According to my TV Guide Tenias Qué Ser Tú will be replacing La Fuerza Del Destino starting tomorrow. Today is the final part of LFDD. I posted the first two parts of the finale in the previous DAYTIME TNs page. I’ll post highlights other final highlights of LFDD later today
Actually, Padre Gabriel is one of my favorites in this series. I believe he suffers from massive frustration on several fronts.
Although we don't know his backstory I am guessing he had a religious fanatic for a mother (think Ana Joaquina of El Privilegio de Amar). He rebelled when young, accidentally killed someone in the boxing ring, and has tortured himself with guilt ever since. He is fighting his true nature as a normal heterosexual man who should work in public service because he seriously cares about people. He sees the same sense of public service in Berenice and is fighting the romantic/sexual temptation she presents to him.
He channels his frustrations into his conflicts with Artemio, who gets more slimy every time we see him.
(Part I)
1.) Episode 85 picks up right where we left off in the Buji restaurant somewhere in the Suburbs of Mexico City & Fernanda listening to the audio recording of Liliana confirming that Psycho Barbara whacked Buji Montserrat.
2.) Eduardo/Franco's body language shows empathy & sympathy during the whole time.
3.) In the meantime, we head to Jacinto & Mags' place where they get ready for some evening celebration.
4.) Florencia ruins the moment by once again crying about getting fired by Jackass #1 Annibal at Grupo Lactos. Memo to Florencia: GET OVER IT!
5.) We see Fernanda still listening to the audio recording (assuming Eduardo/Franco managed to threaten Dr. Orbregon in giving him the recordings).
6.) Flashback from 20+ years ago we see young Liliana crying inside her room at the mental institution clinic as Dr. Orbregon records her accounts on stating her innocence, etc.,
7.) Nancy Patino did a helluva job portraying young Liliana.
8.) Close-up of Fernanda & her body language is seething with anger, rage & sadness.
9.) Knowing that Fernanda would become unhinged, Eduardo/Franco tries to calm the Redhead down.
10.) Back at the Elizalde Mansion: we see Psycho Barbara talking to Artemio Bravo on the phone, discussing more EVIL & sinister schemes.
11.) Psycho Barbara smirking like the devil at the mirror. Not even Hell wants her, so go figure.
12.) In the meantime back at the Buji restaurant somewhere in the Suburbs of Mexico City, Eduardo/Franco sternly talks Fernanda into NOT making a scene in front of everyone considering the audio recording she had just listened to pissed her off & rightfully so.
Deep down in my personal opinion, Buji Montserrat deserved to get whacked & had it coming 20+ years ago.

FIN
- Val sleeps all the way to Mexico, probably because it's the only place Leo can't try to kiss her.
- Remi delivers some books to the school for the Padre, and Berenice dissolves in tears.
- Art and Luisa argue -- he says she promised to be loyal; she says he promised to freaking marry her already -- and he almost hits her.
- Camelia has the hots for Juan, who's winning at cards, but he says he can't buy her a drink because he needs to give the money to his Mom. She pouts. I thought girls liked it when guys were nice to their Moms.
- Leo sends Servando to quiz Basurto about Magda. Basurto resists. Can we take him seriously as a suitor when he doesn't even have a first name?
- Sabina launches her whole self at Leo again, and this time some of her sticks. But they are interrupted by Sandy, who's chomping at the bit to chase the fugitives to Mexico.
- The shrink tells Val she has a perfectly healthy bouncing baby brain, and Mat's standing by for the slopover hugs.
- Vicente the newspaper guy gives Art a thumb drive that he promised will get the Padre off his back. Backstory, at last? Can we hope?
- Chacho sends Bere flowers, sending Eva into a cascade of nosiness, provoking Bere to tell her SHE needs a novio.
- Leo calls Val and pressures here to come home, which annoys her so much she decides she'd rather ride a double-decker bus with Mateo.
- Leo's jeep breaks down and throws up all over him and Sandy, so they seek refuge at a nearby auto-mechanic-and-free-shower emporium.
- Meanwhile, everyone's telling someone they're going to tell them something without actually telling them: Luisa tells the Padre she wants to denounce someone; Esme tells Dalia and Minnie that they'd better tell her about her baby; Mags promises to tell Remi all about Sonia; and Mat tells Val her wants to kiss her really bad.
- Sandy emerges from the conveniently located shower facilities in nothing but a towel, finally catching Leo's attention. He says where you been hiding that, and she says I thought you said I wasn't model material, and he says well maybe I was wrong, and she says so you'll help my career then, and he says would you leave Mateo to go to the city, and she says Mat's the best thing going in that little pond but if I had a wider pool of choices I might change my mind, and he says okay then, and she drops her towel and OMG IT'S LIKE SNAKES MATING.
That last line is hilarious.
I think it's about time that Basurto had a first name. Maybe Magdalena can make an honest man of him. He's not bad looking and he looks genuinely interested in her.
That scene of the two snakes mating opens the door to the possibiity that Sandy thinks she can do better than Matt, who is one of the best catches in that town. She doesn't have the tiniest clue that he could be the principal heir to Don Patricio but that will open an interesting Pandora's box when that revelation happens.
Which can blow up both in her face and Sabina's because if neither is on the Pill or Norplant and Leo didn't use protection.... Oh, Leo, I think you will be so screwed.
I do not want to see anything bad happen to the Padre. There can't be anything on that flash drive that could be worse than what Artemio's been up to. But he's an effective Spin Doctor so we can expect him to try to destroy Padre G.
As for Camila there is a major difference between a guy who treats his mother well and a classic Mamma's Boy. We don't know which is the case with Juanito, but maybe she does.
13.) Nagging Gardenia barges into Jacinto & Mags' house & once again NAGS, NAGS, NAGS, NAGS, NAGS, NAGS...
14.) In the meantime over at Casa Santorro: we see Venus & Martina having a good time. Gum-Chewing Girl (Venus) needs to act ladylike & seriously soon.
15.) Martina looks HOT in that yellow dress (colors of the 1986 People Power Revolution).
16.) We go back to the annoying gum smacking of Venus OMG. Steve Norton, Jr., I hope you can handle this crazy girl....
17.) Over at Natasha's condominium, we see Jackass #2 Camilo fantasizing about destroying Gullible Aurora.
18.) Jackass #2 Camilo in typical fashion insults & dumps Natasha, who sits there & cries after he storms out.
19.) Annoying commercials on Univision LOL.
20.) Going back to J&M's, Nagging Gardenia pulling a Duterte with her hostility towards the Gringo, in reference to Steve, Jr.,
21.) Over at the mental institution clinic: we see Dr. Orbregron receiving a full briefcase of $$$ from Eduardo/Franco.
22.) Adolfina fixes Liliana's hair at Liliana's room.
23.) Eduardo/Franco shows up at Liliana's room & tells her that he's getting her out of the mental institution clinic.
24.) Liliana enters the late Ciro Palafox's room, where she is greeted by Ciro's ghost as he's writing mathematic or scientific problems on the chalkboard.
25.) Emotional moments between Ciro & Liliana: AWWWWWW...
26.) Eduardo/Franco & Liliana get ready to leave the mental institution clinic when Dr. Orbregron shows up & ruins the moment......
27.) In the meantime going back to the Elizalde Mansion, we see Fernanda giving Psycho Barbara the stink-eye with Fernanda's inner thoughts doing the talking.
28.) Daddy Elizalde informing the Elizalde kids & Co., on something important. I'm guessing it's got something to do with changing his last will & testament, etc.,
29.) Aurora excuses herself & goes to her room.
30.) We later see Aurora eating her dinner inside her room.
31.) In the meantime, Jackass #2 Camilo snickers that Fernanda is in love with Franco Santorro.
32.) While that's going on, Fernanda's phone rings, rings, rings....
33.) Jackass #1 Annibal gets all uppity & tells Fernanda to answer the damn phone.
34.) Fernanda gets up from the table to excuse herself while Psycho Barbara is wondering who is Fernanda talking to on the phone.
35.) We see Fernanda speaking to Franco in one of the private rooms of the Elizalde Mansion.
36.) Jackass #2 Camilo & Santiago launch insults toward each other at the dinner table.
37.) Once Fernanda gets back to the table, we see more of the same ole, same ole insults. Jackass #1 Annibal refuses to touch Priscila's hand at the dinner table: he'll get his Karma sooner or later.
38.) Meanwhile, we see Eduardo/Franco & Liliana going to the undisclosed resorts where she'll be protected.
Dalia is still alive and well. She should make it to the end.
Of course, the ultimate irony would be if Leo turned out not to be the son of Don Patricio. We can't rule that one out.
Steve, your comment was deleted due to the harsh language used. I urge you to lighten up on the name calling.
Juanito is gay. You heard it here first. No, no spoilers, it's just an assumption. I predict that Juanito will be Remi's galán. Perhaps I have telenovela gaydar, lol. (I correctly guessed Clara on Imperio de Mentiras, after all.) I love Remi, BTW. The sweetest guy in this show.
But I also love the Padre, and I agree with you Urban, I think his shadowy past involves boxing and an injury or death. I'm not Catholic, but I don't want to see him compromise his vows and I want him to be happy. I hope he will be, by the end. If he does end up leaving the priesthood (a first for Televisa, I would presume?) then I want him to be happy. Whatever is the best for him.
Blue Lass, you're a genius! "OMG IT'S LIKE SNAKES MATING." You are a genius! Thank you so much for your recap. Brilliant and succinct. I wish I had the gift of succinctness, lol. Thank you so much for your work!
OMG 2B&W, that thought never even crossed my mind but I love it! Fingers crossed for the happy ending...I couldn't believe that Imperio didn't even give us Clara dancing with someone at the wedding. What would that have cost them? Weddings are always chock-full of people no one has ever seen before anyway.
I don't see why the Padre doesn't use his backstory, whatever it is, to advertise the redemptive powers of repentance and sacrifice -- was blind but now I see, etc. But I guess he's still stuck in the shame phase.
That last scene was just so slimy I didn't even want to write about it. BUT I DID MY DUTY.
I suspected that perhaps Juanito was gay (heavily closeted) a while ago, and today's episode (that I'm in the middle of watching now) makes me suspect it more. We shall see!
Yeah, I fully expected to see Clara find someone by the last episode (it wouldn't have been hard) but oh well, I guess not!
I agree, whatever is in the Padre's past, I doubt it's that bad.
Can't wait!
Oh, and I found out the name of the closing theme -- it's "Una Oportunidad" by Jessi Uribe. It's a really pretty song, but the romanticism is somewhat undercut by the fact that in the YouTube video he literally sings the entire song to the girl's butt.
“The truth is I'm dying to kiss you,” Matt said. But Val backed off, saying that it didn't matter how they felt because they would be hurting others...
… the same two who were boinking like bunnies elsewhere.
Sandy told Leo she still wanted to be a model but – like the true user he was – he told her she couldn't hold a candle to Val. She hauled off to slap him but he caught her hand and said that his only priority was to find Val. Sandy called him trash as she walked out.
Luisa wated to help Padre G but became offended when he told her she needed to do this via different means. She accused him of thinking her stupid as she walked out.
Esme was offended at finding no information about her son at La Noria. Dalia said she would help her but begged her not to sully Don Patricio's reputation [Does he have one left? I don't see a good one here]. Minnie insulted Esme, who slapped her. Minnie ordered her to leave, but Dalia didn't let her get away with this and told her to withdraw. Minnie and her shot glass left the room.
Sabina asked Aaron about the paternity situation. Aaron told her the same lie: that Esme's baby had died. Further, that in view of her own situation she was in danger of eviction when the DNA results about Angie come back. She was also likely to lose custody of her because she would be outed as a golfa.
Magdalena told Remi that her daughter was three when she last saw her. Several sentences later Remi realized he had found Val's birth mother, noting the resemblance between them.
Val and Matt rode on the top of a city bus, almost acting like teens on a first date.
Berenice typed a journal entry saying that all she wanted was a nice little house, a husband, two children, and a dog, but she was resigning herself to not being able to win Padre G's love. Chacho would be the consolation prize but she was sure that her heart would always belong to another. Eva entered without knocking, which irritated Berenice. Eva was looking for Sandy, who was not answering her cell phone. Neither could she reach Matt or Dalia. Berenice pulled a Greta Garbo, so Eva left the room.
Magdalena demanded to know who her daughter was and Remi told her theat they had to do this carefully. Magda became afraid she would be rejected for having abandoned her. Remi recognized that Magda knew nothing of what had happened when she left her with her sister and told her her daughter had been through ome very difficult things. She prayed again to the Virgencita and they agreed to work together at this.
After Matt bought some candy from a woman on the street he and Val decided it was time to go back to the ranch.
Leo and Sandy were still stuck because the guy could not fix the jeep. They started arguing and he ordered her out of the car. He took out his cell and called Servando.
Matt and Val were on their way, both knowing that Leo would not be happy about this. She then quoted something she had written in the diary saying it would be better to leave and not see Matt. She could not remember why she had written that and asked if anything had happened between them. He lied and said “No.” He didn't see this, but she looked disappointed. He then turned on the radio and concentrated on driving.
Angelita's plush rabbit was now among the missing things.
Artemio was drinking when Luisa got home. He started apologizing to her and she reminded him of all his broken promises. Finally she said she would no longer take his abuse.
Juan and Facundo got into a fight in the square. Remi and Padre G broke up the fight, warning them about gossip, possibly in front of the leaders of it.
Val silently prayed to the Virgencita for help in ending her feelings for Matt so as not to hurt Leo.
Sandy and Leo got back, still fighting. She blamed him for fooling around with Sab when he should have driven Val to her appointment, saying he had pushed Val into Matt's arms. He saw what a spiteful brat she was and said he now realized why Matt was looking at Val. Sandy warned him to watch out before she left.
On the last leg of the drive back Val got the evidence that Mat was thinking of her the same way as she did of him.
Esme cried about all the deceptions regarding her baby. She and Dalia made up. Dalia promised they would find him.
Minnie pressed Aaron for the truth and he continued to deny that Esme's son was alive, saying he had been drunk when he had last talked about this. He finally said that the baby had changed everything between Don Patricio and Esme. Don Patricio had wanted a mistress, not a mother with other priorities (which Minnie was at the time). He got her to change the subject.
Ange tried to get out of going to school the next day, but Sab wasn't having it.
Leo left a message for Val on her cell ad a different one for Mateo. He called Sandy and left her a message to call him. When he hung up he saw his father's ghost, who taunted him again, saying that Matt was more manly “because he is my son.” Leo yelled “Why don't you leave?” He then went to the desk, the lighting became normal again, Sab came in asking whom he was talking to. She noticed that he was looking at the framed photo of Don Patricio and asked why. “Because I hate him, just as much as if he were stil alive.” He then staggered out of the den, much to Sab's confusion.
Ange left the house, telling Corina she was going to find all the missing things if her father was really a ghost.
More conversation between Val and Matt that indicates they are endgame. He talked about how jealous Sandy was and definitely appeared to realize that Val is his true soulmate.
Ange was in the shed or stable and heard a noise. Someone then tossed her plush rabbit to her over the hay bales. The rabbit was wearing Val's medallion.
Esme's tears slowed down and she wondered what Don Patricio had been up to all this time. Dalia said he had likely been punishing his family. She had been given authority over this and it also bothered her because of her power over the money. She said they had to hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
Aaron was also upset over this and got irritated at Minnie's obsession at losing any of the dinero. Finally she told him to calm dow and pity the poor young man who will have to find out that his birth mother is a saloon keeper.
Matt made some hot chocolate for Val and himself. She didn't feel like going into the main house. They looked at a photo on her cell phone. Sandy burst in with a jealous rant and an accusation that they had cuckolded her and Leo.
Blue Lass & Urban, thanks for your recaps.
Like snakes mating! Add to the hall of fame quotes list, please.
Leo is doing his dangedest to be as much of a womanizer as his father was. Sandy had no shame in tempting him into a bit of "fun." He has low standards, in my opinion.
I feel for Magda's working conditions. She has to wear the same white bustier with droopy shoulder ruffles every day. Does she have multiples of this item, or does she wash it out by hand at the end of every day?
Interesting idea that Juanito might be gay. Remi needs someone to love.
When the "ghost" tossed the bunny and medallion to Angelita, I wondered if it might be Lorenzo? I don't know who else might obey the child's command so easily.
Lots of sweet glances between Mat and Val during their day in the city. When Sandy shrieked her accusation at Mat & Val on their return, she hadn't a leg to stand on. She had just done the exact same thing with Leo. If only they knew. I was hoping for a lightning bolt to come down and strike her.
Thank you Urban for your detailed and thorough (but still succinct) recap! Thank you to all the recappers for this telenovela.
I thought it was very revealing that Juanito's friend "suggested" (I believe) that there were "rumors" about Juanito (what kind of rumors? We all have a pretty good idea!) and that the friend is nagging Juanito to get together with the pretty waitress who has the hots for him. The friend doesn't understand why Juanito is dragging his feet. This, to me, seems to be pointing in only one direction. They've made Remi such a sympathetic character and shown him to have hopes for romance before (the exchange he had with the doctor who told him he's not inclined that way). I suspect Juanito is the real deal this time.
Yeah I am really curious who the ghost might be. Lorenzo seems most likely, but who knows? We shall see!
Juanito's excuse therefore would be masking him being gay. Interesting possibility. Being gay seem rather difficult in a town like that.
Remi does need someone; he also deserves love. He has hinted at past familial rejection. The issue here would be whether he could adjust to life in a place like this after becoming accustomed to big cities, glamourous environments, etc. Valeria seems likely to adjust with love as the motivation; we shall see.
I don't think the ghost can be Lorenzo since while all the spooky stuff was going on at the hacienda he was in plain view at the feria. But I have no alternative suggestions, either. Maybe Minnie is doing it to try to drive everyone away? She was home that night...
Thanks for the thorough recap, UA -- I work Tuesday nights, so I don't usually get to watch the episode until the weekend. I try to think of it as a flashback.
I doubt that Lorenzo would be able to pull off being the "ghost" unless he is faking his condition.
Minnie has a motive for this, but how long has she been Patricio's ex? The divorce must have happened over ten years ago so does she even have inheritance rights?
The strongest inheritance rights belong to Leo as the only legitimate heir, but he has no problem calling her out on her irresponsible use of money. When the DNA results on Angelita come back she is disqualified, as Sabina doesn't have any money to bribe anyone to falsify them. Unless.... Sabina had lured Leo into boinking her within the appropriate time frame, but I somehow doubt that. Nobody thus far except Leo and Aaron seem to think that Mateo is the missing heir and nobody therefore has even suggested that he be tested. Knowing how things are going in that town and how people will kill for money I think that Aaron keeps denying the truth to protect him.
I am trying to decide whether Leo is actually seeing his father's ghost or whether he is imagining it. No one else has seen it, he has not spoken of this to anyone, and I don't think we will have that answer right away.
I think Leo is losing it. I think the apparitions of his dad are showing his mental health decline. But I could be entirely wrong!
That would be appropriate karma for his attempt at gaslighting Val.
Really, if Televisa wants to do supernatural they should go all the way and buy the story rights to Dark Shadows.
- Val & Mat both walk out on a screeching Sandy. When they enter the hacienda, Leo advances on Mat and...hugs him. He thanks him for taking care of his huggybear and says they all need to be friends now and call each other "tu." It's super-weird. (Any bets on how long before the ghost of Patricio tells him REAL MEN DON'T HUG?)
- Art goes to see Eva again to lobby for a divorce, but no go. He accuses her of flirting with Servando and earns himself a good slap.
- Remi tells the Padre that Little Juan sets off his gaydar, but I think he read it on Caray. They both agree that Leo's a baddie.
- Chacho goes hunting up Bere with carry-out, but she's not in her room. He sits down to wait and accidentally starts reading her diary, which she does not take well when she returns. Why is it computerized, anyway? Patricio had a book. Val has a book. Of course those books are both currently being read by lots of other people, so I guess that answers my question.
- Val and Esme want Aaron to open up Baby Julian's grave. He freaks out over this to Minerva, who waves him off by saying "you can buy anything in this town for four pesos." So I guess it's off to the 30-year-old baby skeleton store in the morning.
- Art tells the Padre that we all have our little sins, like maybe punching somebody dead in an underground boxing ring. Looks like he's been reading Caray as well.
- Rolling drama in the cantina: Basurto drops in on Mags, who asks him to return the watch to Artemio. He asks her why Leo would be asking questions about her Mom, and she remembers her conversation with Remi and says maybe it's about her daughter. Art strolls in and accuses Basurto of "riding his bicycle." He makes him return the watch to Mags. Tirso shows up and she blows him off. She complains a lot about being all alone, but she certainly seems to have options.
- Dalia flashes back to Patricio telling her he would have liked more children, but it's too late to undo the past. In the present, she suspects he was embarrassed to have fathered a child with a saloon-keeper and gets in a huff on Esme's behalf.
- Tirso tells Eva he's Angie's father. Let's hope she isn't the busybody Bere says she is.
- Angie asks Sab for money to feed a friend. Later Dal finds Val's medal in Angie's bed and Angie says a friend gave it to her. Val covers for her by saying she lent it to her because she was afraid to go to sleep. Everybody assumes Angie's friend is imaginary, but if he steals breakfast buns and tosses plush toys he's probably real.
Gracias, Blue Lass.
Love the comment about Remi's gaydar. I sometimes think that he, Padre G, and Valeria are the outsiders who have to wake up this town which -- despite having modern technology -- is still out of step with the rest of the world.
Having said that, I love the traditional look of the buildings, the town square, and especially the saloon with the swinging doors. Nice place to visit, but I'd rather live in a big city.
Why would Eva flirt with Servando?
[They] read it on Caray. Brilliant.
I also think that Leo is losing it. He's back in the environment he couldn't be comfortable in and his father's life is all around him. He wants the money this place makes but I think he would completely lose his mind after a while. He's out of his element.
Wow, Blue Lass, you are hilarious and a genius! Thank you so much for another fabulous recap!
"Remi tells the Padre that Little Juan sets off his gaydar, but I think he read it on Caray."
Yes, he did! LOL! I wondered for a while now if Remi was going to have a romance, so I guess it was on my mind and I kept a sharper eye out for telenovela clues. The same actor had a romance on Amores Verdaderos, after all.
