it so cleverly under the bed, where no one would think to look!

Don Patricio comes off as everything Paquita la del Barrio sings about. No wonder Leonel wanted out.

Too bad Tirso didn't have a phone to record that confession on. I hate the idea that little Ange could end up with nothing. Or will there ultimately be a letter from Don Patricio showing that he knew she wasn't his and he wanted her to have an inheritance anyway? That would explain the money he put in Esme's keeping.

I hope Remi gets his courage back because Val is trapped without him.

LFDD #94/95 *I relied on YouTube for these two episodes*

- Ivan drops Lucia off after their romantic night together.
- Lucia tells Carlota that Berenice will come and speak with Lucrezia to convince her to do the treatment for her illness.
- El Gordo begins keeping tabs on Ivan and Alex
- Berenice tells Lucrezia that either she does the treatment or she dies. There are no other options. Lucrezia decides to do the treatment.
- Ivan and Carolina discuss Alex visiting her twice a week
- JJ visits Alicia’s grave. He tries to convince Ivan to take charge of his ranch but Ivan refuses
- Maripaz asks Carlota if she can return to the house. Carlota says no.
- Camilo tells Ivan and Tony about JJ visiting Alicia’s grave. Ivan still refuses to forgive JJ.
- Alex is still afraid of Maripaz and doesn’t want to spend time with her.

- Lucrezia starts the treatment.
- Maripaz buys gifts for Alex but he still fears her. Lucia and Carlota tells Maripaz about her mom’s illness.
- Carmen doesn’t believe that Saul raped Lucia.
- JJ visits Lucrezia after finding out about her illness
- Maripaz unsuccessfully attempts to visit with Alex again but is allowed to return home
- Ivan is still slightly jealous of Camilo
- Carmen leaves her house with Lichita to live with JJ. Antolin, Camilo and Ivan wonder where she could be.
- Carolina tells Antolin that she is pregnant.

 

QT #34 Part 1 of 3

Val could not find her diary, despite looking exactly where she had left it.

Art was happy about the feria but Luisa protested that the people all thought she had broken up his marriage. She could not take it anymore. He said he could not marry her because Eva would not sign the property agreement. [If you ask me, Eva's doing her a favor.]. Luisa told Art he didn't get it.

The police were at the hacienda about the recent intrusions. One said it wasn't their job; Basurto was more polite. Minerva came in and asked whether they had caught the thief. They left. Dalia sarcastically told her she was hoping nobody had stolen all the booze in the house. Minnie took her shot glass to the couch. Angelita came in looking for Sabina because she was afraid. Minnie told her that ghosts didn't exist. Ange asked her if she didn't like her mother. Minnie said “I don't like your mother and I don't like you, either.” She explained that Don Patricio left her for Sab. Ange asked her about Sab and Tirso. Minnie told her to ask her mother and then shooed her away.

Sandy and Matt got back and she asked why he went nuts at the sight of Valeria and whether she was prettier than herself. He said No, but she (Val) was very pretty. Sandy was ot buying it. Dalia entered and the conversation became about the intruder. Matt told her to call him when things like this happen. She described what had happened in the bodega and told them that Basurto and Servando said they would keep an eye on this. Matt told her he would stick around and Sandy showed off the engagement ring. Dalia looked happier than Matt.... and also noticed this.

Servando handed Val's diary to Leo, who paid him. He had told Leo about the intruder; Leo didn't believe in ghosts, either. He put the diary in his desk drawer and took out the red chocolate box.

Sandy stood in the bathroom by the door and eavesdropped on Matt and Dalia. He was telling his mother that he had promised the Virgencita he would marry Sandy. Dalia asked him if he really wanted to marry Sandy or if he was going to because he had made that promise.

Val was tearing her room apart looking for the diary. Leo came in with the box and asked if she had lost anything. He said it was something she may have misplaced,but nothing important. He pulled the You-Don't-Trust-Me act and gave her the chocolates, saying they had been her favorites before. “Every day I know you less” he said, before leaving to take a shower.

Dalia reminded Matt about the seriousness of such a promise but he said he couldn't talk about it. She left to get work done. Sandy was peeved.

Padre G prayed in the empty church – even from a prone position on the floor – to not go back to being the man he used to be.

In the morning, Sab entered Ange's room and talked about doing whatever she could to insure her happiness and was fighting for it now. Ange woke up and asked her where she had been and whether she and Tirso had been lovers. Sab lied, saying she had taken a walk around the hacienda. She gave Ange the usual spiel and finally said “talk to me because I'm your mum and I will always protect you.”

Berenice cried while thinking of the latest friendzoning by Padre G. Eva brought her some tea and held her as she cried.
 

QT #34 Part 2 of 3

Art brought Luisa some tea but she was still feeling sorry for herself. He said she should go back to school but not to fight with Berenice and she still had to stay away from Padre G. He then went on about the press being his friend, etc. This de-evolved into conflict as he kept backgrounding her. She finally said she wanted a child. His non-verbal reaction said he was not in favor of this.

Matt had fallen asleep in front of the TV set. He woke up and turned it off. He went into his room and Sandy was sleeping in his bed. He undressed and got into bed. She “woke” and came on to him.

Leo entered Val's room [Note that she picked up the pillow and held it in front of her private parts] and talked about how hurt he was by her lack of trust. He also talked about their having been in love, etc., and asked if she could trust him. Then he began touching her. “Just one kiss.” He tried and she pushed him away, saying she wasn't ready. He started yelling out his frustrations again.

Meanwhile Sandy got on top of Matt who finally stopped her, got up sufficiently for us to see that he was still wearing his black briefs, then turned away from her.

Leo left Val's room in a foul mood.

Matt told Sandy he was uncomfortable doing this in his mother's house; he couldn't concentrate. She said something like “We're practically married and now you don't want to make love with me. I'm not stupid.” She lay back down, facing away from him.

Minnie and Aaron had breakfast together. Sab came in to tell her not to mess with Ange. Minnie referred to Ange as a “bastardita.” Tirso came in and Minnie said she and Aaron had to leave to attend to something important. Aaron asked Tirso when he was coming in for the DNA test. Tirso said “ASAP,” Sab was shocked, and Minnie gloated silently.

Padre G talked to Facundo in Luisa's café while he was kneading bread dough, telling him he should go back to school. He then said he would talk to Art about allowing him to leave work early enough. Luisa came in, followed by Juan. The latter brought u the town gossip about Padre G and Berenice, and about Remi. Padre G fired back about the anonymous letters.
 

QT #34 Part 3 of 3

Remi went to Basurto's office about his losses in the crash. Basurto gave him forms to fill out to replace his ID, passport, etc. He started doing so when Magdalena came in with an envelope. She handed it to Basurto, who began flirting with her. She asked him to hand it to his sister for her mother. He said he would and left it on his desk. She left as Remi finished the paperwork. He handed it to Basurto and saw the name on the envelope: Sonia Rodriguez. He thanked Basurto and walked out.

Art started kissing up to Leo to get him involved in local politics (?)

Val was getting acquainted with the beautiful white horse, telling Dalia that they are so uncomplicated compared to people. Dalia agreed. Val told her about the missing diary, confirming that it was the only thing missing, She went on to tell her about finding it at the crash site and it was the only thing that could help her recover her memory. Leo was no help, so she asked Dalia if she would help.

Matt and Sandy went into the church. She confronted him about what she had heard. He realized she had been eavesdropping and demanded that he tell her – before God – what miracle he asked the Virgencita for that made it a sacrifice to marry her.

Dalia told Val she would help and asked her about family and whether she trusted Leo. She said Leo didn't think so, adding it was horrible to know so little. She only had Leo and Sandy. Sadly, Dalia said Sandy was the best friend she could have and that she loved her. Val looked sad and said she missed the love of a mother. Dalia hugged her and she almost cried.

Matt told Sandy not to shout in church and told her that the only promises he'd make to the Virgencita were important ones. She asked if he wanted to marry him and he said Yes. She kissed him and left. He had lied, and probably realized it.

By her comment, Minnie was determined to prove that Ange was not Patricio's child. Aaron said he was in charge of that. Sab wanted to talk to Tirso alone, but Minnie objected out of concern that she would sabotage the situation. Aaron got Minnie to leave the room with him. Tirso let Sab know he would not deny paternity if the test was positive; it was his right. Sab tried to convince hhim this would ruin Ange's life. She was willing to let him use her body to avoid this. He said he was also after her soul.

Art's last words to Leo in this episode included the words dos muertos indicating that this was either blackmail or a promise to keep this ugly secret if Leo does what he wants. They shook hands.

I don't really get why it's such a big deal whether or not Tirso cooperates with the DNA test. If Ange is not Patricio's, Sab loses the inheritance regardless.

Since we know that Sab was previously involved with Leo, is there any possibility that Ange is his child? Was there anything about how long ago he was boinking her on a regular basis? I suspect he took precautions, not that this is commonplace in telenovelas.

Sab has to be either calculating or deranged to go from an age-appropriate son to his father.

Tirso always wanted to be a father. Was his wife unable to become pregnant? He started being paternal toward Ange from the outset and since this is a tale about inheritances I started wondering about the llamada de la sangre in this example. Not to mention that Patricio (with all the macho nonsense he was into) was either in severe denial about his own sterility or happy at the prospect of having another young child to make himself feel younger and stronger.

Sab loses out either way; this is true. The DNA test could prove she is the gold-digger that we all know she is. I'm sure the whole town suspects it already.

Minnie is another piece of work.

UA, are we sure Patricio even knew he was sterile? Aaron has a history of withholding information.

Ange's father could be Leo, I suppose, but that would mean Sab was sleeping with him AND his Dad AND Tirso. She told Tirso that Leo was the only man she ever loved, and that she only left him for the money. Then she said she only took up with Tirso to get pregnant, so I assume she actually tried with Pat for a while before supplementing her supply.

We don't know, but it would have not been ethical for Aaron not to have told him. We don't have a reason so far not to trust him.

What I see is Aaron told him, but Don Patricio may have gone into denial because this represented a loss of manhood to him. FF to just before the opening episode: After parenting a little girl for the preceding 8-9 years, he could finally have realized what manhood and parenthood really means and maybe even how he failed Leo, his one legally-recognized son. He had given a huge pile of cash to Esme for safekeeping for Ange, which has two possible meanings (not mutually exclusive):

-- He knew that Ange wasn't his
-- He realized that Sab was/is a gold-digger who could not be trusted with Ange's inheritance.

That makes a lot of sense, UA. And yes, both could be true.

I like Aaron, but...wasn't it kind of unethical for him to tell Esme her child died? Or maybe the child really did die; who knows? I haven't seen too many unexpected plot twists so far, but I'm always hoping.

Did Aaron deliver Esme's baby? This didn't happen in 1950, so she should have been able to see and hold the baby. Has it never occurred to anyone to check hospital records?

We will probably be in the dark about this for a while longer. We are currently 43 episodes behind and as far as I can tell this series is still in production.

I don't think Padre Gabriel has been there that long, but he could still be a keeper of confessional secrets. In fact, someone who was there at the time could easily have confessed it to him rather than a predecessor who would have known Esme for a long time.
 

LFDD #96/97 *relying on YouTube again*

- Antolin is ecstatic about the news that he and Carolina will be parents
- Ivan apologizes to Lucia for being jealous of Camilo. Maripaz asks him if she can spend time with Alex the next day.
- Ivan tells Lucia that Carmen and Lichita are missing. Antolin thinks they went with Saul.
- Antolin tells Arcelia, Camilo and Ivan about Carolina’s pregnancy
- Maripaz expresses to Lucrezia that she feels nobody cares about her and doesn’t want to lose Lucrezia
- Judith discovers that JJ has Carmen and Lichita living with him. She tells David who tells his mom then goes to tell Camilo.
- Arcelia and Camilo go pick up Carmen and Lichita
- Lucia talks to Alex about Maripaz. Maripaz asks Alex why he doesn’t love her/care about her. Tony cuts Maripaz’ visit with Alex short.
- El Gordo is staking out and asks someone to help with the kidnapping plot. He talks to Carmen.
- Lucrezia’s condition gets worse and the doctor says she needs a transplant. Lucia and Maripaz are tested for compatibility.
- Camilo tells Ivan where they found Carmen and Lichita. Camilo offers himself and Antolin to get tested to help out Lucrecia.
- The results are in and Maripaz is compatible to donate her kidney. Lucrezia is afraid to put Maripaz through that.

- Maripaz wants Ivan to explain to Alex what she’s doing for her mom.
- Tony advises Ivan to tell Alex about the operation but not that Maripaz is sacrificing something.
- Maripaz gloats to Lucia that she is doing something good for their mom while Lucia can’t
- Ivan explains to Alex about the operation his mom and grandma will go through. Alex admits that he thinks it’s brave what his mom is doing.
- Carlota tells JJ about Lucrezia’s upcoming operation.
- Ivan wants to start planning his and Lucia’s wedding after the operation.
- Lucia tells Maripaz that she hopes they can put their differences aside one day.
- Alex brings Maripaz a single flower and wishes her good luck and calls her “mamá”
- David advises Camilo to put distance between himself and Lucia.
- During the surgery the doctor is worried because one of them is hemorrhaging.
- The doctor comes to the waiting room and says that although the transplant was successful, Maripaz died.
- Everyone is shocked and devastated.
- The doctor explains that Lucrezia will be in ICU to recover.
- JJ tells Carlota and Lucia that he will stay while they should go home and rest. Lucia and Carlota go see Maripaz’ body before they leave.
- Ivan offers to take care of the funeral arrangements. Lucia decides Maripaz should be buried next to Gerardo.
- Tony comforts Carlota while Ivan returns home to tell Alex the news.
- Ivan explains to Alex about the death of Maripaz. Alex is able to forgive her and let her go.
- Lucia and Carlota return to the hospital once Lucrezia is out of ICU. The doctor breaks the news to Lucrezia about Maripaz.
- Maripaz’s funeral is held. Everyone is there but Lucrezia is still in the hospital.
- Saul tells El Gordo they’re ready to carry out their kidnapping plan.

The explanation given was that Esme's baby was delivered by Caesarian, and by the time she had regained consciousness they had taken the (stillborn) baby away. There was also a flashback to Patricio saying to Aaron, "I cannot have a child right now!"

This really points to a conspiracy of silence, perhaps with a serious bribe somewhere.

How long ago were Patricio and Minerva divorced? We know she couldn't be bothered with the responsibilities of motherhood and she's now likely to want to sponge off her abandoned son. What is the age difference between Leo ad Matt? Could it be that Matt came to the ranch after the divorce?

So many questions....

Well, we're SUPPOSED to believe that Leo and Mat played together as children, even though IRL those two are 15 years apart. So let's just put on our beanies and smile vacantly.

Nothing new about that casting issue. In Abrazame Muy Fuerte that was the case with the two illegitimate sons of the villain who IRL were 8 years apart. Neither was really young enough to be the son of the actor playing their father.

I somehow can't imagine Minnie not realizing something was up with a new 4-year-old on the ranch who was being passed off as the housekeeper's son. She is foolish and financially feckless but not stupid. She sees that Sabina is a gold-digger, Sandy is a bitch, and that Valeria is a nice girl although.... how is she going to react when it comes to light that Val is the lost daughter of Magdalena?
