Part 1 (some scenes and storylines are combined or condensed for my sanity). 😊
Rafa and Karen (not so) Cleavage are enjoying a glass of wine at Rafa’s depa. Karen the PR person, asks how Jessica is managing everything thing that has been happening with her (selfish) parents. Rafa says that Jess is handling things better than he and Paulina are.
KC would like to meet Jess. Rafa says that the two of them would get along well as they are similar, both are very structured, organized and like hockey. KC promises lots of VIP tickets to concerts of famous artists and more hockey tickets.
Kiss, Kiss with KC and Rafa as he lifts her on to the countertop (you aren’t at the Global Radio control room Rafa) until Rafa’s phone rings and it is Jess, scared out of her mind that Pete the Perv is outside the house banging on the door. Rafa with KC in tow, head out.
Pete the Pig continues to bang on the door demanding that Jess open up so they can finish what they started. Sam keeps a very level head, telling Jess he won’t get in the house, Nicky comes running down the stairs saying he had called his dad Octavio. Sam tells him to go back up to his room and wait.
As PP is about to hurl a rock through the window, Rafa screeches to a stop and is able to give this perv a well-deserved punch to the face knocking him down. Before Rafa can go ballistic on him, Octavio and Loli arrive.
Loli rushes to the house can’t get her key to work and calls on Sam to open up. The terrified girls are immediately embraced, in true Mom style, Loli assures them that Pete will not harm them as Rafa, Octavio and now the police (we hear sirens) will make sure of that. Loli asks for Nicky, (he is upstairs, safe) and hugs the girls again.
Pete is handcuffed and read his rights, off to the slammer for him. Rafa comes into the house and hugs Jess. Rafa and Loli (hugging Sam) give the “all clear” he is gone nod to each other.
Karen and Octavio (looking quite handsome in a baby blue suit) are now in the house, Karen tells Loli she is sorry for what is happening and tells Rafa she will wait in the car.
Part 2
Loli tells Octavio that Nicky was finally able to go to sleep. Octavio tells Loli that it is over, everything is now okay. Rafa tells Jess it is time to go home. Sam accompanies her to get her things.
Loli and Rafa have a uncomfortable conversation, grateful that its all over but Loli asking if Rafa and Karen are going out? He says “no” we aren’t. Loli tells him it seems like you are, Jess told me you are very happy, but it isn’t any of my business anyway. Rafa justifies and tells her, well you are with Octavio now so…conversation interrupted with the girls coming back into the room. Rafa and Jess head home.
Rafa comes down the stairs of his apartment, Karen is still in the kitchen waiting. She asks how Jess is doing. Rafa says she is resting and that is what she needs. Rafa apologies to Karen for the interruption of their good time (Really Rafa??) and Karen, to her credit, tells him she is the one who needs to apologize.
Had he told them the truth about what happened with Jess and Pete, she never would have needed to use her PR skills to conduct Anger Management classes for him. (I still don’t get this at all). She promises to conclude her PR report about his conduct in a positive manner. Rafa tells her that he didn’t want to say anything to protect Jess.
Karen says that once his “case” is closed, she would like to continue seeing him and Rafa agrees that he would as well.
Gabriel is sitting on the back stairs of Hunky Bar with his sister Christie. She brought him a sandwich and is regaling him with the stories of her latest foster family (she has been with them for 10 days). He counsels her not to mess things up, follow their house rules or else she will end up back at the orphanage. He promises he is working on getting money (so he can support her? Escape?) but refuses her request to go back to work for the drug dealers.
Gabriel sends her “home” they hug, promising to see each other soon. Gabriel goes back up to Hunky Bar and Christie ends up asking a group of homeless people standing around a barrel fire if she can spend the night there with them.
Part 3
The next morning, Jess and Rafa are having a heart to heart. Jess just wants all of this thing with Pete to stay in the past and she is planning on moving forward and forget about everything. She thanks her dad for always being there for her and teases him about how well the dynamic is between he and Karen. She even shares with him that although things with Loli did not work out, Loli does want things to be better for he and Karen.
Paulina is about to arrive from the airport. Rafa tells Jess that he obviously told her everything that had happened. Jess says that this episode has brought her closer to her mom and she would like to spend more time with her. Jess wants to move in with Pau for a while. Rafa, trying not to look crestfallen, tells Jess that she will always have her home with him and he will always be there for her.
Pauline arrives with bags in tow from her “conference.” She hugs Jess and scolds Rafa a bit for not telling her sooner, she would have taken the first plane from San Diego. San Diego? Asks Rafa. Did you see Vicente? He is there too. Pau, lies, says that she didn’t know he was there (Really Pau?) and that they only ever speak about ratings and her show.
Jess goes to get her things. Rafa tells Pau that she looks different, happy. Pau says that the trip did her good and she might be ready to move on to a relationship with someone else. Cara impactada de Rafa.
Loli is “making” waffles for Jess and Nicky because they both were so brave the night before. Especially Nicky who had the sense to call Octavio. Sam is kind and tells Nicky that he saved her and Jess. Nicky claims that the papa was the hero, but Sam and Loli say that Rafa wasn’t far behind. Sam tells Loli that Norita should not be told what happened and they agree. Nicky gives them both a lecture about telling lies and the his mom always said a lie is something that will just rot in your stomach.
Loli says that is totally true, but she and Sam just want to wait for the right time to tell Nora. Norita waltzes in the kitchen looking dressed for a nice brunch out. She doesn’t have time to talk or respond to the “how was your date” questions because her ride has arrived. She leaves the house and Loli, Sam and Nicky all scramble to get a view of who is picking her up from the front window.
Part 4
Octavio is at home drinking a cup of coffee on the phone with Loli. Yes, that kid was drunk or on drugs caught trying to break in the house so he should be in prison for awhile and the girls will be okay. He again tells Loli that they have to talk about Nicky, after doing a few things in the office, he agrees to go to her house later that day to talk.
In comes Apolo, with the news that he has indeed found Nicky’s real dad. (I did not catch his name). Unfortunately, he is six feet under. Although the same age as Octavio, the DNA dad who was a construction worker, suffered an unfortunate accident, fell from a building and was crushed by something (sorry, I did not understand this conversation very well). Apolo spoke with the DNA dad’s mother and brothers confirming the details of the story.
Octavio is clearly upset saying now what do I do? Apolo (the smartest person in this story) tells him to do the right thing, tell Loli the truth or he could find himself in hot water.
Later in the day, as Octavio is getting the bar ready for the Sunday Matinee, Nicky calls and asks if he can come over to play football. Octavio tells him he is busy working and will try to come by later. This conversation is overhead by Apolo who once again warns Octavio that he better come clean with Loli about not being Nicky’s dad. He could be accused of impersonating someone he is not and get in trouble with the law. (This is twice in the same episode that Apolo has predicted a dire consequence for Octavio if he didn’t tell the truth. I hope is not a foreshadowing of anything to come).
Norita and Don Rogelio are having a very nice brunch at in bright fun looking restaurant (gosh, I miss eating out!) the conversation is fun and light for a bit until Don R compares Nora to Loli and she reverts back to her awful self, telling him off. She accuses him of “working” with Loli to take custody of her nietos. Very nicely, Don R tells her to calm her butt down, all he really wants to do is get to know her better. (Why, I don’t know, he must be really lonely). Norita cools her jets and they continue to have a nice Sunday brunch.
Part 5
Later that Sunday, Loli and Nora are watching a movie. Loli tries to get a conversation going with her about the fact she looks so happy and that come only from being in love? Who is the lucky galan? Loli then mentions she has a business trip to San Francisco but not to worry, she wont interrupt any plans for Nora because the babysitter will be here for those days.
Nora is not happy about that and says she doesn’t get consulted about anything. She could take care of the kids. Of course, Loli plows on and blurts out that she is planning on sharing joint custody of Nicky with Octavio. Nora leaves the room without a word and Loli thinks considering the circumstances, Nora handled the news well.
Melissa, on the phone, in her pajamas, is eating potato chips from the bag, grousing to her mom about being pregnant and not wanting to tell Bruno. She agrees to visit later. Bruno comes in and asks if she has noticed if Carol has been acting differently? She says no, Carol continues to be the best loving, level-headed, well spoken, responsible daughter ever. Melissa leaves the room to go buy more chips (I thought she was broke?) and leaves Bruno talking to himself once again. Bruno spends several other, long drawn-out scenes, that I don’t have the stomach to watch or write about, trying to tell Carol he supports her pregnancy without really saying anything about it. (I ask for perdon if I am breaking any recap rules). 😊
Mati and Art come in from dinner. Mati thanks Art for staying at Cesar’s restaurant for awhile before having dinner with Art’s friends. Art snobbishly says, I forgot about Cesar after the great time we had at dinner. They both make fun of the wife who was overly protective of the new baby in the house saying that they would never be like that as parents. They agree to continue the adoption process.
On Monday, they show up at work with a baby carriage and a “realistic” baby controlled by an App, given to them as a trial by the adoption agency. The Global Radio chismosas all gather around and quickly notice the diaper stench coming from the “baby.” Of course, Art runs off to a meeting leaving Mati to “change” the baby. Rox laughs from behind saying those two are not going to last a week working together.
Part 6
In the conference room, Don Rogelio, Rafa, a demurely dressed Karen are on the phone with Vicente receiving Karen’s close out report on Rafa’s successful 2 session therapy for anger management. She deems him “cured” and recommends that he can return to normal duties.
Vicente doesn’t sound convinced, but Don R, says he is and that he trusts Karen’s judgment. Don R reminds the grumpy Chente that they have a big presentation in San Fran the next day. Don R, slaps Rafa on the back and tells him he is back in the game.
Rafa thanks Karen for being discreet about the Jess situation and she beam over him saying they can celebrate when he returns from San Fran. Rafa doesn’t commit to anything.
Loli is in her office on the phone with the babysitter who cannot take care of the kids. In walks Octavio, (again there to tell her he is not Nicky’s DNA donor) saying he can take the kids while she is gone. She says he is a gift from heaven! Don Rogelio comes in and tells Loli that she and Rafa will be presenting at the conference in San Fran and he hope there will not be any problems!
Loli says not at all! All is professional. She introduces Don R to Octavio, in walks Rafa, saying he hopes she is ready with the presentation. Octavio laughs at her reaction to Rafa and her both going to San Fran together. She tries to act cool. (I can only imagine what might happen in San Francisco)! They agree to talk about Nicky after her trip.
Once again, Apolo tells Octavio that he is putting himself in bigger and bigger potential trouble if he doesn’t tell the truth, now he is a babysitter too! Apolo says this lie is like a snowball started at the top of the mountain getting bigger and less manageable the longer it rolls.
Last scene of the episode is Octavio visiting his former gang friend, now turned vet, Poncho, with the DNA results, asking Poncho to falsify the document in his favor.
So does this mean Nicky is in for a terrible accident requiring a blood transfusion that his his sister and grandmother aren't a match for so they have to check with his "father"? Poor kid.
Nice that they dispatched with Pete so quickly, although I doubt a rich kid like him would go to any sort of prison. Hopefully he's gone for good, busy picking up trash on the side of the road. Gus (was that the other boy's name- forgot already) needs to help for his part.
Kelly
Good point Kelly about the potential blood transfusion or organ donation. For some reason, I don’t think Poncho the vet will risk his licensure to this degree. Treating gunshot wounds in the arm for a “dog” is one thing but this is something completely out there.
I have a feeling Pete and Gus will make a come back somehow. There was reference to them being far “away” but rich kids don’t stay in jail long, not sure what is going on there. I would also like to see both of them picking up trash on the side of the road.
VVS, you are on a roll! Loved your recap with fantastic asides. "You aren't in the control room, Rafa." It begins to look like the Rafa/Loli prospects are getting dimmer. I can't remember a novela where the galán was SO enthusiastic about another woman during the separation of the two leads. Telenovela Writers Rule #1: the main couple have a misunderstanding or some other reason to be "off" for several weeks before the big reconciliation and, in old fashioned novelas, a church wedding.
OK, here's something the writers seem to have forgotten about...or, as dondi speculated, COVID precautions caused some of them not to be filmed. [If they could do that, why not edit out the scene where characters mention something that's going to happen. Or...better yet edit out Melissa and Bruno completely.] What I'm remembering is Gus texting Sam that he wanted to meet her at the school (even though he's suspended). I was looking forward to him telling Sam the whole rotten event was orchestrated by Pete.
Poor Gabriel. That Christie is a big problem. I didn't realize that she was hoping her brother would go back to the lucrative drug sales; thought she just mentioned it. She did say that the religious foster parents wanted her to cut her hair, so that's not good. I'm sure there will be more trouble from her in the future.
I got a kick out of the artificial baby story line. I didn't realize they were THAT realistic and that prospective adoptive parents would be given one (doubt that's true). I think they were using them in high schools to alert teenagers to how difficult it is to care for a small human 24/7.
Apolo is starting to annoy me. The scenes of him ragging on Octavio about not telling Loli about the DNA results are getting too repetitive.
¡Muchísimas gracias! VVS, for this wonderful recap. You've captured everything worth capturing, and your asides were terrific as well. I agree that Apolo is the smartest person in the novela. Also, I loved your snark in "(you aren’t at the Global Radio control room Rafa)" and "(Why, I don’t know, he must be really lonely)".
As for your concern about possibly breaking any recap rules, let me assure you that you haven't. For one thing, there are almost no recap rules. Recaps can take many forms and many lengths. And when something is boring, FF>> is the recapper's friend (and the reader's as well). I definitely think you made the right choice re Bruno's talks with Carol.
When Karen says to Rafa that had she known what Jess went through, she'd never have recommended anger management, I think she's implying (rightly, IMHO) that Rafa's very angry response was understandable and appropriate given what happened to Jess.
IIRC, Nicky's bio father (whose name I think may have been Raul Acuña) was crushed to death by a steamroller. Yuck!
I'm glad you included Apolo's line about Octavio's lie being like a snowball at the top of a mountain, that grows bigger and bigger as it rolls down. I really liked that analogy.
Finally, I too am nervous about possible bad consequences for Octavio if he doesn't manage to tell the truth about the DNA results. Then again, I still haven't given up hope that he turns out to be Sam's bio dad.
Thanks so much for the fab recap, VVS! Your asides were fantastic, and I was in total agreement I enjoyed reading it more than watching the actual show. I also enjoyed everyone’s comments.
I don’t blame you or anyone for FFing Bruno & family. IIRC, it was called recapper’s prerogative. Maybe someone remembers better.
I really hope we don’t get the blood transfusion “outing” that Kelly suggested.
I had the same thoughts about rich kid Pete getting away with a slap on the wrist. I wouldn’t mind seeing him picking up trash on the side of the road, either. Maybe he could get hit by a car, too.
After all the fallout from the Rafa/Loli sexcapade, they send the two of them to an out of town conference?
novelera, this TN seems to be a big rule breaker. I can’t remember the last time I saw a big church wedding.
dondi356
Thanks novelera, Juanita and dondi356 for the props. I am still VERY nervous about this recapping thing especially writing for the totally seasoned experts like the three of you!
Juanita, thank you for clarifying how Nicky’s DNA dad died, I totally missed the steamroller part, yikes how awful. I also think that Octavio, somehow is Nicky’s papa.
The Loli/Octavio pairing is one I like better than Loli/Rafa. Novelera, your telenovela writers rules definitely seem to be broken here.
Dondi356, the episode was all over the place and I had a hard time keeping the time of day or night in line with the story, so I am glad you enjoyed the recap. I thought the same thing about Rafa and Loli on a trip together, disaster waiting to happen.
I appreciate all your astute comments and graciousness!
Octavio asks his friend Pancho/Moncho (the captions said Moncho) to falsify the DNA results. "Are you crazy?" asks P/M. Octavio offers to pay him well. P/M says it's not just a question of money. The stamp on the document is impossible to copy. P/M also says he thinks that Octavio is really interested in the woman, the kid is just an excuse.
Lupe, Rox, Mati, and Loli are talking. Lupe offers to burp Mati's "baby." Loli insists that there's nothing between Rafa and her. Rox isn't buying that. She notes that "what happens in San Francisco stays in San Francisco." Suddenly, Mati starts screaming, "The baby isn't breathing! He isn't breathing!!" Rox tells Loli to forget about the baby, what she wants to know is whether Loli is getting it on with Rafa. (It's hard to believe that anyone can get any work done at Global Radio.)
Melissa is on the phone with Lupe. She tells Lupe that no, she hasn't yet told Bruno that she's pregnant. "Having a baby is expensive, and we don't have any money. But eventually Bruno will figure it out." Bruno comes into the kitchen and tells her that he has to go to work, but when he gets back, they have to have a talk. A serious talk. Melissa agrees: "What I need to tell you will change our lives." "Yes, I already know," says Bruno. "You know?" "Yes." He leaves, and Melissa tells Lupe, "He already knows!"
Sam and Jess go to school for the first time since the incident. They feel very awkward and embarrassed. One of Carol's friends says to Carol, "Gus was suspended and Pete is in jail. Sam and Jess set them up for sure." Carol disagrees: "My cousin is too dumb to do that." Jess doesn't want to go in. Sam gets up on a table and addresses the crowd of students. She tells them that Pete took photos without Jess's knowledge. "How would you feel if you were attacked?" she asks. She continues, "Stop pretending that you're better than Jess. You're not! This could have happened to any of you." Her speech is greeted by loud applause. Two-faced Carol comes over to Sam and compliments her on the speech. "I'm 100% in support of you and Jess," she says with forked tongue.
Paulina and Angie are at Hunky Bar. I think Pau says something about checking it out for a possible celebration site. However, she's worried that people might recognize her. Angie assures her that none of the women are interested in her--they've come to see the sexy guys (me too!). The guys put on a show, and then they come down from the stage and go up to some of the women in the audience and get them to dance. One comes over to Pau. She at first seems to shoo him away, but then she gets up to dance with him. Another guy does the same with Angie. Suddenly, Pau catches sight of Bruno, staring at her from behind the bar. Paulina goes over to him and tells him that she's conducting a study of women who are divorced. Bruno informs her that he, too, is conducting a study. But then Apolo comes over to him with a mop and tells him to clean the place up.
Mati is trying to give Cesar instructions on how to look and act in order to impress Rox. Cesar even has a speech he has prepared, and he tries to practice his delivery. "I'm Cesar. I'm the man you've been waiting for all your life." Mati listens, and with some obvious hesitancy, he tells Cesar, "You're ready. Cross your fingers." Not content with crossing his fingers, Cesar makes the sign of the cross.
Nora tells Octavio about some plumbing problems in the house. She asks whether he can fix them. He tells her he has to go to the bar, but he'll send someone to fix them. Nora is annoyed that he'll send an unknown flunky. Octavio makes it clear that if she doesn't want the problems fixed, that's fine with him. She tells him OK, send someone.
Loli and Rafa arrive at the hotel in San Francisco. To Loli's dismay, only one room has been reserved, in Rafa's name. The reservation clerk tells them that the hotel is fully booked, so no other rooms are available. They reluctantly agree to take the room. They go up to the room and open the door. There's a huge bed that seems to take up almost the entire room. Rafa notes that at least it's big.
Gabriel arrives to deal with the plumbing problem. He and Sam seem to be pleasantly surprised to see each other, but Sam quickly cools off, and Gabriel calls her a sangrona, an annoying, nasty person. Nora looks at the young Gabriel and wonders about his competence. He asks whether she wants the problems fixed. She does.
Mati advises Cesar to be himself, that is, the new version of himself, with the sucked-in belly. Rox makes a dramatic entrance in a flashy red dress that blows about thanks to a fan near the entrance. She says "a body builder and a cook." Cesar says, a cook, yes, but not a body builder. She wants to know what Cesar's driver is doing here. "I'm Cesar," Cesar announces. She looks at him and says, "You're nothing but a liar! Don't call me, don't come see me." She storms out.
Bruno returns home and tells Carol they have to talk about a very serious matter. Melissa says that life brings surprises, and this surprise includes diapers. Bruno wants to know when she found out. Mel tells him just a short time ago, but she didn't know how to tell him. Bruno is upset: "We're talking about our daughter! Carol is pregnant!" "What," exclaims Melissa, "Carol is pregnant too?" "What do you mean, too?" asks Bruno.
Rafa and Loli try to figure out what the sleeping arrangements should be. Loli says he can take the bed. He suggests they discuss matters over a drink at the bar. Loli says, "Drink? You? Me? Bed? No!" The bell to their room rings. Perhaps they've found a second room. Loli goes to the door and opens it. Karen in standing there with her suitcase and an astonished look on her face. She turns and starts walking away. Loli and Rafa look at each other, and then Rafa goes after Karen to explain. He catches up to her and starts in about the hotel being all sold out. She tells him there's no need for explanations. She'll leave. He tells her "Loli was the past; with you, we have a future." They agree to talk about this further downstairs at the bar.
Melissa is puzzled that Carol had said nothing about being pregnant. Who is the father? Bruno says he doesn't know, he found out when he came upon the pregnancy test in the garbage. Melissa tells Bruno that the pregnancy test wasn't Carol's, it was hers. At first, Bruno isn't taking this in. "How wonderful. I'm going to be a grandpa." But then he faints. There's a flashback to a much younger Bruno and Melissa talking to Mariana. Both women are pregnant. It turns out that Mariana introduced Bruno to Melissa. Bruno regains consciousness. Melissa tells him that she knew it was dangerous when there was a full moon, but Bruno was in the mood and so was she, and.... Melissa wonders how they will feed another person. Bruno tells her he has no idea, but he's nonetheless delighted. "It's the most beautiful thing that's happened to me since I got out of prison."
Cesar is very unhappy at Rox's rejection. Mati says Rox will come to her senses. Cesar, however, says it's over. "She'll never want to see me again."
Gabriel finishes fixing the plumbing problems. Sam is about the get money from Nora to pay him, but Gabriel tells her Octavio said he'd take care of it. Sam asks about Octavio. Gabriel describes him as super cool and kind. He sees a photo of Mariana. Sam explains that her mother died recently. That's how she's with Loli. She then asks whether Gabriel lives with his parents. He tells her he doesn't even know where his parents are.
Loli gets a text from Octavio letting her know that everything is under control and telling her to enjoy the trip.
Nora is not feeling well. Octavio offers to give her a massage. She quickly refuses. She asks Octavio what his parents think of him and his lifestyle. He tells her it's complicated. She tells him that she and Mariana hadn't talked much. Crying, she says, "The last time I saw her was at her wake. She was a great woman. I miss her every day." Octavio suggests they change the subject. Unless she has some tequila. She does. She brings it out. Salud!
Arturo asks Mati whether he really thinks that they shouldn't adopt a baby. Mati is about to give the fake baby to Arturo. Arturo claims he has work to do. So too does Mati. Things aren't looking promising.
After a little tequila, Nora talks about her dead husband, Mariana's father. A gentleman, kind, they don't make them like that any more. She lowers her voice and tells Octavio not to repeat what she's about to say. She then says that her husband was a gentleman...like Don Rogelio. Octavio asks whether she kissed him. "I'm a decent woman," protests Nora. "You're way off!" She then says it's Octavio's turn. She asks why he doesn't live with his parents. Before he can answer or avoid answering, Nora suddenly yells "Earthquake!" She had tried to get off her chair and probably the room spun. She's quite drunk. She then says, "You and Loli are a good couple." After a moment of silence, she asks, "Did I say that, or just think it?" 'You said it," Octavio confirms. He then offers her coffee and some aspirin.
Loli finds it strange that the hotel didn't have a reservation in her name. "I'm Global Radio's VP and this is a Global Radio event." (Why do I think that Vicente made the room arrangements?)
Mati brings a box of donuts to Rox as a peace offering. Rox tells him she hopes he chokes on them (though she does take them from him). She tells Mati "It's one thing for Cesar to deceive me, but quite another for you to help him."
Mati tells her she should give Cesar another chance. She rejects the idea. He tells her that on her show, she seems cool, nice, and understanding, put in person she's very prejudiced and insecure. "You gave David a second chance because he was cute, but you won't do so for Cesar because he's chubby, not good looking, and owns a cheap Mexican restaurant." Rox tells Mati to leave.
Loli calls Rox, apparently from the ladies room at the hotel. She tells Rox that she's having a terrible time, and that Karen has arrived. Just as she starts to say more, Karen enters the ladies room. "I'll call you later," says Loli, as the episode ends.
Thank you Juanita, for the super-fast, terrific recap. I too was so happy to spend some quality time at Hunky Bar, even if it was with Pau and Angie.
I finally figured out my CC and the vet’s name was Poncho on mine. Poncho/Moncho, at least he was honest with Octavio.
That Rox looked pretty in that red dress, but I am in Mati’s court, she is insecure and judgmental of others, not understand and kind like she portrays on her program. Poor Cesar, I don’t think he has a chance.
(It's hard to believe that anyone can get any work done at Global Radio.) So true Juanita! Between fake babies, cupcake eating, sexcapades and the gossip, how does this company survive?
BTW, I think I heard Lupe give Loli all the travel information, saying she had made sure to send the first-class plane tickets to Loli’s email. I am not sure about the hotel room, but Chente probably had a hand in that since Global Radio was the sponsor of the event.
I enjoyed the tequila confessions of Norita with Octavio. I am still very interested in his back story, sounds like his parents are still alive, but not involved in his life.
Good for Sam, standing up for Jess in front of part of the school! There is definitely a vibe between her and Gabo (that Nicky is so cute).
So Mariana introduced Mel to Bruno, what was she thinking? 😊
Fantastic recap, Juanita. And I am SO in synch with your asides. And ITA with two-faced Carol.
As VVS mentioned I also remember Lupe announcing the travel arrangements. The single room could be Vicente or it could be that Lupe is incompetent. After all, snooping is probably higher on her priorities than getting her work done correctly.
Of course Karen's initial certainty that Rafa and Loli were back on wasn't helped by Loli being in her bathrobe in the same room.
I can't see how the Rafa/Loli pairing can possibly work out. He had no thought other than racing after Karen to reassure her. And, IIRC, he said something in the morning about Karen having found a room. It was kind of funny that he said he needed the room key because he was smelly. Loli agreed.
VVS, I am also quite interested in Octavio's back story. It sounded like his parents are alive and in Argentina. But there was some awful betrayal of him that caused him to end up living on the streets, like Gabriel.
Rox doesn't deserve Cesar, although I'm sure the writers will have them together at the end. I can't tell if it's the actor doing the role or the writers, but she's become FF>>> material.
Good for Mati. Obviously Arturo has Mati in mind for all the child care if and when they adopt. I'm still rooting for Mati/Apolo.
Thanks very much, VVS and novelera, for your excellent comments.
VVS, I can't imagine why my captions seem to say Moncho--perhaps it's time for me to make an appointment with my eye doctor. At any rate, I much prefer Poncho. Yes, the tequila confessions involving Nora and Octavio were delightful, and they went a long way toward humanizing her. And I had exactly the same thought you did ("what was she thinking?") about Mariana's getting Bruno and Melissa together. Perhaps it should have been "why wasn't she thinking?" :-)
novelera, I too am getting less and less happy with Rox, and more and more sure that Mati and Arturo should NOT adopt a baby. I'm not as down on Arturo as you are, but I like the idea of a Mati/Apolo match. And I'm glad you mentioned Rafa's asking Loli for the room key--why do they have only one key? My experience is it's quite usual for two adults sharing a room to have separate keys. And, of course, it's interesting that Karen was somehow able to get a room.
I couldn't watch last night and wasn't able to watch at lunchtime. I thought I would watch when I got home this evening but after reading your recap, there's no need. Your recap was great and I thank you very much.
VVS and novelera, your comments were also great and very helpful.
dondi356
dondi356, I'm sorry you couldn't watch the episode, but I'm most grateful for your kind words about the recap.
Hi dondi356! I think you just need to watch the Hunky Bar dancer part near the beginning of the episode as Juanita covered the most pertinent part of the story line! 😊 You will be happy and all caught up!
Episode #37 – Wednesday
Hi Team Loli! I found myself with a little bit of time this morning so here is the down and dirty from last night’s episode:
Karen and Loli have a “chat” in the bathroom. Loli lets Karen know that she hopes Rafa/Karen work out well because both are “tipazos.”
Octavio calls Loli to tell her Nicky has a stomach ache and will stay home. Loli tells him to give Nicky some remedy found in the kitchen cabinet and to call if things get worse. Octavio gives both Nicky and the hungover Norita some of the bad tasting remedy.
Rox centers her program around friends who betray, speaking directly to Mati. Poor Cesar calls in to try and explain, she pretends to lose the call.
At Global Radio, late at night, Vicente and Paulina are relishing in their aloneness, start lip locking and are unaware that Loli apparently has returned early from San Fran and sees the whole thing.
Chente and Pau try to make excuses and Chente demands to know why she is back so early? Loli says it is because Nicky wasn’t feeling well and she attended everything perinate, just not the cocktail hour. She agrees not to say anything about what she saw. Loli just wants to know if Rafa is aware? No? Well, he is going to be so hurt and betrayed by you, his best friend.
Carol is horrified to learn she is going to have a baby brother or sister. Mel gets a loan from her mom to by a ton of baby clothes, Bruno gets an eviction notice for lack of payment on the house.
Mati comes home to find Art sleeping on top of the fake baby, violating all the rules. Mati says they are not ready to adopt, ever.
Gabriel comes over to Sam’s house pretending to have left some tools the night before. Some cute flirting with Sam. Later he finds his sister, Christe sleeping under the stairs at Hunky Bar. He brings her in for a shower and something to eat. With help from Romeo, she ends up sleeping in the storage room because her foster dad is hitting her.
Episode #37 – Wednesday - Part 2
Loli is at the office with Mati and Rox trying to get the scoop out of her about what happened in San Fran. Loli doesn’t want to give any more details, calls Lupe to her office. Lupe arrives with the fake baby and tosses it to Mati. Apparently, Art asked Lupe to watch the baby while he was in a meeting.
Loli asks Lupe why she didn’t have a room reservation in San Fran? Lupe claims that she made reservations for two rooms and has the confirmation to prove it. It is then we learn that Rox is the one who canceled Loli’s reservation so she would have to stay with Rafa. Loli tells her not to interfere with things like that! Mati tells Rox that she gets upset when people meddle in her life, but it is ok for her to meddle with Loli?
Later Chente slinks into to Loli’s office. Loli tells him not to worry her lips are sealed. He pretends to be interested in the changes she has made to the logo presentation he trashed before. She calls him out and says “so this is how it is going to be?” “You haven’t ever said one nice thing to me and now, to keep me from telling Rafa, you compliment my work?” On cue, in walks Rafa, “keeping what from Rafa?” Quick thinking from Loli she tells Rafa “not to tell you about my presentation.”
Loli is at Octavio’s, they toast to happiness with some fine wine in the middle of the day. He brings out a nice cheese and fruit platter while Loli wanders the apartment and finds the DNA test. She pulls it out and discovers that Octavio is not Nicky’s dad and the DNA dad is dead. She is besides herself and tells Octavio to leave her and Nicky alone. She can’t believe he didn’t tell her sooner! (Well Loli, you never really let him).
Episode ends with Loli telling Nora that she was right all along about Octavio and now how is she (Loli) going to tell Nicky that his dad is gone on a very long trip? Nicky walks in the room and overhears. “My Papa is going away?”
I know the regular recap crew is super busy to do the Wednesday night episode recap, so I hope it was okay that I just threw one together. Besides, I know there are a lot of lurkers out there (like I was!) waiting for a recap and being disappointed when there wasn’t that fun interaction for the day.
I also thought this was a pivotal reveal episode and we needed to discuss it! 😊
VVS, you are a trouper!! Thanks so much for the unexpected Wednesday recap. It was very well done and don't ever apologize for length. In the case of recaps, size doesn't matter!
You also clarified some things that apparently went right over my head. I am starting to zone out when Rox opens her mouth, so I totally missed that she had the cojones to try to force Rafa and Loli into bed together.
And the writers seem to have amnesia. Back in the day it was mentioned that Marcelino gave Bruno and Melissa the house and this was used as somehow justifying Marcelino having Bruno take the rap for his tax misdeeds. So now there's a mortgage and they haven't paid it for some months. If that is the case, why would Bruno be so surprised to get an eviction notice. At least he resisted taking money from the cash register.
Loli was astonished at how Nora had warmed up to Octavio. And, yes, every time he tried to tell her he was not the bio dad she just kept babbling on.
This is great, VVS! Thanks so much for doing this. There were some important happenings.
Bruno’s family was as annoying as ever. Are Mel’s cupcakes going to keep them from getting evicted?
I really don’t care much about the couples, Rafa and Karen and Vicente and Pau.
Not diggin' Rox's double standard.
Not enjoying the fake baby stuff either. But I guess they want us to know that Art is an a-hole.
Gabe and Sam will be cute, but will a relationship be approved by Nora or Loli?
My heart was breaking at the DNA reveal. I felt so bad for Octavio. He was crying! He really loves Nicky and I think he likes and respects Loli. I hope the adults handle this well for Nicky’s sake.
Tonight should be interesting.

Wow, VVS, what a terrific recap! It's hard to believe you just "threw one together." I hope some of the lurkers will consider following your superb example.
I enjoyed the scene where Octavio gave the foul-tasting medicine not just to Nicky but also to the hung-over Norita. I burst out laughing when both Nicky AND Norita held their noses before swallowing.
One sign of what a selfish [expletive delete] Carol is is when she berates her parents for Mel's pregnancy: "You have no money to send me to a good college but you're going to have a baby!" (Moreover, it's hard to believe that Carol could be admitted to a good college even if her parents could afford it.)
Great scene when Lupe tosses the "baby" to Mati. Loli, of course, doesn't realize at first that it's not a real baby.
As for Rox, with each episode she sinks lower and lower in my view.
I loved your describing how Chente "slinks" into Loli's office.
Octavio even has a hard time getting in a word edgewise to let Loli know that he TRIED and TRIED to tell her, but she never shut up long enough. I wonder how his not being Nicky's father is going to play out. Since this is a comedy, and Nicky is extremely cute, I suspect all will be well, eventually. I'm still holding out hope that Octavio is either Nicky's bio dad or Sam's--or both!
One more thing. In the very first episode they showed Loli waking up to a bottle of Pepto Bismol on her night stand. She then smells something burning and goes down to see the microwave first smoking and then exploding. Then they went back two weeks, IIRC, to Mariana still being alive.
And I believe when Loli talked to Octavio about Nicky's tummy ache she mentioned the rosado stuff in the bathroom.
I am so glad we were able to get our discussion going novelera, Juanita and dondi356! You all bring up terrific points!
Novelera, I also thought the house was free and clear for Mel and Bruno. I am glad we found out who the hotel reservation canceler was! I was blaming Lupe and or Chente! The pink stuff! Yes, I remember that from the first episode. So glad Bruno didn’t steal from Octavio and I liked what Apolo shared about all the guys busting their buns to help Octavio get the bar to where it is today.
Oh my goodness dondi356, I was crying with Octavio too. Loli is a bit self-righteous with certain topics, she needs to let Octavio stay in Nicky’s life. I think they should be honest with him, but hey if they end up a couple, then Octavio could really be Nicky’s dad.
I so agree with you Juanita, Carol is horrible! Get off your como se llama and put yourself through school! Get a job! Rox is a big disappointment these days for sure!
Thanks for the great comments! I look forward to the episode tonight!
